My local retailer has the same cartridges with "January 2009" as the date.
I thought I was being proactive by buying extra cartridges and but I doubt I will use these in 6 months.
Next time I purchase a product with a limited shelf life I think I will stick with a local retailer so I know that I am getting a newer product.
Amazon If you all are reading the reviews... For products with a limited shelf life figure out a way to let your customers know this ahead of time. Also consider discounting products that are nearing the end of their shelf lives. Otherwise you won''t be able to compete with local retailers.

This is the best price I''ve found for HP 98 black ink cartridges in the two-pack. I would prefer to buy a re-manufactured cartridge, but, if you own an HP 6000 series inkjet printer, you''re aware the machine won''t work with any other cartridge brand. (Had I known this before I bought the printer, I would have chosen another brand, but am stuck with it for a while.)Therefore, if I can save a bit on the expensive ink cartridges, I''m pleased. I was glad to find the twin-pack at a better price on Amazon than at a local store.Read Best Reviews of HP 98 C9514FN#140 Ink Cartridge Here

Came in bubblewrap so no damage done to cartridges. Ordered 4 so we assume they are all in working order. This is our 2nd time of ordering this product. A repeat customer should say it all. This product works great. I would recommend this to anyone with a d4160 HP printer that would like to print things.

After trying every kind of paper cutter out there including straight edge and Exacto knife, this one wins for accuracy and it''s ability to handle heavy stock. It cuts Hahnemuhle 308 watercolor paper with ease. No complaints.I have used a small roto trim for at least 16 years and it is still going strong. But I needed a bigger trimmer for bigger projects and so it was not difficult for me to decide on the larger 24-inch cutter. It is far superior over other type of cutters. And with some research on the net I was able to buy this unit new at a large discount.Brother QL-720NW Professional, High-speed Label Printer (QL720NW) Save 56% off

All of our PC''s are very new and run Windows 7 with MS Office 2010. I had the worst time getting the editing software to load and when it finally loaded it crashed. The Brother tech support kept referring me back to their web site for answers. They were absolutley no help at all. In the end I had to uninstall Office 2010 and load it after the Brother software. It was a shot in the dark but thank God that worked. If I could have sent it back I would have! Works well. I have it hooked in to our network and everyone can print to it through Terminal Services, as advertised. The software that comes with it is hoaky at best. Labels print, but in the ''snap mode'' where you can just copy and paste an address to get a quick label, I can''t figure out how to change the font/typeset on the labels. I wish it worked with some other choices for postage too. But for an address label printer, it''s just fine.Want Brother QL-720NW Professional, High-speed Label Printer (QL720NW) Discount?
Labels don''t get any easier than this. Well worth it even for only a few labels a year. Simple to set up and versatile BUT you cannot use BOTH wired Ethernet and wireless at the same time. You have to pick one or the other at setup time.Feeding new rolls also very simple. Takes even less skill than writing your name in the snow.I got this printer to connect to the company''s iPad to print Guests Badges. However, the only app on iPad that could print to this printer is Brother App. Since this printer doesn''t support AirPrint, no other apps could communicate with it. Used this fax machine in a site construction office for a 5 Million dollar school remodel project. Is a real workhorse without no jams, down time or trouble of any kind. Great machine.Pros: Laser so faxes are crisp and clear and cost to operate is really cheap. No problem with operation, worked for 2 years on project with several thousand faxes. Can do one touch faxes or group send, all the features you would want.
Cons: I can''t think of any, it worked in a very dirty environment, dusty construction site and is still working.
Want BRTPPF4100 - Brother IntelliFAX 4100 Fax Machine Discount?
We purchased two of these machines and after about 6 months began having trouble with both. One of them always pulled multiple sheets of paper and jammed when receiving faxes or printing copies. After replacing just about every roller in there, it worked for a few months, and now it''s back to jamming again. The other fax was more reliable until just a month ago, when recipients began complaining of a black stripe down the side of their fax. We followed Brother''s recommendations and cleaned various parts inside, but the only thing that fixed it was unplugging and pluggings back in the power. Even then, it was only a temporary fix. A local repair shop estimates around $150 to repair what the think is a bad scanner.
Maybe I just got a bad batch of these, but I would suggest caution before buying one.Product is perfect in every way except it is not compatible with Windows Vista 64bit. After upgrading my laptop, I can''t print to this unit any longer.

FYI, I''m using this with two Win7 64bit PCs and an Actiontec router which is supplied by Verizon FiOS.
PROS
I won''t mention the obvious features, as they''re easy enough to spot reading the main description of the printer and looking at the pictures.
It''s very well packed! I doubt the standard "fling it up there on the porch" approach that some delivery guys take would hurt this thing.
Comes with a (short) USB cable where most printers these days do not. Since I hoped to use it wirelessly, it was nice to have a cable included for initial setup rather than buying one separate. See the cons below for more info on the USB cable.
Setup in Win7 64bit was a breeze! I just followed the directions. That got the wireless part setup. From there, my other Win7 64bit PC easily found it on the network. Now they can both print to it.
It works with WPA2! I didn''t have to downgrade my wifi network to use the less-secure WEP. (It does work with WEP for sure, and it seems to work with WPS, too.)
Upon changing my wireless settings, I just plug the printer USB back into the PC and run the HP wireless config. The software gives me the option to enter info manually or have the printer auto-detect network settings from my PC. Both ways seem to work.
The document feeder on top works fine for copies. I''ve used it a few times now without any jams or failed copies.
The ID copy feature is awesome! It lets you fill up a single page with incremental scans of smaller images without printing more than one sheet ... and all from the printer, no PC software-based editing required.
The control panel is adjustable, so you can tilt it up. It makes it so much easier to see if you have the printer set below eye level.
While shopping, I read some reviews/reports that other wifi printers wouldn''t wake up from standby mode to print. I''ve had no such problems with this M1217nfw if the power button is on, it will wake up and print when told.
CONS: To me, these are negatives, but they''re nowhere near bad enough to make me regret buying this printer. I can''t say if they''d be deal-breakers for other folks or not.
The included USB cable is very short, something like 2 feet. If you plan to use this via a USB cable, be prepared for the back of the printer to be within 2 feet of the USB port on your PC. That could be tricky for some folks'' computer desks. (You could buy a longer cable, I suppose, but that makes the total cost higher.)
There isn''t really a "paper tray" at all. There''s a fold down door at the bottom of the front. You lay it down and put the blank paper in there. It sits there, exposed to light and air and dust and dog hair. I will have to take the paper out and close the door if I don''t plan to print for a while. The lack of a drawer-type tray that slides completely under the printer means it''s not quite as easy to be "on demand printer" at this house.
The normal toner cartridge (not the intro one it ships with) has something like a 1600 page yield and seems to be $50-$60. That seems on the expensive side of cost-per-page for laser printers. If you do a lot of printing be sure to consider that.

I decided to go with a laserjet after my HP inkjet wouldn''t print black/white documents because a color cartridge was empty.Setup with the printer was very easy and no CD is required. It comes with a 3'' USB cable and you just connect it to the PC and a dialog box asks which type of install you would like to perform (wired network, direct USB connection, or wireless). I did the wireless connectionso I had to enter in the password for the printer to get on which is all configured through the PC. Overall, the total install and setup took about 10 minutes.
I did change the amount of time for the printer to enter the sleep mode. The default was 15 minutes and I changed it to 5 since I don''t print as often. You change this by right clicking on the printer and going to the properties menu on your PC.
For printing, the text is very clear. Images are pretty good as well. I printed directions and maps and from google and everything looked clear. I love how fast the printer is. Even when the printer is in sleep mode, it starts printing in less than 10 seconds.
I scanned one file so far to test it out. I performed the scan wirelessly which is a nice feature. I didn''t play around with the resolution but the image didn''t seem as clear as my photosmart all-in-one. But, for what I plan to use it for I think it works great.
The document feeder also works well so far (I only tested once) and I haven''t tried the fax yet.
The only complaint I have, is that I wish it had auto-duplexing. Overall I am happy with the purchase. I also bought it directly from HP since they had $ 30 off plus an additional $ 50.

I do tons of printing for work and really needed to buy a laser printer that had a really low cost per page. I researched monochrome laser printers for a couple of weeks before buying this one and I really like this one, it is my first laser printer and much cheaper per page than any inkjet. I actually based my decision on the cost of the toner cartridges. HP''s toner cartridges are expensive, but the 85A has been out for a while and there are some really inexpensive and good quality generic cartridges 2 Pack: Compatible HP CE285A Laser Toner Cartridges. I purchased a pack of 2 for about $25 and when I installed it the printer recognized it as genuine hp. The printer is a bit loud but I can live with that. It prints bout three to three and a half reams of paper with the starter cartridge. In my opinion you can''t go wrong with this printer. It has a document feeder which can scan to pdf, one of the functions that I use a lot and the wireless printing is seamless I haven''t had to reset the printer or my computer because of a freeze-up. I have it connected to three computers and an iPad and they all work great with it. If you don''t mind it being kind of loud then this is your best bang for your buck.Want HP LaserJet Pro M1217nfw Monochrome All-in-One Printer Discount?
The document feeder for this product does not work. Never worked even once. HP support instructionsThis is a hardware issue. The paper goes quarter of the way and display shows the error "Doc feeder mispick". The same set of paper scans in other scanners without any problem.ive noticed alot of other reviewers had problems with using all the features of this printer. Ive managed to get everything working. i have the printer wirelessly connected to my network and i can scan print & fax from my macbook pro running lion.
Heres what i had to do:
1. download the updated printer firmware from hp site and install via usb cable.
2. download the driver installer from hp site(do not use the included cd) install via usb.
3. go to system prefs>print&scan> select your printer then go to options and supplies.go to the utility tab and open printer utility. You should now be in the onboard browser. go to the networking tab and configure the settings to connect to you wireless network. when the printer is connected, close the browser.
4. remove the usb cable and uninstall the printer from system prefs.
5. re-install from the installer you downloaded in step 2. choose network when it asks. when it finishes you should have everything working fine.
Hope this helps anyone whos been having a hard time.

When I opened the box and lifted out the printer, I thought something was wrong; it was too light! Maybe they left the mechanism out? But no, nothing was wrong. After removing the shipping tape, I took the ink cartridge with its simple install diagrams printed right on top, pulled out the toner seal and inserted it into the printer. I plugged the E312 in and inserted the USB cable and hit the operator button to get a test page, which came out beautifully. This whole process took maybe five minutes.
Since Linux was running, I ran the Gnome print queue tool, which is an easy Windows-like dialogue box, and added the Lexmark as a postscript printer. I then printed a test page from the dialogue box and a web page from Opera browser. Both worked perfectly. The Linux setup was all of five minutes.
I next rebooted to Windows ME, inserted the CD-ROM, and let it rip. This process was a bit slower than Linux and included an automatic download of the latest drivers from the Lexmark web site. After persuading Windows to stop trying to reinstall the printer every time I rebooted, I finally had everything working in both operating systems.
What else can I say about this printer? It is fast and quiet and handles everything I''ve thrown at it with equal competence: web pages, Finale music scores, Microsoft Word documents. Its toner cartridge is rated for thousands of pages, its Postscript and PCL compatibility allow it to handle any kind of graphics and text, and its user interface is simple. This is what a small office printer should be like. The molded icons on the sheet feeders remind the user which way the paper should face, it''s got two separate feeders with variable width adjustable trays for envelopes and other items, and an extra straight paper path for heavier paper.
My only complaint so far is the paltry 4M of memory that comes by default; heavy graphics jobs will require more memory, and Lexmark charges top dollar for memory upgrades, but one can add up to 64M if needed. A 16M upgrade costs $150 from Lexmark, but I''ve heard on the internet that you should be able to use a standard 72-pin SIMM which would be maybe one third or one fourth the price.
All in all this is a fine example of how to do things right: a well engineered, well documented machine that is almost effortless to set up and use. Lexmark got it right with this one.
12-4-2005 Revision
All of the above continues to be true with one major exception: the paper handling is flawed. When the printer started sucking 2, 3, or even 10 pages through at a time, I thought it was something I was doing wrong, but repeated calls to technical support did nothing to fix the problem ("riffle the paper, use only clean new paper", etc.). Therefore I must say that Lexmark''s Optra E312 has a flaw. Since the printer is discontinued one can only hope that later models don''t have this problem, but I am probably not going to get another Lexmark to find out.

My department placed about 15 of these and the earlier E310 model on user''s desks over the past 9 months or so. We''ve been very happy with them thus far. Our goal was to displace as many inkjets in the department as possible (inkjets cost a small fortune on a per page basis) and the E312 has been excellent in this role.Since this printer''s "little brother", the E210 came out, we have standardized on it. It is a bit cheaper and is actually rated slightly faster at 12ppm. The E210 also seems a bit smaller if desktop space is a concern.I have owned this little printer since 2001(ish). To date, I have used it for low volume printing (eg. 1 batch per month in recent months though it used to print large 500+ volumes early on), and it has never failed me. I''ve never had to replace any components on it (no ink cartridges, toner, etc.). It has been connected to multiple generations of Linux, Windows, and MacOSX computers in my household during that time period with no problems whatsoever. The printer is solid, and I would definitely recommend this little guy for anybody who works from home, or is looking for a reliable printer that you won''t have to replace ink cartridges every year.
Be sure to use the recommended heavy paper. If not, the printer will struggle somewhat and sometimes end up with a clog. If you use the recommended paper weight, you will have no problems whatsoever.

One issue unresolved for me is the archival quality of the paper. The chart on the box equates it with wet chemistry photo papers, and then only if kept under glass. The chart seems designed to move you up-market to HP Premium papers, which are not compatible with Vivera ink. How much of archival properties is determined by ink and how much by substrate? In this case, I guess only time will tell, unless HP publishes a clearer specification.
At $0.40 per sheet for letter size, I consider this paper a bargain. Watch the office supply store ads, as HP inkjet paper frequently goes on special at these places.

Very good quality and value for the price after rebate. Only downsides are"1. Size-it is very large and you will want to hook it to a wireless and stash it somewhere out of the way.
2. I "wakes itself up" every so often when not being used and runs for a 5 seconds. This is very loud and annoying.
3. Since Lexmark is very big on copyprotecting its cartridges and bring lawsuits against anyone who trys to make generics for them, you will not be able to find affordable replacements, so ebay or toss it when the cartridges run out.

This printer is a piece of junk. I bought it specifically to print out our wedding invitations. When I went to print out our test invites, they were coming up with a faint gray background and gray streaks across the paper. It was like someone had slightly rolled over the paper with rolling pin with ink on it. I called technical support about the problem. They had me change several different settings on the printer, none of which solved the problem. They then asked me to mail them print samples to Lexington, KY. Here I was needing to print my wedding invitations, and they were having me mail print samples back and forth. I mailed them the samples and they call me back the next week to tell me that the technician has determined that the printer is defective. Fine, I say. When can I get a replacement? They told me that they won''t replace the printer with the same model, because this model has too many defects. But I can upgrade to another model for $200 more or I can request a refund. I opted for the refund and faxed them a copy of my invoice on August 28th, 2007. They sent a courier to pick up the brick of a printer. It''s now October 12th, and I have no printer and no refund. I ended up having to take my invitations to a printer and spent almost $400 for something I should have been able to do at home. I called Lexmark again yesterday and spoke to the supervisor, "Pete." Pete told me that he would contact the concerns department and call me back today. I asked how I could get into contact with the concerns department directly, and Pete told me that they don''t have a phone number for them. Needless to say, Pete never called me back today. So I called in again, sat on hold for 20 minutes, and asked for Pete. "Max" tells me that Pete has already gone home for the day. He then looks through my case and tells me that they won''t issue a refund until they receive confirmation from the courier that the printer has been picked up, and they haven''t received that yet. It''s now been 2 months since my printer broke. I''ve got no printer and Lexmark is holding onto the $600 that I paid for it. Do not do business with these people!Want Lexmark C534N Color Laser Printer Discount?
I bought this printer and it ran fine for a month. Then the photo-conductor had a problem. Support indicated they would ship a replacement and I would be a happy camper. Now 4 weeks have passed by and the part has not shown up. I called them repeatedly and was always told that it would ship in the next 2 days. Finally I got fed up and thought I would just go out and buy it. And guess what, nothing was available to buy. Not from Lexmark and not from the 3-4 dealers I called. Finally I came back to Amazon and it seems they have 3 in stock. So I am going to get 1 ( I hope). But it is amazing that a printer company can be out of consumables for a recent and relatively high end printer for this long. Just makes me wonder if the management has it together.
Their stock seems to be tanking. This is my first Lexmark. Seems I should have stuck with HP etc.Quality of the print is excelent.
The 6k cartridges should last for an average user a pretty long time and the refill costs are comparable to other brands. Hopefully you do not have to replace the cartridges at one time.
Anyhow the best is that the cartridges are not drying out as with inkjets (I had to trow out four ink jet printers because they dryed out).
Another factor that made me to pick this printer is the speed which is at least two times than other leading brands in the same price range.
A small negative is that if in standby it takes about 1.6 minutes to start printing the first page but for me it''s not a problem as the printer is in another room so until I get to pick it up is done.
Pros: quality, speed, does not dry out
Cons: None

So I decided to help the patchouli puffs out, and go Earth-friendly year round. Somebody has to help Mother Nature while the hippies are off growing their dreads and writing haikus about psychedelic hacky sacks.
If there''s a better way to save the planet than making paper out of elephant poop, I can''t think of it. First, it saves trees. Second, it makes elephant habitats smell a LOT better. Third, there are now people pn the planet whose job it is to collect jumbo Dumbo droppings for making this paper.
Think about that. These people HAD to be virtually unemployable before. If your primary skill is harvesting animal poop for fiber strands, you''re very probably out of work, penniless, and mooching to survive. That''s a huge strain on the planet now alleviated, thanks to this turdball stationery company. Kudos.
As for the product, it has a million and one uses. Need to write a Dear John letter? Poop paper gets the message across. Printing directions for your in-laws? Dung''ll do it, junior. Handing out resumes that employers will say is crap, anyway? Now it''s literally true! They may not hire you -but you made them hold poop.
Can you ask anything more from an Earth-friendly product? The answer is no. No, you cannot.

This is a nice ream of paper, and since I had been trying to get this type of paper for a while with little success, I was glad to find it on Amazon. Though on hindsight, 100 sheets for 30 bucks is a bit too much to pay in my opinion.Quality: Well it certainly isn''t as smooth as a ream you''ll get at Staples, but then that''s part of the attraction. I found that it has somewhat large particles dispersed in the sheets, making writing a bit jumpy at times as your pen hits those places. The only other thing I noticed was the thickness of each piece is not standard. While one piece may be card stock thickness, another may be nearly see through. So far though, as writing paper, this has not proven to be a problem yet.
Overall, I like the paper. The downsides are minimal, but I probably wouldn''t pay 30 bucks for 1 ream again.

I could''nt afford to spend a thousand dollars for a printer. Basically I needed a laser printer to print my manuscipts and to get away from the annoying inkjet printers. I was losing money from the inkjet because of the costley cartridges. If you do not use them within 6 months, the cartridges dry up. No need to worry about that with a laser printer. I have been very pleased with the Brother. It performs and looks good. I certainly did not find this printer in Office Depot or Office Max. Glad I shopped with Amazon to purchase this item. Quality merchandaise for the money. Time will tell if this printer will hold up with continuous usage.Read Best Reviews of Brother HL-1435 Laser Printer Here
I picked this printer over the others from Samsung and HP in the sub $200 level because of the black & sliver color, which was probably not the best way to choose in hindsight. I''m using the printer with a parallel cable on Windows 2000 and the performance is great. The warm up time is short, probably 10-12 seconds, and it actualy does print @ 15 PPM on text and close to that on .pdf files with a mix of text and graphics. On large documents it only stops to reload the memory about every 50-60 pages and the paper tray is quite large for this price range. On the first toner (~3000 pages) I only had one paper jam using cheap copy paper. To load small media, such as labels and letters, there is a seperate tray with plastic slider guides which is quite handy and works perfectly.I have only experianced one major problem and it was probably not due to Brother''s design. I was printing when the power went down and when I tried to turn the printer back on I found that it had had a CPU fault. The tech support Brother had on the matter was friendly, but a bit long winded in that I spent 30 minutes going through the same procedures for hard reset over and over. They did replace the printer under warrenty (purchesed from Amazon) with second day Fedex and paid for return shipping, which I thought was more than reasonable. All in all my experiance has been possitive and I would definitely purchase again.

It is very easy to install this printer with CD instruction. The speed of printing is sufficient for personal use. In addition, I think that Brother toner is cheaper and has availability to print more sheets of paper than others. So, I think that this printer is best for personal use. If you use USB cable, it must be shorter than 6 feet.I purchased this printer 6 months ago. I had been very satisfied with it up until recently. Unfortunately, three issues have come to light that you should know about before buying this printer.First, Brother shipped my printer with a cartridge low in toner. Though I''ve had this printer about 6 months, I''ve actually only printed only several hundred pages with it over that time (the cartridge is supposedly good for 3,000). So imagine my surprise when the printer indicated it was low on toner. Since it''s past the 6 week toner cartridge warranty, Brother refuses to rectify this situation and insists that I pay them another $70 for another toner cartridge. I guess that''s why they can get away with selling their printers so cheaply--they can force you into shelling out more money just as your warranty runs out. I even had a low level technical support rep admit that they intentionally ship their printers with a low cartridges (he called them "tester" cartridges)!
Second, this printer is designed in such a way that when the printer senses that it is low on toner, it will NOT PRINT AT ALL. THERE IS NO WAY TO OVERRIDE THIS FEATURE. It is not a driver issue, but a hardware one. In my case, I was about to leave for the airport and needed to print out my presentation notes. But the printer absolutely refused to print! It was midnight and I was leaving first thing in the morning, so I couldn''t just go out and get a new cartridge. You can take out the cartridge, shake it around it bit, and MAYBE get one or two more copies out of it. But other than that, you simply CANNOT print when the toner is "low" (even though there IS toner left in the cartridge!). So if you don''t have an extra cartridge on hand when the printer decides that your toner is "low", you''re in trouble! This is a maddening feature of this printer. Brother says it''s to "preserve print quality," but I''d prefer if they''d let the user decide when she or he wants to "preserve print quality" versus printing nothing at all! I''ve never had a printer do this. I could print for weeks (even months) when my old NEC laser printer indicated it was "low" in toner. If I had known that this was not the case with this printer, I would not have purchased it. It''s simply another way for Brother to get more money out their customers with their overpriced printer cartridges.
Third: Brother customer support. While it was quick and courteous at the first level of technical support, it is slow and irresponsive beyond that. My complaint about the low printer cartridge was "escalated" twice--I was promised a call back on two occasions from two different managers. It''s been over two weeks and no call backs!
Caveat emptor. My advice? Don''t be wooed with the low price--keep shopping!
