Brother Printer MFC8950DW Wireless Monochrome Printer Save 19% off

Brother Printer MFC8950DW Wireless Monochrome Printer with Scanner, Copier and Fax
  • Print and copy at up to 42ppm
  • Automatic duplex print/copy/scan/fax
  • 5" Color Touchscreen display with Web Connect
  • 550-sheet paper capacity, expandable
  • Built-in wireless 802.11b/g/n and Gigabit Ethernet network interfaces

I''ve configured and setup Canon, Epson, and HP printers over the years but this is my first Brother model. With USB and network connectivity being more common in the past few years, there''s really not much initial setup difference between brands.

I took the unit out of the box and began removing umpteen pieces of strapping tape and figured out how to install the initial starter (3,000 pages) cartridge and paper trays. (Two different high yield cartridges are available for purchase as well.) Took me a little while to figure how to fit everything in, but the instructions were clear. Powered the unit up and programmed it via touchscreen to connect to my wifi. Unfortunately, it does not support 5GHz 802.11n networks so I joined it with my 2.4GHz network, and after figuring out a few acronyms, got it to print. My Macs running Mountain Lion (10.8) had no problem seeing the printer via Bonjour and drivers were installed automatically.

I did not refer to the user guide during the setup process, but there are several available printed in addition to some very detailed network guides on the enclosed CD-ROM. Brother stroke a good balance between providing decent documentation but not printing a 500 page manual that everyone doesn''t need.

Printed the first few documents quickly and double sided with ease. I''ve printed envelopes and standard 20lb paper and haven''t had any jams or misfeeds. Clear, crisp black printing as expected from a laser. I didn''t time it to see if it met 42 pages per minute but it doesn''t seem too far off.

Once the printer is on the network, it''s much easier to configure via the HTTP gateway on the your computer''s web browser rather than the touch screen. First, I put in an SMTP gateway to be able to do scan-to-email and a POP server for email-to-print directly on the unit. Scan-to-email works great directly on the unit in PDF, JPG, or other common formats, including the fast and accurate automatic document feeder (ADF.) Unfortunately, email-to-print only works with the TIFF-F format -which is not useful. Would be nicer to be able to send a PDF directly to the printer (or even a word doc) and have it print as is, but alas, no. Subsequently, I shut this feature off. Similarly, printing via the front USB port is limited to PRN files (Windows) and JPG images -not real useful.

I did not test the fax function as I do not have a landline to test it out, but it seems well thought out and offers plenty of options (PC-Fax, address book, etc.) Scanning directly to my Mac does not work with the native Mac OS drivers but requires the installation of software from Brother -not sure who to blame for this, but my Epson inkjet multifunction totally functions within the native Mac OS X scan and print application. Additional software is included in the CD-ROM, but I didn''t feel a need to install it.

In terms of other costs, there''s 128MB RAM standard in the printer and it''s expandable using standard DIMMs. This should be fine for most users though. The drum unit, which is not part of the cartridge, has to be replaced every 30,000 pages -so factor this into your per page cost even if you are buying high yield cartridges. (Other brands usually include a new drum unit with every cartridge -I know this to be the case with HP.)

I''m knocking off one star for some poor thinking in the networking functions (no 5GHz network support), no native Mac network scanning, and unnecessary requirements of obscure/uncommon formats (i.e. TIFF) for the USB mass storage printing and email-to-print. If those features don''t really matter to you, then you''ve likely got a 5 star unit for your small to medium size office with laser printing, color scanning, and monochrome copying/faxing needs.

Over the past few years I''ve spent well over $10,000 on Amazon. Just call me an amazon junkie! However, I think I''ve probably written only one review during that time. I''m grateful for those that do write reviews and I read many, many reviews as I research my purchases. Having said that, this printer is so freaking awesome I can''t resist letting the rest of my junkie friends know how wonderful it is.

I am a geek. I have used Dell, Apple, Epson, Brother, HP, Samsung, Ricoh, Canon, etc. printers. I have set them up, used them, abused them, and loved many. This Brother MFC8950DW is replacing a HP Color Laserjet 2840. There is absolutely no comparison between the two. Although I should point out the HP was a color laser multi-function printer. I bought a $150 epson multi-function to take care of my color needs and I bought this Brother printer to take care of the high-volume daily needs for B&W laser printing, faxing, copying, scanning, etc.

I could go on for hours about the greatness of this machine. However, let me skip to the pertinent details that are not well documented.

This is definitly geared for the workplace.

It has settings locks, function locks, and more.

It comes with all the necessary drivers on CD.

Another reviewer dissed it due to not having network drivers. The drivers come on the CD. It''s a network printer.

It''s wifi built-in. I don''t know what that guy was talking about. I have 4 different computers all using this printer.

All 4 computers use the printer wirelessly. No problems. No errors. No confusion. It was amazingly simple. The silly

CD even finds the printer on the network and does all the installation/firewall/port routing for you. It''s really really easy.

It is an excellent scanner. The scanning resolution can be changed depending on your needs, so those that didn''t like

the scanning quality need to adjust their settings. Upon receipt of this AIO (all-in-one) I immediately set the employees

up with the task of scanning in 10 pages from 320 files. That comes out to 3,200 pages scanned. Every page had hole

punches in the top of the page. We fed the tops into the ADF even though the documentation said not to as the ADF

might jam. Many of the 3,200 pages were dog-eared, wrinkled, or otherwise imperfect. Over the course of 3,200 pages

we had 5 jams. (Jams are super simple to clear) That is simply unbelievably impressive.

All of the scanning was done wirelessly and it effortlessly sent the pdf''s to the computer we told it to. It scans into tiff''s,

pdf''s, jpeg''s, and more! You determine either at the time you scan or via the control panel how you want it to scan your job.

You pick the resolution and the format it''s saved into. This is true for the USB capabilities as well.

It can scan to an e-mail address, or a computer on the network.

It has it''s own e-mail capabilities. Once I set it up with an e-mail address of it''s own, I can scan anything and e-mail it

to anyone in the world, without using a computer.

The paper tray hold closer to 550 pages.

Although this is a B&W printer, it will scan and fax in color if you want it to.

The warranty is 1 year, but is an on-site warranty!

Pound for pound I don''t think there''s another MFC on the market that comes anywhere near this one at this price point. Originally I was just going to replace my HP with the newest model from HP. However, when I actually went to a store and looked at the HP models, I was highly unimpressed with the build quality. They felt cheap and had tiny touchscreens. I love that this printer retains physical buttons to navigate it''s menus and use it''s functions. The touchscreen works like a charm as well, but for heavy office use, I wanted physical buttons as well.

I''m sure if you''re still reading this, you probably think I''m a fanatic........and maybe I am. This MFC has made me a fanatic. I''m trying to save my personal pennies to buy one for my home. It''s overkill for my home, but it''s that awesome. It''s that well made. It''s that easy to use. It''s everything I could hope for in a MFC (save color printing capabilities, hence the Epson) and the supplies (i.e. toner, imaging drum, etc.) are cheap (when compared to competitors) and the high yield toner lasts forever! Someone stated that they can''t get the toner for this printer. I ordered an extra when I bought this and received it within days. I failed to mention how fast this dang thing is at printing. It is freaky fast at printing. Single-sided and double-sided.

If you have any questions, leave a comment and I''ll try and answer them.

We have only just setup this printer, but have used other older models that are similar. It was a snap with windows XP and windows 7 PC''s. We don''t have windows server in our little environment.

As we expected the brother network setup software installed quickly and easily on windows xp and 7. The drivers are lightweight, especially as compared to what comes with HP printers that stuff won''t fit on a CDROM, so they have to package it on DVD. We use wired networking and that setup was trivially easy. It just DHCP''d (automatic IP assignment) and that''s that.

One of the very nice things about the driver install it is registers your PC on the multifunction so you can scan to your computer from the unit. No relay race to place paper and run to your PC to start the scan. Nice! The scanning quality and paper handling is also quite good. Even though the printer is monochrome, the scanning is full color. The auto-feeder works well and so far is quite reliable. The legal size scanning is great.

We don''t use the FAX function on this unit, but the setup has been easy to perform in the past and looking over the instructions it appears the same on this unit.

Printing is quick and high quality. In one older brother model there were paper handling issues with #10 envelopes. Not with this one. Paper handling is great. The large paper tray is nice too.

On-printer controls are mostly on the relatively large touch screen. This is a big improvement from older models and I find it makes changing settings quick and easy.

I used to be a HP gal, but now I''ve been converted to a brother enthusiast.

Laser Multifunctions like this Brother are the Swiss Army Knives of small offices and businesses. Like most Brother printers and multifunction machines, this one is easy to set up, has good print quality and very reasonably priced toners, particularly with Brother Printer TN780 Super High Yield Toner Cartridge which gives 12000 pages, the cost per page is 0.91 cents, as of now. One of the least expensive laser printer costs per page. Works well as a fast printer, copier, fax machine and scanner.

Setting this multifunction apart, in a sea of Brother and other multifuncion machines, are the following 3 things:

1. SPEED: fast print speed of 42 pp improves the efficiency of a busy office.

2. COLOR TOUCH SCREEN CONTROL: instead of hard to read monochrome menu trees nested within trees. Having multiple features in a machine is useful only if you can use the features easily and large color touch screen makes it easier to change settings so you can use more of the features.

3. PRINT FROM MOBILE DEVICES: using AirPrint, Google Cloud Print, Brother iPrint&Scan, Cortado Workplace, and Wi-Fi Direct. I personally have not yet printed from any mobil device or Google Docs.

Although it is a network multifunction, when I hooked it up to a Windows SBS2011 server, the CD that came with the printer did not have drivers for the server! I got a screen message to download the drivers from Brother web site which has a lot of stuff like manuals, drivers etc. but very poorly organized with no clear explanations as to which driver is for which purpose. There was no driver for Windows SBS2011. On calling Brother technical support, they answered within 5 minutes (prompt by tech support standards) and Wilma told me that I needed to download Windows Server 2008R2 "Add Printer Wizard" driver and I was able to get at least the printer working with the server. Setting up Fax server and scanning server is even more complicated. Scanning and fax functions are easy to set up with a USB connection.

How can you sell an ethernet and a Wi-Fi multifunction and not send the network drivers with the machine? There is hodgepodge of software available for this machine on Brother''s web site but without much explanation as to what the software does and which driver to use for which machine. It is hard to figure out what to download.

If you get faxes on the computer, then Brother saves them in TIFF file format, not PDF. But software CD that comes with the machine also comes with Paperport 12 SE which you can use to convert TIFF to PDF files, but it is just an extra step and a hassle.

Except for these glitches, Brother 8950DW is one of the fastest and least expensive print per page cost multifunction machines out there and can be a workhorse for a small business.

Compared to my old Brother 8840D, which I have been using for 8 years and still in good shape, 8950DW seems print twice as fast, and double-side printing as well as scanning are fast too. It is a little bit louder than 8840D but that is certainly not problem to me. One thing need to pay attention: at the very beginning I could not access the printer through WiFi even though I have successfully configured the WiFi network. Later I realized that it is the firewall (I''m using Bitdefender Total Securit"y 2013) that blocks the access. I had to disable "SNMP Status Enabled" checkbox from "Printer Properties" -> "Configure Port" -> "Port Settings" tab.

Works ok for very light duty, will jam with anything heavier than HP''s everyday photo paper. I''ve had many printers over the years lots of them from HP and this is the first one that won''t do envelopes. Jams every time. Feels really plasticky and cheap. You have to pull the whole tray out to replace the paper and it feels like you''ll break it just putting it back in. You get what you pay for and in this case it''s not much.

Buy HP Officejet Pro 8100 ePrinter - N811a/N811d Now

I got a brand new HP Officejet Pro 8100 tonight. A $99 printer that does duplex (two-sided) printing in color-what''s not to love?

Well, a printer is only useful if it prints. And this one won''t even do that. After half an hour setting up software, connecting to my home wifi, etc, I get an error when I try to print my first test page: "Print head appears to be missing, not detected, or incorrectly installed." I''ve giggled it. I have, as HP''s online support suggests, tried removing the print head and putting it back in again. I have tried removing the ink cartridges and putting them back in again. No dice.

So, yeah. Totally worthless. This will be going back in the morning, and getting my money back. If a brand new one doesn''t work, why would I want a replacement?

Start-up inks were not detected. Bought $130 worth of new inks locally and they did not work.

called support and they said it was defective. Seems like a great printer, HP really needs to ditch these startup inks, charge a couple bucks more and put the real carts in. In this case the whole printer needed to be returned. went to local office store and that 8100 fired right up.

Absolutely LOVED this product. I bought 2 different brands for testing and can''t imagine even trying the other! The directions were very clear and the final product (pillow case with pictures of my grand-daughter) is absolutely perfect!! The colors are very precise and the fabric has a perfect feel/texture to it. I will be re-ordering for future projects. Thank you!

I purchased the Inkjet Printable Cotton Fabric to make a gift for my sister. I scanned an old photo of us onto it... it worked great! Then made a small pillow out of it... she loved it! Next I will scan old photos and make quilts or whatever with the printed fabric. I highly recommend it!

I was feverishly looking for a product that I could use to put appliques of pictures onto quilts for our Veterans and Wounded Warriors. This Transfer Sheet has worked wonderfully for this application.

I had used a different product in the past and had been very pleased with the results. However, I read many good reviews on the VV Inkjet Printable Cotton Fabric and decided to give it a try. I could never get the color kelly green to come out in the right hue. It was very disappointing and I eventually went back to my previous product. I''m not sure if I can mention the name of the other product, so I won''t. But, I won''t be recommending or using this product again.

Brother Printer MFCJ425W Wireless Color Photo Printer Save 4% off

Brother Printer MFCJ425W Wireless Color Photo Printer with Scanner, Copier and Fax
  • Easy to setup wireless (802.11b/g/n) networking
  • Unattended fax, copy or scan using up to 20-page ADF
  • 1.9" color LCD display for easy menu navigation
  • Fast print speeds:- up to 33 ppm black and 26 ppm color (Fast mode)- up to 10 ppm black and 8 ppm color (ISO standard)
  • Vivid, borderless photo printing up to 6000 x 1200 dp±

Printer works as advertised. With the wireless function, not only can you print wirelessly, but when you scan, it automatically detects your computer (if you have more than one, the LCD allows you to choose which one to send it to). Unpackaging and setup are quick and easy.

The CD contains all the software that you need. When you start the setup, be patient. Sometimes it will be installing something in the background but will give you no indications. I know that at one point I went three minutes when it seemed like nothing was going to happen, another install screen popped up.

When completing the "wireless setup" on the printer via USB, the software will try and use your network settings to find what network the printer should connect to. This makes it easy as you don''t have to enter your SSID and network key. If it needs you be on another network, it has the option to manually enter it. It also allows for you to set-up a static IP.

The printer allows you to setup how long until it "goes to sleep". It will automatically wake-up when you send something to the printer.

Colors look good. After you install the print cartridge, it takes about 5 minutes of cleaning.

The printer is a bit noisy when it is printing, but I like that as I can tell from another room if the printer is actually printing without having to get up and look. When it is asleep it makes absolutely no noises.

All in all, the printer is nice and works very well. It fits perfectly on one of my tables. I will update my review as I continue to use the printer.

This is mainly in response to the review that said it took the printer a long time to reset between each page of a scan or copy. I just tried my new printer and it pumps out the copies as fast as it reads them in using the ADF no delays. I know what he means the printer is constantly chick chicking away between print jobs and I think the doc says it can do that in the middle of the night (so don''t unplug this machine) all to keep up good print quality, which so far is GREAT. I''m selling my HPs and have this and a DCP-J125 from Brother all in hopes of reliable printing with ability to use generic cartridges. I was pulling my hair out with HP in that dept and refuse to pay so much for HP cartridges, PERIOD. So this machine so far prints, copies and scans well and I got the fax to work inbound and outbound using our Ooma VOIP system (just have to do *99 before outgoing fax number). Haven''t tried wireless yet as we connect our other PCs via the house network which works great after you ''share'' this printer. This is a huge printer though wish it was smaller. I love that this does easier duplex than the DCP-J125, and this printer does booklet printing all very valuable. Check out LC-75 cartridges at ldproducts.com.

Update: I originally installed this with USB cable to home desktop that worked fine with the "home network"/shared printer setup. This past weekend I reinstalled to take advantage of wireless for two reasons 1) don''t have to walk up or downstairs to turn the PC it was connected to "on", 2) use the Iphone app. I just reinstalled and followed the instructions (infrastructure setup I believe) and it connected fine wirelessly to my desktop could fax and scan as well. It appears you have to install the whole (big) MFL Suite on each laptop. I did that on my Vista laptop and got 2 "specified port does not exist" errors tried adding some ports per the instructions but got that error three times. I could see the printer in "Network" and right click and get its IP address. There is, in All Pgms / Brother / MFCJ425W folder an uninstall pgm that I used each time also installing it again seems to do some uninstalling to begin with. Couldn''t get around that error and couldn''t choose the wireless printer when I went to print. Call Brother they sent me the "solution" which is basically "good luck". Googled network printer problem and found some info followed that to "add printer" / Wireless or Network / Don''t See Printer I Want and then used the IP address to add the printer. That went fine and all of a sudden there it was and could be used... Then I went to daughter #1''s Win 7 machine that installed no problems and works. Then told daughter #2 about the Iphone app she can work on that....

Very happy with our purchase. User friendly setup, takes maybe 10-15 minutes but no problems. The wireless option allows you to print from your computer in one room to the printer in another room. Highly recommended.

Want Brother Printer MFCJ425W Wireless Color Photo Printer Discount?

Printer arrived quickly and was exactly as stated. We have several laptops in the house and 2 desktops so the wireless function is a big +. It is not at all complicated to hook up and install on each computer as long as you follow the instructions precisely. You MUST bring each computer to the printer or the printer to each computer and allow the computer to recognize the printer via a USB cable first. If your computer does not recognize the printer automatically then you must install the printer as a USB printer first using the drivers provided on the installation disk. Then install the software sweet and select wireless install. Additionally you must set up the wireless network on the printer first. You will need to know the wep key (or password) for your router and the dns(domain name server). Once all this is done (about 10 minutes) the printer works perfectly from any room in the house. In my case the printer is hard lined into one computer and accessed via wireless connection for all the other computers. The printer is fairly quiet and quick to respond to commands. I would definatly recommend this printer for it''s price and functions.

I would also recommend you get ink cartridges from Amazon. You can get a ten pack of color and black high yield 75 page cartridges for around $15.00. Or you can get a 20 pack for around $25.00. You are not going to see that price @ your local office supply or wally-wierd store. Just search for LC-75 in the search pane from Amazon''s home page.

While I love technology, I had been using a HP Deskjet 5150 for nine years. The problem is for the past several years a supported Mac driver was no longer offered, so I had to use drivers for other printers that caused issues. Thus, my decision to finally spring for a new printer.

There was a lot to choose from. However, this Brother MCF-J425W stood out as an exceptional value. I also considered a professional Brother model that printed 11x17 sized images, but the footprint of the device and height was too tall for my desk area. This unit, while still larger than some units, fit in my tight space.

Motivation for purchase and Pros:

1) The brother ink cartridges do not have the ink head nor a computer chip. This makes it possible for third parties to reproduce the cartridges at insanely low prices as seen on Amazon. With other brands, you have to have remanufactured cartridges if you want to save money (essentially refilled). These refilled cartridges quality varies dramatically and the results are usually not worth the hassle/savings. Therefore, your price per print on Brother (which is easy to get good third party ink) can come out insanely low compared to say HP where you probably want to stick with OEM ink.

2) Wireless features. Yes, most printers in this category are wireless now. It was easy to setup and I quickly downloaded and updated the firmware on the printer to utilize Apple''s Air Print from my iPhone and iPad. Works fine. Wish you could change settings on the phone and iPad though. I have no idea what setting it uses when you print from a phone or tablet? Maybe "normal?" The other major wireless feature is Brother''s own free application from the app store that lets you print and more impressively scan documents right from the phone. Therefore, if you have the printer setup away from computers and whatnot, do all the scanning work right on your phone or iPad via the brother App! Pretty cool, though I personally have limited use for that.

3) Price. With the instant savings that come and go, this product was cheap to say the least.

Observations & Disappointments upon arrival and use:

1) Print Speed They quote numbers better than my 2003 HP printer, but it feels slower. It will take 10-15 seconds just to start printing and if you want Normal with color, it''s not too fast printing either. I''ve found grayscale copies on "Normal" setting are acceptable speed, though not fast. Grayscale copies on "High," is annoying slow, and on "Best," it''s impossibly slow.

2) Print Quality This relates back to speed. Don''t even bother with "Fast/Draft," unless it''s something you are going to throw away soon and were just proofing. Fast/Draft documents are ugly on this machine, unlike my nine year old HP. I don''t even want to read a draft on it. The letters are all pixelated and horrible looking on this fast setting. I refuse to use the fast setting. I think "Normal," is closer to what draft was on my HP. I cannot tell a difference between "High," and "Best," for text, so on the most important report, paper, or business document I would use "High." Less important day to day things, "Normal," will probably be ok. Too bad that "high," will take so long. Finally, there is suppose to be an "Ink save," feature that only outlines images when printing a fast/draft, but this setting seems unavailable on Mac. This could be made clearer.

3) Scanning. Scanning works fine and if you''re on OS X, the built in drivers or the ones you download from Apple.com work perfect. I can scan right from the Mac without problem.

4) Faxing is pretty straightforward though there are many advanced settings, so be careful.

5) No duplexing. More and more printers offer duplexing today. I know this is an entry range wireless, but I would have really liked to have duplexing. In the real world though, I guess I might not use duplexing that much even if I had it.

6) Paper Tray The paper tray must be nearly completely removed from the printer to add paper. It holds just shy of 100 standard sheets of paper. While it''s not horrible to replace normal paper (100 sheets will last me a while), it''s mind bogglingly frustrating to swap paper, envelopes, and photo paper. It''s just too involved, the paper tray is too clunky, to do a swap quickly. I do print envelopes at least monthly, so I find this frustrating.

7) Photo Printing This is not something I had planned to do with the printer as for so many years I had not had much interest. However, with the excitement of a new printer, I got out some old HP photo paper and got going! Wow. There is something about seeing your photographs on glossy photo paper. It''s more satisfying than on the computer screen or uploaded to the HD television. I printed several 4x6 and one 8 1/2 x 11 photo. Wow. The 8 1/2 x 11 photo is impressive to me, just seeing a photo that size in hand. Now, the quality. I can''t say exactly. The quality is VERY GOOD. I wouldn''t call it perfect or striking, but very nice indeed. I would love to compare the quality to other photo printers. This might just peak a renewed interest in photo printing for me. It''s fun. Now, photo printing is very slow too, but that doesn''t bother me because we''re talking about high resolution photographs and of course photos are slow. The 4x6 in photo or best mode seemed fairly quick though. The 8 1/2 x 11 in best mode took about ten minutes. Again, this doesn''t bother me. Printing a two page black and white report that takes one minute bothers me.

Overall, the feature set of the printer for the price makes it highly attractive. The price of third party ink (used at your own risk) and wireless features are fantastic.

The biggest drawback for me is the print speed. It just feels slow especially the time between clicking print and the actual beginning to print. The second drawback is the print quality. You have to use a higher setting for acceptable quality compared to other printers, which slows the speed down even more. The third major drawback is the paper tray. It''s a headache to use compared to my old HP that had most of the paper tray exposed, ready to adjust and swap stock. The final drawback is lack of duplexing. Recommended product, but realize its drawbacks and limitations before deciding. The true rating should be around 3.5 stars.

Most people that have bought a Lexmark before know that Lexmark uses the "Buy this printer cheap and then buy lots of really expensive cartridges from us for it''s life." approach.

In this case, that worked for me for a couple of reasons: 1) It came with 2 free cartridges that would have cost me the same with or without the printer(so, it really was like "buy 2 cartridges get a free printer") and 2) This model is actually one of Lexmark''s better buys for cartridges and features.

I''ve previously owned Canon, HP and Epson printers, as well as the LexMark x2420 and x2580 all-in-ones. The Lexmarks were wonderful, except for how fast those expensive cartridges ran out of ink! This one has even better features than those previous ones and is a better value overall. (That is, as long as you buy the High-Yield Ink Cartridges available for this model. These cartridges are marked XL and for only a few dollars more deliver nearly triple the printed pages of the regular #36/#37 cartridges this model takes. SPECIAL NOTE: If you don''t use these this model will be a horrible long-term value!) For some reason, Amazon won''t let me post the link that shows you a comparison of average printed pages per cartridge for the various Lexmark All-In-One models. But, if you''re interested in that and the potential longer term cost ramifications you can find it on the Lexmark site.

Anyway, for this model, set-up took 10 minutes on my Vista driven computer. (But, make sure you have a USB cord it doesn''t come with one). I''ve found the print quality to be quite good. It also has lots of features to help you print less and more accurately (print quality selection, print black only capability, helpful software for adjusting your document based upon what your printing including a nice feature that helps print web pages with just the info you want). The scanner, fax and copy features are easy and intuitive to use, as is printing pictures (though I don''t use it much for this).

BOTTOM LINE: All in all, I think this is a great buy for home/home office use, easy to use with plenty of versatility and a decent overall value.

I didn''t expect much at this low price. Even so, I was excited to get an all-in-one unit that could scan legal size documents and had a 25 page sheet feeder for scanning! Sadly, I couldn''t get it to scan legal, nor could I use the sheet feeder without it jamming constantly. When the sheet feeder didn''t jam (which it did 90% of the time), it only scanned part of the page (sometimes as little as one inch).

It''s a borderline noisy, slow printer and the print quality for regular text is quite mediocre. For photos, the print quality is sharp but the color is off. I suspect this is because I used the two ink cartridges (one black, one color) that it came with instead of replacing the black with a designated photo cartridge. Probably it prints quite nicely for photos if a designated photo cartridge is used.

On the bright side, the scanning quality (as long as you don''t sheet feed and don''t go over A4 size) is excellent. The copier works very well. Also, the OCR software it comes with (ABBYY) is the most accurate I''ve ever used.

I didn''t attempt to use the fax features before returning it.

I got this printer because of the great price. I bought it about 6 months ago and I was shocked the other day that it already broke(It keeps jamming the paper because it is pulling the paper in at an angle). After awhile on the phone with customer service I was very relieved to know that they would send me a replacement since it is within the one year. Therefore, I will give this product a 3 and hope that I have better luck with the next one.

I bought this printer to use for banner printing of strip-logs, which it did fine for about one year. One day it said "carrier jam" and no longer printed and I could not get the error message to go away. Customer service confirmed that the printer was broken, but older than 1 year and no longer under warranty. If you do buy this printer and you do a lot of printing, I recommend buying the high capacity ink cartridgesthey are much more expensive but they last 4-5 times longer than the standard cartridges.

I would get any printer other than this printer multiple negatives

first month printer stopped working to Lexmark credit they did ship a replacement and this is where the first problem developed the software puts the specific printer on your computer removed the broken printer and installed replacement on computer this has been a constant issue in that the old printer that is no longer there keeps coming back and blocking the new printer ( no matter how many times you remove it it will return

Problems with the replacement

1) uses ink faster than any printer I have ever owned

2) ink cartridge is about the highest priced one on the ink aisle

3) printer will suddenly decides that you have asked to delete a print job (you haven''t ) and it will lock up saying ''deleting" and locks up in this function the only way out is to completely bring computer down and then back up,

4) printer has an energy saving feature that powers down the printer after like 10 seconds if you are going to print anything have this printer close enough to just reach over and turn it back on printer powers up when computer turned ongoing straight to page you want to print printer will have already gone into power saving mode and you have to hit the appropriate button again,

5) cartridges for this printer also tend towards having problems out of about 5 cartridges 3 would not work when first installed had to take adhesive remover and repeatedly rub over area where strip is placed to get ink to start flowing,

Have had this printer less than 6 months and am currently looking for a replacement as fast as possible.

Brother HL-5250DN Network Ready Laser Printer with Duplex

Brother HL-5250DN Network Ready Laser Printer with Duplex
  • Network-ready monochrome printer ideal for small workgroups
  • Built-in duplex feature easily prints 2-sided documents
  • Up to 30 ppm with a resolution of up to 1200 x 1200 dpi
  • Built-in Ethernet network interface brings workgroup together
  • Dimensions: 14.6 x 9.7 x 15.1 in. (WxHxD); weighs 21.6 pounds
  • Dimensions: 14.6 x 9.7 x 15.1 in. (WxHxD), weighs 21.6 pounds

I purchased this printer because I wanted something cheaper to run than my HP Deskjet (toner is much cheaper than ink), I wanted to be able to print from multiple computers and put the printer anywhere I wanted (instead of being tethered to a specific computer), I wanted the printer to be Mac-compatible, and I wanted the printer to have a duplexer to save on paper (it prints on both sides of the page). This was the only printer in its price class I could find that had all of these features. I bought the printer on sale locally and got it for a good price.

I ran into one problem, which is why I''m only giving this printer only 4 stars. After I hooked it up and installed the software, I noticed that as soon as it went to sleep, it would no longer print. It''s supposed to wake up when it gets a print job, but it wouldn''t. I finally figured out that I needed to upgrade the network firmware from the Internet. For someone like me with experience as a PC technician, this was no problem, but I think the installation software should guide you through checking to see if everything is up to date, and help you upgrade the firmware.

The paper tray only holds 300 pages, which is less than a ream of paper. At 30 pages per minute, you could run out of paper in only 10 minutes! So it may not be the ideal printer for all but the smallest office settings (but still better than an inkjet for b&w printing). However, I believe you can add an additional paper tray, and there are other models with extra paper capacity built-in.

When I ran into my problem with sleep mode interfering with printing, I e-mailed Brother''s technical support (they don''t give you a number you can call), but I don''t think a human actually reads your e-mail. It was pretty frustrating. Next time I''ll try calling their customer service line and see if they can transfer me to tech support.

I have this printer and I am very happy with it. It performs exactly as advertised, and it is very fast.

I''d like to clarify the power supply issue that so many reviewers have commented on.

First of all, this problem is NOT limited to users who plug their printer into the UPS. Many UPSes will detect the line voltage drop caused by this printer as a brownout and go online to protect the attached equipment. This happens even when the printer is plugged directly into the wall (as it should be). This is not just a matter of reading the instructions, it is a real problem.

Whether or not you see this problem in practice depends on a number of factors, including whether the printer is plugged into the same circuit as your UPS, whether you have 15 or 20A service, how far the printer is from the breaker panel, how old your wiring is, whether your UPS has undervoltage regulation or not, etc.

When this printer is heating up and printing, I have seen power draws of 900+ watts and voltages around 104 volts on recent 15A residential wiring. This did not cause my UPS to go online, however it is equipped with undervoltage regulation. Many UPSes would go online at this voltage. In any case, your mileage may vary.

On a completely different note, one small drawback compared with the model it replaces (HL-5140) is that it no longer has a straight through paper path for thicker paper or envelopes to prevent curling.

I first saw this printer at the MacWorld Expo and I was impressed by its output, its networkability, and its price. I literally bought one the next day to replace my old HP Laserjet 4M which was finally becoming erratic.

I''ve been very pleased in almost all respects, with just a few minor criticisms. On the one hand, it is quiet and unobtrusive in energy-saver mode. On the other, when it is sleeping there is no indication that it is still on, short of looking at the on/off button. See what I mean by minor? I didn''t run into the power supply issues that another reviewer had complained about.

The duplex function is handy and works well, which is something I can''t say about my other printer, an HP Officejet 7310xi All-in-one, which came with a duplexer and a little notice saying that you have to do duplexing manually. The Brother''s duplex function can be set as the default, which may have inadvertantly been the case where another reviewer griped about it doing the duplex shuffle, even for a single page. I''ve not had that problem.

The only aspect that has given me a bit of trouble has been trying to print files directly from Adobe InDesign CS with clear (not screened) type. Whether it is the Brother''s emulation of Postscript or its PPD or some mismatch between it and InDesign, I''ve not yet figured out, but I''ve had to do a workaround of exporting a PDF and printing from that. (And then only after turning off the "Brother Photo" mode in the Print Settings which seems to be the default for some reason.) For printing from MS Word or the Web, the printer has been speedy and flawless.

So, the InDesign matter aside (for which I dock it one star), it is nifty printer for the price.

I spent a few months looking at laser printers and I was convinced that HP was the way to go... However, after comparing the features and the price I was totally sold on the Brother 5250DN. For 250$ you get networking, duplexing, almost instant-on printing, and 30 pages a minute. With HP printers you would pay a whole lot more to get the same features.

My first impression of the printer was that it was utilitarian at best. There is no LCD display, only two simple buttons and a few LED lights on the control panel. Since I''m a gadgety-kinda-guy I wanted a printer with an LCD screen and some other cool things on it. I quickly ignored the lack of the LCD screen when I saw how nicely the printer worked. After printing just a few documents I was totally sold on the quality of this machine. Everything that I print looks flawless and razor-sharp. I started to enjoy the way the printer was designed even more... don''t let the outward simplicity deceive you! Also, since the printer is almost cube-like, there aren''t any protruding paper-trays or other pieces to make placement awkward.

One of my favorite features is a button combination that you can press (I think you have to hold down the ''Go'' button for 3 seconds-check the manual) to re-print whatever you had just printed. This has come in handy a few times since the printer is downstairs and, if I suddenly realize that I need another copy, I can print it without having to walk upstairs to my computer and resend the print job. Also, if you want to print more than one copy you can, you hold ''Go,'' release it, then press it the number of times that you want reprints made. It''s a handy little feature that I found while reading the manual.

Also, while I haven''t done this yet, the printer uses common SDRAM for its memory upgrade module, not some expensive, proprietary memory. I''m not sure if this is a common practice but it definately made sense and I applaud Brother for choosing to use something generic and consumer friendly.

The network sharing took me a little to figure out, but after installing the Brother network manager the printer worked much better. At first it would totally drop print jobs since I had Windows interfacing with the printer directly. Now, after installing the Brother network software and printing to the BNT port, every print job is handled successfully.

I''ve had the printer since January (so coming up on six months), and 780 pages later this printer is still performing wonderfully. I''ve never had a paper jam or a bad quality print. The 5250DN just sits there patiently waiting for me to give it something to do, and I never have to worry about clogged nozzles or poor quality output. I have noticed that it draws quite a bit of power initially (I can tell when the printing starts because the lights in my house flicker ever so slightly). The printer is quiet overall, it just makes a nice humming noise as it is working and it spits out pages like you wouldn''t believe.

The Brother 5250DN is the perfect low-maintenance printing solution and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a laser printer. I would definately buy from Brother again.

I ordered this printer to print double-sided reports which were 150 sheets. I used a heavier paper (24/60lb txt) but not what I would consider unusual paper for a report. The duplexer has to turn the paper so tightly that it curls it. Add the heat of the machine, the paper becomes permanently bowed. Even after weighing the paper down with heavy books, the paper flattened a bit but was wavy. This might not be noticeable on a small report, but when you stack over 100 pages, it looks like the report got watersoaked! It was also impossible to tamp the pages to get them even on the edge.

Otherwise the printer worked fine right out of the box. The print quality was nice and it was fast. You just have to keep the duplexing to a minimum or perhaps only 20 lb text.

Epson C12C890191 Stylus Pro Ink Maintenance Tank Save 14% off

Epson C12C890191 Stylus Pro Ink Maintenance Tank
  • Replacement ink maintenance tank
  • Compatible with Epson Stylus Pro 4000, 4800, 7800, 7880, 7900, 9800, 9880, 9900, and 11880

The ink tank for the 4800/7800/9800 is a simple plastic box filled with paper absorbent. Thirty five bucks is way too much to pay for such a simple device. You can "refurbish" the tank with a roll of toilet paper. Remove the lid from the tank, remove the cardboard tube in the center of the roll and cut the toilet tissue in half with a bread knife. The two halves will just about fill the box to recreate the absorbent. Here''s the kicker. The printer reads a chip on the tank and remembers the last two tanks, and maybe more. It will not let you reinsert and reuse a recently used tank even if it has been "refurbished". If you have a buddy with the same printer you can switch refurbished tanks to fool the printer.

I was nervous when the right-side maintenance tank on my Epson 9900''s warning light came on 90% full. I had no idea what a maintenance tank was or how difficult it was to change it, but the Epson 9900 guide does warn that if one of the maintenance tanks become completely full, the machine will cease to print. I ordered the part from Amazon, double-checking the tank model #, which should be compatible with my machine. It was delivered quickly. I was amazed how easy it was to change, it just slides right in and out of the machine. Tip to extend the life of your maintenance tank if you have an Epson 9900 or similar model that has a left and right tank, the right tank will fill a LOT faster then the left one, so when you notice the right tank at around 50%, swap the left and right tanks. Also, this tank works on both the right and left sides, they are cross-compatible, so you not need to keep a left-tank and right-tank around, just one backup maintenance tank will be fine, you can use it in either side.

There is not much to this in tank, but you since Epson is the only one who makes it, they can charge a massive profit for it. Amazon is probably the cheapest place to get it though. You can take out the filled absorbent fibers and use lots of tissue or paper towels until you get a new one. But you can''t reset the maintenance tank on the printer from what I know.

First off, I upgrade from a Epson Stylus Color 440 which didn''t function right with current built system.

I purchased this printer from Costco Wholesale. They have a liberal return policy and I wanted to make sure I got a good printer. And I got a store rebate to boot.

I noticed right away that the printer was really quiet. I could not hear it print while the tv was on. I found the print quality was excellent. I printed test page using an entry from the thefreedictionary.com. There was no skipped lines in the color areas. Letters were finely printed. I printed a picture to standard paper and the printer did not print any lines in the graphic.

I did run into an problem though. Before each color page, it would print some sort of test page. I contacted HP support. They told me to unplug printer from computer. While HOLDing Power Botton, press Resume (aka Paper Feed) 4 times, and RELEASE Power Button. This will print a hardware test page with an errors. This fixed my problem and it didn''t show any errors. ''Alexis'' from HP Live Support at HP.com was the support technician.

I have purchased several HP printers over the past 12 years, been perfectly satisfied with all, but can say without a doubt that the HP Deskjet 5940 is an absolute piece of junk. I made the mistake of purchasing it directly from HP and they refuse to refund my money or send me a new printer. The best they could offer me was to send a refurbished version of the same model. The problem with accepting a refurbished unit, is that it doesn''t address the problem that there is an engineering defect with the printer itself. The problem lies in the fact that the paper feeding mechanism fails to accept the paper no matter how many times you try. The only way to get the paper to cycle correctly through the feeding mechanism, is to press an arrow on the printer itself, after a warning window opens up on your desktop indicating that the paper is not loaded properly. I think that I know how to load paper properly, so the fact that no matter what I do, this printer fails to work properly is a pretty good indication that their is a design flaw in the model itself. Reading some of the other comments on Amazon, it becomes obvious that such a design flaw exists. When I called HP customer support, after being placed on hold for 40 minutes, I was finally connected to a representative from India. Now, while I wish that American companies would stop outsourcing customer service to India, I understand that in order to save money they simply have no choice. The problem with my call, was that after someone finally answered the phone, it was virtually impossible for me to understand what they were saying. Finally, after going through the route of switching from one person to another, they connected me with someone who spoke fluent English, and as mentioned the only thing they would offer to do is to send me the exact same model, only refurbished. Knowing that the refurbished unit would pose exactly the same problem, I told them that I would pass on their offer and now am stuck with a printer that I will likely end up throwing in the garbage. BUYER BEWARE, DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER. IT IS A PIECE OF JUNK AND HAS AN ENGINEERING DEFECT! If you do go ahead and purchase the printer, you are asking for trouble and will undoubtedly end up discarding it, as I am about to do.

Update: HP finally offered to replace my printer with a new one. Ironically, the replacement printer was manufactured only a few weeks ago, while the original one that I had purchased directly from HP had been manufactured almost a year ago, or 8 months before I bought it. Apparently, HP has been made aware that the Deskjet 5940 had a faulty paper feeding mechanism and they have recently fixed the problem. My new one works just fine. My advice if purchasing this printer would be to make sure that the date of manufacture is after May 2006. You should have no problems if you purchase one made after that date. If you purchased one that was made prior to that date, and you are having problems with the paper feeding mechanism, call HP to arrange for them to replace it free of charge.

Let me start this review by saying that I am a fan of Canon Bubble jet printers. You can read my review of the Canon i960 if you''re looking for a top drawer photo printer. That said, I bought this mighty little HP to "supplement" my i960. Why, you ask? Read on!

I''d been happily printing photo quality prints and text on my i960-UNTIL-I got bit in the a** by Mac OS X Tiger. "Ohhh, just upgrade your system to Tiger" purred the Mac Elitist. Not wanting to be left behind growling, I plunked down some money to upgrade my G4 Quicksilver to Tiger from OS X Panther. That was one of the stupidest upgrades moves I''ve ever made. Frankly, myself and a lot of other Mac users got mauled by Tiger. besides being slow as a pig, Tiger killed all of my canon print drivers. Worse than that, it will not allow you to re-install the canon OSX drivers! All you have to choose from are some crummy GIMP print drivers from 4 years back. They should take the entire "Tiger" OS X team and toss them into a cage with a hungry Big Cat!

So after 3 frustrating days I was out searching for an affordable inkjet photo printer that would work with this Mangy Feline now stuck on my ''puter. Enter the Deskjet 5940. Looks nice with the silver finish. Small footprint for my cramped cage. The ability to use photo inks, black only, or normal color tritone CMY inks is a huge plus. The canon i960 is a phenomenal photo printer, but blasts through Photo Cyan and Photo Magenta ink like mad. The HP promises to be much cheaper to operate for everyday work. HP kindly provides a USB cable, AND Mac instructions! Yee-Hah!

The big question was, would the HP printer drivers tame Tiger? The hookup was easy. I''m not used to the front loading paper stash, but it works easily enough. WARNING: If you print on premium photo paper like Ilford Galerie, the HP needs you to load the print side face down! Once I established this, it was OK. So does it work with the Mangy Mac Tiger OS? Yes! Not only that, HP''s driver gives you lots of options for paper surfaces and dithering....surprisingly even more than Canon.

I''m a photographer by trade and by nature. So when I ran a high quality photo print on Somerset Enhanced Velvet, I was very impressed with HP 5940''s performance. Clean whites, no bleeding, great color fidelity, and superb contrast. And this is only with the normal CMY ink set. The Vivera Photo ink promises to work even better.

My major complaint with the HP driver is that under "Paper Type" it is weighted to anything with the HP label on it. What the Heck IS "HP Photo Everyday" anyway? No matter, with a bit of guessing, you can print beautifully on just about any photo paper out there.

So now I have a printer that works with OS X Tiger and actually will be cheaper to operate than my canon i960 (which now resides on an iMac DV running-OS X PANTHER).

The HP was my first ever product from a company I used to deride. Now I''m singing the praises of this cheap but superb little Swiss Army Knife printer. That is when I''m not cursing the pinheads in Cupertino CA......

Want HP Deskjet 5940 Photo Printer (C9017A#B1H) Discount?

The paper feed is a nightmare. When it runs out of paper, it takes multiple attempts to get it to start feeding paper correctly again. It won''t pick up the paper or it feeds multiple sheets at once. It jams constantly. I''d like to do an "Office Space" to it.

They don''t have a -5 or even zero star rating so 1 is all I can stand.

Obviously HP has marketing types posing as 6th graders trying to keep thier review #''s up by posing as such. The first review was unbelievable (my companies marketing guys could have hidden it better and they are morons!). The second review was just plain goofy..."I''m reviewing my brother''s printer":p

Even 6th graders have a better way to spend their time.

The HP printer is barely worth the ink cartridge that comes with it. Which is the most expensive part. That aside, it wouldn''t have bothered me that much cause you get what you pay for. What bothers me most is the amount of DRIVER SPAM that you MUST install with the driver.

Installing the driver took about 20 minutes. Give me a flippin break. The standard USB driver for a printer should fit on a floppy disk. Heck, for this amount of money it should use class drivers. In addition to taking forever, it created a HPPP(D:) drive that consumes 500MB of disk space. Good thing I had all of 1G left...now I don''t and my machine is crawling along. Ironically the first button you see when you double click it is "Install more software". Egads, are these guys into the hard drive business as well as the INK business.

Bill Hewlett and David Packard would be sad to see how far their company has fallen.

HP beware. I can no longer suffer fools lightly. If you sell me something (which is highly unlikely unless you bring back good calculators and test equipment) that is useless junk I will review it to the end.

If you have ever used the "Easy Apply" labels in the past, you''ll be surprised to learn that Avery redesigned the "Easy Apply" label strips. I''m not sure why they did this, but the new format doesn''t fit the actual tabs on the dividers, so you''re left with approximately 2 millimeters of excess clear label hanging off the end of the divider. Okay, so you figure you can just stick them on manually, right? Well, that is much more difficult than the old format where you applied each label individually because of the "Easy Strip," which is designed to stick to the "Easy Apply" strip. Overall, I would STRONGLY advise any consumer AGAINST purchasing this product until Avery''s product development team redesigns the "Easy Apply" format, and who knows when that will be?

We printed out a bunch of wedding photos on Canon Platinum Pro paper first, but ran out with only a few to go, and the store only had the HP Premium Plus left. That''s when we first bought this, and we were amazed at how true the colors were reproduced on this paper compared to what we saw on our screen. We kind of wished we''d started with HP for a project this big, and have since ordered a bunch of it on Amazon. On the Canon paper, which we also like for its own reasons, we had to tweak the contrast and colors a little bit on some images, especially in darker shots. This paper was great with no image tinkering. Now, all of the Canon Papers described above come in 80lb stock and feel great in your hand. HP paper also comes in 80lb, but at times it was difficult to find some of the sizes in 80lb, and we had to buy their 75lb stock. The 75lb stock obviously feels less impressive in your hand, especially when you''re holding 80lb in the other. With HP''s different stocks so similarly named and packaged, take the time to examine the label before you buy and make sure you''re getting all one stock weight in the various sizes you need, if this matters to you. The 8.5" x 11" size of this product seems to be 75lb. This particular 5x7 paper being reviewed is 80lb, and we think it''s great.

I purchased two reams of this premium photo paper. Every sheet has printed beautifully. The packaging protects the paper during shipping. It is priced below other premium photo paper but I can''t see any difference in the quality of prints. Well worth your money!

Printworks 8 1/2 x 11 Inch T-Shirt Transfers 10 Sheets (00480)

Printworks 8 1/2 x 11 Inch T-Shirt Transfers 10 Sheets
  • 10 8.5-by-11-inch sheets per package
  • Works well on any cotton or cotton-blend fabric
  • Transfers through "cool peel" process
  • Countless creative application possibilities
  • A quality Burlington product

Some of the reviews that I''ve read here sound like they are for the "other" type of Printworks transfer sheets. This product is for use on white or light colored shirts. The other product is for use on dark colored shirts.

This stuff is great! It is the best of the "reverse print" transfer sheets for home use. We''ve tried several different products over the last 10 years, and this is what we now use exclusively, and have for many years.

Now, for the other stuff (the dark fabric product), there are certainly problems with it cracking, looking like having a plastic bag ironed on your shirt, etc. The Printworks product for dark colored shirts is best for very small images, and it works quite well if you keep that in mind.

However, this product works fine with full sized (8.5" x 11") images if you follow the directions provided (it always helps!). Five stars for sure, just remember that no transfer paper is ever as good as silkscreened shirts. This is great for home use.

This is a good product at a good price. Got a few tips tho. Do not expect things to work on first try prefectly be prepared to waste a t shirt or test the paper on a pillow case. Cut close to the edge not right on or else it doesn''t adhear properly causing it to wash off. Yellow oust side means you burnt it. All in all good product to try.

Burlington Iron-on transfers are exactly what you can expect from transfer papaer that is possibly the most inexpensive for its quantity.

The Goods:

-Easy to handle(good to go after one practice shirt)

-Will last a fair amount of time, if not washed too ofeten

-Color comparable to all other transfers out there

-Does not look as home made as some other tranfers can be

The Bads:

-If you wear your newly created shirt more 3 times or more a week, do not expect it to last more than a month without it being a crackly mess.

-Be cautious of over ironing the transfer image to shirt, will easily burn if you follow the directions.

-Cheap transfer material not as durable as some other higher priced transfers.

This paper is great for projects, simple to use, and inspiring. My problem with this product is that the transfer cracks after a few washings. I wouldn''t recommend it for t-shirts or any fabric that gets thrown in the washer/dryer frequently.

This basically glues a plastic sheet to your shirt with your design printed on the plastic. Wearing it feels like you might imagine it would, and it doesn''t survive washing very well, even if you wash it by hand very gently. The directions tell you to iron it for much longer than it can handle. If you do as you''re told, you''ll burn it.

HP PhotoSmart 325 Compact Photo Printer

HP PhotoSmart 325 Compact Photo Printer
  • Up to 4,800 x 1,200 optimized dpi color, 1,200 x 1,200 black
  • Color 4-by-6-inch photo as fast as 60 seconds
  • 1.5-inch color LCD to preview and select before printing
  • Simple one-touch buttons, slots for popular digital-camera memory cards
  • USB and PictBridge interfaces; PC and Mac compatible

I needed a photo printer that produced excellent pictures, was easy to use, and had a small footprint. The HP 325 Photosmart filled all of my needs. The photo quality is excellent and it takes up very little space. My wife isn''t exactly a techie, so I wanted a photo printer that was very easy to use. All she has to do is plug in her CF card, choose a picture, and hit print. No need for the computer. I can use Photoshop to adjust my pictures and then easily print photo quality 4x6''s. Highly recommended. The only drawback is the small screen size. You can pay $50 more for the next model up for a larger screen and a few more on-printer options though.

Printer has proven to be EXCELLENT as far as I have used it. Won it in a contest, so I''m not complaining. ;)

I have printed out some pictures and find the quality to be EXCELLENT. The speed of printing is also fast and the printer prints BORDERLESS photos (which is a handy feature).

As with any product there are a few cons.

1) Printer is a PHOTO printer. That means you won''t be printing out an 8X10s; you can only print 4X6 photos (but I''m expecting you know this already..)

2)Cable to hook to PC is *not* included. If you want to transfer pictures from your computer, don''t expect to get a cable with your printer. The cable is sold separately. However, a flash/USB drive will work perfectly.. Just plug the USB drive into your computer, stick the pictures on it, then plug the USB drive into your printer.

---------

The printer can recognize MANY different formats, SD cards, USB input devices (photo iPod, flash drive, etc..) Which is very convenient. It can also view the pictures straight from your camera (make sure it''s compatible, most are..)

If you''re looking to just print photos and want a light-weight and portable printer, this is the item for you!

I have had the 325 model for less than a year. Up until recently I was satisfied with its performance using it to print less than 5 pictures at a time. Recently, I needed to print a series of pictures (more than 10 in one sitting) and had an error message-print cartridge jam-I fixed the paper jam but continued to get the error message. I called HP and they stated this was a fatal error in the unit and encouraged me to purchase the updated model rather than fix my printer. I searched the internet for a solution only to find that others had encountered this and the solution was to purchase the "new''modelA not very cost effective solution as this was not supposted to be a disposable model.

I have owned the hp photosmart,325 ,for two months now. The machine is easy to use, compact, and portable. The battery is not included,!!nor is the printer cable.!!!the unit works well and i highly recommend it.!!!Please note if the printer cable and battery, had been inclued with this package!!!,I would have given this a 5 star rating.

I highly recommend this printer. I did plenty of research and came to the conclusion that this printer offers the best features for the price. The other HP model (HP 375) offers a photo preview screen but costs more. I saw a retail store rep print the same image on HP and Epson printers and the HP printers usually were faster with equal or better photo quality. My family has used this printer for a month now and it is so much fun. Great job HP!

I love the textures and colors of this paper, even though they are a bit brighter than the photo. The thickness gives it a weight wonderful for bookbinding, only thing that I don''t like is that it has a translucent quality making it a bit more like a vellum but, the effect is minor. What it does really well is feed through my printer, where I add custom graphics and print lines. Customers are very happy with the colors, they make the journals seem very expensive.
