Works ok for very light duty, will jam with anything heavier than HP''s everyday photo paper. I''ve had many printers over the years lots of them from HP and this is the first one that won''t do envelopes. Jams every time. Feels really plasticky and cheap. You have to pull the whole tray out to replace the paper and it feels like you''ll break it just putting it back in. You get what you pay for and in this case it''s not much.

I got a brand new HP Officejet Pro 8100 tonight. A $99 printer that does duplex (two-sided) printing in color-what''s not to love?

Well, a printer is only useful if it prints. And this one won''t even do that. After half an hour setting up software, connecting to my home wifi, etc, I get an error when I try to print my first test page: "Print head appears to be missing, not detected, or incorrectly installed." I''ve giggled it. I have, as HP''s online support suggests, tried removing the print head and putting it back in again. I have tried removing the ink cartridges and putting them back in again. No dice.

So, yeah. Totally worthless. This will be going back in the morning, and getting my money back. If a brand new one doesn''t work, why would I want a replacement?

Start-up inks were not detected. Bought $130 worth of new inks locally and they did not work.

called support and they said it was defective. Seems like a great printer, HP really needs to ditch these startup inks, charge a couple bucks more and put the real carts in. In this case the whole printer needed to be returned. went to local office store and that 8100 fired right up.
