Royal Alpha 850ML Cash Register with Bar Code Scanner

Royal Alpha 850ML Cash Register with Bar Code Scanner
  • Can handle 200 departments and 2,000 PLUs ( price lookups )
  • Multi-line, alphanumeric LCD clerk display with backlight - 1-line rear customer display
  • 4-bill / 5-coin tray locking cash drawer with removable coin tray
  • Can display 5 lines x 20 characters
  • 40 clerk IDs

The other model was suppose to be the same working functions as the 810ML, which I believe it is minus the handy drawer that went with the 810ML model. the model I received was sent without any notice of doing so therefore there was extra correspondence between the company and myself to guarantee the new model was going to work exactly the same as well as some comparison pricing on my behalf to make sure I wasn''t paying more than I was suppose to. I found a $21 discrepancy which I had to point out but, they did refund immediately.

Next time, I think the company should contact the purchaser about substituting a model before it is being shipped to the purchaser to receive confirmation that it is o.k. to do so or at least give the purchaser the opportunity to wait until the model ordered has come into their business.

I''ve had the Epson WorkForce 1100 Color Inkjet Wide Format Printer for more than a year, and used it for demanding large-format jobs like book covers and art prints. I thought I was happy with it, until I tried the canon Pixma iX6520.

For comparison, we printed a 13"x18" art print on expensive matte stock. The art has many dark brown and pure black sections. The Epson does a very good job with the blacks, and like I say, we were always happy. However, the Canon correctly reproduces many more subtle shades of dark brown than the Epson, to the point where the Epson prints now appear muddy to us. The blacks are delicious as well and subtly different on the Canon. This probably due to the fact that the Canon uses two different Black cartridges simultaneously, one dye-based and one pigment-based. Whatever the reason, the blacks are pure and clear.

We generally print using the highest quality, lowest speed settings. The Epson is slow in this mode, taking over four minutes per print. The Canon is faster, taking under three minutes. This is very dependent on print driver settings, and note that the Canon and Epson drivers do not have identical settings for a perfect comparison, so your mileage may vary. We printed directly from Photoshop CS5 on a Mac.

Unfortunately, no third party companies make continuous print systems for the Canon, like they do for the Epson. Maybe they will soon.

Update: After another couple of months, an observation: The extra black ink cartridge on the Pixma makes a huge difference. It''s a different kind of ink that is used for super black text and graphics. Didn''t notice this at first, but now that we''ve got more samples to compare with other ink jets, the difference is real. Well done, Canon.

After enjoying an Epson Stylus 2200 for many years of great service, it finally bit the dust. So, I began researching for my next wide-format printer. Although this one is a sleeper and not highly publicized, I am really impressed with this printer. It is simple and easy to set up and operate and, it produces flawless beautiful photos with no metamerism like I experienced with the old Epson 2200. This one doesn''t have any fancy bells and whistles, but, it just works and, it works well. The only thing I don''t care for is the printing software that comes with it because, it takes forever to do its thing; "s-l-o-w" doesn''t begin to describe the Easy Print software. It eventually works and, works well, but someone needs to fix that software to speed it up. I love that when you print a document using Word, it prints the last page first so that the document stacks itself in order and is ready to go when the print job is finished. Also, the text is just as clear as any laser printer. Another huge plus I like is, this printer, so far, does not seem to be an ink hog. And, the multi-packs of ink for this printer are very reasonably priced. I''ve printed several letter size photos, some 4X6 snapshots, and some gorgeous 13X19 photos -the ink levels are still near the top! As is always the case, the cyan and magenta levels come down first but, surprisingly, they are only down a bit, the yellow and blacks are still at the top. Another thing I like is the printer shuts itself off after its been idle for awhile, that''s an energy saving plus that I really appreciate. For all around everyday printing, along with art gallery quality photo printing, this was the perfect printer for me. I am favorably impressed and very satisfied with this purchase.

Although a dyed-in-the-wool HP advocate, I recently received the CANON PIXMA color inkjet printer and I am quite pleased with it.

A basic, no-frills piece, it does not have the now popular LED screen. Frankly, that screen adds little if anything to the product. It is a "quaint" feature but not a make-or-break deal and the PIXMA iX6520 does not need it to prove itself more than fit for the job.

Set up is extremely basic and easy. The instructions are clear and "goof proof". Canon has thoughtfully provided the user with ink cartridges. Naturally, following the norm of the day, they do not throw in a USB cable so be aware of this when you purchase the PIXMA iSX6520.

The machine operates quietly and extremely fast. The colors are not quite as good as you find on most basic HP products but they do manage to hold their own in the long run. Additionally, the unit gets bonus points for not shaking or rattling.

In short, the PIXMA iX6520 inkjet is a very good (and modestly priced) printer.

Want Canon Pixma iX6520 Inkjet Printer (4895B002) Discount?

When my Canon MP510 died, I decided to get a good photo printer rather than another multi purpose unit. I am a serious amateur photographer and I want my photos to look good when printed.

The MP510 did a good job, but the prints that I am getting now from the ix6520 are much better. I could not be more pleased. And now I even have the option of going as big as 13x19 for a few photos I''m especially proud of and would like to display in a prominent location in my home.

Set up of the printer is easy thanks to the documentation that comes with the printer. Both in writing and in drawings it takes you through the set up process step by step.

I suppose I hurried a bit because I ran into trouble near the end because I neglected to turn a page before running the set up disk. Early in the process I was instructed to turn on the printer, so when I came to run the set up disk I immediately started it, but had I turned the page before doing so I would have seen that if the printer was on it should be turned off before starting the disk. I finally figured out why I was not getting a proper installation and went back and repeated a few steps, but I thought I should mention it here in the hopes that I will prevent someone from making the same mistake I did.

The other thing that needs to be mentioned is that no USB cable comes with the printer. However, if you are replacing a printer, as I was, then just use the cable from the old printer. Otherwise you will need to obtain a cable before you can connect the printer to the computer.

Compatible ink with a chip is available,, which is important unless you have an unlimited budget.

Good software comes with the printer. One of the first things I did was go to the Canon US support page to see if there were any updates to the software even though the printer is relatively new. There were a couple, which I downloaded and installed. It is not uncommon with new products to have upgrades in the software soon after release as the manufacturer gets word from users about bugs, etc. So if you get the printer, I would recommend downloading the updates for the software. I had some trouble finding the printer on the Canon Support and Drivers page to find out if there were upgrades because the printer was not showing up on the list I used with the previous printer. Here is how you do it for the IX6520: Support And Drivers>Consumer and Home Office>Printers and Multifunction>PIXMA Corporate & Graphics Art Printers>PIXMA IX6520.

UPDATE: I have been using the printer for about 6 weeks and am even more positive than when I wrote the review. I have been using it mainly to print photos, but also to copy downloaded user manuals for some of the photo editing software I use. It does an excellent job with both, but the photos are what I am most fussy about and I could not be more pleased. I do not think I would get better prints if I used the services of one of the websites that make prints. The quality of the prints is far better than what I was getting with my previous Canon printer.

Regarding ink, an important consideration when buying a printer. All the the colored ink cartridges have by now been replaced by much less expensive cartridges (with chip) purchased from abacus24-7, in some cases more than once, however, I can see no change in the quality of the printed photos. I have used their ink for several years with good results and the same is true with this printer. The only difference I can see between the photos printed with the Canon cartridges and those I am using now is the price.

There are places on Amazon trying to sell this printer for $250 plus $50 shipping. I bought mine from Amazon for $114 with free Prime shipping. They said it normally ships in 2-4 weeks, but I received mine in only 5-6 days.

This printer easily rates 5-stars. It is as good or better a printer than any printer I''ve owned. It''s the first large format printer I''ve owned. It seems like they all started at several hundred dollars a year or two ago. At less than $150, I think it would be impossible to be disappointed with this printer.

I''ve already made several 13"x19" B&W prints and I think they look great (I can''t comment on color prints). These prints are over 2.5 times as large as an 8.5"x11" print. I can''t emphasize enough how awesome it is to be able to make prints like this at home for only about $1 a sheet (for Canon Plus Glossy II, which also gets 5-stars). I also think the taller & skinnier format is better, at least for my purposes (less cropping). The ink dries very quickly for handling, and dries enough for framing under glass in just a day or two.

I have just one complaint: if you select the bordered (full) layout, it leaves a wider border than my previous printers about 3/16" vs. 1/10". With the new larger frames I bought, I could see a thin white line (nothing a Sharpie and a straight edge couldn''t fix). Of course, the printer will print borderless, so it''s no much of a problem.

All-in-all, I think this may be the best purchase I''ve ever made through Amazon. I think it''s certainly made me the happiest.

***update***

It''s been a week and I''ve already made 15 13"x19" prints (13 b&w and 2 color). That''s the equivalent of 39 8.5"x11" prints. Each one looks better than the last as I get a better feel for how to estimate the print from the on screen view, but they all look great. I''ve just got the warning that the 3 color cartridges are low, but I may get another print or two out of them. The black dye is down about 25% and the black pigment doesn''t appear to have been used yet.

Over the past few years, I''ve probably made about 35-40 8.5"x11" prints with my Epson printer. I''ve had to replace all 6 dye cartridges at least twice in that time, and some of them 3 times. I''ve also done some very limited text printing, like tax returns and etc.

Overall, I''m very pleased with how long the ink lasts with the Canon.

TIP:

For printing, I''ve only used the software that came with the printer. If you size your picture to 13x19 (.684 or 1.462 ratio), and you select full size bordered, the margins on the short sides are a little thicker than the long edges. I''ve found that you need to size your picture for 13x19.25 (.675 or 1.481 ratio) to get the borders even and as small as possible at least that''s what works best with my printer.

As a rule, I have taken photographs, stored them on an external hard drive or processed and placed them on my web site (cordjonesfotos.com); I have never printed them--and had absolutely no idea what paper to try. Beginning in January, I began selling my photos and had to print them. So I tried a few different types of paper, none of which rang my bell for their eye catching results. On a whim, I tried Inkpress Pro Gloss; all I can say is WOW! The paper is so spectacular, it even makes my photos look good!

I bought the whole set before needing them all, so initially when I used yellow and black, things were printing fine. In the past month with the replacements of magenta, cyan, lt. magenta and lt. cyan, print color quality diminished rapidly. I just did a nozzle check and found lt. cyan to be out of alignment. After a head cleaning found 2 other colors out of alignment. During the second head cleaning the printer decided that it wouldn''t recognize the black ink cartridge anymore. I am now unable to print at all. If you don''t want to deal with the hassle, just buy the EPSON refills.

The "except" is the reason for a 4 star instead of a 5''er; the ink runs out more quickly than in competing remanufactured products. However, this is a trade off for the reliability of the Epson cartridge, (not to leak and that the print heads seem to stay clean for the run of the cartridges Not having to clean them also saves ink , so we are happy enough for this trade off. Also, finally the price is competitive with other brands ''. The rating should really be 4.5

I order this roll paper for an HP 110 printer with a roll feed. I cut it to size (24" wide max) on a chop saw. The roll of paper acts like a log in regards to the saw (because paper rolls are essentially logs anyway). This way I get really good paper cheap.

I''ve bought a lot of rolls from this seller. Free shipping seals the deal for me. The paper very inexpensive (in cost, not quality) and the free shipping brings the cost to a very low level.

Shipping is always on time, the product is always in excellent shape. Very happy with Essex for this HP roll paper. Will continue to buy from Essex and highly recommend others needing high quality roll paper at an excellent price point to shop Essex.

I''ve worked in technology for over 36 years. I''m picky as hell. I''ve been looking for a new all-in-one (AIO) printer for a while. I''ve tried Epson, Canon, Lexmark. I never tried Brother. I saw this printer in OfficeMax where it was on sale before Amazon for $99 and picked it up. The quality and the price of the inks looked great, the features were killer, and I needed the scanner because I often scan documents and photos, as well as use DocsVault to have a paperless office. I figured I would return it if I didn''t like it. No harm, no foul.

Man, was I surprised. The quality of the construction is terrific. It has a small footprint and low noise. The paper tray combines holding the paper and providing the output tray. It also will store a stack of 4x6 photo paper ready to go. All you have to do is push a lever to move the photo paper into position. The tray will extend as well for legal size paper. The paper stops on the output tray and the fax tray are a little flimsy, but I can live with it.

The document feeder is smooth as silk. The touch screen removes the need for endless buttons by transforming itself based on the selected functions. The driver and software is excellent.

The printer functions both wired and wireless and has the usual fax functions.

Now for the gravy! There is an iPad and iPhone app that allows you to scan DIRECTLY TO YOUR iOS DEVICE! It works flawlessly. The quality of the scans are beautiful. In addition, there will be a FIRMWARE UPDATE in JANUARY 2012 that will enable the printer for AIRPRINT! SCORE!

All of that in a brand new released model for $99! What is Brother thinking? I don''t care. I love this device and I highly recommend it. The output is excellent. It prints very quickly in draft mode and does a great job of saving me paper with duplex. It is serving all of our devices in the house. Best I''ve seen yet!

What have you got to lose? Try it! If you hate it, return it. No harm, no foul. :D

Generally speaking, this printer so far is VERY GOOD for the price. It does what it says, and it is very USER-FRIENDLY.

My two complaints are the following:

(1) My previous printer (a 2005 HP) printed with the same resolution in "normal" and "fast print/draft", the only difference being the quality of the ink''s hue or depth (and, of course, the speed). That is, the 2005 HP Printer printed a lighter-colored draft document, but very quickly. THIS PRINTER in fast/draft mode also prints quickly in a lighter shade (which is fine). HOWEVER, in doing so, the resolution/form of the characters is compromised. Remember the old printers from the 90''s where a curved letter visibly showed the small blocks that formed it? How they looked like letters shaped out of Lego(TM) blocks? Well, unfortunately, in 2012, that''s what Brother delivers in its fast/draft mode. The only way to save ink is to use the "ink save" function within a particular mode, in which case it prints just as slow as that mode normally would. So, you can save ink, but you can''t save time, unless you are ok with "block" character forms.

(2) Scanning a 8.5 x 11 piece of paper cannot happen in its entirety. The instruction booklet tells you this .12 inches are subtracted vertically and horizontally from the page (see Basic User''s Guide, p. 25). Maybe this is normal for all scanners, I do not know. But, you should know that if you wish to scan a page in its entirety, a certain dimension will be subtracted from it. Since there is no zoom out function, you cannot correct this by zooming out.

The two complaints/warnings listed above may not bother you. If they don''t, this is a fine printer for the price.

I did some research for a couple days and ended up purchasing this printer. I''ve never owned a Brother printer since i guess the name is kinda silly. Don''t let the name fool you this is an excellent printer. For $100 you simply cannot beat it. The setup is easy and the unit seems to be well built. It has scan, copy, fax, dial pad, etc. as rubber buttons on the front face. All the menu options are on a touchscreen LCD. The touchscreen can be touchy during the initial setup phase but you get used to it. It even has a feature which allows you to copy and reprint CD artwork onto burnable CDs...now thats cool!

The unit prints fast and has good picture quality. The scanner was way beyond my expectations and reproduces photos extremely well. Its almost like you took the picture directly off your camera. It also is able to print duplex prints and does so very fast. If you need anything more out of a printer then this then you''d be running a large business of some sort. It would even be well suited for a small business or office.

If i could recommend anything is use the quick setup guide and use the CD to install all the software and drivers. It took me a minute to get the wireless working since you have to setup your printer on your computer as a "wireless printer" and set it up as a shared printer on your network. If your having problems there is an excellent source of troubleshooting information on the Brother website. Once everything is installed i HIGHLY recommend going onto the Brother website and updating the firmware for the printer. The firmware tells the printer how to operate its various functions. My printer out of the box needed a firmware update. If your running into issues with your printer it may be because your firmware is out of date so do this first because it may make things much easier for you.

Other then that setup was pretty straight forward. I was able to instantly connect the printer to my wireless internet and set everything up with no real hassle. The printer wakes quickly with little delay when sending documents wirelessly.

All i can say is i am thoroughly impressed with this product. I dont think i''ll ever buy another printer without the Brother brand name. For home use you dont need anything more elaborate then this it has everything you need in a printer and then some. You can get a 12 pack of ink for $20 so ink is not expensive at all (which was also one of my purchasing points).

I got the printer, 3 reams of paper and the ink all for $130 shipped...what a deal! Gotta love Amazon.

Update as of 5/6/12:

Well we''ve been using the printer for quite sometime now and its been flawless. We recently got a home phone line and hooked up the fax machine. There are multiple faxing options but you have to choose the "External TAD" if you have an external answering machine. If you dont the printer will actually record voicemails and record received calls and such...actually pretty neat but not needed. Overall its a great printer i''m very happy with this purchase.

Want Brother Printer MFCJ825DW Wireless Color Photo Printer Discount?

A little more than a year ago my Epson died. I was using compatible cartridges with my Epson so my ink cost was very reasonable. Then, I bought a Lexmark Pro205. I assumed I could find similar compatible ink cartridges. No success. I searched Amazon for compatible cartridges for my Lexmark but all the reviews complained of issues. "Won''t recognize the cartridge", "Leaked", etc. Basically without compatible cartridge options, I had to buy genuine Lexmark Ink. Good ink but expensive at about $20 for an XL cartridge. After watching my bank account drain away to pay for ink over the course of one year for my Lexmark Pro205, I thought there has to be a better way. So, I went on a mad hunt for a new printer that would accept compatible cartridges.

I scoured the compatible cartridges for some that had good ratings. I finally found the Brother compatible cartridges on Amazon and they had decent ratings. It looked like it might work out. Rather than paying $20 for a genuine Lexmark cartridge, I found I could pay less than $4 for a compatible cartridge.

I wanted a Brother printer that had a document feeder, could duplex, could do both wireless and wired printing, could scan and could use the compatible cartridges. So, I opted for this Brother. My family has been using it almost everyday for about 3 months and it has been awesome. The only issue I had was when I unpacked and set it up the first time, I tried to install the compatible cartridges right off the bat. However, Brother wanted me to install the starter cartridges first. So I did and then when they ran out I switched to the compatibles. I''ve got all 4 inks running on compatible ink cartridges from Sophia Global.

My 12 yr. old daughter just created a family calendar for me for Christmas pasting pictures in it for every month. She printed it on 110 lb card stock, and it came out beautifully.

Thank you Brother for giving me this printer with all the options I wanted including being able to use genuine ink or compatible ink.

A note to those setting up the first time, it will consume about half of the ink in the smaller starter cartridges as it primes itself. At the conclusion of the priming, the printer said the black cartridge was out or may result in degraded print quality. I took it out and put it back in. The printer asks you if you replaced it or not. I said I did (even though I didn''t replace it with a new one) and it continued printing a long time afterward. You can replace the cartridges when you want and when you see that your print fades. With my Lexmark, when it said the cartridge was out, that''s the end of it. It could have had more ink, but it would not in any way let you put it back in to try to get more ink out. It remembered which cartridges were installed and could tell when you tried to put them back.

I was searching for a replacement of my HP C309g-n which was a worthless printer if you want to print wirelessly (don''t buy the HP C309g-n!)

Oh! About the Brother... I just purchased it today and had it installed and working without a glitch.

The HP (did I mention it consider it worthless for wireless printing!) would take 10 minutes to print a single page, but this printer handled it with ease! What a relief!

I tested duplex (two-sided) printing and it worked flawlessly. That piece of crap HP would pause for 30 seconds to "dry" the ink before printing on the back of the printed front. The Brother doesn''t skip a beat. BAM! Both sides printed!

This printer has the equipment to print on CD/DVDs (that accept inkjet!) So I''ll have to give that a try. I don''t have any reservations about that functionality considering how well it worked on the others.

About build quality, it''s a $90 dollar All-In-One... it''s made of plastic! What do you expect! Get a grip and buy this printer, you will be suprised about the total package!

Word of advice... please, please, please, don''t buy the HP C309g-n to use as a wireless printer, I''d rather you send me the money... I''ll put it to better use!

So far... So Good! No buyer''s remorse.

UPDATE: 2012-11-20 Still loving this printer! It''s the best "inexpensive" printer I''ve ever purchased! It hasn''t failed me yet! Ink is easy to find in multiple "office" stores and relatively-moderately expensive, but it doesn''t go through it quickly... that''s a plus!

I did try the CD printer function and as I expected... it worked flawlessly!

Would I purchase another one... in a heartbeat!

Oh! And my grey hairs from dealing the the HP C309g-n... they''ve all grown back to normal thanks to the Brother!

This printer has excellent quality, features and can do just about any task you send it. The stackable trays are great for different types of jobs. I have had the printer for 3 years and have not had to change the toner yet. I do use it for home business only, this printer is pretty heavy and takes up a lot of space for home use.

I trust HP quality and know this printer will outlive many similar models.

The printer driver settings are easy to use, but the menu options on the printer itself are hard to navigate and save.

If you do consider this printer, buy additional memory for it, because the 8MB internal memory is not enough for many jobs, and is quite slow. 64MB will be plenty for about 40 bucks more.

Best black and white laserprinter I ever owned. I bought it new. It still works. I bought it through Amazon.com for a great price at the time: $ 1859. It is 10 yrs old and still ticking!

I bought this printer for my home business to print vellum for screen printing over 11 years ago. I no longer do graphics but this is my primary home printer. I have had 3 color inkjets and spent tons on cartriges and hate it. This HP laser I have replaced the cartridge only once and that was like 2 years ago. I wish it did color. If you do mostly black printing or don''t need photo quality, spend the money and go laser you will not regret it.

My office had several packs of this card stock sitting around. I was going to use it for a marketing handout until I noticed that only one side of the paper printed clearly with our laser printer. We even checked two other packs.

The clearer side was acceptable quality for the prices listed.

Great thickness for full page signs as well as creating your own business cards. I managed to make my own cards and change the photos in them for variety.
