HP LaserJet 2420dn Monochrome Printer

HP LaserJet 2420dn Monochrome Printer
  • Up to 30 ppm print speed; 1,200 x 1,200 dpi resolution
  • 64 MB memory, expandable to 320 MB, 2 open Compact Flash slots
  • Parallel and USB 2.0 interfaces, EIO slot
  • HP Jetdirect Fast Ethernet embedded print server
  • 100-sheet multipurpose tray, 250-sheet input tray; automatic two-sided printing

We used an HP LaserJet 4M plus for years. The 2420 warms up quicker and prints much faster.

Unlike the 4M, the 2420 is silent! In fact, I often forget to turn it off when leaving the office.

The descriptions for the 2420 are confusing. The 500-sheet paper tray is NOT included. We bought one separately.

The 2420dn is a great printer and meets every need I have in a mono laser. It''s very, very fast, the first page is out in less than 10 seconds. The built-in networking is fast and works great. I was previously using an Intel Netport print server with an HP 1320, and it was just too slow. The integrated networking in the 2420dn is really fast. Duplexing works great, the Tray 1 manual feeder works great with envelopes. I can not find a single bad thing to say about the 2420dn, it has everything I wanted in a laser for my home office. I know HP is a different company than they were years ago, but I still trust their laser printers as the industry standard. I had a model 4P b/w laser printer for 10 years, never had a single problem with it. But look at how far things have come. I spent $925 on that 4P back in 1995, it printed 600dpi at 4 pages/minute and came with I think 2MB onboard memory. This 2420dn does 1200dpi at 30ppm, and comes with 64MB memory onboard. Sounds like a bargain...

I am buying my fourth HP 2420 today (all in use, not as replacements). I love these! This printer handles the graphics I print better than other printers-I''ve had to send other models back because they couldn''t print what I bought them for. Printing times are reasonable, and the print quality is great. They are a little loud, which was never an issue at work (we have lots of machinery-I didn''t even notice it)-only noticed it when I set one up in my living room at home.

This printer has been very sturdy. The rollers do wear out, but they are easily replaced. (Search the web for methods to do it yourself.) It does the duplexing well as well as being on the network.

This printer is a workhorse. Very satisifed with this rebuilt printer and the company we bought it through. It was very easy to add to our network.

Invent It! Puzzle Kit
  • Create puzzles using your computer, ink-jet printer, and favorite software
  • 2 30-piece felt puzzles and 2 iron-on transfers included
  • Use images from your scanner, digital camera, or Internet downloads
  • Designed for excellent performance on ink-jet printers
  • Easy-to-use step-by-step instructions enclosed

I wanted a fun way to present a trip to my brother as a birthday present, so I used this kit to make puzzles revealing the two different adventures the trip includes. I used PowerPoint to create the images, instead of downloading templates from the company. Then I printed the images on the transfer paper. These steps are fairly easy--just make sure you print the image in reverse, if it includes words.

The hard part was ironing the transfer onto the felt side of each puzzle. (Make sure the steam is off!) The directions for ironing are kind of complicated, and despite following them exactly, I got two different results and had a little trouble with each puzzle. The first one had a matte finish. The transfer didn''t stick on one edge, so there were white spots. For the second puzzle, I made sure to press harder on the edges, and the decal backing peeled off smoothly, but for some reason the surface was shiny. It seemed like the transfer didn''t melt into the felt all the way, and it was hard to get the pieces apart. The plastic surface of the decal tore in a few places.

Despite both puzzles'' little imperfections, they looked great, and my brother enjoyed putting them together and discovering what I planned for his trip. He was impressed by the presentation.

I think these would also make wonderful personalized puzzles for young children; they''re not complex enough to entertain older kids or adults. (My brother put each one together in a matter of minutes.) However, as a craft project, this would a good challenge for older and very patient (and supervised) kids or teens.

I tried several times to transfer an image to the puzzle surface and it neve did adhere. I really wanted this too.

Rotatrim RC M24 24-Inch Cut Rotatrim Professional-24 Cutter
  • Chrome Twin Steel Guide Rails - provides smooth operation and heavy duty use.
  • All Metal Cutting Head - provides years of trouble free operation.

I purchased this cutter to trim large photos before taking them to my dry-mount press. This is a very precise trimmer. I can literally shave what seems like a hundreth of an inch off of an edge. There is no comparison with my knife trimmer (you know... the old guillotine type trimmer) I only wished I got the 36" instead of the 24" This trimmer is designed to cut only in 1 direction because of a metal guard but that is an easy change. Once you look at how the rotary blade works you can see how to modify that. I choose to keep it factory.

Well Made!

I expect to get many years out of this device.

I use trimmers in my profession often and have attempted many different brands and types in the past. I must say, this is probably the best model out there. It never dulls, cut super straight, and cuts cleanly.

I have used a small roto trim for at least 16 years and it is still going strong. But I needed a bigger trimmer for bigger projects and so it was not difficult for me to decide on the larger 24-inch cutter. It is far superior over other type of cutters. And with some research on the net I was able to buy this unit new at a large discount.

  • Produces high-resolution color printouts with sharp images and brilliant photos

This cartridge lasted less than two weeks before the colors weren''t printing. Cartridge probably dried out from sitting on the shelf too long. Although you will pay a little more purchasing direct from Dell, I recommend doing so. I have never had a problem with any cartridge purchased directly from Dell. Your taking a chance shopping for lower prices elsewhere. I will not make that mistake again.

I have had the same printer for about 8 years now, and have not bothered to install color ink in it for about 3 or 4 years. The past few times a replaced these cartridges, they are not only expensive, but it seems like the magenta color is always drying out in the cartridge too quickly, and it screws up the printing for my work. I have had bad luck with the Dell printer and ink cartridges, I recommend staying away from them :(

When installed on my printer, this cartridge did not work. I cannot determine whether the cartridge was at fault or if something was wrong with the printer. I scrapped printer and cartridges (it would print with the black cartridge.)

Kodak P811BK 8x10 Personal Photo and Negative Scanner Save 63% off

Kodak P811BK 8x10 Personal Photo and Negative Scanner
  • Scan any printed photo from wallet size to 8x10 inches
  • Scans photographic negatives and delivers crisp, clear positive image ready for upload, printing or emailing
  • Scanner has a 5-in-1 card reader and ships with a 4 GB MicroSD Card and SD adapter to make sure you have plenty of space to hold your photos
  • Scans printed photos at high resolution 600 DPI (selectable to 300 DPI)
  • Ultra portable and battery powered with 4 AAA batteries (not included) allow you to take the P811 where you go

I was a little apprehensive about purchasing this small photo scanner. I have literally 1000''s of photos from years and years of family photos, trips, candid moments, heirlooms, etc. that have begun to fade, turn pink or become brittle with age. So I was anxious to find something that would allow me to quickly scan in my huge photo and negative collection giving me good color and pixel resolution and photo-to-screen reasonable definition without costing me a fortune. This small scanner has been worth every dollar.

PROS: The set up is fast and easy. For starters, the scanner came complete with a power cord or I could insert four AAA batteries and make it completely mobil. The usb connection cable tethered the scanner to my PC or laptop. I also have the option of downloading the scanned photos to the 4 GB MicroSD Card that comes with it that is easily inserted into the back of the scanner. My first scan, I chose to download the scans to my laptop. The software to complete that setup is on the MicroSD card. The software setup was quick and in just minutes I was scanning in my first photo. After 50-100 photo scans, I cleaned the rollers with the cleaning tool supplied with the scanner. Despite reviews that gave negative feedback concerning white lines on the photos, the tool did the trick and kept my photos crisp and clean. There is also a sleeve for photos that are too curled, thin, too small, or just need a little TLC to make it through the scanner. I love this little scanner and can''t wait to start on my negatives. I highly recommend this scanner for those who are looking for a quick and easy way to archive their old photos. I''ll update my review once I have begun to scan in my negatives. Also, the description online said it will scan up to 8"x10" but it will actually accept a 8 1/2" x 11" piece of paper.

CONS: It only scans in one format, JPG. I would have liked PDF so I could scan in my recipes, magazine articles and receipts. When you use the JPG format the files are rather large. I can scan them in as a JPG and then print them to a PDF but that is just extra work. I would also have liked the ability to control the JPG size on the scanner itself.

Overall, I am very pleased with this scanner. I don''t think you will be disappointed with the functionality.

PROs, CONs, and NEUTRALS

If you''ve got the daunting project of scanning thousands of old photos without wanting to spend 5-10 minutes fiddling on each one, then this little device is going to work really well for you. If you''re looking for super high quality scans worthy of an photography gallery, choose a more professional flatbed scanner and prepare to spend the next two years hunched over in a dungeon with your klunky PC.

PROS:

Scans directly to a memory card without an external computer!

Up and running in less than 10 minutes, which includes breaking it out of the box, reading the quick start guide and two pages of the user guide, and guessing that the power button doubles as the resolution selector.

Easy to use. Examples:

1. Stick your SanDisk in the back first. Then plug in the device. Toggle between 600 dpi (amber) and 300 dpi (green) by pressing the power button. Hold the power button for two seconds to turn off, or hold again to turn on again.

2. To scan a photo, insert the photo directly into the slot. It will automatically feed itself!

Fast scans.

600 dpi (amber light): 8"x10" took 32 seconds. Anything inside the plastic sleeve will take 32 seconds to go through the scanner (since the speed is the same to process the same sized sheet, regardless of the size of the photo inside it.) Smaller photos fed into the scanner without the sleeve will still be between 25-31 seconds.

300 dpi (green light): 8"x10" took 10.8 seconds. Anything inside the plastic sleeve will take 9-10 seconds

Plastic sheath included. The plastic sleeve is about 8.75" long, and is used to protect older or frayed or bent photos.

Really small. About 10.5" long x 2.25" deep x 1.875" high. P.S. It operates similar to a NeatReceipts-style scanner, but without a PC and other software.

Portable. Runs on batteries (but I use the included power cord.)

Once you put the photo in, the scanner rolls the photo through by itself, so you''re not holding it the whole time.

Good value. It''s a scanner that can cost less than $100 in some places.

CONS:

Sometimes if you don''t feed the photo straight, it will go through crooked, and you can''t stop it midway, as the scanner doesn''t open. You would end up yanking the photo out. It''ll let you, but that''s probably not a good idea since it''s those internal rollers that roll the photo for you. Wouldn''t want to damage them or the photo!

The plastic sheath won''t cover anything larger than a 5x7 photo. So you''ll just need to feed larger photos directly without the sleeve, or use a regular flatbed scanner.

Only one plastic sheath. Not sure how to get replacements, as I could see it getting lost or frayed or destroyed by children/pets. I suppose you could just get a normal office transparent, thin binder sleeve to substitute, but I haven''t tried.

Occasionally, the feed won''t start right away, or starts too quickly. But it recovers quickly just by pulling the photo out quickly before it goes in too far, and trying again. (See the caveat about the rollers above, though.)

You do need to feed the photo and take it out once it''s gone through. It doesn''t spit the photo out, but will sort of continue scanning until you pull the end out completely.

NEUTRAL:

This scanner assumes you just need decent but not super high quality scans of relatively flat photos no wider than 8". (Length can be a little more than 10".)

You *must* have a memory card in the memory card slot in order to scan, even if you are scanning to a machine. (Someone please confirm.)

I did encounter the white line that another reviewer mentioned, but in my case, it cleared up once I used the enclosed cleaning tool. There is a little paper guide on the scanner that you adjust to fit the size of the photo being fed. I notice that I have problems if my photo ends up really pushing against that plastic guide. Hard to explain--think of it like trying to squeeze a bed through the doorway. A part of it might compress, and I think that was partially responsible for my white line. Yes, I admit: user error.

OTHER FUNCTIONALITY:

It saves all the photos as *.jpg format to a folder on the memory card called PHOTO# (where # refers to a number, starting with 1.)

You can scan to a desktop/laptop with the included software if you wish

Hope that helps! Comments and questions for clarification are welcome. Happy digitizing of old photos!

[11/18/2011 Update]

I read the user guide and discovered two additional things to note:

This product is made by Pandigital for Kodak.

There is a calibration card included that can be run through the scanner to calibrate it and help with the white lines.

Last night, I scanned 40 photos & rescanned 7 of them in the space of about an hour. The seven redos had white lines before I had to rescan them, clean and calibrate.

I''ll update again if I decide that the error rate is too great. 7 out of 40 photos is a lot to redo, especially when you start getting into hundreds of photos.

I have 3 generations of photos that I treasure and wanted to scan them and preserve them on a stick/disc. Using my printer/scanner was going to take mega hours of work. Using my new Kodak P811BK scanner I have really cut the time down and only have one more storage bin of albums to do. This is the fastest most efficient scanner I have ever used and I highly reccommend this to anyone with a daunting scanning job facing them.

Want Kodak P811BK 8x10 Personal Photo and Negative Scanner Discount?

So I did a lot of research and ended up buying this scanner because it does 8x10 pictures. It was a great choice. It does what it advertises, I have not tried to do the disconnected battery-powered scanning or transparency/negative scanning, though.

Ok, so here is the low-down on this scanner:

Can scan pictures at 300 dpi or a higher resolution 600 dpi. When you turn it on it defaults to 600 dpi. My pictures average about 1 MB in size, through the range is from about 700KB to about 2.2MB. These are normal 4x6 pics mostly. for negatives and transparencies the scanner is hardwired to do 1200 dpi, which is probably a good thing. I did not scan any negatives or transparencies.

If you scan while connected to a computer you do not need a memory card inserted into the scanner. Comes with a 4GB memory card which is nice to have.

Comes with two software programs/installers: One is the driver program which allows you to scan to a folder on your computer. This program does not do much more than that. The second program is Kodak''s image editing software, which I did not try out or install.

After installation the scanner "just works". I have an IBM/PC computer. This is a great thing to say because usually that''s what you need out of your electronics. I have never had it fail on me.

If you have the scanner connected to a computer while scanning, then you can check your photos right away, which is invaluable. I would not scan pics into a feed-through scanner like this without checking each and every photo. It''s just physically impossible to have a perfect scan every time in this type of scanner. This will get crooked due to user error. For this reason I do not use the battery-powered, hope for the best mode. I check each picture as I scan them to make sure the scan is acceptable.

There have been some comments about white lines in the pictures. I have experienced them too. I have found there are actually two problems and people are getting them mixed up: There is a white line problem, where the line is a single pixel wide and the pixel is completely white. This is fixed with a re-calibration with the included calibration card and a re-scan. It just happens every once in a while, I would not say it happens too much. The second problem I would bet is a bug in the scanner firmware. This is a line, several pixels wide that "eats" part of a photo. As a software engineer, I can say with some certainty that this is a firmware bug. It is probably a certain sequence of binary values in the digitized picture that causes this. You do not need to re-calibrate to get a good second scan, simply run the picture again. I never had it happen twice on the same picture. But no matter what the cause is, these two conditions happen very rarely. I am not knocking off any points for this, that''s how rare it is.

The scanner comes with a plastic envelope/holder for pictures. Use it; even if your pictures can be run fine through the scanner without the envelope. The envelope does wonders for having scans that are aligned on the first try.

If you have pictures with dark edges (for example a picture taken at night where one or more edges of the picture are very dark), then the scanner will sometimes get confused as to where the picture actually ends. So if you have a picture that is 4x6, for example, the scanned picture may look to be 4x4. to solve this, I put something brighter behind the picture at the dark edge (a sticky note gave me goods results), and that will force the scanner to scan the whole picture and not throw out the dark part of the image. The downside of this is that now you have a picture that is too large, and you need to crop it with an image editor. To me this is much better than having a picture that is too small, but you make your own decision.

The resolution is great on this, as is the quality of the scan. I think the quality of the (old?) prints becomes a problem much sooner than the quality of the scanner. The 600 dpi resolution is great for making enlargements. Just don''t expect to make a 2ft by 3ft poster out of these images. The real limitation will be the quality of the original pictures much more than the quality of the scan.

This scanner works awesome as a document scanner. It will take an 8.5" paper, so you can scan legal or letter size documents.

It really helps to have a good image editing software available to align photos, crop out edges, correct colors (old pictures you may scan will have faded colors, processing errors from the original picture development, and so on). Many pictures that I had looked far better after color and exposure corrections than the original pictures. I used Adobe Photoshop to correct my pics, I did not install the software that came with the scanner, so I cannot comment on the included software.

The one thing that I would watch out for is that the scanner comes with one calibration card (to calibrate simply feed it through the scanner, it could not any easier) and one plastic envelope for the pictures. I do not know how I would get a replacement for either, so keep the calibration card crystal clean. I put mine on a ziploc by itself to accomplish this. It would be good to be able to buy more of either accessories for backup.

Overall this was a great scanner to sit down with in front of your laptop and reminisce with the family about old times as you scan and double check your images. I just sat there for several evenings scanning my big pile of pictures and it''s kind of sad they''re all done. I need to visit my mother and do the same on her picture albums :-)

I''ll give this scanner a perfect score as there is really nothing to bump down the score for. It does what it promises, with rare hiccups. I would not scan battery powered (btw, the manual insists that you yse rechargeable batteries if on battery power) without checking the pictures as you scan. That simply is putting too much faith on a feeder scanner. Too many things can go wrong to just assume all scans will be perfect on the first try.

Overall I am very happy with this purchase.

HP LaserJet 1160 Monochrome Printer

HP LaserJet 1160 Monochrome Printer
  • Up to 1,200 dpi effective output
  • Up to 20 ppm speed, first page out in less than 10 seconds
  • 133 MHz Motorola processor, 16 MB RAM
  • 10,000-page per month duty cycle
  • Parallel and USB 2.0 interfaces; PC and Mac compatible

Pros:

Dramatically improved design

Improved print quality

Speedy output

Small footprint

Solid paper handling

Cons:

More expensive than competitors

Cryptic LED status lights

Does not accept higher capacity toner

Flimsy single-sheet multipurpose input tray

Poorly written printer driver and installer

No printed manual (only PDF file on the CD)

HP LaserJet 1160 is a feature-stripped version of LaserJet 1320, replacing LaserJet 1150 and LaserJet 1300, respectively. 1160 and 1320 share the same engine and chassis (1320 features white-with-black-accents whereas 1160 is all-white). Perhaps the most dramatic change from 1150 and 1300 is a redesigned chassis. They no longer resemble DeskJet''s L-shape box with protruding input paper tray, infamous for causing paper to curl up if many sheets are stacked on its output bin. Both 1160 and 1320 now look more professional and spiffier, all the while occupying even less desk space.

More subtle but just as dramatic is improved print quality. 1150 and 1300 were criticized for worse print quality than their predecessor (LaserJet 1200). 1160 restores the former glory with improved print quality. Graphics and photo outputs look noticeably smoother than LaserJet 1150 and 1300 with less noticeable dithering. Text looks sharp, and it looks slightly better defined in 600 dpi with FastRes 1200 turned off (graphics look far better with it turned on, however).

If you need more reasons to justify 10% price increase over 1150, how about 10% faster print speed? With double the memory (16 MB vs. 8 MB) and smaller footprint (measures about 14 inches by 14 inches vs. 16 inches by 19 inches), 1160 represents a superior value.

That said, 1160 could''ve been better. 1160 loses 1150''s 10-sheet multipurpose input tray (1160 accepts only 1 sheet at a time). And multipurpose single sheet input tray feels a bit flimsy, although 250-sheet input tray feels very sturdy and should last a long time. And according to HP, 1160 can accept only the standard capacity toner (prints 2,500 pages at 5% coverage). Also disappointing are LED status lights (LCD alphanumeric display would have been more informative).

I have 1160 connected to Apple AirPort Extreme Base Station (via USB port) so that I can print wirelessly. Apple PowerBook G4 (Mac OS X 10.3.5), IBM ThinkPad A31 (Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2), and Compaq Presario X1000 (Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2) notebooks share the network and printer.

Included Windows installer did not make installation process any easy. If the printer is NOT directly connected to the computer via USB or parallel port, it will not let you install the driver (Mac OS X installer is more forgiving). Network detect feature did not work and I suspect it works only with JetDirect option. After reading the manual on the CD, I have discovered a workaround. Manually add the printer as a local printer, create a new TCP/IP port and specify wireless router''s IP address (10.0.1.1 in my case), then click "Have Disk" to install the driver manually. The manual points to wrong directory path. The correct path for English-based Windows XP driver is English\Drivers\Win2003_XP\PCL5.

The driver is not any better. It is not that printer driver itself is that bad (although I have found few minor bugs). My issue is with hp toolbox, an application that supplements the driver. It is written in Java with embedded Apache web server (talk about bloated!). It feels rather sluggish with ugly interface.

That said, the printer works well and hp toolbox should not detract you from using the printer to full potential. And Mac OS X support is nice. When you print, a photo realistic LaserJet 1160 icon appears on the dock showing which page is printing.

If you are looking for true 1200 dpi printing (1160 prints at 600 dpi, only emulating 1200 dpi via REt and FastRes technologies), expandable memory, PCL 6 and emulated PostScript 2 compatibility (1160 supports only PCL 5e), automatic duplex printing, and higher capacity toner compatibility (6,000 pages at 5% coverage), consider 1320.

I''m delighted with this printer. It''s wonderfully compact and fits in tight spaces. The printer quality is excellent and it really feels solid. I expect it to be as reliable and long-lasting as my previous printer, an HP LaserJet 6MP. This printer worked right out of the box with my Macintosh running OS X 10.3.x and I suspect that setup for Windows is equally painless. Yes, it''s a little more expensive than comparable laser printers, but I think that over time the slighly greater inital investment will have been worth it.

Read Best Reviews of HP LaserJet 1160 Monochrome Printer Here

Pros: It will print. Easy initial set-up.

Cons: It has problems printing fonts other than Courier. The way the paper in the tray loads makes it a problem to print sequential single pages (like check stock, think anything already numbered). The manual feed slot is almost worthless.

The font problem is caused, according to HP, by the driver for the printer. It is faulty, and even though HP has released an updated driver, that does not fix the problem. As of June 1, 2005, HP''s fix for the font problem is to tell you to load software from another one of their printers (which means you lose some of the funtionality of this new printer).

The manual feed is for one piece of paper at a time and is just a slot no tray or feeder support.

There are cheaper printers that will perform the same functions as this printer, without all the font issues. If I could re-purchase, I would just purchase the HP LaserJet 1012 Printer again.

Want HP LaserJet 1160 Monochrome Printer Discount?

The device is made adequately well but not as well as the HP line starting at street price $600-800 or the printers selling in the $900-1300 range, which are known workhorses, but at 4 times the cost.

Setup is easy, especially for those who use higher grade HP printers at work and know how to load and activate the toner cartridge.

I bought two of these for my twins who entered college this fall. USB setup worked fine but required loading of drivers, which is from a supplied CD, on one child''s PC, whereas the Apple machine installed totally without intervention.

The print quality is claimed at 1200 DPI and indeed appears to be so. I performed some complex registration tests consisting of running print through the machine several times on the same paper and found registration to be first rate -excellent.

The lack of a support table on the paper feeder, such as the more expensive models have, made feeding of labels and other single sheet jobs, as well as envelopes, much more difficult than it needed to be. It is unlikely that the addition of an easily accessed single page feed support would have increased the manufacturer''s cost more than a few dollars; that negligibly higher price would have been well worth the dollars in user convenience.

I did not explore the energy saving modes and cannot comment on them, but the 1160 is Energy Star rated.

Not enough experience with the supplied toner cassette to state whether it actually delivers the promised 1,500 pages at the coverage percent indicated in the claim. A purchased toner cartridge thereafter will produce many more copies. Also am wondering if the 1160 model is plagued by a timing chip on the cartridge, which I am told disables the ability to employ a cartridge right down to the last spoonful of powder when the manufacturer''s "expiration date/freshness date" has been exceeded. You can read about those chips in PC and similar magazines.

Those using the HP office printers know that rocking along two axes can redistribute toner and permit virtually 100% use of the supplied amount when the toner gets down to those final few milligrams.

The machine interior is (not surprisingly) finished more cheaply, and the chassis is more crowded, than the pricier models, so removal of paper jams is slower and less un-invasive of the operator''s time. However, continually more crowded chassis interiors has been a problem in HP and virtually all other machines for years now -every manufacturer wants the smallest footprint without regard for how that will inconvenience the user in the long run.

Overall, a much better deal for the college student not reqiring color printing than is an ink jet, where the ink costs will start to rival tuition costs before long.

HG Review written September 11, 2005 (09/11/05)

I have always been skeptical of printers it seems that whenever you need them most they malfunction. This is not the case for the HP LaserJet 1160. I have waited over 1 month from purchase to do this review just to make sure that it continued to deliver its fine performance... and it has!

What I like about the 1160

VERY fast even the most complex documents are printed in a matter of seconds.

Extremely Quiet the 1160 runs almost without any type of noise... just a low hum and *poof* your document is printed.

To date (knock on wood) I have not had a single jam! This is unheard of... no paper jams!

Great value with the rebate the 1160 cost about $250, which seemed like an exceptional value.

Setting-up and connecting to my laptop was a breeze.

In short, in the one month that I have owned the 1160I do not have a single complaint. Trust me... I NEVER thought I would say that about any printer. This is the one printer you can buy and not have to worry about.

This sturdy, little HP printer seems to be a work horse. It is perfect for printing ready-to-sign documents when with a client in the field. As near as I can sense, it has all the qualities of a larger model, but is small and light enough to carry with my laptop together in one case. I''ve had no problems at all and would recommend it without reservation.

This is a great printer and has come in handy more than once. I am in the military and do a great deal traveling around and this printer has been there to do the job numerous times. It is nice and compact where it fits in the same backpack as the laptop that I use it on. Have been able to print out items in the field being has a battery on the printer as well. Very lightweight and rugged as well. Is able to withstand some rough handling and bumping and still work like a champ. All around great product.

The H470 is a nifty little printer and prints very fast, but there is always a delay of 10-30 seconds before printing even starts. At times the delay is followed by a message of a mis-aligned cartridge, so I find myself a bit frustrated at times. The telling statistic is that if I had it to do over again, I would have done even more research and probably gotten a different printer.

The printer is small and portable. However, my unit did not work out of the box. Upon installation, the printer immediately gave an error message stating that the wrong color ink cartridge was installed. The color cartridge that was installed was the one packed in the box. A quick check of the documentation and web site confirmed that this was the correct cartridge. I had already ordered an extra set of cartridges, so I tried again with a different cartridge (correct model number) and it still had the same error message. All suggested fixes on the HP support site were tried with the same error message. The printer is noisy and slower than regular size printers when it does print, but it might be a price to pay for portability.

Contact with HP customer support e-mail resulted in a response that was courteous, yet later than the promised 24 hour response time. This resulted in more suggested procedures to rectify the problem, with the same error message. I was asked for a time which was convenient for me for someone to call to replace the printer. I gave them the time, and although I was promised a callback in 2-3 days, it has been 2 weeks without contact. I can''t help but think that customer support is an attempt to drag out the exchange process as long as possible. Why can''t they just give me an address to which I mail the defective printer?

Downloaded drivers from hp.com/support to avoid problems noted at other forums. Easy to use, love the two sided function(brings joy to my cheap little heart). Only problem is with HP not the printer. To use the wireless function I must use the HP wireless adapter, printer will not even acnkowledge my Linksys adapter.

After switching to Vista, we couldn''t get working drivers for our old printer and scanner. We first tried an HP all-in-one, but it had multiple paper jams from the get-go. So we tried the Canon. We''ve had this printer for about a month, and it''s fantastic in all regards. SOFTWARE is simple to use, and doesn''t take over your computer the way that HP software does. SCANNER is fast and easy. PRINTER puts out very good copies, and the "Light" setting is useful for basic printing while not using too much ink. The design is small and boxy (it reminds me of a 1950''s refrigerator, but small), and doesn''t take up much space. You can use it as a copier without the computer being on, which is quite handy.

The one I received from a 3 party didn''t work right the paper wouldn''t feed. Luckily, I kept the warranty information and luckily Canon said that it WAS new and still under warranty. They sent me a re-conditioned printer which works great and is still under the same warranty as my new one. Plus I got more free ink! So, I can''t complain about Canon and their warranty claiming process no hassle at all!

Also, you can control the sound of the printer by going into the printer properties and telling it to remain quiet all the time (or you can tell it print quietly at certain times). I am not really clear why someone would LOVE to have a noisy printer (it actually startled me the first time I heard it), but when I told it to "be quiet", the noise wasn''t too bad.

this is a really nice little printer. It''s cute, it''s reasonably quiet, paper feeds smoothly, documents print clean & crisp. I''ve never been so pleased with an inexpensive printer.

I can''t comment on scanning or photo-quality printing as I haven''t used those features but just as a general printer this is really nice. I''m very happy!

I''ve had this printer for coming up on two years, and it is a decent printer that was worth what I paid from Best Buy with my laptop, but not worth the current $150 price tag on here. I don''t recall it being very difficult to set up with the software, and mechanically it is not complicated. It is easy to use from either your computer or the printer itself, where it has a dedicated "scan" button and "black" and "color" buttons for copying. It did take me a couple minutes when I first started using it to realize that "duplex" printing meant double-sided. The print quality is decent. For black and white and basic color it''s fine; if you want to print photos, which I have done plenty of for flash cards, the quality is, again, decent. It doesn''t look wonderful, but it''s adequate. If you''re looking to print photos you can proudly display, look elsewhere. The print speed, once it gets going, is pretty good. However, you have to wait generally around 30-45 seconds before it will actually print anything, because it always decides that it wants to do whatever it''s doing making a bunch of noise for a while after you click the "print" button before it''ll actually start printing. If you''re looking for a quiet printer, definitely look elsewhere. It''s loud both in this pre-print ritual and when it is printing. Finally, the ink consumption is awful. Really, this thing drains ink like there''s no tomorrow, so be prepared to be purchasing more cartridges often if you print a lot. The good thing is that it doesn''t have dedicated color cartridges like some printers; it just has a single black and a single color cartridge.

Bottom line: if the price is still $150 here, don''t buy it. It is not worth it. If you see it somewhere else cheap (seems to me like mine was $30 or so with my laptop at Best Buy) and don''t mind the issues stated above, go ahead. For basic printing purposes it is really a pretty decent printer.

This is a very well built printer, I absolutely love it. I have scanned THOUSANDS of 3x5 and 4x6 pictures for my mom and her friends on this scanner. I have would then easily put them on a dvd. This scanner could scan 4 at a time. Such a time saver. I haven''t had an problems with this printer, which is rare with printers. The only negative is that it is loud, that''s why I call it a monster.

Konica Photo Quality High Gloss Heavy-Weight (10.4mil) Post Card Size

Konica Photo Quality High Gloss Heavy-Weight Post Card Size Paper
  • Post Card Size (4x6in) Paper
  • Inkjet Paper

The seller for this product was fast. My only complaint is that when I did a search on Amazon for heavy weight post card paper, this item came up so I bout it giving the right size. However, this isn''t heavy-weight photo paper and is the same quality as the HP Advanced paper. If one needs a heavy weight photo paper, I would suggest the type with a minimum thickness of 11mm.

Love this size holds pages from other major brand suppliers, like Day Timer, Franklin Covey, etc. A perfect size for my use. I find the size is great, not too small to write in, yet not so large it takes up a lot of real estate on my desk. I bought several so I can carry just the pages I want/need, like my shopping list.

I used it on a Canon MP560 photo inkjet printer. Results were great, the color rendition matched nicely with what was on my screen (perhaps helped by Canon printer). I''d rate it: color 9/10, brightness 8/10. I recommend using ''semi-gloss'' setting on your printer, as this paper isn''t totally glossy nor matte finish (its somewhere in-between). Thickness and quality is good, not photolab quality, but it has about the thickness of 3 sheets of regular printer paper in my opinion. All-in-all, a great price, and I would buy it again!

Note: I dont think not too many people know about this amazon product because it has a picture of a camera for its description and I totally overlooked this product when i was searching for photo paper to buy.

I found this paper to be rather thin.

I had purchased this to replace a package of photo paper from OfficeMax. I always prefer name brand products over store brands (I like made in USA too). However in this case I think the OfficeMax paper was better.

I would still like to use Kodak paper, but something thicker. If someone knows a Kodak alternative, chime in.

If Charles Barkley ever had to deal with this printer he would say it''s turrbull. Every time (and I do mean EVERY FREAKING TIME) I use this thing it wants to print the allignment page. It says there''s a paper jam about 90% of the times I try to print (of course there isn''t one) and I have to restart it multiple times to get it to work. It goes through ink like Mexican water goes through your stomach. The print quality is fair once it finally does print. I would say on a scale of 1-10 the print qulaity is about a 6 and the annoyance factor is roughly as high as America''s national debt. I''ve averaged that out and generously given it 2 stars.

This, is not the best printer.. But it does the job. I have had it for over 5 years, and the only reason it broke, is because my 2 year old pulled out the feed bar. It prints lines through photos, and eats ink like crazy!
