We''ve used this for about 2 months now and have been very satisfied. It was very easy to set up and we have had no problems with it. We have it set up with a "distinctive ring" feature so we can have both a voice number and a fax number on the same physical phone line. It has had no problem handling this and it has always been able to tell a fax call from a voice one. We also have an answering machine, PC Modem, cordless phone, and credit card terminal all hooked up to the same physical line as this fax machine and have no conflicts or problems. The footprint is very small which is nice if you''re running out of deskspace.

The print quality is OK. We use to have an inkjet based fax machine and it was better.

When your comparing prices on these machines, be sure to add the cost of a replacement cartridge to the purchase price of this one (...)The cartridge that comes with it is only good for about 20-30 pages. I get that much junk fax in a couple of weeks. If you decide to buy this one, get a spare cartridge also.

We use this in a home office set up and only get a few of faxes a day. If you have high volume fax needs, this may not be the machine for you. It''s slow and I''m not convinced that it would hold up very long under high-volume situations.

What an improvement over our old oily-rolled-paper machine! I hated having cut those things apart and stand on them after they came in to straighten them out! You gotta love modern technology!

I got this durable, handy-dandy, inexpensive unit about a year ago. Overall, I am very happy with it. Easy to set up and operate, it is attractive and fits very well in my small home office. Forgot to re-load paper before going out on errands and someone tried to Fax you a major order? No problem! It has up to 20 pages of memory. My only quibble is that, with lengthy out-going faxes, it must be "baby-sat" as it has only a 10 page outgoing tray. But how often do you have to send off a treatise?

I use this machine for light home office use and its worked well so far. Print quality is good but not great and the speed is OK, but its definitely not fast. Has a small footprint so it doesn''t take up much space. Set up was easy and the owners manual is relatively straightforward.

Buy a spare cartridge immediately though as it only comes with a 30 page one. It works with my answering machine, which I was concerned about although it does play the message on my answering machine before receiving the fax so some folks have hung up and tried again thinking it was the wrong number.

For the money, its about the best you can do HP has more advanced (and expensive models start at around $200) but nothing else on the market that I was able to find had these features at this price (25 page memory, large paper input, phone).

Crisp, clear print-outs. Set up was simple, but my only hesitation is that the film that comes with the machine is only good for about 30 pages. I appreciate Brother being upfront about that in the manual (or other owner''s literature), but I wish that the "starter roll" of film lasted a bit longer.

Easy to set up and use. This fax machine does a good job of sending faxes in excellent quality. My only complaint is that when receiving faxes, the quality of faxes this machine prints out is only fair. The print outs are a little faint in spots.

I selected this copier/printer based on price, features and the Canon name. I felt like I got "Oh such a deal" at the time I bought mine in Sept.08. This is often how the mfg''s will move more units, by selling them at super-low prices knowing they will make their profits on you returning for toner.

With the rebate I couldn''t pass this up, although if I were paying full retail I would have chosen one that also scans to the PC. This one DOES NOT. It is only a printer and copier. I would also consider one that has a Print server and NIC built-in IF I could also connect directly for scanning.

I would recommend this printer.

When I first got this machine, I was ready to give it 5 stars. It set up easily and made fast, great quality copies. I noticed a couple of glitches but thought them minor. But after a few days I have discovered shortcomings of the unit, hence the 4-stars. I was considering 3 but figure that''s too low since it does basic things well. It is a multi-purpose machine, but not all-purpose.

Pros:

* Excellent quality printing and copies

* Scan-once-print-many I think describes how the machine copies scans a document once and prints as many copies as you order. Good feature!

* Fast (compared to my old HP LJ5P)

* Simple toner cart loading

* Allows straight-through printing for heavy stock you don''t want to curl

* Fairly easy manual paper feed, but with a shut-down quirk (see below)

* Standby mode nice to save energy

* Good price after rebate

Cons:

* It''s not a computer-linked scanner as I thought. Looks like one, isn''t.

* Paper handling is less than stellar. Paper cartridge falls out if not handled exactly correctly, but paper doesn''t come out with it, spilling all over the floor (reminds me of the card game 52 Pickup). The cartridge actually is only half a cartridge -open at the end inside the printer, not anchored well, feels flimsy. Paper tray on my old HP 5P is years better than this one.

* Machine locks up if you feed an odd-size sheet through the manual paper feed. No way to reset it except unplug. So it prints only one odd-size sheet at a time. Print one, unplug, print another, unplug.... I''m used to a button that clears errors and resets. None on this printer. You can pre-set paper size to avoid the lockup, but sometimes I have one smaller sheet to print for which the unit does not have a setting.

* Kind of big, both footprint and height, but that may not be a problem for you.

The large block of "Cons" makes this look more negative than I feel it should, but those are the negatives I find. If you don''t need a machine than scans to the computer, and if you can handle the quirky paper-feed requirements, it''s great. At the price, if it were used just as a copier for a small office it would be well worth the price.

-16pp/m is snail''s pace by 2009 standards (wish I''d done that research first).

-The surface glass is tiny and isn''t good for anything larger than regular paper size. i.e.) try to photocopy any except small books and you can barely do two pages at a time

-it won''t work with Mac at all ever (called Canon)

-return policy for some of these shippers is nonexistent (check first)

The main attraction to this copier is the net price considering the product abilities. The Canon D340 copier replaced a Canon PC920, which did a yeoman job througout its life. The new copier adds an auto-feed feature which is very handy, and works well. Other than that, the scanning area is miniscule compared to the PC920, making copying from a book next to impossible. The D340 weighs about one half of the PC920, which may reflect the quality and longevity of the new model.

The main problem is that with the $ Rebate that was offered, it was a good deal. The terms and conditions were a little stringent, and were carefully carried out, and to no avail. Although we documented the rebate terms, have photocopies of everything sent, Canon appears to have had no intention of sending the rebate. We received a form letter saying the rebate was not honored because "UPC lable is missing". This is not true, as we have photo copies of the original cut from the carton. We intend to pursue this through Amazon, the seller, and AMEX, the credit card company. In the meantime, when dealing with CANON, let the buyer beware.

After years of using high quality fast paced business copiers, our business shrunk down to the point that we no longer needed an expensive fast copier, just one that did the job. When we read the reviews on this copier we were hoping that this one would provide the same quality copies as the large business copiers. We are not disappointed. The quality is right up there with the big guys! Of course it doesn''t make copies as fast but it does make good copies and it is easy to set up to your computer server and generate copies through your network!

Another example of Amazon selling office supplies at lower prices than the big-box office stores, this card stock is EXACTLY the same as what the office supply stores sell but at a better price, and delivered free as well! I bought this paper to print a large portion of information cards and it worked well. We''ve been using this brand of card stock for a long time, alongside Xerox brand card stock which is just a tad bit nicer in my opinion. However, for 90% of print jobs this variety works perfectly fine.

My only complaint is that we ordered 5 reams and they all shipped in the same box which was a tad too big. Several of the reams packaging was broken, although the paper itself was fine.

Great paper at a great price. You can''t go wrong here.

I have worked with 3 dyesub printers, the Cannon CD-300, the Sony DV-77, and this printer. This printer produces the best images. Everytime I display prints I get comments on how good they are. The prints are sharp and the color is accurate.

I really like the small size of the printer and being able to use the screen on my G2 to select and trim the pictures. I was able to purchase a Canon camera bag that holds the printer, camera, flash, and paper/ink packs.

Another great feature of the printer/camera combination is the speed of the printing. As soon as I select print on the camera the printer starts printing the picture. With other printers I had to wait for print pre-processing.

A drawback of the printer is that the kit to connect it to a computer is not yet available. I get around that by editing the images on my computer and by using the Canon ZoomBrowser software to copy the images to a compact flash card that I can put in the G2 for printing.

This printer produces 4X6 prints on postcard paper that look like they came from a photo lab. The quality is fantastic, and the relatives were in awe. I am very very happy with the printer and the Canon S400 camera I use it with. I now have a portable print studio. Do not confuse this printer with ink jet printers. It uses dye sublimation, a completely different printing process. The result is something that looks and feels like a glossy photo postcard, not a piece of paper. You don''t put ink in it, so there is no ink to jam your print nozzles since neither exist in this printer. You buy the equivalent of ink and paper in kits made from Canon. (KP-36IP, for example)

This printer was very easy to use. Just pop in the cartridge, paper, and plug in the camera. The camera has to be a certain type of Canon, but there is an available computer cable (I have not gotten it yet), to hook up other cameras. The benefit of using a Canon camera with this printer is you can travel without a computer, and still print out pictures. These pictures look beautiful, and the colors are true and bright. Printing couldn''t be easier and fast. I was able to get a print while my 2 year old was frantically trying to pull the plugs, press the buttons and all arms and legs struggling. It''s fun watching the three colors slide in and out in the three passes the printer makes to process the picture. Instant gratification!

I have no complaints with this product. It amazes me a device with so many features for such a low cost can produce the quality of images of the Brother MFC-440cn. It replaced (and improved the quality and speed) of three devices, and freed lots of room at the workstation. There may be more expensive devices that can produce higher quality images, but I can''t imagine the quality can improve much over what this can do. For 8x10 color images it is great. The scanning quality and speed is excellent for my needs. Throw in the fax and copy capability with a color LCD menu screen AND the ability to print directly from memory cards and you''ve got one fantastic and useful piece of equipment. I''ll have to get used to the included software, but it has some nice features as well as some minor quirks. Once you scan an image, it is not intuitive what you are supposed to do next. A small problem overall. Changing cartridges is the most convenient and simple process I''ve experienced on an inkjet printer. I would buy this device again.

I used to use a Brother MFC-3240C, which is an excellent all-in-one, but due to the fact that the 3240C used the Super G3 fax protocol, I couldn''t use it to fax with my VoIP Internet Phone service. I needed one that uses the regular G3 fax protocol. I also wanted to upgrade to an all-in-one with a flatbed.

I originally went with an HP OfficeJet 6210 because it was on sale and I thought HP had a pretty good reputation. I was quickly disappointed by its performance. The scan speed on that thing was slow (about 45 seconds for 1 page at 200dpi), and the ADF made a huge noise ejecting each sheet of paper. After using my Brother MFC-3240 which scanned very fast, about 20 seconds per page, this was painful. I was not impressed with the scanning capabilities at all. The quality of the scanned images were also quite sub-par. I also ran into some technical problems with it running on Windows Vista, which HP proudly claims on their site that this the OfficeJet 6210 was "Certified for Windows Vista". Their technical support, however, said otherwise and that I should wait until their official software is available for Vista... ETA unknown.

I quickly returned the OfficeJet and decided to get the Brother MFC-440CN. It has all the features I''m looking for... an ADF with a flatbed scanner and a fax that was using the standard G3 protocol. First off, I love the color LCD screen. Besides the fact that it''s pretty, it makes navigating through menus much easier. The scanner is much faster too... about 20 seconds per page just like the MFC-3240C. The ADF is also much quieter than the HP OfficeJet. Scan quality is great... good enough for document archiving. I wouldn''t use it to scan high-res photos though.

Faxing over VoIP works perfectly, which I''m very happy about.

All in all, I''m extremely happy with the MFC-440CN! If you''re debating whether to get this or an HP OfficeJet, I definitely recommend the MFC-440CN.

Not wanting to end up with yet another dissapointing printer, I did a lot of researching before purchasing the brother 440cn... It is better than I expected. Unlike some online review sites indicate, I find the print quality excellent, and it is faster than I am used to. It is very full featured and is economical for ink (even more so now that aftermarket cartdriges are available for it). I didn''t think I would care for the LCD screen, but I find it adds a lot to the ease of use. Its appearance is very balanced and conservative, not over stylized like some competing models. Looking at online pictures I thought it was black and gray, but it actually charcoal and dull silver... looks nice. The photo bypass tray is really handy to have, although you have to slide out the tray and change the position its much quicker than having to put in different paper each time you want to print a picture. If you are a demanding office user that needs your printer to crank out fifty page documents in record time, look elsewhere, but if you are looking for something easy to use and that does the job without paper jams or color problems due to ink drying out, this is a good choice.

I''ve always been a fan of Brother products. I currently own two of their laser printers and couldn''t be more pleased with the quality and features of the products compared to the price I paid. With the MFC-400cn, the features continue to impress, though the quality is sadly missing.

It wasn''t long ago when a typical home office would have a separate fax machine, printer, scanner and even a table-top copier. Thanks to technology, all of these functions are available nowadays in "all-in-one" units, such as the MFC-440CN. The benefits are obviously less overall space being taken up, not to mention less consumables to buy for each individual product.

Some of the things that impress me the most about the 440CN are the built-in networking (a necessity even for home users nowadays) and the automatic document feeder (ADF). In fact, the document feeder is what really got me interested in this product to begin with. I was impressed a product with such a low price for the home user would have an ADF. Overall, it works very well -you can put up to 10 sheets of paper (according to the manual, and I''ve fed up to 15 without any problem) in the ADF for scanning or copying.

The copy and fax functions work well -and the fax machine itself even supports color faxing, a relatively new feature that not many fax machines support. The copying is quick and the results are impressive for a home machine. Be warned though, that this machine does not have a duplexing feature so two-sided copies are a manual process.

Now, let''s talk about some of the not so good features of this printer. First, the paper tray. Brother had a great idea to put both the paper cassette and photo paper tray together. However, as I soon found out, that unlike my HP photo printer, the photo tray must be manually locked into place when you want to print 4x6 photos and then manually unlocked when you are done. It''s not a time consuming process, but it is something that you have to keep in mind and remember to do -luckily, I did not buy this MFC for the photo capabilities.

Second, the paper cassette itself is very flimsy. I was afraid I was going to break it when I was using it for the first time. The plastic is very thin and of low quality. I don''t expect it to stand up to the test of time and use.

One of the most confusing things about this printer is the menu system. You really have to be a master navigator to get around and setup all the options. I found myself giving up a few times trying to find basic settings (like where do I set the broadcast name for the FAX function). There is optional software you can install to do remote setup that works much easier than using the built-in menus.

Speaking of software, I will give Brother credit for supplying a Vista CD for those of us running Vista. However, the software itself is bloat-ware and doesn''t work exactly as advertised -I''m still trying to figure out how to allow Windows to receive automatic scans from the printer.

Overall, its a good BUDGET multi-function machine, but you should be aware of its drawbacks. I don''t expect this machine to last nowhere near as long as my other Brother products, and I hope that this machine isn''t representative of the quality that Brother is manufacturing nowadays.

My old one died (yes, error 41) and I needed a new one. Tired of Brother printers, I looked elsewhere only to find that they don''t work well on a home network. So here I am, back again, buying a Brother, the notorious waster of ink. Yet, it is great. It worked IMMEDIATELY on my home network with every computer MAC or PC in the apartment. No problems. Printing is clear, nice. "Relatively" fast. I love the fact that you can scan wirelessly to any computer in the house or have your faxes forwarded to your computer when they come in. Many great functions. I recommend going to inksoutlet.com and getting the multipack replacement cartridges for less than 4 bucks each cartridge. You''ll save a fortune as it is a Brother printer and they BLEEEEEED ink. But with a $30 multipack, you get 3 black and two of the others, so you''ll be good to go for a long time. Otherwise, the printer is great.

I''ve used this stock with both the Canon Pixma iX6520 Inkjet Printer (4895B002) and the Epson WorkForce 1100 Wide-Format Color Inkjet Printer (C11CA58201). Both give great results, but the Canon does a better job with blacks, because it uses two different ink chemistries for black simultaneously.

In any case, this stock is gorgeous for art prints, and also for custom book covers. Color profiles are available, although we have not used them. In either printer, we just choose the "photo quality inkjet paper matte" or whatever setting is closest to that, and the highest resolution printing.

I''ve got several prints hanging on my wall using this paper, and they are all spectacular. Highly recommended.

Please also note, Inkpress makes a Warm Tone version of this paper. I love the samples, but have yet to find a project that will work with it. Cool Tone is perfect for our work, which is mostly photographic with some illustration, all in color.

The cartridge in the replacement kit is identical to the one that comes with the trimmer originally (versus some places that sell cheaper versions as replacements.) The Canon BC-02 Black ink cartridge is becoming difficult to find...for good reason..most of the printers that it fits were made between 1994 and 1998. I just "retired" my Canon BJC-210 printer after 17 years of reliable printing, with the difficulty of finding "fresh" ink a factor in its retirement...for it still is printing just as good as it did back in 1995.

If you happen to have a Canon BC-02 cartridge in its original box, you should consider keeping it as a relic of the early days of home computers. It is very unlikely that any home printer sold in 2012 will be in service 17 years from now...today''s printers don''t last much longer than the ink cartridges they are sold with.

I hope Amazon and its vendors will continue to supply the BC-02, if fresh cartridges are available. They don''t last long in storage, so after the factory stops supplying fresh ones, it is really the end of a long road.

After lots of searching on Amazon and at my local IKEA, I bought two of these for my desk. I have a very long, fairly wide flat desk which was always messy. Now since these look so sleek and have given me different levels to put stuff on I am inspired by the look and functionality and keep my desk nice and clear. My husband and I joke that I now have the sexiest desk in the country! :-) I use one for my printer and one for my flat screen monitor. Unlike a lot of products you have the top level, the middle raised level, then your desk underneath making the lowest level. The middle raised level has a little lip on the back of it which I like. One of the motivations for getting this is I switched to using a mac mini we bought used on ebay. The mac mini and a external extra hard drive both fit well on the middle raised level, and my monitor is on the top level, so it looks very nice. I had hoped that my basic mac keyboard could be stored on the very bottom level which is really the desk when not in use, but the keyboard is an inch or two too wide. I already have a clear hard acrylic cover for my keyboard (to keep my cats from barfing on it at night) so that''s OK. Yes the color of this item is sort of a matte silver with a faint hint of olive but I don''t really care. It will not be the exact color of the mac mini but who cares. I am not a huge fan of metal things and prefer wood, but these are strong and practical and look great so they won me over. Also all the holes in them will probably help to keep my electronics cool so that''s another winning point. For the one w/the printer on top I have a journal & a few things I need to file on the middle level, then my appointment book on the lowest level which is really just my desk but it looks put away there rather then just sitting anywhere on my desk. It never occured to me to get something to elevate my monitor to improve my posture, but it really does encourage me to hold my neck and back more straight. Oh one more thing the shipping was nice and fast, plus they come all put together so you just take it out of the box & inner bag and voila!

I was having trouble with adjusting the height of my monitor so that I didn''t get neck pain. I bought this stand and it is perfect for my LCD monitor. It solved my neck pain problem. A big boost is that the treys allow for removing a bunch of clutter from my desktop.

I highly recommend it it: It''s sturdy and stable, provides lots of storage space for staplers, glasses, pens, mail etc and it looks quite attractive to my eye.

This is listed as a monitor/printer stand, but I bought it to hold my laptop.

I recently bought a high-performance laptop to replace my aging and failed desktop. I needed something that I could easily remove the laptop from and could hold the 24" monitor on my corner desk. Space is absolutely at a premium in my office setup, so this stand was a long time coming.

We added a 1500 page feeder. It was easy to setup and the unit just sits on top or the additional paper feeder. It is not quiet but also not noisy (unless you happen to be sitting right next to it). First page comes out quickly and print speed is fast, close to our xerox printer rated at about the same speed. Only had it a week so don''t know about reliability. We plan on using refurbished high capacity cartridges and the cost per page for toner will be about $0.066 which again compares to the Xerox copier/printer. We got this because the Xerox has not been reliable. Has it''s own drivers on the HP web site. Using the 32bit and 64bit Win 7 drivers without a problem.

With the high cost of ink, the larger capacity cartridges can do the job for about a penny a page, according to my calculations. This unit is a printing press. Easy to get set up with the drivers, works great....so far, no problems. Bought it to print minimum 5000 pages per month.

Purchased it to run envelopes. Purchased a separate envelope feeder. First it wouldn''t recognize the feeder. When that was taken care of, then it wouldn''t recognize the tray 2. Try and call HP during the limited hours they are open for business products and you may as well pull your hair out. I have had many, many hp printer products over the years and never had trouble such as this. Followed through with the instructions on the internet, still doesn''t recogize tray 2. When I did get in touch with HP, I got some man with the personality of a dead fish. When I explained that I had already done what he was suggesting, he treated me like an imbecile. NO thanks. If I can''t take a printer out of the box and plug it in without being forced to call HP, it is obviously not the printer for me. I have a busy office and this has set me back at least a week.

I have used this for both photos and, more recently, to print jewel-case inserts (album covers) for CDs. The CD covers are a combination of photo, color background, and text. The quality is excellent and matte is a good choice for this application. I am using an off-the-shelf Brother MFC-440n, which is a little painful speed-wise, but it likes this paper and so long as you properly set your print parameters in the pop-up panel, you don''t experience the darkening that another reviewer complained about.

I have also used the 2-sided capability in general photo printing. There are absolutely no bleed-through issues and since ink dries very fast on this paper, it is really convenient for this use.

Excellent paper at an attractive price.

4 stars based primarily on high value; I''m always looking for a photo paper with very high image quality (usually matte) at a low price for common printing but not long term retention (use best glossy papers for that). This paper prints on par with the best Canon matte that I''ve frequently used, and some good Kodak and HP papers in the past. But, the shipping quality is generally poor; one package of 7 bent so much I returned it; only 3 of the other 6 were in perfect condition. Also, only 2 of the 6 packs were clearly finished equally well on both sides for true double sided printing. For the other 4, there was clearly a "back" side of lesser quality -erratic quality in terms of double siding, but I only print one side ever. The "side 1" quality with coating I''d call very consistent and prints very nicely, hence at this price I would buy again. But any more damaged in shipping, I''ll return each of those from now on back to Amazon (at least the return label provided gives free return shipping for damaged product). But if you''re looking for 2 sided printing, my experience so far is hit or miss on that.

You can not get better color from your computer printer for pictures then by using Hewlett Packard Glossy Paper. HOWEVER

unless you live in 30% Relative Humidity year round it will wrinkle like a lasagna noodle. Bite the bullet and buy the much more expensive Premium PLUS Photo Paper unless you want to keep your pictures under glass or only show them in the winter. Please note, under glass does not mean in a frame, they will wrinkle there also.
