Canon BJC-5100 Bubble Jet Printer

Canon BJC-5100 Bubble Jet Printer
  • 1,440 x 720 dpi color output
  • 7-color photo printing (with optional photo cartridge)
  • Media up to 11 by 17 inches
  • Up to 10 ppm black, 4 ppm color
  • Complete software bundle

I was enticed by the supposed "photo quality" of this printer, which of course looked great in the store. I have had a continual problem with what I see on my monitor, not being what I get out of this printer. Serious color discrepancies. I have spent much time reworking a photo to get it to where I think the printer might respond to my liking. It''s too much guesswork, I don''t have the desire to try to get inside my printer''s mind that much. The really aggravating thing is the cost of the photo ink cartridge, at approximately $50 a pop. Ouch! And let me tell you, this thing is thirsty! After buying a couple of those, you could get a much better printer, which I''m about to do. OOps! For everyday printing of text and some graphics, I suppose it''s adequate. However, if you need to print photos, don''t bother with this printer, I wish I hadn''t.

This printer came with the computer system we purchased awhile back. It definitely outperforms the old HP Deskjet 600C we''d been using, printing better quality photos at a better rate. Cartridges are expensive (aren''t they all!)

Why only 3 stars for a decent printer? We have had a few problems with it. We had to try a couple of times before the installation software would let us install the drivers. Right now we''re having a slight problem with the output, as it''s suddenly printing grey splotchy areas in select parts of our photos (yes, we''ve done all the normal troubleshooting steps.) We sent an email to Canon''s service center last night. Aside from an autoresponse email, we have not yet received word from Canon. I''ve contacted HP customer service before and gotten a much quicker response. Honestly, I think the next printer we''ll be going back to an HP because service counts...alot.

I have absolutely loved this printer. It carried me through 3 years of school without constantly running to the computer lab to print drafts of papers. It handles a very high volume well.

I have also found that by ordering off-brand ink tanks I can save a lot of money. Frankly, if you buy the Canon, HP or whatever manufacturer''s ink, you''re really being bilked out of a lot of money.

I''m selling my printer because, like many of you have found out, it is not XP compatible. That''s very clearly stated on the box. A manufacturer has no obligation to provide you with new drivers because you didn''t read the printer information before upgradning your computer. If you''re running an older OS and plan on doing so for a while this is a great little printer. It comes with my highest recommendation!

This printer has given me constant problems. For one, it kept telling me that it was not connected when it was. When I print a test page it prints, but when I print from a Word Document or Photoshop it doesn''t. It also tells me that it is out of ink when I just replaced it recently. The orange light is also constantly blinking telling me that there is a problem. This printer is a pain... Their customer service is something you have to pay for. don''t buy it!

I recently bought this model from my mom who had used it maybe twice. My intention was to use it for papers and occasionally photos, not really caring about the quality, more of durability. However I bought it from her in August and now it is November and kaput! It keeps telling me I need ink, so I go and buy the (...) cartridges and it still says i need ink. Done all troubleshooting and maintence possible, called canon, and they want money (...) to even talk to me. I''m soooo upset. I had heard about Canon''s low quality, and now i know it. Printer lasted a little over a year 6 days to be exact (hmmm funny their warranty is only a year) with minimal to moderate usage and now i just want to throw it my window... I''m gonna go buy an Epson. If you know whats good for you, dont buy a canon!!!

Canon PIXMA MG6220 Wireless Inkjet Photo All-in-One Printer (5292B002) Save 50% off

Canon PIXMA MG6220 Wireless Inkjet Photo All-in-One Printer
  • The Intelligent Touch System allows you to effortlessly operate your machine with gorgeous touch sensitive buttons
  • Six individual ink system featuring gray ink for professional looking black & white photos
  • Full HD Movie Print software turns your favorite HD movie clips captured with your compatible
  • Professional color adjustment feature with the included Easy-PhotoPrint Pro software
  • Built-in CD/DVD Printing
  • Canon EOS Digital SLR or PowerShot cameras into beautiful prints

The MG6200 is a lot of printer (and scanner, and copier...) for the purchase price.

On features and quality, I''d give it 5 stars. The scan and print quality are excellent, and the included applications for scanning/printing are adequate. It can connect via USB, wired network, or wireless network (and I''ve tried all three).

There is no automatic document feeder (ADF), even as an optional accessory, so keep that in mind if you have lots of multi-page documents to scan. Paper handling is great, especially the automatic duplexing.

It also supports Apple Airprint flawlessly, so printing from iPhone and iPad is wireless and quick. I did have to download and upgrade the printer firmware to get this working, but I assume shipping units will come with the updated firmware very soon.

Now, for my big complaint, and why it gets 3 stars instead of 5. If you let this printer set for a day, then initiate a print, it automatically executes a cleaning cycle EVERY TIME. Not only does this process delay printing by a couple minutes (which seems like forever), it wastes a HUGE amount of ink. Like most every inkjet, the ink cartridges are small and expensive -but this printer exacerbates that by wasting ink on unneeded cleaning cycles EVERY DAY. So even though I''ve used the printer VERY lightly over the last 3 weeks, and printed less than 50 pages (and only two photos) total, the ink cartridges are over half empty. That amounts to about $35 worth of ink for 50 pages! At 70 cents per page, this is one expensive printer.

My previous inkjet (Canon Pixma ip5000) only executed a cleaning cycle if it had been powered off, or if you manual requested it. I had to clean it perhaps once or twice per year -not 365 times per year, which is essentially what the MG6220 is doing. At first I thought it might be due to the "auto power off" setting, but I set this to "Never" so the printer would never power itself off (and it is on a UPS, so no power interruptions). Nevertheless, it still executes a cleaning cycle at least once per day and I can hear the sound of a cash register every time it does so. (*** See 11/28/11 update, below ***)

The second gripe is driver support. For WindowsXP, the driver does not properly support network scanning via TWAIN/WIA interfaces. The included Canon scanning software works, but any third party software (like the check scanning service my bank offers) will only work if you plug the MG6220 directly into the USB port. And on Vista, while you can get TWAIN/WIA to function over network, it requires manual installation steps (buried in the user''s manual) that should be automated by Canon''s driver installer. I wish Canon would hire some driver developers from Brother, because the drivers with my Brother MFC-8890DW Laser supported all of this, including network scanning on XP, completely automatically on XP, Vista, and Windows7.

I guess I can forgive the driver issues on XP, because XP is getting pretty long in the tooth and I can accept that Canon doesn''t want to spend the extra software development time. As well, the manual steps on Vista are pretty minor (although many consumers will have a hard time with it). But the effective cost-per-page, due to the daily cleaning cycle (***), will make cost-of-ownership for this printer unaffordable for many.

*** 11/28/11 Update ***

I have printed less than 50 pages (most black and white text), and the printer is complaining that two of the ink cartridges -Cyan and Gray -are almost empty. However, I did find a solution to the daily (or more) ink-wasting cleaning cycles mentioned above.

The automatic cleaning cycle appears to be triggered by either of two things: If the printer itself has lost power (not just turned off, but unplugged / power outage), *OR* if the USB-attached computer has been rebooted or power cycled. After either of those events, the printer will execute a cleaning cycle the next time a print job is sent to it.

I disconnected the USB cable and setup that computer to print via wireless network a few days ago. I haven''t seen the automatic cleaning occur since. Hopefully this will slow the ink usage somewhat.

*** 8/19/12 Update ***

Keeping the printer "powered" and on wireless reduces the cleaning cycles, but does not eliminate them. I have not pinned down the exact pattern, but it seems it throws in a cleaning cycle any time you haven''t printed for a few days, and sometimes just seems to throw one in at random. It is possible these cycles are actually needed for print quality to get rid of partially dried ink on the head -so I can''t fault Canon for doing the cleanings, but they sure do use up the ink! Quality is still excellent, but cost-per-page is pretty high.

I bought this printer from Amazon so I could print from my iPad. Replaced a prefectly good MP 560. This is the fourth Canon printer I have owned over the last few years. I have always liked their printers over other brands because of their quality: printing and mechanical. While this one (MG 6220) prints beautifully, the ink consumption is outrageous. I have printed maybe 20-30 pages so far, mostly black and white. No photo''s. The cyan, magenta and grey tanks are already half empty and the yellow is 1/3 empty. Both blacks still show 100%. Reading other reviews stating the cleaning function is kicked off after the printer is powered down (verified by Canon tech support), I have left it on. It it only WiFi connected. Every time I print, it takes one plus minutes while the printer clunks along, apparently cleaning the heads. That is the other irritating part, waiting so long for one page to print. I talked to Canon Support yesterday for 20 minutes. The support person did sort of admit that this printer cleans it''s heads more often. He said that the printer comes with "complimentary" ink because they know that the setup procedure uses a lot of ink. He gave me the phone number of a local Authorized Service Center so I could take the printer to be checked. But, after reading other reviews, here and on other sites, it appears to me that this printer has an ink consumption problem that Canon needs to address.

Prospective buyers: Note that the dimensions of this printer are incorrect as listed on the Canon website, and these errors get reproduced on other sites. The Canon site seems to have reversed the width and depth. The width of this printer is actually about 18.5 inches, not 15.6 inches, and the depth front-to-back is about 15 inches, not 18.5 inches. This was important for my desk space, and it may help others.

UPDATE: after using this for several weeks, I can state it is an excellent printer in almost every way. HOWEVER, as others have noted, beware the rapid ink usage, which I am comparing vs. three other inkjets I have owned. I have printed a single 4 by 6 photo, and then every other use has been simple plain paper documents on the ink-saving "fast" setting. After a fairly limited number of pages (sorry, I did not keep track, other than to try to not use the printer much -have not refilled the paper tray yet), I am getting low ink warnings on the grey ink, with others soon to follow. According to a Canon rep, the grey ink is apparently used more than black when printing on "fast." So much for conserving ink. Canon suggests using the "grey scale" setting if you want to save Grey ink, which is counterintuitive to me. They also told me that the printer will probably disable all printing if one of the tanks is empty, and there is no way to override this. Disappointing

CONCLUSION: Even though I am a Canon loyalist, based on my experience so far, I would advise against using this as your "routine" printer for everyday usage, as the ink depletion and costs seem frightfully high. Guess it is back to my old cheapo Brother multifunction for most routine printing and copying, and save the Canon for special jobs. I will update as experience lengthens.

Addendum Dec 15, 2011: The low ink warnings come very early and persist for many many printed pages. Yesterday my grey ink finally ran out, which was 8 weeks and about 75 pages after the low ink warning. I was using the above settings to save ink. Anyway, the ink usage is not as awful as I originally thought, but still not very good. Otherwise a fabulous scanner/copier/printer.

Hi all, I don''t have this printer but I do have an IP4820 and an MG6120, both which use the same ink as this. After getting tired of the ink expense I started experimenting with non-OEM ink and have to say that I believe I found a good replacement. I no longer even worry about the expense of what I am printing because the ink is so cheap. Go here 6 Pack US Patent Canon PGI-225 BK CLI-226 BK C M Y GY compatible ink cartridges (With CHIPS Now!) for Canon PIXMA MG8120, MG6120 printers and you can get five (5) sets of all six cartridges for $25 and get free shipping. The color is perfect, the heads don''t clog and they work as well otherwise as the OEM tanks. The only thing they don''t have is the 25-year photo fade warranty. OK, seriously, what are you going to do if a photo fades? Call them and complain? In 25 years are you still going to be able to prove that you used their ink. Ha! Just get these and you won''t look back!

Update: forgot to mention, if you are a Costco member get their Kirkland photo paper. It has a nice pearl white surface and canon printers work well with it, AND it''s the cheapest gross package you can find for quality paper!

I''ve never seen anything quite like it but Canon has purposefully programmed this printer to clean itself (or eject ink into the collection sponge) constantly. When you load up a new paper tray, reboot the computer, reboot or power on the printer, basically any interaction with the computer or printer forces a one minute cleaning cycle. The result? An unbelievable amount of wasted ink. I can confirm what others here are writing, your ink disappears right before your eyes. Must return this printer now!

What can you say about labels? Well, to begin with, I have an ink jet printer, and these were laser labels. oops. I tried them anyway. They were actually better than the ink jet labels because they didn''t smear. I could run my thumb across them right after they exited the printer and not worry about it. And, well, they were sticky. I think that''s pretty much all to be said for them. Good labels from a reliable company.

These labels are compatible with Avery 5160, so when formatting a document in Word, WP or Works, the Avery template can be used. You can also download 3M''s own template via their website. I used the Avery template, and the labels prined out slightly off center. They were placed center in my printer, and looked fine onscreen, but there seems to be more left margin space, so a few characters on the right were cut off.

There are perforations on either side of the center labels which make the sheet of labels more flexible, and therefore easier to remove. These labels appear to be slightly more opaque than the shipping labels I also reviewed, but if you are applying these labels to something other than white envelopes, the underside envelope design shows through. I mention this because I make my own holiday cards and envelopes using very colorful scrapbooking paper. With the white labels over red envelopes, for example, the red shows through. May or may not matter to you; they still look fine to me.

These are a permanent adhesive, so stick carefully cos you''ll only get one chance!

Nice labels! Compatible with Avery 5160 labels, if you use the Avery or other programs that use Avery template #s.

These labels are sturdy, yet are more flexible, and can reposition on paper and other surfaces.

They are marked "laser", yet they work very well with inkjet printers as well.

The flexibility of these labels leads to less jamming than other labels! When you print a LOT of address or other labels, this is incredibly important especially with mailing lists for organizations where a jam could mean a lot of time in finding where the jam occurred, which labels didn''t get printed and then finding this in your program and restarting it from where it left off.

Nicer labels than others I''ve used!

Great for schools, organizations, businesses and others who need to user labels for mailing, medicines, kid''s items, supplies, and so on... Also great for getting organized or labeling things around the house for the little ones to learn to read.

I had no problem running them through my printer and they do have a very strong adhesive. I also used them to label my candle jars and they worked great on glass as well.

The labels work very for me. I found them easy to use, print on and have very good adhesive on the backs.

Note: You need to be careful when you stick the label on something as it will really want to stay stuck, so it is not easy to reposition the label. The material you stick the label on will likely be damaged when you remove the label unless the surface is more substantial than paper.

HP 38 Magenta Pigment Ink Cartridge in Retail Packaging Save 17% off

HP 38 Magenta Pigment Ink Cartridge in Retail Packaging
  • Print brilliant, true-to-life photos and fine-art prints with HP''s new pigment-based Vivera inks
  • Get precision color consistency and vivid, true-to-life hues
  • Produce affordable studio-quality photos
  • Cherish long-lasting color photos that resist fading for more than 200 years
  • Replace only the cartridges that runs out among eight individual colors

Five Stars because the HP 38 Magenta Pigment Ink Cartridge was shipped immediately and arrived promptly in good condition. If you use HP 38 ink in your printer, you must have all eight colors in the HP 38 series for your printer to operate properly, so price is a big consideration. Buying blind can cost you more for a complete set of inks, including more than one cartridge for the light gray and a couple of other colors that are used up faster than the others, than a new printer, and in fact I have heard of people that simply buy a new printer (of a different make) because it''s cheaper than the inks. Amazon has a selection of vendors, but be wary I recently picked the lowest price for each color, mostly from one vendor, and when I went to check out I found that this particular vendor charged $9 per cartridge for shipping and handling, making them the most expensive vendor on Amazon.

I stock up on inks only occasionally. The trigger event is when the warning light on the printer for a particular color comes on, and I don''t have that color ready to change. When that happens, I check out what I do have, flesh out what I need to have a complete set including two of light gray, light cyan, and light magenta, and order them all, usually on Amazon. I like genuine HP inks on Amazon because that''s where the price, Amazon Prime free shipping, vendor reliability, and prompt delivery all come together. I need genuine HP inks because I have this printer for studio-quality color prints and I depend on it for my most-invested hobby, and I don''t have the time or patience to deal with cartridges that require color re-calibration or don''t provide the color fidelity that I expect of an 8-ink printer, or that don''t last as long as HP 38 ink cartridges. One of the reasons that I selected this printer was the combination of quality prints, low cost per print, and long life of the ink cartridges, a rare combination.

I recommend genuine HP 38 inks to anyone with a printer that calls for these inks, and recommend Amazon.com as the first place to check for best price. You can depend on Amazon and their associated vendors to deliver the right product promptly every time.

I haven''t installed the new ink cartridges yet, so I can''t comment on the ink quality. However, it is HP NIB ink and there should be no problem.

What really impressed me was the speed of delivery. I elected free shipping (4-7 day delay). I received the items within 36 hours of placing the order.

Lastly, the amazon.com ink store price was still cheaper than the HP direct 15% "preferred" discount.

Thank you.

This is more a review of AMAZON''s great service than the ink. If you own the HP B9180 then you simply Must use this ink.

3M - Scotch Packaging Tape Dispenser Save 23% off

Scotch Heavy Duty Shipping Packaging Tape, 2 Inch x 800 Inch, ClearI really like this small roll because it fits easily in my small drawer; and it wraps packages very firmly. The dispenser works perfectly once you get the hang of it. You hold it by the rough edges near the cutter and it unrolls easily. When you cut it, don''t apply even pressure, but do so at an angle so the starts at one edge or the other. I only wrap packages now and then so it is perfect for me. If you need to wrap a LOT of packages, Scotch makes larger rolls and you can buy them in sets of 3.

I only wish they sold the small rolls without the dispenser, it feels wasteful to get a new dispenser each time when I could be reusing the same one for several rolls before the cutter began to get dull.

Even though this is just packaging tape its made by scotch which lets you know its a great product and it does perform like it should. Easy amazon prime 2 day free shipping made it worth it to not drive to walmart.

Buy 3M - Scotch Packaging Tape Dispenser Now

Scotch has become one of those generic names used to label all products in a category, in this case tape. To get the real deal delivered to one''s house for a more than reasonable price was quite satisfying.

This generously sized roll of tape is heavy, thick, and sticky. It covers labels with clarity and keeps them stuck. In stores locally I''ve seen other brands of tape being sold for about the same price as I paid for this roll, some even holding less tape.

The only negative, if there is one, is that dispensing this tape is not a quiet process. If you are trying to secretly tape a package with someone in the next room, or maybe even the next house, you may want to try a quieter brand. As for me, I''m very happy with my roll or real Scotch packaging tape. Now I''ll just patiently wait for my next sale on Ebay or Amazon with tape ready for action.

The tape closes and seals smoothly and for the price it cannot be beat.

The quality of the tape is excellent and it cuts cleanly when using the edge cutter. It is also very strong and durable so it keeps packages nice and tight.

I use this product in bulk and it is perfect for getting the job done in many different ways. I use this primarily for my business and it is the only one I use.

My only problem with this product is that when try to get some out, it is INCREDIBLY loud. I do most of my work at night prepping a package for the morning and it disturbs my family. A small issue but a notable one for those nightowls.

Excellent tape 5/5 Purchase!

  • 16 MB memory, upgradeable to 144 MB
  • 250-sheet paper tray, 50-sheet multi-purpose tray
  • USB 2.0 and parallel interfaces; PC and Mac compatible

Setup easy

Basic Operation fast and reasonably quiet, appears to be well built.

Printing text excellent, as good as a much more expensive industrial hp laser printer I frequently use. Nice and dark.

Printing graphics/photos in highest settings (1200dpi, "improved gray scaling" checked) it''s good, but nothing exceptional. The output is not too dark, as is sometimes the problem with other inexpensive lasers.

Manual Duplex printing this was at first confusing to me because I wanted to use the lower paper tray to do it all: print one side and then feed the output back again into the lower tray to print the other side (if you have more than 50 sheets you need to use the lower tray). This did not work for me until I finally hardwired the tray settings from "auto detect" to "tray 1". The manual did not mention this step. New drivers from Brother (as of January 14, 2004) did not fix this. Printing duplex from the multi-purpose tray works fine without having to hardwire the settings.

Customer support so far not good. I went through much trepidation figuring out how to get the lower tray to work on duplex because I could not reach support people. The number always seems to be busy.

Highs good, fast prints and reasonably quiet operation.

Lows documentation is not completely accurate, customer support isn''t good. Could use a sleep mode indicator as the previous reviewer mentioned.

As a die-hard HP fan, (I still have my DeskJet, but my HP laser finally died) I am rather impressed with this printer. Fast and clear output even with lots of graphics on the page. The printer was easy to set up; the drivers and software easy to install and understand.

However, the "save toner" mode is rather useless: it saves so much toner, the page cannot be read unless I adjust the default to print darker which defeats the purpose.

This printer has a "sleep mode" that I''m not terribly fond of: there are no lights to remeind me that my printer is still, technically, "on". I forget to turn off the power, and as a cat owner, my cats step on buttons and turn my printer back on at the most inopportune times.

And I''m one of those users who like to have a printed manual in my hands to look at. The manual for this printer is on CD; which one of these days, I will print out (not in save-toner mode, though).

I have other Brother products, but this is the first Brother printer I''ve purchased. So far, I''m very pleased.

Don''t buy the Brother HL-5050 if you need to print preprinted checks or other preprinted forms. The printer will pick up the ink from the checks or forms and transfer them back onto the form as it prints. Apparently some Brother laser printers get hotter than other brands and this heat causes the ink to transfer back onto the printed document. Some preprinted forms with a lot of text become nearly unreadable after passing through the HL-5050. The printer also curls paper more than my previous HP printers, also apparently due to this "excessive" heat. Sometimes after printing several pages, a slight burning smell comes from the printer (like your central heating system the first time you use it in the winter). I never had this problem with my old HP 4P or HP 6P.

I called Brother tech support and they were of no help whatsoever. They said the ink transfer was not a warranty issue and would not offer an exchange or a refund. They said the printer was working as designed.

The price was good, the features decent, and the speed adequate, but I would not recommend this or any other Brother printer because of this ink transfer/heat problem. We also have the network version of this same printer in another office and it has the same paper curling problem. We don''t use that one for printing checks so I can''t say for sure if it does the ink transfer, but my guess is that it does.

I will never buy another Brother printer. I only wish HP still made a decent quality laser printer for a small office. The HP models I looked at before buying the Brother seemed very cheaply constructed compared to my old HP 6P.

10/06/2004

UPDATE-Found a Solution to the Ink Transfer Problem

If "Media Type" is changed to "Transparencies", the ink transfer does not happen. The paper curling seems to be a little better too. Why didn''t tech support tell me this? Hope this helps any of you with a similar problem.

Want Brother HL-5050 17 PPM 600 dpi Laser Printer Discount?

This is generally not a bad printer however it does tend to overheat paper so that it comes out curly, which is very annoying if you print large documents or want to print high quality.

The support desk said to resolve this by setting the paper type to ''transparency'' for normal paper printing which indicates that this is a typical problem. It also doesnt solve it. Overall Im not very impressed with either printer or support and wouldnt get another Brother printer.

For cost/benefit, I''ve been impressed with all the Brothers I''ve bought, both those for home (5050 B&W Laser and the multifunction 420CN). I also own 2 additional 5050s at my office and have had no problem with them. Suffice it to say that I''ve had precisely the opposite experience with HPs, with major, irreparable breakdowns in within 6 months of warranty expiration on each one. Plus, Brother has a neat philosophy of common sense cartridge replacement if your color HP cartridge runs out, you have to replace the whole thing for $50 or so right then. Brother, on the other hand, allows you to replace individual color cartridges (black, cyan, yellow, red) as they run out, for $10 to $15 apiece. Lots of savings. My Brother B&W lasers were cheaper than equivalent quality competing brands, so I wasn''t expecting much, but they''ve been basically flawless for 2+ years now and exceeded the rating on the toner cartridge by hundreds of pages.

So I decided to help the patchouli puffs out, and go Earth-friendly year round. Somebody has to help Mother Nature while the hippies are off growing their dreads and writing haikus about psychedelic hacky sacks.

If there''s a better way to save the planet than making paper out of elephant poop, I can''t think of it. First, it saves trees. Second, it makes elephant habitats smell a LOT better. Third, there are now people pn the planet whose job it is to collect jumbo Dumbo droppings for making this paper.

Think about that. These people HAD to be virtually unemployable before. If your primary skill is harvesting animal poop for fiber strands, you''re very probably out of work, penniless, and mooching to survive. That''s a huge strain on the planet now alleviated, thanks to this turdball stationery company. Kudos.

As for the product, it has a million and one uses. Need to write a Dear John letter? Poop paper gets the message across. Printing directions for your in-laws? Dung''ll do it, junior. Handing out resumes that employers will say is crap, anyway? Now it''s literally true! They may not hire you -but you made them hold poop.

Can you ask anything more from an Earth-friendly product? The answer is no. No, you cannot.

This is a nice ream of paper, and since I had been trying to get this type of paper for a while with little success, I was glad to find it on Amazon. Though on hindsight, 100 sheets for 30 bucks is a bit too much to pay in my opinion.

Quality: Well it certainly isn''t as smooth as a ream you''ll get at Staples, but then that''s part of the attraction. I found that it has somewhat large particles dispersed in the sheets, making writing a bit jumpy at times as your pen hits those places. The only other thing I noticed was the thickness of each piece is not standard. While one piece may be card stock thickness, another may be nearly see through. So far though, as writing paper, this has not proven to be a problem yet.

Overall, I like the paper. The downsides are minimal, but I probably wouldn''t pay 30 bucks for 1 ream again.
