Moab Entrada Rag Fine Art, 2-Side Inkjet Paper

Simply put Moab paper is not manufactured consistently. The quality can vary wildly and the people that run the company won''t own up to that fact. If you get a good batch of paper the quality is excellent for the price point. However, I have printed on quite a bit of Kayenta and Entrada that exhibits many and varied surface defects. Coating that flakes off; faint surface abrasion that isn''t noticeable until you print an image with a lot of ink density (read skid marks in the shadows) and loads of dust in some rolls that can make a general mess of your printer and your prints (invariably the dust blocks ink making it to the surface of the paper and when if finally moves you are left with a white spot). Hahnemühle paper is more expensive but by the time you get done pitching all the screwed up prints you end up with when using Moab products I''d say the cost is the same (especially if you count your time and frustration). Having worked in a darkroom for years I expect my inkjet paper to be as reliable as my photo paper. Not so with Moab. For a budget proofing paper try the Illuminata available through Inkjet Art and the papers available through Red River. Both brands are head and shoulders above Moab with regard to quality control.

I have been using this paper in both cut sheets and in rolls for the last two years. Unlike the previous reviewer, I have found the batches to be very consistent. It is a beautiful paper with good balance and works great with all three of my Epson Printers. I get good range of color and very nice detail. The 300 is too thick for the consumer printers, so I use the 190 when I run panoramas on my R2400. I find that even between these I don''t need to worry about consistency.

I would say that The manufacturer does need to improve their canned profiles. Don''t get me wrong, These profiles do a very good job. But if you can do your own profiles, you will find that the color range this paper can handle is much greater than the canned profiles. Also, a separate profile for B&W really makes this paper shine! It is the best paper I have found for high quality black and white prints.

One last note, be sure to set the platen width to wide (at least on the Epson printers)! Otherwise there will be head strikes with the 300 paper.

Profiled correctly and with a properly configured printer, you will get spectacular results.

I have used both the 190 and 300 g versions of Moab entrada bright paper.

The color gamut is very good, although it does have some problems in

the greens and red-oranges. Still, the only paper that I have found

that is competitive in this respect is the Hahnemuhle Photo Rag bright,

which also has some gamut limitations, and is twice or more the price.

(I am printing on a 12-color, Canon ipf8100 printer using icc profiles

from Moab and Andy Biggs.)

The surface texture lends a fine art quality to the images, transcending

merely the "photo" look that traditional photographic "RC" papers produce.

The right image is essential. High contrast B&W does NOT belong on this

paper (instead try Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Pearl or Byarta) unless you want

a charcoal or pencil sketch appearance. Landscapes can become truly

"fine art" in appearance, and wildlife can have a 3-dimensional look

(e.g. the hair or fur) with excellent resolution of the details.

I have not had problems with the surface coating. You can spray

protecting "varnish" (both moab and hahnemuhle sell cans of this), but

behind glass this is not necessary.

This scanner is wonderful. The image quality is excellent. I had friends wondering if I should spend so much on a scanner, then when they saw the images of plants I made, they said "How does it make that look so much better than life?"!

Be careful when scanning non-paper items such as plants or ceramics, the glass can be scratched (on this or any scanner). I buy clear acetate or plexiglass to put on top of the glass in such cases.

As a botanical illustrator, I find this scanner to be a great timesaver. I can scan and enlarge the parts of a plant I need to illustrate, seeing detail much better than through a microscope.

After spending so much on this scanner, I expected it to come with professional-quality software, but it didn''t -at least not for the Mac. Epson Scan is less capable than the software that came with the Microtek scanner I''m replacing, which cost half as much.

Worse yet, color management is broken under Snow Leopard. This is acknowledged on the Epson Web site, and they say they''re looking for a solution, but that''s a year and a half after Snow Leopard was released. So, what you see on the screen is very different from what you get in the scan, even to a less experienced eye like mine.

Not only that, but the software still requires Rosetta, meaning it hasn''t even been updated for the Intel Mac. In fact, unbelievably, rotating the preview window sends the bottom of it behind the Dock, so you can''t read the stats at the bottom or resize the window. That means this software has not even been fully updated for OS X! Basically, you''re getting an OS 9 app that''s being minimally updated to keep it running.

The solution to this is to use SilverFast AI. That software comes with the Photo model of this scanner, which costs several hundred dollars more -or you can buy the software separately from LaserSoft Imaging, which is what I''m having to do, again for a few hundred dollars more. Epson really should not be selling this Graphic Arts model at all.

Update -Even with SilverFast AI and a brand new driver update, this scanner does not play well with the Mac on Snow Leopard. I almost always have to restart my Mac just to get SilverFast to find the scanner. I also have to restart sometimes when the scanner starts producing errors during a scan. And when the scanner''s already on, sometimes the Mac doesn''t start up properly! When that happens, the system is super slow and unresponsive, so that I have to shut off the scanner and restart the Mac again! Also, installing the driver apparently screwed up the permissions on my kernel extensions, which I discovered only accidentally through an alert by TinkerTool System. (DiskUtility doesn''t fix these particular permissions, but TinkerTool System does.)

On top of that, SilverFast seems to be almost as outdated as Epson Scan. I have eight virtual cores on my Mac, and when processing the scanned image, SilverFast uses just one!

Update 2 -It turned out I could get rid of the software errors described above by connecting with USB instead of Firewire. Maybe my adapting from Firewire 800 on the Mac to Firewire 400 on the scanner had something to do with it, or maybe my using a long Firewire cable, but neither was a problem with my old Microtek. In any case, I suggest you avoid using Firewire on this machine, at least with a current Mac. Luckily, using USB with SilverFast doesn''t seem to slow things down noticeably -though for some reason, SilverFast already scans considerably more slowly than Epson Scan.

I''ve used a 1640XL for years. It is having problems and I decided to upgrade to the 10000XL. I found 2 main problems with this scanner.

The first has to do with the quality of the scan. The 10000XL introduces some darkening that is apparent in the white areas of the scanned image. I don''t know how to say this better. It looks like there is a dirty film on the glass, but there isn''t.

The second has to do with the obstacles the engineers put on top of the scanner to make scanning oversized images harder to scan in multiple sections. There is a post sticking up a few inches in the rear. There is also a raised edge on the right and rear sides of the glass.

When I got the first scanner in, I thought I simply had a defective item it happens. The second had the identical problem and I spent quite some time with the folks at Epson on the phone going over it.

I do fine art reproduction, so this is a problem for me. If I were scanning office documents, it wouldn''t be such a big deal, but then I wouldn''t have spent this much for a scanner.

If I explained this poorly, that does not mean there is not a problem. I have an all Epson shop, so this is very upsetting. I don''t have another replacement for my 1640XL.

This paper is really nice, I think I like The Kodak Lustre finish better but the smooth pearl is nice as well. I have no complaints with this paper I just wish it was less expensive, or you got more paper for the price. I use the Canon Pro Platinum settings when printing and I don''t have any problems with it. I use the canon Pixma Pro 9000 Mark II.

I do underwater fish and coral reef surveys in the tropics. Our organization works with a lot of volunteer scuba divers, so we prepare fish ID sheets and data collection forms on DuraCopy 6511. We prepare a "PDF" file of the form on a flash drive and take it to the local copy center where they run the DURAcopy paper through their regular color laser printer. After a week or more of use buy scuba divers making multiple dives a day, the DURACopy sheets and the images on them look as they did when they came out of the copier. We use inexpensive plastic clipboards to hold the sheets. We write on them with standard pencil lead, or "waterproof" (space) pens. The sheets can be erased and re-used. We''ve been doing this for several years without a hitch. If this stuff disappeared from the market, we would have a problem.

This waterproof paper is actually a plastic so it is 100% waterproof and you can print on it with a laser printer which have waterproof toner. A warning though, this paper is twice as heavy as regular paper which is really noticeable if you have printed a lot. It is also tear proof. If you just need water resistent paper the standard rite-in-the-rain paper is a little cheaper and works very well too. I use this for printing quick reference ID guides for use in the Amazon (jungle not the online retailer).

I purchased this HP because the last printer I owned was an HP and worked great for years. This 6100 HP goes through its ink cartridges practically weekly. I''m not printing photos or anything crazy. Also when I put in a new cartridge it will not print correctly until I run the clean print cartridges feature a couple times which is another horrible waste of ink. The ink cartridges are expensive and very very small. What you saved on this printer you will spend exponentially on print cartridges. It''s the worst printer I have ever owned. Shame on HP for this product, I expect a lot better from this company.

I know that I am getting old because I remember when HP printers set the benchmark for quality inkjets. This printer, while good, is not versatile and the support for it is pretty underwhelming.

The 6100e ("e" is for wireless) office jet is one of the dwindling number of basic printers from HP as they migrate from "printers" to "all in ones" and lasers that also include scanning and faxing to the routine. This printer is the first from HP that uses the two cartridge system that has been around forever, and instead moves to the FOUR cartridge system. What this means is that instead of replacing a black ink and color ink cartridges, you know have to pay for black, cyan, magenta and yellow cartridges; they aren''t cheap and they don''t last long.

Our printer set up easily, the first time. But since we have replaced our home network router, we have been unable to get the printer onto the network, despite following the directions. Online support is minimal and good luck with it. As a result, we can only use it as a cabled printer.

My other MAJOR beef with this printer is that to print an envelope you have to completly empty the paper try, run your envelope, and then refill the papertray. I have been told that HP does this because this is an "officejet", designed for company desktop convienience printing and most companies have a laser printer that does envelopes. So enevelope printing is kind of an after thought.

Does it print? Yes. Does it do a decent job? Yes. But had I known now what I know about this printer, I never would have bought it. And in all probabilty, once I run the ink through it I''ll donate it to Goodwill, dust off my old printer (which didn''t have bluetooth) and go back to it and the wonderful world of cables for all our printing.

So this printer gets two stars for basic printing, ONLY, and didn''t get the other three stars because of the problems with connectivity, lack of support AND lack of envelope function.

I needed to print an important document last night and it would not print giving me an error message stating that my cartridge needed to be replaced (still had the setup cartridge in place)

No problem I replaced my black cartridge and thought I was ready to go.

NO....

One of my color cartridges was low and the other empty.

No matter what setting I tweaked, nothing would make this thing print my black and white document in black only.

HP holds your print job hostage until you go out and buy expensive color cartridges that you don''t want/need.

This is deceptive and sleazy at best, extortion at worst.

I will NEVER buy another HP product again if this is the way they do business. (it''s back to Canon for me)

The printer works as good as any inkjet printer. For all the complaints about ink and cartridge sizes, they are accurate for the default cartridge size for the 932 and color 933 cartridges. After some research, you can by these cartridges in XL size for more ink capacity per cartridge (but never what is advertised), but best of all, there are non-HP cargridges in the XL size that work well and don''t cost the HP price. You have to do some digging, but there are also refill kits that drop the price per page even further. Taken together, this ends up being reasonably priced and no more (and no less) of a hassle than for other inkjet units. I think it''s just the nature of the ebast.

We purchased this printer for my wife, who is an avid scrap booker. We were replacing an older Epson wide carriage printer which had died after a troubled existence. I was concerned how this printer would work, but after reading reviews on HP wide carriage printers, decided to relent and order this unit.

After about a month of fairly regular use, my concerns have been put to rest. The printer uses several independent cartridges so you can replace individual colors of inks if they start to run out. (the replaced printer only had two cartridges, and they were obnoxious, tending to dry out and provide streaky prints). This printer generates excellent prints, very lifelike, with good color balance and detail. For wide carriage use, it is excellent for printing on large format scrapbook paper, with no smearing or other issues. Paper path is excellent, straight through, so no problems with jamming.

Only quirk we''ve noticed to date is that it does not print transparencies. (One technique now in vogue is to print your text on a transparency and then place it over a colored background). Not sure why this can''t be done, but the manual says don''t do it. Probably not an issue for the 99% of the world that doesn''t do this.

Overall it''s a very good printer, big improvement over what we had before. The wife is using it for all of her printing, where before she had used a networked HP inkjet all in one photo printer for her photos. We''ll see over time how it holds up, but one month in we''re not having any difficulties and it''s doing a great job. Real reasonable, especially given the prices of some of the other competitors in the market.

The current Epson Stylus Photo 1400 is my 2nd. The first had a problem where after a few prints, paper would run through the printer without any printed image. The printer just feed paper through. I called Epson help desk, we reinstalled the drivers, did all of the trouble shooting and were unable to have the printer do its job. Epson had me return the printer and forwarded me a new Photo 1400. I only use this printer for color photos and therefor don''t print out alot of images. Today,with my 2nd 1400, the same problem as described above occurred. After all of the trouble shooting, downloading drivers, and available support, our attempts for proper function were fruitless. Since this Photo 1400 was post warranty, I disposed of the printer and am in the process of purchasing another brand. I can not recommend this printer, rate the printed images as excellent when it printed. I had always been a fan of Epson, but find that it''s time to try something else

I got a great deal on this printer about a year ago (new from an office supply store). The first twenty or so prints were not bad, not nearly as good as the ones from my HP B9160, but not nearly as expensive or cumbersome to print either. Unfortunately, I was reminded why I don''t buy Epson. The print heads clog really quickly and then you get banding on your prints. It happened to me before on another Epson. I chalked it up to being that printer but apparently it wasn''t. It''s an incredible pain and since even when the prints were good they weren''t great I gave up and reverted to my older printers.

Other than that it has some nice features, not the least of which is the wide-format printing. It doesn''t matter, though. I never use it anymore because of the print head issues.

I''ve owned this printer for a couple of years and recently bought a 2nd one. I do a lot of graphics and I''m real impressed with the quality of this printer from postcards to large format sheets of 13 x 19. This printer has excellent color and detail, and I am very happy with the printer''s performance. Not the fastest printer on the block, but I can live with that given its exceptional print quality. I''ve owned a number of printer''s in the past, including Cannon and HP, but this is the best so far. Works well with "knock off" inks, so cost is not as bad as if you tried to buy the inks from Epson. As with most of these companies their exclusive brand of refill inks cost more than what you paid for the printer and you almost want to purchase a new printer every time you buy inks. I go online and purchase in bulk and can get three cartridges for the price of one Epson refill....Thanks, but no thanks. I don''t find any noticeable difference in my output, so buy the printer from Epson, (*great price by the way), and purchase your ink refills somewhere else. Wake up Epson; you make a great product for a reasonable price, now do something about your pricing on ink cartridges. Your high prices don''t fool anyone, nor do you claims that only your cartridges work best!

The best thing about this all in one is the price (hence the 2 stars). Its really affordable compared to other brands out there. However the price isn''t the only thing about this product thats cheap. ;)

If you are looking for a copier/scanner/fax machine in one than you''ve hit the jackpot. It''s really simple to switch back and forth, and provides a really high quality copy/scan. Plus the photo editing program isn''t too bad. You can add text, crop, resize (the basic photo editing stuff).

But the bad outweighs the good....the printer portion of this all in one is soooo frustrating. The ink cartridges for the lexmark printers are the worst ever! They dry out really quickly (wiping it with a dampened paper towel helps), and don''t last long at all. Plus if you like to save a penny and wish to use the "refillable ink", your out of luck because the cartriges are impossible to refill (the little hole is too tiny to fit the refill needle in) and you are stuck paying 20-30 bucks a piece for the cartridges every time you turn around.

Plus I think something on mine broke (yah who would have guessed?) because it doesnt pull the pages through properly, it pulls them crooked \\

I have had this printer HP 2550L for about 10 years now, when this model came out it cost $1200 wish was pricey for me, but I wanted use it for a home business, and I was able to get a floor model for $700 during the holiday season. I am still surprise to see them selling used versions and supplies online. As far a cost it is very affordable as far as performance it is very slow and a bit noisy but it gets the work done. You can even get the toner and imaging drum replacment at descent prices online still, note there are different quality of toners. You can''t really go wrong with some HP products. I am in the process of buying a refurbrished printer because my old model has aged due to wear and tear, and I can still use my toner and imaging drums, the printers usually does not include tone cartridges so I save money that way. To ship your Priority Mail package with the correct amount of postage, you will still have to go to the Post Office or purchase a $9.95 monthly service plan. Of course, this is not explained to you until after you purchase the unit and set up your account. In my opinion the "No-Monthly-Fee DYMO Stamps(tm) postage labels" is clearly bait and switch. If you ship a few packages a month, the monthly service charge is not worth the cost.

The one and only reason I purchased this label printer was for the highly touted Dymo Stamps feature, supposedly giving you the ability to print your own postage stamps onto thermal postage labels for no monthly fee, only the cost of the printer and the thermal label refills. According to the Dymo Stamps website, Dymo Stamps gives you the ability to "Print Exactly the Amount of Postage you Need" and "Eliminate the Need for Costly Postal Meters." What the consumer is not told upfront is that these "precise" amounts of postage can only be in denominations of the Dymo Stamps software''s choosing, not any amount you want. In fact, the only postage denominations that can be printed are those already available in stamp form at the post office, basically just your run-of-the-mill $0.39 stamps, $4.05 Priority Mail stamps, and postcard stamps. This software also does not give you the capability to print postage for Parcel Post, Media Mail, or Express Mail, and doesn''t allow you to add additional postage for services like insurance or certified mail at all. How this saves you any trouble over buying stamps from the post office is beyond me. Conveniently, you can only overcome all of these limitations by subscribing to Endicia (Dymo Stamps'' backbone provider) for a monthly fee. Heck, you can''t even go to an office supply store to buy the thermal postage label refills that you need to print postage on; they can only be ordered online through a link in the Dymo Stamps software. Especially given the fact that even the least expensive Dymo Stamps capable LabelWriter model is over $100, this will NOT save you any money in postage, will NOT save you any time, and ordering stamps online from USPS (or getting them from the local post office) is just as convenient, if not more convenient, than ordering the stupid thermal refills online from Dymo and waiting for them to arrive. Thankfully, Amazon is great at accepting returns.

I have been using Stamps.com for my online business for about 2 years. Up till now I have been printing postage using a standard laser printer. Using this method I had to load individual sheets to print just 1 label, and often had paper jams, which sometimes resulted in lost postage funds. Not anymore! This dymo 400 turbo works flawlessly with stamps.com and prints individual postage labels in seconds. No more messing around with label sheets and loading trays. Best of all it doesn''t use any toner, it uses thermal label rolls. (Laser toner is expensive) The 3-part postage label rolls are quite inexpensive, and the print quality is excellent. This baby should be paying for itself within 6 months. Cut my packing & shipping time almost to half. BTW, it also includes it''s own software for making custom labels.

I purchased the LabelWriter 400 Turbo and then read the reviews. I was a bit scared that I had purchased a lemon. However, it arrived today and I couldn''t be happier.

Setup was easy for both the LabelWriter and Endicia Stamps. I printed my first stamp within 10 minutes of opening the box. It took 2 tries for the machine to align the stamp labels properly but after that it''s on target. Notice, I said the machine aligned the labels; I did not have to do anything except for ask it to print a test label. Yes, you can print test labels both in the setup and on the Endicia site before you actually print your postage.

Endicia offers a large variety of denominations for stamps. If you need a larger denomination, it is not necessary to purchase multiple 39 cent stamps, just combine larger denominations. If you need media mail, buy that denomination and then Write Media Mail on the envelope. Don''t make it harder than it has to be.

The LabelWriter has a 2 year warranty and that should be sufficient to replace anything that goes wrong. After 2 years, I should hope that the company is innovative enough to have improved on this product.

I almost bought this machine a few months back but I walked away. I am so glad that I own it now and that Dymo has partnered with Endicia to offer postage without a monthly service fee.

I bought a Dymo 400 Turbo several years ago (also at Amazon) and decided to get another one for a separate business computer. There were some really nice improvements in the equipment and the software. Big compartment for forms is big enough to just drop a roll in without putting on spool which saves time. Also, the form feed button on the front is new which is a fast easy way to align forms to make ready for use.

I highly recommend this very practical product.

Firstly, I think this printer is the best in the similar prices.

Good point: Quick printing, not so big size, no problem with Mac Os.

Worse point: PDF Speed, Duplex, Printer Driver, Noise, Setting.

I comment only worse point.

Firstly, this the speed of printing PDF is very slow.

I do not reason (probably due to the shortage of memory of printer).

The speed is really irritating me. But other type of files are no problem, very fast.

I found the one solution. It is to choose the option "Print as Image".

Then, we can print as same as other files.

Nextly, due to old printer driver,

we can not set the details of print such as amount of inks.

I mean that we can not choose the normal or safe mode for the consumption of ink

But if you do not care about this, no problem

Noise is a little bit problem. But may be not so much.

Again, this printer is really good and cost performance is really nice.

But you have to choose the option for pdf printing each time,

and you can not choose and adjust the consumption of ink due to too simple printer driver.

My conclusion is this is the best for people who just wants good laser-printing

and do not care about the detail setting.

I bought two of these printers. The B400 series are really designed for a office network. They are too big and noisy for a desktop.

I am running XP. My HP Laserjet 1100 with 120K copies puts out more consistent and better quality print than the Okidata, hands down. I can take anything except poor output.

When it starts up to print even a single page, the fan speeds up and the noise goes up dramatically. It feels like it is girding for battle.

My two Oki b410 printers are currently one month old and I am getting ready to send them to the landfill. It really really really hurts to throw them away.

I think it is the software. All printers have internal software that translates the output from the computer into printed output. The software is critical to good output and often is a major part of the expense of the printer. Oki b400 models are physically impressive, but the software burned on the chip inside the printer is sorely lacking.

I bought this as a lower price alternative to Epson matte canvas to run through my Epson stylus pro 4900. The paper does not seem to take the Epson inks quite as well as Epson paper. The difference is very small, but I did notice a dustier look to my reds especially. The paper has a fairly heavy texture, which I liked, but it does seem to be prone to some high spots that do not hold ink well. It made for small pimple like irregularities in the printing. This did not show up to much on lighter prints, but when there was a large dark area it started to look like an acne breakout. This did not happen on every dark print, but it did occur often enough to be an irritation. I did not find it to be any dustier than the other matte canvases I have tried. The price more than compensates for the occasional print that has to be redone and I would imagine that the colors would be slightly better if I had used canon inks. I ended up switching back to the Epson canvas (although it is not perfect either and it costs about %50 more), because reprinting was to much of a pain for me.

We are a 10 person law firm. The Canon works as advertised. So far we are 3 months in. Had a little problem configuring the "scan to a network location," but once set, it functions as we want it to. I have not compared print speeds, since we do not use it primarily for that purpose (we use local printers mostly), but having another networked duplex-capable machine with ok speed is helpful, and the ability to scan to our file server at decent speeds for the price (the next level up in speed is really about $1700 more) is great.

Do not buy this product. The toner gave out in less than a week. An HP, previously in that position took several months to run out with the same load. The mechanics of getting a print out are convoluted. You have to manipulate the front panel if you want labels to run through properly. Scanning to the network is a joke. The manual explicitly states that if you have more than 10 computers the unit won''t be able to negotiate that. The output is slow and lacks crispness. The arrangement of the front panel and the fit and function of the unit are poor. I am very dissapointed in this unit. Bad design, poor quality, crappy functionallity.

I have a Canon 2010 printer. I don''t use it that much, and the ink will dry over time while IN the printer. So I usually only get about 10 color prints out of these ink tanks...So I usually buy the Nectron Compatible InkJet Cartridge, it''s cheaper, and it functions the same. But there''s nothing wrong with this...other then the fact that it slowly dries out.

I''ve had a Canon BJC-2110 printer for several years, and it works fine. The only problem is that recently I''ve been having trouble finding the cartridges because it is an older model. I was so happy to find cartridges for relatively cheap online, but in using the BCI-21 color cartridge I bought from schoolcartridgerecycling, I am finding that yellow prints out as green. Not that big a deal, but I probably wouldn''t buy cartridges from this seller again. It may simply be that these cartridges are old, which is understandable because they''re probably not being manufactured anymore. No problems with shipping or anything else though.
