I bought this paper because it was the best paper at Staples. It seems high quality, 100% cotton is some of the best. Looks nice, feels nice, will make good impression.

The watermark could use some help, however. They conveniently have the viewing window in the box positioned so you cannot see the watermark (and I could not open the box in the store, I tried, too many people around back-to-school shopping).

The watermark says: "Southworth Connoisseur Collection 100% Cotton Fiber".

Why oh why would someone want this on their resume, unless they were applying for a job at Southworth? I would prefer if there were NO watermark! Or even a generic watermark like "Resume 100% Cotton Fiber" or something.

Not only that, but the watermark is not centered on the paper. On some sheets, half the watermark is at the top and the other half is on the bottom!

All-in-all, excellent quality paper, good look, nice feel, will leave lasting impression but watermark is unprofessional and degrades from the quality of the paper rather than adds to it.

Somehow every page I printed the damn Southworth logo found a way to peek through the blank spaces because it''s printed inconsistently and TOO DAMN CONSPICUOUSLY

I don''t really want to risk it so I might have to go out to look for unmarked resume paper.

I recently purchased this paper and it is nice looking. But do I really want to advertise Southworth on my resume? The watermark is hard not to notice. Also the 100% cotton allows for ink bleeding. A friend told me about Wausau Papers Resume Kit and the paper is great and it also doesn''t let the ink bleed. In fact the print quality was sharpest I have seen. Oh...the price was better and it came with 50 envelopes. What a buy...

Pay good money for resume paper that has a big old logo on the middle of it. I''ve never seen and paper purchased for any printing have the companies logo on it. TACKY, waste of money.

I wish I had read the reviews here before buying, but I was in a hurry and picked this up at a Big Box store. There is a 3x1.5 inch water mark on every page that advertises the company name (see picture).

I don''t want anything on my resume that I didn''t purposefully include.

Avoid this paper if you are looking for a professional resume.

We purchase toner for our Brother All-in-one about once every year. Obviously, some of the colors we go through faster than others, but overall, it averages to once a year. We tried the refilled cartridges and were not happy with them at all. They tended to leak and streak and cause us more down time than the savings was worth. No, we are happy with these and we aren''t going back.

I purchased this toner a few months ago in anticipation of needed replacement. Now that it''s in the printer and I''ve used the machine a few times, the printer is signaling "out of toner". One would think that a mathematical impossibility, given that I''ve printed fewer than 200 pages of black print only (no color prints at all). But no--my Brother HL-4070CDW refuses to print another page until I replace this magenta cartridge. Unfortunately I am past the return date, and will have to buy one if I want to use the machine. Let''s hope I get more out of the next cartridge...

Back in the day, ink was just one of those things you had to get to keep a printer functioning, like a power cord, paper, what have you. Now, the ink is definitely the star of the show. Powerful graphics that literally snatch you up from your seat and shake you and say "Look at me!" If dreams were in color, they would be in Brother Magenta for HL 4040CN.

This is a fantastic printer. We have used 2 of them for over 2 years. Until firmware ver 1.38 came out. Now it will not allow printing to continue if the head has the slightest clog. It will not even print out the sheet showing if the head is clogged. It just stops and says print head must be replaced ($500 to $600 ea) Tech support just says that the print heads are expendable.

The iPF5100 is a large, high quality printer, capable of output as good as or better than the competition and of more expensive printers. The ink usage is tolerable, and the paper handling is superb. Black and white images on art paper are IMHO best of class.

Setup is quite easy. The roll paper unit works very well. Bronzing is no worse, but probably no better than the competition.

There are many who will argue about definition in the complex design of the droplets deposited onto the page, just photographers would over argue over the characteristic grain of various print papers, yet few will be using a magnifying loop to enjoy the artistic quality of a 16x20 print. The point being, the dot pattern looks different than the competition, not worse or better, just different. At any normal viewing distance this is not of question.

Speed is good enough I have not timed output.

There are some quirks with print driver, not difficult, just a little different way of modeling the tasks than others have used.

I have called Canon on occasion with questions and found their support and attitude of help to be top notch.

This printer makes exceptional prints on a wide variety of paper and is built like a tank. However, it''s definitely not for point and shoot hobbyists, or even impatient amateurs.

Ink usage seems far less than my comparable epsons, and this printer is never clogged, meaning no wasted paper. However, it takes a while to figure out, and it takes a bit of work. For instance, the media type must be chosen in the driver software as well as on the printer hardware itself to ensure that the right ink, vaccuum settings, etc. are in place.

Moreover, using this means you need a good working knowledge of color profiling, and you should probably add a ColorMunki Photo to your cart, because you''ll want that to make sure your monitor is calibrated, and to produce custom print profiles for the iPF if you don''t use the factory paper and canned profiles (or even if you do).

This thing comes in a box big enough to ship Vlad, his dirt, and a few of his minions, so make sure you have a 6 pack on hand to lure in the local knuckle draggers to help you get it up the stairs. And get a sturdy table to put this 100 pounder on. I used an office task table -but with a file cabinet underneath to keep it standing strong.

I bought this printer at the end of 2008 and have replaced the printheads 3 times. That''s both the right and left heads at 500.00 each. This printer is a print head nightmare! I doubt seriously if I would ever buy another Canon printer. Prints are great, speed is great. Cost of operation is horrible. It is more cost effective to have my work printed out at a vendor then do it in house.

I''ve had the IPF 5000 for about 2 years and never been happy with it. First, if you own a mac, it''s a real coin toss as to weather the drivers are going to work. When a new Mac OS comes out, it''s unbelievable how long Canon takes to update the driver. You almost have to keep a dedicated system/computer that you don''t upgrade hooked up to the printer for it to work. When I was finally able to get prints out, the are beautiful. Yesterday (Sept 1st, 2009) I had a technician out because I was getting a "carriage motion error." Turns out the replacement parts would be over $900. It''s a $1300 machine. For $1300 I would expect more than 2 years of limited output. For a "pro-level" printer, I would look elsewhere. Canon doesn''t give enough support to warrant the price.

Brother ADS2000 High Speed Document Scanner, Black Save 20% off

Brother ADS2000 High Speed Document Scanner, Black
  • Scans up to 24ppm B&W and Color
  • Two sided scanning
  • Resolution up to 600dpi (optical)
  • Up to 50-page auto document feed capacity (ADF)
  • Scan a variety of document types including business cards and ID cards

Preface: I own a business that operates in several locations and I use document scanners on a daily basis. Over the years I have owned quite a variety of these types of machines and have had some good ones and bad ones. Out of all of them, my Fujitsu Scansnap s1500 has always been my favorite. This has just changed!

I LOVE this scanner:

Installation:

Popped in the disk, installed the software, plugged in unit, hit scan button = 5 minutes from unboxing to results. Fast and easy.

Software:

When you run the software "ControlCenter4" for the first time, you get a choice to default to "Home Mode" or "Advanced Mode". Typically with software this is just a way programmers use to hide extra buttons that might confuse some users. In this case, however, they are two COMPLETELY different interfaces they don''t even look like the same software.

*Before going further with the interfaces, let me stop by saying many people, myself included, will rarely use the ControlCenter4 software. When I use document scanners I want one function: press the button and have it dump a PDF into my predetermined destination. It does this perfectly out of the box. The ControlCenter is when you have an occasional job where you want a different outcome (i.e. scan a stack of 4x6 photos into JPG''s)

Home Mode:

Choices are: photo, text and graphics, monochrome text, custom. Custom mode allows you to change resolution, color, simplex/duplex scanning (1 or 2 sided)

Advanced Mode:

Buttons are: image, OCR, E-mail, File. When you right-click on one of the buttons, you can change all the settings and program them to that button. Settings available are: file type, target application, destination file path, resolution, scan type (color bit depth), document size, and simplex/duplex. Once you set them, the settings are sticky so they will remain the same the next time you use them.

I guess I must fall into the "Advanced User" category, because I really prefer this setup to the "Home Mode"

Scan quality:

The quality of the scans are great. This is true of most scanners, so I expected this.

Speed:

During my tests, I was quite surprised at how fast it seemed. Sure enough, its faster than my the Fujitsu: 24ppm vs 20ppm.

Build:

The scanner is larger than most, but not huge. It is a nice-looking machine and feels solid and well-built.

Features:

This scanner has a unique feature I have never seen before. On the scanner is a USB port. If you plug in a memory-stick, the scanner has a button that allows it to scan directly to it. This would be great in a scenario where you needed to bring the scanner with you on-site and needed to scan some documents for later.

My only gripe: Like the Scansnap, it has no power button, but instead of turning off when you close the lid, the scanner just "goes to sleep" after 15 minutes. In the configuration, you can change the amount of time to something smaller, but I still would have liked it to just turn off when the lid is closed.

Conclusion:

Overall, I think this is a FANTASTIC scanner. It does everything I want it to do and it does it well. The interface is the least-clunky interface of all the scanners I''ve used/owned and the results are great. It''s fast, well-built, and looks good on my desk. And finally, at its current price, it is quite a bit cheaper than its main competitor, which should make this an easy choice.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

For some time now, I''ve been digitizing twenty-five years worth of office files. I first started using a Fujitsu ScanSnap S510. When I acquired an Epson GT-S50, it pretty much replaced the Fujitsu...I wrote a review comparing the two. Now I have the Brother, it seems natural to write another comparative review. They''re sitting side-by-side on my desk and hooked up to the same computer. (Since someone asked: Windows 7, Intel i5-2400 processor, 16Gb memory, 128 Gb SSD primary disk and 4Tb of secondary disks. Both scanners are connected directly to separate USB ports without going through an external hub. I use PaperPort 14 to drive the scanners and organize the output files. This is my primary office computer, not a dedicated test system, so I have lots of miscellaneous crud loaded on it.)

Installation: Both units, as you would expect, are well packed by their manufacturers and arrived safely. UPS crunched the Brother''s outer Amazon box, but the scanner''s box was intact inside. Installation follows the normal process...hunt for and remove the packing tape, power it up, install the software and finally connect the scanner to the USB port. A 6'' USB cable comes with the Brother. The instructions say not to go over 6'', but it''s working fine with a $5 10'' cable...6'' is too short to reach to my computer. Both units come with a neutered version of PaperPort 12. I recommend installing it and immediately upgrading to PP14. (The upgrade is almost always on sale from one store or another for roughly half list. Since I already had PP14 installed, I skipped the installation of PP12se.) Both scanners have TWAIN and WIA drivers, so they can be used by practically every scanner enabled software package.

Both scanners have wedged-shaped bodies. The Epson is about 1-1/2" taller and blockier; the Brother is more sloped and sleek looking. The Brother is also a bit deeper and the tray protrudes about an inch more...not enough to make a difference in any practical sense.

Performance: To test the two scanners, I set the scanner drivers to similar settings and ran different types of documents through them. To summarize the results, the Brother scanned documents significantly faster at 300 dpi. The scanners approached parity at 150dpi, while the difference in scanning speed was dramatic at 600dpi.

B&W documentfifty pages 300dpi

....Epson GT-50 4:07.1 sec

....Brother ADS-2000 1:56.4 sec

Multi-page form 8 pages double sided, flip vertical 300dpi

....Epson 45.8 seconds

....Brother 20.3 seconds

Multi-page form 8 pages double sided, flip vertical 150dpi

....Epson 22.0

....Brother 21.8

Multi-page form 8 pages double sided, flip vertical 600dpi

....Brother 42.2

....Epson 1:47.8 sec

Multi-page form 8 pages double sided, flip vertical 1200dpi

....Brother 40.6 sec

....Epson Not Available

(Note: the optical resolution of the Brother is 600dpi. 1200dpi is via software interpolation)

I ran two tests to check color scanning ability. One test consists of a light blue grid printed on ten different colored sheets of paper. Ideally, the surrounding color shouldn''t affect the scanned image of the blue lines. In practice, both scanners showed some impact from the surrounding colors; however the Epson fared much worse, especially with the bright red and orange backgrounds...the blue lines turned to a muddy red and orange respectively. Scanned images from the Brother were a much closer match to the originals. Both scanners maintained a nice even spacing of the horizontal lines. Slight changes in paper feed rate (which you don''t want) would have caused the line spacing to vary slightly.

For the other test, I scanned a printed color test card that''s primarily used to test cameras and lenses. This test doesn''t measure how fast the scanner can switch between colors, like the first test, but rather tests color fidelity. Compared to the Epson, the Brother produced somewhat more saturated colors and more closely matched the original. The difference, though, was slight and easily correctable in any image processing software. (I use Adobe Lightroom 4 and/or Photoshop, depending on what needs doing)

OCR: The Epson uses Abbyy FineReader 6.0 software for character recognition. I''m not sure what Brother uses. Both work decent if you feed them a block of text (typed document, newspaper article, etc.), but the Brother bombed rather spectacularly when I tried to OCR the 8 page form that I used to test scanning speed. With different type sizes, typefaces, boxes with labels inside of other boxes, numbers with commas, background screened colors and all kinds of other fun things, it was unable to reconstruct the form using anything other than the Scan to PDF setting...and even then it was pretty pathetic. The Epson, using the Abbyy software, did a much better job.

The Brother has the following output file formats: Scan to Word 2K (or W97) RTF, searchable PDF, Excel (2003 or 97) XLS, TXT, HTML 3.2 or 4.0, and WordPerfect 8, 9 or 10. Note that the "new" (Office 2010) Microsoft file formats (docx, xslsx, etc.) are unavailable. It works, but it''s obviously dated software.

Both scanners can scan both sides of a page in one pass and can be set to skip the blank pages in the output file. Settings are also available to automatically rotate upside-down pages, crop the scan to fit the document, remove punch holes and other useful functions.

Both scanners can scan business cards and embossed credit cards. Either one would work in a medical office to scan ID cards.

Both scanners come with software to control what happens when you push the front buttons. I never use the buttons, preferring to drive the scanner from my computer...I''m usually scanning many documents at once and want to rename them as I go.

The Epson uses a separate power supply. The Brother uses a standard cord. I prefer the cord. It''s one less thing kicking around under my desk.

Which would I recommend? It totally depends on your needs. A couple of years ago, when I compared the ScanSnap s510 to the Epson, the Epson came out on top. Now, after a month, with the Brother sitting next to my Epson GT-S50, I find myself almost always using the Brother. It''s faster and I almost never need the OCR function. If OCR was a primary requirement, I''d probably still use the Brother along with a separately purchased copy of Abbyy FineReader 11. For scanning photographs, I recommend a flatbed unit that''s designed primarily for that purpose. These will both work, but the automatic dust removal software included with photoscanners will save you many hours of touch-up work. If you just occasionally need to scan documents, both of these scanners are complete overkill and a good all-in-one should work fine...just make sure that it can do two-sided scanning.

The scanner hardware deserves five stars. I''m dunning it a point because of the old drivers and the poor OCR performance. When/If that gets updated, this is clearly a five (if not six) star device.

The Brother ADS-2000 does a great job, though just doesn''t quite live up to the price tag. I also have a portable Fujitsu SanSnap S1300, which has all the same features at a much lower cost, and also takes up much less desk space (in addition to being portable). The ScanSnap is a little slower and does have a smaller document capacity, so it''s not a fit for everyone.

The ADS-2000 has an "auto" mode to detect color and page size. The auto detection for color works great, saving space by picking out the pages with color and scanning the rest in black and white, reducing the file size. The auto detection of page size didn''t work as well, adding around 1/4" at the margins, and a line at the top of the scanned image.

The scanned file size was initially huge. You can adjust the settings to reduce the size. However, the file size is over twice as large compared with the ScanSnap using the same settings (file type, dpi, etc.). One great feature is that the Brother has maximum flexibility in terms of file types and settings. It is unlikely this machine will be unable to perform a scanning function you need.

The Brother ADS-2000 uses ControlCenter 4 software. I was familiar with ControlCenter 3 through an earlier Brother product. The software is middle-of-the-road in terms of ease; it''s not complex, but I wouldn''t call it easy to use. The ScanSnap software is a little more difficult to use.

Overall, the Brother ADS-2000 is a good scanner. I would just take a look at the ScanSnap 1300 (less expensive than the ADS-2000) and ScanSnap 1500 (more expensive than the ADS-2000), compare the features, and decide what''s best for you.

I was trying to organize my stack of mail and paperwork in my house. In the process of setting all my network storage to sync with cloud storage, I thought I needed a high quality, fast scanner that can scan stacks of papers in seconds instead of 1 sheet at a time on my flatbed scanner. I was searching online and found several other products (some which are advertised on TV) and are almost as pricey as this scanner. I firmly believe you get what you pay for. After having good luck with Brother Products in the past, I decided to take the jump. I purchased this item and do not regret my choice for one second. I only use MAC in my house and that was a huge part it included mac and PC software. It''s not FANTASTIC, but it does what it''s advertised to do. The scan quality is really good for being so fast. The other product I was researching was a "Neat" product, but I felt going with a brand I knew was better. I can say I''ve had problems with pages sticking together (generally ones that were folded really tight in envelopes) but that just takes time to fan the pages out so they don''t stick. My overall experience has been very positive, and I will be recommending this to several businesses I do consulting work for!

Compare to Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 which I had, this Brother ADS-2000 seems to be a bit faster but the pdf file size produced is about 4 times larger. 6 pages of letter size lecturer''s note 4MB while Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 produces 11 pages of letter size lecturer''s note in just under 2MB.

As for text quality, zoom in 200% and you will find Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 is a bit sharper.

However Brother ADS-2000 is a TWAIN scanner, so you can use any TWAIN software with the scanner unlike Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 must use its own proprietary software.

Another thing, Brother ADS-2000 is about $100 cheaper but money saved to pay for disk storage.

Sharp EL-1801V Adding Machine

I was looking for a fluorescent display because they are easier for me to read. This "calculator" operates just like what we used to call an "adding machine". You put in the number, then press the function (i.e., add or subtract, etc. the number), and repeat again for the next number...then hit the total button and you get the total. This unit works exactly like adding machines have worked for many decades (but this one is faster, lighter and smaller than the old machines). Some folks (my wife included) were disappointed because this adding machine does not function as a "calculator". With "calculators", you enter a number, then enter "add or minus" button, then the second number and there is your total. You do not have to tell the machine how to handle each number you enter, beginning with the first number. Even so, this is an excellent printing adding machine. This one is suited for folks who do taxes, business folks who need cost, sell, average, margin buttons because it has dedicated buttons for those functions. It is also great because you can read the lighted display n any lighting situation. On top of that, you get a bonus feature because this machine can tell you how much change the customer is due. You put in the price of the item, subtract the currency the customer gives you, press the blue "change" button at the top left of keyboard and "Viola", the amount of change that the customer should get is displayed.

This machine takes standard size printing paper and prints fast in 2 colors (red and black). You also have the choice of selecting whether or not you want the machine to give you a count of the number of items you have added, plus another button that will add the date (and time) the paper tape was run. It has an internal battery that keeps track of the date and time. The date and time are not constantly displayed, but one press of the "clock/calender" button will give you the date and/or time (after you set it up of course).

The instructions for setting it up are easy to follow.

This is a wonderful device for us mathematically challenged folks. The Amazon 3rd party vendor "Best Source Stationer" (in Monroe, NY) is excellent. Best Source gave me an order confirmation, shipping notice confirmation, and very quick delivery. I highly recommend this product.

It is my fault, just wanted others to be aware of this.

Bottom-line, double check before you shop for replacement toner. This is a very confusing product, in that respect. Lexmark pushes recycling and the boxes have labels to return the toners.

My over all impression is that I really love it. The copy functions are simple and familiar symbols or labels. Software (printer drivers) are easy to update I hope they will!

This design is a little bit outdated, but for the price, it''s a great way to get into an affordable color laser printer, that is clean, simple, and intuitive. The only interactive display is a tiny 10 letter display (most new printers have an LCD). The user manual is in HTML format, so find the menu map and print it out. You can get there through that tiny front panel, but it takes a lot of time and a little patients. (I hope it has a Factor Reset option, if I ever mess this up...)

Overall, I think this is a very affordable color printer. And, a full set of replacement toner cartridges (a set of 4 can run $3-450) almost costs as much as the original printer. So, you may not want to stock up on new toner just plan to buy a new printer. Seriously!

But, don''t worry about the printer functions it''s laser sharp. The ink is durable, but it will smear if you get the paper wet. It won''t survive a coffee spill.

Pros: Solid color laser printer; accurate scanner with sheet feeder, copier functions. Mac drivers.

Cons: Toner is hard to find, confusing/deceptive; no single sheet over-ride; no scanner app.

Note: I did not test this printer with Windows.

Since I wrote this review, I have upgraded from Mac OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard) to 10.7 (Lion). A lot changed the scanner function now is found on the printer driver (click on the printer in "Printers" or from the icon on the dock). The SCAN function is at the top of the usual PRINT window. Regardless, the scanner function is unreliable it frequently just quits responding with no error messages. I have to cycle power on the printer to get it scanning again.

Second MAJOR disappointment. It will not print double sided without jamming. When I use the single sheet feeder (letterhead or envelopes), it ALWAYS jams and the paper never comes out of the printer. Something is badly misaligned or designed wrong.

FYI: An office I work in just about the X544 (this year''s model of the same thing) and it failed even worse. Sheet feeder will not work. They sent it back and opted for an HP that cost twice as much.

My high rating (4 stars) reflects the value of the printer. It''s a great printer for single sided work and medium capacity office printing. Just don''t expect the other features to work (i.e. single sheet, envelope or double sided printing).

Also, it has developed a squeeky roller wheel after running about two cases of paper through it over 2 years.

GOOD Value, just not as feature rich as it would appear.

The printed output from the x543 is great. Crisp, colorful exactly what I''d hoped. And, it''s reasonably quiet. Double-sided printing works perfectly (though it does slow output). Contrary to what the previous reviewer said, I am offered the option to print double-sided on every document, in every application. (And you can buy the toner right here on Amazon.)

However, the scanner is a nightmare. It takes 15 clicks for every scanned document to set up a "scan profile", choose your options, point the machine to the destination folder, get assigned a "shortcut" (ha!) for that scan job, then you go to the scanner, key in the shortcut on the machine itself, wait for the scan, then go back to the computer, click "launch" on the profile you created, and once again, point the machine to your destination folder.

It would be one thing if you had to do all this once to set it up, but I can tell you after 4 long calls with tech support, that you must do this for every scan. Hello? I typically scan 10-20 items/day. Can you imagine doing that whole sequence 20 times.

I''m running this on a Mac, but when I saw the problem, I installed it again in Windows 7 Ultimate, running via Parallels. Same outcome. No difference. And it''s not even clear if the company expects any better than this.(No one has said, "holy cow, it''s not supposed to work this way".)

Finally, Lexmark is the only company I''ve dealt with in 20+ years as an active computer user, to insist you allow their tech support people to remotely take over your computer (to try fixing it themselves). If you don''t agree online to a license for them to do it, they won''t help you.

Security anyone?

Great printer (thus 3 stars, rather than one). Terrible Scanner.

p.s. No fax capability on this "all-in-one".

This multi-functional printer comes with automatic duplex color printing,

and it has a 600dpi scanner that supports scanning from both flatbed and document feeder.

It comes with a RJ45 jack to support network printing/scanning, and it supports Windows''s WSD protocol so the printer is automatically detected and installed without hassle.

It supports PostScript printer language, so no problem printing from other operating system such as Linux.

Another good thing is that it comes with a web interface, scanning can be done on any browser that supports Java applets, without the need of a driver, which is a big plus for dual boot user like me. The web interface can also be used to check printer status like cartridge life, and to manage settings, so basically no need to play with the small 2-line LCD console.

One shortcoming is that it doesn''t support duplex scanning, and duplex printing is slow, but that''s no big deal considering the 450$ price tag.

Printer works well over ethernet, not much to complain about there

The toner that comes with the printer runs out after about 50~100 pages of very light color use(text and small images)..... Pretty much a demo scam for the ink. My 3 other Dell Color Laser printers all lasted over 1000 pages at the same usage level...

Buyer bewarethe toner cost must be factored into the purchase of the printer in less than a month or so of ownership.

I had no trouble setting up this printer according to manufacturer''s instructions. This included installing the drivers and physically taking the printer out of the box, removing all the tape, setting up all the trays, etc. My problem seems to be a physical/mechanical problem with the printer itself. When I went to register the printer, there were instructions to tell the printer to print out a few pages of information so that I could get the SID to register the printer. After following the directions, the printer printed out 3 pages that had unreadable blank streaks on the right side of the page such that I couldn''t read the SID or anything else on the right side of the page along the 2 blank lines (about 2 cm wide) stretching from the top of the page to the bottom.

I went to the manufacturer''s website for troubleshooting and it recommended first checking that you are using the right paper, that you clean the toner cartridge head, and make sure there is adequate toner. It''s a new printer with new cartridges and I was using standard size/thickness paper. I took out the toner cartridges and wiped them all off and tapped them so that if there''s no imbalance in toner levels. The next 6 pages printed all still had the same streak. I then removed the black and white toner cartridge and replaced it with the magenta one to see if the problem was localized to that one cartridge roll. But the magenta toner printed pages with the exact same defect so it wasn''t a problem with any of the hardware associated with that particular toner cartridge''s rollers. I am guessing that there is something wrong with the photoconductor drum and it couldn''t hold a charge in the exact location where the printer couldn''t seem to print anything out.

This is a brand new printer (NOT refurbished!) straight out of the box unable to print a legible first page! For close to half a grand, I expect a printer that will at the bare minimum be able to PRINT out of the box. I never got a chance to test the scan ability of the AIO device because it was shipped back to Amazon for a refund ASAP.

After purchasing the Polycom SoundStation 2 (Non Expandable) (2200-16000-001), I purchased the Computer Calling Kit from another vendor that Polycom linked to, that appeared to be the correct cable. Unknown to me at the time, was that there are TWO calling kits each for different phone models (see ).

The cable that almost everyone is selling, on Amazon and elsewhere, is the 2200-07878-001 (labeled 2457-17240-001), and it DOES NOT WORK with the SoundStation2 (see ).

I was about to give up and return the phone to purchase an inferior model that comes with the computer calling kit bundled, when I finally found this item. Though the cables look exactly the same externally, once I plugged it into my SoundStation2, I was finally able to use it as both speaker AND microphone for Skype calling.

THANK YOU! I have no idea why nobody else sells this cable, but you''ve saved me by having it!

I had an Epson 785EPX photo printer and when it worked, the prints were beautiful. However, my printer heads were constantly clogging and I wasted tons of ink cleaning the heads all the time. The ink is not cheap. So, I started researching for a new photo printer. I chose the Canon line because they have a reputation for cheaper ink. I found this to be true when I purchased the Canon i250 to replace another Epson ink hog (the 640) for my general printing. (I keep one printer for general printing, one for photos) The Canon ink cartridges ARE cheaper and last longer. After reading reviews on photo printers I decided between the Canon ip4000 and the ip6000d. The ip4000 got amazing reviews both from consumers and magazines. There weren''t a lot of reviews on the ip6000d I suppose because it''s newer. I decided to risk buying the ip6000d anyways because I really wanted the media input slot for convenience. I''m here to say the photos are AMAZING and of photo lab quality. I tested using the included Canon Photo Paper Pro and also my leftover Epson Premium Photo Glossy Paper. Both papers produced the same results. The printer unpacked and installed easily. For printing without the computer, the menu/LCD screen on the printer is intuitive and easy to use. For printing through the computer, the software program ''Easy Photo-Print'' stands by it''s name. A couple of mouse clicks and the perfect print came out. If it matters, my digital camera is a Kodak DX6490. There are two things to watch for while setting up your ip6000d for the first time. Both have to do with loading paper into the cassette tray. Make sure you load the paper PRINT SIDE DOWN and watch out for the little plastic thingy that holds the paper in place. Mine broke off and the spring flew off who knows where. It still works but just moves around easily. Since I just got the printer today I can''t comment on long term use or ink usage for sure. I''ve printed about 10 4X6''s so far and 3 of the 6 tanks show a very slim line for usage.

I LOVE Canon printers and feel that they are the best ink jet printers made for many, many reasons. I have owned all brands, and, truthfully, Canons slipped badly for several years, but in the past year they have zoomed again into the lead. The ip6000D is no exception to the quality build and quality results that Canon printers produce. The problem is that I was needing a CD/DVD printer and all the web info, as well as Canon''s own publicity for this printer, their pdf file on this printer, and many sites selling this printer all indicate that it does print CDs/DVDs. Thus, I ordered it from Amazon, my favorite web purchase store. When it arrived, I noticed it had no CD tray and there was nothing in the book about printing CDs or DVDs. I called Canon and they said they were not aware of the printer and would do some research. About 5 minutes later the guy came back and said that the printer WITH THE EXACT SAME NAME had CD printing support in ALL countries except the U.S. I told him that having the same name and number system was absurd with different features. He blew me off. So beware, if you want to print CDs or DVDs, this is NOT the printer to get. But for everything else it is the best choice for home or office and especially for photo printing. With Canon printers, you get amazing quality, cheap refills, no clogging, no chips in the refills, and no paper jams. Without the problem I have cited and all my hours on this issue, it would get 5-stars from me as all recent Canons have. The Epsons and HPs are in a second level and the Lexmarks are at the bottom. I have to go with the Epson Stylus R200 for my CD printing, despite the fact that I did not want to go back to Epson. Amazon, as ususal, accepted my return without hesitation and remain THE kick ass company to do business with.

I have had the printer for over six months now. We use it at work and print a large number of 4 X 6 photos. We are delighted with the photos and with the text printing we have done. And I''m very fond of the dual paper paths, since we can keep the photo paper in the bottom tray with the letter paper in the upper slot. The multiple ink tanks are very economical, reasonably priced and despite being small they go a long way. Sometimes it is hard to see the lcd screen in the area we have the printer, but besides that it is really great to be able to print a fast photo without booting up the computer.

I do have just a few observations about the printer, the paper and the ink.

As I indicated above, the backlighting of the lcd isn''t the best, and sometimes it is very hard to see what you are printing. Even changing the angle of the screen doesn''t always help. I''m going to be readjusting the task lighting in the area soon. If you are limited in the placement of the printer you may need to do the same.

The printer will start nagging you to change ink cartridges long before you actually need to do it. I think of the first message as really a reminder to buy a new cartridge when you go out. Unless you are printing a photo that is almost all one color or a page that has been almost entirely blacked out, you should have more than enough ink to print a minimum of half a dozen 6 X 4s or a ten page letter.

I don''t know which HP paper another user was using but the photo paper we tried wouldn''t take the ink at all. The resulting prints where interesting, they ended looking like a matte multicolor paint crackle effect over a black background when they finally dried, But no one would have been able to tell you what the original image was. I would be very careful about the HPphoto paper. Sure try it if you already have it or are given it, but If I was buying it, I''d get the smallest pack possible until you know for sure it will work.

All in all, this is one fine printer, for both text and photos.

I use this printer to print both black & white as well as color photos. It is the finest photo printer that I have used to date. Photos from my Nikon D70 as well as restored antique photos look great when printed from the Canon iP6000D. Couldn''t be happier!

My review is just to say that this printer ink is probably what you''re expecting to receive. The XL is a better deal than the normal size, and works out to be cheaper over the long run. I did all the math and research on this, so you can trust me on that. This price is good unless you have a coupon somewhere -I checked Staples and all the other name brand stores. So, don''t over-research if you need HP 564 printer ink. This is a good deal.

As owner of several ink jet printers before my present purchase, I found the actual combination of HP All-in-one Photo Smart Premium Technology with HP Ink quality very successful and hard to be surpassed. The easiness of cartridge(s) replacement and the sharp and crispy photographs I can get on my own, make the real difference between original HP ink cartridges and the several "no name" products on the market.

I expect that an ink cartridge will be as described and will work when it arrives at my door. When I ordered this one, Amazon wasn''t selling directly so I bought from 3rd party seller on Amazon. The listing indicated the order would be fulfilled by Amazon so I thought it was a safe bet. Now I learned that "fulfilled by" and "sold by" do not mean the same thing when it comes to Amazon ensuring the quality of goods delivered.

The cartridge arrived and WAS NOT IN RETAIL PACKAGING and had an expiration date only a few weeks in the future. When I installed in printer, the printer rejected it as a defective.

After reading some other reviews for several Amazon 3rd party ink vendors it became apparent that it is common practice for these people to try to pawn off old/unreliable ink that has already been rejected by HP. There are countless complaints against multiple vendors that describe the same situation as I experienced old ink, removed from retail packaging. I suppose the ink cartridges are removed from retail packaging because HP had marked the packages as "Not For Resale" or something similar. Or maybe it is to make the expiration date harder to find. Or both.

At any rate, if a cartridge is shown as sold by and shipped from Amazon, you''re probably good to go. If sold by anybody else on this site beware. I had to ship the bad cartridge back. As luck would have it, Amazon resumed selling this cartridge and I replaced with a good one directly from Amazon.

Two weeks ago I needed a black cartridge and prepared to order from Amazon. The only ones available were from 3rd party sellers so I followed my own advice and bought one elsewhere. Amazon needs to do a better job of policing the vendors selling ink cartridges.

I have mixed feeling about this. The printhead solved my printing problems--gaps on the printed page--but it''s only replacing a part that failed a little more than a year after being put into light service--just enough for the warranty to expire! I called HP customer service and they charged me $39 to tell me I have to buy a new printhead from them for $72. I found this one at Amazon for almost half the price (both are genuine HP parts). I did get my $39 refunded from HP but only after an hour long hassle that turned my opinion of HP from very positive to, well, they''re just another computer company. Reality bites.

I bought this B/Y printhead to fix a problem with my HP OfficeJet Pro L7780 all-in-one. It''s a problem that cannot be fixed.

The entire OfficeJet Pro L7700 series is a crate of lemons. Don''t take my word for it: read the USER reviews at amazon.com and cnet.com.

If you have an all-in-one or printer from the HP OfficeJet Pro L7700 series, and it tells you that either of your printheads is bad, OR if you have a problem with your all-in-one and HP Support tells you to replace the printhead, DON''T DO IT. The new printhead may fix the problem for about 50 pages, and then the problem will return -or a new problem will arise.

I''m serious. Don''t waste your money on this. You will be throwing good money after bad. For the price of two printheads (which is what you''ll end up spending anyway, and two new printheads WILL NOT solve your problem), you can buy a brand new all-in-one from Canon or Lexmark. And the brand new all-in-one has a better warranty than the replacement printheads.

This is the second time the black/yellow printhead has failed for me on the HP L7680 All-in-one printer. This time it lasted only 41 days -home use with low # of copies printed. This particular printer is a clunky piece of junk and I won''t buy HP again.

I have used HP L7590 Officejet Pro for little over a year and I had to replace both print heads twice. HP suggested that I "abused" the unit... which means that average of 4 pages per day is too much for their equipment. HP had me replace both printheads ($80 apiece). Only four months later the printer experienced the same issue all over again. After 45 minutes on hold and brief (3 questions) inquire from HP rep I learned that printheads are probably fine, but the printer''s hardware overheated and needs to be replaced. By the way: HP did not honor warranties on either printer or printheads. Frankly, I''m very disappointed with a product as well as service. Huge let down.

My old fax was still working, but it seemed like It was getting paper jams every other sheet. It also didn''t have an attached phone.....so when I saw this one and read the reviews, I thoguht I''d give it a chance. Not only that, but I got one heck of a deal via Amazon.com and one of their suppliers. I was offered through BUY.COM for $28.99 and they were including FREE SHIPPING!!! Maybe they had a special, because I see the price is back up. Anyway, got it within 5 days of ordering it via UPS. Set up is a breeze. Ink that comes with it is MINIMAL... so if you do a lot of printing, buy another cartridge right away. After reading the instructions, I FINALLY DISCOVERED WHY I MIGHT HAVE BEEN GETTING PAPER JAMS USING MY OLD MACHINE..... It''s the paper!!! I typically use Office Depot or Office Max 113 or 115 brightness grade/ 24 pound paper which has a very smooth surface. IF YOU DONT "FAN" YOUR SHEETS BEFORE YOU PUT IT IN THE HOLDER.......THEY TEND TO STICK TOGETHER AND WILL JAM THE MACHINE!!! I tried that technique with my old fax machine......and presto.....no more jams!!! I could just kick myself. I guess it pays to read the instructions.

Anyway, It does an OK job of producing copies...Not as sharp/crisp as my old Canon Fax/Printer/Copier. So if you''re using a poor copy to begin with, what you copy from that will be worse. That''s why I gave it 4 of 5 stars. I just dont think it will be good for someone having to print or copy graphics or photos. Phone has a good "sound" to it. Other down side is there ins''t any paper catch.....so you need to set it on wide table to catch what comes out.

i''ve used the original version of this paper for a long time.

it was great: glossy, bright white and produced clean sharp images.

this new version is no good at all. paper is yellowish, rough, satin finish, produces dull, washed out images.

i have no idea what paper to suggest as a replacement to the original Q1987A, but this sure isn''t it!!!!!

Like others here, I''ve been using this product (or, I should say, this product number) for years. It provided very good handling of photos and text for a relatively lightweight, 2 sided paper. Yes, there was some variability in print density from one batch to the next, but it was easily dealt with.

I just bought a new package, same SKU as before (Q1987A, made in Germany) but the product inside is completely different! A distinctly yellow white vs. the previous brilliant white and a sort of stippled "gloss" surface - really more satin than gloss. Also, the ink pickup is a LOT lighter than before, requiring that I crank up the density adjustment on my computer to the max just to get decent-looking text.

This new product is not acceptable.

Out of desperation, I tried some Office Depot private label gloss brochure paper. After some fiddling with the print profile, it printed much better than the "new" HP actually pretty close to the old HP.

Traditionally, HP has been the gold standard for inkjet papers. (Their Premium Plus Photo is certainly my favorite in that department.) This disaster with the brochure paper is just bizarre. I''d love to hear their explanation.
