A week ago I bought my first-ever Apple product, a New iPad, having used PC''s since 1987. On Monday I installed a new modem and router and 46" Samsung Smart TV for the facilitation work I do in my conference room, used the setup for 2 meetings on Tuesday, and today, Friday, installed this wireless printer. My goal: to be able to facilitate the meetings with my iPad using the TV instead of big sticky note paper and markers, and print the reports and hand them to attendees at the end of the meeting. I just wireless-printed my first set of documents from the HP 6600 with my iPad, viewing it from the TV -this is so cool! It works! I would give it 5 stars except for the fact that I''ve only used it once with my iPad -no "track record," so to speak, yet. The setup and installation for the 6600 was easy and I''ll use it with both my iPad and my 5-year-old Sony laptop. I''ve used and trusted HP laser and inkjet printers since the early ''90s, so I''m looking forward to a similar great experience with this printer.

**Edit, 5/29/12: I''ve been using this printer almost exclusively now since I bought it. It prints envelopes with no problem, something I have always had to fight with my HP Officejet J5780 All-In-One to do consistently. It does everything I want it to do. I''m now giving it 5 stars.

We purchased this printer to replace a Canon Pixma that finally bit the dust after an epic paper jam.

Set-up was amazingly quick and easy. Our Brother and Canon printers seemed to take a good hour.

The printer is bigger than our Canon and appears more substantial. The menu display on the machine is colorful, sharp, and easy to read. While printing is a bit noisier than our previous printer, I don''t think it is loud enough to be an issue. The printer seems fast and print quality is excellent. This machine seems very user-friendly.

Printing from the iPad is easy, you just email the document or pic to the printer''s own email address. It usually starts the print job less than a minute after you send it.

We have not tried the fax or scanner utilities yet, so I can''t comment on those.

The only con I can think of is the printer ink price, which is a lot more than what we paid for Canon ink. We frequently bought generic ink for the Canon, which saved a lot of $. As this printer is new, there are no generic ink equivalents that I have seen. Hopefully, this will happen soon. Until then, we''re forced to use genuine HP ink. You may want to keep this in mind if you''ll be doing a very high volume of printing. Considering the quality and the impression that it should last a number of years, I think our moderate use of the printer is worth the ink cost.

Update 8/11/12

Well, we have been using this printer very light to moderate over the past three months and it just developed a "Missing or Failed Printhead" error and refuses to print. We are waiting for response from HP customer service via email. In the meantime, I''m knocking my review down to 3 stars. :(

Update 8/25/12

After working with HP customer service through email it was determined the printer head failure was a hardware problem and they offered to replace the printer. We found it quicker to take it back to the store and have it exchanged. The new one is working fine so far. In the meantime, knocking our rating up to 4 stars.

I ordered this to replace an old HP 5500 that quick working after many years of service. This printer was much faster than my old printer and provides good printed pages. The scanner is very fast. All at a good price for my home office.

Normally, I buy stuff in brick and mortar when it''s urgent and I check on amazon about the reviews before I pick it up. I did not do so this time as I had a "scan emergency" at my new place and needed to get something digital to someone fast, like that day. So I went to my local Best Buy and didn''t go online to check reviews. I should have. Printer blows like a fan. I''ve been using it intermittently to print for about 2 months, nothing heavy-duty, and I''m already out of black ink. "WTF," you say? Well, it gets better: I''m out of black ink and order a cartridge from Amazon.com. I mainly need it to print b&w documents anyway, not color. I pop in the black in and start printing b&w only papers..."ding!" I''m out of yellow. I''m like, "wait, what?" I''d only been printing black, how can I have depleted yellow? Oh, and guess what: I can''t print b&w without the yellow cartridge getting replaced now. And the cartridges, lemme tell you, are NOT cheap.

I had an HP printer once before: you could print with that thing until the b&w printouts were grayer than my grandmother''s hair. Only when YOU decided you''d hit the wall in terms of readability did you have to get a new printer.

I''m going to try to take it back to BBY now. I don''t do one-star reviews often, but avoid this and other HP printers at all costs!

Bought the HP6600e about 10 days ago and it has been just great to use. Wireless sets up in a breeze and so do connections for fax. Runs great, no paper jams (like my previous printer that I wouldn''t recommend to my worst enemy). I was able to connect it to my laptop and to my smartphone also extremely easily. Worth every penny

For many years I had been using the Avery 8879 Clean Edge Glossy Business Cards. For some reason Avery decided to discontinue that model and promote a number of models that did not work nearly as well (ragged edges). I suspect they were trying to move customers to the 8 cards/page products and away from the 10 cards/page 8879. I contacted Avery to complain about the quality of the new products and check on their 100% guarantee, but was given the runaround by them, asking for a bunch of personal information and promising to call me back at my home number. Way too much work for a simple return, so I went looking for alternatives.

There aren''t many good alternatives out there for a glossy true clean edge business card, so I was happy to find this one. The cost is a bit on the high side, but I gave it a try anyway. The glossy paper quality is quite good, although just a bit on the lightweight side. The cards separate nicely from the backing paper, but there''s a trick to doing that without bending the cards: place the sheet upside down on the desk and slowly peel the backing paper away from the cards, holding down the cards with one hand. That will fairly quickly separate the cards. Doing it the other way (peeling cards away from the sheet) will cause slightly bent cards, and is slower to boot. I print right to the edges on these cards with no problems, getting 25% more cards per sheet than I can with Avery''s inferior 8-up "print to the edge" glossy cards.

  • Get more for your money original HP cartridges ensure that your printing is right the first time and every time
  • Rely on HP for consistent, high-quality resolution
  • HP 940 inks are optimized for use with HP Advanced Photo Papers
  • Cartridge yield: approx. 1,000 pages Black, 900 Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow

(#1 Hall OF FAME REVIEWER)There''s nothing wrong with this cartridge, compatible with the HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 printers. Except that it''s rated for only 900-1000 pages. For only a little more you can get the larger 940XL set. Why did buy this set then? Because I didn''t pay attention.

The 900-1000 pages rating is based on HP''s testing methodology meaning that it''s highly unlikely that you will get 1000 pages out of your cartridge unless all you do is print plain text. If you make copies, if you print photos, if you use the high quality settings you are going to run out of ink much sooner.

HP claims (couldn''t verify) that using Officejet inks on papers with the ColorLok logo the output will retain color quality ''for decades''. Such an ink/paper combination, according to HP, will produce documents that resist water and fading.

Which one to order? At the time I wrote this review I got more value by far with the larger cartridge but this set should be okay if you are not a heavy user.

I''m not sure what that other reviewer got but I can say that I received genuine HP packaging and genuine 940 B/W and Color cartridges. My HP officejet Pro 8500 had no trouble recognizing the ink. Even the printer read and identified the cartridge sensor as being a genuine HP cartridge. So far so good.

THESE INK CARTRIDGES ARE ADVERTISED AS "IN RETAIL PACKAGING", EVEN THE PICTURE SHOWN ON AMAZON IS NOT THE TRUTH!. THEY ARE NOT IN RETAIL PACKAGING!

Epson PictureMate Snap 4x6 Photo Printer

Epson PictureMate Snap 4x6 Photo Printer
  • Print a brilliant 4x6 photo in as fast as 45 seconds* with vibrant color and amazing detail.
  • With a 2.5" LCD, easily crop and enhance photos, remove red eye and much more -- no computer needed!
  • Beautiful glossy or matte prints last generations longer than traditional film-processed photos.
  • Enjoy smudge, scratch, water and fade resistant prints you''ll be proud to share.
  • Print stacks of lab quality photos at an everyday low price -- it''s an unbeatable value for superior photos

I just puchased the PictureMate Flash which is the same as the Snap except it has a built in CD burner. After corresponding with Epson I will probably be returning the Flash. According to Epson Web Support the new PictureMates have gone back to using dye based inks and use 4 color inks. I quote from Mark A of the Epson Connection "The new PictureMates, which includes the Flash all use dye based inks and are four color".

Epson now advertises about the prints from the new PictureMates in the following way "Best of all, prints from PictureMate Snap will last generations, and longer than traditional, film-processed photos. Each print is smudge, scratch, water and fade resistant for convenient, worry free handling."

Whereas the replaced PictureMate Deluxe used 6 color inks that according to Epson are "Then, print using superior 6-color archival pigment inks, for photos that will stay brilliant for years longer than any other digital printing option. In fact, they outlast traditional film-processed photos as much as 2-4 times longer. And, they last longer than prints from other dedicated 4" x 6" photo printers by as much as 25 times¹. All this, and they''re even water and smudge-proof for worry-free handling."

In short the older PictureMate Deluxe used 6 color pigment ink that is "water and smudge-proof for worry-free handling" while the new PictureMates use 4 dye inks which are "smudge, scratch, water and fade resistant for convenient, worry free handling".

The older PictureMate prints are claimed to be "water and smudge-proof" the new PictureMate prints are "smudge.. and water resistant".

Is this a big deal, I think it is. If your like me, I like to display my pictures on the refrigerator and show them around at the dinner table when we go out to eat. No longer are the pictures water proof and dye inks fade quicker in the sunlight then do pigmented inks.

In the past when Epson printers were the only pigmented ink 4X6" photo printers I would recommend them hands down over the dye ink printers because of the permanence of the prints, now Epson has gone back to dye inks and 4 colors. I would check out other manufactures before buying an Epson portable snap shot printer because many of the other manufactures offer more conveniences such as printing both 5"X7" and 4"X6" and now offer as good if not better picture quality.

The PicureMate Deluxe as of today December 15, 2006 is still offered by Epson on line with an instant rebate bringing the price to $89.99 an excellant buy for an excellant printer.

The Epson PictureMate Deluxe with its 6 pigmented inks produced great color long lasting sharp prints. My wife loves the simplicity and ease of use and the GREAT pictures the PictureMate Deluxe produces. If you want great prints that won''t fade easily in daylight get one of the PictureMate Deluxes before they are gone.

In favor of the new PictureMate Snap and Flash they are said to have the ability to take red eye out without using a computer, a nice feature if you are using your flash on a point and shoot camera to take pictures.

I have not tested this feature on my new Flash and it would be interesting to know if anyone has experience using the red eye removal feature.

I have given the new PictureMates a 3 rating because I now find them to be on average with other comparable printers, unlike the predecessor PictureMate Deluxe which I would rate as a 5 because its pigmented ink was far superior over other manufactures using dye inks.

I''ve had this printer for almost a month and just love it. I''ve already printed over 130 photos on it and they look great. The things I like about this printer are:

-small & light (I took it to my parents one day and printed out photos we took right there and then for them.)

-can print 3 ways: directly from printer with memory card, by attaching the camera to it or hooking up the printer to the computer

-great quality prints

-allows you to add borders and print wallet size photos

-print packs come with paper and ink so you are not running out of one or the other

This is a great printer for scrapbookers since you can print the photos you need right away. I use it to print pictures of my son that I send to family and friends.

The only negative experience I had with this printer was after I used the intial cartridge that came with it and replaced it with a new one. The first few pictures I printed came out with lines so I had to clean the print heads. I ended up having to clean them 3 times in a row before it started printing correctly. I was a little disappointed since at that time I had only used it for 2 days and printed about 20 photos on it. I haven''t had any issues since and I''ve printed quite a bit on it and plan to do alot more. This is a great little printer that prints excellent quality prints.

It is easy to use and produces good output but it has one fault that may be a deal killer for some. It does not recognize SD cards of over 1 GB. I thought it was DOA when it wouldn''t recognize my SD card, so I called Tech Support. They said that that''s just the way it is. This "feature" wasn''t mentioned in any reviews or writeups. Who wants to limit themselves to 1 GB cards anymore? I won''t return it because who knows what undocumented "features" the competition has but I''m not real happy!

While technology usually improves while getting cheaper Epson manages to degrade their product line. Currently Amazon makes Epson''s previous model available, and it costs less. The previous model, titled PictureMate Deluxe uses a more complex ink system and the prints last longer. The current unit makes decent prints, but sadly, they are inferior to the discontinued line. This is a great product, in all forms, but while Epson has been busy finding ways to cheapen their product, the competition is printing 5x7''s. Why has Epson gone backwards?

I am a digital photo junkie in addition to taking tons of photos I use several programs to edit them before I print. The problem I have is that the ones I end up printing are for special projects or large format, and I don''t have many regular 4x6 photos around. My older Epson Stylus Photo R300 prints great photos, but just takes too long to be printing out 4x6''s for photo albums. In the end I have literally thousands of pictures that just sit on my hard drive.

Then along comes this PictureMate Snap that I just received for my birthday. It''s perfect for those everyday pictures! Just pop in the disk, select the photos and press print.. out come high quality prints in a Snap! No computer no software needed completely portable. It''s like turning my digital camera into a Polaroid.

I was doubly impressed with the extra features on it, not only a viewer but the ability to zoom, crop, red-eye, add borders, turn to BW or Sepia with a few button clicks. It has a handle for carrying and is very lightweight.

I don''t plan to use this with my computer since I have two other Epson printers already. I would highly recommend this for anyone with a digital camera. The only drawback I found so far is that the print packs are hard to find in local stores, and you''ll want to get one right away because the supplied pack will only print about 20 photos. I expect that the longer the Snap is on the market, the easier the packs will be to find. I like that they come with paper and ink for a set number of photos.

Overall a great product!

Quality Park Laser/Inkjet Envelopes (11184) Save 16% off

Quality Park Laser/Inkjet Envelopes, #10, 24lb, White, 500/Box
  • White 4 1/8 x 9 1/2 business envelope with a 24-lb. paper stock features a printer heat-resistant adhesive closure.
  • Flap adhesive withstands printer heat.
  • Wove finish.
  • Traditional seam construction: print on the front or the back.

I purchased these envelopes for use in an HP OfficeJet. They worked fine if I only printed an outgoing address. However, I wanted to print a return address in the upper left corner, and this caused lots of problems -type lines askew, wrinkled envelopes, and paper jams. Apparently the printer cannot feed envelopes well if you want to print near the top corner. This may be a failing of the printer more than a failing of the envelope itself. The paper quality of the envelopes is good.

Brother QL-1050 Wide Format PC Label Printer
  • Four-inch wide print head
  • Prints up to 66 labels per minute (for standard, four-line address labels)
  • 300 dpi resolution
  • Windows and Mac USB interface
  • Serial interface for ESC/P and ASCII input

This printer absolutely WILL print labels for UPS, Post Office, and FedEx. I have printed dozens of shipping labels for those carriers, and they come out perfectly and with high resolution. I print from my fedex.com and ups.com accounts, and US Postal shipping labels from the Endicia application on my computer. Here''s how:

1. I use the Brother 4" x 100ft Continuous Length Paper roll (DK2243), so the printer will automatically cut off the label exactly where the image ends (this also allows me to add additions like "FRAGILE" or "RMA #" below the carrier''s label image).

2. When the label is ready to print (from FedEx, UPS or Endicia), instead of sending it to the printer I save it as a pdf file, and then open the pdf in Adobe Reader (or Acrobat) [note: rotate the image sideways and enlarge to full screen for best results].

3. In the printer''s P-Touch Editor application, I select "Insert > Picture > Screen Capture...", which takes me back to Adobe Reader, and lets me select an area of the label image to capture.

4. The captured image then appears in the P-Touch app; I select print and it prints out the label.

Granted it takes an extra step, but it has the advantages of a) letting you save the label (pdf file) in case of mis-print you can easily print another, and FOR MAC USERS: b) it lets you print labels from UPS and FedEx on a Mac neither ups.com or fedex.com currently support direct printing on a Mac.

I also print all sorts of other labels, and the continuous roll lets me print the exact size I want, with no waste. The P-Touch Editior has a fairly versatile drawing program, so you can design labels with custom graphics/fonts, and imported images, for many uses.

This printer is built like a tank very high-quality construction. Nothing at all like the light flimsy Dymo printers.

Highly recommended

This product appears to work well, and P-touch editor, which came free with the printer, is an easily accessible and understandable program used in conjunction with the printer. The issue I have, however, is that it requires proprietary labels made by Brother, and will not accept any other labels. This in particular was an issue for me, as the company I work for requires pre-printed labels (in color). Brother does not pre-print labels, and this is not a color label printer. For the price, it seems to be an excellent machine, and so long as you do not need pre-printed labels or, of course, color, and don''t mind purchasing labels solely from Brother, than this printer (which is the cheapest label printer I could find that was capable of printing on 4" wide labels) will likely be all you need.

The label printer has been a wonderful time saver. We have 2 and they are connected to our computer system and we can print labels with the click of our mouse! The only issue that I have found is in coordination with our program, long names are cut off of the label. Other than that, I am completely pleased. Our small business has saved time and heart-ache no longer dealing with envelope printers.

Overall:

This is a product I wish I could have read reviews on before buying. First, I am very happy with it, after all. I needed a printer to print the plans at home. It may be a photographic quality printer, I don''t know. I only used it for home plans. I didn''t really need color, but it come with color and the color works fine.

Arriving:

The first surprise was the overall size. It was way bigger than I thought it would be. UPS doesn''t just dump it on your porch. A mover comes to your house and asks you, "where do you want us to put it?" You need to have enough room for it. It won''t just fit on your desk, I think you have to get the stand. Once I saw how big it was, I ordered a stand. That wasted about a week. Finally, I got the stand put together and the printer put on it. Set up was not to bad, but I paid a computer expert to hook it up. I don''t know how much trouble I would have had if I did it myself. I found later that the OfficeMax had one in the printing department, if you want to go see one. I imagine they all have the same stuff.

Use;

The only thing bad, I found so far, (about a month), is it is hard to change the paper. It is hard to get the paper in straight. It takes the machine about 2 or 3 minutes to figure out if it will accept the paper or not. Four or five tries will take 15 minutes. This is not good if you are printing at the last minute. My advice is buy the HP paper. The edges are taped, not glued. You can untape it with out damaging the leading edge of the paper and then the paper will feed in the first time. I looked for a YOUTube video on the feeding of the paper. I found videos of printing, but no set up or paper feeding. If you make it as far printing as the fellow in the video, you would have mastered the machine with no video.

Canon;

I don''t know if they read this, but if they do, they should post some videos online. It would make it easier to operate. Seems like they don''t care. The machine is nice, but where are their engineers? The Canon web site is lacking also. If you enter the ink cartridge number you need in the search area in the Canon site, it says "not found". How can they not have all their own numbers in their own site? Finding ink (on this size printer, they call it ink, not toner) may be a challenge. I could not find the exact same cartridges that came with the printer on Amazon. Like I said before, I could not find them on the Canon site either. I ordered several kinds of ink cartridges (on Amazon) to see which ones would work. It seems like Canon would care more than that.

Bottom Line;

This is way better than not having a 24 x 36 printer. I was driving all over town and not getting plans printed on time was a major delay for me. Now I can print at home. I don''t have a handle on cost yet. but it pays for itself in time saved. I would buy it again, but I wish the Canon people had some common sense, as far as making operation user friendly. I don''t want to be negative. I am really happy with this purchase. As you can see by the 5 stars. There was nothing affordable even 2 years ago. Hope this was helpful.

We have a Land of Nod kids play table that takes a roll of paper for art projects at the end of the table. This fits perfectly. The paper is good quality and does not go to schreds easily if a marker is on a spot for too long, it is longer than most kids rolls and is better money for the amount of paper.

Buy HP Bright White Inkjet Paper Now

I bought this paper roll in search of a paper roll that was compatible with the Land of Nod Activity Table, whose paper rolls were out of stock and nine dollars with shipping for a third less paper. Most of other rolls, like the one from Melissa and Doug, is way to thin so my daughter won''t color on the table I suppose because the paper is too far from the edges.

I am so happy I found this roll. It is perfect. Just the right width. The fact that it is longer and thereby a bigger roll did not affect the fit in any way. Good quality paper, too.

This is a great, great, great find. Thanks to the previous reviewer who also commented about this fitting the Land of Nod Table.

I use this HP Inkjet paper on my Epson 9900. I needed something that was lightweight but could still hold color without bleeding all over the place; this product filled these need perfectly. I use it primarily to print architectural & engineering line-drawings that require color lines. It''s perfect for this because it is weight-wise similar to the 20# bond I use for B/W line drawings, but every line is crisp and clear. Its also very economical compared to some other wide-format media. I also use it for short-term ''throw-away'' banners, such as "Happy 40th Birthday Bob", but it is not limited to just lettering, sometimes I put a photo on it and for the purposes of having the banner for a specific indoor event, the image looks just fine. Since this paper is not very expensive, it is perfect for one-use occasions, as you don''t have to throw down a ton of money on a custom banner that you will only use for a few hours. This paper also lays very flat post-print (little to no curling).

Very good quality business cards, online templates available on Avery website, but wished I could print one card at a time, so I can make changes to each one before printing.

I''ve printed cards from home for a while and these are really cool and easy to do on a Mac. I used a template for Word and had no issues. I like that they aren''t the ordinary square edged cards and I love the fact that they are two sided as I think you can always put more info. on your card! I haven''t had any issues with ripping or any problems with removing them, just bend them inward and they work like a charm.

The Avery 5371 snap out cards are much better than these:

1. With these cards you only get 8 cards per sheet instead of 10 cards. That''s 20% less for a higher price.

2. Make sure you realize that these cards have rounded corners rather than square. I don''t think they look as professional but the real issue is that they do not snap out as cleanly as the square corners.

3. Because these only have 8 cards per sheet you''ll have to download a special template. If you happen to be a Mac user this will be a serious problem because the standard template in Pages, which works great with Avery 5371, will not work with these sheets. Avery does not provide any Mac iWorks templates for any of their business cards and downloading and converting a Word template is next to impossible.

Stick with the Avery 5371 snap outs.

These cards do not come out easilyfollowing the directions, I still had an average of 1 per page end up getting a rip. The templates are terriblethe pre-made ones don''t work well, at least not on my Mac, and I used a blank one and spent forever on the design, only to have it print a solid inch off the card, when my design was only on the card. I re-did the design, and continually had problemsI tried 2 different printers, and the cards continually print crooked, as the pages get stuck in the printer. Not recommended.

Having five kids in school who all use our networked printer, we go through at least one printer a year.

Because of this, we tend to buy a solid printer that is "cheap" on ink, has good text quality and the ability to print good quality photos from our digital camera.

We purchased the PIXMA IP3000 here at Amazon for several reasons. 1) The price was right. After applying for the Amazon credit card, we were rewarded with a $30 discount off our first purchase using the new credit card. 2) The reviews from other websites rated the PIXMA IP3000 as a high quality buy. 3) We have had outstanding luck with other Canon printers.

After a tiring year for our Canon S630, she died a quick and painless death. We were amazed that the S630 lated as long as it did. When I say we print alot, I mean ALOT. It is not unusual for us to go through a 500 count ream of paper every month. This does not include photo printing, T-shirt transfer printing and various school project prints. Having been extremely satisfied with the S630, we did our research on the PIXMA IP3000 and decided to purchase it.

Though we have only had it a few days, we can tell a big difference in the print quality. The PIXMA IP3000 uses a new technology called "FINE" which micro-manages the print head and the use of ink. This formula has made a great difference in photo printing. The quality is really amazing. We were very happy with the photo printing on the S630, but the PIXMA IP3000 has improved photo printing 100%.

The PIXMA IP3000 is a very sleek looking machine, and looks very nice in our computer room. Once closed up, you don''t even know it is a printer. The duel paper feed system is a huge plus, the lower cassette will hold about 150 sheets of plain paper.

The bundled software seems to be of good quality, but we use Photo Shop for all our printing needs. The PIXMA IP3000 comes shipped with full versions of each ink tank, not the 1/5 filled ink tanks like many companies have went to.

We paid $92.17 for the printer, minus the $30.00 credit card reward for a total purchase price of $62.17. As our old S630 used the same ink tanks as the PIXMA IP3000 does, we felt that since the printer was shipped with 4 full ink tanks, we almost got this printer for free!

We used the "free shipping" option yet still received the printed via UPS in 3 days.

If this printer holds up for a year with this quality, we were be extremely happy.

Of note, the printer does NOT come with a USB cable.

I am a certified technician for Canon (and other manufacturers) printers, and I can run down a few of the strong/weak points of this model. Overall, this is a good machine for occasional users, but doesn''t deliver the best quality available. It''s a good machine for what it is, and most breakdowns that I''ve seen are due to user error.

Pros:

-very fine (2pl) droplet size gives good resolution.

-separate ink tank and print head for lower-cost supplies.

-easy to use, simple interface.

Cons:

-four color system (black, cyan, magenta, yellow) doesn''t give the true depth of image colors (look for 6 colors, with photo cyan and photo magenta, or 8 with photo red and photo green for better results)

-limited ppm output speed

-inks tend to dry if printer is left unattended for extended periods of time

How to keep your inkjet printer functional:

The top reason for printer failure (particularly microfine printers) is use of incorrect ink tanks. Do not use discount inks from other companies, they aren''t formulated for the very small droplet size of this printer. Don''t use ink refill kits, either. The printhead is not usually replaced with ink cartridges, and can easily be clogged by substandard inks. Also, make sure you print something at least once a week to keep the inks fresh. You can print just a nozzle check (press and hold the rest button until the green light blinks for the second time) to refresh the cartridge with a minimum of expended ink.

The Canon Pixma iP3000 printer is, simply put, an excellent combination of great printing quality, unbelievable speed (for an inkjet) and family-friendly affordability.

After years of making dye-based printers, Canon is now making inkjet printers. The advantage of ink over dye is ink-printed photos will not fade over time, at least not as fast as dye. Color ink formula has improved a lot over the last three years, to the point that they will stay vibrant for many years to come. (Of course, only time will tell whether ink photos will last "forever.")

The boxy iP3000 is not a beauty to behold, but impresses everyone in the family with its excellent image quality (very good for text, excellent for photos) and fast speed. With our old Epson printer it used to take five minutes to print a photo at 150dpi in fine mode. With the iP3000, that was cut down to less than a minute and a half, and the same picture looked better this time around, too. Yes, for those of us environmentalists, the printer can print double-sided. Whether that tends to wear down the paper feed mechanism is unknown. So far, at least it hasn''t had a paper jam. (Knock on wood.)

One of the best things about Canon printers (except the much cheaper iP1500) is they use individual ink tanks, and the replacement tanks are fairly priced, so there''s no need to buy a new cartridge to replace all the colors when only one runs out. The iP3000 is also quieter than my Epson and HP.

This holiday season, if you want a family-friendly, high-quality printer, the Pixma iP3000 is by far the best choice. It strikes the perfect balance between function+quality and price.

Want Canon PIXMA iP3000 Photo Printer Discount?

The Pixma iP3000 has performed flawlessly, and is an exceptional value.

(a) The printer is quick, and the output is very sharp. (Please note that I have not printed any photos yetjust web pages and documents).

(b) The printer can duplex pages automatically (prints on both sides of a page). This is very handy when printing documents with many pages. Duplexing appears to slow the printer down a little, but it is still quick.

(c) The iP3000 has two paper slots so you can either load up a large quantity of plain paper, or use the tray for photo paper, and the top feed for plain paper.

(d) The printer uses 4 ink tanks, which can be replaced individually. This will help reduce ink costs (compared to replacing ink cartridges in other printers).

(e) Some newer digital cameras can be connected directly to the printer to produce photo prints, so you don''t have to bother transferring the images from the camera to your PC first. (I haven''t tried this yet).

Two potential "negatives" can be (1) some Epson printers allow printing directly onto CDs/DVDs, while the Canon doesn''t have this functionality, and (2) compared to the Canon i560, the Pixma iP3000 has a larger footprint. Although I like the smaller i560 footprint, I value the features in the iP3000 more.

I bought this printer as an upgrade to my dinosaur HP Inkjet (it had to have been over 10 years old), and must say I''m very pleased so far. However, before I go any further, you should know that the printer does NOT ship with a USB cable to connect it to your computer. This is kind of disappointing, considering you''ll have to spend another $20 just to hook it up to your computer. Aside from that, I am satisfied!

The first thing one is likely to notice is the design, which is sleek, simple, and well thought out. The front has two buttons, one of which will cancel a print job in progress. The other button changes the paper feed tray, of which there are two. There is also a port on the front that allows PictBridge enabled cameras to connect and print without the need of an intervening computer.

For its price, this printer is packed with a plethora of useful features. One feature that was intrigueing was automatic on and off-the printer turns on when you need it, and off when not in use. This option needs to be configured via the Control Panel. Another useful feature is automatic duplexing. In other words, the iP3000 can print two-sided pages without human intervention. How cool is that!

Print quality and speed on this model continue to leave me grinning. The test page was printed in a matter of seconds, and a test 4x6 print came out relatively fast (Canon''s claim of 36 seconds per print seems correct). Text is crisp, and colors are fairly accurate. The test 4x6 print was a little darker than the same one when it was printed at Kinko''s, but they also have something like 8 different ink colors (versus the iP3000''s 4), so that''s to be expected!

Anyways, to cut a long story short, this printer is an amazing value at just under $100.

I ran out of DVD labels one day and had to run to Office Max to finish my project. $28 for 40 labels (their brand) was the lowest price available. I needed them, so I bought them, came home and finished my project, then browsed Amazon to compare cost.

$9 for 100 of these labels ??!! ($3 for labels + $6 for shipping) Are you kidding?

They arrived quickly and look, feel and seem exactly the same as the ones from Office Max.

My projects consist of burning DVDs and CDs for light, occasional use so the quality of these labels are just fine for me.

I have read articles suggesting that paper labels do not hold up over time on DVDs because DVDs are subject to high heat while being played (CDs are okay). I have not encountered this problem, however I am not using the same DVDs over and over and over again.

Whether or not to use a label at all is another complete discussion, but if you''re looking to purchase labels, why pay more than necessary?

Xerox WorkCentre M20I Multifunction Printer

Xerox WorkCentre M20I Multifunction Printer

  • Up to 22 ppm copy/print speed, first copy out in less than 8 seconds
  • Up to 1,200 dpi print, 600 dpi optical scan, and 400 dpi fax resolution
  • Automatic 2-sided printing; 32-bit RISC processor with video controller
  • USB 2.0, parallel, 10/100 BaseT Ethernet interfaces

I bought this machine about 1 month ago for my home office. I print contracts, send/recieve many FAXes, require legal size paper handling and needed a good copier that can handle 40-60 pages in the auto-feed tray. I also wanted two paper trays that could hold a lot of paper. I tried one of the lower end HP (7100?something) and it was .. let''s just say a bad experience.

In a nutshell, this multi feature product seems to work well for what I need. If you run a home business, put it away from you because it''s warm until it goes into energy-save mode. You can program the time-out period, so that''s cool. It''s also loud when printing, so make sure you aren''t bothering anyone when working from home at night or in the morning.

The scanning software isn''t very good. it comes with the PaperPort program as well as OmniPage both programs I haven''t used before. The scanning requires that you place the document in the auto-feeder tray and not on the glass itself. I don''t like that because it can scan "crooked" if it doesn''t feed perfectly. Also, note the following:

The output tray deposits docs to the left, but loads to the right.

The cords (USB, power, printer-cable, phone jack) are on the left side of the machine and NOT on the back more convenient from my perspective.

This machine is expensive $2,200+ when adding the optional second paper tray and a toner cartridge to replace the half-life one it comes with.

I don''t require network printing, but it does support that feature (M20i unit only). I connect via the USB port. It saw it immediately when I hooked up out of the BOX on my XP-based computer.

The Setup software seemed kind of "old" because MS XP (my OS) didn''t have drivers for this hardware. The scanning software that it comes with isn''t very good PaperPort, I believe. It''s just slow to run and not very user friendly. If you have another TWAIN program, plan on using it for the scanning function.

The USB cable is only 6 feet long, so plan on buying a 12-footer to move tha machine far enough away from your work area.

This machine is large and also heavy 50+ pounds. It''s much larger machine than the typical HP or Brother multi-function product offering (FAX/Print/Copy) that you''d buy at COMPUSA. For the record, I purchased this from an authorized dealer someone that "I KNEW" so I could get all over if I had a problem. Also, I had to buy a printer cart because this machine isn''t made to sit on your desk or even under it. If you have the two trays installed, you should know that it''s very tall when sitting on a normal size SoHo desk, so keep that in mind.

Bottom line it does what it was made for. It''s a heavy duty, small business copier that also sends/receives FAXes and scans.

I have had this machine for over a year now. I agree with the previous reviewer that the scanning function should be improved. In addition to what he mentioned, if you have a small network, you cannot use the USB scan as it is not hooked directly to a computer. However, I was (eventually) able to configure the unit on my network so that I could basically e-mail documents to myself in PDF. Not the most convenient, but very doable once you get used to it. Doesn''t take me much longer than a USB scan would. I wanted this PDF capacity, in addition to larger volume, having graduated from an HP all-in-one at my small office. The machine does volume with no major problems. The only caveat is that you will have jams in the machine, like call copiers, especially if you use paper more than PDF''s or faxing. I get about 2 jams a year, which makes the maintenance contract worthwhile ($299/yr). Maintenance is VERY fast with the contract (recently less than two hours). Printer drivers installed fine at the outset, but then fell out after a system crash and were tricky to re-install. Technical support line was somewhat helpful with the printer driver issue, but it took a LOT of calls before I found someone good enough to talk me through the PDF to e-mail issue. I am pretty knowledgable, though not a hard core tecchie.

The unit needs some work, but is overall very reliable, dependable in volume for a small office (500 or so sheets per month), and I have never had faster service from anyone.

I have had this machine in my office for a couple of years now, and I am hoping to be able to afford a replacement now. This machine has a number of poorly constructed components. My biggest frustration has been the Fuser, which has frequently jammed up since the first six months we had the machine, and requires unscrewing in order to remove the jammed paper. This machine was not what I expected for the price paid.

I love the machine, but this refurbished unit was shipped with the toner installed, which resulted in toner coating all parts when it arrived.

Epson Stylus Photo 2200 Ink Jet Printer (C11C387011)

Epson Stylus Photo 2200 Ink Jet Printer
  • 2,880 x 1,440 dpi maximum resolution in black and color
  • Roll paper holder and built-in automatic cutter
  • Economical ink system with 7 separate UltraChrome cartridges
  • Interchangeable standard and matte ink cartridges for black-and-white prints
  • USB, Firewire and Parallel interfaces

The Epson 2200 may seem like a lot of money to put down for a 13x19 inch printer when compared to the Epson 1280 or other printers of similar size, but totaling the amount of money spent using the printer tips the scales in favor of the more expensive 2200. With seven color inks you replace each cartridge individually as opposed to a multi-ink cartridge as in the 1280 that costs three times the price and needs to be replaced even if all the inks aren''t empty.

I''ve owned this printer for five months and have had great results. The ColorSync profile works great and have resulted in accurate colors most of the time without tweaking in Photoshop. I recommend Epson Premium Luster paper or the Enhanced Matt paper for this printer. Luster produced prints indistinguishable from photo lab prints when viewed straight on, but does show ''ghosting'' in shadows when viewed at sharp angles. The main factor of this printer, and other Epson 7 color ink printers is the color life. The enhanced matt paper is rated up to 80 years when the paper is not exposed to direct airflow, and the luster is 20-25 years under the same conditions, which is the same as photo lab prints.

If you have a 4+ mpx digital camera and you want to make prints at 13x19 inches, which is essentially the same size you would print a 35mm negative on 16x20 photo paper, this printer is for you. And, 13x19 inch prints look good on a wall and matt nicely with standard 20x24 inch frames.

Yes, I''ve read some of the other reviews on this printer and some good points are made on which papers to use for the best quality prints. But I can''t agree with only 2 or 3 stars either. Standard glossy paper hasn''t done well for for me for some reason, neither was I impressed with Epsons archival matte paper either, but others I know like it. However, media choice is the key to getting this printer to reach its optimum potential. Using Epsons line of premium papers produces photos that rival any I have had done at pro photo labs.

I am extremely fond of the Premium Luster and Premium Semi-gloss papers. The colors are very well saturated with very good contrast. After scanning the negs and doing some minimal touch-up in photoshop to my liking, I import the files to film factory. Film factory is bundled with this printer and is a very user friendly application to make printing quite easy. Yes, there is a small learning curve to see what this printer likes, but, it didn''t take long before I was producing prints that you couldn''t tell from the photo lab. In fact, after some adjustment on portraits especially, I liked mine better. The quality is excellent!

Ink usage is not bad overall, with the exception of the light inks especially the light magenta which seems to be its favorite to use, followed closely by light cyan and light black. However, because each color is in its own cartridge makes it to where you change only those that run low and not all of the colors at once.

Set up was easy and we were printing in just a short time. But as I said the learning curve on media use sure wasted some ink and paper. I cannot stress enough using the premium papers with this printers while also having sufficient file size for the larger prints. I''ve run several different 20MB 8X10''s that were tack sharp on the 1440 setting. However I prefer files of 30-plus megs and larger for most 8X10''s and 11X14''s.

With just a little practice, anyone can be printing like a pro right from your desktop. Yes there are cheaper ones out there, but I''ve learned you get what you pay for. And, it depends on your needs. But for prints that will rival most film labs, the 2200 is a winner.

I have had the opportunity to play around with this printer for a few days and must say that the output is the most amazing that I have ever seen from a consumer oriented inkjet printer. Now, there are some points that are problematic, but I believe that overall, this printer deserves the 5 stars.

I purchased the printer as a companion for my Nikon D100 digital SLR camera. The two features that were critical in my decision to go with this over other cameras on the market are the ability to print up to 2880x1440dpi and the max paper size of 13x19inches.

When the printer first arrived, I was a bit skeptical and dissappointed to find that the OSX support is quite basic. Now, it is important to note that all features are supported in Classic mode, but as many can understand, this is a bit of a hassle. That said, I have found in my experience so far that there isn''t anything that I would like to do that I can''t with OSX. Boarderless printing might be a concern to others, so I will point out that you cannot print Boarderless in OSX. That said, as a semi-professional photographer, I don''t care for boarderless prints at all. You often loose some of the image because the size of the actual image seldom matches the size of the paper and cropping almost always happens. The paper-roll is another option that is not available through OSX, but quite frankly, I have very little use for it.

Despite these slight bad points, I was able to everything that I would ever want to do right out of the box. It took me a few test strips to get the first truly impressive print and from that moment on I''ve been getting fantastic picture one after another. I''ve tested a number of types of paper in a number of settings and have found the following: Colorsync (the setting in OSX that is supposed to match the image on the screen in terms of accuracy) was not really desireable. Colors were weak, blacks were not on target, overall lackluster. I found that photorealistic created fantastic output at 2880-1440dpi. Also, it is VERY important to note that the quality of prints jumps DRAMATICALLY between regular matte photopaper and actual glossy or semi-glossy photopaper.

A word to film photographers: terminology in digital, injet printing paper is slightly different from regular photographic media. What we know as "matte" paper is a lot more like regular printer paper. I would recommend Semi-glossy, or Pearl if you want heafty paper, but not "shiny." I have tested the Epson brand of semi-glossy and it is very nice. The only problem is that it is on the whole more expensive that third party paper. I''ve done some research and testing and found that Ilford inkjet printing paper is fantastic with used on the 2200. Ilford recommends that you set your printer to Premium Glossy, but I tried both Premium Glossy and Semi-glossy and got equal results as far as I could see with the naked eye.

I have also experimented with 13x19 prints and they are fantastic and gigantic. Printing times using a 600mhz iBook, 650mb ram, and firewire at max resolution are about 5 minutes for 8x10 and about 15 minutes for 13x19. Given the quality and the fact that the output looks as good as anything I''ve ever gotten from a professional developer, it is fine worth the wait. For the record, I am printing Tiffs recorded at the highest resolution that the D100 will handle. Each print is about 17.4MB in size. It may be that with prints of smaller file-size the printing times are reduced, but for archival purposes, I max out the file-sizes of my digital photography and I find it to be equal to that of film (at least as far as I''ve compared to my old film-based prints)

One last minor problem is the ink. The cartriges (seven total) are small and after printing about 15 prints, all at max resolution, I find that some of the colors (the light colors in particular) are about 1/4 of the way used. This leads me to two thoughts: 1. do not print max resolution until you are doing your final prints. 2. They could have made the cartriges bigger in order to make it a bit more cost effective.

That said, this is perhaps the best printer for digital photography that I have ever seen and I am more than willing to give it 5 stars despite some minor problems here and there.

Overall, I really like this printer. The colors print out quick and sharp even on ordinary paper, and the option of printing on Super A3 is a huge bonus. There is one huge caveat, though. Ordinarily, having the ink split into 7 different colors would be a good thing, as you only have to replace that particular color when it does go out, and individual cartridges for the Epson 2200 are fairly inexpensive. But the colors do run out, and fairly rapidly at that. Within a day after getting the printer I was forced to start looking for cartridges, with none to be found at any place I went to in the Los Angeles area, even at the place where the printer was originally purchased. I found a few of the cartridges offered through Amazon.com, but I am still frantically searching for Light Cyan. Even Epson itself seems to not be supporting this product, as you cannot get the most of the cartridges from their own web site. Perhaps the product is just too new, but I find the lack of support disheartening.

I have only had my 2200 for 2 weeks so far, but have enjoyed using it immensely. I have a 5.1 megapixal cam, but was disappointed that my great "on-screen" photos didn''t look the same when printed out. I even purchased a Sony dye-sublimation printer, thinking that pairing it with the Sony cam (DSCF707) would produce great results. I was limited to a maximum print size of 4x6", and the final pictures were not thrillingly vivid. I used my Canon S300 to print larger 8x10''s of my vacation shots. It did great for a 100 dollar printer, but again, fell short of my camera''s ability to produce great photos.

I knew there had to be a printer out there that could meet my expectations. After shopping around I purchased one that claimed to print over 5 megapixals, but returned it after reading it''s poor reviews. (Lex....)

Enter the Epson 2200... Wow...all the reviews and information I read on it sounded GREAT, so I ordered it, and waited impatiently for 2 weeks for it to arrive. I ordered extra paper and cartridges, knowing I would burn a lot of both to get the hang of the printer.

So far the pictures have exceeded my expectations, and then some. I have used the Epson Premium Gloss, Semi-Gloss, Premium Luster, Archival Matte, and Watercolor papers. The Premium Luster produces the most professional looking, and feeling photo, and contrary to other comments about the matte paper...I have had excellent results with it. (I have only used the Epson Archival/Enhanced Matte Paper on the "auto" mode using Print Image Matching) In fact, it rivals the depth and color of my glossier paper, without the glare...and my B&W prints never looked better.

A word to the wise. This printer specifies only certain papers for best results. I would not put low grade gas into a fine auotmobile, nor cheap paper into my Epson 2200.

I am still learning the software, and how to edit the photos for best color, etc. So far, with the exception of a couple of prints, I have had the best results printing the photos untouched, with Print Image Matching. It seems to print my pictures very close to the way they appear on the Monitor.

As for the ink, I have printed over 30 8x10''s or larger, and my lowest 2 cartridges are around 25% ..the rest at still half, or above.

To say the least, I am VERY happy with this printer. It has re-kindled my desire to frame that perfect photo...and givin me the ability to flawlessly transfer it onto paper.

Happy photo taking! JW

Paper seems to be going up and up and up in price. When I spotted this 5000 sheet bargain, I jumped on it. The paper is nice and heavy. It is also some of the whitest paper I have ever seen. It prints perfectly through my Dell Laser printer, no jams to date.

Price, quality and no jams, that just about sums up what I seek in paper and this Navigator Premium delivers.

The box arrived a little banged up, and some of the ream covers were even tore, but not one sheet was bent or disfigured.

Despite reading all the words of shipping woes about this product, I thought I''d roll the dice and see if the Paper Gods were smiling. I figured for the price even if a few reams were lost on the voyage it would still potentially be a nice cargo. The packaging held and every sheet and ream was intact. And top quality to boot! And price is great -$4.80 per ream, free shipping. Thanks, Amazon!!

I always bought the cheap staples brand paper before, but seeing as this was pretty cheap I thought I''d go for it. It comes in a brown box with the reams well packaged. Some of the covers on the reams were damaged, but the paper inside was fine.

I have printed lots of things on it, and they look very good. The paper holds up even when you print double sided, in fact there is almost no color bleed through, as in you won''t see shadows of the color on the other side of the page.

When you get it, remember that this thing weighs about 60 pounds, I had lots of fun carrying it from my mail services building back home.

All in all, it was an excellent purchase, cheap and very high quality, and of course Amazon sent it very quickly via Prime!

This is an excellent high-quality paper at a great price. HOWEVER when they ship it they just toss individual reams of paper into a bigger box. So during shipping the packages bounce around, and needless to say some of them split open. The big box was sturdy, but some amount of the paper was damaged (and the blue wrapper ink rubs off on the paper as well.) I could use 95% of the paper so I didn''t bother complaining or asking to ship it back. But depending on what happens during shipment, the damage could have been more extensive. What they ought to do is ship a CARTON of paper in its original box as shown in the product illustration, and then place that full carton inside the sturdy outer shipping box.

So it''s 5 stars for the paper and 1 star for the shipping, giving a 3 star rating.

This product is better then most of the paper you find in local retailers but judging from other reviews and personal experience, it is definitely a gamble if you are to receive a 100% box of usable paper! My carton arrived in shambles, and instead of the normal heavy duty plastic reinforcements to secure the box, it only had clear packaging tape! 8 out of 10 reams were damaged dented or dirty (blue stains from packaging or black from the dirt accumulated during shipping). The lid to my box was broken and one side of it was torn off. Buyer beware! Most of the products in this category is shipped in a unsafe manner. Something to consider when you buy paper products from Amazon :( .
