200 Half Sheet Shipping Labels for Laser/InkJet 5-1/2'' x 8-1/2''
  • Label Dimensions 8.5x5.5
  • 1 Label Across / Two labels per sheet

Excellent labels. Using on an ink jet printer. Be careful when applying they stick very well and when peeling the wrong way can tear. Order 400 of them and would order again! Saves a lot of money.

It works good on boxes and bubble mailers that don''t have any writing or printing on them. If you need to completely hide what is beneath the label, I recommend the Avery 5126 Labels with TrueBlock. I believe the smearing problem one person complained about is a Pixma printer problem rather than a label problem. My father used to have a Pixma printer too and it wouldn''t print on smaller labels either without smearing the print.

A pain in the you know what to use, will use these up, never reorder because their natural position seems to be in a roll, not lying flat in the printer tray.

So I bought these because the other economy labels I had purchased from another seller curled so badly that I had to manually feed them into my printer. This product sold me on the guarantee that it will NOT curl. Uh yes it does. I have uploaded photographic proof that this product does in fact curl. I am disappointed. It causes constant jams in my printer.

I''d like to add that I looked at my invoice and it shows that the seller was FANTASYBUY, while the original item listed is sold as House Labels. Why Amazon picked that seller to ship from I have no idea, but apparently you have to specifically select House Labels as your retailer when checking out to supposedly get the "guaranteed" labels. I just clicked add my item to cart and I assumed I was getting my product from the person this product was listed from in the original title. This is a feature that sorely needs to get fixed.

I was rather excited to try these labels out for the price. Sadly, I bought 200 sheets. I have a Canon Pixma MP460 that I use to print off my shipping labels on Amazon and through PayPal. The labels come out smeared or spotty. I would not recommend this product. In the past, I used the 3M 3200-V shipping labels and those worked MUCH better.

I love black and white output. I spent a large fraction of my professional programming life writing a well known chemical drawing app, and that is all about clean, crisp text, smooth lines, and every pixel in its place. And for that kind of output, this laser printer is a bargain. There is just no contest between laser and ink jet when it comes to pure black and white output. Where an ink jet will give you blurs and sudden dislocations, this printer gives me sharp contrast and straight, mathematically pure lines. It''s really quite lovely.

I particularly like the clever design of having the output bin deeply embedded in the center of the device, as I''ve had problems with other printers dropping their output all over the floor. Much less likely here.

Startup time is quick for a laser. Printing a sample page from my MacBook Pro over the network took about 15 seconds from pressing the print button to the sheet popping out. For someone used to the office laser printer taking a couple minutes to warm up, that''s just fantastic. Be sure to use proper laser paper with this device, at first my wife and I had been using the flimsy ink jet paper from our old printer, but that had a tendency to bring along extra blank pages. Sturdier paper designed for laser not only eliminates this problem, but feels great in the hand and looks great.

The built in scanner does a serviceable job, either doing color scans for my computers over the network--I use my Mac''s built in Scanner Utility, or Picasa on my wife''s Windows 7 PC--or directly making greyscale copies at high resolution. I don''t have a chance to try out the FAX feature, as I don''t have a home phone line. A 300 DPI black and white scan took 14 seconds over my Gigabit network switch which is pretty good.

In general, I disagree with the need for the Wi-Fi model. Stationary, desk bound devices should be connected via Ethernet barring an unusual circumstance. Wi-Fi can be finicky, something rarely true of Ethernet. I have green gigabit Ethernet switches in several locations in my home, and they have been reliable and left Wi-Fi bandwidth for mobile devices.

As for the bad, I wasn''t able to automatically connect to the printer from my Linux (Ubuntu) server as it couldn''t find a proper driver. It doesn''t support AirPrint for use with iOS devices. Oh for the day when being a laser printer meant having a Postscript interpreter, but alas, this just supports PCL6 and Samsung''s own SPL, so much for hand coding my own EPS.

[Update: A commenter pointed out the availability of the Samsung Mobile Print App in the Apple App Store. This can print and scan from this printer easily. I was able to print a Google Docs document, and a web page, and their are a variety of of other document sources such as the photo library, camera, clipboard, etc. I did experience a low memory warning after a few minutes of trying it out, so there are bugs. Still seems a good added benefit, although AirPrint support would be better.]

In general, I''m happy to now have a laser printer in the house. My wife''s home business generates a lot of paper, and ink jet cartridge costs were adding up. At 2500 sheets per toner cartridge, our cost per page just plummeted. I''ve looked many times in the past at buying a laser printer, but either the user reviews were horrid or the price was out of my range, so I''m glad the low end is now so good.

[Update: Assuming I''m reading the status page printout correctly, the toner cartridge that shipped in the box lasted 430 pages. Some of the mileage was my kids doing mostly black copies of their hands and toys, so this might be a non-representitive number. I''ve replaced it with the high capacity cartridge you can get from an Amazon merchant in the $72 range. I hope I get the promised 2500 pages.

I was unable to print from my 10.8.2 running MacBook Pro, and the operating system couldn''t find an appropriate driver for this printer nor does installing the driver from Samsung''s website help. Printing from Windows still worked. Finally, I tried restarting the Mac and it started to work.

What do you get in the box?

Printer, Power cord, phone cord, software CD, keypad decal, instruction/setup guide.

What should have been in the box?

All that plus an ethernet cable. Why? Because they cost next to nothing.

The Samsung SCX-4729FD is a multi-function black and white laser printer that connects to your network via USB-computer, or Ethernet. There is a wireless model of this printer also available from Samsung.

Installation is easy. Remove about 8 pieces of tape, two pieces of styro, foam on the scanner plate, a plastic clip on the toner cartridge, plus a long plastic strip also on the toner cartridge. After that it''s a snap to insert paper (it handles a4/a5/lgl/letter/etc.), plug it in and get going. Windows 7 found the printer immediately and installed basic drivers, but if you want to do more then install the Samsung software. This was actually the slowest part of the whole process software installation.

You can optionally have a toolbar for the printer that offers one click access to the major functions of printing/scanning/faxing/copying. I chose to remove that because if I want to use the printer I''ll open the software myself.

The device goes into, and nicely stays in a standby mode. It powers up when you need it, otherwise it has a soft blue light on the power button to let you know it''s ready when you are.

Printing is fast and very high quality in black and white. Reproduction of shades of grey is as expected, with crisp lines and borders. Scanning is good. Optically you can scan 1200dpi or move up to 4800 enhanced mode. Everything I need to scan is usually 300dpi or less which it does very quickly with a nice preview and auto-cropping software. It can immediately save the file as an image or load it into your default app.

Scanning/faxing/copying can be done by placing paper on the glass, or by folding out the paper feeder on top. This is pretty typical in most office devices.

Finally, double sided printing is a nice feature. My last printer could do it but you had to flip the paper around yourself. This printer takes care of that for you by sending the paper into the exit tray then pulling it back in to print on the second side.

Overall I''m giving this 4 of 5 stars. Here''s what influenced the stars for me.

Quiet printer and great eco/power-savings functions. Fast printing at high quality. Small paper tray does not hold a full package of paper (convenience). Lack of included ethernet cable (also convenience). Too much software that all does similar functions (there are two programs that both do scanning).

UPDATE: I decided to go ahead and put it on the network and with the included software I can now scan and print across the network. Very easy to do just plug and play, or if you want to customize (like giving it a static IP address on your home network) you can easily do that within the management software. Now the only thing I haven''t done with it is fax and for that I''ve got to find a phone jack somewhere close ;-).

This machine is light-years ahead of what could have been purchased for this price even a few years ago.

While it may be a little too bulky for desktop use, Samsung has packed functionality into every cubic inch. It does what it claims to do, and does it pretty well. The monochromatic print quality, and double sided print feature are just as good, although not nearly as fast, as some of the much costlier industrial machines. The scanner quality is, even at the highest resolution, about on par with a lower end, middle-of-the-road scanner. The same is true of the copier quality (I would recommend reducing the factory default darkness to -3 or -4). Unfortunately, I have not utilized the fax feature.

I did not connect this device to a network, just my personal computer. In attempting to set up the machine, I was disappointed to discover that the necessary USB cable was not included. Luckily I was able to find a spare lying around the office. Now that I am all set up, I would have to recommend to others that the wireless version (Samsung SCX-4729FW/XAA Wireless Monochrome Printer with Scanner, Copier & Fax) would probably be much more convenient. I also wish that the power cord were about a foot longer, but that is probably a preference unique to the setup of my office.

Without the Eco function enabled, which is helpful for fairly consistent use, the machine does take a little while to warm up; which can be a little frustrating in a hurry. However, that can be more or less solved by choosing the Eco feature. The scanner is also a little sluggish; particularly at its highest resolution (which is only marginally better than the intermediate resolution), but still not terrible.

This might not seem like a glowing review, but it is in a way. Yes, the machine is not the highest quality, and is certainly not suitable for industrial or multi-person, all day utilization. For the price, however, this machine is a great answer to many small office needs. Again, if your needs outweigh the relative functionality of the machine, the value is meaningless, but for intermittent need to get done tasks, this machine is a cost efficient little workhorse.

It is better than just okay. If I could give it 3.5 stars, I would. It would probably have garnered 4 stars if not for the USB frustration.

Want Samsung SCX-4729FD/XAA Monochrome Printer Discount?

Every since I left my last office, I have struggled along on inkjet printers. They are nice, but more expensive for the ink per page, and 95% of my printing is Black. I print letters, I print sermons, I print words! This 1200 DPI printer, which whips out copies at 29 per minute, is an awesome addition to my office.

The paper feeder holds 250 pages, so is a very nice size if you print a great deal. The drawer can be adjusted for varying sizes of paper.

The only thing I would change is to make it wifi, but even that is available for hardcore wifi users at Samsung SCX-4729FW/XAA Wireless Monochrome Printer with Scanner, Copier & Fax.

This particular model can be set up as a part of your Ethernet system or hooked directly to your computer using a USB cord. For simplicity, since I do a majority of my printing from my laptop, I have it set up in my office and hooked in using the USB cord.

I have been impressed by the copying, both the quality and speed, as well as by the printing. Scanning, using their software is incredible and fast, and can be saved as either PDF or JPG as well as bitmap. The software for the scanning is very easy to use and automatically crops as well as allowing optional cropping. The feeder works very well, and the double sided printing is intuitive and easy.

There is an eco mode which saves toner and forces double sided printing, however I am not currently using it. I wasn''t as happy with the copies and I prefer to decide whether to print single or double sided. I will also not be using the fax feature, since I can simply scan and e-mail the documents (or put them in a drop box) that I need to send. This seems to be the trend today, fewer faxes are being used. Still, if you need one, this one will fill the bill.

If you have multiple computers, it might be worthwhile to purchase the wifi enabled version, but for normal single computer use, this is sleek, with a smaller sized footprint, was light enough for me to easily move around, and really does the job quickly and easily.

Obviously, I can only speak for short-term on this model, but I come back and post later if I encounter difficulties.

I print a lot of copies for my writing and research work. I was using a basic laser printer, very cheap toner and so very user friendly to me. But it didn''t have a lot of flexibility. I had to use another printer for scanning and copying, and have been looking for something to do double sided printing, so as to save paper.

This printer fit the bill perfectly. It was easy to set up and easy to use. This model doesn''t have the wireless access of other models, but I didn''t need that. It can be networked, however, so that is enough for me.

It has a pretty small footprint for its capabilities. Everything is tightly packaged and engineered so that there''s no wasted space. It is very functional and works great in all of its capacities that I used it for. It was my go to printer, the one that I used the most (I have about 4 other printers each with their own speciality). This is an all around workhorse--not the best at any particular job, but competent at a lot. I even was able--in this day and age--to use the fax feature. Had to fax a form to our insurance company. Plugged it into the phone line, dialed the number, everything worked quickly, smoothly with absolutely no bumps. This printer really is just plain easy to use.

My one complaint about the printer itself is that it''s really surgey. Meaning that when it turns on, it really draws in a lot of power. I couldn''t plug it into my UPS because of that. It kept tripping the power circuit. We have an old house and my office is an old add-on room off the side. So the wiring isn''t the best. When I turn this printer on, it has a tendency to trip the circuit breaker at times, and otherwise affect other things that are plugged in. I''ve not had that problem with other printers or devices.

Still, the bother was worth it to me. I liked this printer a lot. Note my use of the past tense.

The trouble I am now running into is not really one connected to the printer itself. But it radically affects my use of the printer. I am a PhD student and adjunct professor. My home office budget, thus, is pretty bare bones. While I need functional equipment, I can''t pay the frankly outrageous prices charged for the manufacturer''s stock toner. I''ve long relied on other manufacturers who make generic brand toners and cartridges for my printeres. So, when after printing about 1200+ pages the toner that this printer came with needed to be replaced and I looked on Amazon for generic substitutes. Found one, got it, installed it. The printer didn''t recognize it. Called the company (Inkers). They were great, said I had the right model of cartridge, so they sent me another one. That one didn''t work either (got refund quick by the company). Tried another brand. Also didn''t work. Cartridge fit, but the chip wasn''t right. Tried a refill company. The replacement chip they sent also didn''t work.

Meaning I can''t find a cheaper generic toner for this printer and I can''t quite get to paying the full toner price. So, for now, this printer sits unplugged and unused.

Be careful that you get what you order. I ordered a Canon E20 cartridge from Amazon.com but ordered it from ANTOnline rather than Amazon (who didn''t have it in stock). I was careful to read the description that I was ordering a Canon-brand cartridge and not a 3rd-party replacement. ANTOnline shipped an inferior replacement-brand cartridge. ANTOnline did not respond when I contacted them. Amazon.com originally denied my claim that ANTOnline shipped the wrong item. I appealed by telephone and Amazon refunded my money.

  • Automatic 2-sided printing; 1-year onsite warranty

I can''t say what occurred with the previous reviewer. My guess

is he was referring to the 2200 (a much slower color printer)

or was driving the 3100 via a parallel cable.

I got the printer today and have printed just about everything

in sight, including 8.5x11 inch pictures (1536x2048x16 million

color digital camera images) in regular and fine quality mode.

Certainly it takes the printer longer to print these images,

but thats 15 seconds verses instantaineous. Note that I use

a 100bps ethernet to drive it.

The image quality looks great to me. I picked this printer

because if you add duplexing and a 500 sheet tray to their

lower end printer(the 2200), both options I need, you get

approximately the same total price as well as a printer that

is MUCH slower in color, has a fraction of the CPU speed and

does not do Postscript 3.

The 3100 DN is a win, and gives both a better price and smaller

size than the equivalent HP printer. The other printers in this

class all seemed to have 500 sheets, duplexing or networking

as various options.

Again I would ask the first reviewer to check if he has the

right printer and retract that if not. This printer does not

deserve that writeup at all.

1/2003 postscript:

Have been using this printer for 2 weeks now. This printer has

several features that are apparent only after examining the

unit, and deserve mention. First, it is very quick to come

online from a full energy save mode, about 1 minute. Second,

you can get full status on the printer by accessing the

built in web server (mentioned nowhere I could find in the

documentation), which gives an amazing number of statistics

on the printer, including bar graphs telling you how much

toner remains in each of the colors, how much life (in pages)

are left on each printer component, etc.

Finally, each of the parts that wear out in the printer, the

toner, transfer unit, imaging unit, fuser and feed roller are

user servicable units that can be simply unlatched and

replaced.

The local store discontinued this unit, but is still selling

a certain major brand name printer that is both more expensive

(if you include the same options), larger and, IMHO, uglier

than this printer.

Buy Konica Minolta magicolor 3100 Color Laser Printer Now

After 3 weeks with helpful Minolta tech support staff I have discovered that it is normal and OK for this printer to take 12 minutes to print one 8'' x 8'' regular photograph at 300 dpi at the printer''s lowest resolution. That is way too long to be practical in a business environment. I regret the purchase.

  • Optical_Resolution - 600 dpi
  • Green_Compliant - Yes
  • Green_Compliance_Certificate/authority - Energy Star
  • Hard_Drive_Capacity - 80 GB

This machine is lightning fast, makes great copies, and the interface is so simple even a corporate executive with an MBA could understand it.

The page feeder is the fastest I''ve seen, and never jams or pulls two pages at once like my old copier used to do. When you need to fax something that''s 30 to 50 pages, speed is key. I also like the easy use of the user interface on this machine. You don''t need an instruction manual to do anything from multi-recipient faxes to setting up the phone book and speed dial.

Here is my only problem with this machine. Lift the lid to scan a single page, and--BAM!--you''re blind. The scanner light is always on, and is visible immediately when you lift the lid. And of course when you''re lifting the lid, you''re looking right at it. It hides itself in a second, but by that time you''re rolling on the floor in agony and trying to fit your head under the water cooler spout to soothe the burning pain in your retinas.

I''m sure in time I will learn to look away when I lift the lid. But so far it''s got me at least 30 times. What kind of sadistic sociopath designs a product to work like this?

Buy Samsung SCX5935FN - Multifunction Printer Now

Unit works great. Toner is inexpensive. Sadly the models that replace this unit don''t have cheap toner. No complaints so far with unit. Only bad thing about Samsung is that they have a limited local network of dealers in most states (I checked before purchase).

I''ve bought five of the Samsung SCX5935FN over the past year using them in three small offices used by many different people for basic printing and duplex copying. I read that this Samsung is actually a rebranded Xerox, and it does look identical to the Xerox. You just can''t beat Xerox for quality.

The SCX5935FN is easy to set up, easy to use, makes great copies, and is pretty much trouble free. Paper jams are infrequent, and easy to correct. Toner yield is pretty good, and the darkness/density setting can be set lower to improve cost efficiency if desired. Compatible toner cartridges are available on Amazon to greatly reduce toner cost...but quality may vary. We mostly buy the original Samsung cartridges because they are trouble free compared to many compatibles.

Bottom line: I highly recommend the SCX5935FN to anyone needing a basic black and white printer/fax/copier.

For me, the SCX-5935 printer replaced a Xerox 4150 (which died after less than 2 yrs service). While I have had some issues with Samsung quality in the past, this unit seems to be doing as advertised, so far (2 months). It''s so nice to have a quiet printer in my home office. My only complaint is the text print image seems to be too gray, not nice and black. Maybe I just need to fiddle with other papers or maybe get a better/different type of toner powder.

The cards are flimsy, not thick paper and have a poor print surface. Almost like printing on plain paper.

The envelopes are thin, pretty much bottom of the barrel.

Software (a ''trial version'') only works on PC, MAC users need not apply.

You get a fancy package with cheap product inside Hallmark has a lot of nerve calling this ''Premium Blank'' and ''High Quality'', unless they are describing the box it comes in.

In this video, I cover the following points:

1) A quick comparison with the Epson GT-S50 and Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 scanners which we also tried.

2) Setup of the fi-6130z scanner

3) External features and form factor of the scanner

4) Using the scanner software to scan items of multiple thicknesses & sizes

Overall, for people who don''t want to watch the video, this scanner has been working exceptionally well for us. The software is a bit retro; but, once you figure it out, it isn''t hard to use and it offers a lot of functionality.

Here are the things we like:

1) It has a very small form factor that fits great on the desk

2) It supports both TWAIN and ISIS interfaces!

3) It easily handles items of multiple sizes and thicknesses and it takes care of rotating and cropping automatically

4) The OCR feature works very well

5) It can scan barcodes and then use those codes in its batch processing which makes it easy to separate scan jobs, rename files, etc...

6) It''s fast and accurate

7) The support is excellent we spent hours on the phone with Fujitsu to make the barcode scanner work the way we want, and they didn''t complain at all. One of their engineers was finally able to resolve the issue.

As I already mentioned, the install process and software in general aren''t really the easiest to use but they aren''t horrible either. Just be prepared to have a bit of patience at first.

I would highly recommend this scanner if you are using this for business. The speed, reliability, and feature set really are hard to beat in this price range.

Buy Fujitsu fi-6130Z Duplex Sheet-Fed Document Scanner (PA03630-B055) Now

I bought this scanner after reading a lot of online reviews as well as talking to Fujitsu. The only bad thing I have to say is about Fujitsu is that they understand that they have a really good product and so they package TWAIN drivers at a premium. The cheapest Fujitsu TWAIN scanner is $650 which is kind of ridiculous when you have $80 TWAIN scanners in the market place. They should have TWAIN on all models, its become industry standard.

The scanner is really good, really fast and compact. I scanned 8000 print photos that I had into my pc and it took me a day and a half (most of the time was in sorting the pictures). The duty cycle is excellent and since I don''t scan that much on average, I expect a long life of this product.

I recommend this to anyone that is looking for a high speed scanner. The software is ok, really complicated. I use an organizing software called File Center with this scanner and Im getting rid of 80% of the papers in my office.

I''ve purchased the scanner based on the stellar reviews of Fujitsu scanners in general. It exceeded all my expectations.

Before the 6130z arrived, I was buried in paper to the point where I was keeping a thick stack of binders, notebooks and bills on the coffee table; all bookshelves in my apartment were full.

I ended up digitizing not only my bills and mail as I first thought, but all the binders, notebooks, letters, tax and business related documents and now I am as paper free as it gets.

Note: Unless you are a previous Fujitsu owner, you most likely never heard of ScandAll Pro scanning software. That is all you''ll ever need. However, it does not perform alterations on .pdf files other than the ones created with a Fujitsu scanner.

I previously owned a Fujitsu ScanSnap S5100M , and while its software support for Mac, and even better, its integration with Mariner Software''s Paperless is excellent, the ADF is not robust, and it failed within a year. By the time I contacted Fujitsu, they were very accommodating about repair (seriously, their responsiveness was excellent), but out of warranty, it would cost only $64 less to repair than to replace. So, I decided to upgrade to a more robust scanner. Shamefully, as mechanically and optically excellent as the 6130Z is, Fujitsu provides zero (and I do mean zero) software support for the Mac, as if there are no small offices running Macs that could benefit from this excellent scanner. I knew this going in, so I was prepared for this shortcoming. I tried three solutions on a 2011 iMac 21.5 running Lion 10.7.4 with 16gb RAM: (1) the open source SANE approach, which was not difficult to set up, and it worked okay with the Mariner Paperless software (Paperless seemed to crash with some frequency, and I attribute this to the SANE setup, as I had not had that experience before; (2) a commercial package called fScanX which can run in demo mode with a watermark; and Accordex''s DocKeep, also available in demo mode. Both these commercial packages cost $149, though Accordex has more sophisticated versions that cost $495 and up, with FileMaker integration and features. I ended up choosing DocKeep as another reviewer recommended. Accordex is in the Mac office support business, and they sell bundles with Fujitsu scanners and their software. As I mentioned, with the SANE backend, Paperless crashes too much, and further, its control of the scanner, especially on multi-page scans is erratic, which defeats some of the reason for investing in the 6130Z. fScanX works, and appears well-developed, but not as feature-rich as DocKeep. DocKeep works well, is designed for "production scanning," and is well-supported. So, Mac users, save yourself the frustration, get the scanner and DocKeep, which together coincidentally cost about what the previous package of this scanner cost (when IIRC, Fujitsu did supply Mac support). Somewhat ironically, using DocKeep makes setup such a breeze that none of the difficulties other reviewers describe with Fujitsu''s software need to get in your way. With DocKeep, setup is so easy, if it were offered by Fujitsu with the scanner, as a Mac user, I would rate it 5 stars.

Scan Speed: as specified, and very fast. 5 stars.

Scan Quality: excellent, 5 stars

Convenience: small size & ease of use with DocKeep, 4-5 stars

Dock one star for lack of Mac (and other platform) support

UPDATE 20130122: I have been flogging the Fujitsu daily since the review, sometimes for several hours. It has never failed. With it, I have been able to scan, and then shred, the equivalent of 4 HON 4-drawer file cabinets. DocKeep runs reliably on the most recent beta of Mac OS X Mountain Lion. I wish it was easier to do batch scans and then save individual pages with a different workflow, but I did not pay for that privilege included with the more expensive version of DocKeep.

Like other reviewers here, I was unable to get this drum to work reliably in duplex mode. It would print 3-5 pages and then cause a paper jam. It was really frustrating.

As a last resort, I tried swapping out the drum component....let me explain....I had actually kept the old original Brother drum unit. I remove a couple clips and took out the drum component...the cylindrical part and transferred the one from this replacement drum into the old Brother drum unit.

Now, everything works reliably including duplexing. I''ve just printed 60 duplex pages without any problems.

I suspect the replacement cartridge component is not to the exact spec required and thus the cause of the paper jams. As long as I keep the original Brother cartridge, I can now keep buying these cheap replacement drums.

*EDIT* After 2 weeks with this thing, I have seen it is not perfect, but still worth the price. Specifically, it jams frequently when using full duplex printing. I have pretty much given up on using full duplex with this drum.

Just received this generic drum replacement for my HL-5250DN and after some fiddling it appears that it will be just fine, and at about 1/6th the cost of the OEM version.

One hint, after installing my printer still thought it was using a nearly-dead drum unit. After extensive Googling I was able to find the drum unit count reset procedure, which is this:

1. Open printer door (The same one you opened to take out the toner/drum)

2. Hold down the GO button until all the lights on the top are lit up

3. Release GO button

4. Close door

5. Print at least 5 test pages

This worked like a charm for me

If you print double-sided, and who doesn''t these days to save paper, then this drum is not for you. Like the other reviewers say, you will get a jam for almost every single page you print. It''s garbage! If you print single-sided, it appears to work just fine. I''ve only printed a few pages while trying to debug all these jams. There''s a good chance it won''t hold up under heavy use as the heat wears down the cheap components.

I priced the OEM version of the Brother DR520 drum at two local office supply shops. Both wanted close to $200. I could not figure out how a simple assembly could cost so much so I purchased one online through Amazon for under $40. It works perfectly. It was packed very well. Delivery time was under a week. It has been in place for three weeks with no problems of any sort. Given the success of this purchase, I will be buying toner cartridges from this vendor as well.

This product is performing as well as the orignal Brother drum. Even if it does last as long, and I have no reason to beleive that it won''t, it was absolutely worth the money I saved on this purchase. gg

LaserJet Printer 4250DTN

This is an EXCELLENT printer for someone who desires reliability and low-cost-per-page printing. Though the initial investment is more than other models, the performance is far superior to other brands I have owned (and the long-term reliability I expect to be greater based on other HP models owned). I highly recommend this printer if you print many items.

This refurbished printer is classic HP works perfectly! The only reason I gave it 4 stars is that because it''s a jillion pounds, the seller packaged it safely in that foam packaging that conforms to the shape of your item, but during shipping the bag that contained the hardened foam slit open, and lots of the "foam dust" was down inside the printer...had to take it apart and blow it out with canned air. BUT it''s still a great printer, and the "beginner cartridge" is still printing beautifully after a year and a half, and i print out LOTS of legal and loan documents. This product has met all of my needs and it was very easy to install. HP has all the information needed and Quality Printers whom I purchased it from is great. I had some shipping problems and they helped me through the problems, not to mention I needed some technical support for how my documents were printing and Ed was a huge help. I highly recommend Quality Printers with Ed and Sherry.

The bundles came wrapped in a lightweight folded and glued cardboard box that was shipped without additional packaging. Said cardboard wrap got pretty ripped up on the way to me, but the paper itself seems to be intact. FedEx 2-day generally seems to handle packages okay for me, so I blame the packaging.

I bought this product because I liked the reviews and I like the price. The cards went through the printer fine, but I was disappointed by the quality of the finished product. I print cards using photos that my wife and I have taken. We have used Avery''s 1/2 fold matt finish stock in the past, but we were looking to save a little money and bought this card stock. We printed two cards, one on Printworks and one on Avery''s 1/2 fold matt finish paper, using the same program, same picture, and the same printer. The difference was very evident. The Printworks was flat, lacked the contrast, the vibrant color, and the color accuracy of the Avery card. If you are looking for cardstock to make photo cards out of I would recommend trying Avery or Hallmark instead of this product.

I wanted to stick my photos on these to make fold-over note cards. Unfortunately the paper is quite thin/light, maybe lighter than an index card. Not heavy card stock, more like heavy typing paper.

This is the lightest weight card stock I have ever used. It is so wimpy that I won''t ever buy this brand again.

These things are like very thick sheets of paper with matching envelopes. You can either run them through your printer or glue 4 by 6 photos on the front. They are way cheaper than buying cards at the store and they bring a lot of happiness to the receiver. People also appreciate such things when they are hand made.

I was looking for a nice, heavier paper to use as letterhead and I came across this stuff. I''m familiar with the Southworth brand because that''s what I''ve always used for resumes, etc. I guess it''s my fault for not knowing the weight of "normal" copy paper because that''s what this is, except from the fancier brand, nicer name ("Credentials Collection Fine Paper") and higher price tag. Moral of this story: if you''re looking for a nicer, heavier paper to use for letterheads, reports, resumes, etc. then do not get this paper. Get something heavier than 20lb.

Brother HL-5140 Laser Printer

Brother HL-5140 Laser Printer

  • Up to 21 ppm print speed; manual duplexing
  • 133 MHz processor, 16 MB RAM, expandable to 144 MB
  • Parallel and USB 2.0 interfaces, optional Ethernet and wireless
  • PC, Mac, and Linux compatible

ADDENDUM TO MY REVIEW BELOW ON 09/03/04:

Based on my recent experience, I can no longer recommend this printer.

After using the HL-5140 for a couple of months, my initial favorable opinion of the printer has changed drastically. After putting about 4500-5000 pages through it I began to experience frequent paper jams using standard 8.5 x 11 multipurpose paper.

Clearing the jams proved to be rather difficult and time consuming, invariably requiring the removal of the drum/toner unit (which can be a bit of a wrestling match).

After printing about 7500 pages the printer totally locked up on me, indicating it was out of paper even though the tray was more than half full.

Perhaps the unit I purchased was a "lemon." In their defense, and their customer service is very good, Brother did offer to replace it. However, I declined their offer. After using it for awhile I was not impressed with the 5140''s design or function, and I had serious doubts that any new printer they sent me would perform any better.

Being a medical transcriptionist who is paid on a production basis, I absolutely depend on a completely reliable laser printer that is fast and economical. After the Brother HL-5140 failed me, I purchased an HP LaserJet 1300 that I''m ecstatically happy with.

After 5000 pages, the HP 1300 hasn''t jammed even once, the output looks great, and it''s the fastest and quietest laser printer I''ve ever used.

MY NEW RATING:

The Brother HL-5140 gets two thumbs down after a very exhaustive practical test.

The HP LaserJet 1300 gets two thumbs up as a slightly more expensive, but much better-designed and more reliable printer.

FOLLOWING IS MY ORIGINAL REVIEW OF THE HL-5140:

>> There are a ton of people out there running home businesses like me (I''m a full-time medical transcriptionist)who need the speed and economy of a B&W laser printer, but don''t want or need a $500-1,000-plus "office-type" unit.

Enter the Brother HL-5140, the perfect, affordable, reliable B&W laser printer for a small business that does a lot of printing (where the cost of ink jet cartridges and slow printing can be VERY expensive).

Several years ago, typical of my venerable HP LaserJet 6P that is still working very well, HP produced great inexpensive laser printers while Brother followed their lead and made great products too.

Unfortunately, HP decided to focus on a very profitable "niche market" a couple of years ago and started making a bunch of cheap plastic printers that would have more consumer appeal when it comes to printing photos instead of continuing to make top-quality low to moderate-cost B&W laser printers.

But Brother has continued to make reliable printers that are actually made of metal -what a concept. My Brother 5140 weighs in at about 24 pounds, it''s made of metal and there''s nothing flimsy about it.

So here are the pros and cons of the Brother HL-5140:

PROS:

1. Everything that Brother purports to deliver in terms of printing speed for the 5140 would appear to be accurate. This is one VERY FAST laser printer (rated at 21 ppm).

2. The best thing about the 5140 is how easy it is to install and set up. It''s all completely intuitive and the enclosed installation CD makes the process quick (15 minutes or less) and simple.

3. Most people won''t care about this very obvious plus, but it''s VERY important to some of us old dinosaurs who still use DOS programs. So I need to employ a printer that will accept a parallel connection instead of just USB.

I''m not really a dinosaur, and I use MS Word for everything else, but I still use WordPerfect 5.1 DOS for my work. So I need a printer that will connect on a parallel port and print out my work.

The 5140 with PCL-6 emulation supports all of the latest DOS printer drivers too. No problems printing from DOS in any application.

CONS:

As I''ve said, the 5140 gets my top rating and it''s a definite buy. But there are a couple of things you might want to be aware of:

1. I haven''t tried the feature, but other reviewers have given the printer a thumbs-down in terms of its rendition of graphics. Personally, I could care less. If I need graphics I''ll use my inkjet printer instead.

2. The usual printout path up to the front output tray can tend to curl the printouts a bit more than you''d like depending on temperature and humidity.

All in all, it''s a terrific printer.
