I bought this printer because I thought it was cheap. It''s the most expensive printer I''ve ever bought, and I''ve paid $349.95 for a printer at one time. Let me explain: It doesn''t come with a printer cartridge or cable. It''s designed to sell ink cartridges for HP. Once the ink in either cartridge is down to 50% of capacity, it starts relentlessly sending pop up boxes saying "Ink Low" and asking if I want to "purchase ink cartridges from HP online". When this box pops up, HP designed the software to slow everything else down to a stop on the desktop while this box is slowly popping up. This is extremely time consuming just waiting for it to pop up. Once it does pop up fully, you can just click on the red ''X'' in the top right corner to proceed. This box pops up every time you print AND every hour or so. When you arrive at your computer several times a day there''s the box and any other programs grind down rrreeeaaall slow. How many times have you printed something and then changed your mind? Can''t do it with this little gem. You can click ''cancel'' in the printer queue all you like, you can wait, you can re-boot or do anything you like. This printer will not stop until it prints every page you clicked for it to print. Have you ever accidentally chosen 99 or 999 instead of 9 copies? I share this computer with other people in the household. Every time the printer malfunctions, I have to go waste 45 minutes to 1 hr (and tons of paper and ink) to get it fixed. Realistically, in the year that I''ve owned it, I''ve probably wasted about 50 to 60 hours (stressed out) trying to get it back going again. How much money is 50 hours of your life worth?
It''s the loudest printer I''ve ever heard (including Dot Matrix). It snaps and pops, gurgles and burps. For this reason, you can''t print anything while someone else in the house is asleep.
I''ve owned many different printers (all kinds of brands) but I''ll never own another HP product. This printer does a very nice job, but I had some installation problems. I thought I followed the instructions, but was ready to uninstall and reinstall when an installation screen I had not seen appeared and finished the installation. My advice is to ignore the "found new hardware" Windows installation routine, even if the installation disc is in the drive. Instead, try getting the installation disc to make the installation.
It is an inexpensive printer, but soon becomes more costly when you run out to buy a USB cord and a #21 black ink jet cartridge. Neither of these is included in the box. Together, they double the cost of the printer. Lately, you can get a printer that also scans for that money, although it probably needs some extras, like a USB cord, too. It will print with the #22 color cartridge, but that is an expensive way to do it.
This printer prints only. It does not scan or anything else.

I don''t need a fancy printer. This is about as basic as you can get and it''s fine. My major complaint is that I have to replace one or the other ink cartridge about every 2 months and I don''t do a lot of printing. I''m wondering if anyone else has this problem.Want HP Deskjet D1520 Discount?
My daughter bought me this printer when my old one died. It has been a big disappointment. If I can get it to prints at all if prints the bottom half of the page in red. From the start it said it was running out of black ink and this is a new printer! When I tried to buy a black ink cartradge could not find any for this model.I am saving up to buy a printer that will work and I can find ink for it.Printer did not have a black cartridge or the USB connector. It took seven painful installs before the driver finally took. It is woefully slow and uses quite a bit of color ink.
