I looked and researched wireless printers and was going crazy. This one had all postive reviews so I decided to order it. I wanted an all in one printer/scanner/copy/ fax and wireless. At 149.00 dollars sale price I decided to go for it.

It came in a huge box and I thought what the heck did I order and when I took it out of the box it was bigger than my other all in one, but the double sided printing attachment adds some bulk (I have not tried this feature). It is noisier than my HP 4280 all in one, but that is not a big deal.

Set up was fairly easy, I just followed the instruction set up page. The software took a long time to install. I am familiar with printer set ups and installing software so no problem there just time consuming. It came with everything I needed including the USB cord (usually not included). The fax was easy to set up and send (I have not received a fax yet)It has speed dial too. The wireless works perfectly from my laptop. I''m familiar with HP software so the program is easy to use for scanning and it''s easy to do copies too.

I am unfamiliar with printheads that you have to install yourself and I do not know if they have to be replaced periodically or not. The ink comes with a pop off top that was kind of scary but you just pop it off. Cartridges are very easy to install. It seems to have to go through a lot to get going including noise.

It took me over an hour but I wasn''t in a big hurry.

The only problem I have encountered is with my new HP pavilion laptop 64bit running Vista. My desk top is a dell running XP, and I didn''t have any software problems. The software installed on my laptop with no problems except it gives an error message when I shut down my laptop. My HP 4120 did the same thing, HP has not been able to give me a fix. It''s a 64 bit problem.

I''m pretty impressed with all the features and I have printed out some 4 by 6 photos and had no problem using photo paper or 4 by 6 paper. The paper tray holds tons of paper which is nice when using wireless, in case I forget to check before printing.

I only gave it 4 stars because of the Vista 64 bit software glitch.

I am an intermediate to advanced computer user.

If you''re looking for a printer with all the latest technologies, check out the HP Officejet 6500 Wireless. Keep in mind that HP makes two 6500 models--one is wireless and one is not. This is the wireless model. With copy, scan, print and fax functions this all-in-one is a real workhorse.

Fast speed (up to 31 ppm) and extremely easy to use. The setup function is all done via software--you don''t even need to touch the 6500''s keypad controls. It links directly to your System Preferences control panel making the wireless and fax settings easy. It uses 4 separate color inks, so you can control your print costs when only a single color needs to be replaced.

Main drawback is HP''s decision to only include a 2-line text display. For a printer in this price range, HP should have included a 2.5" color LCD screen. If you''re looking for a multifunction machine that does it all, seriously consider the HP 6500 Wireless.

Yes, the print quality is beautiful, but I''m not as overjoyed as the previous reviewers.

The printer driver alone is 245 MB. That''s almost as big as my entire MS Office suite! WHY??? With few of its optional programs included (an additional 100 MB or so), it took a good 20 minutes to copy and install the software from the disk onto my desktop computer and complete the initial setup.

I had expected that once the machine was installed on my wireless network using my desktop, that our laptops on the network could simply detect it and add it with the Windows Add Printer function, if all they wanted was print capability--maybe by grabbing a small driver off the internet or from the machine itself. But oh, no. This thing has to be installed from the disk for each machine, and took 20 minutes each to install on our XP laptops, and almost 30 minutes on our VISTA machine. The useless completion bar sat at 94% for most of that time.

As I said in the header, the machine itself is noisy. A few seconds after each print job completes, it starts back up and clunks and whirs for 15-20 seconds, apparently chewing its way through some kind of self-adjustment/maintenance. I fear that this is not the sound of long term durability. I''m glad I bought the two year warranty.

I have had the OfficeJet 6500 Wireless for a few weeks and am genuinely impressed. The print quality is as good as it''s going to get for an inkjet, and is very sharp. Individual ink tanks for each color keeps waste and cost down, and kudos to HP for selling both standard and large capacity ink tanks, allowing heavy users another way to keep costs down. The duplexer is nice and has really cut down on paper consumption. The scanning and faxing abilities are as you would expect for a modern multifunction, and do not disappoint. Where this machine really impresses is the details. It includes a USB cable. You can insert a SD/SDHC/MS card into a card slot and scan any document directly to a PDF file on the memory card, in color or greyscale-without a computer. If you have an iPhone or iPod Touch, HP has a free application that allows photo printing directly from the iPhone/iPod and is really slick. The unit also has a built-in web server than can be used for status, maintenance, configuration, and even scanning using a web app-even if your computer doesn''t have the HP software installed. The wireless setup is incredibly simple-run the wireless wizard from the control panel, pick which network and enter the network password. It connected to my WPA2 network immediately (note the network password is case sensitive) and I never even connected the USB or Ethernet cables. And I am quite impressed with the level of support for Apple computers-even the included software bundle is full-featured and works well, although OS X users will find iPhoto to be superior to the provided software for photo printing. In all I am extremely happy with this machine and especially considering the sub-$200 price.

Great printer until I got an error indicating an "ink system error". Followed all of the directions on the HP website to troubleshoot. No success. Tried same recommendations a few more times a few days later. Still no success. Got online with HP Help Chat. After an hour online, the representative tells me my printer has a PEN error and is not fixable. And, I''m told, I''ll get a free replacement from HP. And oh, would I like an extended warrantee? After all, the new printer will assume the old printer''s warrantee and it will expire in a few months. No thanks. But then -the HP Chat person tells me she can''t authorize the return. I''ll have to speak with someone in person. After over an hour! Busy as I am, finding time to sit on a phone line wasn''t easy. But eventually I did. And after another HOUR AND A HALF I finally have someone who can authorize the return. Even got an email confirming all the details. Printer was to arrive in 5-10 business days. Well.... you guessed it. After 14 business days, there''s nothing. I check the status of the return. Nothing has shipped. Send an email to their customer support team inquiring about the status. And "due to an internal error", they have no idea when my printer will ship. If ever.

Naaah folks. Save your $. Skip the HP experience. Trust me when I tell you I could have bought three new printers for the time I''ve spent fooling around on this one.

Hewlett Packard LaserJet 4050T Laser Printer

Hewlett Packard LaserJet 4050T Laser Printer
  • Prints up to 17 pages per minute at 1200 dpi resolution
  • 8 MB RAM standard, expandable to 200 MB, mass storage options
  • 3 paper trays, 65,000-sheet monthly duty cycle
  • Parallel and serial interfaces, 2 PCI-based EIO slots, Fast Infrared port
  • Option for HP JetDirect 600N (EIO) internal print servers for Ethernet, Token Ring, LocalTalk

Very fast 17 Pages per minute, great looking output at 1200 DPI, even better with the optional Ethernet 10/100 HP JetDirect 600N internal card. This printer is great as a shared network printer, or for users with large volumes of printing.

Only problem I''ve found is that if you are going to be printing large 1200 DPI graphics (like Photos), you will need to upgrade the memory from the base 8 MB of ram. As an alternative you could switch to 600 DPI instead, but the picture quality is reduced.

i purchased this printer about a year ago and the thing still works perfectly. We were able to get the thing up and running right away for our whole laboratory (12 shared users). The occasional software problem arises, but the amount of problems this printer encounters is FAR fewer than its predecessor. all in all, this is an excellent value and this printer performs the desired operation. I recommend this purchase.

I have at least one to two of this model printer in the offices I work at because they are so reliable, and need minimal maintenence. All of mine are in health care settings, where records are key. Some are one two or three trays. The toner last for many sheets of printing (never counted, but I know I probably go more than 1000 sheets at least). The printer rarely jams (except when I used really cheap thin paper), and the secretaries love the sheet feed selection if having to use overhead paper for a letter. The quality of the print (i believe up to 1200dpi) is great for black and white. Highly recommended investment, quite likely one of the last printers your office will need.

This web page is wrong. The "Will this work with your printer?" box says it won''t work with the Photosmart b209a. Surely it will, or am I crazy?

It''s confusing enough that there are two black cartridges with the same part number, one of which (photo black) is wrong, or so I think, without this stupid "Will this work with your printer?" thing.

I bought this cartridge for my HP B8550 printer, because it'' s only 1/3 the price of the same in Europe. But as expected my printer gave an error message: "incompatible ink cartridge". Obviously HP did some regionalizing in their equipment in order to generate additional income with the customers outside of the USA. Apparently the chip on the cartridge has another identification information. Also the same cartridge is called "HP 364 XL" in Europe instead of "HP 564 XL" in USA. Anyway, I''m pretty satisfied with my HP printer and in the meantime I found a dealer in Switzerland who sells these Cartridges only twice as expensive then in USA, so I''m lucky. The quality of the prints with the original HP ink cartridges is simply fantastic.

The biggest complaint for personal inkjets is well.. ink. It''s always expensive and you feel like you are spending the lionshare of your purchase on the fancy packaging and plastic delivery mechanism. We use our printer for casual use and a decent amount of photo 4x6 printing. These XL inks definitely last longer than the std versions that shipped with the printer, and yellow always seems to go first. But they work as advertised, and never last as long as you want them to. We''ve had our printer for 2 years and replaced inks once a year now.

The colors seem to pop when using the special 4x6 papers and drying time is very fast. I haven''t seen any fading in pictures that were printed 2 yrs ago with these inks, and they are advertised to not fade, so i guess its working as advertised.

How can you get excited about a paper tray? Although there''s nothing to get excited about, this paper tray is easy to install and works just as designed. Simply set the printer on it and configure 1 button in the printer setup and you''re done. I would highly recommend the 550-sheet tray over the 250-sheet tray. I originally purchased the smaller one and found myself refilling it frequently. Get the larger one. It''s worth a little extra money and doesn''t take up much more space at all.

This drawer was purchased to be used with a Lexmark E260dn network laser printer. It has performed well, was easy to install, and we have had no issues with it. It has allowed us to reduce the number of times we need to fill with paper vs number of print jobs. It holds a full ream of paper (500 sheets) plus approx 50 more. I would say that the cost of it is worth it even though it is nearly as expensive as the printer itself.

I have used HP laser printers for many years. However, I have heard comments (even from techs) about the newer HP printers not being the same quality, and I was really upset when I had to retire a perfectly good HP laser printer because HP does not choose to provide updated Windows 7 drivers for printers just over 5 years old. I ended up choosing the Lexmark E460dn printer. It is very cost effective, and seems to work very well in my small office environment. I did have to upgrade the firmware to deal with some weird issues, but the Lexmark support was very responsive and helpful -even walking me through the install on the phone. The biggest drawback is that the printer''s standard paper bin holds less than a ream of paper. I ended up ordering this expansion drawer for the printer that does hold one ream. While the cost of the extra tray is in the same range as the printer itself at discount, the total cost was still reasonable compared to other choices I reviewed.

The tray installed very easily (just set the printer on it), and it has worked fine for me since. The printer recognized it without any action on my part. I occasionally have a little trouble seating the new ream of paper in the tray because the edge of the stack of paper is tapered in the tray and somewhat hard to reach. However, that is not a big drawback, and probably would not be an issue at all if I changed the paper more often. The tray expands out the back of the printer so that it can hold legal size paper when I need that.

This tray makes the E460dn printer much more convenient.

I finally opened up this package from its original shipping package. Guess my mistake but I found another colored ink I had after I ordered this one. anyway as I was taking it out of the package I noticed it had a jiggling noise when you shook it. I always shake them up before I put them in. Sure enough you could hear like balls moving around in there. Right away I knew it wouldn''t work. I peeled off the label, and it did say "HP 17". But I printed out a couple of color photos and they had a bunch of lines in them. I''ve had this printer for a whole 10 hours, and only printed about 5-6 pages so far, but it''s awesome! Setup on my Mac was a breeze. Hooked the printer up to the network and immediately got an IP with DHCP. I then attempted to use the standard PCL driver with a standard JetDirect port on my Mac running OSx 10.6.. but don''t do this.. it seems that printing a single page will cause the printer to just print a blank page... and then another one.. and then..won''t stop :P. Ohwell.. After loading the proper drivers, Mac nicely finds the printer over bonjour and automagically sets it up as a printer and scanner (whoo hoo).

The Ups:

Fast printing -From deep sleep to wake up it takes about 20 seconds to get the first page out (pretty darn decent for a printer under 200 bucks)

Energy saving -in deep sleep it consumes less than a watt

Solid drivers/software that doesn''t get in the way.. for mac at least (not sure about windows)

Painless duplex printing

Copying without the need of a computer

Super light (25 lbs?) and small footprint

Toner cartridges that don''t cost an arm and a leg

A button on the printer that stops the current print job (AND actually works.. unlike some lexmark and hp printers I''ve encountered which cancel jobs that HAVEN''T been started yet.. ugh.)

The Downs:

Automatic document feeding can''t scan double sided... but kind of expected, although.. you can tell it to scan a stack of (one-sided) documents and print double-sided documents

The scanner lid seems to be spring-loaded, so be gentle when closing the flatbed scanner

The scanner lid only opens 45 degrees not 90 degrees... maybe this is normal.. but my xerox copier goes all the way up.. ohwell)

-Getting this printer to work in Linux (ubuntu 11.04) was a little painful-had to install the cups and lpr driver from the website.. but it''s decently document on Brother''s website, so check it out (hint: even though ubuntu "recommends" using the 7045 driver, dont.. use 7065dn.. using the 7045 will just send the printer data, and then the printer will just go back to sleep without printing anything).

So even with all the things that I don''t like about the printer, I still highly recommend the printer, given the price and how many features brother packed into this model. I would totally recommend this printer to anyone in the need of b/w network printer.

EDIT: 7/31/2011--

The printer doesn''t seem to have airprint support (yet), so those of you who want to print directly from you iphone/ipad/iwhatever.. sorry -it won''t work out of the box.. you''ll probably need to setup a print server. I''ll probably try doing this on a dd-wrt instance. Also, I tried using the Brother iPrint&Scan app on my iPhone, but it didn''t work with this printer.. ohwell.

EDIT: 9/30/2011 @ 5:05pm--

According to the handy-dandy printer statistics webpage built into the printer, I''ve printed 442 pages so far, and the printer is telling me that I''m running low on toner. I''m using the toner that came with the printer, (TN420) which is advertised to last about 1200 pages. I don''t believe that I''ve printed any images or anything that requires a ton of toner, so I''m a bit confused on why I''m low on toner. Still-Printer/scanner is great.. maybe just a defective toner unit that got shipped with the printer?

EDIT: 9/30/2011 @ 5:13pm --

I found this "toner save" option in the web interface, so I enabled it. (Oops-forgot about that. Printed out a page and in my opinion, it looks the same as when the "toner save" option was disabled. Hopefully I''ll get better performance out of toner cartridges now.

EDIT: 10/19/2012:

Yep, printer is still running strong.. by the way, numerous people have commented that the toner included with the printer is a ''starter toner''. So if you buy this printer, you''ll probably want to purchase a Brother TN420 along with this printer (or upgrade to the Brother TN450, if you''re looking for the high yield model).

Buy Brother Printer DCP7065DN Monochrome Laser Multi-Function Copier Now

As the title suggests, I cannot believe there aren''t more reviews for this printer, good or bad.

I''ve been drinking the HP coolaid for many many years now. I don''t print much to be honest with you, but always thought that a color printer was something everybody should have in the home. I''ve owned about 4 HP multi-function printers over the years, and my last one was the worst in respect to ink. Not only were there 6 cartridges, but even printing in Black yielded a drop in the color inks! Due the infrequent usage of the printer, my inks would also "expire" so that I had to replace them. All this coupled with the fact that when I did buy new ink, most of the time the cartridges (which were small in the first place), only came half full!

OK, so you didn''t come here to read about my issues with HP, although I think most people can empathize!

So, in looking for another printer, I looked for the following:

Scanner

Printer (Laser)

Networked (Wireless or Hardwired)

Reasonable Price (under $300)

Not an HP!

What I got in the main, exceeded my expectations. Granted I only got this today, but from unpacking to printing the first page, was an absolute breeze. It''s a lot smaller and lighter than I was expecting but quite a bit taller than my HP all-in-one.

I have multiple Windows machines (no Mac or Linux to test with right now) on my network, and each one picked up the printer during driver install first time. I downloaded the drivers directly from Brother so I had the latest ones, and I also ensured that after everything was running, I updated the firmware of the printer too. All this was done with ease.

The print quality is as you would expect from a laser printer, very clean and sharp. I especially like the duplex feature which allows printing on both sides. I even tried the multiple pages on one (4 to 1 in this instance with duplex), and it downsized the PDF file whilst keeping it still pretty readable. The warm up from sleep to print was pretty quick. I would say less than 10 seconds.

The build quality is pretty good. It''s not as solid as an Enterprise type laser printer, but what do you expect for $179!? I was a little worried about the scan cover only lifting 45 degrees (as mentioned in the first review), but it lifts way more than that (probably about 65 degrees), plus it has a vertical lift on the hinges so you can scan thick books etc. which is nice. I do agree with the other review, the spring loaded lid is brutal, so you need to be careful when lifting the lid, otherwise you could damage the hinges.

However, with that said, the scanning feature is not quite as nice as the HP one. I need to play with it a bit more, but there doesn''t appear to be a preview feature, and if you scan multiple pictures it doesn''t allow you create multiple files (because there is no preview feature).

All-in-all though, with the fact that you get a starter cartridge that will last quite a while (with no expiry!), this printer is an absolute bargain for $170. Given I would have had to replace my HP cartridges anyway, which would have been $70, you can understand why this is, in the long run, a very cost effective printer. With high yield toner cartridges that print about 2500 pages for $50, I can''t see me ever going back to an Inkjet.

In conclusion, don''t be put off by the Brother brand and their relative obscurity compared to HP, they''ve been around for a long time.

I''m dinging the product 1 star because of the lack of preview and multi-image in the scanning software, and the spring loaded lid. I''m hoping there is an alternative/remedy to this. But for that, it would be five stars.

Pros

Great printer, especially with duplex, and n to 1 printing

Fast print speed and nice quality

Scan and copy multiple documents using the auto feeder

Long lasting, non expiring toner cartridge (700 pages from the free one!)

Enclosed paper tray with pretty good capacity (250 sheets)

No large output tray sitting on the side of printer, output is almost enclosed in the middle of the printer

Not an HP! :)

Cons

Scanner software doesn''t have preview or the ability produce multiple images at once (that I can tell)

Brutal spring loaded scan cover

Not color (but wasn''t a requirement for me anyway)

No wireless (again not a big deal, but might be for some)

UPDATE (08/07/2011): I''ve found the preview feature! As I''m a bit of a computer geek, I generally switch software to "Advanced Mode" to gain more control over it. It seems this mode doesn''t show you previews which is a bit odd. However, by selecting "Home Mode", the preview is there. Granted the multi-image scan is still not there, but it''s still an improvement. FYI, the mode can be found under Configuration > Mode Select.

UPDATE (04/04/2012): So, just to let people know that I''ve had the printer for about 7 months, and just today, after printing 311 pages with the STARTER toner cartridge (with Toner Save OFF) that ships free with the unit, I got my first warning that the toner was low. Almost certainly if I had still had my HP printer, I would have gone through at least 2 or 3 of the colors, and the other ones would have probably expired and needed replacing, costing me about $10+ per cartridge. I am still incredibly happy with the print quality and the print options. It''s still lacking the killer option of multiple separate photo scans in a single pass, but frankly I''ve not had a lot of photos to scan in recent months, so do not miss it currently! Lastly, with the price drop to $129 (which it had been down to recently), it''s even more of a bargain than it was when I bought it.

With great sadness, I retired my HP LaserJet 5p after 17 years of great service. It finally died. I had fun taking it apart, but that''s another story. I was always happy with that printer, and the service I got from HP when I bought it was terrific. So my first choice was another HP Laser. I had a terrible Brother Laser printer prior to the HP. Plus, the HP never needs a drum replacement (the Brother''s drum is slated to last only 12,000 pages.)

However, I had heard recently from multiple sources that in recent years, HP had gone downhill in quality and service. And the reviews I read (and I read hundreds of them) overall gave better scores to Brother Lasers, which usually cost less than HP. So after weeks of research, I bought the DCP-7065 for only $179. The price dropped to $129 3 weeks later what a great deal! Now it is back to $156. Watch for sales!

Here is my review after owning this for almost a month.

Installation

It''s my first networked printer, and I was nervous. In about an hour, I unpacked it, set it up, followed the Quick Start instructions, and installed it on 1 desktop (vista) and 2 laptops (xp-pro). Success!

The only problems I encountered were needing to install the scanner software twice on the desktop, and the scanner software not installing on the laptops. I didn''t re-try when it failed on the laptops. Since I won''t scan from the laptops (only my desktop), it was a non issue to me. If I ever need to, I will try again to install it on the laptops. Since it installed on the second try after a re-boot on my desktop, I assume the same will be true for the laptops.

Now I can sit in bed on the first floor and print on the second floor. No more running out to the inkjet, connecting it to the laptop via USB, printing, disconnecting and returning to the living room or bedroom. Hooray.

Another note I have not downloaded the latest drivers and firmware yet (as other reviewers suggested), just used what was on the CD. I should, and will eventually, but so far it prints just fine.

Print Quality & Speed

It''s a Laser. Therefore, it has great print quality on the best setting. Eyeball test only I didn''t look with a magnifying glass or anything. With as cheap as toner is (even more so if you buy aftermarket toner cartridges), I am not going to use toner-save mode.

I printed a photograph, and it was OK, nothing special. I mean, this printer is not for photographs, but it will render graphics in black & white docs decently, not great. It is NOT a photo printer. Print your photos at Wal-Mart or some place like that. They will look great and be cheaper than printing at home, anyway.)

Speed? It is FAST! Love it!

Wireless connectivity

I had no problems connecting this through my router following the Quick Start Instructions, and all of our laptops can now print from anywhere in the house. This is my favorite thing about this printer.

I don''t know why anyone would need wi-fi instead of Ethernet, UNLESS you can''t physically place your printer near your router (it needs a CAT5 cable from the printer to the router). That is the only time that the Ethernet connection to a router would not suffice. Personally, I would not spend the extra money for 802.11 wi-fi (the MFC-7860 costs about $100 more than this printer ($180 vs. $280 at the time I purchased). Note the HL-5370DW ($180) is wireless, but does NOT have a copier/scanner, and also has lower ratings. For comparison purposes, HP has a wireless all-in-one laser printer with decent ratings, m1217nfw, for about $225.)

Duplexing

I don''t know how often I will use it, but it was easy to use and very fast. Very cool. I like it. I have not tried booklet printing yet.

Noise

Yes, it has a cooling fan that makes some noise. So what? All printers make noise. It didn''t seem any louder to me than any other printer. I didn''t even notice the fan was running until it cut off. It''s not a big deal to me, anyway, as it is in my office, not my bedroom. My HP DeskJet 6940 at work is much louder while printing (but since there is no cooling fan it makes zero noise after finishing.

Energy

Like some other reviewers said, it made my lights flicker when waking up from deep sleep mode. As long as it doesn''t blow a fuse, that is a minor annoyance that does not bother me much. Most of the time I am not in the same room as the printer anyway, since 90% of my printing is done from my laptop wirelessly. I chose to not hook it up via the same surge protector the computer was on. Straight to the wall instead. My house is only 20 years old, so I don''t have ancient wiring. This might be an issue for some people but not for me.

Some people like that the printer has an on/off switch. But since it goes into deep sleep mode when not in use, you will probably never turn the printer off (except for vacations). If you did turn it off, and you are printing wirelessly, you would need to go to the printer and turn it on before printing wirelessly defeating the purpose of a wireless printer!

Copying

I really like using the auto-feeder to make copies of multiple pages; what a time saver. Our all-in-one inkjet is just a flatbed, so you have to do one page at a time.

I wish there was a 1-button copy function. You have to hit a few buttons to get a photo-copy. It is a minor annoyance. Also, the settings are not easy to navigate, so you can end up wasting time and paper because a copy comes out too dark or too light. I''m not crazy about it as a copier, except for the ADF.

Is there a difference in copy quality between the flatbed and ADF? I can''t tell.

Scanning

As other Brother reviewers have mentioned, the scanner cover''s springs are tight, and if you are not careful, the cover will snap down hard, possibly breaking it sooner rather than later. I recommend using both hands to insure it closes gently.

Scanning photos I have not tried this yet (will update later)

OCR

This is a mixed bag. On the one hand, scanning in a 5 page document through the auto-feeder and having the OCR software scan it was fast and easy. A process that would have taken me more than 5 minutes on our Canon inkjet all-in-one took maybe 30 seconds on the Brother 7065.

Unfortunately, I HATE the included OCR software itself. It is really bad. It rendered almost every capital "I" as the number "1" and had many other errors as well. It does not give you the option to correct anything on the fly like OmniPage does. So the time saved on scanning was lost on manually finding and correcting errors. I will try installing OmniPage Pro 10, which I already own, and see if that works with this scanner. I do a lot of OCR scanning, so this is a real inconvenience for me. I am really hating this aspect so far.

Auto-document feeder.

Wonderful. Fast. So much better than a flatbed scanner. I like that the lid of the ADF can be closed when not in use, so it looks neater and doesn''t collect dust inside the feeder.

Toner & Drum Costs

I have not replaced the toner yet. I plan on buying compatible toner, which (almost always) worked fine with my HP. If I encounter any issues, I will come back and update this review. Even buying Brother brand toner, it will be cheaper than HP brand toner. But since there are plenty of generic toner sellers for both brands, I think this should be a wash. A genuine TN450 cartridge is about $42, and generic toner cartridges are between $15-20 on Amazon via many vendors.

If you plan on printing lots of pages (say, over 500 pages per month), consider buying an HP. The drum for the Brother needs to be replaced at 12,000 pages. The Brother brand drum is about $100, but the off-brand is about $30. I expect to go for several years before I need to replace the drum.

This printer comes with a TN420 cartridge (supposed to print 1200 pages). But alas, it is not filled all the way. It is a starter cartridge, and I got "toner low" messages after fewer than 500 pages.

It will give a "replace toner" message and stop printing, even though there is still toner in the cartridge. Apparently, all Brother Laser printers do this. See reviews of other printers they all have a convoluted work-around, but it is not easy to find it. See page 30 of the "Basic User''s Guide" to find out how to defeat the message and enable you to keep on printing until the toner is really gone. I could not find these instructions anywhere online at Brother''s web site, and since this is a newer printer, couldn''t find it via Google either. Brother''s web site simply says you should buy a new toner cartridge, and it has to be a genuine Brother cartridge.

UPDATE ON TONER (12/14/2011) I bought 2 generic replacement toner cartridges for about $13 each online via Amazon. The first leaked toner everywhere a complete mess. I got my money back from Amazon. The second one works fine. They are way cheaper than the Brother toner (which of course, is more reliable, if you want to spend the money.)

Update #2 on toner (8/6/2012)

I bought generic replacement toner from a different vendor, and this time it worked just fine. If you need to print something really nice, buy Brother toner. Otherwise, generic should be fine.

Build & other miscellaneous stuff

I like that the paper is enclosed in a drawer. I always hated the "paper stands up in the back of the printer" style that Canon and other companies use. Also, many HPs have the paper on the bottom in an open tray. I like the closed tray.

It comes with 32MB of RAM. That is great for a printer at this price point.

One annoyance you have to look at the LCD panel at just the right angle or you can''t read anything. Not a huge problem, but annoying.

Missing Cables True, it does not include a USB or Ethernet cable. But by 2011 everyone should have several of them somewhere in the house. If Brother included cables, the printer would cost more, and most of us don''t need them. This was not a negative for me. I would rather pay $5 less for the printer and use my own cable.

Documentation

The Quick Start guide was great. I like that it used real words. In proper English. Sometimes you get those assembly instructions with crudely drawn pictures and text that was written by some guy in China with a dictionary.

The printed "Basic User''s Guide" that comes with it does not include instructions about copy settings, duplex operation, scanning, and some other features. The same guide is used for the DCP-7060D, DCP-7065DN, and the HL2280DW). The full manual is on the disk that comes with the printer, and also online.

Tech Support

I have read good and bad comments about calling Tech Support. I have not had to call yet so I can''t comment. I did call to ask about the differences between the printer models, and after a brief hold period, was given accurate information by someone who spoke English.

Manual Paper Feed (Printing Envelopes, Labels, Card Stock and other stuff)

One thing I do NOT like is that you can only feed 1 piece of paper, envelope, etc. at a time in the manual feed slot. My 17-year-old HP LaserJet allowed you to stack a good amount of paper or envelopes in the manual feed slot.

Card Stock You can open the back door of the printer (called the rear output tray) so that it has a straight paper path. A working straight paper path is important for card stock and envelopes. If the back of your printer is not easily accessible, this will be a hassle. A few times it didn''t recognize that the card stock was in the manual feed slot just make sure you push it in straight and snug. It printed fine from the slot to the open back.

Update 9-19-12 After having printed more on card stock, I am not thrilled with the print quality on card stock. Not as clear as on thinner media. If that is a big deal for you, you might want to think about another printer.

Caution! don''t forget to close the back door when you are done with the straight paper path printing! I did and printed about 50 pages that fell all over the floor behind the printer! Not Brother''s fault definitely user error!

Envelopes UPDATE 12/14/11 Envelopes work just fine, although you can only feed one at a time. It did not make the adhesive stick, and it did not wrinkle the envelope like my HP did.

CD Labels UPDATE 12/14/11 Worked just fine. Again, you can only feed one at a time, but that is all I need to do.

Avery Labels UPDATE 12/14/11 Worked just fine. It didn''t peel them off, and it printed clearly. No problems at all. As with the other manual feeds, you can only feed one sheet at a time, but that is all I need to do.

Conclusion

This is the exact same machine as the MFC-7460DN except for the fax. I called Brother and they verified that is true. They had to put me on hold to find out, but they were friendly and helpful. If you don''t need a fax machine, this will save you about $70. $180 vs. $250. In the past, when I have needed to fax something, I have scanned the doc to a PDF and emailed it most of the time you can do that instead of a fax.

It''s hard to go wrong on a laser printer for $180 (currently $130 on sale at the time I am writing this) that prints and copies over 20 pages a minute, scans quickly, networks, duplexes, has an auto doc feeder, and has 32MB of RAM. Plus it has great reviews, just like the 7460DN.

If you need to print thousands of pages, get an HP, or one of the Brothers that has a 25K drum. If you absolutely must have a fax, this is not for you. If you need wi-fi instead of Ethernet wireless, move up to the 7860DW or check out the HP m1217nfw or M1536dnf which are both cheaper than the 7860. But for home or small office, this is a great buy (assuming that it lasts and doesn''t break down time will tell).

I love this printer, for the most part. I am only giving 4 stars instead of 5 because of the copying and scanning, and the hassle with the "low toner" messages. If Brother would fix those 2 things, I would give this 6 stars, if it were possible!

My only other concern is how long will this thing last? I don''t expect to get 17 years like my HP LaserJet 5P, but I want it to last a lot longer than the 1-2 years we''ve gotten out of every inkjet printer we''ve owned. Good luck!

Want Brother Printer DCP7065DN Monochrome Laser Multi-Function Copier Discount?

I was a long time HP printer advocate, but they''ve gone downhill -their software is truly horrible and the hardware remains expensive.

I''ve now switched our family and business over to Brother printers and they''re fantastic (we own 4 different ones). The 7065 has excellent print quality, duplex printing (a must have feature for me) and very nice scanning (fast too). The only thing I would like to see them improve would be to add support for scanning 2-sided originals. I had to write my own script to combine 2 separate scans, reversing pages and interleaving them to get the sides in the correct order.

OEM toner cartridges are reasonably priced and you can get 3rd party clones very cheaply. Please note that this model does not include FAX capability, I didn''t need it, but many people assume it is included.

Updated -I forgot to mention that the printer has very good Mac support, including the latest release Lion and great network printing support.

Ordered from Amazon at super-cheap price, including shipping. Easy to install, works perfectly. Love the duplex printing and scanning. Yeah, you have to flip your stack over to scan duplex who cares? I''m sure it makes the mechanism simpler and less likely to break, and it''s virtually no trouble to me. Comes with Paper Port, which I adore. OEM cartriges reasonably priced. Brother Black High Yield Toner Cartridge (TN450) I''m a happy camper!

Edited to add a couple of caveats and a slightly lower rating.

Price shop! The Amazon price as I type this is significantly more than I paid, and I saw this printer recently in a brick-and-mortar store for significantly less than I paid.

I had a heck of a time when I replaced the cartridge with an OEM, I might add.

It didn''t want to reset the page counter, or toner sensor, or whatever tells it there''s a new cartridge, and I had to turn off cartridge sensing to get it to print. I saw no reason for this to happen with an OEM cartridge, so I spent a significant amount of time with customer service, repeatedly following the steps I had already followed (and I told them so), and being forced to provide my name, address, and phone number, only to be finally provided a 15-second fix consisting of a series of door openings and button pressings, information that they apparently guard like Fort Knox as they refused to give it to me via web chat I had to call on the phone and jump through their hoops all over again.

I don''t have the secret combination with me right now, but I do have it and I''m going to post it here. I''m also going to try to find out the meaning of the other codes (my code was #12) and disseminate them stuff like this annoys me.

The hoops I had to jump through with the OEM cartridge is the reason I lowered the rating to four stars those people took up many dollars worth of my time when they could have just ascertained I had an OEM cartridge (they asked me for the serial number at least three times) and given me the code. The printer has been functioning very nicely, but the experience I went through with customer service is downright unbelievable, especially considering it concerned an *OEM* cartridge that the printer refused to recognize.

Here''s what you have to do to reset the page counter, or the toner sensor, or whatever makes it detect the toner:

open cover

press clear

["replace drum?" is displayed]

press start

press up arrow to #12

press OK

["accepted" is displayed]

I''d love to know what #1 through #11 do.....!

Further disappointment the high-yield toner says it should be good for 2,600 copies. My page count shows 1,500 don''t know if that''s for just the new cartridge or includes the starter as well, but in either case it is not good that it''s already showing I should order another cartridge! The heck with it I''m getting a non-OEM this time. Compatible Brother TN450 Toner Cartridge for Brother MFC 7360N 7460DN 7860DW / HL 2220 2230 2240 2240D 2270DW 2280DW Printers Black This one has only one review, but it''s by a real-name, Amazon-verified purchaser with a lot of other reviews, so I thought it was the best choice of what was available. (Update: It has a lot more reviews now, including mine the reviews are mixed, but my experience has been great. I buy mine from Linkyo apparently it makes a difference.)

It''s too bad for Brother I probably would have stuck with the OEM cartridges for longer if I hadn''t had the annoyance and if the high-yield cartridge hadn''t said I had to order another less than two weeks after being installed.....

Adding a couple more caveats.

The OEM, supposedly high-yield cartridge is used up, much sooner than I had expected. I''m not sure it lasted even as long as the starter cartridge. The non-OEM I just put in, link above, seems to work just fine so far.

Try to think before you hit print, which I''m having trouble learning to do it remembers your last number of prints (haven''t found a way to stop it from doing that and reset to one), and I''ve lately spent a lot of time lunging for the "stop" button when I wanted one and it printed 14.

HP LaserJet 1200 - Printer

HP LaserJet 1200 - Printer - B/W - laser - A4 - 1200 dpi x 1200 dpi - up to 15 ppm - capacity: 260 sheets - Parallel, USB

  • Print, copy and scan capabilities

We''ve owned a Laserjet 1200 for six years now, and have yet to have any real problem with it. It''s a powerful workhorse that handles many printing tasks without difficulty. Even when the neighborhood power died and it stopped printing with paper caught in it, this printer unjammed without a hitch. The manual is also easily accessible online as a PDF. Pair it with the ultraprecise toner cartridge for great results.

I had this same model printer for years and was very satisfied with it. After 10 years and well over 100,000 pages printed my first one gave out.

I bought a new printer and had more problems with it in one month than I did the HP 1200 in 10 years. I wish HP still made this printer. It is a big slower than the new models, but it is very reliable and I would gladly give up a little speed for the increased reliability.

This model is also slightly bigger than the newer ones, but not by very much.

I especially like the way it pulls the paper up. With paychecks you put them in face up and it is easier to have them print in order.

Gotta love this beast, it just keeps going, not finicky about drivers, you don''t even have to install anything on a new Mac OS. The one I used at work died, but slowly, I knew it was going out, no sudden "Oh, my printer''s just died" more like "Hey Boss, I''m going to need a new printer sometime soon" and this was after a long and productive life.

While HP''s inkjets vary in quality and durability, it has a well-deserved reputation for long-lasting, robust laser printers. This printer is superb! I

t''s very fast, largely hassle-free, and quickly pays for itself. The toner is expensive, but some comparison shopping online can usually yield a decent price. Note that there is a regular and a high-capacity toner, and the latter is usually the better deal per page.

The printer handles most types of paper with no problem. I''ve had very few jams. There is only one button on the entire unit and it''s shockingly all you need. The printer remains on at all times unless you want to unplug it after each use. The printer accommodates all paper sizes up to 8.5" wide and 14" long. One tip to avoid jams: If you use the feeder to input special paper, pull the paper out of the slot. Otherwise, the printer may try to feed paper from both simultaneously.

I''ve had this printer for nearly a decade with almost no problems. Highly recommended!

Ultimately it/s about being recognised by the computer reliably (I have now dumped Windows XP (the virus crash monster on a Dell laptop) for OSX on an iMac G5a lot less temperamental with *forgotten* printers); cheap page cost (about the lowest of HP/s stable approx 1 cent us per page versus 4 cents us for a 1012 or 1100); and speed/quality (true 1200dpi at 35ppm).

Okit/s big and heavy, a bit noisy, yet superfast, with many options for autoduplexing/stapling etc. 2 months in, am very happy with this printer. Did upgrade a jetdirect connectivity for USB etc.. at about $100us

  • Each box contains enough ink & prints sheets for 120 prints

In my company, at times need to take many passport pictures and this Fuji IP-10 System has worked well. It is the simple, and small passport camera connected by cable to the printer. Within three minutes of notification, I can have the camera/printer set up, take the picture and print the picture for the customer. It is a good system. The printer is very fragile, so please treat it with high respect and don''t drop it. The "film" or "ink" is not available at the local store. You must purchase this F-RP120P box which contains both ink and paper. So, if you keep the camera and small printer in a box and have it ready to go, it is a great passport picture system. I also purchased the 2"x2" cutter that is availabe at Amazon to cut the pictures to the proper size. By the way, the camera as a clear plastic overlay that attached to the LCD image on the camera to help you fit the subject properly to get the correct size. A good system to have on hand.

  • Measures 20.9 x 20.5 x 21 inches (WxHxD)

I have waited many many years for the perfect all in one COLOR LASER....and this is it + more! I bought mine from a local store and have had it about a week. It comes in a huge box, but don''t worry, this MFC is large but not too large compared to the other Brother mono laser all-in-ones (of which I have owned three over the years). The print quality is EXCELLENT and very fast for full color (21 pages per minute). My only initial concern was that it creased envelopes when printing on envelopes......but after consulting the manual there are fuser tension adjustment switches that solves that for perfect envelope printing (Settings, A, B and Envelope). I had compared many all-in-one color laser machines for many years (including recent ones from Xerox and HP). I was surprised that HP hadn''t come out with a great, feature rich one yet. Brother beat HP to the punch and it is a knockout for sure. I am replacing a higher end Minolta color laser with flatbed scanner, a Brother MFC mono, and an HP mono workhorse with this ONE MFC-9840CDW!!! I am very very picky with print quality but this one is great! Bonus features are built-in duplex scanning, duplex printing, and wireless network capability! The replacement supply costs are also very reasonable and lower than most of the other color laser brands. Brother truly has a winner on its hand with the MFC-9840CDW!!! Thank you Brother....I LOVE IT!

My wife is an em elementary school teacher, and she gets limited numbers of copies for each term. She also has a great deal of worksheets and other papers that take up a lot of room and make finding a particular worksheet very hard. We came up with a plan: All of her documents would be scanned into a PDF with management software, and she would be able to make copies for her classroom when she ran out at work. We wanted a color laser printer with network scanning and duplexing and had looked at all the different solutions but were bummed to find that many of the scanners only supported printing from Apple computers and not scanning to them. Some had the options to scan to e-mail, but the documentation on these features were very limited.

After looking around at an HP model and a Canon model we decided to look at what Brother had to offer. We were pleased when we saw the specs and features on this model. The best feature was its Mac support which was very extensive. In fact, this was the only model in our search that had equal support for both Mac computers and Windows computers.

I found that the software on the Mac and its Windows counterparts were written fairly well. On the Macs that run 10.5 we had to get an updated TWAIN driver for scanner control, but that was the only small issue we had. You can walk up to the scanner, scan to the computer in the other room over WiFi or even save a scan to your Flash drive by plugging it directly into the front. It is very handy. The scan quality was on par with what I expected. I wouldn''t use it for high-end photo scanning, but an occasional family picture scan here or there, especially for web distribution will be just fine with it.

The print quality was also very nice. Even on cheaper paper the colors were vibrant and not splotchy at all. Text was crisp and print times were more than acceptable. I was getting about 20ppm both in color and black and white once the unit was warmed up. Slightly slower than the 21ppm claim, but the pages were also more than 5% covered which is likely where they get that number.

Faxing is somewhat convoluted compared to other all-in-one devices. After a few blank test faxes though, the steps were easy enough to remember and it does a superb job for those occasional fax jobs that we require.

Pros:

*Great Mac and Windows Support

*Software is easy to use and works well

*Scanning quality is very high

*Many scanning options including direct to flash drive

*Great color printing

*Great B&W printing

*Wireless networking is very nice and works reasonably well

*Toner reasonably priced

*Real duplexing for scanning and printing

Cons:

*Faxing function is slightly convoluted

*Scan to email doesn''t seem to work with Gmail or Google Apps domains and the required authentication schemes

*Software and drivers don''t appear to be downloadable from Brother''s website, so hold onto those CDs that come with it

*All networking functions are off by default

*Some features lack thorough documentation and require a certain level of trial and error mixed with technical skill to complete successfully

*Color scanning can be slightly time consuming, especially over the wireless network to a computer

Overall thoughts:

Overall this printer was worth every penny. Hundreds cheaper than similar models, and it provides great Mac support. For simple printing from a Mac, no software or drivers needed to be installed. The software was only for scanning and other advanced features. My wife has scanned in hundreds of pages already. I must say, I truly love this printer.

I just got this machine to replace two others a month ago in my home office an HP inkjet all-in-one 6310xi, and a Brother laser printer HL-1870n.

This new unit is superior in just about every way.

The print quality is much higher than on the HP. In B&W it is similar to the old brother laser.

The print speed is out of this world, especially for color. The inkjet could take minutes per page for letter-size photo prints. This one doesn''t seem to take any longer than for other prints, amazingly ! This is no doubt thanks to its 128 MB of memory. I was thinking about upgrading the RAM, but there just isn''t any need to do that at all !

Copies are also spectacular, just as fast as any photocopier. The HP all-in-one could take several minutes per page in the highest quality in color, and typically at least a minute even for high-quality black & white. And of course the quality is much better.

Scanning speed is also great. It is really measured in pages per minute, not minutes per page.

The ADF duplex scanning is invaluable.

The bundled software (Paperport) is also very reliable and far superior to the bloated crap that came with the HP.

Despite its size, this unit actually saves office space compared to having two separate inkjet color and black & white laser units.

Photo prints are very good. I have noticed some yellowing compared to the inkjet prints. But I am confident it''s possible to adjust this in software and make the photo prints just as good as the inkjet. I just haven''t had time to fiddle with it yet.

The unit is not perfect, but nearly so. There are a couple things that I wish were improved :

The ADF is limited to A4/letter size. For legal size documents, you must use the glass scanner. This is my biggest regret about the machine. If I could I would give 4.99 stars because of it instead of 5.

It weighs 85 lbs, actually 115 lbs with all the packaging. With the packaging, it was too large to fit through my stairs. I had to remove it all first. And if I didn''t have a roommate, I would not have been able to bring it to the 2nd floor. I wish there was a printer with all these features at less than 50 lbs packaged. Or perhaps Brother could deliver it in 2 separate parts to assembler (let''s say, printer unit and scanner unit) in 2 smaller boxes, so one person alone could move it and set it up.

It doesn''t work with glossy inkjet photo paper. That paper just melts and half the sheets come out pink. I had to sell all my Costco photo paper with the HP inkjet, and buy new special laser photo paper (HP branded) that worked great. I wish I had known about this requirement before the purchase.

Want Brother MFC-9840CDW Laser Multifunction Center Discount?

So many good things were already said. I just want to add a few things I learned while using the product over the last few months:

Only one job can happen at the same time. While you print you cannot scan or fax no matter how much memory you have.

Reviews often state that the printer has only medium color printing quality. The printer is great but the PCL driver is not. Use the Postscript driver instead, which is a little bit slower, and you get results, which I would say are similar to HP. The difference is amazing.

Scanning works perfectly. I use it to do editing on print-outs and then scan it in, and send it back to the publisher. I also use it to archive hardcopy documents. It is very fast with 400 DPI b/w scanning. The feeder pulls the paper sometimes not totally straight.

You can use standard notebook memory to increase memory. It eats old 100 Mhz SO-DIMM in up to 512MB size.

It takes a while to warm-up. Both when printing and scanning. It makes the light flicker when it warms up. It works well on a shared 15A circuit so.

I love the iFAX feature. I can send a fax, have the printer convert it to a TIFF, and send it directly out via a SMTP server without needing a extra computer. I use for sending stuff to an Oracle ERP archiving system. (It can also convert to PDF.)

It also can scan and send a document to FTP or via the Control Center to a PC or save to local USB flash. You can remote control the functions of the printer via pre-sets on the Control Center app.

It faxes and copies in b/w and color. Quality of copies is good and very fast when you use the document feeder. It appears to be faster then the small copy machines at my local copy shop.

I love that the printer both has a duplex document feeder and can also prints duplex (or scans, faxs, copies duplex).

Consumables are more expensive than for instance in a HP laser printer. However, the purchasing price of the Brother is unbeatable.

Bottom line is that this product is as good as it gets in a multi-functional printer. After using it for a couple of months I am asking myself how I ever could have lived with out it. No more trips to the copy shop and savings for express mail.

These seem to be great machines when they work. Unfortunately, ours doesn''t. The machine generates random vertical streaks of yellow and cyan across printed pages. Solid colors are often printed as blotchy and uneven. Brother tech support has acknowledged that they are having these type of problems with this particular model. We''ve tried changing print cartridges (twice) and the problem still exists.

It''s now been 6 weeks since we first reported the problem and still no resolution from Brother. Escalations have been met with promises of call backs followed by silence. Emails to support go unanswered. It appears that Brother products and support are hits and misses. In this particular case, all misses.

This little letter opener works great. I gave to my father who suffered a stroke and has difficulty opening mail. He loves it. It takes up little space on his multi-use table, he can use it with one hand, and it''s plenty powerful for most mail/junk mail.

That''s what ran through my head when I bought this, "Do I really need this?". Am I actually to lazy to tear open an envelope? Well the answer is no, but when your a small business owner you often get important documents in the mail, and that is what led me to purchase this opener.

You can open multiple letters much more quickly than you would by hand, with much less risk of damaging the documents inside, and the blade is well hidden behind the thick sturdy plastic to help prevent chances of injury. I laughed a bit, due to how well concealed the cutting blade is in this little gadget, when I saw all of the warnings telling people not to intentionally stick their fingers into the cutting mechanism. Let''s put it this way; to get to that blade you are pretty determined to do so, because it''s not going to happen accidentally!

I purchased this printer as a gift for our family for Christmas. We have not owned a printer in 8 years but instead depended on printing at work or emailing documents or taking pictures to Walgreens or Walmart for printing.

After owning several inkjet printers in schools and always being frustrated at the tremendous waste in the cartridges clogging and drying out due to very intermittent use and having to be replaced at great expense this printer has seemed to make a good compromise.

It is perhaps a bit overkill for home use, but it integrated like a charm in our combination wired and wireless home network using both Windows and OS X machines. And we love the duplexing.

I would recommend it to anyone looking for a durable and convenient home network printer.

I have owned this printer for over a year. It produces excellent and professional looking copies. I have received numerous compliments on the brochures and pieces printed by it. On the negative side, its reproduction of pictures in the enhanced photo mode often causes jams, especially when using photo laser paper. However, again once copied the finished product is very good. However, be warned that the replace ink cubes are outrageously expensive. I discovered this quickly as I needed to purchase new cubes after less than 1000 copies. As I shopped around for the best price, I was able to purchase a complete dual set of cubes for close to $500. They cost more than the printer. On these cubes I am running about 1500 per cube. As I check prices out now, you are lucky to find a complete set at less than $550. In hind site, though I love the quality of the reproductions and the eco-friendly factor, I would not purchase it. If Xerox could find a way to produce the ink at a more reasonable price, than I would highly recommend this product. But not now!

Epson Stylus CX7000F All-in-One Printer (C11C676001)

Epson Stylus CX7000F All-in-One Printer
  • Epson Stylus CX7000F - Multifunction ( color ) - ink-jet
  • High-speed color faxing-as fast as 3 seconds per page using the 33.6 Kbps modem
  • PC-free printing from memory cards or PictBridge(TM)-enabled cameras and mobile phones

So frustrating.

I am on my 2nd replacement printer (my 3rd CX7000F in all) and it, too, DOES NOT work. This model will tell you a brand new ink cartridge needs to be replaced. I wasted a couple extra hundred dollars on more ink, because I thought the cartridge that came from the store was used. Then I learned that this is an Epson problem.

I will be calling tech support again on Monday. This saga has been ongoing since May. (It''s July). I appreciate Epson sending me replacement printers, but since they don''t work, it''s of no use. I don''t know who is doing the manufacturing, but they have screwed up a component. Too bad for Epson, because I will never buy another one of their printers again.

DO NOT BUY!!!!

I purchased the CX7000F printer as I already own the RX500 printer and was very satisfied with it. After receiving the printer and downloading the drivers from Epson that supposedly would work with my Vista Home Premium operating system, I attempted to load the drivers. The printer driver installed without a hitch and works fine. The scanner driver, however, would not install and I have spent over 2 hours with Epson on the phone to no avail. They advised me it wasn''t their problem and that I should reload the operating system. The scanner and fax both work fine as a standalone, but I can''t access them through the computer. To make matters worse, I have only had the unit for about 2 weeks and have only printed a few black and white documents from MS Word and from the internet and my ink levels are down to 36% for all four cartridges. At this point it is my intention to consider it a lesson learned and to return the unit within the 30 day window.

If I could rate this negative stars I would. Absolutely the worst printer/piece of office equipment I''ve EVER owned or worked with (and I''ve worked with a lot).

1) It either will not print or it jams. I''d say my jam to print ration is 50:1. Staggeringly awful odds when the main function of a printer is to, you know, print. This is by far my biggest gripe, as it is not even performing its most basic of functions.

2) ...if it even responds at all. For inexplicable reasons, sometimes it just sits there with pending documents, fully ignoring any commands given to it.

3) Be prepared to blow your life savings on ink. I printed 4 test pages when I was setting it up, because they kept coming out funny. After those FOUR TEST PAGES my ink was 80-90% GONE. I was so furious I called Epson, and, to their benefit, they did send me a replacement ink set. But they won''t every time, so dig deep into your wallet because (if you can get it to print) you''ll be putting down $60 a month on ink alone.

If your main purpose for this printer is pictures, then especially beware. You''ll probably get 4 4x6''s before needing new cartridges.

4) LINUX USERS BEWARE. The only function that works with Linux is the printing aspect. The scanner does not work with Linux. It did work fine on Windows, though the software is incredibly limited and the scanning is slow.

If you want to ignore this review and most others, then be prepared for many a late night pulling our hair out and pulling mangled paper out of the inner-workings of this "printer," spending $60 a month on ink and generally being incredibly frustrated and poor. A truly awful, awful piece of equipment, unfortunately.

I got this printer for free when I bought a new laptop. It seemed like an excellent deal-getting it for free. NOT SO! I have to replace the ink cartridges CONSTANTLY (all FOUR of them even though I almost never print in color). I spend so much in ink cartridges that I''m going to buy a whole new printer and am confident that I will SAVE money doing so.

Further, it doesn''t give you a warning or allow you to print your documents with "reduced quality" when the ink gets low-It simply quits printing until you buy a new cartridge and replace it. Not a pleasant surprise when you are pressed for time. Makes it completely unreliable.

This printer is a fine printer. It seems like it uses a lot of ink the first time through, but the product warns of that mentioning that it uses a lot of ink to prime the system.
