I''ve been using a smaller version of this Dahle personal trimmer for over a year, and my only problem with it was that the maximum paper size that could be cut was 9". Since most of the paper I work with is card stock that is either 8.5"x11" or 12"x12", I couldn''t always use my old cutter.

However, this Dahle model 507 cuts paper up to 12.5" long, so it is perfect for making greeting cards of all standard sizes.

The blade lasted a whole year, and was easy to replace, although rather expensive (the whole head needs to be replaced). I prefer a rotary cutter to a guillotine-type cutter for the type of papercrafting I do. If you need to cut large numbers of sheets at once, you might want to go to the guillotine-type cutter.

My only problem with my new Dahle model 507 is that there are no instructions on how to mount and use the three decorative heads that come with this cutter. I couldn''t find any instructions on Dahle''s internet site, either. I think I''m supposed to fit the two extra plastic strips that come with the product, down into the cutting groove when I use the decorative heads--at least this is the only way I could get them to cut, but it sure would have been nice to have instructions. The two extra plastic strips aren''t even labelled.

The listing by TCP Global Corp for the Dahle 12.5" Cut Personal Series does not come with the extra cutting heads as advertised. I ordered it twice and had to return it because the heads were not in the box.

When I saw the poor review because of wrong advertising I had to chime in to bump up the rating on the cutter itself. I have owned mine now for well over a year and it is my primary go-to cutter when I reach for one. The only time I need my larger ones is if I want to cut something wider than 6" since this is a narrow cutter. That is exactly what makes it so handy most times, but if you cut widths wider than 6" I recommend you go for a trimmer with a larger bed.

The cutting mechanism is self sharpening and slides securely on a metal rail. There is not way you can cut yourself with this trimmer. Cutting is equally precise if going up from the bottom or coming down from the top. Note: if you want to cut a window in your paper than this is not the cutter for it as the blade never lifts off.

As far as interchanging the cutting heads is concerned, it couldn''t be easier than pulling out the red tab at the top and out comes the rail. The cutting strips that come with the additional heads (I had to order mine separately, the machine does NOT come with them, please make a note of that) are easily inserted underneath the blade and don''t require special instructions, at least not for me, and I am no engineer, just a female crafter. They can be turned once marred by the scoring blade or other decorative blades, that is why there is no right or wrong way to insert them.

I love this cutter, it is easy to use and precise. It does not clamp the paper down securely, though, it only has a smudge guard. So too much paper in one pass and your paper on the bottom will shift. Not an issue with me, I don''t run stacks through this machine, I have my full-size machine for that.

Highly recommended for crafters and home office use.
