HP 920 Cyan Ink Cartridge in Retail Packaging CH634AN#140 Save 85% off

HP 920 Cyan Ink Cartridge in Retail Packaging CH634AN#140
  • Catalog Publishing Type - Inks & Toners-OEM
  • Color(s) - Cyan
  • Coverage Percent - 5.00 %
  • Device Types - Inkjet Printer
  • Global Product Type - Inks & Toners-Inkjet Cartridge

This stated clearly (with image to match!) "in Retail Packaging" which it absolutely was not. I have contacted the seller without any response. I am planning on reporting this. The ink cartridge did not come in the box but, had a shrink wrap on it that could easily have been created to look like one that would be in a retail packaging. Just the fact that the seller has made no attempt to return a reply to my questioning of the lack of the Retail Packaging is poor business enough to merit the lowest rating from me. I would be extremely cautious purchasing from this buyer.

This is an original HP Cyan cartridge and what can I say, HP ink is way to expensive.

One thing I don''t like about this printer and it''s ink..I am always buying more ink. I have paid so much in ink prices. When I buy a new printer I will definitely keep that in mind.

920 red does not last long enough so I purchased 920xl and that helps a little. Not sure it I like having to order these colors separately. They are okay for simple things but I make cards and they just do not last long enough. It gets expensive!

For many years I had been using the Avery 8879 Clean Edge Glossy Business Cards. For some reason Avery decided to discontinue that model and promote a number of models that did not work nearly as well (ragged edges). I suspect they were trying to move customers to the 8 cards/page products and away from the 10 cards/page 8879. I contacted Avery to complain about the quality of the new products and check on their 100% guarantee, but was given the runaround by them, asking for a bunch of personal information and promising to call me back at my home number. Way too much work for a simple return, so I went looking for alternatives.

There aren''t many good alternatives out there for a glossy true clean edge business card, so I was happy to find this one. The cost is a bit on the high side, but I gave it a try anyway. The glossy paper quality is quite good, although just a bit on the lightweight side. The cards separate nicely from the backing paper, but there''s a trick to doing that without bending the cards: place the sheet upside down on the desk and slowly peel the backing paper away from the cards, holding down the cards with one hand. That will fairly quickly separate the cards. Doing it the other way (peeling cards away from the sheet) will cause slightly bent cards, and is slower to boot. I print right to the edges on these cards with no problems, getting 25% more cards per sheet than I can with Avery''s inferior 8-up "print to the edge" glossy cards.

There was a small mixup with recieveing the product on time but that was quickly handled by Amazon Customer Service. TY Amazon!

As for the product itself, it exceeded my expectations and I will be ordering more of them in the very near future. The paper felt very much like canvas and the ink showed beautifully on the matte surface. I am very pleased with Epson''s product.

I was nervous about my first experience printing on canvas and thought that buying a whole roll might be too extravagent but this printed fantastic. At first I was wasting some of it but then checked my settings on my Epson R2000 and it has a paper saving option to check so that took care of that. I could have also used the bounding box and just moved the prints that are smaller than 19 inches closer to the edge of the print. I really cannot say how pleased I am with this product. I did use a sealing spray made for injet prints.

I am sold on this and ordering more.

Works perfectly on my inkjet bright and vibrant results at a very reasonable price.

In my experience it is more suited for artwork as opposed to photography as the texture adds a little something to the artwork but can detract from some photographs.

The prints on photo paper are fantastic and now I can do my own printing. I haven''t used the canvas paper as yet.

Great for canvas prints, it is cheaper then the precut, plus you can make any size you want. I have done 5X7 to 13X33, just have to plan ahead so you have time to let it relax to get the curl out from being on a roll

Avery has always made a good product, and this is no exception. The only caveat is that if you are expecting a heavy-weight, deluxe cardstock, this will not be what you want. It is a nice, medium-weight card for everyday useage.

Epson C40UX Inkjet Printer

Epson C40UX Inkjet Printer
  • 1,470 x 720 dpi resolution
  • Four-color quick-drying inks
  • Prints on letter, legal, matte or glossy photo paper, and a variety of other media
  • USB connection, PC and Mac compatible
  • Includes Epson Film Factory Lite software

Its lightweight, good looking, pretty fast, and prints great photos. Its USB connection is quite fast, its got a convenient paper input, paper output tray. The software supplied is great, especially for photos. Doesnt occupy too much of space. Simple to operate with just two buttons. I feel its pretty good for personal use in home or for students.

But it does make I think more amount of noise. This could have been better done with.

I have always liked Epson printers because they use a differnt technology than thermal inkjet printers, they give better resolution and ink dries quicker. the cartridges are also cheaper than HP. After all, in the long run, the cartridge cost matters much more than the initial cost of the printer.

On the whole, I feel its a winner with the 49.99 dollar price tag right now with the rebate. But yeah, as with most printers, it doesnt ship with a USB cable. But it includes both black and color ink cartridges.

Just purchased the Epson C40UX printer to replace a Lexmark that stopped working. I was on a budget and after doing some research decided to try the C40UX at only [price]! What a pleasant surprise! This machine prints flawlessly! Pros: nice size (not too big a machine); beautiful quality text and graphics; excellent low price! Cons: Very noisy; Black inktank is too small (will probably require many replacements if you do alot of printing); also, color cartridge is combined (separate ink tanks are more economical in my opinion).

Read Best Reviews of Epson C40UX Inkjet Printer Here

If you''re looking at "low-end" printers, the choices come down to Canon, HP and Epson. I currently have all 3, and the C40 is my favorite. The Canon simply isn''t made as rugged as the other two. The HP is the quietest, smoothest and most dependable printer due to its bottom-feed system but at a considerable cost in speed. The Epson is dependable enough, and when it misfeeds or jams, it''s no big deal to fix the problem. And the noise is a small trade-off, in my opinion, for both the Epson''s outstanding print quality and speed.

I suspect that some of the problems expressed by other owners are related to having the machine at its slowest setting and to the use of inferior "clone" cartridges. The reason these machines are so cheap is that the manufacturers make their profit in the sale of ink cartridges. The reason they sell so many of those costly ink cartridges, as many of us have discovered, is that many of the imitations not only perform poorly (sometimes not at all) but can gum up your printhead. Leaving a machine idle for an extended period of time will also lead to spotty quality. Still, I''ve always been able to restore the machine back to its original sharpness and consistency through several cleaning cycles using an Epson cartridge.

Want Epson C40UX Inkjet Printer Discount?

This is a good printer. It''s not expensive and it does the job just great. I needed quickly a printer to print several hundred pages and this one was a good choice. I finished a whole black cartridge for one day (about 200 pages for the first one and then close to 300 for subsequent ones), but I am very happy with final result good quality at reasonable price.

The printer is small, easy to use, software is OK a good choice

For fifty dollars , this is an excellent printer. It is a bit louder than other printers, but the print quality is outstanding for the price range, if you need a printer to print mainly text documents black and in color , this is the printer for you.

Rite in The Rain #6511 Duracopy Paper Save 13% off

Rite in The Rain #6511 Duracopy Paper - 8.5x11''I do underwater fish and coral reef surveys in the tropics. Our organization works with a lot of volunteer scuba divers, so we prepare fish ID sheets and data collection forms on DuraCopy 6511. We prepare a "PDF" file of the form on a flash drive and take it to the local copy center where they run the DURAcopy paper through their regular color laser printer. After a week or more of use buy scuba divers making multiple dives a day, the DURACopy sheets and the images on them look as they did when they came out of the copier. We use inexpensive plastic clipboards to hold the sheets. We write on them with standard pencil lead, or "waterproof" (space) pens. The sheets can be erased and re-used. We''ve been doing this for several years without a hitch. If this stuff disappeared from the market, we would have a problem.

This waterproof paper is actually a plastic so it is 100% waterproof and you can print on it with a laser printer which have waterproof toner. A warning though, this paper is twice as heavy as regular paper which is really noticeable if you have printed a lot. It is also tear proof. If you just need water resistent paper the standard rite-in-the-rain paper is a little cheaper and works very well too. I use this for printing quick reference ID guides for use in the Amazon (jungle not the online retailer).

Dahle 12.5" Cut Personal Series Standard Capacity Rolling Blade Rotary Trimmer Save 30% off

Dahle 12.5'' Cut Personal Series Standard Capacity Rolling Blade Rotary Trimmer with Four Interchangeable Cutting Blades.
  • Rotary blade cuts in either direction
  • Sturdy metal base with pre-printed grid lines.
  • Includes straight, perforated, wavy and deckle cut heads.
  • Perfect for Scrapbooking or where you need precise and straight cuts.
  • Manual straight cutter with 12-1/2" cutting length

I''ve been using a smaller version of this Dahle personal trimmer for over a year, and my only problem with it was that the maximum paper size that could be cut was 9". Since most of the paper I work with is card stock that is either 8.5"x11" or 12"x12", I couldn''t always use my old cutter.

However, this Dahle model 507 cuts paper up to 12.5" long, so it is perfect for making greeting cards of all standard sizes.

The blade lasted a whole year, and was easy to replace, although rather expensive (the whole head needs to be replaced). I prefer a rotary cutter to a guillotine-type cutter for the type of papercrafting I do. If you need to cut large numbers of sheets at once, you might want to go to the guillotine-type cutter.

My only problem with my new Dahle model 507 is that there are no instructions on how to mount and use the three decorative heads that come with this cutter. I couldn''t find any instructions on Dahle''s internet site, either. I think I''m supposed to fit the two extra plastic strips that come with the product, down into the cutting groove when I use the decorative heads--at least this is the only way I could get them to cut, but it sure would have been nice to have instructions. The two extra plastic strips aren''t even labelled.

When I saw the poor review because of wrong advertising I had to chime in to bump up the rating on the cutter itself. I have owned mine now for well over a year and it is my primary go-to cutter when I reach for one. The only time I need my larger ones is if I want to cut something wider than 6" since this is a narrow cutter. That is exactly what makes it so handy most times, but if you cut widths wider than 6" I recommend you go for a trimmer with a larger bed.

The cutting mechanism is self sharpening and slides securely on a metal rail. There is not way you can cut yourself with this trimmer. Cutting is equally precise if going up from the bottom or coming down from the top. Note: if you want to cut a window in your paper than this is not the cutter for it as the blade never lifts off.

As far as interchanging the cutting heads is concerned, it couldn''t be easier than pulling out the red tab at the top and out comes the rail. The cutting strips that come with the additional heads (I had to order mine separately, the machine does NOT come with them, please make a note of that) are easily inserted underneath the blade and don''t require special instructions, at least not for me, and I am no engineer, just a female crafter. They can be turned once marred by the scoring blade or other decorative blades, that is why there is no right or wrong way to insert them.

I love this cutter, it is easy to use and precise. It does not clamp the paper down securely, though, it only has a smudge guard. So too much paper in one pass and your paper on the bottom will shift. Not an issue with me, I don''t run stacks through this machine, I have my full-size machine for that.

Highly recommended for crafters and home office use.

Works better than I thought, very even cuts, easy to use. Great for photos, easy to slide paper into cutting edge.

Pros:

Effortless set up, even for WiFi

Excellent print and photographic quality

High quality scanning

Faster than older Canon inkjet printers

Slick interface/modern design

Buffed up Canon software

Front loading paper tray

Excellent customer support (see addendum)

Cons:

Memory card reader on WiFi works for Windows but not for Mac

Slow wireless ''upload'' from printer

Shiny exterior picks up fingerprints

Completely redesigned ink cartridges means that you are stuck with expensive, proprietary

ones, at least for the time being

No continuous document feed

Long install time for proprietary software

Canon software is much better, but still a little slow and clunky

No printer functions will work (including scanning) if there is a missing or malfunctioning ink cartridge

The PIXMA MG6120 is one of Cannon''s newest line of printers. It is long on features and really is an excellent, all around printer for home use. It was easy to set up using the supplied CD and worked without a hitch on WiFi immediately on set up. The text printing on normal paper is excellent and the photographic reproduction is nearly photo-lab comparable.

Note: I am using the printer on an Apple iMac with a 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM (for the truly savvy, this is a 17" MA590LL/A, late 2007 model). I am running OS X 10.6.4 on the Mac side and Windows 7 home edition on Bootcamp. The printer that I am comparing this model to, is my old Canon MX310[Canon Pixma MX310 Office All-in-One Inkjet Printer (2184B002)], bought from Amazon circa 2007.

WHAT''S IN THE BOX:

The printer is packaged with a quick start up guide, network trouble shooting guide, a starter pack of 6 ink cartridges, power cord, paper for print head alignment, and sample pack of 4 X 6 Canon Plus Glossy II photo paper. Extricating the printer from its box was par for the course, with the usual removal of protective wrapping and unsticking of orange tape.

The printer itself weighs in at 20 lbs, so it is somewhat more hefty than it looks and it is by no means petite at 18.6 x 14.5 x 6.9 inches. It sports a small view screen and innovative touch panel that functioned smoothly. It has a pleasing, modern design, and a glossy finish that really looks cool at first, but is a real magnet for fingerprints.

SET UP:

You hardly need a manual to tell you what to do, as the printer really tells you what to do itself once you turn it on. The carriage centers as you open the device and placing the print head in place is easy. The ink cartridges are color coded and fit in place easily. There is a thick, black cartridge that can only fit in one space, but the color cartridges are otherwise identical. They will fit into each other''s slots, but there is a guide on the print head that makes placement a no brainer. As each cartridge is equipped with its own microchip, my guess is that the printer would inform you of any errors in placement. Not wanting to mess up the color printing for the first runs, I stuck with the program and didn''t let the machine prime the ink tanks while placed in the wrong slots. Once closed, the machine quickly cleans the print heads and then prompts you to place the photographic paper in the back loading slot for print head alignment. A few minutes later, this is done. Plain paper can then be loaded in the front cassette or in the rear loading slot, and you''re off to the races.

WARNING!: A word about the ink tanks--these are a brand new style. This means that it will be some time before refurbished or third party cartridges are available for use. Although brand new Canon ink cartridges are likely to function the best, other options do significantly decrease the price per page and not everyone needs 100% full quality prints or an archival photo that will not fade in `300 years.'' You can get an idea of ink prices here: Canon PGI-225 BK/ CLI-226 C,M,Y 4 Pack Value Pack (4530B008); Canon CLI-226 Gray Ink Tank (4550B001). Note that at the time that I am writing this there is no value pack that covers all of the MG6120 inks together. Unlike other Canon photo printers you will need the PGI-225 black and FOUR CLI-226 cartridges (C,M,Y, and GRAY). At present prices, refilling the ink tanks twice would cost about as much as buying a brand new MG6120 at Amazon''s sale price. To my knowledge, no 3rd party refill kits or refurbished cartridges are available at this time.)

UPDATE 1/15/2011: Generic inks are now becoming available for the printer. But so far, caveat emptor. I purchased these 6 PKS GENERIC INK CANON PGI-225 CLI-226 Pixma iP4820 MG5220 at a bargain basement price but--as always--there''s a catch. The cartridges do NOT come with cartridge recognition chips--the printer WILL NOT RUN unless the chips are in place. The instructions tell you how to transfer the chips from your existing OEM cartridges to a plastic device called a ''chip extender.'' Once you understand how to do this it isn''t exactly rocket science but lets just say that there''s a learning curve here and only 1/6 cartridges were recognized by my printer. I will be contacting the company and trying to figure out where things went wrong and re-updated the review, but at this juncture I CANNOT recommend these cartridges. My guess is that either the chip extender isn''t lining the chip up correctly, I glued the chips on to the chip extender incorrectly, or I damaged the chip in the process of moving it. The cartridges themselves DO look like the real thing and appear to be compatible in all other ways. Unless you have experience with such things, I would avoid these. Canvassing the net, there now appear to be some vendors (ones certified by the BBB) that are producing compatible or refurbished cartridges (WITH chips). The only cartridge that doesn''t seem to be available this way so far is the grey cartridge, but I imagine that this will soon be available.

UPDATE 7/12/2011

FYI, there are now places where you can get non-OEM cartridges with working chips. Recently, I purchased these: LD © Canon PGI225 & CLI226 Compatible Set of 14 Ink Cartridges: 4 Pigment Black PGI225, 2 each of CLI226 B/C/M/Y/G and so far they are working well. This is by no means the only source for non-OEM cartridges, but it''s right here on Amazon. There are also other sources for these cartridges that can be found on the web. These come with working chips that monitor the ink levels and worked flawlessly with the printer.

The compatible cartriges give you twice as many cartridges as the Canon OEM for less than half the price (Compare this to Canon PGI-225 BK/ CLI-226 C,M,Y 4 Pack Value Pack (4530B008) in Retail Packaging and add in the Gray Canon CLI-226 Gray Ink Tank (4550B001)). Remember, generic cartridges do not have the same guarantee that they will work with a printer and often do not have the same quality control as OEMs. Moreover, the ink inside the cartridges may not be of the same quality.

If you decide to go the way of non-OEM cartridges, make sure that you use a reputable vendor. Also, as noted above, I would recommend avoiding cartridges that do not come with chips. They may be somewhat cheaper in the short run, but having the chips already installed on the cartridge makes life easier in the long run.

THE SOFTWARE:

Loading the software was similarly easy on both OS X or Windows. The supplied CD easily installs the software with a few simple prompts. In both cases, however, the basic software can take up to 10 minutes to load. On Windows, the printer is picked up and is automatically added with a click. On the Mac side, the software is similarly easy to install, but you have to supply the WiFi network password to add the printer.

The present Canon software is definitely an upgrade from the previous generation. The main screen gives you options for photo printing, calender printing, layout printing, album printing, and movie printing (this feature only works with Canon cameras). The photo print option is the most useful and allows you to print single photographs or a number of photographs on a single sheet of paper. Scanner options include autoscan, OCR (optical character recognition), attaching scans to emails, and opening of saved images. There are also options for web services, help/settings, and product information.

None of the software really represents a real photo editor, and, truthfully, most people have their favorites anyway. Nevertheless, there are some basic photo editing features such as red eye reduction, face sharpening, face smoothing, blemish correction, and brightness/contrast/sharpness/blur controls. But these are painfully slow on both the Mac and in Windows. Unless you are doing something very simple, you''ll want to use your photo editor of choice.

The scanner interface is much improved from previous generations. In particular, the auto scan feature quickly detects what you are scanning and accurately recognizes if there are different pictures, and saves them as multiple files . Manual controls are similarly easy to use. The OCR is much improved from their 2007 vintage, and is reasonably accurate across different typefaces.

PRINTING TEXT:

Printing text is both faster and better than in the previous model. When magnified, it is clear that the text from this printer is sharper and cleaner than the MX310. That being said, when viewed under normal conditions at zero magnification, I''d be hard pressed to tell the difference. Both are certainly acceptable. On the bright side, the MG6120 is almost twice as fast.

PRINTING PICTURES:

I was quite impressed by the MG6120''s photo quality. Although this is an all-in-one, it has the capability for near photo-lab quality. With a maximum 9600 x 2400 DPI, there is no visible pixillation to the naked eye when printing a high resolution photo. The colors are true and the blacks are consistently deep black without that line by line variation that is all too common in inkjet printers. The upload to the printer over WiFi did cause a short lag, but this was more than acceptable, even at high resolution. There is a definite advantage in having six, separate tanks of ink rather than four, in terms of producing true colors. I did not show a sample comparing the MG6120 with the MX310 as I ran out of Canon color cartridges for the MX310 and I didn''t think that using a refurbished cartridge would be a fair comparison. However, I would never have thought of using the MX310 to print pictures for more than casual use. Even when new, the MX310 had too high a level of artifact to produce photo album quality pictures. The MG6120 may not be a professional level photo printer, but it rivals many online consumer photo print services.

The biggest surprise was the ability of the MG6120 to produce quality black and white photographs. Given the true, deep blacks and the addition of that extra gray tank of ink, the B&W photos have an incredible richness that comes through. I have printed a sample from both printers and it is clear that the MG6120 trumps the MX310 in terms of the level of detail of the picture, the contrast between dark blacks and whites, and the subtle shades of gray in between.

[Note: I uploaded images of Lucy the Elephant to show differences between black and white print quality. Please realize a few important things: 1) I printed both photos on the supplied, 4x6, Cannon Glossy II paper on each printer; 2) I then scanned them using the MG6120; 3)To transfer the photos to Amazon, the TIFF file had to be converted to a JPEG; 4) Amazon seems to shrink the pictures down to size after upload anyway. Suffice it to say you lose a lot of resolution in the process, which actually makes the pretty awful print from the MX310 look acceptable. The MG6120 produces a dark black, without the usual uneven, streakiness you see with ink jet printers. The balance of the grays was true to the original photo. The print was nice enough to frame. In contrast the MX310 produced uneven blacks and the mid-tones were dull and washed out. Visible streaking on the photo meant made it unacceptable for even casual use.]

SCANS/COPYING:

All the pictures for this review were scanned on the printer. I believe that it produces a high quality scan (the resolution is purported to be 4800 x 4800). All the images for this review were scanned using the machine. Scanning times are quick and the software makes scanning quite simple. One caveat is that there is no feeder tray for continuous scanning, so all scanning has to be done manually. Clearly, this is not the unit to get if you have to scan a lot of pages. The copy quality of the printer is similarly excellent and is also speedy for an all-in-one.

Canon also fixed an OS X driver glitch: when using the MX310 I was unable to switch between scanning and printing (or vice versa) without getting an error saying that the device was in use. In order to switch I had to restart the computer. You can now switch easily between printer and scanner without any errors.

OTHER FEATURES:

There are numerous slots for media cards and a place to connect a thumb drive or device via USB. In Windows, I was able to access the information on the connected drive wirelessly via the software and print directly this way. On the Mac, I couldn''t seem to find the connected card or device--a clear error in the OS X software component. Either way, the download to the computer over WiFi took a considerable amount of time, given that the printer supposedly communicates via wireless n, this was surprising. Just getting the photo thumbnails to show on the computer within the Canon software program took a long time. So if you want to print via the software, it''s better to upload the pictures to your computer via a cable first and then use the software. That being said, the upload to the printer has a mild delay, but is much, much faster. It makes me think that this is some kind of software or hardware glitch that may be worked out in the future.)

The printer is also capable of printing without being attached to a computer. The small screen on the printer has a number of printing features available. That being said, it is not always the easiest thing to navigate through and I found it much easier to use the computer with the software. Still, in a pinch this is a nice feature. Being able to do layout prints, print an ID photo, and stickers directly from your printer is a major plus in my book. The printer can even print PDF files from a USB drive without access to a computer--a really nice touch.

SUMMARY:

This is a capable and easy to use all-in-one that would work well as a home printer. Unlike many all-in-one printers, it seems to perform all of its functions--print, scan, and copy. There are mostly pluses here and few minuses. That being said, for the pure text printer, a laser printer will probably print faster for a lower price per page. And for the advanced photo buff or professional, will need a dedicated photographic printer for that perfect work of art. But for the rest of us the MG6120 is a jack of all trades and master of most.

ADDENDUM 2/28/2010

Near the end of January, my original printer cartridges were empty. In an effort to save money I ordered these non-OEM cartridges: (I am using the web address because I can no longer find this using the insert product link button). These did not come with their own chips, and after spending much time prying off the chips from my original cartridges and gluing them in place, all but one cartridge failed to be recognized by the printer. This rendered the printer useless (not even the scanning function will work with unrecognized cartridges).

I ran out to 3 separate brick and mortar stores for OEM replacement cartridges--these cartridges are new and none of the stores had the full complement of cartridges. The rarest of cartridges in this regard was the CLI-226 Gray cartridge, which is only used on the new, higher-end, photo printers. After placing the OEM cartridges into the carriage, they were still not recognized.

I called Canon customer support and they walked me through the process from start to finish. They were polite and took about 30 minutes on the phone with me troubleshooting the printer. I was also assured that if a cartridge didn''t work that they would send out a replacement and if they couldn''t get the printer to work that they would exchange the printer for me! In the end, alls well that ends well. The cartridges were recognized and the printer hummed to life.

This kind of customer support is quite rare in the fast world of technology and in my estimation really adds value to this printer in a big way. Hats off to Canon for their careful attention to their customers.

This is a really great all in one printer and things couldn''t have gone easier.

The longest part of setting this printer up was waiting while the software installed. That aside this is a great printer, scanner, and copier. Photo prints are store quality. Setup was a breeze. I had started reading the instructions but soon realized they weren''t needed as the printer walks you through the setup. Setting up the wireless feature was a breeze and installing the print cartridges easy. It prints photos and documents perfectly and scans very quickly at a fantastic resolution.

The controls are easy to understand and the software is easy to use.

Some of the pluses:

Sleek and nifty interface.

Easy wireless setup.

Very easy to use.

Easy to install print cartridges.

Touchscreen LCD.

Decent wireless speeds.

Photo quality is realistic and beautiful.

Print quality is excellent.

Scans at very high resolution.

Scans and prints quickly.

6 tanks of ink for perfect photographic reproduction.

A couple of negatives:

Software takes a while to load. Especially on multiple machines.

Piano black exterior begs for fingerprints and dust.

The printer is a bit on the large size.

It has 6 tanks of ink to replace.

There are two things I don''t like about this printer. The first relatively minor irk is the black piano finish which I don''t mind too much because I won''t be touching the printer much if at all possible. Its going to be a dust magnet though. The second is financial and that is the very reason the color photos look so good. It uses 6 tanks of ink and so far you can only get them manufactured from Canon. The cost of the ink could become a roadblock if you intend on printing a lot of pictures, which is one of the major draws of this printer. Granted it is an excellent scanner too.

The only reason I rated it a 4 is mainly due to the replacement ink costs and because the cartridges are small. I use a color laser printer for everyday use and those cartridges last forever with frequent printing. I''ll be using this Canon primarily for photographs and that''s why I''m afraid of the potential ink costs. I have not printed enough pictures yet to get a "picture" of how quickly I''ll be going through the ink. Replacing all cartridges twice is just about the same as the cost of the new printer with all the ink. I am not entirely sure on this suspicion since all I''ve been using the last 2 years is a color laser-jet so I will update you on my ink usage with this printer doing photos only in the future.

In a very perverse way it kind of almost makes sense to upgrade printers sooner than constantly replacing ink doesn''t it?

This works flawlessly for me using Windows Vista and 7 hooked via wireless to 3 computers around the house all in different rooms.

This is a great machine. The print quality is superb. I compared it to an HP8500 and it beat it hands down in print quality.

Set up was fairly straightforward. I tried the wireless feature and it was easy to configure my settings but when it came time to connect my laptop to it I couldn''t find the printer. I assume I needed to load the CD drivers, etc. on my laptop as the instructions say to do, which I did not want to do.

This to me should not be the case. My Mac connects to all kinds of other printers and finds the drivers it needs. Anyway, I connected the printer to my desktop (not the laptop I was mentioning) with the USB cord and it went fine. No problems at all.

I really like the display that pops up and guides you through whatever you are doing. Depending on your job various options/buttons light up on the cover which is really neat. So what you can see are only the things available for your job. Very nice.

A major complaint I have is that the startup manual is so confusing. Rather than keep the languages separated, they chose to split the page for English and I assume Spanish. It became very confusing. This really slowed me down. But it wasn''t the printer''s weakness, but the person who made that decision.

Another issue I have is that the paper cassette doesn''t hold a lot of paper. No big deal if it sits next to your computer. But if you are using the wireless option from another floor in your home, well that could become a hassle.

All in all, this is a great machine and is performing very well. The print quality and speed are superb.

Want Canon PIXMA MG6120 Wireless Inkjet Photo All-in-One Printer (4503B002) Discount?

Canon has produced a very nice new all-in-one printer (print, scan, copy) that was easy to set up and has produced very nice output while I''ve been using it. As with all all-in-one printers, there are some tradeoffs to be made, and with a price point of $200 the printer sits in the middle of the current market for these types of printers. I''ve worked with other recent Canon printers, specifically the MX340, another all-in-one which comes at a lower price point. The Canon line of Small and Home Office printers have been very good and have made significant inroads into the market.

The MG line of printers aim for higher quality output and utilize 6 (or 5) cartridge printing. The results, when compared to four color cartridge printing has been spectacular. I sat down and have used the printer to print out numerous photos, both on 4 x 6 photo paper and on 8 1/2 by 11 photo paper and the results are very pleasing to the eye. The extra cartridges, adding in gray and a second black cartridge help produce some eye-popping results. The cartridges are small, but so far their yield has been very good, especially considering my printing of large full-color photos, and while not cheap, the replacement cartridges for the 5 basic cartridges are reasonably priced at about $13 apiece (the larger second black cartridge is about double the size of the other cartridges and thus carries a slightly larger price tag). So far I''ve not seen a large reliance or drainage of any one color which is sometimes seen in other color printers. The cartridges are of a new style for Canon and proprietary to the MG line of printers.

The top of the printer includes touch screen controls and a bright 3 inch LCD. The controls are fairly intuitive and the touch screen is very responsive to commands. When not in use, the controls fade back into the black printer cover giving the printer an overall very sleek design. The display is very bright and easy to read, and the system uses the screen to give quality feedback to the user in response to the touch commands both through text and images. I have had very little problem controlling most printer functions from the keypad.

The printer comes out of the box with a basic setup and instructions book, a software CD, six cartridges, the print head and cartridge cradle which must be user-installed, other quick support documents and a sample pack of Canon photo paper. Unpacking and setting up the printer took only about 20 minutes, including the testing of the print heads which was the single longest task. Attaching the printer to my wireless network was a snap, taking only a minute or two. A unique feature of this printer is the inclusion of a networking Ethernet port for wired networking, something unusual to find in a home and home office printer and in one around this price. It is a nice backup to have in case of problems with a wireless network.

The setup of the software on the client computers took a lot longer. An unfortunate side effect of many all-in-one printers like this is the reliance numerous client programs to be able to take advantage of all the printer''s functions. Even basic printing required setup that took nearly as long as the printer setup (even installing only some of the potential programs), and required a restart of the computer as part of installation. After the setup, however, printing has been a snap, producing good photos simply and easily out of various graphics programs.

On the front of the printer is a door that opens to reveal several media slots for direct printing from various types of media cards: Memory Stick Duo and Memory Stick PRO Duo, SD Card, Memory Stick and Compact Flash, along with various permutations like miniSD and microSD with proper adapters for the slots. It would have been nice to have a USB drive connector on the front of the machine. but certainly not a big deal.

Printing speeds were quick, though the transfer of data from the computer to the printer seemed a bit slow. Once produced, though, a high quality 8 1/2 by 11 photo took only about a minute to produce, and 4 x 6 photos took significantly less time. Regular paper printing was snappy and the output very good for the pages I tried, and the automatic duplexer function was a nice addition. The regular paper tray, however, is not designed for real business work, holding only a couple dozen papers from the tray underneath the output tray. The back loading slot for photo and regular paper handles a lot more paper, though again only maybe 100 pages at a time. You just need to check your paper supply before sending more than a single page to the printer.

Canon boasts the ability to produce full HD movie stills to the printer, though this option apparently only works with HD video shot using Canon video recorders. I was unable to test this feature out.

The scan and copy functions are quick and sharp and produce very nice quality output. The addition of the LCD screen and the touch control replaces the ability for the unit to have an automatic document feeder a feature that is available on several cheaper all-in-one. In this case it is part of the tradeoff of a sleek design and functionality. If you are a frequent scanner, this omission might be a point to consider when looking at the unit. I think in future lines you will see this convergence, considering that traditional controls and a document feeder co-exist easily on other Canon lines.

The unit itself is relatively quiet when in use, except for the self-testing when the unit is powered on. Even when in standby mode the unit has some very bright lights showing, making me wonder how much power the unit is drawing when not in use. The construction feels solid for the printer and gives you the feeling that it is well made and worth the price.

Overall I''ve been very happy with the unit and the results. I wish Canon did not require so much software to use the basic functions I''d like to have been able to print simply through Windows, but that is not a huge problem. And the software installation allowed me to pick and choose software components, so I didn''t have to load all the programs onto a computer that only needed basic printing functionality. This is a very good printer for the price, especially considering the gorgeous output, especially if you are looking to output photos.

So got this printer for the wife for Christmas. Great printer slick has everything I need in a printer...... Except and endless supply of ink. I literally printed of 2 photos and test papers and a passport application. I looked at the ink levels and the yellow and cyan are running REALLY low for that amount of printing.

I will say that the photos are FANTASTIC and even went as far as to buy the great quality paper. The printer pictures are SUPER clear and great quality.

The wireless capabilities makes it easy for me to place this where ever I want and not have to take up space around my desk. Did find I had to remove the back plate for it to feed paper correctly from the back feeder.

All in all a good printer but waiting to see what the ink costs will be. I will keep you updated.

I finally retired my 18 year old HP Laserjet 6MP. It still works, but the network printer box that I''ve been using with it is broken and my new computer does not have a parallel port on the back. The review on CNET for the OKI B411DN was very positive which led me to choose this printer. It was a true plug and play on my network. After attaching the cords and turning it on, my computer detected the printer on the network right away. I loaded the drivers from the included disk, and began printing. The speed and quality of the new OKI are many times better than my old 6MP workhorse. I''m very happy with it. It also has a smaller footprint and is lighter in weight than my old printer. Can you believe I paid over $1000 for that 6MP 18 years ago! I probably can''t even give it away now.

Buy B411DN - Laser Printer (2400) Now

I bought the B411DN model of this printer 3 weeks ago for my home network, selected the free shipping option and it arrived within 3 business days. Setup was pretty straightforward, although some of the Oki instructions were a bit out of order. One has to install the software from the enclosed CD before driving some of the setup function, but otherwise no problems. I have 3 PCs to connect, and elected to use the Oki website installer from each. This worked without a hitch.

We''ve used the printer quite a bit since then without any glitches or hitches. Its been all text and forms so far, and the print quality seems very good. I haven''t actually clocked the speed, but its much faster than the companion ink jet printer we use, and I can believe the advertised 35 ppm for text. Time to print start for a network driven job appears to be between 5-10 seconds, but once it starts it chugs along pretty quickly.

We leave it always powered on, although 60 seconds or so after power on (or after print job completes) it falls back into power saver mode, the silence of which leads me to believe it isn''t sucking up any watts of significance. If the advertised pages per cartridge holds up, then this will likely turn out to be far more economical than the ink jet.

Overall, I''d say this is a very good monochrome printer. Purchase price was, in my view, a pretty good deal given the performance, economy and good reviews on various websites.

This printer is excellent! Fast (even with duplexing), energy efficient, and sleek in design. LED technology is similar to Laser technology but more energy efficient (meaning less heat and curling) and less moveable parts which means longer lasting. And Oki is the innovator in this area. I was so tired of replacing color cartridges on my HP inkjet when all I do is print B/W for the most part. The B411 also seems extremely well built. Overall I am very pleased!

Coming from a SLOW Canon Bubble (ink) Jet printer that used ink like a Hummer uses gas, this OkiData B411DN (mine is BLACK) is like a Toyota Prius, except as fast as a Porsche.

I plugged the ethernet cable (not supplied) into my wireless router in the other room, and my computer instantly recognized it, but I still had to use the install CD. Did not have any issues with my MacBookPro, but I am running an older OS (10.58) and it works great! Within five minutes, I clicked print on a few pages, and before I made into the living room, all the pages were waiting for me, with immaculate prints. I then printed some high resolution pictures, and I like it. You can make out some artifacts, if you look closely, but it''s a LOT better than a Xerox machine (I haven''t used a Xerox in about a decade, so I''m sure they''re probably a lot better these days...)

The best part is how much I can print now! My ink tanks used to dry up, if I didn''t use them fast enough, and that old Bubble Jet would just drain $$$ from my wallet, and the heads clogged up. For about the same price as six (6) ink tanks (all the needed colors), I get a toner cartridge that lasts 1000 times longer! (just a wild guess)

I got it just in time for college, and INSTANTLY put it through it''s paces. I have to print SO MUCH for school, and this actually works out to be about HALF the cost of using the school''s labs, but the convenience factor multiplies my savings of money, time, and hassle to make my life so much easier. Black and white is all I need for school, and most other things can just be black and white. Color is for screens, man! I''d much rather have massive BNW WATERPROOF prints, rather than some smeared, expensive, ink-jet color.

It''s heavy, and it''s big, and my lights dim whenever I print something, but I don''t care. Love the wireless printing from any room in the house, and the black color goes well with my decor. I like how it''s all "closed" up when in use. The huge amount of paper is hidden, and it''s just this tight looking magical black box. I am also able to print envelopes, by using the "single feed" trays, and it''s easy! My professionalism has been compounded ten-fold! I seem legit now!

Buy HP Q7964AN #02 Photo Value Pack Now

I stumbled upon this "HP Custom Photo Value Pack" about a year ago at my local store. For business purposes, I needed to print some bulk photos on the fly and on a limited budget. This package is a GREAT value! First of all, it includes Black AND colored ink cartridges along with 150 sheets of HP 4"x6" glossy photo paper. Currently, there is only ONE other HP Vivera colored ink cartridge combo set available for my printer model (that I know of). That other color combo pack ONLY brings the 5 assorted colored ink cartridges necessary for my printer to run properly. That other set ranges in price anywhere from 50 to 65 dollars. Here''s the kicker it DOESN''T even include the black ink! You have to buy that separately, which is another 15-20 bucks.

When I first saw this "Photo" Value Pack, I was almost sure that it was not the right size or type for MY printer. The price seemed a LOT lower than all the other ink cartridges for my machine. After looking at my old cartridges, asking an "ink specialist" at the store and verifying the info on the box... I realized that yes; indeed, this "Photo Value Pack" WAS going to work with my printer. Were the colored ink cartridges in this "Photo" pack smaller than the INDIVIDUAL color inks that I was normally buying? Was the black ink going to be a puny, not-quite-full cartridge... that would run out in a week or two? Surprisingly, the answer is No! ALL of the cartridges in this "Photo Value Pack" wound up lasting me JUST as long as the individual ones I''d been buying all of these years. As a bonus, this Pack also comes with 150 sheets of HP photo paper! I''ve seen similar packs of photo paper ALONE sell for 20 30 dollars, if not more.

I have an "HP Photosmart C6150 All-In-One Scanner, Printer & Fax". If you have one of these professional type HP scanner/printer/fax machines... you KNOW how expensive the ink is. And you also know that your machine recognizes off brand ink; it "knows" if you try to refill the empty cartridges (and the machine will reject them, or refuse to print). It''s definitely a smart way for HP to keep its clients on the hook to buy their inks. But with this "Photo Value Pack"... there IS a way to level the playing field (a tiny bit). Trust me, over the long run it will work out in your favor. Prior to finding this HP "Photo Value Pack", I''ve been content with buying my printer ink on an "As needed basis". If the printer is running low on a certain color, I''d run out and buy one individual cartridge. Sometimes if there was a GREAT deal, I''d stock up on the black ink which ranges from about $15 to 30 bucks per cartridge.

I think the labeling on the box intentionally implies that this package is specifically for photo printing projects only and consumers don''t immediately realize exactly what you get with this. Initially, I only bought this "Photo value pack" for a specific project, where I NEEDED to print lots of pics. But once that project was done, the ink cartridges were still cranking out my other documents. After that, I was a convert. This is the only combo pack of HP ink (that works with my machine) that offers all 5 color cartridges AND the larger black ink cartridge. This is now the ONLY way I purchase ink for my HP printer. The photo paper has now simply become an added bonus. I actually have about 3 or 4 unopened baggies with 150 sheets of the HP photo paper still inside.

Now, there IS one minor flaw... Over the past year of using this "Photo Value Pack" in place of purchasing my regular individual cartridges one-by-one... this situation has emerged. Maybe it''s just me, but I''m mentioning it anyway. It seems like the Dark Blue & Dark Pink cartridges (Cyan and Magenta I think) DO get used more than the LIGHT pink & LIGHT blue cartridges. After buying the "Photo Value Pack" about 7 or 8 times, I''ve wound up with 3 or 4 of the light pink and light blue cartridges still unopened. I''ll admit that I''ve had to run out and purchase a dark blue and a dark pink cartridge to kind of even it out. BUT! They have recently come out with these `Bonus'' sized individual color cartridges... so for $5 $7 each... I STILL consider it to be a better value over the long run. Now, with Amazon offering it at an even LOWER price than my local office supply store... I am very pleased. Sometimes, it''s the little things that make me happy. If you print a lot of color documents (or pictures) ... then this set will keep you stocked up with premium HP inks at a fraction of the cost and nice 4" x 6" glossy photo paper to boot!

  • USB interface; PC and Mac compatible

Epson Stylus (collective: ink-jet printer) are both 1 stars and 5 stars at the same time.

This is about the BEST printer I have ever had aside from my dye-sub photo printer(true-black). But there is a serious design problem associated with their printer assembly particularly the thinner-then-human-hair nozzle head which gets clog way too easily.

I have had the CX5200 for 14 months now (C80, C82, CX5200, CX5400 all share the same printer block assembly, hence they use the same ink), the nozzles got clog 10 months into it, and Epson was kind enough to ship me a replacement with a set of spare ink inside. However, just 4 months afterwards (today), my new printer''s nozzles are clog again! If you would just run a google search with words like "cx5200 + clog" you would see hundreds of forum with ppl complain about their clogged nozzles and angry consumer wanting a class action suit. I''m rather fused not in the fact that I paid $199 for the CX5200 months ago, but the fact that I have purchased 2+ sets of spare inks costing over $100 which I can''t use, unless I buy another epson with the same "defective" printer block and that, evidently, might not even out last my 2+ sets of ink as both of my other CX5200 didn''t!

Update 6/1/04. I got a refurb. CX last week from their website for a very good price. The nozzles went out again after 2 weeks. New record! Good luck for the person who disagree with me. I bet you either sale or work for Epson.

If you''re considering this printer, or any other candidates in the EPSON CX line, there''s something you should know: they all suffer from the same fatal flaw: clogging print heads. Unlike HP or Canon printers, the print heads in the Epson are embedded within the printer itself (not the print cartridge). This means that, irrespective of use, sometime within 1-2 years after you purchase this printer, you WILL have a print head failure which will cost you more to fix than the original purchase price of the printer.

Happened to me after 16th months of occasional (2x per month, about 10 pages per month) use. As with the other reviews below, I changed the ink cartridges, and found the machine simply henceforth spit out blank pages. I cleaned the heads 15 times (incidentally, each time you clean it uses about 2.5% of the ink in the cartridge)...no change.

I can say that without a doubt this is the best printer or scanner I''ve ever owned. It prints very quietly and quickly.

Black and white text printing is flawless without any smudges. Borderless photo printing (which it''s predecessor the CX5200 lacked) is an excellent feature. We will get a ton of use out of this for scrapbooking. Epson''s Durabrite inks also have a longer life than other brands (70+ years) so that is an added bonus.

The scanner produces excellent results as well. It scans at high enough resolutions that it will easily copy a photo that is scanned in. You can''t tell the difference between the copied photo and the original from the photomat.

I didn''t buy it for its photocopying capabilities but it works as well as the giant copier in my office at work plus it has very accurate color copying.

For the price, you currently can''t ask for more in an inkjet. Very happy with the purchase so far.

**Update 04/2006: Like many others on their recent reviews, I''ve run into the nefarious clogged nozzle problem. A small fortune of inkjet cartridges are now rendered useless because of this limitation. Meanwhile, the HP 990 hand-me-down printer I gave to my spouse is still humming along.

There is also a class-action settlement regarding Epson''s reporting ''empty'' printer cartrdiges that still have ink remaining. I am opting for the 25-dollar alternative and WILL NOT be buying any more Epson products.

Back in January 2004 I wrote:

The CX5400 has scanning, copying and printing (but not fax) capability. The lack of faxability was initially a concern the four or five times a year I really need it.

Setup was painless -the large poster walks you through all the bits of packing tape to remove. The cartridges were a little tricky to insert at first, but now that I see how it fits, it''s not a big deal. Driver installation worked well provided you use the supplied CD rather than letting let Windows auto-install. There could be a better explanation on what the four or five components are, though these appear to be related to the scanning option.

Profile: The CX5400 is a larger than I''d like. In particular, the input and output trays project such that I need a 20" x 3'' deep spot to situate the printer. The USB port plugs in the parallel to the back, requiring some clearance to avoid jiggling it out. It''s kind of unfortunate they didn''t have the input and output trays stacked up (like my HP990C) as this was more space efficient.

Capacity: The printer holds about 30-40 sheets. This is disappointing, especially on longer documents. There''s wiggle room in the feeder and my first few tries resulted in jams. Two sided printing is available only by feeding the output back into the tray. The driver''s smart enough to handle this, though I sorta miss the auto-feeding option of the HP990.

Software: As mentioned, there are a few components installed, and no explanation on whether you really need them. The software monitor is rather chirpy and comes up whenever you print. It occasionally tries to be a bit too helpful -a la Windows XP -by popping up the Epson help menu on various topics. On the other hand, the cartridge ink monitor is really cool, a feature I always wanted.

Speed: Pretty good, however the printer will stall on complicated graphs. I have an heart rate monitor chart (2 color, line graph) that took 30 minutes for it to chomp through. When the printer paused, I thought it may have lost its connection or Windows torpedoed itself, however it eventually resumed.

Noise: As other reviewers have noted, the printer is quiet in standby and has a reasonable noise level during printing. It would be cool if they implemented a standby mode where it would power itself on and off between print jobs. I suppose I could manually turn it on and off myself.

Output: Printouts are relatively sharp, as are pictures. They''re not laser-sharp, e.g., I can still see jaggies if I hold it close, but the quality is as expected.

Based on personal experience, a black cartridge lasts about 800-900 pages. Color longevity is going to vary on application.

Overall: great bang for the buck. I''d like a more efficient profile with a higher input capacity. I''m not sure why my HRM graphs are taking so long to print -this is certainly an area for further investigation.

I have only one complaint about this printer. Photos printed with it come out with a brownish-pinkish tinge to them. The manual (and tech support) says to check the calibration of the monitor because the colors may be off, but after extensive testing both with the printer connected to the PC and in standalone mode, I stand by my assessment. I''ve tried every setting under the sun on the printer itself and in the software to try to fix it. I''ve also cleaned the print cartridges and primed them (even though it was brand new at the time). And as a comparison, I printed the exact same at the same time with my HP Photosmart P1100. It came out nearly perfect, with matching colors, etc., and matching what was on the screen.

A coworker of mine also bought the same printer and is having exactly the same problem (by the way, we both work on computers in our jobs so we know how to troubleshoot problems). When he finally gave up and called tech support, he found out from the reluctant technician that there were a lot of calls coming in regarding this issue, and that they knew about it and were looking into it.

I hope Epson can come out with a newer driver or maybe updated firmware that can correct this problem. Otherwise, I can''t use it as a photo printer. They have such a good reputation for their photo printing that I can''t believe they''d let this happen.

Otherwise, this has proven to be a great printer in many other respects. It does an awesome job of scanning, printing both black and white and color documents, and copying. It''s quick, quiet, and is easy to use. I also like the separate ink cartridges--nothings worse than throwing out a $50 multicolor cartridge that feels pretty full, just because it ran out of one color.

Epson, fix your problem!!!
