I purchased this old style printer because it matches equipment that I already have. It seems to work OK. It did not come with a power cord though, which I thought was odd. I should be able to find one at Radio Shack.

I bought 2 printers in the last 2 months both HP and both worked OK with the iPad , however it was a chore to print, many times it would print and others not.

Saw this on Amazon and love the Apple looking HP printer.

It was very easy to set up using just the iPad, not any other computer , took less then five minutes, love it, it has a straight plug and not one of those bricks, the look is very art like and it pretty quiet.

Love that the paper tray is hidden and under the front panel.

The touch screen was very fluid like and was easy to scroll, I have a hidden network and set up was very easy found my network in a minute.

The print quality is very good and it faster then my last 2 HPs both current models.

The bests thing it works flawless with my iPad, I can even print EBay shipping labels which I could not before.

I now feel complete without a MacBook.

Update.

I have been getting about 267 prints from a ink carterage which is good, printer can handle all tasks with ease.

Very happy I bought this printer, it looks stunning.

Ink can be found for about 14.00 each refill which is not bad at all.

This is a gorgeous device in search of greatness. It is extremely well built, set up was easy, and it works as expected and as advertised. Print quality and speed in B&W and color is very good although I don''t use this to print large format photographs. The scanner is quite good. The management software is simple and straightforward and the USB (hard wired) and network (wireless) can be individually adjusted. In short, everything works as anticipated.

I think with any multifunction device there are going to be trade-offs that balance price point, performance, and features. I don''t think you will be happy with this printer if you want a quality photo printer but it has only one color ink source so that tells you something. You won''t be happy replacing ink cartridges if you print reams of paper. I wanted a printer that didn''t look like a NASA rover, had good print quality and speed, a good scanner, and wireless capability for a home office. This printer hits the sweet spot for my use and I would purchase it again in a heatbeat.

Why very good and not great? It has it''s weak spots. The print delivery method: open door tongue out paper print tongue back, door close. It needs a little work. The draft setting for color prints tends to produce only a partial page; I guess HP wants you to burn through the color cartridge or maybe it''s intended as a coloration draft only? Software bloat is an issue but that''s easily solved. I''m sure there will be other minor inconveniences but the qauality of the printer and scanner aren''t diminished.

You can definitely buy a better multifunction device but at this price point I haven''t seen anything that competes with this one. And it is a really nice looking piece of equipment. Good luck in your search and hope you find a printer that works as well as this one has for me.

I loved this printer for 1 week. I printed wirelessly to my Macs and ipad and ipod. Then the printer''s internet connection asked if I would like to update. Stupid me, I said yes. It went into the HP death spiral and not only would not finish the update, but would never work again. After much time on the phone with HP, they offered me a rebuilt unit as a replacement; I said no, the printer is a week old and you can send a brand new one. And are you going to take down the update which destroyed my printer and many others (google HP Envy D410 problems and you will see)

I WOULD GIVE IT 1/2 star if that were possible

Never install the HP updates!!!!

I would add after dealing with HP, I just gave up----hopeless.

I love Amazon---full refund with no hassles.

I also bought amazon stock today and sold my hp-----eventually those attitudes show much about the company.

Can you believe they are still sending this HP "deathstar" update?

I purchased this model a couple months back and I find the scanning and printing functions to work well; however there is one bug which I have noticed. On this model, the control panel opens and closes upon power up and whenever you perform a printing function. The lid is suppose to close to the position that it was left at before it opened. This default position or angle of the control panel is manually adjustable to allow the user to manage the viewing angle of the LCS display. However, on my printer I find the lid does not always close or return to its "default" position. I have to actually manually close the lid.

The problem is intermittent. I did download the last software version to the printer but it made no difference.

Now, this is not a big deal because it is easy to manually close the lid but when I called HP support, I must say I was disappointed. The support desk engineers had no familiarity of the printer nor access to one and they did not seem to be interested in flagging this issue to the design team. I explained to them that the problem only occurs after printer and is intermittent, but never occurs when you first power up the printer. In other words, there is no mechanical or hardware problem with the printer. The problem seems to be that the printer software "forgets" on occassion what the "return" position is for the lid. I spent a few hours of my time trying to troubleshoot and share my findings with HP support, but like I said, their support team in India seems to be clueless or not well educated on customer service and problem management.

Now I will admit that HP did offer me the option to replace my printer, but I told them I ws sure the problem is in the software and I would end up driving 80 miles back/forth to the store and just end up with another unit with the same issue. Will see who is right once this printer gets out there more.

I''ve been looking for a wireless printer to replace my old HP Deskjet in my home office. Some of the recent models look cheap and bulky and are criticized for being noisy. The HP Envy 100 meets the need. The setup went so smoothly and the scan and copy features were easy to learn. It''s compact and attractive on the desk. The only drawback is the lack of separate feeder for envelopes. You need to remove the paper from the paper tray in order to insert envelopes. This is not a frequent occurrence for me so it is easy to overlook.

I am writing this in July 2008 I bought the HP j6450 AIO printer and installed it on my imac. The CD that came with the printer did not support OS X version 10.5! But it was not obvious until i tried to install it and it would not work. So after some time I went to the HP site and sure enough there was a download for OS X 10.5 I did it and the printer installed with no problems and wireless works great as do all features. Just be sure to check your OS version and get the correct drivers!

The HP website doesn''t make this very clear but their online/phone support is very helpful.

Here is my understanding of difference between these two printer models:

The 6450

Can store 110 speed dial/fax numbers

Can scale from 50-200% in 1% increments

Is sold with a USB cable

Is usally sold via club stores

The 6480

Can store 100 speed dial/fax numbers

Can scale from 25-400% in 1% increments

Is sold without a USB cable

* Both models support duplex (2-sided) printing

I purchased this multifunction printer to replace another HP multifunction printer that had failed. In the process of setting this up, I came to realize that the installation CD that came with it -along with HP''s installation instructions -are to be avoided at all costs. Instead, I''d follow Chong Yip''s set-up suggestions for PC''s running Vista. See his review under Amazon''s product: HP Officejet J6480. Without his tips, or my subsequent adjustments (see my comment that follows his review), I would surely have returned this machine. It has many useful features, especially its wireless networking capabilities, but HP''s convoluted directions and accompanying bloatware diminish its value. That''s why I gave it 4 stars -for the steep learning curve I had to climb in order to get it to work. Otherwise, it''s a winner.

Want HP CB030A1H3 Officejet J6450 All-In-One Printer Discount?

Just purchased the printer at Sam''s Club. The setup for use as a wireless network printer was easy. Color prints, color copies and scans are all high quality and relatively speedy.

Setting up wireless connections to two different laptops was quick and easy with this HP Officejet J6450! After following the illustrated steps to unpack and plug in the printer, I ran the CD-install on two different laptops -one running Windows XP, and the other running Windows Vista. Simple, automatic, flawless, perfect! I was, to be honest, pleasantly surprised! No techno skills required!

This is not a high end printer (the only reason I wouldn''t bestow 5 stars), but it''s perfect for our kitchen, and so practical for quick handy printing of anything from wherever we are around the house. Fax, copy, scan, no problem!

Well folks, I don''t know about you but I am stocking up on my favorite films, and FAST. I couldn''t find the HP5+ PRINT film on Ilford''s website, so I''m not sure if they have stopped making it, or maybe it''s just not featured. Either way, it''s a good time to stock up, and film keeps past it''s expiration date.

The Ilford HP5+ is an EXCELLENT all-around film, with fine grain, sharp images, and most of all it responds very well to push-processing. There really isn''t much more you could ask for in a film. It currently is priced very closely to other Ilford films of less quality (Delta comes to mind) so for this price and free Amazon shipping, you better swoop it up quick!

PROS

Fine grain

Sharp images

Beautiful contrast

Easy to develop

Responds well to push-processing

CONS

Only comes in 400 (although it works well in all lighting!)

I bought this film because my photography teacher told me that there was no true black and white like real black and white film. Being the great student I was, I picked up a maxxum film camera, whose lenses are compatible with my Sony camera. Turns out my photography teacher was right! This film has a PERFECT grain to detail ratio. Although developing it is quite expensive ( $20.00 per roll) I still enjoyed the pictures I got back from this film. In fact, if film weren''t so expensive I''d put my DSLR down for good!

Canon BJC-50 Color Bubble Jet Printer

Canon BJC-50 Color Bubble Jet Printer
  • Compact, portable design
  • Lithium-ion battery
  • Parallel and infrared IrDA interfaces
  • Drop modulation technology enhances print quality
  • Ready for color image-scanner option

I purchased this printer after a very bad experience when I traveled away from home and needed to print out a simple document. So I had my laptop and I saw those ads about a business that offers to be your office away from home. Well, I could not get the document printed out. So I did my research and purchased the BJC-50 since it was the smallest portable printer available at the time (the two Canons and a HP version). My BJC-50 is about seven years old and still works. It worked well with my laptop and Windows 98 and now with my laptops using Windows XP.

PROS:

The BJC-50 is the smallest available travel printer for printing documents and prints at a relatively acceptable speed.

The BJC-50 printer includes a LiON battery which makes for truly portable printing. I''m amazed how long a charge lasts and the battery pack is inside a battery compartment in the printer (not externally like the HP Deskjet 460 series). Well, the LiON battery is piggy back attached to the HP 460. I''m guessing that HP recommends removing the battery before traveling. You don''t need to do that with the BJC-50. Just remember to slide the power lock switch on the right side of the BJC-50 to prevent the printer from accidentally turning on when traveling.

CONS:

The REALLY BAD part of this printer is that the ink cartridges, once opened, do not last very long. The color cartridges dry out faster than the black cartridges. And the ink cartridges do not provide feedback to indicate the amount of ink remaining in each cartridge.

The printer is relatively loud when it is printing.

You need to be careful when feeding the paper otherwise the printer ejects the paper.

I cannot get the IS-12 Scanner Cartridge in the BJC-50 printer to communicate with the IS application under Windows XP even though Canon''s web site and the Readme file says it is supported (there is a configuration issue somewhere). This is more effort than its worth for now.

SUMMARY: This is one temperamental printer. While it provides convenient printing on the go, I think it takes more effort than it should just to get something printed.

I''m purchasing a HP Deskjet 460WF. I''ll let you know how I like it soon.

I have owned several brands and models of portable printers... nothing like this one! Its portability, reliability, and quality are just the best. Ink tanks last fairly long also.

I purchased the Canon BJC-50 in August of 1998. It has taken at least three hours to three days of effort to get it to work for each time that I have occasionally used it. I have used it mainly for color printing, and also for scanning with the optional scanning cartridge. It is particularly troublesome when switching from scan to print functions. It is quite noisy. I can not depend on it to function when I need it. It usually works eventually, but only after many trial and error attempts. Email technical support usually does not provide a quick solution. There have been no quick solutions. There have only been time consuming, painstaking encounters with this machine.

Want Canon BJC-50 Color Bubble Jet Printer Discount?

Excellent printer...everything that I thought it would be . Works wells all the time. Works wells with Windows XP and downloaded driver from Canon site.

Even though it said that the infrared wireless printing only works with Windows 95, I found that it worked just as well with Windows ME installed in my laptop.

Two great benefits of the BJ-50: 1. Infrared wireless printing (if your laptop supports it) 2. There is battery in the printer, so you don''t have to connect it to an electrical outlet to print! Both features are VERY convenient.

Print quality is decent, but I can''t comment on ink life since I have just begun to use the printer.

I have a Canon Pixma printer and the glossy cardstock is excellent! The cards are scored so they can be easily and uniformly folded after printing. If you create a card with a photo, this glossy card stock truly brings out the colors beautifully. If you have a line drawing or only print on your cards, regular cardstock will be fine. I''ve run off the same card with a photo on regular cardstock (not glossy) and then on these glossy cards and the difference is absolutely amazing. The glossy side brings out the beauty of the photo and the cards look professional. Intend to reorder again. Love it!

I''ve ordered this product twice. Both times, some of the packages arrived unsealed -this time, one had a strip of scotch tape closing it back up. I''d just write that off to it being old and the glue losing its hold, but each of the packages was missing one or two sheets.

Glossy front and back, matte inside...perfect. I was unable to find glossy greeting card paper in the retail stores, and was uneasy about ordering without seeing the paper. No worries! This paper was better than any I''ve used in the past and the glossy side does justice to the photo. My Christmas cards are now personalized and showcase a fantastic Christmas picture of my dog! I would have given it a 5 star review if the paper was thicker. It''s totally acceptable in thickness, but I''d prefer thicker to feel more like "bought" cards.

Canon PIXMA MP810 All-in-One Photo Printer (1453B002)

  • 4,608 precision nozzles create up to 9600 x 2400 color dpi
  • Print from compatible memory cards and wirelessly from compatible Bluetooth devices
  • Reprint directly from film

While I have only had this photo printer a very short time, I can already say that it is impressive.

I have never seen this good of print quality.

The 4800x4800 scanner delivered a beautiful 8x10 print from a 35mm negative with no adjustments or computer assistance. The copies were quick and faithful.

I am truly pleased to have purchased this MP810.

I did have some trouble installing the software from the driver cd. For some reason the installation would stall at various points and after 11 or 12 tries it finally installed completely. The drivers themselves work fine.

I have owned several photo printers and used Kodak dye sublimation printers. This high resolution printer simply beats all of my previous experiences.

The printer is Quiet and fast. The scanner is fast and incredibly sharp. Plus it has features that I do not even have time to talk about that are truly amazing. Too many good things to say about it.

If you have 35mm slides that you want to turn into 4x6 prints, then this is the machine for you. I just printed some 53 year old 35mm slides as 4x6 prints and was very surprised at the quality of the colors and clarity of the prints. The Fade Restoration option is great for some of those slides that need a little "extra". The fact that you don''t even need a computer to get started is a big plus. Of course, you do get a lot more versatility with the computer software, but if you just want quality prints from film, slides, cameras, etc. without the hassle of loading up software, this is great!

Con it is a bit on the bulky side, so make sure you have enough room to set it up. I have mine on a card table so that I have more room to lay out the slides I want to print.

I give it a "thumbs up".

After reading reviews at Amazon and elsewhere and seeing the product in the store, the MP810 became my choice. Now I''m the winner!!

I can''t give this printer 10 stars and I''d like to. Printed photos from my digital camera are exquisite and vivid with great definition and depth. Love the separate color cartridges as my granddaughter often wears pink. Using the maintenance ink check, after 15 full coverage 8x10 sheets, the magenta cartridge was down 1/4 and the rest were still at the full mark. I''ve reproduced my husband''s business card on card stock using a PDF format and he couldn''t be happier. The 9 pt. font is clear and sharp. Printed maps from the internet are equally clear and sharp. Printing on both sides is so practical for reports and stored records.

The scanned photos easily popped up into Photoshop CS and look great printed. 4x6 borderless are a snap and beautiful. Usually I wait 24 hrs. to place photos in an album, but I believe these are fully dry much sooner. Printed text included my 1040 and other reports in small fonts. Couldn''t be happier with the printed text (though I noted other reviewers comments to the contrary).

The film/slide scanner is the main feature for choosing this printer over the others. Last year I paid a local camera store $250 to scan 150 slides that were 60 years old. I am preparing another iPhoto book using more of the 60 year-old slides as well as old and new family photos.

Though it is a larger footprint than the HP AIO it replaced, the MP810 looks sophisticated and runs very smoothly (do unlock the scanning bed when you are setting it up). It was an easy set-up out of the box. The screen on the printer is easy to use. Our somewhat elderly digital camera will soon be replaced, but in the meantime the SmartMedia card it uses works just fine in this printer.

This is an awesome, A+ printer. Skipped the fax feature as a requirement since the old HP AIO still faxes OK as a stand alone. You will not regret owning and having fun with this beautiful, many-featured workhorse.

Want Canon PIXMA MP810 All-in-One Photo Printer (1453B002) Discount?

After doing much research, and doing a side-by-side comparison of the Canon All-in-One Printers (Pixma MP830, Pixma MP600, Pixma MP510), the Epson All-in-One Printers, and the HP All-in-One Printers, I can say with complete confidence that Canon''s Pixma line is easily the top of the grouping. The Epson and HP came no where close to the quality of the Canon''s, especially when comparing copying onto everyday use paper.

However, I purchased the MP810 sight unseen. None of the Big Boxes in my area had it available. I purchased it from Crutchfield.com and I was very happy with their service, and definitely with the speed with which they shipped. I received the printer a week before I received other items I had purchased from Amazon.com on the same order.

After having played around with it for over 3wks, I am absolutely delighted with it. The PhotoStudio program that comes with it is easy to learn, and has wonderful features. Yes, the 35mm neg scanning is slow, however, since I can preview each of the negatives before committing to a scan, I can speed up the process by not including the negatives that I have no interest in. Also, I have used other more expensive scanners for 35mm neg scanning, and the MP810 is no slouch in the quality of the scan. Well worth the wait, in fact.

My husband, who is an artist, and very, very picky, has been very impressed with the print quality. Now he says that we need a new camera! I printed a picture of textured sand taken at the beach, and you can see the grains of sand!

The only draw back I can see, is that the MP Navigator program stinks. In fact, I have removed the shortcut from my desktop so that I don''t accidentally use it....

After much research, I bought this printer about 6 weeks ago. I have a Canon Rebel XT camera and wanted a printer that would print great photos as well as scan 35mm slides and negatives. So far everything more than lives up to my expectations! I really like this printer and I''ve had a lot of experience with printers both at home and at work. I am an artist and planned to use the camera to take photos of possible subjects for paintings and print them as a reference. I also use it as a way of keeping a digital record of all my paintings. I use the printer to scan in small paintings directly, scan in old slides of my paintings, take photos of paintings in progress, and to scan in old color negatives to use as reference material. The only problem I had was figuring out how to scan in the slides and negatives and save them to my computer the printer instructions only told you how to print them. However, I looked at the software that came with the printer and immediately was able to figure out how to scan them to the computer and save the images. Because of its versatility, the printer has quickly become an indispensable tool for me as an artist. But don''t forget to buy the USB cable which you will need to hook up to your computer!

I really love this printer. I use a label printer almost every day. I ordered some additional spools to hold the variety of labels and I just swap out the spools and go. I don''t print postage anymore, that was years ago. I print file labels, address labels, shipping labels and product marking labels.

Label food containers, label envelopes, label storage boxes. Now you can find ANYTHING!

I love this printer! It has been probably around 4 months since I bought it and the free black ink cartridge just ran out now and there is still over half of the color one. To refill the black ink I figured out that you can actually order it online just by clicking on the hp printer utility icon on the computer. They tell you the ink the printer needs and there is free next day shipping! I couldn''t believe this. Printer also has many options like multi pages on one and quick print to save ink. It also is very fast and great quality.

This printer is almost completely worthless. It jams all the time and forget about printing on envelopes. The ink is garbage and smears if you look at it wrong. It takes a long time to startup and shutdown and occasionally emits high-pitch electrical noise. Its only redeeming quality is that I got it free with my mac purchase and it does manage to print successfully on good days.

HP used to make great stuff. This printer just kind of died after about 6 months, and less than 200 sheets printed. Same as for the c4280. Terrible software, uses tons of ink, prevents you from using 3rd party cartridges. I wouldn''t recommend this to a friend.

Worked fine for a few months, then paper jam city. The online chat was terrible--it was just a way to try and sell more HP printers. AVOID.

HP C7019A Greeting Cards (White, Half-Fold, 8.5in X 11in, 20 Sheets And Envelopes)

HP C7019A Greeting Cards
  • High-quality white greeting cards
  • Elegant textured finish
  • Package includes 20 cards with matching envelopes
  • 8.5 x 11-inch sheet folds to 5.5 x 8.5-inch card
  • Works great with all inkjet printers

These cards are heavier, brighter and have a great textured finish that makes for a better quality final product. Be sure to test various options on your printer-for my HP Photosmart printer, the best looking option was for regular paper-NOT photo paper or any of the other options.

The card, when folded, is half of a standard 8 1/2 X 11" sheet of paper. The envelopes are also textured and are heavier than the less expensive ones from the competition. If you are looking for something that competes with something you might get from your local custom printer, I''d suggest you pay the extra for these cards, and forget the Avery or brand X ones you may find elsewhere.

I needed to replace our existing cash register for an outdoor kiosk. I was looking for a simple design that was easy to move, operate and program. I have used Sharp registers in the past and had good luck. We have used this daily for the past month and so far are pleased with the machine.

The correct receipt paper for this is PM Company Perfection POS/Calculator Rolls, 2.25 Inches x 150 Feet, White, 12/Pack (08835)

The register appears professional and will serve its basic purpose but as you set out to configure it, you''ll wonder what century you transported into. Make some copies of the manual and keep them in a safe place since there is no way to recreate the bizarre sequences of keystrokes needed to set up the various features. In this age of inexpensive memory and ASICs, a USB interface and graphical UI could have made this product more user friendly by many orders of magnitude.

We bought 3 of these cash registers for an annual event. It is easy to use but you can''t shut of tax calculations so it wastes a lot of paper for reports. We just programmed 3 department keys with prices and it worked well.

I needed a replacement for a register used in a small business and thought this looked good. Thats exactly what it is... good, not great!!! It was hard to program the tax and you have to use too many keys to make a transaction. I''ve had it for a month now and I still feel frustrated by it. I guess for the price, that''s what you get!!I hope it grows on me..

We recently opened a non-profit retail store for our local library and wanted a cash register to keep track of sales. This item does a good job and we tally at the end of each day using the total from the register. It was difficult to decipher which total to use for this, but now it''s not a problem. One negative feature is that it is very slow printing the receipt. But for the price, I''d recommend it for any small business.

I just recieved my scanner and am very pleased with it. I spent about 4 hours total scanning in over 1,000 4x6 photos. It took less 30 seconds per photo and it did not scratch any of my photos even without the special photo holder that came with it to scan them.

I have not yet scanned any documents, as I bought this primarily to scan photos. I like how small and compact it is and I could sit anywhere to scan a stack of photos. Excellent buy and would recommend it to a friend.

I will add if you photo is being scanned vertically or is smalled than 4x6, it scans with an odd line down the side (which I assume could be prevented if you use the photo scanner holder thingy!), but I just cropped out the extra in my photo editing program.

This is a piece of junk. If the paper is too thin or too soft the feeder will not detect the paper.

I bought this when I realized that between tax, work, and home I had piles of papers that were completely disorganized and taking up space. I took me one evening to scan all the documents from the past six years. The quality turned out very well, even for longer than standard pieces of paper. My property tax statements would be too long to fit on a normal flatbed scanner, this scanner handled them perfectly. The preview screen is small but gives a reasonable view of what was scanned to see if it came out okay.

I haven''t used this scanner for anything but text documents. I have no idea if it works well with pictures.

I use this to scan documents and receipts. As best I can tell, this scanner is not capable of scanning directly to a PC, but you can hook it to a PC to transfer the images off the SD card after you''re done scanning. I use it mainly with an Eye-Fi SD card to automatically transfer scanned documents to my Android tablet over WiFi. If you''re looking to scan documents on the go without a PC this is exactly what you need.

I needed to replace an old HP deskjet that I''ve had for more than 5 years that finally decided to stop working properly. I did a lot of research online and quickly got very caught up with all of these massive all-in-one devices that had way more functionality than I would ever need. If you are like me and just need a home printer to print the occasional directions/maps, recipes, coupons, bills, etc., then this is definitely the printer for you.

Before you buy a printer online you need to go to a store and see just how large these all-in-one devices actually are. My wife took one look at them and told me there is no way that is going in our home office even if it also served as a micro fridge and coffee maker. The great thing about this HP 3050 is that it has a much smaller footprint than most all-in-one printers. It has print, copy, and scan functionality, but no fax. Who needs a fax these days anyways when you can just scan a file and then email the scanned document. Most devices don''t have a fax out capability anyways so unless you are operating a business out of your house and you receive a lot of faxes the lack of fax on this model should not be a problem.

The printer is not too heavy and it''s packaged really well in the box. Instead of being wrapped in styrofoam it is secured with recycled cardboard and wrapped in a reusable canvas bag that you can use for your groceries. It comes with a quick installation guide, as most HP printers do, and the set up went very smoothly with no problems. There is one piece of cardboard wedged inside near the ink cartridges that I missed, but the printer told me of my error and it was easy enough to remove.

Setting up wireless was also not a problem, but you will need to be familiar with your wireless network security settings in order to get the printer connected. An alternative is just using the USB cable, which is nicely included in the box. I haven''t played around with web printing yet, but it''s not hard to just plug the USB cable into my desktop or laptop and print what I need.

The only negative I can think of is that the printing is a bit loud, but unless you''re keeping the printer in the room with the baby crib the noise isn''t THAT loud that it would be a dealbreaker. Ink consumption so far is not noticeably different than my prior HP, but I don''t print all that much all that often so this is tough to measure for me.

Overall a high quality printer with all the functionality non business users would need with a smaller footprint and lower price tag than most other all-in-one printers.

I bought this printer to replace my old Lexmark that was very faithful but used very expensive ink. I wasn''t

interested in wireless, but wanted a new scanner also and this item was very well priced. The install was painless on windows 7 and took only 10 min. including tests. Printer, copier and scan worked flawlessly. my only concern

is noise when printing starts. I hear several bumps and grinds as printing begins and I hope this is normal.

This is a great product for the occasional home use. Printing, scanning, copying is fast. The build quality isn''t top notch, but acceptable. One of the features that was not very clear from the product description was the wireless printing. Box says it needs a WPS enabled router, however, that is only for one touch wireless setup. The printer can be easily configured to print wirelessly from a PC using the HP supplied drivers. I tried this from windows 7 and setup was a breeze. The instructions supplied are very clear and concise. Printer has some in-built templates like calendar, notebook paper, graph paper which I found useful as opposed to downloading a template from the internet and printing that. Wireless printing/scanning works very well (I have a WRT54G router). Scanned files can be converted to jpeg or PDF or TIF.

I love this printer. It was exceptionally easy to install even for a novice like me.

Brother High-Speed Label Printer with Wireless Networking (QL710W) Save 50% off

Brother High-Speed Label Printer with Wireless Networking
  • The QL-710W wireless label printer offers easy connectivity - print from virtually anywhere or share on a network
  • Create cost-effective paper labels for packages, envelopes, file folders, discs, banners and more
  • Ultra-fast, printing up to 93 labels per minute
  • Capable of printing postage for packages and envelopes, right from your desk
  • Print labels on-the-go using the free, Brother iPrint&Label app download

The QL710W label printer combines an intuitive and stable software suite, with excellent print quality and speed, and wireless connectivity resulting in a full featured professional grade label printer for the home or home office.

What''s to like:

[1] Installation and setup are fairly straightforward

[2] The accompanying software suite is very intuitive, stable, and full featured.

[3] This printer writes with heat on thermal paper as a result you will never have to worry about ink.

[4] Excellent print quality with clear text and graphics. Its palette is a fairly limited gray-scale, so clean high contrast images work best.

[5] Well written documentation. In addition to a printed Quick Setup guide, you get PDF guides for its software and for networking.

[6] It is solidly built, and looks sleek and professional.

Setup:

#####

I setup the QL710W on a Windows 7 x64 bit Core i7 based machine with 6GB RAM, and it worked without fuss or incident.

Set up consists of installing a label roll and threading the tape to an output slot. The software is comprised of a contact manager, a free form graphical label editor, and printer drivers. Once the drivers are installed, you have two options when connecting to this printer:

1. you can connect it directly to your computer via a USB cable, or

2. you can use it as a wireless printer. To configure it with your network''s SSID and passphrase, you must either use Wifi Protected Setup (WPS, not advisable due to security concerns), or you must use the USB cable. I used the latter, and the connection was established in a couple of minutes.

What''s really cool for a techie nerd like me?

Once the QL710W is up and running on your network, you can talk to it using a web based interface. Simply navigate to it using an internal IP address (the one assigned by your router''s DHCP server)!

How cool is that?

Software Suite:

###########

The QL710W does not skimp on its software offering:

1. P-touch Editor 5 a free-form label editor.

You pick a label size (with choices such as Standard/Large/Small Address Label, CD/DVD label, 2" Binder spine, etc.), and then go to town with your edits. Among others, you can:

# add and style text (font, size, style) as well as add effects such as shadow, outline, and layouts that are vertical, circular, and curved!

# add images (an assortment of clip art is supplied, and you can always import images from files);

# add screen captures using a SnagIt style interface

# add barcodes from a variety of protocols (UPC-A/E, EAN8/13, ISBN-2, POSTNET, QR Codes, etc.)

# add the calendar for a given month

If that weren''t enough, it can integrate with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook!

Finally, a minimized mode (called Snap mode) lets you capture content via screen shots or drag and drop for later editing.

Suffice it to say that this software is probably worth the sticker price of this unit!

2. P-touch Address Book 1.1 a contact manager

You can manage contact information and print using preset layouts. Of course, if you wish to edit a layout, you are taken immediately to the P-touch Editor, with a full arsenal of tools at your command.

Conclusion:

########

Its older sibling, the QL720NW, adds an Ethernet interface as well as a serial port. However, for general home office use, the QL710W is a sufficiently powerful machine, especially when considering its accompanying software suite. Printing speed in particular is to be seen to be believed.

There''s a lot to like with this well designed printer making it truly a 5-star product.

Happy Printing!

There are 2 ways to use this product on a Mac platform from your OS X machine or your iOS device (iPhone or iPad). I had trouble loading the software from the included disk. The download from the website failed also. I spent 40 minutes on the phone with their terrific customer support person, who was unable to resolve the issue, getting the same results as I did. He deferred to a senior tech, who emailed me that it was probably my machine as there were "no known issues", even on OX 10.8. It''s a new MacBook Air, so probably not, but we''ll see... This needs resolution, whether it''s a fluke issue of mine or a legit issue.

I was able to easily connect my iPhone and iPad via wireless using the free app. It worked so great, that not having the Air working with it was less of an issue.

So, actually 5 stars for the hardware and iOS app. Deducting 2 stars for this unresolved OS X hassle.
