Handy Portable Document and Photo Scanner

Handy Portable Document and Photo Scanner
  • Just glide the scanner over any document or photo to capture it in 600 x 600 dpi resolution. Scanning doesn''t get any easier than this

Overview and Scan Quality:

This little scanner is lightweight, easily portable, doesn''t take up much space, and is super easy to use. It takes a little getting used to to get scans straight (if you shift even slightly while scanning, table lines and rows of text will not be precisely straight). The scanned image is pretty clear and I have had no problems with bleeding, blurring, fuzzing, dulling, or anything of the like. It does sometimes pick up a bit of noise that adds a slight color in the background of monotone scans. This may confuse a printer to add that coloring should you need to print the scanned page. This scanner can scan color or monotone items and the resolution can be set to either 300dpi or 600dpi.

This is fine for quicky scans of receipts, reference material, and the like, but if you are scanning important records or anything that requires a high quality scan, you may want to practice with this thing until you get everything straight or just use a flatbed scanner for that sort of thing. You will want to scan on a white surface unless you don''t mind bits of table or more significant noise showing up in your scan.

Included Software:

The software is not required in order to use the scanner and I don''t like that it has no pdf option. The software takes whatever screenshot you select and will send the text to Word, a table to Excel, either to a file or the clipboard, or an image to a file, clipboard, or email. I did not bother with it since I use pdf files almost exclusively and I cannot tell you if any of the transfers are accurate. Whether you use the software or not, the scanner is recognized as a storage device and your scan opens as an image in Windows Image Viewer. If you have a pdf printer driver (such as CutePDF, which is a free download at the CutePDF website), you can simply select "print" in the image viewer and set it to full page to print the image to a pdf file. I have to admit that the scans look a lot better than I expected them to.

MicroSD Card:

The description on Amazon currently seems to indicate that the microSD card is optional. It is not, so make sure you have one when you get this scanner. It scans wirelessly and only gets plugged in via USB cable to transfer saved scans to your computer.

Batteries, Cables, Etc.:

I use mine for occasional quick scans I don''t want to turn the flatbed on for, such as receipts and notes. I have not had a problem with batteries running out, but that may be an issue if you are using the scanner more heavily. I use eneloop rechargeable batteries in mine without problem. The cable is a standard USB, so if you lose it, you probably have a dozen or so lying around you can use and, if you don''t, it is not expensive to replace. It also comes with a microfiber cloth for cleaning the scan window. Make sure not to use anything other than microfiber! If you lose it, the Walmart eye care center carries inexpensive microfiber cloths that will work just fine and other stores that sell glasses also carry them.

Scanning:

FYI, the image on Amazon shows the scanner going across a book page horizontally. If you will look closely, there are white lines at either end of the scanner and those indicate the scan area. For best results, start at the top of the page and move the scanner down toward you, making sure the image you want scanned stays in between those white lines. It is not picky and didn''t have a problem with me being a little jerky. Any side-to-side movement will result in slightly jagged lines, but the direction it scans came out just fine even though I am not very good at keeping an even pace.

Conclusion:

This scanner is great for quick scans or on-the-go scanning. The results are crisp and clear with minimal effort and retrieving scans from it is very simple.

I received this product in good order and in a timely fashion. It was pretty simple to operate, but it eats batteries. so make sure you have some extra ones on hand.

After purchasing my own mini SD card and my own batteries, I was ready to do some scanning.

It is a good as it claims to be! For storing good printable scans of Black and White and colour documents, the 300 dpi is more than adequate. 600 dpi tends to produce bulky documents (more than 2 MB). Unless you have a picture with some fine details that need magnification later on, the 500 900 kb file size produced by 300 dpi is sufficient. The maximum time it will take to scan an 8.5 x 11 inch paper is 12 seconds (colour, 600 dpi) but since I use the 300 dpi all the time, the recommended time is less than 5 seconds. Very quick!

It takes a little practice getting to know which side to orient the scanner not to produce an upside down image or a laterally inverse one. Unless you have Parkinson''s disease, most people''s hands will be steady enough to scan wonderfully crisp images. The problem is that some documents/book pages have staples, dog ears and other impediments that make it difficult to roll over a flat surface evenly. As far as surfaces go; I recommend laying the document on top of a pane of glass, which allows for a frictionless gliding motion. I tried to press the document page flat onto the reverse side of the glass pane and scan from the other side of the glass but unfortunately, unlike flatbed scanners, this results in a blurred image. It seems the thickness (1/4 inch) of the glass was too much to get a good scan.

I really have fun with this scanner but of course wouldn''t recommend using it to scan entire books. I only use it to grab magazine articles and to scan receipts and the like, but it would also be excellent for pictures.

A 1 GB SD card is more than sufficient memory. I have been scanning non stop for weeks now and must have hundreds of documents and still haven''t used half of the memory. The autoshutoff after 2 minutes saves on battery life, which has only needed replacing once since the 4 weeks I''ve used it daily. A caveat since human hands are unsteady by nature, chances are that after doing many scans, some will end up with characters on the page which are stretched or compressed a bit (portions where your hand glided too quickly or got stuck on a dog ear). So don''t buy this if you have to produce large numbers of flawlessly reproduced documents or else you''ll be disappointed or find you have to strive too hard for perfection.

I definitely believe this is a good buy, though some may be put off by having to buy your own sd card and batteries (which is a significant cost). But most phones have micro sd cards now, so that could be substituted and there are always some old batteries lying round the house right? (in the remote control maybe?).

The scanner works basically as advertised. We will keep it. It is not difficult to use. My only complaint is that I wanted it to convert text into Word. I just could not get the included software to give me anything but gibberish when converting from optical to a Word formagt. But the device is easy to use and does a fine job of scanning and downloading optical files so I can save scanned documents but I cannot edit them.

All I expect in a sub $100 scanner is here. Works reliably and clearly on flat documents. No required install of bloatware on a Macintosh. After you install batteries and a micro SD card (not supplied!) you format the card, set the time, calibrate with a piece of white paper and go. There are two options, low/high (300 or 600 DPI), and mono/color. These settings are not persistent between restarts. The device always scans full-width, about 8", and is quite tolerant of jerky scans. When you plug in to a computer using the included USB cable the scanner appears as a digital camera device and all of the jpeg''s are in a single folder. There is no OCR software included for Macs so you have to use your own solution here.

Brother 1 Inch Round Paper Label
  • Sold by the Roll
  • Permanent Self-Adhesive
  • 1" Diameter
  • White Paper
  • 1000 Labels per Roll

This is an excellent product and does help with many functions of my business. I can label things with specific names of fragrances and stuff like "Cotton Candy". They are also great for small items like lip balm because they fit the smaller containers. The only downfall of the brother labels is that they are not heat resistant. The way I have gotten around this is by either spraying them with matte or glossy fixative or by putting clear plastic tape over them. It would seem after a couple of months the heat and humidity makes the label fade. Overall I absolutely love the whole thermal printer though and these are perfect 1" dots to use for any labeling needs. If you live in a cooler more temperate state it may not be a problem.

I am a nice guy. I have patience. Customer service is inherently frustrating, I''m okay with that. Things take time. Things break. I''m okay with that too. But this is OFF THE !@#$% SCALES OF BEING OKAY.

1. My printer broke. Wouldn''t scan or copy, just print.

2. I call customer service. I describe the problem. They said they''d send a replacement part and a guy would come fix it. Weird, for a $300 printer, but whatever.

3. The printer guy comes. Says they sent the wrong part. Reorders the part.

4. Two weeks go by. I call Samsung. The part is on INDEFINITE BACKORDER. I was not told. I talk to "Executive Customer Service", they say that they can just send another part that works just as well. WHY DIDN''T THEY JUST SEND THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE?

5. The printer guy comes back. Installs the part, it doesn''t work. He says that he charges $400/hour. That means Samsung has already paid for two replacement parts + shipping and about $1200 in repairs to NOT fix my broken $300 printer. Genius. He marks it "unrepairable". I call Samsung, they say they''re going to call me when his report goes through their system.

6. A week later. They never called me, so I call Samsung. They say they''ll finally send me a new printer. GREAT!! FINALLY!!!

7. ...wait. They''re not sending me a new printer. They''re sending me a new unit, but I have to keep the toner, the accessories, and I have to pull out the "imaging unit" and put it in a box because if I expose it to light, the whole thing is destroyed and my printer is worthless. No matter that I don''t know what the part looks like, I should be able to pull it out in the dark and put it in the conveniently sized light-proof box I don''t have. Great. I ask for an email instruction or checklist so I can make sure to take out all the right parts. The Samsung tech support guy says "we don''t have email." Really? Great move. A tech support department without email. Perfect.

8. Nope...not over yet. They aren''t sending ME the printer. It''s getting sent to my local UPS store. I now have to hope I pull out all the right parts to my broken printer in the dark, put them in a box so the "imaging unit" doesn''t break, go to the UPS store, pick up the new one, and hope that I can put it all back together at my house and that I haven''t left a part in the old printer because I''m supposed to take out the parts that were on a list that they wouldn''t give me.

9. I call the UPS store that Samsung tells me about. They have no idea what I''m talking about and have never had a Samsung printer sent to them, ever.

YOU SAMSUNG!!!!

Your crappy Epson printer breaks, they send you a new one for free, you don''t even have to send the old one back. THAT''S customer service. I will never buy another Samsung product, just to not have to deal with this moronic process again.

Pros: Meets Expectations, Features, network scan with mac and pc great

Cons: Set up

I purchased this All-in-One color laser printer last night from my local Office Max. I was hoping to see in store how to function of the wireless actually worked. The sales guy was unable to demonstrate this after trying on one or two of the floor computers. As a leap of faith (and a few months of reading on the internet before purchasing), I bought the machine at the sale price plus the 2 year OfficeMax warranty.

I brought it home and unpacked and plugged it into the wall at a location not next to a computer or next to a router or wired network connection. My first idea was to set this up wirelessly so I can leave it a universally accessible location like my family room. Well playing with the 2 inch display and 10 digit keypad was becoming frustrating. The printer found my wireless SSID, I typed in the proper credentials but the wireless functionality never started. I then moved the printer next to the router and a computer which I should mention is a Netgear 802.11g router and an old G4 eMac running OS X.4.

Before I tried accepting this to my network, I decided to give it a static IP address on my router. I typed in the MAC address and the IP address I wanted. Then using the CLX-3175FW''s 2 inch screen and on-board menu, I entered that static IP into the network configuration. I plugged the printer using an ethernet cable into my router and typed the IP address in my Firefox browser on the eMac. It immediately opened the SyncThruWeb page and I was able to configure some settings.

I immediately tried to setup the wireless function. I tried ever possible configuration and disconnection of the ethernet cable possible. I could not get the wireless function started. I plan on calling Samsung when I have an hour to kill. At this point I decided to move onto the next couple tasks, setting up the printer and scanner, and maybe fax.

I downloaded the software from Samsung''s website: 1. Smart Panel 2. Print Driver and 3. Scan manager. I installed the Print driver first, then the scan manager, then the Smart Panel on the eMac. Once I did that, I opened up System Preferences and added the printer to the computer. Once that was done, the Smart Panel icon in the top right was active. I clicked it and was able to access all fucntions of set-up using Samsung Smart Panel. I decided to set-up scanning now.

Within the menu of the Smart Panel, there is an option for Scan Manager. On the eMac, I clicked this and I was able to locate the CLX-3175FW on my network. I set up a folder and two applications. First folder was just generic PDF scanning. My wife likes to scan bills and semi-important mail and documents. The ADF feeder will take 15 pages and scan a multipage PDF file. I then created an application prompt to open up Adobe Acrobat. I often use Acrobat to scan important work documents and need robust functionality to edit and review documents. I then set up a iPhoto application for when want to scan pictures from the flatbed, etc. Time to test.

I grabbed some mail, I had a 5 page wireless bill, and stuffed it into the ADF on-top. The Samsung beeps to let you know you are ready. I select the scan button and scroll right to select "Scan to PC" and click ok. I can see that it found my eMac so I click ok. It then sees the folder I setup called Bills/Mail so I select that. It then asks for color or gray, 300 DPI, etc. I click ok, ok, ok until it finally starts scanning. Immediately on a screen pops up on the eMac showing the progess of the scanned document. The scan finishes in less than a minute and immediately Preview opens up ans shows me my 5 pages scanned document....pretty slick.

I then decide to set up all this on my two laptops. I have a G4 iBook running OS X.4.11 and an Acer Netbook running Windows XP Home. As expected, the scanning function worked exactly the same on the other two computers. I am very happy with the scanning function. It works MUCH better than I could imagine. I use an MFP at work, Ricoh Aficio 161, and the Samsung software is much easier to use and gives better options for scanning to a networked folder. Kudos to Samsung on this one.

I then decided to try fax but I didn''t have much luck here because I have a VOIP system at home. I''ve tried many configurations and even tried calling Comcast for some possible answers but to no avail. Basically I can plug the fax using a standard phone cord into the my Comcast modem, my MTA has two ports. The fax will dial out but it doesn''t complete the fax. An error report will be printed out showing a No Answer error.

Overall, I am pleased. Having a network scanner and printer at home are great. If I can setup the wireless function I would be even happier so I can move this All-in-One unit to a more convenient location. But the network printer works great. The Samsung is set to sleep after 15 minutes and it wakes fast and responds to a network wake. I was able to send mulitple types of documents (PDF, Word, JPEG, internet prints) to the CLX-3175FW without a problem when attached to the network. I don''t have the USB cord plugged in. There is no need. No need to have an active computer, it will run solo. If you want to network scan, you need to have a computer online or setup a drive or folder on your network to act as a server. I plan to setup my NAS (Network Attached Storage drive) which is primarily a backup disc as a server for scanned info but so far its great.

I purchased this printer in the UK (since I live there). It is excellent. While in the USA, I purchased black toner cartridges for this printer. Be advised that ONLY toners purchased in the Euro States will work in the Euro (UK)machines. This is due to a security chip in the toner cartridge. Thus USA cartridges will only work in USA machines. Anyone want to buy 2 new (never used) black USA toner Cartridges-good price!

I got sick and tired of replacing my ink cartridge''s on my Lexmark inkjet printer at home so I went looking for a good laser colour to replace it. After an extensive search I came across this samsung printer and I was impressed with all the reviews so I decided to give it a try. I was not disappointed.

I have installed this as a network printer flawlessly using the wireless NIC then wired directly into my router. I have install the drivers flawlessly on my wife''s MAC, My dual boot Vista/Xp laptop, and my home Windows 7 device. The linux one is the only one I havn''t tested, but I will in a couple months on a VM.

The Printer it''s self is small for a multi-colour laser printer and fit''s perfectly in a little cabinet whole I made. It''s a little to big for my desk but that''s to be expected as for what it is.

I have printed various maps, documents, pdf''s, and I really can''t notice too much of a difference from my ink jet other then the brightness of the colour, but your going to get that with all Laser colours so I don''t count that as a negative.

I have tested the scanner and it scans and/or copies great the only issues I have is getting the scanner to scan connected over the network. I have not been able to fully attack this problem yet (gave it about 5 minutes of my time), but this is a known problem with alot of all-in one printer''s (not just samsung) that are 64 bit (which my machine is)

Overall though I have been most impressed with this Printer, and definitly recommend over it''s HP and Lenovo counterparts. I say this from years of IT work at 17,000 + employee hospital where I''ve worked with all types of printers and computers.

First, DO NOT DOWN LOAD ANY FIRMWARE UPDATE from Samsung. They prompted me to install a firmware upgrade for a "bug" in the printer copier. There has been no issue with it. All has been working fine. Until after the install. I have been buying off-label (Green Apple brand) toner/drum cartridges which save me a bit of money (not alot). I have 2 for backup. Immediately after installing the firmware upgrade, the copier will not recognize the toner. Saying "Incompatible toner cartridge installed". And will not work. I called customer service, and first they told me to uninstall the software. I said it can not be done, as it is a firmware, installed in the copier. They transferred me to a technician, who said that it has to be done by an authorized service center, and they said that since my copier is under warranty, I can bring it to a local service center to have the older firmware version 1 reinstalled. I called the facility, and asked them TWICE if this is a service they can do. They confirmed they can. I brought the printer over and left it for 4 days. Then called them. They said I''ll need to buy a new toner with Samsung brand. I said that the whole reason why I brought it over is to have the firmware reinstalled, and they had confirmed it can be done. Then today, a Samsung representative called me, saying that they will not allow the old firmware to be installed, as they specifically said in the manual that only Samsung toners can be used in these machines. To me, this is scandalous, to tell owners to install an update to fix a "bug" when the bug is simply the fact that they want to BLOCK you from using non-Samsung toner and drums. This is not a warranty issue with defective equipment, but an issue that SAMSUNG does not want people to use aftermarket or non-samsung products. BAD,BAD,BAD,BAD..... I will not recommend any SAMSUNG products to anyone!

  • Multifunction Black-and-white printer that prints, scans, faxes, and copies
  • Scan in full-color at ultra-high 19,200 dpi resolution

This review is based on usage in a small business where the device is at a satellite office.

This is a good piece of Hardware by HP, but as is typical of HP scanners the software is weak. The printer makes excellent images. The machine is fast from the time you click on print to when the page starts printing, and the printing is fast. This is the highlight of the machine. Two sided copying is excellent. The automatic document feature works well for copy and fax, but the scannning software is a problem.

The first machine I got had a defective fax board, but the store I bought it from let me return it for a new unit. Setup of the machine worked well. You can configure it using a built in web server. You might have trouble finding the machine on the nework, though. Unfortunately it does not respond to ping broadcast packets. You can go to the front panel and go through the menus to print a network report to see what IP address it selected. From there the web access works best to set up the machine. Setting a manual IP address is easy enough from the front panel so you know what IP address to connect to. You can get an optional second paper tray.

While setup of the machine via the web access works well it is limited in that the fax cannot be set up through the web interface. This is unfortunate, since the fax settings are tedious to enter from the front panel. You can use the web interface for the address book, but setting fax settings like address, speed, report settings, and everything else are not changeable except through the front panel.

As far as scanning goes, this is not a push scan device. (A push scan device is one where the scanner does the scan, then transfers to another computer by a network protocol like FTP or SMB). There is a button on the machine to scan, but that just starts up the program you have to install on your computer. The HP scan software is difficult to use and unintuitive. Definitely NOT production environment. It is also bloatwear. Over a thousand files get installed on the computer that serves as the scanning control computer. Also, whenever you scan the document comes out at 17 inches on the computer. The workaround in my setting is to fax to our fax server, which takes the calls and keeps the faxes. In this way I have a push scan option at the cost of a phone call for each scan. But if you have a business you do not want to use this as the document scanner using the HP softwear. I do not know if VueScan works with this device.

If you just need a postscript printer then this will work out of the box. For the advanced features that the printer supports you need to install the postscript driver. It may be possible to install the postscript driver without the scan softwear, which would be best if you have several computers that need to use the printer. I specifically did not install the scan softwear at the satellite location where I use the printer and it works fine as a generic postscript printer. (I installed the bloated HP scanning softwear at the main office where I did the initial configuration)

The printer is the same engine as in the HP LaserJet P2015dn Printer (HP LaserJet P2015dn Printer (CB368A#ABA)). Review there are good for understanding more about the printing function. The cartridge, an HP 53, is shared between this multifunction device and the P2015dn. In a small office having the same cartridge used by different printers simplifies inventory issues.

So, for home use and occasional scanning this is a nice machine, fast to print with very high quality printing. For an office environment it is good as a printer and copier, but the scanning software would choke anyone who needed to do document scanning as part of the business workflow.

I purchased this machine as a replacement unit for a small size company. We have a lot of incoming and outgoing fax. For outgoing fax, this unit will feed the first page then feed about 1/3 of the second page then wait for dialing. It will not scan the whole set into memory first before dialing. Also, we got a lot of fax communication error pages. Many docs are either received or sent incomplete. I downloaded and upgraded the firmware and it still has fax problem. I contacted HP support using online chat and changed error correction and speed settings and I still have fax problem. Ordered and added 256MB memory and still no improvement. Will return this unit for a different brand.

Other notes: the scan is acceptable but slow and too light. Printing/copy function is ok.

This is one of the best printers I have owned. The set up was easy and works quickly and prints, scans, faxes and copies well.

Booklet and double side printing make this really useful.

Downside I cannot scan from Preview and it is noisy.

It works well with iMac and 10.5, some features for Windows are not available but these are minor. Well worth buying. Good for home or small office.

Update June 2011: I will try to clarify some of the issues about this product. It DOES work with the Canon MX-7600; it does NOT work with the Canon MP-830. Amazon has corrected the Canon part number in the product description.

Original review follows:

As some have mentioned, the Canon product number in the Amazon description is not correct. They ought to change it. Here is the accurate information:

Canon PGI-9 and PGI-7 5 Color Ink Value Pack: Canon product code 1034B010

Canon PGI-5BK Twin Pack: Canon product code 0628B009

I first ordered this through PlexSupply since they had a great price. They were selling the PGI-5BK value pack. So I am in the process of returning the pack to them. They were apologetic and offered to have the incorrect shipment picked up at which time they said they will issue a fulll refund. Hopefully this will occur... (Note PlexSupply no longer appears as a provider for this product.)

I then ordered this product from Amazon. The PGI-9/PGI-7 value pack came. So Amazon ships the product consistent with the word part of the product description and not the Canon product code that Amazon incorrectly includes in the description.

The product is excellent. The MX7600 multifunction printer that uses this ink produces outstanding images even in the "fast" or draft mode of printing.

I have seen other inaccuracies with Amazon''s ink compatibility advisor. I have stopped relying upon it. The manufacturer''s website can provide reliable advice on compatibility. So can the owners material that comes with the printer. Then come back to Amazon to place the order.

Amazon''s website listed this ink as working with the Canon MX700 but this ink does not fit that printer. I''m sure the ink is fine when used in the appropriate printer (MX7600).

The price has doubled since I made my purchase just last month!

Lexmark C510 BLACK TONER CARTRIDGE (20K0503) Save 62% off

Lexmark C510 BLACK TONER CARTRIDGE
  • Printers
  • Printer Cartridge - Laser Mono

All three areas Packaging, Product Quality, & Cartridge Recycling are outstanding.

Amazon quickly processed and items were delivered very fast.

This Lexmark Cartridge is for the C510 Color Laser Printer and is extremely easy to replace.

These cartridges come with a package label to return the used cartridge free of charge.

Excellent product all around. The standard Black cartridge prints about 5,000 pages. You can easily keep printing with them even after the printer status alert says "toner Low" until you see the ink fading. You can get about another 500 pages after the low toner alert shows up.

When you receive a Toner Low message (or faded print), you should immediately order a new cartridge to have in stock. In addition, perform the following steps:

Step Action

1 Remove the toner cartridge from the printer.

2 Firmly and carefully shake the toner cartridge from side to side and from front to back several times. This will redistribute the toner.

3 Reinsert the toner cartridge and continue printing.

4 If the Toner Low message remains, or if the print in that color continues to fade, replace the cartridge as soon as practically possible.

I was surprised when I got a great deal on this paper. It was 98 brightness and I didn''t pay a high premium price for it. Xerox is great paper for my Epson printer. It is brighter than 95 and cheaper than HP premium paper which is OK. Paper from Xerox is usually good because it makes prints look great from a long time name in printing.

I didn''t pay $16.00 for it either and prints proofs of my artwork before I send them out

for canvas printing. Vivid colors and I would buy it again. High quality, a bargain price! and a trusted name. It made better prints than my HP 95 white did. I was pleasantly surprised when I found it was 98 brightness Premium Quality!

  • Hybrid Ink System utilizes pigment black ink for crisp text and color dye ink for beautiful photos
  • Borderless 4" x 6" photo in approx. 44 seconds

The overall quality of the printer is very good; better print quality on more types of paper compared to my old lexmark. The single digit LED display seemed a little outdated, but the software interface was clean and lean. The poor rating is due to the frustrating experience you will have when trying to replace the ink cartidges; they are impossible to find at brick-and-mortar stores. The cartriges that are currently stocked seem to be mostly for Cannon MP and MX seriesconsider those printers before buying this one.

I didn''t buy this Canon MG2120 printer online but I bought it at Wal Mart for $38. Perhaps you can find this printer for the same price at your own local Wal Mart or Target. Anyhow, this is one of the cheapest printers you can get and it works really well. I only use it for everyday printing because I''m a student. I use it for printing out Power Point slides for my classes and it works fabulously. It''s pretty silent when it prints too, compared to the noisy HP printer that recently broke down.

This printer met my expectations. It produces good quality copies, both in b&w and color, and it prints at a decent speed. Just make sure to also purchase a USB cord to connect it to the computer, as the standard package does not include on.

Comments:

The Canon Pixma MP270 Inkjet printer is one of the best in its class. The quality of prints are superb and the cost of both the package and the ink cartridges are exceptional. I use it daily for college assignments, work projects, pictures and photocopies. I was tempted to buy the lower version (MP250) locally, but after reading the reviews online at Amazon (for the MP250) I decided to place the order for this model and I haven''t had reason to regret this decision yet. It cost me a bit more, but in the end the purchase was well worth both the cost and wait.

pros: good printer, very good price (got mine at kmart in store for $36.00 new), installs easily, and did not need to align printer heads either, printed just fine upon start. prints blk/white very fast. comes with ink (color/black). only takes 2 cartridges 1 black, 1 color. (i find this to be good cuz it''s less costly in the long run to replace 2 cartridges instead of the usual 4 others take.)

cons: DID NOT COME W/ USB CABLE to connect it to pc. You will need this in order to finish installation. So before you cash out, pick up an a to b usb cable. Any universal one should work, so long as it fits a USB 1.1 port, cuz that''s what this pixma printer has, a usb 1.1. (i was looking for a universal, but store ran out, so i had to spend some $ on a belkin 2.0. More then what i need, but it''s compatible w/ the 1.1) Does not come w/ paper. Make sure you buy a ream. (It has 5 sheets of some very small glossy like stationery, maybe for photo''s, not sure. def very small though.)

First off, I''m a college student who uses this printer for school work, and few other things (resumes, coupons, few photos). This printer is a GREAT value; it prints awesome photos (and I highly recommend the Canon photo paper, a few sheets come included with the printer), it''s very RELIABLE, the scanner is good quality, and the ink is easy to find/buy. However, like most, this printer does eat up a lot of inksomething that is to be expected with an inkjet.

If you print a lot, I''d be the first to recommend looking into a laser printer, but if you don''t use your printer on a daily basis it''s really a great printer for the money.

For the price of this thing, it delivers what you would expect. My complaint is not with the quality of the prints, they are good for documents, although falls short of great for photographs. Although at this price point few would expect stellar photo prints.

But beware of Canon''s dishonesty. I bought my printer in Europe, and bought new ink through Amazon. The ink number matches the printer model, but still doesn''t work. Turns out that Canon has divided the world into regions (if this sounds like the movie industry, you know what the motivation is). My printer will not accept ink sold in the US, only ink sold in Europe. Obviously this allows Canon to sell ink at a much higher price in Europe and eliminate parallel imports. And yet, nowhere do they provide this information. Until after you buy the ink, discover it doesn''t work, and contact support. Great way to look after your customers Canon! Good thing there are HP, Epson, Samsung, Nikon, Xerox etc to cover ones future needs.

  • Special markings on the back of the paper select the optimal printer settings and prevent wasted prints.
  • Resists water, smears and smudges, making this paper a good choice for printing in humid environments.
  • Instant drying for quick photo handling and stacking.

I have tried other photo matte paper and they do not compare to this paper. It is professional quality! No one would ever know that I print my own pictures on this paper. It may be a little pricier than other brands but it is more than worth it.

This paper is about identical to the 4x6 version in every way but size. Prints from my PhotoSmart Pro B9180 are outstanding, sometimes you just need a big print for extra wow, this is it. The matte finish is excellent for portrait photography where sometimes glossy paper can be too punchy.

Want HP Q5462A Advanced Satin-Matte Photo Paper Discount?

I would have given this paper 5 stars but for the cost. But if compared to other high quality printer papers, it is pretty much in line.

I have an HP B9180 and with this paper it produces the most beautiful large photos I have ever seen. I doubt a photo lab could do better. I am very pleased with the quality of this product.

I use this paper on a regular basis with my HP B9180 pro printer (HP 38 pigmented inks). Prints are gallery quality. Well worth the price.
