Prior personal lasers (all HP)4ML, 5L, 1100, 1012 before this workhorse 4200. Superceded by 4300 recently (HP refresh 70% of printer range every 2 years!)so some mega discounts availableI paid only $350 US new with 2 rebates!

Ultimately it/s about being recognised by the computer reliably (I have now dumped Windows XP (the virus crash monster on a Dell laptop) for OSX on an iMac G5a lot less temperamental with *forgotten* printers); cheap page cost (about the lowest of HP/s stable approx 1 cent us per page versus 4 cents us for a 1012 or 1100); and speed/quality (true 1200dpi at 35ppm).

Okit/s big and heavy, a bit noisy, yet superfast, with many options for autoduplexing/stapling etc. 2 months in, am very happy with this printer. Did upgrade a jetdirect connectivity for USB etc.. at about $100us
