I bought this product because I liked the reviews and I like the price. The cards went through the printer fine, but I was disappointed by the quality of the finished product. I print cards using photos that my wife and I have taken. We have used Avery''s 1/2 fold matt finish stock in the past, but we were looking to save a little money and bought this card stock. We printed two cards, one on Printworks and one on Avery''s 1/2 fold matt finish paper, using the same program, same picture, and the same printer. The difference was very evident. The Printworks was flat, lacked the contrast, the vibrant color, and the color accuracy of the Avery card. If you are looking for cardstock to make photo cards out of I would recommend trying Avery or Hallmark instead of this product.

I wanted to stick my photos on these to make fold-over note cards. Unfortunately the paper is quite thin/light, maybe lighter than an index card. Not heavy card stock, more like heavy typing paper.

This is the lightest weight card stock I have ever used. It is so wimpy that I won''t ever buy this brand again.

These things are like very thick sheets of paper with matching envelopes. You can either run them through your printer or glue 4 by 6 photos on the front. They are way cheaper than buying cards at the store and they bring a lot of happiness to the receiver. People also appreciate such things when they are hand made.

I almost never write a review, but the forest of multi-functions is so thick and I am so impressed by my Brother DCP-7020 that I figure I ought to share my personal view of this tremendous small office/home-office machine.

I spent weeks researching and testing multi-functions, going back and forth among Brother, HP, Sharp, Xerox, Canon, and others. What a nightmare, sorting out and comparing all the rival features!

My own needs were straight-forward: truly excellent, professional-looking B&W laser printing and copying capability; reliable paper-path routing with few or no jams; able to handle periodic high volume and otherwise steady daily use; large paper tray capacity; reliable Auto Document Feeder; handy and roomy output tray; acceptable color as well as B&W scanning; and reasonably priced laser supplies that have a reasonably high volume capacity.

While I had no need for fax or networking, I might have taken either or both if the quality of the more important features I sought warranted the extra price. I also was hoping for a stand-alone copying capability, just to give me more flexibility in office machinery since I also have a Brother HL-5150DLT (which is a tremendous stand-alone printer, by the way!)

Several times I almost decided on the Sharp AL-1641CS or its equivalent at Canon and Xerox. My initial misgivings about the latest Brother multifunction machines came down to three things: I was concerned about a few reports of modest paper curling; I was nervous about the paper output slot which seemed at first glance kind of puny and inconveniently located at the inside front, rather than outside to the side, of the machine; and the Brother multi-function machines somehow didn''t look to me quite as robust or strong as some of their competitors, at least as they sat on the store shelf.

Repeated testing in multiple stores convinced me that the Brother DCP-7020 was the most likely to meet my needs at an initial price (and also a lower laser cartridge supplies price) so substantially less than the Sharp or equivalents that I decided to ''chance'' it, as I thought. It turned out far, far better than I had hoped.

This is a GREAT workhorse machine that takes up substantially less work space and yet turns out excellent laser printing and/or copying with sharp, professional-looking text. Reliable, smooth paper handling with no paper jams to speak of (other than one deliberately caused for testing, which was very easily cleared). Superior copying capability (stand-alone or attached to a computer.) And, though not my top priority, very good scanning as well, supported by excellent, intuitive software.

The earlier review and product descriptions you can read at Amazon.com are accurate. This machine is awesome; the best buy for the money you will find, unless you need faxing capability or color printing in your multi-function. As for my original misgivings, here''s my experience:

(1) Paper curling. Not a problem! The paper curling reports are true but greatly exaggerated. Very, very minor curling occurs (probably due to the extreme heat needed for any laser printing), but the paper flattens quickly as it cools and in a minute or so you won''t even know it had a slight curl as it emerged from the machine.

(2) Output tray. Not a problem! True, the output slot at the front of the machine looks a little inconvenient or insubstantial, but that turns out to be a mirage, probably because we are so accustomed to expecting to see a bulky exterior separate output tray. The Brother DCP-7020 output tray actually is an innovation. It works perfectly and can hold up to 100 pages, no problem. Lift the lid below the copier and you will see you have access to the entire output tray in all its glory.

(3) The wrong-est I was in my initial misgivings was in thinking that visually the Brother DCP-7020 looked somehow more fragile, or less robust, than the Sharp or similar competitors. It may look that way, but in reality it is every bit as much a workhorse machine as its equivalent competitors. The DCP-7020 is a strong, muscular, and reliable machine. Just a much smaller footprint and at half the price.

Although not my own top priority, I''ve also been very pleasantly surprised at how good the scanning function is. A couple of reviewers here and there on the web grumble about this, but I found the Brother DCP-7020 scanning function and quality does at least well with color photos as any other $200-$400 scanner I''ve used, and far better than most of them. The text recognition software is far superior to what most well known competing brands use. And the scanner control panel is very intuitive with good defaults and ample opportunity to easily customize. I''ve wound up putting my 1 year old $400 HP scanner in the attic.)

I unhesitatingly recommend the Brother DCP-7020. It is everything I wanted in a B&W laser printer/copier/scanner -and more! -at half the price of the competition.

Afterword about Brother support: For those concerned about tech support, there is good, and bad, and more good news - but REALLY good news if you pay attention to what I have to say here.

1. Good news: Brother''s toll-free number you can call in an emergency usually leads you to a live English-speaking person who isn''t in India or Sri-Lanka or some other Exploited-Labor-of-the-Month hell hole.

2. Bad news: Like the infamous Indian "tech support" people we all know and loath, you probably will get an American who is mostly clueless other than they''ve been trained to read the manuals. If you haven''t read the manual yourself, they can be a kind of "aural" manual and walk you through a few quick fixes. If you know the manual and those fixes haven''t worked, go to the next point below.

3. More good news: If you have time to e-mail or call Brother support and ask specifically for a truly knowledgeable tech person to contact you, in a day or at most two you will wind up being called by a REAL expert who will take the time to answer all of your questions patiently and in depth. These people know what they''re doing. They''re honest and knowledgeable. They are the way tech support used to be, once upon a time.

Overall, I''m amazed with this printer. I''ve only used it for a few weeks, but I''ve already printed a few hundred pages in various sized jobs, and installed it on multiple machines across platforms.

The Good:

-Very fast startup

-Very fast printing

-The printing is very detailed, even for a laser printer.

-Good OCR (optical character recognition) software. I tested this on small grey text from the back of a bank statement.

-Very little page curling

-Once connected to a computer, shared printing is a snap.

-The output area, embedded in the machine itself, is very sturdy

The Bad:

-No automatic duplexing

-Windows oriented documentation

-Somewhat loud

-The scanning is slow, although typical with my experience.

-Limited use if connected directly to a network router / airport express (i.e. no scanner)

-Not appropriate for high volume printing. The volume specifications are on the Brother website, but they don''t mention that the output area is only an inch or so tall.

More Details:

As a Macintosh user, I thought that the software was horrible. It installs a bunch of weird files and folders in your applications folder. I spent a ton of time trying to install the printer. However, if you follow the advice below it should only take you about 5-10 minutes.

As far as I can tell, the drivers from the Brother website work just as well in place of the software on the CD. The printer drivers and the scanner drivers are separate, and the scanner driver is labeled "TWAIN" driver. Unfortunately, the OCR software is only on the CD.

Photo scanning I had good luck with one photo, and bad luck with the other. I suspect that you could tune the settings better if you knew what you were doing, since there are many options.

The documentation is totally wrong in places, even in the short "quick setup" guide. I called tech support and got through to a person quickly. They were somewhat brief and surly, but they were US based (if that''s important to you).

FYI: The Brother website is useful for research. It''s accurate and detailed, and good for side-by-side comparisons. Unfortunately, limit of only comparing four printers at a time forced me to copy the results to Excel.

I wrote this detailed, independent review because I had a hard time believing the other reviews when I was making my decision (especially since the some reviewers hadn''t posted many other reviews). I figured that high quality laser performance was impossible at this price, but I have to confess the good reviews are highly accurate.

EDIT: It''s been more than years now, and I am still totally happy with this machine. Works perfectly for my needs.

I noticed a negative review by Paul Robinson. His review is very well written and accurate, but the issues he raises just didn''t matter to me. For example book photocopying is good enough for my needs (and I won''t pay for Kinkos). I''m sure there are better all-in-one laser printers, but I couldn''t find one two years ago for about $200, and I''m glad I don''t have to look again.

One more thing, if you''re sharing through a mac, download Bonjour printer wizard for windows, and your windows machine will be able to easily print to the mac when it''s shared and turned on.

I agree with the review above by "On The Level". My wife has copied school papers on this machine continuously since we got it. It appears to be tough as nails.

We bought two full-sized toner cartridges in addition to the starter cartridge. Each of them reported low toner and stopped copying with about half the toner still left! For a while, I switched cartridges to fool the machine, but even that did not work. The ink cartridge has two small circular windows in the sides. The machine shines a light through the cartridge to see how much toner is left. The holes are not at the bottom of the cartridge! The light can get through when lots of toner is left.

I put a piece of black tape over the hole in side of the carrier for the cartridge. This keeps the sensor light from entering the cartridge, and makes the machine think there is plenty of toner. Works like a charm. With this fix, I am very happy with the machine.

This copier has worked well for me.

Advantages:

1. Space saving design

2. Fast Printing

3. good scanner

4. Easy to use

5. Really like the automatic feeder!

6. Good value

Disadvantages

1. Some paper curling

2. Not compatible with some programs (Office Mate Optometry program)

Overall, VERY pleased.

I''ve only had the machine for a few weeks and haven''t used its scanner yet, but it''s printing and photocopying are top-notch. They really figred out how to engineer the thing to take up the least amount of room possible. One caveat when manually feeding in paper (as you must do for labels, e.g.) be very careful about the margins. The device (plastic thingamabob) that''s supposed to help you put the paper in straight and in the right place moves very easily (cheaply made). But if you pay attention (I didn''t until it was too late), it''s controllable. I think for the price it''s unbeatable (once again for actual printing and photocopying it''s perfect).

HP Officejet Pro L7680 Color All-in-One Printer Save 18% off

HP Officejet Pro L7680 Color All-in-One Printer
  • Robust, professional-grade all-in-one printer, fax, scanner, and copier
  • High-quality scans at 2,400 dpi resolution
  • Prints up to 35 pages per minute
  • Windows and Mac compatible; built-in network card
  • 1-Year limited manufacturer''s warranty

I''ve had the HP L7680 for slightly over three months. I''ve been a pretty heavy user, having printed (according to the self-test page) almost 4000 pages during that time. Unlike some of the others mentioned here, my unit has been completely reliable.

Print Quality Printing is very sharp and closely approaches laser quality...it''s certainly above the threshold for business correspondence and presentations. The color output is solid, with almost no visible banding. I have not used it to print many photos, but those that I have have been also acceptable, given the constraints of a four color ink system. If photography printing is your primary usage, you should buy a printer with more ink colors.

Ink consumption Over the span of 4000 pages, I went through the initial set of ink cartridges and am now on the third black cartridge...the second cartridge was a standard capacity one, while the third is the XL version. It''s still 2/3 full. A second set of color cartridges were also the standard capacity versions. They''re still 3/4 full. When they go empty, they''ll also be replaced with the XL versions. Most of my printing is obviously black with a minor amount of spot color.

Faxing It works. Faxes seem to get there.

Copying The internal memory is inadequate to allow more than 5-6 pages of a document to be scanned and stored for collated printing. This flaw was obviously anticipated by the printer''s firmware designers...the page

that causes the memory to overflow is returned to the scanning input tray so it can be scanned in the next five page batch. Unfortunately this flaw requires manual intervention...you have to remove the five printed pages from the output tray, set them aside and then place them on top of the next batch out. This is an absolute pain...The leader of the copier design team should be required to make fifteen copies of Tolstoy''s War and Peace as atonement.

Scanning The HP software works, but is awkward. I have yet to discover where the defaults are set...and the preset ones aren''t optimal for my office. I''d like to be able to set it to scan an 8x11.5 letter size by default, rather than have the software guess the paper size based upon the image. It''s NEVER guessed correctly. And, after scanning something into Adobe Acrobat, I need to click on "cancel" three more times before the image is finally transferred...it''s like a Japanese monster movie...The Software That Wouldn''t Die. There''s other annoyances. The bottom line, though, is that it works. It''s just doesn''t work nicely.

So...the copying and scanning issues dropped this printer from a strong five stars down to three. It prints great and if there was a socket where I could add in more memory, the copying problem would go away. But there isn''t. And while the scanning stuff is just annoying, the copying problem is a real time-waster.

Update: Since I''ve had the printer for a year and a half, I thought I''d add in a quick update and note that it''s still going strong. I''ve gone through 500cc of black ink, 50-60cc of cyan and yellow, and 36cc of magenta. There has been some drift in the alignment, resulting in some slight banding while printing, but I suspect that that could be calibrated out. The only major problem has been wear in the automatic page feed mechanism in the document feeder, which causes misfeeds while faxing or copying. Cleaning the rollers and pads helped, but they should be replaced. The purchase of a high speed scanner (Fujitsu ScanSnap S510 Sheet-fed Scanner) has pretty much eliminated my use of the automatic document feeder, otherwise this problem would be a serious hassle.

Update 6/20/11 The price of ink cartridges for this printer has climbed to insane heights. While it used to be fairly economical to use, it''s now too expensive to keep. Although it bothers me to scrap something that''s still printing beautifully, out it goes...

We set up the printer carefully and it seemed fine at first. A few days later, we tried printing, and the pages came out stained with ink. Opening up the printer revealed large black ink puddles in the area underneath where the print heads move. There was obviously an internal ink leak.

I''ve used many HP printers in the past, both at home and at work, so I was optimistic that HP would be helpful and efficient in fixing the problem. Little did I know, the frustrations were only beginning.

The HP representative spoke minimal English and insisted on having me do all kinds of silly things to try to "fix the problem". Nothing he suggested could possibly have cleaned up the ink leak, but I humored him. For more than two hours. By now, the moderate ink leak had turned into a giant horrible mess, with black ink spilling over the desk under the printer. The printer was now reporting that the black ink cartridge was empty -i.e., the entire contents of the cartridge had leaked out.

To be clear, this was not a case of a bad support agent. The guy was obviously working from a series of scripts whose sole objective was to prevent them from fixing an obvoiusly defective product. From a "bean-counter" perspective, this probably saves HP a few dollars, but it''s an incredible waste of time for customers. And it resulted in ink spilling everywhere. (Shouldn''t HP know that, if a customer calls with an ink leak, you don''t tell them to do things that will cause more ink to leak out?)

Meanwhile, the agent was still refusing to fix the printer and was insisting that I needed to get a new ink cartridge. Of course, adding more ink would just have caused more ink to leak out. (Also, the ink leak was on the right side of the printer and the cartridges on the left, so this could not conceivably have fixed the problem.) He was steadfastly refusing to replace the printer.

Finally, I told the agent that I was going to post a description of what happened to Amazon, and he should tell this to his manager. A long time elapsed. Finally, he came back and said they would replace the printer after all.

Another hour elapsed of trying to get the agent to enter the credit card information correctly. (HP neededs "collateral" before they''ll honor their warranty obligations, and the combination of a balky credit card approval system and an agent with awful typing and English skills meant the process took forever.)

In summary:

-HP product quality is not what it used to be.

-HP support is the worst I''ve ever experienced ever.

-HP will refuse to honor its warranty obligations unless you threaten to post your experiences.

I''ve had this machine for about 5 days and so far so good. I had trouble installing it on one of my desktop computers and made the mistake of calling HP. Tech support answered right away, but the lady who was trying to help me didn''t understand english very well and I had touble understanding her because of a thick accent. She suggested making some changes to my startup file and if I had followed her instructions, I don''t think my computer would have re-booted.

Instead, I tried installing it on my laptop and it installed quite easily. I then installed it on another laptop and a different desktop and it is working fine on all machines. The printer is plugged into my router and I''ve had no trouble accessing it from the wired desktop, or wirelessly on the laptops through my wireless access point.

I am not a technical expert, but to me the print quality looks very good. The printer is very fast. I purposely handled one of the dried printouts with damp hands, and the ink did not smear.

I have not had a chance to set up the fax yet so I can''t comment on that. My only complaint is the amount of software that HP installs. I might uninstall it and then re-install it with the "customize" option. Right now Zone Alarm is constantly reporting attempts by the software to access the internet, even if I''m not doing anything with the printer. I don''t know why the price is showing up on Amazon at $414. I''ve seen this everywhere for $399; and Staples has a $50 off coupon too.

UPDATE 3/18/07

I used the fax wizard and set up the fax machine quickly, with no problems. The printer is faster than I expected. In draft mode, the quality is very good, and the L7680 is faster than my laser printer.

Scanning is problem free. I like the having the option of scanning directly to a portable USB device. I''m hoping it has a "preview mode" for scanning. I haven''t been able to find it yet.

Want HP Officejet Pro L7680 Color All-in-One Printer Discount?

Let me start by saying that I own an HP computer that I''m very happy with, and I have owned several HP printers in the past that have been reliable long term performers (the last being an Officejet G85). This printer is a piece of junk. With the first L7680 I had to jump through many hoops dealing with HP support (not very helpful and they wanted to charge me to get it to work out of the box!). Finally, I had to download an update to my BIOS so that I could turn on my HP computer with the L7680 turned on. Also, had an issue with color printing (didn''t print red) so the support told me to take out the cartridge and shake it. This worked temporarily. Fast forward a week and only blue prints for a while, and then nothing worked colorwise and they told me I needed new printheads. I took it back to the store and got another L7680. This one wouldn''t load paper to print without jamming.

Went back and got an older and cheaper model (that they are phasing out) Officejet 7310 (it feels more substantial and well put together than the newer model) and am so far happy with it (my fingers are crossed). This new Vivera print ink system (3 separate color cartridges) is getting a lot of hype, but if my experience is representative, they need to go back to the old more reliable single Tricolor cartridge setup. Save yourself stress and money and don''t buy this printer until they get their design and/or manufacturing issues sorted out.

I just purchased this printer as a replacement for a 5 year old HP ink jet that died. I use this printer in my home networked between a half a dozen computers, including a Mac notebook, a vista desktop, and a couple XP machines. Installation was a breeze in all operating systems although full Vista software support is still pending.

I originally intended to buy a laser because of the lower cost per print, and the generally higher black print quality. However after reading about these new HP ink jet printers I opted for this one. It''s as cheap per print or cheaper than laser, generally has better color printing than laser (as do most ink jets) and has acceptable black text printing (If I was printing professional documents for a business it would not do nor would any ink jet but for my home is fine)and it is as fast or faster than a laster to boot. This thing really cranks out the pages.

It is easy to set up as previously mentioned, prints dramatically faster than my previous HP ink jet, and supposedly should be cheaper to run than the older generation ink jets. So don''t write of ink jet printers just yet, for the home I could not find a comparable all-in-one laser color printer for anything near this price, and they were noisy and unreliable and generally the size of a small car.

In my opinion, office or all black text printing=laser.

Home all-in-ones=these new ink jets.

I give it 4 stars because of the lack of a fully featured Vista driver (come on HP, how long has the vista beta been in your hands, and fully released for 2 months now, and you are still shipping product without a full vista driver???? Someone should get FIRED for this gross incompetence!) Otherwise very happy.

HP Envy 114 E-all-in-one Printer - D411C
  • Stylish innovation with a premium print experience
  • Complete versatility and photo printing in one
  • On-the-go printing and Web-connected convenience
  • Outstanding paper savings, easy energy savings

After 4 years, my photosmart 4200 decided it no longer wanted to accept its cartridges, I decided to simply buy a new printer.

The envy simply stands apart from most printers as it simply feels more solidly well built, it''s much heavier than most but probably more than it needs to be the thing IS heavy, perhaps that''s why it''s ultra quiet when printing.

The set up is easy if you plan to use a cable. If you plan to use it wirelessly beware, the set up may be a bit more cumbersome. My windows computer could not recognize/discover the printer''s IP address, it took me an hour with tech support to successfully set up.

THE REASON I TOOK IT BACK: If, like me, you use your printer for work related documents, beware THIS PRINTER CANNOT PRINT ON LEGAL SIZED PAPER. Like Apple, HP has sacrificed the practical for the aesthetic. I understand what the designers wanted to do, by hiding the tray and paper under the machine, hence making it a wonderful looking living room accessory but they could have built an opening on the tray, on the off chance one wanted to print legal-sized paper. Also, for a printer at this price point, having just two cartridge slots: black & color, will almost certainly make your ink replacement budget higher.

If you want printer that is not your typical noisy, bulky, cheaply built plastic fare this may be the one. However, if you run a home based business, or print different sized work documents from home, beware of its limitations.

After extensive research on printers,I decided to purchase this HP Envy 114.It had the options I wanted and got great reviews from people on Amazon and from other comments elsewhere.

I have three different operating systems in my home.Mac Lion, Mac Snow Leopard and Windows 7. All three OS loaded flawlessly. All OS loaded from a single CD that came with the printer.I was able to setup the Network through my home WiFi with absolutely no difficulty at all.The software did it all.All I needed to do was follow the instructions as the disc loaded the software on all three of my computers.

You can tilt the display menu to fit your preference. You can set the printer to stay in idle mode so it''s continually ready for print from any room or computer in the home.Or even set it to a timer to shut down. The paper loads from the front bottom of the printer. The tray easily pulls out when needed to be filled. The printed page spews from the front as well. The display menu and paper extension automatically recesses back inside the printer after you grab the print. It is so much more quieter than the Cannon I owed. The speed is very good also.I have not yet tried to use my iTouch through air print or the e-print feature as of yet,but I see no reason why it wouldn''t be as flawless just the same.

Before you load the software on your computer,be sure to load the paper, ink and plug in the printer and follow the instructions from the printer''s menu first, then proceed to load the software in your computer(s)

The instruction has a web site address that offers 20 free faxes a month. So if needed, you can fax the odd time without cost to you through the web without using a phone line.

I will gladly update in perhaps about 6 months time to review the durability.

Take care.

I already have one of these and we have used it for about 6 months and loved it so much, I just bought another. It takes up very little space and does what we need it to do. It is not a really high volume printer, so if you want one of those, this is not the right one for you. I wanted a wireless printer that I could print from for any of our devices: ipads, macbook pros, imacs, airbooks. And this does it without any problems. It does require attention to detail when setting this up, so try not to take any shortcuts. All in all, HP did this printer right!

This printer is not for you if you plan to use it a lot. Access to paper is not super convenient.

HOWEVER, if you are interested in a sleek, sharp, quiet inkjet printer that is ePrint and iPad AirPrint compatible, then this is the one to get. It is heavy, it is quiet, it moves all by itself and just amazing to watch as you print something from the iPad. Then, it closes the door by itself. My family was just in awe.

I wanted to love this printer. It has got to be the most beautiful printer ever. The fact that you cannot tell it is a printer and that there is no paper hanging out to give it away was a selling feature to me. However, this printer is truly form over function.

PROS:

Beautiful

Whisper Silent

Decent black-ink printing speed

Ridiculously easy set up

Smaller footprint

Rarely feeds papers crooked

Large touch screen with decent performance

CONS:

Will not allow custom paper sizes

Limited print options (cannot fine-tune print quality, about of ink used)

Jams on heavier paper

Slow color print speed

Washes out colors

The worst con has got to be that after just a few dozen prints, the backs of my papers became smeared. I don''t know if it''s because I was using heavier/thicker paper, but it was annoying.

I wanted to love this printer, but I''m returning it today.

I have used this for three years on my outdoor stainless steel plant markers. Even in full sun and extreme winter conditions, it is as clear, unfaded, and un-yellowed as the day it was printed. The adhesion is also great and I am able to reposition soon after placement if need be. Pricey, but worth it!

Lexmark X7170 All-in-One Business Center with USB Cable (21H0281)

Lexmark X7170 All-in-One Business Center with USB Cable
  • Prints, scans, copies, and faxes in color
  • Lexmark Productivity Suite software
  • Up to 22 ppm black, 15ppm color
  • Up to 4,800 x 1,200 dpi print resolution
  • USB 2.0 interface, PC compatible

I own a Lexmark X5270 and love it. Unfortunately, it does not have a stand-a-lone fax capability, so I eagerly looked forward to getting the X7170. It prints a lot faster than the earlier model and has a document feeder, but it refuses to scan and comes with defective software (graphics programs couldn''t acquire an image). After 4 hrs., tech support was no help. The buttons on the machine didn''t work properly and even using the software on the computer was a hit or miss proposition. Do yourself a favor and look at another brand until Lexmark can get its act together.

I have no major complaints about this workhorse of a printer. In fact, when I had a problem with the USB cable that was included and contacted customer service, I was sent a replacement free of charge. It does a great copy of scanning, printing and faxing for everyday use. It even does an adequate job of printing photos as long as you exchange the color ink cartridge for a photo ink cartridge. I have a HP photo printer for my digital camera (which does an excellent job) but this one does in a pinch. This model has two ink cartridges: one black and one color, which helps save on replacement costs if you have a lot of document printing (as the single cartridge has to use of all of the colors to print out black text). The scanner bed lid has some heft to it and was not as flimsy as some of the other models. My only complaint is that it took a really long time (20 mins) for the software to load up. I haven''t had any operational problems and the life span of my cartridges are pretty good, especially compared to my old HP printer not to mention a lot cheaper for replacements. I really like the features of collating copies, auto feeder, easy enlargement and reduction, and especially the PicBridge connection easily located in the front. But the feature I love best is the easily loaded paper tray and the fact that I have yet to get a paper jam. I can highly recommend this Lexmark model to anyone who needs a 3-in-1 combination printer loaded with extras.

I bought this printer for home use. I did not require a work horse just something versatile and functional. This printer is good enough in all phases of operation to suit my needs. Text and graphics are good and print speed is adequate. I have not encountered any operational problems whatsoever. There are two cons: 1. The software does take awhile to install but functions fine. 2. I have a home network setup and the software won''t let you control some funtions such as scanning from the pc. Overall I am happy with my purchase.

This printer is a waste! It looks good but the quality is horrible. It''s loud and slow, especially the fax. Lexmark printers are poorly manufactured. After trying to get my last one repaired I found out from a Lexmark customer service rep that most printers don''t last much more than 12 months. And instead of repairing them they just replace the printer. That should give you an idea of the quality. If you buy this make sure you get the 3 year warranty because you''ll need it!

Prints quickly, makes good copies and doesn''t take up too much space. It''s great to have only one machine sitting here instead of four. My only complaint is that the ink cartridges don''t last very long. We''re already on the third one and have only had the machine a few weeks.

I have a C7280 Photosmart printer and it utilizes 6 of these cartridges. While the print quality is incredible so is the price. I wish the cartridges were bigger and less expensive. It seems like an extraordinary waste of resources to pack such a tiny amount of ink into this package. It seems quite obvious that HP cares more about ridiculous profits than the environment.

Buyers BEWARE!! Hopefully you will read these reviews or pick up on the product description before you make the mistake of ordering this item the sale is NOT for an entire set of cartridges as the picture would imply, but for a SINGLE CYAN INK CARTRIDGE.

The item itself is fine a genuine HP 02 ink cartridge but you can buy the same thing for half the price almost anywhere else.

(Updated Aug. 07) The seller has corrected the photo so it shows only the cartridge -when I wrote this review, they showed a whole set. But to keep them honest, and for the record, here is my original review:

THIS PRODUCT PHOTO FALSELY IMPLIES THAT YOU WILL GET A FULL SET OF HP 02 INK CARTRIDGES. THE DESCRIPTION IS FOR ONE ONLY. THE PHOTO IS MISLEADING IF NOT DOWNRIGHT DECEPTIVE. DO NOT BE FOOLED!

Now that''s out of the way, I highly recommend the HP 02 color (and black) series inkjet cartridges. Unlike competitors designs, the print-head is built-in, so you get a new one every time you change the cartridge. Also, although the cartridges hold less than half the 13ml of ink you get with the new Canon "8" series, the ink used to clean is actually recycled back into the cartridge, so there is less waste.

Many reviews point for 40 prints and less..yes I confess that I was printing 40 or less if I use premium plus papers but not any more.

I bought 16 cartridge since I bought my HP A618 but the last cartridge printed 140 and still I can print photos (I got the warning of low ink in 100)

what I did is changed the setting in the HP Photosmart Essential 3.0 the software to use it to print your photos. these are the changes:

1After you click at the Simple Print, make sure you choose the correct size not bigger or Full Page. (for me usually 15x10)

2choose Printer Settings at the top right then confirm your paper size (if you use paper with tab, select it)

3click at the Advanced printer Settings. then select your paper type (advanced or premium photo papers). select print quality, Best. I use the (best) printer quality because I didn''t notice any difference while using Maximum dpi and I think Maximum dpi only good when you print 5x7 but trust me, don''t ever use it. stick to (best). it consumes less ink than maximum and the output is amazing.

4Click at the (Features Tab) at the top left. then at the bottom there is a very bad technology which is (photo fix), always put it OFF. this feature makes your ink finish earlier. Don''t use it ever.

before I use the new settings, I decided to buy Canon PIXMA mini320 but it was out of stock so I bought 2 cartridges to print 70 photos. but the first cartridge still usable.

soon I''ll use the second cartridge and I''ll try to update my review.

for now, use the settings above and I hope you get more printed photos of a single cartridge.

Update 13-6-2008:

now I have used another 2 inks of this..one has printed 48 photos and the second printed 81 photos and still in use.

I got a tip from hp life chat support. they told me to buy the longest expiry date ink which means the ink expire date will last 1 year or 2. I bought an ink that will expire at aug-2009 which I''m still using it until now and another june-2008 which only printed 48.

Paper for 110 ink:

don''t ever use premium or premium plus HP papers. they will not dry as long as you live or even water-proof papers. they will consume more ink too. you have 2 other options. Canon paper plus glossy or high-glossy and HP advanced glossy. both are incredible. I got stunning photos when I used them and longer life ink.

Photo quality settings:

if you edit your photos in the PC, don''t forget to set the resolution of the photo at 600dpi or 300dpi. to know more about the resolution search the net for (PPI & DPI). once you understand them you will know that you didn''t ever get a perfect photo. now when I compare the best photo before this method and after, I realized that I was a stupid who wasted money on papers like premium and lost quality of 400 photos I printed by not setting the resolution of the photo which is the same as the printer.

If you still interested in buying this ink, follow these steps above specially the expiry date of the ink and using HP advanced or canon plus paper. and before you buy new printer like Canon, try doing my way and buy oe last ink before spending money on new printer.

one last thing. don''t print photos from sd card. use a software like adobe lightroom to set the exposure, light, the black level, remove noisea and colors.

goodluck.

I love the convenience of my photo printer. The HP110 ink cartridge produces beautiful prints that look like professional quality. However, the cartridge really doesn''t last very long. I print in 5x7 and usually run out of ink before I print 20 photographs. At this rate I figure each print costs $1.10 (with photo paper included.) With my film camera I can have an entire roll of 24 5x7 prints developed at BJs Wholesale club for less than $5. Using the printer and cartidge at home may be convenient, but it''s not very cost effective. I would have given the product 5*s if I was able to print more photos/cartridge.

This is a nice product and it does create excellent quality prints but unless you print on the lowest quality you don''t get many prints out of this cartridge. I have an HP A616 Photo Printer and get about 24 4x6 pictures per cartridge on the highest print quality setting, when you factor in the cost of paper that is over a dollar a print which is much too high to pay for normal printing. Home photo printers are good if you need to print a picture on the fly but not for average photo printing needs.

Bought this ink for my Photosmart, I''m getting the best pictures ever with bright and sharp colors. Same or even better than what you get from a photo shop. Great product

Save 8% off

First of all to the reviewer who noted that you''re paying roughly $20 for 5 mL of ink this is NOT the ink you use in your everday school report, resume, and web printing. This is PHOTO INK and as such is a speciality item with a higher price tag.

Secondly, this ink provides amazing quality and clarity in my HP Photosmart A612 which is a cousin to the HP Photosmart A 610 (I believe the A612 was only sold through QVC but I could be mistaken). Anyhoooo, the picture quality is fantastic on par if not better than what the prints I receive from the one hour printing service at the drugstore or Target.

Since I set up my printer yesterday I''ve printing like a fiend and so far have only used a tiny bit of ink.

Great ink and a great value!

Brother HL-4040cdn Color Laser Printer with Duplex and Networking

Brother HL-4040cdn Color Laser Printer with Duplex and Networking
  • Up to 21ppm color and monochrome printing
  • Built-in duplex printing
  • Up to 2400 x 600 dpi resolution
  • Print directly from a USB flash memory drive or PictBridge-enabled camera
  • High capacity replacement toner cartridges

This printer will tell you when you are out of toners and need new ones. And when you are out with just one of the color toner, this printer will not allow you to print anything until you replace it with the new toner.

So here is how to override these problem, and you decide when the toner needs to be changed... and not the printer.

1. Slide out the toner trays and put a piece of black electrical tape over the sensors on each color toner. This will make the print think that it has full toner.

2. If you already see "Replace Toner" messages, just RESET it by opening the front COVER and pressing CANCEL and REPRINT together. Scroll up and down to reset desired toner.

3. If you think you have more life and juice left on its drum and laser parts, just reset it and forget it! Open the COVER, and hold down GO and hit UP (+) button. Scroll through the menu to select and reset!!!!

After the "replace toner" message, I reset the counter, and I have printed over 2000 more pages on a same cartridge. But be aware! You will start to see some "sprinkles of toners" on your pages as they are way over used.

I researched and found that cartridges for this machine are a lot cheaper than those for HP''s and the toner that comes with the printer has a page yield of 1500 color and 2500 b&w. The Hp''s came with toner that had only 750 page yield then you had to pay approx $140 for the toner cartridges for replacement when with this one you can purchase toner cartridges for right around $70 which is half the price with more page yield. So far I have printed 450 pages on the starter cartridges and the toner amount has not lowered and the print quality is excellent!

I purchased the Brother HL-4040CDN in June 09, after reading all the reviews I could find. Some people mentioned a problem printing envelopes but I thought that was just a random problem;but soon found that every envelope I printed was creased and wrinkled. I tried every Printer Properties option envelope type, paper type, thicker paper, etc. I researched all the Brother website troubleshooting help for printer, paper feeding and envelope issues, and tried it all. Nothing worked. Then, I went to Solution Center, FAQs: "envelopes wrinkle and crease" I found this one thing that helped tremendously. Very insignificantly listed as the last option: Open the back door of the printer and move the Envelope levers down, these are two grey levers next to the green levers on the fuser unit. Make sure to leave the grey levers down for envelope printing only. When done printing envelopes return the grey lever to the original position or UP position for use with regular paper.

It is very inconvenient to open the back door and move the grey levers every time I need to print an envelope, so I have found that leaving the grey levers down has not caused a problem printing on paper.

Hope this helps someone. It sure helped me, and would have saved me lots of time and envelopes.

first, everybody else is right: great solid construction, prints fast after initial warm up, toner cartridge price is reasonable. The initial cartridges that come with it seem to be lasting OK. Price is right.

I''m just going to list some downsides here:

1)plan are doing an setup of about a half hour to 45 minutes, it involves a lot of unpacking, inserting components, and removing shipping pins and installing software. No big deal there.

2)the colors printed are not going to be exactly what you envisioned, a graphic of a nice red stop sign is going to more of a pastel, maybe even purplish, a green will be muddy, the only primary color that will be close is yellow. I know this is a product of CMYK printing, but keep this is mind if you''re doing brochures.

3)pages have a heavy curl to them after printing. Not really a problem with standard paper, but if you''re using card stock (like I use for door hangers), you have to go to the effort of trying to uncurl them before reinserting them back in the tray to print the other side, otherwise you''re looking at a paper jam. This wasn''t an issue with my older b/w laser, so I was totally surprised by this.

again: great printer, good price (although I bought it from amazon at $275 and now it''s at $359, not sure what happened there) just be aware of the issues I had

I needed a laser printer to create DVD album covers, which often includes graphics and high quality photos. Overall this was a great printer but it didn''t have the print quality I needed. It was easy to set up on my Mac and relatively quick to print something. My main problem with this printer was the print quality for pictures. I ended up taking the Brother 4040cdn back and getting a HP CP2025. The HP CP2025 isn''t as fast as the Brother 404cdn but the print quality blows it away.

Also, the Brother 4040cdn created pressed lines into my presentation paper from the rollers used to pull the paper through the printer, also something that I couldn''t accept. Regular printer paper seemed to be come through with no lines.

Epson Presentation Paper MATTE (S041067) Save 34% off

Epson Presentation Paper MATTE
  • Photo-quality paper
  • Matte finish, heavier weight, bright white paper
  • Legal size (8.5 by 14 inches)
  • Specially formulated for higher-resolution Epson printers (Stylus 600, 800, and 3000)
  • 100 sheets

This is listed as photo quality paper. It is not. It is a heavier grade of inkjet paper with a decent brightness rating, but it does not produce photo quality prints. Whether glossy or matte, as this item is listed, photo paper implies a certain level of color and resolution; the print I made as a test run has the "washed" appearance and lacks vibrance in the colors, typical of general use printer paper. It is a nice quality paper for printing more durable documents for presentations (as it states) but I needed photo paper. If you want good, photo quality prints: try the Inkpress brand of photo luster paper; it is much more expensive, but produces the results you would be looking for.

This is not Photo Paper. As a matter of fact on the package I got it says:

This is Presentation Paper not photo paper. I use it to make DVD case covers without having to worry that part of the image is cut off. Colors are good if you make sure you print on the bright white side. The paper is only slightly heavier than regular 20lb copy paper so I would not recommend for photos.

I always bought the cheap staples brand paper before, but seeing as this was pretty cheap I thought I''d go for it. It comes in a brown box with the reams well packaged. Some of the covers on the reams were damaged, but the paper inside was fine.

I have printed lots of things on it, and they look very good. The paper holds up even when you print double sided, in fact there is almost no color bleed through, as in you won''t see shadows of the color on the other side of the page.

When you get it, remember that this thing weighs about 60 pounds, I had lots of fun carrying it from my mail services building back home.

All in all, it was an excellent purchase, cheap and very high quality, and of course Amazon sent it very quickly via Prime!

Want Navigator Premium Copy/Laser/Inkjet Paper (NMP1124) Discount?

This is an excellent high-quality paper at a great price. HOWEVER when they ship it they just toss individual reams of paper into a bigger box. So during shipping the packages bounce around, and needless to say some of them split open. The big box was sturdy, but some amount of the paper was damaged (and the blue wrapper ink rubs off on the paper as well.) I could use 95% of the paper so I didn''t bother complaining or asking to ship it back. But depending on what happens during shipment, the damage could have been more extensive. What they ought to do is ship a CARTON of paper in its original box as shown in the product illustration, and then place that full carton inside the sturdy outer shipping box.

So it''s 5 stars for the paper and 1 star for the shipping, giving a 3 star rating.

This product is better then most of the paper you find in local retailers but judging from other reviews and personal experience, it is definitely a gamble if you are to receive a 100% box of usable paper! My carton arrived in shambles, and instead of the normal heavy duty plastic reinforcements to secure the box, it only had clear packaging tape! 8 out of 10 reams were damaged dented or dirty (blue stains from packaging or black from the dirt accumulated during shipping). The lid to my box was broken and one side of it was torn off. Buyer beware! Most of the products in this category is shipped in a unsafe manner. Something to consider when you buy paper products from Amazon :( .

I recently read a great comparison review of Hahnemuhle Fine Art Baryta 325 , Harman Gloss FB AI, and Ilford Galerie Gold Fibre Silk on the Luminous Landscape website. They gave glowing reviews of the Hahnemuhle and Ilford papers, so I decided to buy both and try it myself. Both of these papers are INCREDIBLE. Deep rich blacks, great tonal range, and almost no glossing or bronzing whatsoever. However, much to my surprise, I have to give the edge to the Ilford paper. I have always been a fan of Hahnemuhle products, and not a big fan of Ilford (except back in the film days when it was my favorite darkroom photopaper), but the Ilford clearly wins out. Both are incredible papers, but the Hahnemuhle has a little too much surface stipple for my liking whereas the Ilford is more subtle. The fact that the Ilford paper is considerably cheaper certainly doesn''t hurt, but even setting price aside I like the Ilford better. Very heavy 310 gm paper that is wonderful to work with (it must be run through the specialty media tray of an HP Pro B9180 printer). I highly recommend this paper. Best I have ever tried.

Ilford Galerie Gold is quite simply the best ink jet paper I''ve ever used. While at this price point I wouldn''t recommend it for family snapshots, for high end printing you owe it to yourself to at least give it a try.

As a graphic designer and photographer, I''ve used many paper brands over the years. Ilford has always impressed me with it high standard and quality. Not too long ago I started using HP 8-ink printers that rely on expensive Vivera pigment based inks rather than the older dye based inks. Until recently I had used HP''s own Advanced Glossy Photo paper and was happy with the results. But after trying the Gold series paper, I''m a convert. The difference isn''t night and day, but you can definitely see that prints made on the Ilford paper are superior. The special surface formulation provides the perfect base for the pigment inks. The surface is dry by the time is finishes spooling from the printer, and the bright neutral white really shows off both color and B&W to it''s best advantage.

If you want the highest quality pigment ink jet print possible, definitely consider using Ilford Galerie Gold.

With 24 hours, I had an updated driver set. Unistalled old drivers & loaded new system now runs perfectly. This is our 1st Samsung all-in-one. Based on my experience so far, I would definitely buy them again.

This unit replaced an HP 2840 that was giving me problems. I had always bought HP printers for home and my department. I will be buying Samsungs, or at least giving them preference, in the future (based on operation so far).

Update 5/30/11. I have been using and abusing this printer on a daily basis and like it more every day. It keeps chugging along. Have been getting good toner "mileage." Yes it is big, but it is roughly the size of other AIO color laser units we had before. It is quieter and faster. Scanning is fast and simple.

Update 6/22/11. I still love this unit. I have bought toner cartridges & image belt. Overall cost was less than what I used to pay for equivilant HP products. I am connected via USB (due to VPN use) and at the same time via my LAN no problems, works very well. I have the unit right next to my desk and can actually be printing while I am on the phone without a problem. My division will be buying more Samsung printing solutions (and no, I do not work for Samsung or any of it''s affiliates). Nice product & support.

Very happy so far. Excellent prints and color. Making two sided brochures was a snap!! Scared about prices for toner etc. but will cross that bridge when we get there. Otherwise, very happy with product.

Bought this as a home office printer due to its ability to duplex. I must say the color print quality is amazing compared to the color laser HPs that I have used in the past. That said, the software leaves a bit to be desired. I have no clue what the Smart Thru Office software is supposed to do but it doesn''t even scan. You have to use the Samsung Scan and Fax Manager to scan. It''s not clear in the manual but that''s the only way I could get it to scan. Plus Windows 7 doesn''t see is as a TWAIN device so you can use the basic Windows scanning software to scan. Not a huge issue but it was frustrating to figure this all out on my own. It is large and heavy but does a lot. We''ll see if it holds up mechanically. I would rate it between 3 to 4 stars but closer to four due to the outstanding quality.

We were looking for a ''kitchen sink'' fast multi-function laser color printer that does everything including duplex printing and networking support with excellent print quality. Also, we wanted the consumables (toner, paper) costs to be reasonable.

After looking around I stumbled on the samsung CL-620D which did all the things we wanted including great print quality except that it was not a multi-function printer. Good price too $299.

I was almost about to settle and grab an excellent fast color laser printer with duplex printing and (wired) networking for a great price. Just then some website showed similar printers and CLX-6220FX popped up for $399 with all the multi-function capabilities (including color scan and color fax).

When I figured that replacing the B&W cartridge on my current laser printer was going to be almost $89, use 24# paper all the time to avoid paper jam, keep the Canon Photo Printer around on the desk for color printing... It just felt lke the right thing to do was to merge these in to one printer. More looking around showed that the $399 price at Amazon (with free shipping using Amazon Prime) was a big big steal.

So, I grabbed it have been using it for several months. Very happy with the product. Was pleasently surprised to notice that the drivers (print & scan) installed smoothly. The USB connector at the front worked to scan straight to it.

We did get a ''reverse unit error'' which was not documented in the manual, google search came up with some one that''s having same problem, no solution found. After spending sometime with the samsung technican on the phone, they dispatched their on-site techician (under warranty) who needed to get few parts including the top paper guide, side PCB board and then finally replacing the printer base board at the back of the printer.

Overall very pretty satisfied.

I''ve had this printer for several months now and it''s worked out pretty well. The print quality is fine for most business uses and the speed is great after the first page. I mainly like the size of the toners and the included black toner is still mostly full but we do not print a great deal here. The color toners will probably take us more than 2 years to exhaust because we print mainly B&W.

Minor Issues: 1. The network address had to be reassigned to ''Static'' on the printer menu. The printer was reassigning itself different IP addresses and then our PCs could not find it. This may not be an issue on your setup and was easily resolved once the problem was discovered. 2. Occasionally on certain docs the font will bold (or change font) some of the words, and will do so consistently, but we have not found this to be a major issue. 3. The manual feed tray can be a bit finicky and will indicate a jam easily.

Overall we''re quite happy with the printer, just keep in mind it is quite large and heavy. About the size of a small commercial copier but hopefully this will bring with it some reliability. Personally I''m glad to see that Samsung allows you to install the drivers a la carte so your PCs do not have to be bogged down with bloatware that you probably won''t use. The included scanner software is simple and has all the features you need to scan multiple docs easily.

We are a 10 person law firm. The Canon works as advertised. So far we are 3 months in. Had a little problem configuring the "scan to a network location," but once set, it functions as we want it to. I have not compared print speeds, since we do not use it primarily for that purpose (we use local printers mostly), but having another networked duplex-capable machine with ok speed is helpful, and the ability to scan to our file server at decent speeds for the price (the next level up in speed is really about $1700 more) is great.

Do not buy this product. The toner gave out in less than a week. An HP, previously in that position took several months to run out with the same load. The mechanics of getting a print out are convoluted. You have to manipulate the front panel if you want labels to run through properly. Scanning to the network is a joke. The manual explicitly states that if you have more than 10 computers the unit won''t be able to negotiate that. The output is slow and lacks crispness. The arrangement of the front panel and the fit and function of the unit are poor. I am very dissapointed in this unit. Bad design, poor quality, crappy functionallity.

  • 48.90 Lbs(WxLxH) 19.70" x 17.25" x 21.30"

This HP Color LaserJet CM1017 is great. It is actually weighs less then my old Black and White Canon D780. What makes this printer great for me is the ability to copy and the ability to print color reliable. It''s a excellent printer and now I don''t have to worry about here are my thoughts so far.

Installation, dirt simple. Unpacked it, plugged it in to network, and turned it on. The LCD screen is easy to navagate and it prints out a nice sheet on the current network connection status. It quickly found my DHCP, I went to the IP and did some basic setup. Then popped in the CD, added a printer, pointed Windows XP to the CD''s driver folder and I was in business. Very easy. Setting up my Mac was also easy.

After using my PrintFixPro color calibration the prints were very nice. Mostly I plan on printing out Google directions and invoices but this is a great printer.

Over all everything about the printer is good, so it would take too long to list them. But there are a couple issues. People complain about the lack of Fax features, but I don''t miss that at all. Use eFax! It''s way better then a standard Fax machine.

So, the only issue I have, is that the Duplexing is "manual" which to mean''s it doesn''t have duplexing. This doesn''t matter too much to me but it''s pretty lame. The sibling HP printer all support duplexing, and I think this printer should too. Oh well. It does have software duplexing build into the driver which is sorta handy, but I think real duplexing would have been better.

Oh well... still it''s a great printer, and it''s great for mix environments like ours. Finding a good MFP for Macs and PC''s is hard.

First off Amazon''s description of this printer is wrong it does not fax. I wish it did; but it doesn''t. See HP site for more accurate description.

Ok, the main reason I bought this printer was because i was getting frustrated with my inkjets. For the last 9 years, it was always a roll of the dice if what i printed would come out ok or not. Now that the laser printers have come down in price (I was able to get this printer for under $600), I thought it might be worth it..

Although the real test will be a year from now, so far so good. The quality has been great. I have 4 computers at home, so the networking feature works wonderful for me. And I love the fact that I can stick my sony memory sticks directly into the printer and print without the PC. Speed is probably slower than average for a laser (compared to those that I''ve seen at work) but still ok when compared to my old inkjets. Really, the only issue i had with this printer was the price.. but if it lasts me the next few years with no hassle, then that would make up for the cost. Minor issues were the lack of a fax, and the size it is pretty big but that is to be expected with color lasers.

Overall I am quite pleased with the product..

Now, with that said, I can see how this printer isnt for everyone. I wont print a lot.. in fact i print very little.. so little that my inkjets would dry out due to lack of use. People with higher volume needs may not like the printer as the number of pages that the toners are stated to last for is 2000pagesnot sure if thats just the out-of-box toners-but i can imagine that not being much for a small office printer.

Also, its not a true photo quality printer. You can print photos with it.. and the quality is still pretty good..(good enough for me) but, if thats the main reason for your purchase, i would stick with a cheaper photo inkjet printer.

Anyway, hope this info helps.

Beware of HP CHEAP LASER PRINTERS. Specifically the CM1015 and 1017. HP laser printers are expiring the toner cartridges regardless of the actual toner used. I printed 8000 pages of pure Black and White with all color turned off in the driver. I had to replace $240 in color toner cartridges to use the printer even thought we printed NO color. Went to Cartridge world to have them opened, and sure enough they were completely full. If I would have know this, no way would I have purchased a CHEAP HP laser printer. I smell a class action in the making.

We purchased this printer to replace our Lexmark Laser and Canon Injet. The Lexmark toner lasts around 2000 pages and fades almost immediately with costs of $79 if you agree to send the old one back to Lexmark.

From the second we set this printer up we have been pleased with it. It is much lighter than similar printers and the footprint is much smaller than the 2800 series printers.

Installation was incredible easy in Vista (note you have to download the Vista software from HP which took abot 5 mins over broadband. The software required very little input and upon selecting network install, the software discovered the printer in under a minute.

Operation is seamless. I know a lot of people have complained about the noise from the 2800 series printers but the 1017 is quieter than our old Lexmark even when printing in color. This printer also comes with a ScanTo function where after set up on the computer via the HP Solution software, enables you to stand at the printer and scan directly to any location on the network that has been enabled to receive scans. Extremely easy to set up and will scan in multiple formats including PDF, JPG, PNG, TIFF...etc.

As for toner costs, we really haven''t noticed any difference in costs between toner costs on the 1017 verses any other printer except on the color modules. Unless you are always priting in color, you will want to change the default setting on your print driver to Grayscale to minimize any chance of wasting color toner for no reason.

The only complaints I have (minimal) are the lack of automatic duplex priting and the unavailability of a Scanner ADF for multiple pages. Other than that this is perhaps one of the better printers I have used from HP in years.

I bought this like 7 or 8 months ago and I could not be happier about it! its an awesome little color laser MFC:

even though HP stopped producing them, I see you can still get them on the internet for a very reasonable price!

interface for pc and mac is easy to use.

the printer itself is very easy to maintain.....

and the network port is definitely one of the most welcomed feature on this

I really dont have any complain about it!
