Konica Minolta Magicolor 2400W Color Laser Printer (5250220-100)

Konica Minolta Magicolor 2400W Color Laser Printer
  • 2,400 x 600 dpi resolution in black and color
  • Up to 5 ppm color, 20 ppm black print speed
  • 35,000-page maximum monthly duty cycle
  • 32 MB standard memory
  • USB 2.0 interface, optional Ethernet; PC compatible

This is the second Konica-Minolta Magicolor color laser I have purchased. The first was a 2430DL which I purchased for my office. Basically the printers are the same except that the 2400W does not have ethernet connectivity, or an LED read-out (the printer messages from the 2400W pop up in a window on your computer screen), and the 2400W costs about $100 less.

Printing quality is the same on both units. Warm up time is quick, pages come out fast, and quality is good. Text quality is excellent. We also have a $10,000 color laser at work and the Konica units print text just as well and graphics almost as well.

Obviously I liked these printers enough to buy a second one, however I only give the product 4 stars because neither my 2430DL or the 2400W worked right out of the box and the accompanying "documentation" (if you can call it that) is a total joke.

Installation of my 2400W conked out with a message saying, and I quote: "Put Cyan toner". Huh? I opened up the unit and the magenta toner was on top. The rotate toner cartridge button refused to work and, as I said before, the manual is useless. I had to call tech support. Eventually we discovered that the magenta and cyan toner cartridges were switched. When switched back the unit performed perfectly.

Installation of my 2430DL appeared to work but the prints initially were faded and the toner rubbed off. Another call to tech support revealed that two clips that are supposed to hold the paper tightly against the fuser were not down all the way. When these were seated properly the unit functioned perfectly.

The installation instructions contain one page of sketches that look like they were made by a grade-schooler. Worthless. The thick "manual" consists of only one-quarter of one page of generic information which is repeated a bazillion times in a bazillion different languages, 4 per page. Curious, but utterly worthless.

On the plus side, Konica''s tech support is excellent. The calls are toll-free, I only had to wait on hold a few minutes each time, and I got to speak to native English speakers who were very knowledgeable, polite, and helpful.

Here are a couple of other tidbits which may be of interest. The 2400W only connects via a USB cable, which is NOT included. Also, the printer uses 4 toner cartridges: black, cyan, magenta, and blue. The combined cost of theses cartridges is almost as much as the printer sells for at discount office stores. And... the toner cartridges which come with the printer are "starter" cartridges which are only one-third full, so get ready to spend some $$$ on replacement cartridges.

Power consumption on this unit is high compared to my previous home laser (an HP Laserjet 6L). When the Konica unit is switched on my room lights flicker constantly, even when not printing. So I turn the thing off after every use. Normally you can leave it on all the time and it will go into power saver mode by itself after about 20-30 minutes (by the way, you will have to get used to the loud clunk it makes when going to sleep initially it will scare you because 20 minutes after making a print you have forgotten all about the printer, and, as I say it is a LOUD clunk!)

Both the 2430DL and the 2400W have a paper tray with a complete enclosure, which is very nice for keeping the paper clean and out of the way.

Duplexing is manual. You have to print one side then put the sheet(s) back into the printer upside down for the second side.

So, in summary: some installation headaches, great tech support, worthless documentation, but very nice printing, especially for the money.

Buy Konica Minolta Magicolor 2400W Color Laser Printer (5250220-100) Now

I bought that printer because I was sick and tired of ink jets:

* There would always be clogged heads and print output with horizontal bands

* You would use most of the expensive ink cleaning the heads

* The ink would run out in middle phrase without any prior warning, as opposed to the progressive fading of a laser

* You had to wait for the paint to dry

* The result was not waterproof

* Photo quality requires expensive paper

I was almost buying the Oki 5050. The Oki is fast even in color mode and has relatively inexpensive toner. But the 2400W was positioned as a photo printer and was just US$300! I ended up with the 2400W.

This is a great printer for home/home office use. It does print very decent photos even in plain paper. The results are even better with a light (90 g/m2) or matte (167 g/m2) photo paper. My mother stopped complaining that I don''t give her enough pictures of the kids.

I have only a few complains:

* The toner is expensive. You can buy a 1500-page "standard" cartridge for US$70 each or a 4500-page "high capacity" cartridge for US$120 each. Since I don''t print a lot of stuff, this is ok with me. Interestingly, the set of 4 "standard" cartridges might cost more than a brand new printer that comes with the same cartridges!

* It cannot print a photo at full page size (Letter, A4) at maximum resolution (2400 X 600) because of lack of memory (it''s not expandable); I have to settle with the still decent 1200 X 600 resolution. The most you can get at full resolution is 1/3 of a page.

* It does not come with an Ethernet print server and is incompatible with the Linksys PSUS4 print server that I bought.

Both of the last issues above are addressed at the 2430DL that costs about US$100 more, so I think you should consider that model instead.

We decided to purchase this printer for our small business to take the load off of our all-in-one inkjet. Originially we were going to get a monochrome laser, but for the price of this printer, it was hard to resist the upgrade, and the color is occassionally usefull for our purposes. Anyways, to the machine itself.

The Printer is well packaged, but the documentation is very poor. English is sparce in the manuals, hard to find, and lacking in information. The tech support is good, however. The printer comes all set up and ready to go, except for the lack of an included USB cable, which I found disappointing, since the box does not state this. The initially driver installation process is finicy, but the installation guide is clear enough to walk you through it.

The printer does a fantastic job with monochrome prints. The warm up time is only 5-10 seconds, and the pages come flying out with perfect quality. The printer has large capacity trays for it''s price point, which makes it nice for small businesses. I talked to a tech support technician before I bought, and one thing he told me was to set the printer to B&W mode when I was printing purely B&W documents, as to not waste color toner and time. I set the default to B&W, and change in printer settings as needed.

Now the color is not perfect photo quality. It is great for most business purposes, and can produce good color drafts much more effectively than an inkjet on fast draft. Colors are fairly vivid, and pixilation is not overly noticable. And although the paper tray is adjustable, I could not get it to setup to print properly on precut 4x6 photo paper, though standard sheets work flawlessly.

The biggest scare about purchasing this printer is networking. I want to clear this up. No, there is no ethernet jack, but the printer can be shared over a network with other comptuers using windows, and the disk to put drivers on the other computers. Follow the windows steps, not the drivers steps. However, error messages, etc. are all displayed through the status program, which only works on the computer the printer is directly hooked up to. I have also heard this printer does not work with a print server, but sharing does work, at least with Win2000 and later, probably Win9x.

Although the printer is not overly loud for a laser, it makes some strange clunking noises occassionally, that almost sound like it is breaking itself. You get used to them over time, however.

Overall, this is a great printer for the home user who needs a primary black, but occassional color printer, or a small business. This is not a large scale network printer, but for the price, it''s speed, print quality, efficiency, and small scale ability make it a great choice for many looking for the benefits of laser.

Want Konica Minolta Magicolor 2400W Color Laser Printer (5250220-100) Discount?

I read as many reviews as I could before purchasing this printer, but after having owned it for 7 months, and dealing with Konica with 5 service calls and having it replaced once, I cannot endorse this product whatsoever.

I understand printer life, I have owned several through the years, and I understand that they basically give away printers to make a profit on the toner. That given, the sensor design for this printer is a significant irritation to the consumer and Konica tech support has been, sadly, rude. It is supposed to be a helpful feature that you are notified when supplies are running low. But, even though there is still life in the cartridge or drum, you get a pop-up warning that it is low and you are forced to override the pop-up again, and again, and again, which is silly when you want to simply print documents. You can get a couple hundred pages after a sensor goes out(preset on the cartridge based to go off at a set time), but you will have to override this pop-up for every single one. Konica does not see a problem with this, and suggests you just replace the consumable ($80 for toner, $150 for drum). They don''t care there is still product left which you paid dearly for, the sensor is god. I do not think a design that allows a sensor to override what the consumer can see as still beautiful printing and harasses them on each page is something to continue using. Yes, it may be low, but let me use the remaining in peace! I am an easy-to-acquire loyal customer to gain but two times I have had technicians who were flat out rude and left me speechless that they were even hired to represent a company. I have even had a follow-up call about a product replacement (leaking toner cartridge) and when I told them the sensor chip fuse was blown and didn''t register a fresh cartridge (producing it''s own constant set of error messages) they were just happy it wasn''t leaking and ended the call! But at least he was cheerful about it! So sad to say first reviews I read were very promising for this item, but none were by people that actually used it for awhile and so were not accurate. It makes a great print, but design features cripple it from being a product to recommend.

I bought the Konica-Minolta 2400W recently. Initially, the toner did not stick to the paper when using the "plain paper" setting. However, it did stick when using the "thick stock" setting.

How I solved the problem: It seems like the printer is set to print on envelopes out-of-the-box. To get it to print right on plain paper, I opened the top cover. I found two grey "clips" with envelope figures on them (on each side of the fuser [caution hot!]). These clips were originally in the envelope position on my printer. I flipped the clips out of the envelope position to the normal position. The printer worked fine after this. The review by "Wildcatter" was helpful in solving this problem.

The printer prints great, but not as good as my old Epson Stylus Color 900 ink jet did on special paper. However, the speed and, hopefully, the cost per image will make up for this.

Brother MFC-5440CN Network Inkjet Printer, Scanner, Copier, and Fax

Brother MFC-5440CN Network Inkjet Printer, Scanner, Copier, and Fax
  • Prints, copies, scans, and faxes
  • Up to 20 ppm print speed; up to 6,000 by 1,200 dpi resolution
  • Up to 17 cpm copy speed, reduces and enlarges 25 to 400%
  • 1,200 by 2,400 dpi scan resolution, 48-bit color; 3 seconds per page faxing
  • USB 2.0 and Ethernet interfaces; PC and Mac compatible

This is an excellent printer/scanner/fax for the money. I had purchased this as a replacement to an extremely problematic HP 5110.

Install: Installation was extremely easy. Just follow the directions and everything works within about 30 minutes. I really can''t stress enough how easy it was to setup this printer. Whether you set it up with a standard USB connection or ethernet/network, the software does everything for you and the software install only takes around 5 minutes.

Software: The software is really simple and easy to use. The downside to this is that it is somewhat too simple. For advanced users that want more options and customizability, they wont find it here. Also, having the preset scan buttons is a little annoying if you like to change your scan options a lot.

I should also note that you can scan/copy things using either your computer or the buttons on the unit. This is very very smooth and allows you do be able to scan things without having to navigate to the ControlCenter on your PC. If you set up the printer on the network it will also even allow you to pick which PC to send the files to.

Printer: Print quality is right on for this price range. This is not a photo printer, but nevertheless printing onto photo quality paper isnt bad. But at the prices you can get digital photos developed at Walmart or Target nowadays, it doesnt really matter.

Scanner: Scan quality is great, scans up to 6000x1200 DPI. Even 300x300 DPI looks great.

Fax: Unfortunately, I cannot comment on this as I have no reason to fax anyone. But if the scan/print quality is any indication, this would work seamlessly as well.

Ink: This printer uses individual C/M/Y/K cartridges. So when one color runs out, you only have to replace that color. The size of the ink cartridges is pretty big, too, so they last longer. The downside to this is that the print head is not replaceable since they are not part of the print cartridges. So you pretty much have to replace the entire printer when it goes out.

Networking: Another GREAT reason to buy this product is that is comes with built-in networking. This is completely unheard of in other brands in this price range and greatly adds to the value of this printer. You can set it up for wireless use or wire it directly to your router/hub. You can also scan images in and send it to any computer on your network ... directly from the printer!

Price: This is in the $ 100-150 price range, which is more or less the low range for AIO printers. In this range, you pretty much have to choose from Lexmark, HP and Brother. Lexmark printers in this range are really cheap and their ink cartridges are overpriced. HP is very problematic, have smaller ink cartridges and are also overpriced. Overall, Brother is the best buy.

Overall: I''m in love. Not only is this the best printer for the money, but this is a GREAT printer/scanner PERIOD. After this experience all my future printers will be Brother brand. I will never buy Lexmark/HP/etc ever again.

Buy Brother MFC-5440CN Network Inkjet Printer, Scanner, Copier, and Fax Now

First of all, there are few, or maybe no other printers out there that you can just hook up to your network and just start using. Mind you, if you have a print server (Usually if bought separate this is about sixty to seventy dollars) this is not an issue, but many print servers only make the print part of the multifunction machine useful and do not include the scanner for network availability. To me this was a big thing, as I did not want to have this printer in the same room with my computer.

This is a so-so printer. By now you have probably all seen in other reviews that once this printer''s head wears out it is toast, there is no replacing it. Even if the printer were shot you would still have a fax and scanner to use. Printers by then will be even cheaper. I had a Brother MFC7150C prior to this and the replaceable head wore out in a about 2 years with really heavy use. This is the oddity with Brother, the head is resident in the printer and not in the replaceable cartridge. They say this makes the cartridges cheaper, but I don''t find that it makes that much of a difference in the price, especially, if you have to foot the bill for a a hundred dollar head. Mind you this is probably why they opted not to make this printer have a replaceable one.

Sturdyness of this printer is a bit light, the paper cartridge seems frail and is somewhat prone to jamming.

The software was a bit buggy and I had to get updates on the web right away. I installed this in a network where the computers used Window XP and 2000. There was a little bit of messing around, but it quickly got to working.

Given the price it seems like a good buy and I paid a little more than the current price listed here. The print quality isn''t that crisp but okay for reference and college level documents. If you want it for a professional presentation this may not be good enough. However one thing to consider, is given the fact this is not a Picture quality printer, you might also own a picture quality printer and any professional documents could be made on that one, so this printer''s quality wouldn''t be an issue.

Another reason I bought this printer is that the scanner has both a flatbed and feed option. This is cool if you want to scan an article or recipe in a book as well as copy or fax loose paper. My old Brother had only the feed mechanism and this is not useful if you want to scan a bulkier item. However, if you only have a flat bed and have lets say 10 documents to scan, a flatbed can be a chore. This is the best of both worlds.

All in all a good buy considering the price.

I''m not exactly sure why the "Spotlight" reviews for this printer are so positive. Take everyone else''s word for it This printer sucks. I made the mistake of buying 5440 and the 5840 for my business. I can deal with all the paper jams just fine. But the one thing that makes these printers terrible is how alarmingly often you will have to buy printer cartridges for this machine. Make no mistake this is a money pit.

Don''t fall for that nonsense about "saving money because you can buy each color individually." This printer uses the color cartridges even when you''re printing in B&W! AND all the cartridges slowly deplete over time even when you haven''t printed anything at all (they call it "self-cleaning").

And how does Brother add insult to injury? If ANY of the cartridges runs out of ink, it is absolutely impossible to perform any functions until you have purchased a new cartridge and replaced it. Want to send a fax? Too bad, because you''re out of Yellow ink! Want to print a single sheet in B&W? Don''t even try it until you''ve bought another Magenta!

My 5840 died on me after about 5 months. The paper feeder just stopped working, and despite the fact that it was well within the warranty period, I didn''t even bother getting it fixed. I didn''t WANT it to be working. It was costing me that much money. Do not buy this printer.

Want Brother MFC-5440CN Network Inkjet Printer, Scanner, Copier, and Fax Discount?

I got old, first-generation flatbed and sheetfed scanners (6-8 years old) clogging up my desktop, so I started out looking for an inexpensive replacement. After extensive research, I came down on two AIO choices--Brother MFC-5440 and HP Officejet 5510.

I like the Brother better because it''s more solidly built. The HP should print better photos, but these days you can just buy a cheap high-quality photo printer. Since I already have a photo printer, so photo printing capability is not my priority. Don''t take me wrong. The brother still prints fairly good photos.

As I said, scanning is my priority. I was not disappointed. The Brother scans much faster than my old flatbed and the images are far better than my sheetfed. I like the 35 page ADF; the HP Officejet has only a 20 page ADF. What''s more, the Brother comes with PaperPort, which I''ve been using for a long time. The HP Officejet 5510 doesn''t come with it, and I''m not even sure whether PaperPort works with it at all.

Lastly, at this price range, you can''t get an AIO with network capability.

In a word, I''m satisfied with the Brother MFC-5440CN. It''s well-built and well-designed. This is my second Brother home office product I own. While they might not excel in photo printing, overall I think they make good solid office products.

First off, I''d just like to say that the review by G. Long "letranger66" below shouldn''t even be here. It''s a MFC-3820CN, NOT a MFC-5440CN; he should write the review for that product, not this one because the inkjet technology is TWO complete generation apart.

The MFC-5440CN uses the latest cartridge design by brother, the LC-51 series, and the ink cartridges fit into a futuristic area on the southeast corner of the printer, completely apart from the actual print head. The printer then sucks the ink through a tubing system to the print head, so the cartridges are always stationary. The LC41 series is similar to the LC31 series of the MFC-3820CN this poor fellow had... DON''T buy any brother inkjets that use the LC-41 or LC-31 cartridge. I had the unfortunate experience of owning a MFC-3220C that used the LC-41 cartridge. The printer broke and was replaced some 6 times. The service depot said that the print heads used in these older printers were very very finicky and will clog up just like that if you use 3rd party inks, and in many cases, even it''s own ink! Thankfully, it seems Brother has finally improved their print heads, also increasing their max print resolutions as well.

Anyways... Back to this printer.

It prints with decent quality, not the fastest and not the slowest either. But, it has the ease of use. I''ve yet to see any other network printer as easy to use as this one, and allow the full multifunction capabilities through the network.

In addition, Brother has excellent drivers for both Windows and Macintosh, both of which run perfectly in my network with this printer (Yes! Brother''s drivers are CUPS for Macs!!!). Software included for Windows is my favorite, Scansoft Paperport, which usually costs around 90 dollars retail. Software for mac though is a bit lacking, Presto pagemanager 4 is extremely dated and slow.

In all, this printer won''t disappoint for those of you that want a simple to use and setup printer, the installation wizard does everything for you. Ink cartridges are also decently priced and last around 3 months for our family (we print about 5 pages a day). I have been using 3rd party inks with this printer with no problems as well. Photo prints look decent as well, not the best, but passable for the casual printer.

****One gigantic note though! When you''re installing the drivers with windows based computer. DO NOT DO ANYTHING ELSE WHILE THE INSTALLER IS RUNNING!!!! For some strange reason, brother designed the installer to automatically click through those "windows has auto-detected a device" window and fill in the correct values for them. If you run the installer and are doing something else like browsing the internet like I did, the installer will not click on those buttons and the process will just freeze, forcing you to start from square one.

We''ve owned the DR-2050C for about 8 months at our office, shared by 8 users. Setup took an hour or two, but went as smoothly as can be expected. You need to install 3 software programs to be complete. We are using it on an old, spare, Pentium 3 machine. I added a high-speed USB 2.0 card to the machine which definitely gives the scanner better speed. We don''t use all the features but for just scanning loads of old paper, it works great. NOTE: It does pick up dirt easily, causing streaks in the output. The front-side lens is very hard to reach, and the mfr. is very cautious about how to clean it. (Their recommendation did not get the gunk out.) I called their Tech Support and he suggested using alcohol on a cotton cloth to clean the lenses, but must be careful not to get alcohol on the rubber rollers. We clean it regularly now-whenever it shows streaks-and it is fine. I would buy another one for the home, but the price is still too high. Hopefully prices of these things will fall in the future.

I have owned my 2050C for about 3 weeks. Whilst it has integrated quite well into my offices, it did take a 5 hours of frustration, an email to tech support, a 2 day wait for a reply, and a download of the latest CapturePerfect (3.0.30 iirc) to get multipage documents batching to pdf''s without a consistent lockup on or about the 3rd document.

I would have expected this very straightforward feature, which is heavily promoted in the product advertising, would be working out of the box (i.e. off the provided CD) for $500.

Happy to have it functional now, but I suggest you email tech support for the latest CapturePerfect and bin the included CD.

I installed 27 of these in a medium-sized law firm in 2005-2006. In the 3 1/2 years since, only ONE has needed replacement. They''re wonderful units that do a good job of creating OCRed PDF''s quickly. The installation is simple not intuitive but simple. Install the drivers and Capture Perfect and you''re ready to go. The secret to the installation is to leave the CD in the drive and you won''t have any problems. Capture Perfect is a small and quick program without a lot of bloat it doesn''t take over your computer like most of the other scanners out there (think HP).

The rollers need replacing every 4 6 months with constant use but, otherwise, this is a set it up and forget it machine that lasts a long time. The competition is pretty much the Fujitsu ScanSnap but their software package is MUCH too limited (no JPG''s, for example).

If you''re looking for a good stout quick performing scanner for a small office? You can''t go wrong with the 2050c.

Want Canon DR-2050C Color Duplex 20PPM A3 50 Sheet Adf 600DPI USB Discount?

In the old days we used to copy all the documents for our small business and then store them in boxes for at least seven years. Sorting, stapling and putting in order thousands of pages took so much time. Now all we do is scan the documents in pdf format and from time to time back up on DVDs. Canon DR-2050C does the job just about perfectly. Our daily scanning volume is about 100 pages but a couple of days a month we scan more than 1000 pages per day. This is where the small size of the scanner comes in handy. You can easily move the scanner to your desk and while feeding stacks of paper into it have the time and space to do other work. Occasionally the scanner will take two or more pages at a time so it is important to keep an eye on it. Paper jams do happen but not often and it is a real snap to clear them. Cleaning the narrow strip of glass a few times after seeing streaks on the scanned documents is all the maintenance we''ve performed so far. As for the software, we have only used CapturePerfect which works just fine. Sometimes glitches happen when the software takes longer than usual to get ready to scan but that''s no big deal.

I have not (yet) bought the Canon DR-2050C, but studied its specifications. It seems to be equivalent to the predecessor Canon DR-2080C, except for the supplied software and the computer interface. If you can, go back and read the reviews for the DR-2080C. The old model featured both a USB 2.0 and a SCSI-II connection. The new model has only the USB 2.0 interface. The exterior design is also a little different, with the new model being a little more rounded. Let''s be clear: Both are A4/legal size scanners. The talk of scanning A3 documents (11x16 inches) is a software feature that requires you fold your A3 documents to scan front and back at the same time. Software can then stitch the two images together again.

I''ve owned my old Canon DR-2080C for two years now, and have been very happy with it. But I''ve used it a lot, I think I''ve scanned 100,000 two-sided pages (200,000 images) with it, and it is coming to the end of its lifetime, so I''m leaning towards replacing it with the new DR-2050C. Perhaps its nearest competitor, the Fujitsu fi-5110EOX, is a little cheaper but isn''t TWAIN/ISIS compatble.

Epson Ultra Premium Photo Paper LUSTER (S041406) Save 36% off

Epson Ultra Premium Photo Paper LUSTER
  • Ultra premium luster photo paper for ink jet printers.
  • The same type of luster paper traditionally used by wedding, portrait and fine-art photographers for their work.
  • Accurate colors and rich, bold blacks for vivid, lifelike images.
  • Instant drying.

Great print results BUT the 11.7 x 16.5 size which is a common size overseas makes it impossible to find a decent portfolio or even affordable sheet protectors. Currently Amazon has one set of A3 protectors selling at 25 for a 10 pack. That''s nuts. Your only option then is to cut the paper (not always a clean result with luster) or buy an oversized book that leaves your prints swimming.

I have printed on this paper with an Epson 3800 and 4000, and the print quality is great. Even black and white looks fantastic, and there is a minimal amount of bronzing. If you can afford Silver Rag, go with that, but this paper is very nice.

These photo papers are absolutely the best when it comes to quality printing that you want to last! I tried an experiment on the premium luster paper by setting a water glass that was sweating on a photograph I had printed and let it sit for 10 minutes or so. I then removed the glass, blotted the water up and let it dry. When it was completely dry there was barely any sign of a water ring...infact I had to really examine the paper to see the tiny mark that was left behind.

First time ordering this paper, I was tired of the non-recycled papers at all my local office supply stores so I found this cute little company. The paper comes packaged in a plain paper wrapper, not a fancy package like the picture shows (it doesn''t matter to me but I though I should mention it). If you need a pure white, smooth paper then this is not the paper for you. It''s more for letters and documents rather than pictures since it is a light "natural" color and has a subtle texture to it (like the texture that some drawing paper has). At first it ran fine through my printer but I discovered that if I leave the paper in my upright tray the paper curls and then my printer has a lot of trouble feeding it. It has trouble grabbing just one sheet and when it does grab one it enters crooked. I''ve managed to mostly fix this by just keeping my stack of paper in my scanner bed with the lid closed to keep it flat. When I print I''ll take the paper out that I need and put it in the printer and it''ll grab it just fine. I''m not sure if this problem is more of a paper flaw or a printer flaw (I have an epson small-in-one). It seems like it''s more porous than regular printer paper, it sucks the ink right up but still looks crisp.

I really like this paper, it would be great if I can find it in stock near me but if not I plan to re-order when I run out.

Quality paper. Holds up much better then typical paper. Works fine in my printer, though I don''t do a lot of printing. I carry a list in my wallet of things I need to get done and this paper stands up to being folded and unfolded, at least three times better then regular printer paper -I have a list here that''s four months old, no place left to write and it does have dogged edges and some crease splits but it''s just tenaciously holding out. I''m sitting down here to print an update and of course one of the items on my list is feedback on this purchase. I don''t do a lot of printing, so I figured I could justify the cost. Can''t print without paper and I had to buy something -glad to have an option with hemp in it. Feels like it would be great for hand written letters too. I''ve read that hemp doesn''t yellow as quickly as wood paper. I''m happy with this. Positive experience.

I would have left five star feedback on my purchase, but I could not get the feedback to post for some reason. Shipping was fast. I emailed seller on the feedback issue and did get a response, seemed very human to deal with.

Thanks all.

Be real, be sober.

Canon 2945B011 PGI-220 and CLI-221 CMY Ink Save 18% off

Canon 2945B011 PGI-220 and CLI-221 CMY Ink with PP-201 Combo PackCanon makes excellent ink and photo paper so this ink/paper combo is almost the best of two worlds, quality and economy. I''ve never had any negative issues with either Canon inks or photo paper so I have no negative comments about them. I made a costly error a number of years ago by using non-OEM ink to save a buck. Saving a buck on ink cost me a printer which gummed up and quit working due to poor quality ink. Lesson learned, stick with Canon OEM ink for your Canon printer.

Why did I say this combo was "almost" the best of two worlds? What you receive with this combo are CLI-221 tanks in cyan, magenta, & yellow and the PGI 220 black tank as well as 50 sheets of Canon glossy photo paper. You DO NOT get the CLI 221 black ink which is required for the MP-560 and some other Canon printers. I didn''t read as thoroughly as I should have and thought I was getting all four CLI 221 tanks. My MP 560 requires both the pigment-based and dye-based black ink cartridges (pigment for text and dye for photo printing). As I said, it was totally my fault for not reading thoroughly but I do wonder how many others may have made the same mistake. It''s an easy fix, just order a CLI 221 black tank.

Regardless of my error, it is still an excellent value for which you get Canon quality for ink and paper.

This Combo Pack doesn''t come with the CLI-221 black cartridge. If you don''t pay attention to it, you buy presuming it is complete.

This review is an alert. If you want a complete set of cartidges, you have to buy with this COMBO an extra CLI-221 black cartidge.

Great deal, but it wasn''t clear that this set does not include the CLI-221 Black cartridge, which is needed for the Mx860 model and probably others. Seems odd that they would include 4 out of 5 cartridges required for the printer.

I have to post a review because I feel differently than most about the combination of ink in this package. We have had our Canon printer for about 3 years; we run a small business and print mostly text documents, only occasional photos. It has quickly become apparent that the larger black ink tanks (pgi-220) get used up much faster than the small ones.(pgi-221) Even though I don''t use the photo paper, I purposely buy this combo pack BECAUSE it has a 220 in it. I have bought the packages that include all 4 pgi-221 refills, and currently have amassed 4 of the small black inks because the printer just doesn''t use them up! Pay attention to what you''re ordering and you won''t have a problem...

Want Canon 2945B011 PGI-220 and CLI-221 CMY Ink Discount?

Others have mentioned the need to check the listed contents when ordering a combo pack. I agree! I love my Canon MP560 printer and the Canon ink and paper are worth the investment because they give the best results. I have purchased combo packs with all 5 cartridges which is helpful, but the 221 Black cartridge does not run out nearly as quickly so I have 2 extras sitting in my drawer. This particular combo pack is exactly what I need to even things out. So, my advice is to keep looking for the combination of products you need if you want a combo...good chance it''s out there somewhere. I actually bought the 5-pack at Costco.

well , this product has a great price and delivery was fast .

i knew that it was refurbished or remanufactured but my printer is 5 years old and i decided to take a chance .

first when they arrived i found that both had the wrong color guard on the cartridge .

the black ink cartridge had a blue guard and the color ink cartridge had a black guard .

this made every thing confusing because DELL uses the color blue to let you know that this is the color cartridge .

i ran the dell print test and all the color grids passed and all the color was dry with no leaks or smears .

so far my only complaint is the LOW INK ALERT , my DELL printer has not recognized these remanufactured cartridges .

every time i check my ink level it still shows LOW ink from the old cartridges .

Both the HP #15(B&W)as well as the HP #17 (Tri-Color). These HP''s inks are very long lasting. I work with alot of accounting w/having to make numberous pages of copies each mo. ALSO I make dozen''s of varied photos making Collages and practice copies on Double WT. HP Photo paper. Sometimes I wonder if my two 2 Inks are ever going to run out. BUT they haven''T failed me yet, and I''ve been using my same old HP #425c for about 3 yrs. now, and always have used the same HP INKs mentioned about.

The price is also very reasonable esp., a real bargain and the HP #15 because it comes in a double pak. I rarely have to replace these.

I''d recommend both these HP INKs anytime. You can''T go wrong.

Also ink dries before the photos oR B&W copies are finished printing.

Never any waiting for the Inks to dry.

I''d swear this INK goes a long ways or I wouldn''T be using it.

Samsung Electronics CLX-3305FW Wireless Color Printer Save 25% off

Samsung Electronics CLX-3305FW Wireless Color Printer with Scanner, Copier and Fax
  • Its 4 in 1 functionality lets you print, copy, scan and fax in a snap.
  • There''s even one-touch Wi-Fi Protected Setup to help you save time, and an Eco Button to seave paper and toner.
  • With an ultra-small footprint, it fits virtually anywhere in your home or small office.
  • As for brilliant color, it''s ensured by Samsung''s latest image processing and polymerized toner formulation.

A color laser printer is pretty much the only type of printer I haven''t owned before. Although since I have background in IT, I have most definitely used them. Laser, inkjet... dot-matrix, etc. You name it, I''ve used it. :) While the current price does seem like quite a bit, that''s very cheap in comparison to what color laser printers used to cost. So let''s see how this Samsung model does.

OUT OF THE BOX

If you''ve ever opened up a printer box before, you won''t find anything shocking here. You''ve basically got your typical box-shaped laser printer with a 100 pieces of tape and packing material to keep everything secure. It''s compact for a color laser printer, but on-par with most laser printers. Even if you''re an expert at this stuff it still pays to skim over the quick-start guide to make sure you don''t forget any packing material.

There is a power cable, RJ-11 phone cable, power cable, warranty stuff, setup instructions, etc. The 4 toner cartridges are pre-installed, but are easy enough to swap out.

SETUP

As with most high-end printers you can connect it to your physical LAN, wireless, of USB of course. I normally go with the cable but decided to give wireless a try with this printer. To start you will need to connect the USB cable and pop-in the CD. I normally skip the CD and download the drivers, but Samsung''s site was going extremely slow. Not to mention, they''re website for drivers is at least a couple years out of date. Good luck finding what you need!

Fortunately, as long as you have the CD, the software will install and make sure it''s up-to-date for you. I went through the basic wireless setup instructions and in about 5 minutes, I was ready to go. The software isn''t the most user-friendly out there, but it''s should be simple enough for most folks trying to get basic functionality out of it.

CONTROLS

The printer has the standard controls to perform basic tasks such as print, fax, scan & copy. There is a disappointingly old-school monochrome LCD on the front panel. It''s on the small side and not all that easy to read unless you have enough light, and get up close. The menu''s let you do everything you need to from basic to advanced setup.

But I should warn those wanting to jump in there; this will totally confuse a novice user. This menu system layout has been around for decades and is about as good as it gets for type of display. Fortunately the basic controls and setup can be done from the software and you shouldn''t need to ever dig into the menu. But for advanced setup, like setting static-IP''s for example, the on-board controls are the only way to do this.

HARDWARE

As mentioned before, the printer itself is very basic and straightforward. The rear has the standard ports for phone, network, and power. The front panel will give you easy access to the 4 toner cartridges. Which is good, because based on the specs, a heavy printer is going to swap them out quite a bit.

And while on the topic, I always strongly suggest looking at the prices for replacement toner/ink on any printer you are going to buy. Especially laser printers. These things get expensive real quick. Don''t forget, they only include half-filled (or so) toner out of the box.

The paper tray is at the bottom and will protrude a few inches once you add standard sized paper. From the picture, you might assume it stays in there all the way. But it does not. I thought it was broken at first. There is a plastic cover so it doesn''t look bad or anything.

I also have this sitting next to a 4 year lexmark B&W laser printer and the layout is very similar. The way it scans and prints is pretty common these days. Except I think Lexmark''s control layout is a bit easier for somebody to figure out what everything does without having to stare at the buttons for too long.

PERFORMANCE

We can''t forget the most important part of a printer. I''ve already printed several colorful pictures and they look great; even on plain paper. The image is crisp, detailed, and colorful. The printer speed is faster than most inkjets and is more than enough for my uses. I copied a few other items in color with expected results.

I also tested out the wireless mobile printer using my Samsung Galaxy S2 and it worked great. Just install the Samsung Mobile Printer app from the Play Store and off you go. It automatically found my wireless printer and I was printing all kinds of pointless stuff in no time. While I can''t think of many situations where I need to do this, most guests are impressed nonetheless. :)

I wasn''t able to test the fax portion since it''s the year 2012 and I haven''t had a land-line or need to fax something in a very, very long time. But these things haven''t changed a whole lot, so I suspect it will work just fine.

PROS

+ Great print quality

+ Compact design

+ Easy toner swap

+ Separate toner cartridges

+ Mobile printing

+ Wi-Fi, LAN, & USB

+ Simple controls for basic tasks

CONS

Expensive toner

Not the most user-friendly setup

Paper tray sticks out a bit

Ancient monochrome display

Complicated process for advanced setup/config

CONCLUSION

As a technician, I often have to stand back and try to look at product as an "average user" is going to. I think for most folks who follows the setup guide, uses the wizard on the CD, and doesn''t try to get too crazy, it will work just fine. I do wish it had the nice color touch screens that most modern inkjets have and the toner wasn''t so expensive.

But then again, this is a relatively inexpensive home & small office color laser printer. That puts this in a completely different league. So once you take everything into consideration, I think you have a pretty decent and above-average product here and would recommend it to those in the market.

Buy Samsung Electronics CLX-3305FW Wireless Color Printer Now

I really like laser printers compared to inkjet, because of the appearance and durability of the printed product. I especially like that you can use a highlighter on laser printed documents without the ink smudging or running. Try that with an inkjet. My affinity for laser printers usually comes up against the high cost of color laser printers and the lack of Laser all-in-ones on the market. Before getting this Samsung all-in-one, we used to have a black-and-white laser printer and a separate color inkjet all-in-one. That combination took up way too much desk space and was a lot to maintain. It also required a decision each time versus printing to color inkjet or gray laser. A hard choice on some projects. With this offering from Samsung, you don''t have to make those trade-offs.

This, CLX-3305FW, is fast (for the size and price), prints well, and has a very compact footprint. After a couple weeks of use now, only thing that I don''t like about it is the short life of the toner cartridges, especially the ridiculous ''starter'' cartridges that came in the box. You should price out the cost of replacement cartridges when you consider this printer''s price, because you''ll be replacing them soon after it arrives.

Other than the short life of the cartridges, I like everything about this system. It is extremely compact for a laser printer, especially for a color all-in-one. Getting it set-up was fast and easy, and each of its functions work very well. I had no problems hard-wiring it into my Linksys router and getting it installed on all our Windows 7 machines. It scans, prints, faxes, and copies very well. It isn''t super fast, but is fine for home use. The image quality both on prints and copies is better than I expected and as good as any other printer out there. My opinion is that they are all pretty perfect at this point. I haven''t seen a functioning printer that didn''t make wonderful prints in the last three years or so.

I really like the compact size, which is perfect for home use. If you know what you are getting into with toner cost (over $100 per 1000 sheets), and the numbers work for you, then I recommend this system. It is very easy to use and does a great job.

In the box:

The Printer, toner cartridges, power and USB Cabled. Quick Start Guide and Software installation CD.

Basic Specs:

Multi Function, Does copying, printing and faxing.

Manual Duplexing (dual sides printing)

Print Speed 19 pages per minute black, 4ppm Color.

Wifi, USB2 or 802.11 b/g/n Wirless connectivity.

Dimensions 16" width 14.3" Depth and 13.1" height.

Black Ink Toner 1,500 pages. Color Tonor 1,000 pages.

150 Sheet Paper Capacity

Copy Resolution 1200x1200 dpi

Scans at 600x600dpi or up to 4800x4800 dpi in enhanced resolution mode.

2 Line LCD Display.

Weight 30.8 lbs.

Pros:

* Small foot print, will not dominate your desk, smaller than most inkjet printers and lasers.

* Simple control layout, very easy to setup and use.

* All in one laser printer does not require PC to make copies, fax, or print photo''s from a USB Drive.

* Cheaper to replace toner vs your average inkjet printer.

* Feeder tray on top of the printer makes it easy to use varied sizes of papers, from normal letter, to legal, to envelopes or photos.

* Built in network for ethernet connection, Wifi, or normal USB2 connection to your PC.

Cons:

* The lower paper tray has a relatively small capacity. It stay compact unless you need to put letter size paper or larger paper. It can be a little difficult to reconfigure the lower paper tray size.

* Includes "starter" toner cartridges which have roughly half the print capacity as the normal cartridges, should have been full size.

* Relatively slow printing in relation to your average laser or inkjet printer, but not bad overall. It''s rated at 19ppm Black and white, and 4ppm color. I''ve found it to actually be a little slower than that, so not great for high volume printing use.

* No Auto Duplexer for dual sided printing. It must be done manually. This will not be a problem for most people, but for those who need to do large volumes of dual sided printing, this printer is not for you.

* Only supports USB drives and not SD cards or other media.

Conclusion:

The printer was easy to unbox and setup. I connected it to my wifi network without a hitch. Doing a copy is quick and easy, and I can choose color or black and white to save valuable toner. The print quality is very nice but nothing extraordinary. The print speed could be better, and the lack of a built in duplexer will further slow down print jobs if you need dual sided printing. The built in fax is easy to use as doing a basic copy, you need an available phone jack to plug into. I love the compact size of the printer which makes it easy to use in right quarters. It becomes a little less compact if you do need to use larger paper such as stars letter and the lower paper tray is a bit fiddly. Overall those it''s a nice printer, though a bit pricey for what you get comparing it to other models that will also print faster and have auto duplexers. For it''s high price, average print quality, somewhat slower than average print speed, lack of an auto duplexer for dual sided printing, and starter toner cartridges.

I use this printer in a home office. The first major project given to this printer was to print out wedding programs on cardstock. I needed an all-in-one that mainly does heavy small home office duties, but also can provide high quality prints.

## Assembly and Setup:

The assembly was pretty straight forward as the diagrams provided were easy to follow. As with most modern printers, it''s more difficult undoing all the packing tape than it is to plug the printer into the wall. The cartridges were pre-installed. The software setup was a bit of a pain. I had to go online to find the correct printer drivers. This took some time to navigate, download, and install the correct driver, compounding this time consumption was that I had to install the drive three more times on my various other PCs and laptops at home.

## Aesthetics, Ergonomics:

The unit has a compact design. I had a short square-shaped bookshelf that I had used

for my last all-in-one, and this fit perfectly in its place. The unit is a bit taller than my last

all-in-one, but mostly importantly, it was not wider or longer. One feature that is poorly

designed is the paper tray. The tray sticks out on the front side of the printer and is an

eyesore.

## Performance:

The initial duty given to this printer was to produce 130 color copies of a wedding program on cardstock. The cardstock had no issues feeding through the printer''s tray. The print

quality was fantastic. I could not tell the quality difference between this unit versus prints performed by professional units. Needless to say, I was very satisfied with the output.

One minor issue that came up was the printer generates quite a bit of heat when printing 100+ continuous pages. The heat affected the ink on the paper and at times had issues with minor smearing. After the wedding programs, I also printed various other documents through the basic print, scanning, and copying functions. This unit was really easy to use, and given that the outputs were only black and white, the quality was on par with many other home office all-in-one units. I was disappointed with the "Eco" setting. This was a preset that minimizes the use of black ink for any of the print or copy features. However, the print quality was suboptimal, and rendered this feature useless, as the output resembled a printer that was running out of ink toner (faded ink in the center of the page). I''m sure there is a way to set the advanced settings to customize the "Eco" feature, but if this is the case, why would the default be so useless? Finally, on a similar note, the advanced features on this printer are very extensive. Although I use the default settings for my initial tasks and projects, you can get lost in the menus and submenus customizing every feature of print quality, paper size, etc. If you have time to customize and review every submenu to optimize your printing requirements, then this should not be an issue, but I imagine, most people buy these units because they need to print/copy/scan/fax as soon as possible and as a replacement for their prior broken units, and therefore have no time to use all these advanced features.

## PROS

Super easy basic printing, scanning, copying tasks

Reasonably easy setup, plug and play

Fantastic print quality

Reasonably efficient use of space

Mobile, Wi-Fi, LAN, USB connections

## CONS

Complex advanced print features and setup

Expensive toner

Paper tray sticks out

Useless "Eco" print feature

I have been a user of color laser printers for years at work. This is the first time I have had one for home use. I have been very happy home user of HP inkjet printers for over a decade and have two in my home.

I have been using the Samsung CLX-3305FW color printer as a secondary printer since I received it. This printer will be more expensive to operate than my ink jets so I plan to use it only for higher end jobs (downloads of brochures and white papers, printing on letterhead, and/or copies that are not prone to ink smudges when highlighting). I am very happy with what I have experienced thus far. Its controls are very well designed and easy to use. It runs much quieter and faster than the inkjet and the copy quality is great, in both B&W and color. Colors, as advertized, are great.

Also, as a plus for me, two-sided copying is much easier, `cleaner,'' and superior to what I have had to endure with my ink-jets. In the past, when needing 2-sided copies, I have opted for Kinkos. This task can now be performed at home.

I found the Samsung CLX-3305FW color printer easy to set up out of the box. It took less than 30 minutes to set up and print my first copies. I have had some problems with the WiFi connection but these are not related to the CLX printer but, rather, to my router.

The unit''s footprint is small, requiring only 1.6 square feet of desk top space. I have mine on the top of a dresser in an unused bedroom. It is lightweight weighing in at just under 31 pounds.

The CLX-3305FW Color Laser Printer uses the following toner and consumables:

* Black: CLT-K406S Average page yield of 1,500 standard*** pages.

* Cyan: CLT-C406S Average page yield of 1,000 standard*** pages.

* Magenta: CLT-M406S Average page yield of 1,000 standard*** pages.

* Yellow: CLT-Y406S Average page yield of 1,000 standard*** pages.

* Imaging Unit: CLT-R406 Average of 16,000 black & white pages, or 4,000 color pages.

* Waste Toner Bottle: CLT-W406 Average of 7,000 black & white pages, or 1,750 color pages.

The CLX-3305FW Multifunction Printer is backed by a one-year warranty.

What I like most about this printer:

* Laser quality prints

* Speed and very quiet

* Multi-use

* Small footprint

* Graphic on my computer showing cartridge levels

* Easy replacement of toner (separate toner cartridges)

* Wi-Fi, LAN, & USB

This is an exceptional printer for those seeking an affordable laser printer to use at home or for a small business.

Canon MP620B BLUE version Wireless All-in-one Photo Printer

Canon MP620B BLUE version Wireless All-in-one Photo Printer
  • This is a BLUE version, the model is MP620B. All functions are same as MP620 except for color

I bought this printer from Best Buy in January. I needed to replace the Lexmark All in One printer that I had, which was really terrible. Stay away from Lexmark! Anyway, when I got it home and tried to setup the wireless connection with my laptop(which I had gotten only a few weeks before) I had a lot of difficulty. I think that this is entirely due to the fact that I''m running Windows 7 and it was set to do that. I downloaded the correct driver for the printer for my version of windows. I could get it to print wirelessly once, then I tried to have it scan something wirelessly for me. That worked well, but then when I went back to print something again, it wouldn''t work. I couldn''t figure out what was wrong with it. I dealt with customer service and they weren''t a lot of help. Eventually, I was looking at some options in the print dialogue box and clicked on something there and it solved the whole problem. So if you have a problem printing wirelessly with these Canon printers, make sure to check all of your print settings. If it hadn''t been for this one seriously annoying problem, I would give it five stars. It has been super reliable and the paper tray is underneath, which is great since we have kids. Also, the output tray closes so that the printer entirely closes up into a cube(also great because of the kids). When you want to print, it automatically opens up! So wonderful!

Replacing the ink in this printer costs about $75 every time you replace it. We only paid $100 for it. Now we''re getting an error message B200 and I can''t print or scan. The manual says I need to have the printer serviced. Very disappointed in this product.

I purchased this printer after doing very little research. I went to best buy knowing I wanted to purchase a multi function wireless printer. This was on sale at the time so I looked at the specs and realized that since I don''t do a ton of printing and I just needed to print occasionally that this item would be perfect. So far I have not regret my purchase at all. I am very happy with this product especially considering the price. Canon products never seem to let me down.

We have had this printer for over 2 years and it eats through color cartridges even though we are not printing in color. Every 2 months I have to replace the color cartridges in order to print about 20 pages in black. Looking for a replacement now.

This is the worst printer I have ever had. Whenever you want to print anything it takes about two minutes to "warm up" and it does this every time you push the print button. I rarely print anything in color but it goes through the color cartridges as fast as the double sized black cartridge. Interesting even when set on gray-scale it still eats up the color cartridges. This is another scam by the printer companies to sell a relatively cheap printer and make tons of money on the cartridges.

Update 3/20/13

OCR optical character recognition is done using Omnipage16 by Nuance (see more below). It works very well but it has an annoying quirk. Omnipage16 will CRASH if the printer is not ready (set to Scan/Remote PC/Twain) before you tell it to scan a page. In this case, you MUST ctrl/alt/delete, start Task Manager, and close Omnipage16 from the Application tab. Then switch to the Processes tab and End the 2 Twain processes you will find on the list. Finally restart Omnipage16.

I purchased this from a major office supply company whose name starts with "S". I will update this review if my opinion changes.

My old all-in-one is an HP Officejet Pro 7580. It worked great for 16 months until the genuine HP ink began to leak. Replacing the ink did no good. It was costing a fortune to keep buying HP ink so I began using generics, but generics are NOT at all water resistant. The ink jets have slowly gotten clogged over time until the color does not work anymore and even B&W is iffy. I am feed up with ink jets! You cannot beat the per page cost of lasers, but what to buy?

Spec Comparison:

I compared the following similarly priced monochrome laser all-in-one printers: Brother MFC7860, Cannon imageCLASS MF4880, Cannon imageCLASS MF4890, Samsung SCX-4729FW, and Okidata MB451w. All scan in color. All have auto duplex print, but ONLY Okidata and the Canon 4890 have duplex (double sided) copy and scan. Okidata has a Duty Cycle (a measure of durability) of 50,000 pages per month while all the others are rated about 10,000 pages. The Okidata is not flimsy and weighs 44 lbs while the others weigh about 22-25 lbs. Samsung and Cannon have toner cartridge integrated with the drum (replaced whenever you replace the toner), while Brother and Okidata have a separate drum. Brother and Samsung have annoying 2-line displays while Cannon has 5 lines with backlight. Okidata''s 3.5 inch display has variable lines, but about 5-6 lines with backlight AND a help function. Print speed for Okidata is 30 cpm single sided and 17 cpm duplex (duplex is much faster than the other printers). Time to first page (in idle) is 5 seconds, but requires 25 seconds warm-up from Power Save, and even longer from Sleep.

Okidata Customer support: Live support 24 hours/day!

I called Okidata tech support several times, once getting though immediately, and the other times on hold for a few minutes. They claim the normal wait time is 60 seconds and that they have live support 24 hours/day! You will reach an actual person located here in the US or Canada and they don''t use a script with canned answers. When I called, they seemed both helpful and friendly and were able to answer my questions or quickly email me with the answer. Warranty for the US and Canada is one year ON SITE.

User manuals (basic, advanced and wireless setup):

The manuals are detailed, generally clear and well illustrated and are available on line. Update: as other reviewers have noted, a physical copy of the manuals are not in the box. Cannon and Brother have equally good manuals, but Samsung has an annoying pictogram type manual.

Installation and setup: easy

I have a fairly recent HP computer with Win 7, but drivers are available on-line for Win 8. Unpack, add paper and you are ready to copy. Wireless setup (using manual wireless setup) is only a few steps and is similarly easy IF you know your SSID (network name), password and security type (mine is WPA). It took much longer to read through the extensive manuals to see if I wanted to change any of the default options (for instance change fax auto answer to manual answer).

Function.

For the most part, the display menu system is self explanatory and guides the user in a helpful way. Many menus have a displayed "?" which means you can press the "help" button for more information. I see no problems with the print quality and Toner Saver seems almost as good. It prints fairly quietly (55dB), it is very quiet in Power Save and silent in Sleep. Power Save is 18 watts while Sleep is 3 watts. You can set it to turn off after a set amount of time. Both single side and duplex copying and printing are all a snap. Scanning from a PC is a bit confusing until you realize you have to select Scan/Remote PC (confusingly not Network or Local) on the printer, and then go to the PC. Then the ActKey software works great to scan it works much like the software for my HP inkjet printer and the color scan result is just as good as HP. I have not faxed yet.

Cost to Own:

The Okidata comes with a 1000 page starter cartridge. There are no generics. There are generics for Brother, Samsung and Cannon, but I see a lot of online complaints concerning generic toner. The Okidata toner currently sells for about $40 and has a spec of 1500 pages. This seems to be a roughly similar per page cost to Cannon and Samsung, but a higher cost to that of Brother toner, but Brother laser printers generally cost more upfront. Okidata claims a life of about 25,000 pages for their drum. For what ever it is worth, Okidata claims their "lifetime total cost to own" is substantially less than Samsung and slightly less than Brother.

Update 2/11/13:

A few printer makers have Android apps that allow wireless printing from your phone. Although Okidata does not have such an app, the Google Play store has a free app called Cloud Print which allows wireless printing from your phone to any printer connected to your PC (on a WiFi network). It works well from my Samsung phone to both my wireless Okidata printer and my old wired HP inkjet. Smart Office by Picsel also works, but costs a few dollars.

Update 2/12/13:

OmniPage SE ver 16 OCR software (by Nuance) is on the installation CD as a bonus, but Nuance does not provide any support, so I imagine this could potentially be a problem. Installation of OmniPage from the CD on my Win 7 computer went OK, except a start icon was not generated. I reinstalled ("repaired") and I still had to search for OmniPage (C:\Program Files (x86)\ScanSoft\OmniPage16\OmniPage16.exe). Once I had OmniPage running, it requested to setup the scanner (Okidata must be set to Scan/Remote PC). OmniPage has options of plain text, formatted text, and "True Page" and all gave perfect output as a Microsoft Word file.

The first reviewer did such a comprehensive review that there''s little more for me to say. The print quality is excellent! I haven''t tried to hook it up to the network yet. I''m using a usb to my desktop which does not have wifi.

To me, the setup was confusingly simple or should I say specious? I kept looking for a quick start booklet, but there was only a small print set of pictures. I finally found the dvd inside. It has the manual and quick start guide. Both of those are okay to follow. I had tried to install before reading thinking that the dvd would have detailed instructions but it did not. Everything is in the pdf''s. There''s a procedure to follow to connect the usb (not provided) and power cables. That has to be done before the drivers are installed. There''s nothing on the dvd to tell you to install them. There are little "i" icons next to the items in a list starting with software. You have to click the icons before stuff is saved from the dvd to your PC. I stumbled around a little thinking, "There must be more to it than this?", but copying and printing from the pc worked okay. I''m not used to installations being so easy.I didn''t contact Oki support at all.

This is like an office copy machine in size and it''s really heavy. It has a big footprint snd don''t even think about putting it on a shelf. I would say that it''s built pretty solid even if it is plastic. Isn''t everything? It''s here; It''s setup; It works. I bought for reliability and that''s what I hope I get. I''m damned tired of buing ink. I really don''t need color since we have other printers for that. I''m glad a friend convinced me that a laser is a lot cheaper than ink jets in the long run.

Easy to use, easy to connect. Not real pleased with the "picture" install guide vs. a real manual, but you get it all on a CD.
