From time out of the box to time printing was about 15 minutes. It would have been 10 minutes except that I misunderstood one instruction during the wireless installation. A message comes up after entering your SSID network information that seems to suggest that all physical cables to the printer need to be disconnected at that time. Actually the USB must stay connected because information still needs to be sent to the printer by the USB cable. So wait until the message comes up that specifically states that the USB cable must now be disconnected, and it should all go well. I will also say that there is one window in which you type your network encryption key, but the entry box does not highlight as other boxes do. So that is confusing because it looks like this box will not accept any entry, but it does.

Because there is some ambiguity in the instructions, I''m taking off one star. I think the installation may not be easy for everyone to follow, but if you have installed other devices that use network encrytion, you will probably get it to all work on your first or second try.

The physical appearance of the printer is very nice. I like the ridged sides that let you pick it up and move it without feeling like it will slip out of your hands. All of the controls are on the top. I wish that there was a power led on the front panel so it can be seen from across the room.

The printer holds half of a ream. If using 8.5 x 11 paper, you have to lengthen the paper tray, which then sticks out of the back of the printer. It is not a significant amount, but do keep this in mind when you look at the dimensions of the printer itself. This is especially true if you are setting it up for legal size paper.

The printer comes with a USB cable, which is unusual these days, but a good thing to have immediately on hand. Good job Samsung! Also inside the box is a power cord and a cd with installation software. There is also a paper copy of the network installation manual and a general installation guide on one large sheet of paper. Also an unpacking and installation guide is printed on one of the inner flaps of the box.

The print quality is excellent and I''m happy with the speed of printing. I recommend this printer for homes and small offices.

The Samsung ML-2955DW is a wireless black and white printer, with a duplex option.

The print quality is crisp and good.

I had problems duplex printing a thick paper, even when I had the printer set to thick paper. It had no problem when I used a standard thickness paper. I found it difficult to simply choose duplex from the print options. I had to set up Eco mode to do this which isn''t intuitive, and required extra clicks to choose one option.

Setup was easy for me. I am not a network expert, but I have good familiarity with a home network. All I had to do though was plug printer into outlet, plug a USB cord from the printer to my computer, and run the install CD that included network setup. As long as you know the wireless access password, you should have no problems. There is an option to use for other computers to just install drivers once the printer is set up.

It also supports Wireless Protected Setup(WPS) but as this standard is implemented insecurely, I have it disabled on my router. I did not test it.

The printer has quick acting sleep mode. This will save you energy. It is adjustable.

At one point I clicked the User Guide button in the included software, and nothing happened. The button appears not to function at all.

There is an app I got from the Google Play store (also available on iTunes) that I should have been able to print from. It was actually easier to choose options than from my computer, but I wasn''t able to get it to print.

In all, the printer prints great B/W prints, network setup was simple, but a few things in the UI aren''t as good as they could be, and some of the features such as the app were disappointing. If they are improved over time, it will increase the quality of experience you will have with the printer. If the price is right, it is a good buy so long as the mentioned issues aren''t show stoppers for you.

The installation of the printer was easy and completely trouble free. Printing was good at a decent speed and quality was very acceptable. Certainly very well suited for a small home office or as a personal printer at work. It would be overwhelmed as a shared printer for an office of more than 5. A big plus was the USB cable was supplied unlike another major brand as part of the product. The free "Samsung Mobile Print" App downloadable from Apple took quite a bit of figuring out to get working.

I have to point out that when the printer starts to print, the lights in my office flicker a bit. I''m not sure if that is due to EM interference or if there is a big current draw. It certainly has never occurred with my other older HP laser printers.

all in all, a good alternative to the lower cost Brothers and HPs.

I already own another monochrome laser printer (a Brother HL-2280DW) which I''m quite happy with. But I saw this one offered with a feature my Brother doesn''t have, which is printing from mobile device (iPhones/iPads, in my case...we have several devices in the family). Since we could use a second printer anyway, I got this one.

As a printer, it''s just fine. The mobile feature, though, is nearly useless. I''ll review that feature separately since probably most people don''t care about that.

Printer review: this compares reasonably favorably with my Brother printer -similar quality output, similarly fast, similarly quiet, and significantly easier to set up! We use it wirelessly, and the initial wireless setup took about half the time and a quarter the headscratching that the Brother did. And adding it to all the various computers in the house was totally painless. There''s one big annoying feature, though...the paper drawer isn''t big enough to hold standard 8x11 paper while *closed*. It seems to be part of the design that when loaded, the drawer sticks out. (Unlike in the product photo that shows the drawer tucked in). This is unattractive and also leads to detritus falling into the paper drawer. You also have to fold plastic guide/tray thingie out to print (as shown in the product photo)...it''s flimsy and I worry it will break. I like on my Brother printer that when set up and ready to print, all the moving pieces are "tucked in". All in all, I''d say I''d probably get the Brother again before this for that reason. But these are minor details, they are otherwise quite similar.

iPhone print review: This is NOT AIRPRINT. I was confused, but now I understand: AirPrint is ONLY offered on HP printers. (WHY? Arg.) If you want to print from "native" iPhone apps you need AirPrint. For example, if you are in Safari and try to print from there, you can not print to this printer. To use this printer, you need to download an app from Samsung and print from there. That allows you to select a photo from your library or the camera; or you can enter a web page URL in a browser in the app; or you can choose the clipboard (text you''ve copied from elsewhere); or if you use Google Docs/Google Drive you can select from your google documents. If you want to print anything else, you need to get a screen shot of it and print that as a photo. I had been really looking forward to this feature, but as it turns out, I''ve used it about three times in the two months we''ve had the printer, because it''s just not convenient for 95% of my mobile printing needs.

I blame the uselessness of the mobile printing more on Apple than on Samsung, because Apple has locked in a deal with HP and AirPrint. But no matter whose "fault" it is, if you have an iDevice, you won''t find the Samsung printer to offer you what you want from a mobile printer.

This is not the best printer in the world by any means, but it has some nice assets for those on a budget. One, it''s compact, not a monster in a huge box like some of my recent printers. Two, it doesn''t do anything fancy, but it does it well, the printing was clear and very booklike in quality as expected from a laser printer. Three, we have a Comcast network with a combo router and modem, and it was very easy to set this as a stand alone on the network in minutes. Both me and my roomate printed test pages within 2 minutes of running the software setup disk on our repective laptops. I currently work in Chicago and communte on the weekends back to my home in Fort Wayne, and this is the perfect printer to set up for a second household near work.

For usefullness it has a large paper tray great for home use and the wifi link is nice, as is the price of under a hundred bucks for this. There are no fancy extra''s, no scanner, media feeds, or color, but for printing out documents for daily business use, this is great. If you want a printer for photos, fancy greeting cards, special media like disc lables, to transcribe t-shirt iron-ons, or to serve as your copy machine, this is not the droid you''re looking for, so search elsewhere. If you want to do your taxes, print correspondence, print out articles to read, barcode coupons, or just black and white signs, this printer is made for you.
