HP OfficeJet 9130 All-in-One

HP OfficeJet 9130 All-in-One
  • Prints, copies, scans, and faxes; automatic duplexing
  • Up to 4,800 x 1,200 optimized dpi color printing
  • 3 seconds per page faxing; retractable keyboard
  • Parallel, USB 2.0, HP Jetdirect 620n internal print server
  • Slots for digital camera memory cards; PC and Mac compatible

I purchased this to replace an HP G-85 all in one, and for the most part im extremely pleased.

The scanner function is nothing short of fantastic! once you set up the network card (standard for the 9130) you just hit scan and a speed dial button that you previously configured that points to a folder on your computer; thats it, the printer scans, converts to pdf, and stuffs it over the network and onto your computer! saves me unbelievable amounts of time compared to my old all in one printer.

print function is also good, but it doesnt do the stated ppm. good enough for most things, but i would like somewhat faster.

the one problem i have is paper tray #2. it just doesnt feed right, and it apparently is a design problem. when i use heavier paper, such as the HP bright white 24#, it jams. and jams. and jams. HP was very helpful sending me a new paper tray, new printer, and finally new duplexer (essentially replacing everything), but no luck; it still jams. must be a poor design. the lighter paper seems to work ok (20#) and i had two people at hp help line tell me to use that (sounds like the older doctor line "my arm hurts when i do this", and the doctor replies "then dont do that".) But the HP literature states it will work with bright white 24#, and i bought it based on this ability, so this is a big problem for me.

one other annoyance is that this seems to be the only hp printer ever to not have an envelope slot to feed a single envelope. so if you want envelopes you need to take out the paper in tray #1 and replace with envelopes. you could put envelopes in tray #1 all the time, and bright white in tray #2, but see above regarding feeding issues; this is what i had planned to do!

overall it works well, but with the annoyances stated above, if i could send it back i would.

It''s alright in most respects... I had to install one at work and have been using it for a while... the installation was easy enough; there were a lot of steps but they were explained well...

Print quality is goodno complaints there.

In terms of function I have two primary complaints. First off, the computer seems to have an odd tendency to lose contact with the printer. This results in kind of an irritating situation where you need to turn the printer off and on, or log out and log back inthat sort of thingthen they find eachother again...

The second problem is one that I consider simply poor design. I love the document feeder, but... I''m not sure how to explain this... ok... think of a basic copier with no feeder, you put the page down and a lit bar slides along under it... in ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) enabled equipment, the bar with the light is still thereit just either sits under the ADF or moves and rests under it... then the page is drawn over the lit bar by the feeder... here''s the problem with the 9100 series... each page in the ADF is treated like a separate action to the device and the lit bar is stored on the oposite side of the printer... so, when you go to copy/scan/fax a multipage document the bar has to move under the ADF, so you see it slowly move across under the ADF, the page is inputted, then it moves back to its resting place... then page two... it moves under the ADF, scans and goes back... considering that it takes 5-7 seconds (estimate) to move one way across the glass, this adds a TREMENDOUS time to those actions... I was particularly confused because the device does not recognize another page is in the ADF, so it runs that complete course for each page... that can add a huge amount of time to a big document... I don''t see why HP didn''t either store the lit bar under the ADF or program it to stay under it if another page is in the ADF... seems a little dumb to me...

Otherwise it''s not bad... it works... it just could have been better...

I went to Fry''s Electronics to try a demo.

Using a 9130 unit, I tried to print one page, and it jammed.

Then i examined the unit front panel and discovered 2 manufacturing defects.

This looks like a poorly built printer.

DO NOT BUY NEW. DO NOT BUY USED. THIS IS THE BIGGEST PIECE OF JUNK EVER MADE AND SOLD TO THE UN-SUSPECTING PUBLIC. THE SCANNER DOES NOT WORK. THEREFORE NO COPYING, NO FAXING, NO SCANNING. ONLY HALF-ASSED PRINTING. THE PAPER TRAYS STINK AND ARE USELESS. WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT ME TO SAY TO DETER YOU FROM EVEN THINKING OF THIS PIECE OF CRAP.

I bought this cartridge to use on my HP Deskjet d135. I had no indication that the cartridge had expired till it arrived with a FEB 2008 date on the box. the HP Deskjet d135 has a sensor in it that recognizes an expired cartridge. Be aware before you buy any expired cartridge, even if remanufactured.

I purchased printer ink as a business and expect QUICK effective service. Product was under packaged in a bubble pack and received damaged. Databazaar would not immediately ship out a replacement demanding I first send back the item before they would send the replacement. Unacceptable! Poor business practice! I will not purchase from again!! This puts me out of color printing for at least 2 weeks!!!

This review is based on usage in a small business where the device is at a satellite office.

This is a good piece of Hardware by HP, but as is typical of HP scanners the software is weak. The printer makes excellent images. The machine is fast from the time you click on print to when the page starts printing, and the printing is fast. This is the highlight of the machine. Two sided copying is excellent. The automatic document feature works well for copy and fax, but the scannning software is a problem.

The first machine I got had a defective fax board, but the store I bought it from let me return it for a new unit. Setup of the machine worked well. You can configure it using a built in web server. You might have trouble finding the machine on the nework, though. Unfortunately it does not respond to ping broadcast packets. You can go to the front panel and go through the menus to print a network report to see what IP address it selected. From there the web access works best to set up the machine. Setting a manual IP address is easy enough from the front panel so you know what IP address to connect to. You can get an optional second paper tray.

While setup of the machine via the web access works well it is limited in that the fax cannot be set up through the web interface. This is unfortunate, since the fax settings are tedious to enter from the front panel. You can use the web interface for the address book, but setting fax settings like address, speed, report settings, and everything else are not changeable except through the front panel.

As far as scanning goes, this is not a push scan device. (A push scan device is one where the scanner does the scan, then transfers to another computer by a network protocol like FTP or SMB). There is a button on the machine to scan, but that just starts up the program you have to install on your computer. The HP scan software is difficult to use and unintuitive. Definitely NOT production environment. It is also bloatwear. Over a thousand files get installed on the computer that serves as the scanning control computer. Also, whenever you scan the document comes out at 17 inches on the computer. The workaround in my setting is to fax to our fax server, which takes the calls and keeps the faxes. In this way I have a push scan option at the cost of a phone call for each scan. But if you have a business you do not want to use this as the document scanner using the HP softwear. I do not know if VueScan works with this device.

If you just need a postscript printer then this will work out of the box. For the advanced features that the printer supports you need to install the postscript driver. It may be possible to install the postscript driver without the scan softwear, which would be best if you have several computers that need to use the printer. I specifically did not install the scan softwear at the satellite location where I use the printer and it works fine as a generic postscript printer. (I installed the bloated HP scanning softwear at the main office where I did the initial configuration)

The printer is the same engine as in the HP LaserJet P2015dn Printer (HP LaserJet P2015dn Printer (CB368A#ABA)). Review there are good for understanding more about the printing function. The cartridge, an HP 53, is shared between this multifunction device and the P2015dn. In a small office having the same cartridge used by different printers simplifies inventory issues.

So, for home use and occasional scanning this is a nice machine, fast to print with very high quality printing. For an office environment it is good as a printer and copier, but the scanning software would choke anyone who needed to do document scanning as part of the business workflow.

I purchased this machine as a replacement unit for a small size company. We have a lot of incoming and outgoing fax. For outgoing fax, this unit will feed the first page then feed about 1/3 of the second page then wait for dialing. It will not scan the whole set into memory first before dialing. Also, we got a lot of fax communication error pages. Many docs are either received or sent incomplete. I downloaded and upgraded the firmware and it still has fax problem. I contacted HP support using online chat and changed error correction and speed settings and I still have fax problem. Ordered and added 256MB memory and still no improvement. Will return this unit for a different brand.

Other notes: the scan is acceptable but slow and too light. Printing/copy function is ok.

This is one of the best printers I have owned. The set up was easy and works quickly and prints, scans, faxes and copies well.

Booklet and double side printing make this really useful.

Downside I cannot scan from Preview and it is noisy.

It works well with iMac and 10.5, some features for Windows are not available but these are minor. Well worth buying. Good for home or small office.

We have a small business and just purchased the LaserJet M2727nf. The device was extremely easy to setup. We just plugged the Ethernet cable into the printer, installed the software for both Vista and XP systems, and the printer was automatically discovered. Setting up the fax and scan was also just as easy. All the functions print, scan, copy, and fax work great. I was especially impressed with the ease-of-use of the scan and fax software.

I have had the printer almost a year. It works great as a printer, scanner, and fax. I have had a few jams at the document feed, but it cleared easily. The software is a nice feature allowing you to scan and attach PDF, JPEG, or other formats to e-mails.

Epson 820S Photo Inkjet Printer (Silver)

Epson 820S Photo Inkjet Printer
  • Up to 2,880 x 720 dpi resolution
  • Uses 6-color quick-drying inks for smudge-free results
  • Supports border-free printing on letter-size paper
  • Prints up to 12 pages per minute in black, or a 4 x 6 inch photo in 48 seconds
  • Parallel and USB interfaces; PC and Mac compatible

I haven''t done alot of printing even tho I bought this back at the beginning of the year. Recently bought an Olympus 3020 and printed some "1st day of school" pictures. I use Epson photo quality inkjet paper to do a first print test (720 dpi), then print final on Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper (1440 dpi). If I put the "test" pics in a frame, no one would know that they were not printed at a lab. The glossy''s (8x10s and 5x7s) fool everyone I show if I didn''t tell them it was on my printer, they''d never know (of course the camera helps too). Haven''t seen a need to use the 2880 dpt yet.

Mine came with software Film Factory which is semi-easy to learn but easy to use after that. Even tho a full sheet of paper could hold 2 5x7s or 4 4x6s, the s/w won''t let me lay the print out that way. I get 2 5x7s by printing one at very top, then turn paper upside down and print again (after 1st print is dry).

If it''s not used often, the heads can become clogged. Does go through ink, so I always have replacement ready (color mostly have yet to replace the BW). I only use for photo printing. Have another for text so cannot say how it does there.

Using the USB port and can''t really say I''ve ever timed a print. I usually go and do something else while I wait I had a print freeze after 2/3 done when I went to do something else on the PC at the same time, so now I just leave it alone (system is W2k, AMD XP 1800, 512 DDR memory so the system is not anemic).

Had a few problems trying to get the USB driver set up and recognizing the printer, but after a few attempts at loading the drivers it all came together. Even w/these few problems, it deserves a 5.

I have always been partial to Canon and Lexmark printers, but the Epson Stylus 820s blew my mind away. Never had i had the ease of setting up a printer in seconds (i am not kidding...i really mean less than a minute). It has both parallel and USB connectivity, fantastic color print even on normal paper. And get this, the contents of the package include some photo glossy paper. Aside from the fact that it looks cool, it is not noisy like other printers i have used. It also spits out text documents in little or no time. The printer boasts of a feature called Print Imaging Matching (P.I.M), which greatly enhances printouts of digital pictures in outstanding quality..up tp 2800 x 720 dpi. But enough said, i could go on and on and bore people....if you are scouting around for an affordable color ink jet printer but desire just as much quality, look no further than the Epson Stylus 820s. For [the price] it is definitely the deal of the millenium.

This printer is good but slow. Good things come to those who wait though. You can hardly see the dots compared to HP, I won''t even dare compare lexmark''s ... output. HPs I''ve used also has banding which is very noticeable. I always get a "WOW" from people on glossy paper from non Epson photo users. 6 color inks do make a difference because even Epson users with 4 color printers notice the difference. ... The epson 820 prints only last for 1 year at best if displayed and not laminated. If I hang them on a door that is exposed to florescent light 24x7 it fades fast. When I keep them in one of those folders for pictures in good tempurature and conditions they look just as good, even 3 years from now.

Want Epson 820S Photo Inkjet Printer (Silver) Discount?

Having a Epson Stylus Color, Photo 780 and now the Photo 820, I can tell you that this is the slowest of them all. (using the same G4 Titanium Powerbook. Printing out photo quality may make you wonder if it is even on...don''t cancel the job thinking it crashed the first time you use it like I did. That said, the print quality is respectable and the price is great (free if you buy a system). See Consumer Reports latest issue...up to 12 minutes for a photo quality sheet!

Epson thought their unique print head design would set their products apart, allowing superior quality prints. Instead, it''s their printers'' Achilles heel: because the print heads are not part of the ink cartridge, you can''t just switch cartridges to fix a messed-up print head, and there''s no way to get at the heads to clean them manually. With Epson printers, when your heads are badly clogged, there''s not much you can do except bring it to a repair shop. Maybe not even that.

This printer has had chronic problems with clogging, constantly showing stripes of missing color. The heads have needed to be cleaned almost every time I''ve printed anything, and I''ve spent at least 1/3 of each (expensive) ink cartridge just cleaning the heads, that process uses amazing amounts of ink. This week, the heads seem to be permanently gunked shut. I hadn''t printed anything in color in about 5 weeks, and each of the five colors is now either stripey or completely blocked, no matter how many times I run the "clean" routine.

Another stupid design choice: when just one of the 5 colors of ink runs out, you have to replace ALL FIVE. That''s ridiculous. Unless you''re Epson and want to make a killing on ink sales, that is.

Save yourself a lot of trouble, and avoid poorly designed printers -like this one.

I bought this film because my photography teacher told me that there was no true black and white like real black and white film. Being the great student I was, I picked up a maxxum film camera, whose lenses are compatible with my Sony camera. Turns out my photography teacher was right! This film has a PERFECT grain to detail ratio. Although developing it is quite expensive ( $20.00 per roll) I still enjoyed the pictures I got back from this film. In fact, if film weren''t so expensive I''d put my DSLR down for good!

This paper is simply amazing. Before manufacturers discovered how to make large amounts of wood pulp in the 1840s, paper was made from pulped rags of linen and cotton. That''s why so many antique books look amazing. It lasts forever, and it feels almost like the paper cloth they use to make money. Anyway, I highly recommend this for any kind of art writing, such as calligraphy or quill. The surface is just rough enough to take ink well, but still smooth and professional. Canon KC-36IP Color Ink Paper Set Save 13% off

Canon KC-36IP Color Ink Paper Set
  • For use in Canon CP-100, CP-200, and CP-300 printers
  • 36 photo sheets
  • Convenient credit card size
  • Includes color ink ribbon
  • Genuine Canon quality accessory

The product description is unfortunately not sufficiently clear: this paper refill is credit-card size, not the more common 4x6. It requires a special paper cassette that does not come with the printer and must be purchased separately (PCC-CP100). The dye-sub film and the paper cassettes are keyed and the printer will refuse to work if they don''t match.

In terms of print quality, you get the classic Canon mini dye-sub results: spectacular. Just make sure this is what you want to order, and check that you have the required paper cassette to avoid unpleasant surprises.

I bought it with what I thought were optimistic expectations, and was VERY surprised at how much more I got than I expected.

The print quality is AMAZING, even under a magnifying glass.. they are exactly like a photo... better than my Epson Stylus Pro 1280, but only 4" x 6".

My wife is crazy about it so it''s a keeper.

I''ve seen a few reviews rating this product poorly. Howver, for me, it''s worked great for printing business cards. The printer colors are slightly different on the actual card than in Photoshop, but I just adjust in Photoshop until the printout is right, then print away.

this credit card paper set works great pictures turn out very good. its nice to be able to print out wallet size photos. no more printing 2 or 4 pictures on 4x6 and having to do a lot of cutting. although printing on 4x6 is cheaper but having this set is great to have. now I can just order a few school pictures and scan them on computer and make as many as I want and save money. after I just found out that my ex wife just spent over $1000 dollars on senior school pictures. LOL I can say I''m happy to have this set and the 4x6 set and will be doing a lot of printing. will I buy this again YES shipped and rec on time,

I was nervous about getting an all-in-one printer. Usually these printers do an average job at three different things and don''t really do anything well. But, I had good reviews elsewhere (Consumer Reports, etc.) and decided to give it a chance.

Pros:

*Fast Printer

*Very good quality (we printed our Christmas cards with a black and white picture on it and people were surprised it came off of our printer).

*Good copier and quick

*Easy to set up

*Easy to use

*Less expensive ink--I have had Lexmarks and other brands but the ink was very expensive. Epson is relatively inexpensive comparing with other printer ink costs.

Cons:

The biggest con that I have found with this printer is the out of ink problem. You have 4 different cartridges (black, cyan, magenta and another color). If one of those cartridges runs out, you cannot print anything. It locks you up until your replace that cartridge. This is silly because if you still have black, why can''t you just print black and white?

Overall

I am pleased and think it is a terrific printer/scanner/copier all at a good price.

Got this for Christmas. So far, no problems.

We upgraded from just a standard printer. Having a copier (both B&W & Color!) has already proven to be quite handy as many recipes were traded over the holidays!

Scanner: Have not had a bonafide use yet, but I see that it scans just fine. Resolution is much better than I expected. Also, even though this machine is not marketed as a fax machine, with some simple tweaking to Windows (via the Fax Wizard) it essentially becomes a fax machine. Scan your image to the computer and send as a fax OR receive a fax on the computer and print to the printer. Simple!

Like the idea of separate color cartridges a lot. Right now they are running pretty even (there is a handy gauge that shows the ink level of each cartridge), I can see that if you print a run of sunset pictures, you are going to run shy of yellow much quicker than blue. Cartridges are in the thirtie$ for a big black one and 10-12 for each color.

Reads directly from a multitude of memory cards. Have not tried printing this way and since the printer has no LED screen, it seems this might prove tricky, I shant pre-judge. Nice to know it can do it.

Print speed is a big step up from our old Lexmark 52. Both color and B&W. Have printed a couple photos and can find no faults. They are lovely.

Found the software to be quite adequate for my needs so far. Not buggy and is really quite clear from an instructional point of view.

Anyway, for $150, it''s a LOT of technology for the casual user. It''s astounding to realize that 10 years ago, you couldn''t have touched this kind of hi-tech wizardry for under $5000. I don''t know if I would rely on this machine for a business, but who knows? You''re not out a lot of money for the try! Bottom line: Out of the box, it is a very good machine. Long term durability and costs remain to be seen!

TWO YEARS LATER!!!

Well, judging from the rest of the reviews, we lucked out with this printer. It really surprises me to see all these negative reviews. For us, the printer has been pretty near flawless. The only complaint I have is in regards to ink drain. It seems pretty fast but I have little basis to compare to. Maybe it''s average for all I know.

As for operations, it''s great! It''s a very good scanner and printer. Photos STILL print without flaws. It has good computer interface (tells you how much ink you have, etc.) I''m really quite happy with this unit. Two years later, I guess if it falls apart tomorrow I got my $150 worth.

Epson printers have a horrible history of irreversible clogging just around 1-2 years of life. Until then they deserve their glowing 5 star reviews...but only buy one if you keep printers only about a year. Something about the design...but I am currently typing this with inky hands after 2 hours of unscrewing, tugging, and rummaging around in the belly of the printer. I got the ink hose off and am working out all the dried up ink with a piece of wire and some paint thinner. Meanwhile, I doubt I can manuever the hose back on. I just figure the thing is dead anyway, it can''t hurt to try and is kinda fun. (Mine worked longer than average...15 months so I figure it''s OK to be cavalier).

If you decide to get an Epson remember these tips:

1. print something every day

2. power off your printer when not using it (so the thing can make minor adjustments)

3. ocassionally squirt some alcohol down the print nozzle (the pointy thing in the head after you take the cartridge out).

4. Maybe even run the head cleaning function once a month or so, though that EATS ink and the Epson cartridges are very expensive.

The point is to always keep the ink moving so it can''t dry in there. After one month of inactivity while I moved houses mine dried up to what appears to be beyond repair.

OK...off I go with my inky fingers to squeeze more goo.

I got the RX-6600 and so far it''s been great, especially for photo printing. Setup was easy (on Windows 2000 Pro), though some of the included software was weak. I ended up using Photoshop for some non-standard printing configurations that the software couldn''t handle too readily. The printer does create borderless photos.

It accepts multiple types of memory sticks, although there''s no LCD screen to preview, so you''ll need to know the filename or the photo number to print it. The printer has an "average" footprint, and isn''t excessively heavy. While printing, it''s fairly quiet.

I had gotten the printer primarily for the photo printing, and the DuraBrite system has been exceptional. We printed out all of our holiday photo cards, and the quality was amazing, including great depth of color and really dark blacks, while the regular color photo paper appeared more "washed out."

The package includes 10 DuraBrite 4x6 sheets and 10 regular 4x6 sheets, but doesn''t include a USB cable. There''s a funky internal connection to the USB cable, which is then threaded through the innards of the printer and out the back, which ends up wasting around 2 feet of USB cable so I needed to get the more expensive 10'' cable instead of a 6'' if I could have plugged it into the back directly.

I''m not sure if the other reviewer''s concern about the print heads is too big a deal. At the price (I bought it at a big-box store for $150 (on a $50 rebate)), it''s not something to worry about.

Instead of 1 Black ink cartridge and one "color" cartridge, it has 1 black and 1 each of Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow 4 total enabling one to replace one cartridge (if you use all the blue, for example), instead of a whole color cartridge. Not sure yet if that will be a problem, but each of them were between $10-12.

The scanner is pretty good, though the software (again) isn''t as good as other suites I''ve seen, but it does the job and doesn''t require a lot of training. Regular printing was easy and looked great, and I haven''t used the copy function yet, as that was the least important feature, but wanted it just in case, rather than driving to Kinko''s for one copy.

All in all, I''m very satisfied with the printer and it''s features, and look forward to using it regularly.

as we all know reviews are over rated. I had a cx 5600 before and it was good but then i started becoming cheap and bought the no name ink for it and it messed it up. if you want a good printer the cx 6600 is for you. it has all features u need colors are good for its price and works for business since i currently own UISRegistry.com and i print up around 500-600 business cards weekly and around 40-50 advertisement brochures this is your printer unless you are looking for a dot matrix which as the other reviewers complained about print heads.

Truth be told:

Want to print fast?

Dont want heads to clog?

Want the perfect printer?

answer: dont buy a all in one machine get a dot matrix and seperate machines all in one machines are made for typical / less perfection required users so stop fronting over some small errors and giving it bad stars this is the best printer you will get for the low price they are giving it to you at.

So if you are looking for a good machine get the CX6600

I bought this printer at Sam''s club (under $100) to replace another wireless machine an HP Photosmart psc 2510 that was worked successfully for several years.

The full installation process takes well over half an hour. Unfortunately, I was not able to get the wireless function working, despite many attempts and installing/uninstalling/reinstalling on two different computers. Lexmark live text support was very responsive, but after several hours of back and forth with them over the course of two days there were unable to get it going. In the end, the printer was accessible on my wireless network (I could ping it and log onto its URL) but it just stubbornly refused to print via wireless.

The machine did print reliably when connected via USB cable. Nice graphics, although fairly slow to spool up and to finish printing. Also, their software seems to enjoy putting annoying pop-ups on the screen.

Lexmark finally suggested that I give them remote control over my machine, but I was unwilling, considering that I would have to repeat the process on at least four different machines (2 desktops and two laptops).

It just shouldn''t be this hard to install a printer. I finally boxed up the thing and took it back.

They can call me when they have a better product.

This printer took a turn for the worse. From the moment it was taken out of the box it was seemingly a great printer for the money. It printed high quality photos, scanned in great detail, and was simple to set up. Well, at least for the first month. From there on out the printer started slowly having issues. It first started making noises as if something possessed the machine and were about to print out a 100-page document. However, at least it was still capable of performing all of its functions. After unplugging it for the first time from the initial install the printer went haywire. It would connect to my computer, but for some reason would not print anything i sent to it. After spending many hours on their website and talking to their customer service I was still unable to make any progress. After giving up on the life of the printer I plugged it back in to see if it could at least scan documents. I should have known I was in for a repeat of hours of wasted time and absolutely no progress. Let alone the the technical issues with the printer, it is impossible to refill the ink for this printer. Thus, you have to buy a ridiculously overpriced cartridge that cost as much as buying a brand new printer. Thankfully i bought this printer at a discounted price, but I would like to inform anyone else looking to buy this printer to not purchase this product.

I saw some reviews indicating that they had trouble with the wireless, given that I am very Tech Saavy, I was not concerned. It was actually simple to configure and only took about 10 minutes. The print quality is great, but I think that applies to most. I like the duplexing feature and there are large ink cartridges available too. My guess is that some people had problems configuring wireless due to security on their router, but following the directions should prevent issue. P.S. Super fast printing a big improvement over my old printer.

How about a pop-up once a week? you ink is low, for about 2 months.

How about anther pop-up? did you know you can recycle your ink

How about another? time to order more ink.

Not to mention the 5 calls to tech support, and I only get it to print about 1/3rd of the time. Save your money. Buy a print server and a real printer!

They have a sticker on the packages saying the colors are brighter and they won''t crack. I tried those first and they are beautiful. I bought some more, but they didn''t have the sticker on them. Those must be what everyone here is reviewing. The old ones are indeed waxy with okay colors. I hope they don''t peel like everyone says. But those improved ones are wonderful brilliant colors and nice feel, not waxy at all. Trust me, there is a difference. I haven''t washed the new improved ones yet, but they do look like they are durable and will withstand the wash. Wish there was a way to tell if the package we are getting from Amazon is new or old. I think the stock number is the same.

UPDATE: It has been an entire year since I''ve done some thirty or so transfers using various brands. Those new and improved Avery transfers are the best. One year later, through repeated washings, the new and improved ones still look bright and beautiful. The others are old and faded. Look carefully on the package. If they are new and improved Avery, that''s the one you want.

It seems to me that what transfer paper tries to accomplish is pretty remarkable: a relatively easy way for people who do not have special equipment or skills to print their own images on fabric. In the past, transferring a design to fabric could be accomplished by silk screen (messy, complicated, and sometimes very expensive), by embroidery (needs a pretty well developed skill set and a *lot* of patience), by painting directly on the fabric with fabric paint (okay, how many of us are painters and able to create to our satisfaction the image of our pet or a favorite landscape as well as we can accomplish this digitally?), or by other more time consuming or skill-intensive means.

None of the methods mentioned are dummy-proof (I say this as a first rate crafts dummy, myself). In other words, the results are as likely to be disappointing as not. Unsurprisingly, for a number of reasons this is true of transfer paper, as well.

First, the image you see on your computer monitor is very likely not the image you''ll be able to replicate exactly on fabric. There are several reasons for this. First, you might already notice that the colors in your photos don''t print exactly as they appear on the monitor. If this is true, the calibration is off. Ways of addressing this differ, but put "color calibration" into a search engine.

Second, I get better results by making the image darker than for printing on photo or ordinary paper. I think this might be in part because...

Third, it has begun to seem doubtful that an ordinary iron can maintain temperatures hot enough to transfer the image fully, especially if the colors are supposed to be dark, deeply saturated, or bright. Although our iron can be set to very hot temperatures (ouch! ouch!), the iron is not in continuous contact with all of the image at once. Consequently, sometimes there is a little trouble with the image rippling and thus shifting a little. In the repeated passes that must be made with the iron, I suspect that the iron does not remain hot enough. Related to this, I think, is that the times proposed by the manufacturer for heating the transfer have not been long enough, sometimes by a factor of two or three.

So these are all reasons that one could say the product doesn''t work well. Still, for me it represents an interesting way of printing my own design on fabric. Mostly, I haven''t the patience or skills for other ways and for reliable results, I believe the better choice would be use the services of someone who has professional equipment and skill. But I really do enjoy experimenting, myself, to see what can be made.

For what the product is trying to do, it seems relatively inexpensive (though not cheap, by any means) to me. But the operative word really is "experimenting", because the results are by no means certain. I''ve knocked off a star because IMHO the manufacturer''s blurb leads people to expect more than the product is at this point capable of delivering. It really is an experiment and I can''t help feeling that folks would be less disgruntled if Avery were to dial back their description to one that is perhaps more realistic.

I used these for my students (3rd10th grade) to print a Photoshop design on tee shirts. They performed well for all of the students on tee shirts brought from home. Not all of the tee shirts were clean... not all of the students were good with ironing... but the tee shirts came out looking great. The tee shirt I made has small images on it from screenshots with textimages/text are crisp/clear despite small size.

As the instructions say: wash before wearing. The kids put theirs on right away but it felt too stiff to me. After washing, it is comfortable and still bright.

Notes: the iron we used was a heavy old iron with a fabric covered cord. I think this iron works better than the lighter weight modern sort. The instructions say to do 20 second passes across fabric, and that is perfect for kids, as they can count 1 hippopotamus, etc. Follow the instructions and be sure to load the paper in remembering which way your printer loads and prints paper. I used an unfamiliar printer where the paper needs to go in print-side down not up and printed the first one on the transfer backing by mistake.

Have fun!

I have had no problems with this product so far. I used it to print some graphics onto non-stretch 100% cotton fabric. My fabric was a dark beige color, and the color still came through really well.

For what it''s worth, I followed the ironing instructions VERY closely, and everything went super smoothly I was able to easily peel the backing away after letting the transfer cool for 2 3 minutes. I did notice that the transfer appeared slightly shiny on the fabric this wasn''t an issue for me, but I thought I''d mention it. Also, I was happiest with the results when I trimmed the paper as close as possible to the edge of the graphic I was transferring just a tip.

I haven''t tried washing the finished products yet hopefully they hold up reasonably well. If they don''t, I''ll update this review.

***UPDATE: I''ve now washed (cold water) and dried (low heat) the products a few times, and am happy to report that they have held up really well. No cracking, fading or bleeding.***

I tried several iron-ons. They go on easily enough, but crack almost immediately when you''re wearing them. small or large; doesn''t matter the size. I followed the directions carefully and even timed the ironing down to the second. Does''t matter--they crack! JUNK, and a waste of money. Now I have ruined T''s. One shirt I actually washed--it was ruined anyway--and the stuff flaked off in the washer. Same thing happens to HP transfers, according to the reviews. It could be the ink in the printers aren''t compatible? Reason why some are okay and some not? Don''t know but they need to put that on the package to warn people!
