didn''t buy it from here but thought it needs some justification. this is not that bad esp comparing with lexmarks...

after i bought this one, after the lexmarks, i decide to dump the lmk and stick with hp

even the cheapest is fast (black or color, text or picture), no waitings for warmup, print quality''s decent, does its work as it is supposed to. you don''t have to worry about downloading the installations since once you first plugin the usb cable it automatically pops out (true for macs, not sure about windows), a few min later it''s ready to use, no harass, (with lexmarks, i download, install, redownload, reinstall for 6 times and it still does not work, at all), no annoying pop outs, it''s just in your system when you need to use it

for a printer for normal use, that''s way enough.

I got this printer purely because of price. It has performed normally and I am very happy with it. I am posting this review because my experience is so different from some reviewers.

I had one case of printing segments of the document on multiple pages. Attempts to feed single sheets got the same result, indicating it was not the paper or printer. It went away after a restart of the PC.

I have had dozens of printers over the years. This printer is as good as most and I would buy it again.

I''ve got this printer because I''m in college and I have homework and stuff to print all the time. So far it has worked fine and it''s fast as heck when you print black and white-fast draft. People complain about the number of copies printed but I think they come with a sample of ink so you can start right out of the box. The ink you buy has more ml/oz, so don''t give up on a great printer. By the way,I have 2 HP printers and all our 7 computers in the house are HP, I trust the quality.

Unlike some of the other reviewers here, we have enjoyed this printer combo.

The ink carts come in two sizes, so if you want longer lasting ink just get the xl size. I also noticed Amazon sells refurb ink carts for just $10 with Prime free shipping so we''re happy about that as well.

We purcahsed ours for just $25 around Christmas 2011. Six months later and there is nothing to complain about and I am just ordering new black ink today.

After a big storm five or six months ago with power fluctuations and outages, my old Lexmark would no longer power on. I don''t do a lot of printing. I just need something that can do the occasional rebate form or recipe or Mapquest map as well as a quick copy now and then. The local Wally mart had this unit on sale for twenty-five bucks, so I picked one up. Heck, that''s less than what you''d pay for the color and black print cartridges for any printer on the market!

As I said, my print demands are light, so the negative reviews I found here didn''t faze me that much. I was very pleasantly surprised by this little guy''s performance. It''s acceptably fast, has very good print quality for both text and images and has had no problems whatsoever. It''s not blazingly fast, but it''s certainly fast enough. I have my print preferences set to fast draft-mode and the output is fine--very crisp and clear. Colors are rich and saturated, no banding or jaggies.

I''ve had no issues with paper jams, but I think that has more to do with the paper you use than with the printer. Look at any printer on this site and you''ll see a substantial portion of the reviews complaining about paper misfeeds. It doesn''t matter whether the printer is expensive or cheap, the rants about paper jams are ever-present. I use HP 24lb inkjet paper and I suspect that''s why I have no problems in this area.

Installation went smoothly. I have had the 1051 for about four months now. I''ve probably printed about 40 to 50 pages total. HP''s print utility tells me that I''ve used a little more than half of my black-and-white cartridge and a little less than half of the color. I continue to be pleased with both printer and copier in terms of quality and performance. I haven''t used the scanner.

***EDIT 11/2012*** I continue to be pleased with the HP 1051. I''m in the process of selling my home, and the lawyer prefers that I scan my documents and email them to him rather than FAX, so I''ve gotten some experience with the 1051''s scanner. HP gives you a scan utility that allows you to just choose what you want. Photo to JPEG or to TIF, or Document to PDF. That''s all you have to do. It works perfectly! My document PDF files are completely legible with just the right brightness and contrast. You can tweak settings if you want, but I haven''t found the need to do so.

I have exhausted the starter black cartridge that came with the printer. I''d guess about 75 pages. The folks that whine and carry on about expensive inks need to understand that *ALL* printers are like that. That''s the pricing model the the manufacturers use. They take a loss on the printer hardware itself and then make their money on the replacement ink. You can bluster and fulminate about how you''ll never buy another HP again, but you''ll discover that whichever brand you switch to plays the same game with the ink. It''s just a fact of life.
