The bonus here is the included negative scanner. I didn''t buy this from Amazon (sorry, someone else beat the price), but I am pleased with it.

The other reviewer (at this time) complained about the lack of usb cables--but I''m not entirely sympathetic. First, this is standard practice for Epson. If you didn''t know it wasn''t there, then you probably haven''t bought an Espon before this. Second, there is actually a good reason for this: most people are not buying a first printer at this point, and pretty much all cables are the same (as long the connectors fit, you''re good to use it). This cuts down on their costs, which hopefully means a slightly less expensive printer. I personally have 3 or four cables for this printer, and don''t want any more.

As far as quality goes--I don''t have any complaints. It does borderless (edge-to-edge) printing on cardstock (doesn''t support it on regular paper) without any problems, which is one of the things I look for in a printer. It also doesn''t show any banding or striping, which is good for printing photos.

Memory stick support is good (I have a Sony camera that uses Memory Stick), and works well.

Overall, a solid printer. As long as the print heads stay clean, I''ll be happy.

This printer, being my 4th one, is great! I started off with an Epson 740i on my Mac, went to a Lexmark Z52 (awesome talk feature), then went back to Epson for the CX5200. I had to part with that one because of a head problem, but this one is the best one so far! I love the borderless prints, and they look like you just visited the print shop! The scanning and the PictBridge (memory card/digital camera cards) are both very useful and it also includes a device for scanning negatives and slides! Although it doesn''t include a USB cable to hook it up to your computer, if you previously had a printer with a USB cable, then just use the previous USB cable that came with the previous printer. I used the one from the CX5200 (although short), it works great! Cartridges are slightly expensive, but a great machine for anyone needing a great all-in-one printer!

My first Epson Stylus the print heads went out 2 weeks before the warranty ran out (fortunately for me). Tech Support (my dime) was real helpful, sent me out a replacement Fed Ex and they didn''t want the old one returned to them. Because I only had a couple of weeks on the warranty, they explained that the warranty on the replacement would only be good for 30 days and they suggested I buy an extended warranty for $25, which I did. Replacement printer arrived and it was obviously a used, scratched up piece of work that didn''t work from the very beginning, and no ink to get it set up. It refused to take the paper in. Either got the Out of Paper code or Paper Jam code. There was paper loaded and it never even took the paper down in the printer to get it jammed. Called Tech Support (my dime) got an apology and they were sending out another replacement immediately Fed EX. They don''t want the old one back. What about that extended warranty? Well that''s transferable and all I had to do was call the warranty service and give them the new model number when it arrives. Next replacement arrives (no ink to get it set up). I call to transfer the model number and the support guy was rude, refused to let me transfer it, told me the person I talked to was wrong and I asked him to speak to a supervisor to help me get a solution to my problem. He was as high as I was going to go (said he). There was nothing I could do but purchase another extended warranty. I gave him the name and reference numbers of all the people I had spoken with and was told that he hadn''t heard of any of those people. I gave the phone number I''d called & spoke to them, he said there was no such number. When I informed him that it was the number I reached HIM at he said he never called himself at work so had no idea what the number was. The good news was, this was what got me turned over to a supervisor, "David." David was great, fixed me up, apologized to me and life was good. Until today. Once again this replacement printer refused to take the paper in and gives the same codes. I call Tech Support (my dime) the guy asked me the same question 12 times, repeated my answers 12 times and finally, after 35 minutes, I mention we weren''t getting anywhere could I speak to a supervisor. He suddenly kicks into gear and says because I''m under warranty they''ll send one out immediately Fed Ex all he needs is a credit card number to charge the replacement too and when I return the old one they''ll take it off my CC. I told him they''ve never done this before and I''ve never given anyone my CC info before. He insisted that this was how it is done and repeated that he needs the info and he''ll ship it right out. I tell him I won''t give out my CC information without speaking to a supervisor and he hangs up on me. I call tech support again (my dime) and get a real nice gal who''s very helpful I''m getting a replacement Fed Ex''d out immediately. I ask if it will come with ink and she assures me all their replacements come with full ink cartridges. She was sending me out a new used printer so I wasn''t going to fuss with her.

The time frame of this entire story? One year. Right now I have 3 dead Epson printers in my basement, 2 of them have full brand new ink cartridges in them. I suppose I''m going to tough out my extended warranty, I can''t wait to see what they send me next. Everyone I talked to had such heavy accents I can barely understand them, which makes the long distance call longer and the conversation is a communication struggle. Oh, and nobody knows who the heck "David" is. They all say there''s service centers in many areas so nobody knows the name of anyone anywhere else to confirm your information.

Never again will I buy any Epson product.

November 14, 2007-

Update on the on going nightmare of dealing with Epson. The replacement printer sent out on 4/9/07 is no longer working. Once again it refuses to take in the paper and gives the paper jam or no paper message and the 03 & 04 error codes. Once again I call Epson technical support, my dime. It took me all day to gear up for this experience because I know the frustration I''m in for. Once again I get a young man with a heavy accent (he says his name is Joey, his faux supervisor says his name is Neil), once again we go thru the endless repeating of questions, then repeating my answers. A new twist to the tech schpeel was after he had me try to make a copy of something, paper doesn''t get drawn down into the print area, just sits there, error message, "paper jam" on the screen, tech asks me to open the printer and clear the paper jam. I repeat that there is no paper jam because it never pulled the paper into the printer and we did the repeating of my answers 3 or 4 times. I''m put on hold for 3 minutes. A faux supervisor comes on to let me know that a replacement printer will be sent out Fed Ex as soon as I give him a credit card number to secure an order until I return the defective printer. We go thru the entire, "Why are you asking for my CC" argument and I''m told this is how replacements are handled. I explain that I have 3 dead Epson printers in my basement, never gave a credit card number before and we spend another 20 minutes discussing my warranty and that it''s always required to get a credit card number. Well, always except for the other 3 dead Epsons in my basement. I won''t bore you with the frustration of the entire 1 hour & 17 minute phone call (my dime) the good news is, "Nick" the faux supervisor acknowledges that in my records there is indeed a David and I do indeed have an extended warranty through November of 2008. The bad news is I''m getting yet another refurbished replacement printer, I did give a CC number, I''m speaking to the Philipines this time, but the warehouse shipping my 4th refurbished printer is in Long Beach, CA. I''ve had this relationship with Epson since November of 2005. Since my warranty doesn''t expire until 2008 I''m guessing I''ll be talking to heavily accented men from all over the world at least 2 more times and receiving at least 2 more refurbished printers from Long Beach, CA. These printers only have a lifespan of 6-12 months. I can prove it.

Before I buy another printer I''d like to interview the customer support department.

This is the 2nd time I had this printer. First time it broke within 6 months, and it was still under warranty, so I got a replacement. The new one again malfunctioned after 6 months. The prints came out with lines, and certain colored text only show up in pieces, even after repeated head-cleaning and with brand new ink cartridges. I''m dissappointed with the quality of the Epson products and would hesitate buying anything by Epson.

Bought this all-in-one and with the rebate, which is incredible for the features. If you follow the set up instructions to a tee (not hard), this unit works great from the get-go. I am very impressed with the print quality. This computer does not require techno-freaks to figure it out, which is a big plus, and in our case, installation was a breeze. I haven''t had it long, but can tell you I have always had great luck with Epson, and it looks like they have done a great job on a printer that compares favorably with much more expensive models from other manufacurers.
