Cartridge was not delivered in "Retail Packaging". Product description clearly indicates that product includes "Retail Packaging". The illustration shown for the product clearly shows "retail packaging"... meaning the box that the cartridge is sold in. Without the box, it is not possible to determine the expiration date of the cartridge. I have had much grief with Brother printers not accepting old, expired cartridges. This may not seem like a big deal, but it becomes a big deal when you are in the middle of a print job, you run out of ink, and your only remaining replacement cartridge will not work in the Brother printer. I ordered three different cartridge colors at the same time, and received all cartridges in the same shipment. The Cyan and Yellow cartridges were delivered in boxes, as advertised. The Magenta cartridges were delivered without boxes. I note that the Magenta cartridges were sold buy "Andrew''s Genuine Supplies", whereas the other cartridges were sold by Amazon. At the very least, Amazon product descriptions should be corrected to clearly indicate that product IS NOT delivered in Retail Packaging, and illustrations should show the cartridge only, without the retail packaging.

buying ink in this type of cartridge, you''re bound to get screwed on 25% of the ink. w/the cartridge gauze being at the top, you basically have to have a full cartridge to get the correct color. i only bought ink from amazon & it''s not the same. either the printer itself is the problem or it''s the ink. the colors looked correct but the printer is horrible. countless ink checks & tests, it''s constantly running lines through each letter. also, the cartridge is a bit different than the original. it almost doesn''t look like it''s going to fit. i guess you get what you pay for. like the guy at best buy said, don''t buy refills.

Easy to use, love individual cartridges on the Brother MFC-490CW. No problems changing them at all, easy out and easy in. Good print value, mostly use draft mode unless we need better quality to extend the life of the cartridge and save a few bucks

Ilford GALERIE Prestige Gold Fibre Silk 11x17 Inches, 25 Sheet Pack 2001905
  • Traditional Photo fiber base
  • Look and feel of traditional baryta photo paper
  • High quality black and white and color images

This paper makes excellent prints with great color and tonal range. It''s weight and smooth, slightly glossy surface are very similar to traditional quality silver-based photo papers. I use if for exhibition and fine art printing and buyers like the look, too. This paper is quite thick and works best in printers with manual feed. Compared to similar bartya photo papers, this Ilford Gold Fibre Silk is also quite a bit less expensive.

Gowrite Dry Erase Sheets (AS8511)

Gowrite Dry Erase Sheets, 8.5 X 11 Inches, White, 5 Sheets
  • Full adhesive back
  • Create dry erase board anywhere
  • Erases cleanly
  • Recyclable

My son used this sheet in his dorm room. He likes using a white board for math problems. This one worked since he couldn''t hang a traditional board on his dorm wall.

It came off the wall very easily at the end of the school year. Only problem is it may not be re-usable.

Would purchase again for the same purpose.

These sheets are genius. I''ve placed it on the back of a notebook to provide an easily accessible dry erase surface when I''m in a meeting and trying to brainstorm. I''ve made lightweight dry erase boards to put in my briefcase by placing these on mounting boards and trimming to a custom size.

If you''ve read The Back of the Napkin (Expanded Edition): Solving Problems and Selling Ideas with Pictures, these sheets provide a great tool for meetings and presentations.

The actual surface is just as good as any regular dry erase board and can be placed on numerous surfaces. Seriously, I really love this product.

I bought this product to use in my classroom. THe sheets hang on the wall outside my classroom and I use them to let the kids know what is happening that day before they come in. The paper erases well and doesnt leave marks behind. I also like how it had adhesive on the back so they just stick right up. I will plan to buy new ones next year.

Want Gowrite Dry Erase Sheets (AS8511) Discount?

These Gowrite Dry Erase Sheets offer numerous benefits that I really appreciate and enjoy. They are a perfect size, 8.5 x 11, the perfect weight, and they are pliable yet sturdy. If that wasn''t enough--they also have an adhesive backing!

The dry erase board was invented for sharing information in an on-going and changing environment. Whenever I owned a business, and I have owned several, I would have a board in almost every room. Once I even had a massive wall-sized dry erase board mounted in the conference room. For many years, my home office and kitchen have always had dry erase boards mounted on walls, refrigerators and filing cabinets. I cannot seem to get enough of dry erase surfaces.

I am now retired, but my need for erasable writing surfaces has not decreased. In addition to the ever present To Do Lists and Shopping Lists, I still like to play with ideas and concepts. Mental gymnastics, if you will. All this leads to making notes and drawings, which invariably are changed. What begins as one page in a notebook becomes many marked up and scratched out, hard to read pages.

At home, no problem, I could just use my medium and large dry erase boards. But, on a trip or even out-and-about in town, I end up making notes on napkins, take out bags, backs of business cards, you name it. I have sometimes wondered why someone doesn''t come up with a dry erase board that is small and portable. These 8.5 X 11" sheets are The Answer! They are the perfect size and thickness to put in a 3-ring binder (I use a 3-hole punch or put them in plastic sheet protectors.) They are also sturdy enough to put into my computer bag for road trips.

My refrigerator is now filled with these useful and practical sheets. I have learned to keep the magnetic calendars businesses give out so I can cut my dry erase sheets to fit, enabling me to make them magnetic. The sticky backs are quite sticky and always stay attached without any fuss, wrinkles or other potential problems. I move these dry erase sheets around to mix n'' match and organize my thoughts and projects. Now that I have these, I no longer use my larger, more rigid dry erase boards....I am even thinking of giving them to the local Goodwill.

I hope that at some point these small dry erase sheets will come with a magnetic backing. You can buy magnetic dry erase rolls, but they only come in massive amounts.

I give this product 5 stars for its quality, functionality, and convenience. If I could, I would Gowrite an extra star for their ingenuity.

I bought these for my boyfriend in college but since there are 5 in the pack I kept a couple.

They stick well to walls, fridges etc and they leave absolutely no residue.

The actual sheets act like any other dry erase board, and can be written on using any dry erase pen. They are easy to wipe off so long as you are careful to wipe inwards so you wont stain the wall.

They can also be printed to make calendars, for instance.

All in all these sheets are a great solution if you need a dry erase board but you cant/dont want to hang it on the wall. They can be stuck side by side to make a bigger surface to suit your needs.

HP LaserJet 13A (Q2613A) is one of two toners designed for HP LaserJet 1300-series. Although you can get a cheaper toner from 3rd party, doing so may void warranty and may even damage your printer. I can certainly understand the temptation though. The 13A is rated for 2500 pages (at 5% page coverage), which translates to higher than average printing cost.

If you want better value, I suggest HP LaserJet 13X (Q2613X). While it costs about 20% more, it prints 37.5% more (4000 pages).

My last HP cartridge before this purchase, gave me quality printed pages for over a year.

The print gets lighter with each page.

I have to shake it numerous times a day to get a readable printed page.

(Example) I printed two pages this morning.

The first page was excellent, the second page was OK but it has light and dark printing, like the toner is getting low..

Shaking it does help.

Brother HL-2240 Laser Printer

Brother HL-2240 Laser Printer
  • Fast laser printing. Helps improve your productivity with a print speed of up to 24ppm.
  • High-quality output. With a print resolution up to 2400 x 600 dpi, the HL-2240 produces professional output with crisp text and excellent graphics.
  • Stylish, compact design. Features a small footprint that saves valuable workspace.
  • Convenient paper handling. The Brother HL-2240 can meet all of your printing needs via an adjustable 250-sheet capacity paper tray that handles letter or legal size paper and a manual feed slot for printing envelopes and letterhead.
  • Straight-through paper path. A manual feed slot and rear paper exit provide a straight-through paper path to ensure that all of your printed materials always look their best.

I am always curious about the expectations of other consumers who write reviews, so I will try to detail mine. I specifically bought this printer because I travel frequently for work and spend a lot of time working from a hotel room. The size is fairly compact for a laser printer, and having a laser printer was a must since I print a lot of documents when I am on the road (I have gone through inject cartridges within a few days). Price was an issue since things have way of breaking more frequently when you move them around a lot. The cartridges are $70 or so at Office Depot, so don''t buy them there! I have found them here on amazon for around $35 which is more than reasonable. Do yourself a favor and buy a replacement immediately as the cartridge that comes with the unit will run out quicker than expected. The speed and quality of prints is decent, and quite frankly would not have even mentioned it unless other reviewers had mentioned it. For anybody who has never used a laser printer, they have cooling fans and yes the do make some noise, but mine has never run for more than 5 minutes. I have a much older brother at home (it is 10 years old and still works great) that is much noisier and runs for much longer than this model. Quite frankly, I was pleased with how much quieter this model is. One feature that I really like is the auxiliary paper feeder for envelopes or other documents that may require a different paper size than is in the main tray. Ultimately, this is a good unit for the price. I have had it a bit over a month and it has met all of my expectations. If you want and expect a more refined unit, then you may want to consider paying more. Personally, I have no complaints.

Video note:

My video clip shows the Brother HL-2240 printing the full user''s manual, printing 4 document pagers per side of paper, on both sides of paper (via manual duplex). The printer sits in a confined space in a small room, and I find the noise level (printing plus fan noise) more than acceptable.

Review:

As a freelance part-time worker sometimes I need to print documents but my employer doesn''t give me access to their lasers, so when I saw this for sale at staples for 60 I decided to get one. I''ve been very happy with this small-footprint mono laser printer.

The starter toner is rated at 700 pages, but supposedly with the Toner Save mode and printing at 300dpi at text setting, plus shaking the cartridge when toner low comes on, you can stretch the toner life for quite a few more pages. Standard toner is rated at 1,200 pages and costs about 45, with an extended toner available for I think 85 bux but good for 2,600 pages.

The printer supports resolutions of 300 and 600 and 1200 dpi. At the lower two, you can use the Toner Save mode which prints in a lighter shade than normal. The print speed is fast at 300 and 600 dpi (I haven''t tested 1200 dpi, since I don''t want to waste toner), and I don''t find the printer noisy, even though I have sensitive hearing -you can hear the noise level in my video clip.

The printer was a total breeze to setup. It''s small and light-weight. Windows driver is included on an accompanying CD-ROM. (Linux and MacOS drivers can be downloaded.) The driver installed quickly on my Win7 laptop, and Win7 update immediately found an updated version and seamlessly updated the driver. There''re many settings for the driver. I have one tip: adjust the settings to your liking and then save your custom settings via the Print Profiles tab; and be sure to check the "Always show the Print Profiles tab first" checkbox so you can get to your proferred settings quick. You can save up to 7 custom profiles. (I name my custom profiles after the major settings, such as "300dpi text toner save duplex" or "600dpi text 2-in-1 duplex".)

To print duplex, this model requires you to turn the paper over manually. Only the models with a D at the end of their model numbers can do automatic duplex printing, e.g., the HL-2240D. (Models with DW at the end can do auto duplex as well as wireless printing.)

Please note that as with all printers sold at places other than at warehouses like Costco or Sam''s Club, a USB cable is *not* included in the box. It''s the typical A-to-B type of USB cable for printers.

In short, I love the HL-2240. The sale price is just fabulous, and the printer is fast and high-quality and seems durable. Oh, unlike every HP laser I''ve used, it doesn''t appear to jam as much. (It hasn''t jammed at all.)

Read Best Reviews of Brother HL-2240 Laser Printer Here

[2nd UPDATE: I''ve now had this printer for over a year. It''s great. Believe it or not, I *just* finished up the starter cartridge-true, I don''t print that much, but I would say I printed a few hundred pages at least. No regrets at all. This shows really well for Brother.]

[UPDATE: I''ve had the printer now for about three months and it''s exactly what I wanted. Not only that, but I''m using the ink-saver setting and am still on the starter cartridge that came with the printer! As expected, there are now after-market printer ink refill options. People were just being whiney. All in all, I''m very happy with the purchase.]

I too was frustrated to see so few reviews of this product as I was deciding whether to purchase it (there was only one yesterday!). So, here''s my initial review based on having used the printer for less than 24 hours. I''ll adjust if my later experience changes.

First, the basics: the printer fundamentally does what it says it does. It prints laser quality copies off at a remarkable speed (at least for someone used to an inkjet printer). Nobody expects the performance listed on the box, I think, but just to give you an idea I tried printing a 19 page PDF document. It printed in about 90 seconds: 15 seconds to warm up and process, and another 68 seconds to print the document. That comes to something like 17 pgs per minute-not the 34 ppm on the box, but really, who cares?

As per the noise issue: yes, I notice the fan, but it''s not as bad as everyone makes it sound. I don''t really think it makes a difference while I''m printing... afterwards, though, you do kinda wish it would shut off. It''s not a half hour like someone said-it''s more like 5-10 minutes, but maybe still too much. I couldn''t find a way to change the fan settings but it is something that could be fixed in software.

As for the printer refills, yes-it seems there are not yet aftermarket refills. However this is unlikely to stay this way; one place told me to check back in a month. I can wait a month, or pay for one Brother refill.

SO FAR-not a bad purchase for a Black Friday sale, not bad at all.

Want Brother HL-2240 Laser Printer Discount?

I purchased this printer as an additional laser printer. I also own the Brother HL-2140 which is highly rated. I ended up returning this printer and will get another HL-2140. This printer is very noisy. The fan stays on for almost 1/2 hour after the last document is printed. The fan on the HL-2140 would turn off after a minute or two after the last document is printed. The fan can be heard across the room and is too much if you sit near the printer. This printer comes with a toner starter cartridge which only prints 700 pages. The higher model HL-2270DW has a 1200 page toner cartridge. This model also lacks automatic duplex which the HL-2270DW offers. Currently there are no aftermarket companies making toner for this model since it is a newer model. The HL-2140 has several companies making toner that you can get below $20 for 2,000+ page capacity. The toner on this model will run you around $40-$50 for the same capacity. If you are considering purchasing this model, I strongly suggest that you go with the HL-2140 or HL-2170. If you prefer the looks of the HL-2240, then go with the HL-2270DW which has wireless and ethernet connections, larger capacity starter cartridge and automatic duplex.

Pros:

1. Cheap to buy

2. Cheap toner cartridges

3. Good text quality

4. Decent print speed

5. PC and Mac drivers

Negatives:

1. Noisy

2. Toner cartridge is inexpensive because the replacement cartridge doesn''t include a new drum. A replacement drum costs more than the printer. Per the manual, the drum will last 12,000 pages. Assuming you wouldn''t pay more for a drum than for a new printer, that limits the lifespan of the printer to 12,000 pages. At best.

Overall a good value, for a relatively low output small office or home printer.

Epson 8 Color Ink Set with Photo Black for the Stylus R2400 Inkjet Printer.

Epson 8 Color Ink Set with Photo Black for the Stylus R2400 Inkjet Printer.
  • Professional prints with Epson UltraChrome K3 pigment inks
  • Three convenient paper paths support matte
  • Produces 13-Inch x 44-Inch BorderFree panoramic prints with roll paper
  • Supports glossy, luster, matte, fine art, and posterboard
  • Fade-resistant photos lasting up to 200 years

After much research into the Epson R2400 & R1800, I got the 2400. I am absolutely impressed with the quality of pictures! It does a phenominal job. I have two other epson printers, one is the much older 800 which I took to work & am still using. The other is the R200 that I use for general printing & printing on my cd''s & dvd''s. I had a canon 9900 & I90 before. The epson is far superior to the canon. I liked the tech support at canon but I love the epson printers & have never had to use tech support. Yes, the ink is hard to find. It is a high end printer & your ordinary big box stores doesn''t want to mess with it. I order online & save money that way. When I run out of one cartridge, I order 2 to replace it. The printer gives you plenty of warning so you don''t run out. I am an amateur photographer & do lots of scrapbooking. I print all my own pictures with the Epson. It''s not your ordinary printer but I don''t want ordinary pictures. I haven''t been disappointed yet. You just have to make sure you set the print settings for the media you are using.

Buy Epson 8 Color Ink Set with Photo Black for the Stylus R2400 Inkjet Printer. Now

First if you actually own this printer you will know that it can use 9 types of ink, BUT it can only use 8 at a time. So to Mr./Miss one star rating down there.... it only uses 8 inks at a time and you have to switch back and forth from matte/photo ink if you want to print on those two types of paper.

Next Continuous ink systems are just as expensive because in the end the hassle the can and will cause will ultimately cost you the consumer MONEY.

FINALLY choose a "compatible ink" if you want to. You will find that the quality is what you pay for.

If you want QUALITY archival prints, the stick with epson until someone makes something that is not only compatible but BETTER.

I only use these inks with my Epson r2400 and have never had any issues. Buying the set makes $$$$ sense.

Want Epson 8 Color Ink Set with Photo Black for the Stylus R2400 Inkjet Printer. Discount?

These are good quality cartridges as always. They produce very good prints on any type of paper. Will always use them.

Full retail is grossly overpriced. This set is still expensive, but at least it saves a few bucks. It arrived quickly and is real Epson ink. Replacements, in my experience, end up being a lot more costly when they clog the printer and make a mess.

You think oil companies gouge us? Calculate the cost of a gallon of Epson ink. The comparison makes the oil companies look like overly generous philanthropists.

SELF-ADHESIVE STENCIL FILM

SELF-ADHESIVE STENCIL FILMThe product is excellent but the shipping cost was inconscionable.

for a $ 6.95 product that fits into a postal envelope with normal postal charges, I was charged almost $ 12.00 in shipping charges. Needless to say, I am not likely to repeat this stupidity.

Both von Hampeln

This item probably only works best with flat surfaces (not my wall) and only surfaces that do not peel off. You see, I tried to create stencils on a poster board but this material peels the top layer of the board. This product also did not come with instructions or DOs and DON''Ts or where you can use it. I had to look for a specific type of paint for it to work.

However, I''ll recommend this as a cheaper alternative to the Cricut''s vinyl paper.

Canon iP4600 Inkjet Photo Printer (2909B002)

Canon iP4600 Inkjet Photo Printer
  • Photo lab quality borderless 4 by 5 inch photo in approximately 20 seconds
  • ChromaLife100 system delivers vibrant photos that last up to 300 years
  • Maximum 9600 by 2400 dpi with microscopic droplets as small as 1 picoliter using FINE technology
  • "Easy-PhotoPrint EX" software with enhanced "Auto Photo Fix" easily removes red eye

Having sworn off HP and Epson printers years ago because of problems with reliability and service, I decided to give Canon a chance. Based on the mostly stellar reviews of the iP4500, I decided to purchase the slightly cheaper successor model, the iP4600. I was particularly interested in the duplexing option for printing out longer documents, and the high-quality photo output.

The directions for setup were easy, although the entire process took close to 20 minutes, with all the packaging and cartridges, etc.

I''ve used the printer now for nearly two weeks now, and here are my initial impressions:

Photo quality is excellent! I haven''t had an inkjet printer in several years, but this thing blows away anything I''ve had before. If you don''t look too closely, the prints on photo paper could fool me into thinking they came from the store, rather than my own printer. I also tried some off-brand photo paper, which seems to use a different printing preset than the Canon paper, but quality was comparable once I figured this out. Borderless printing seems to work as advertised, although I personally prefer a bit of a border.

Speed is okay. I''ve only printed photos on the included 4x6in photo paper, but it takes less than half a minute per picture, which seems fast. Single-sided printing speed is acceptable -about 15-20 seconds per side of text.

Duplexing is slow -the printer lets the front of the page dry before moving on to the back, and this takes an additional 5-10 seconds per sheet. This nearly doubles the printing time. [As noted in the comments, you can apparently adjust the drying time to reduce this wait.]

Text quality is reasonably good, nowhere near laser-quality, but eminently readable.

While the printer has a relatively large footprint, it is nice that I can load paper into the cassette below the printer (which extends slightly from the front of the printer) or the rear tray, which I prefer for my desk setup.

All in all, I think everything I saw in the reviews of the iP4500 applies here. I am quite satisfied with the printer so far.

I just replaced my 1999 vintage hp 970 Cse inkjet with duplex accessary with this new Canon ip4600 that automatically prints on both sides of the page , and couldn''t be happier. I have grown to appreciate the Canon product line of cameras and now their printers. It is about twice as fast as the old hp 970, but the colors not quite as vibrant until you print out a glossy photo, and again I was impressed with the speed for a 4"x6" glossy print that looks like it was developed at Ritz Camera. The print was done in like 15 seconds!

I use this printer in my office for a lot of color graphs and two sided reports and reprints. The foot print is about right and looks great on my countertop return. I''ll let you know if I can get 7 years out of this one like I did with the old hp. Also Amazon got this to me within 24 hours delivery with no hassles. Good choice and good service.

First the good points of the IP4600; The photo print quality is excellent. The setup is easy. I am pleased with the operation of the printer. On the down-side; The IP4600 DOES NOT print CDs/DVDs even though several retailers (including Amazon) states that it does. Canon Tech Support seemed very surprised that the feature was given in their specifications. I have a problem with some incompatability between the Canon On-Screen Manual software and software installed on my computer. The manual would open once after a boot then fail on subsequent tries. Tech Support has no software fix, but are mailing a hard copy. ON the first print job after power-on the printer goes through several seconds of clicks and hums before it will feed paper and print.

Want Canon iP4600 Inkjet Photo Printer (2909B002) Discount?

Canon have outdone themselves in diservice to their customers here. I have been a loyal fan for some years but after my i860 died I replaced it with the ip4600. I have only had it a couple of weeks and the ink has almost run out. The ink tanks are sooooo small.

I have printed 1 A4 photo and 2 postcards. The color tanks are 60% empty. I am an occasional user turning the machine on and off when I need a print, mostly for text. All the noises that it makes on startup I can only presume are cleaning routines for the print heads. So even if you don''t print much you will be replacing the ink soon. As the ink replacements are half the cost of the printer I have no doubt that this model will be stoking the landfills in abundance.

Good print quality.

MEAN, shame on Canon.

Easy setup and good quality printer. Only compaint I have is Canon is selling these printers at a good price but has pretty much gone off the

deep end on ink cartridge prices. The new cartridges are smaller than

previous models and at this time there are no compatable cartridges available for this printer. $65 for a set of cartridges is ridiculous!

Should have bought a previos model with old style cartidges.

I tend to use large areas of color in many of my card projects and I love the rich colors that I am able to show off with these cards. Years ago, 3M was producing some of the best card stock for greeting cards. Their top-of-the-line stock was coated and it gave great results. After 3M left the printing materials market, it was impossible to find coated stock due to environmental concerns. I am so glad paper manufacturers were able to resolve any issues with the coating material. Cards were easy to use, after alignment was set properly. Images were crisp and sharp on finished product. When separated there were no ragged edges. Love them and would recommend them for homemade cards that look professionally made.

I bought this product because it was the only note-card stationary I would get overnight with prime.

I was dismayed to find the paper was much thinner than expected and that it came in perforated sheets. The perforations and thickness of the paper make a less than impressive stationary.

Pros: Good for do-it-yourself cards. Ideal for printing out multiple cards at once. Includes envelops

Cons: A bit ''cheap'' for important Thanks Yous, Invitations. The heavyweight in the description is false advertising. It''s medium-weight at best.

I''ve tested many ink jet cards since I make and sell my own greeting cards.

Avery used to have a great product almost ten years agoa print to the edge glossy greeting card. Loved them, but for some reason they discontinued it.

I wanted to try these but was disappointed to learn, after I bought them at Staples, that they are not a typical card stock weight, but more like perforated paper. Also, because they''re perforated it does leave a rough edge after you separate the cards. It would be nice if they could make these with the same non-perforated edges used for their clean edge business cards (which I love.)

If you want note cards for personal use and you don''t mind the less than "real" card quality, these will probably work for you. If you want a professional presentation of your art or photography I recommend going with a heavier card stock that doesn''t have perforated edges.

I bought these note cards for my mother so she could make baby shower invites for me. They ended up technically beyond her level (not because it''s at all hard, there are templates and everything, but because her technical level pretty much extends to freecell and e-mail) so I made the invites. They turned out great I used a template in Publisher (because I''m familiar with publisher) but I believe you can get them in word and probably google documents too. Printed really well and went out in the mail.

As you''ve probably seen, the original Fujitsu ScanSnap S1300 Scanner (PA03603-B005) has received great reviews here on Amazon. So what''s this S1300i (notice the "i") all about?

What''s New?

Basically, it''s just faster, up to 1.5x faster (up to 12 double-sided color pages per minute) than the original S1300 model. Everything else seems to be the same. Fujitsu boasts some new software features, but from what I understand, these features are also available to the original S1300 through a software update:

Scan to mobile: you still need to have your ScanSnap connected to your computer and your computer powered on, but you can easily transfer scans to your iOS or Android device over WiFi

Scan to DropBox: Technically, you could do this before since you could just set your destination folder to your DropBox folder, but now DropBox is directly supported

ScanSnap Folder (PC-only): This sets up a temporary folder that allows you to then quickly attach a scan to a program that is not directly support. For example, if you wanted to e-mail a receipt through G-Mail''s web interface, you would scan it to the ScanSnap Folder, then attach it from G-Mail''s website. The folder automatically deletes the document after a configurable number of days.

PROs

+ This thing can handle pretty much everything I throw at it: receipts, forms, photos, even old greeting cards. Some things you can''t scan include anything with whiteout or a sticky substance on it since it can get caught in the rollers or smear up the scanning glass (although, these things can be cleaned). Even though a document feeds in crooked, the software does a great job correcting the slant in most cases.

+ You can power it with two USB ports, although scanning is a bit slower compared to when it is powered by the AC adapter.

+ Scanning directly to Evernote is awesome: just select Evernote from the Quick Menu that displays after the scan and your document appears in the Evernote application instantly

+ It works with Macs and Windows and includes software for both (there are some differences, such as ScanSnap''s Organizer program which is PC-only)

+ Paper jams are easy to clear by just opening up the front flap

+ Front and back scanning in one pass is amazing! The software can intelligently distinguish if a document is one-sided and then removes the blank pages from your scan

+ This thing is sturdy! I wasn''t expecting it to be as heavy as it is, which is a good thing. When folded up, this thing is a solid brick.

CONs

OCR (converting the document into usable text) can take a while to process after scanning (my multifunction printer/scanner seems to handle OCR a lot quicker, albeit less accurately than the ScanSnap)

It can''t handle a huge stack of documents (maybe about 10-15 pages), but it''s fairly easy to "sneak" a few pages in at the end while it''s running. UPDATE: Thanks to Andrei in the comments for pointing out that the software can be configured to prompt you if you want to add additional scans to the current document.

Overall, if you''re looking to go paperless in your home or office, you can''t go wrong with the ScanSnap 1300i!

Ok, so my title is a bit emphatic...but it''s true.

If you are looking for a scanner that is fast, easy to set up, reliable and comes with a lot of options for output then the 1300i is what you are looking for.

I use to own a Neat scanner and nothing against them, but the 1300i is so much faster and easier, plus it comes with much better output options. I like that I can output to Evernote or to Word or Excel and it really is super fast. The OCR software works as advertised and the set up was super easy.

My only "complaint" is the feeder only holds as small amount of sheets but then again it isn''t advertised as having a huge sheet feeder.

I really like this scanner and while it''s not as cheap as a flatbed scanner it is far more useful (especially since it does both sides of the paper).

As you can tell I am completely sold on the 1300i, so much so that it got me to write my first product review on Amazon after buying products here for years!

This product is amazing and handy and light and... I cannot say enough good things about it. I am in the process of scanning in our photographs from years ago, and the choices for compression and colors, etc is amazing. The files can be as big or as small as you like. And, you can create profiles for each different scanning type you wish to perform.

Works great for scanning directly to Evernote, too. We are moving to being a paperless (or reduced!) household. Get this! And I don''t think you need to spend the cash on the 1500. IMO.

I bought the Fujitsu S1300i ScanSnap Scanner after doing research and reading the reviews on Amazon. I specifically needed to scan product/price lists into Excel to make pivot tables for my business. I had tried the free demo version of Abbyy FineReader on my slow flatbed scanner, and it worked perfectly. Since Fujitsu''s advertising says that with the included Abbyy FineReader software, you can "scan to Excel" this purchase seemed like an ideal solution.

The scanner itself works fine, if all you want to do is convert paper to PDF files. The paper-straightening function is especially good for small items. But, the software Fujitsu provides is pitiful! Once the sheets are scanned, and the ScanSnap does so quickly, it takes anywhere from 30 to 90 seconds to process. Then you must go through a laborious multi-step procedure to declare where to save the file. No pre-sets to send it directly to where you want. So while scanning itself is smooth and effortless, the software slows the process down to a crawl.

The business card software has a "database" that is limited to the person''s name, business name, e-mail, phone and fax numbers. No way to add useless information like an address. Have fun transferring it to Outlook!

With regard to my original application, Fujitsu''s claim that you can scan to Excel is not only misleading, it borders on being fraudulent. Yes, you can scan into an Excel file. But the results are useless garbage. From a six-column product sheet that is already formatted as a table, the first two columns appear in Excel correctly, the second two are placed below the first two and they appear one below the other with extra rows inserted between them. The last two columns appear below the others. Multiple pages appear in this same format. Scanned into Word, the information appears lovely, but it cutting and pasting it into Excel yields the same results. Ditto for cutting and pasting from a .pdf file. Even if cutting and pasting worked, I bought the scanner to save time, not to expend more.

Surely there must be some setting that will make this right! I called Abbyy. They were pleasant but told me that they had sold the software to Fujitsu and did not support it. Any software Abbyy supports requires a scanner with TWAIN driver. If I needed help, I would need to speak to the folks at Fujitsu. The agent at Fujitsu seemed bored by my problem. He suggested I try changing the one and only setting that the ScanSnap version of FineReader allows. (Duh! I had already tried this with no success.) There is no ability to choose areas of the document to scan, as there is with even the demo version of FineReader. It''s impossible to get the results I need from this software. Well, I''d have to spend the extra money and buy FineReader from Abbyy and connect it to the scanner with a TWAIN driver. Fujitsu informed me that NONE of their ScanSnap line has TWAIN drivers. If I wanted a scanner with TWAIN driver from them, I could take my pick from another line of $600-$1200 scanners.

So, dear reader, if you are considering buying any ScanSnap scanner, be warned. Their scanners work ONLY with the proprietary driver and software that Fujitsu supplies. Their advertising uses the names of other software companies, but the Fujitsu version is stripped down to osteoporosis-eroded bones. And once Fujitsu has your money, they could care less whether their product meets your needs or not!

I am using the Fujitsu S1300i on a Macintosh. S1300i was easy to set up and comes with cords of a reasonable length. It does a reasonable job of accepting papers and receipts and the holding tray resizes reasonably well. It sometimes struggles to grab receipts well if they have an uneven bottom and receipts sometimes need to be tended as they are grabbed by the machine, but aside from not having more than one roller-grabber (a flaw in my eyes) I''m not sure what could have helped much with this. It scans quickly and has good quality based on the file size/readability tradeoff you have in mind. OCR also works great. For the most part I am satisfied with the performance of this unit (though I do think there is room in the market for something magnificent--something which doesn''t yet exist).

I am fairly disappointed with the software, though none of the flaws are so terrible that I regret my purchase. If I used this product extensively on a day-to-day basis this would bother me much more. For example, there are multiple scan-to options and I haven''t found an option to streamline this process by defaulting to one (which would be nice if you''ve hired it for one task). If a scan works out poorly there''s no immediate cancel/delete option that I have seen. There''s no way to easily accept input and store to a file after scanning that I have discovered. The best I have managed is to tab from a focus on file naming options and hit enter to store the scanned document. A keyboard shortcut or a simple return would have been preferable. In general, the interface works to accomplish everything but rarely goes the extra mile to make a feature particularly easy or streamlined to work with. As another example of this, you can create your own file-name formats, but they do not honor the automatic date symbols used by the default options. I do appreciate that it does not try to force some proprietary file-management system on me.

All said, I would consider this product to be adequate to good and, after experimenting with and researching some competing devices, that leaves this product among the highest tier of document scanners available anywhere near this price range. If you''re looking for this sort of product I would be happy to recommend it. If someone comes along and creates the high-quality document scanner which focuses on good customer experience and quality from top to bottom it could easily land well ahead of this product in terms of quality and workflow.

Pros

Decent construction quality and reasonable cord lengths.

Fast and dependable for letter-sized documents.

Usually does a good job in rotating, balancing, and reorienting scanned documents.

Works well with managing your own files into directories.

Good in a market where no competing devices are great.

Cons

When feeding receipts sometimes the papers need to be guided a little for proper feeding.

Two grabber-rollers would have resulted in less paper tugged in at an angle.

Software interface is good enough, but never goes the extra mile.

Storing documents requires more steps than it should.

If you''re looking for a fax for your home office and don''t want to spend a fortune, this is the fax for you. It is simple to set up, uses plain copy paper and takes up little space. The only down side is, it wasn''t compatible with our voicemail system and we can''t use the auto answer mode. Since we mostly use this for outgoing faxes, we''re fine. We just have to manually switch it over to fax mode to receive. If you need the auto answer, check the specs carefully before you buy this one.

I had a earlier model so I thought when it was time to get a new one I would purchase another Brother. I bought this one for our home office because it said it had 10 page faxing ability. The print quality is the same as the previous model, which is low, but standard for fax machines. The trouble is, if you want to fax multiple pages, the machine jams. You need to stand there, when it is faxing, to make sure the paper is feeding straight. I have found it impossible to fax more than 3 pages at one time and even with this the paper jams.

I have only used this fax for about 2 months and it does a terrible job sending. I don''t fax a lot, maybe 2-10 pages per day. It always jams and has trouble feeding my faxes through, irritating!!

Mine was working fine until I had to replace the carbon film the first time. Then the 1-year old unit simply quitted working. Normally I am quite good at figuring out mechanical problems by myself. Not this one.

Then I found out there are unlimited supply of Remanufactured Brother 1270E fax machines. How could so many units need to be repaired?

I am a non-Japanese Asian who likes Japanese quality stuff. This model ruins my confidence in Japanese product.
