Ilford Premium Pearl 8 1/2 x 11 Inch Photo Paper 20 Sheets

Ilford Premium Pearl 8 1/2 x 11 Inch Photo Paper 20 Sheets
  • Heavyweight Look and Feel of Professional Photos
  • Beautiful Pearl Finish
  • Instant Dry
  • Water Resistant
  • Compatible with all desktop inkjet printers

For the past six years or so, I''ve been using Ilford Classic Pearl paper exclusively. I love the satin finish and the beautiful prints I get from my Canon S9000 and iP4600 printers. However, it''s not cheap. So when I saw this on Amazon, I was tempted to give it a try.

The paper is not as heavy as the Classic Pearl, and the finish doesn''t quite feel as satin-y as the Classic Pearl, but it nevertheless produces outstanding prints. Gorgeous colors, excellent detail. I love this paper, and will start using it for most of my everyday photo printing. Great value, too.

Very pleased with this paper stock. It did not smear the least bit and the color deposited beautifully. I will definitely be purchasing it again.

The quality of this photo paper almost matches that of my professional print lab and is great for when I need a print or two now. It is closest to a lab''s lustre finish paper. It''s a little lighter in weight than a professional paper, but the prints look just as good.

I have used several brand of photo paper for my Epson 1800r. Again and again I am most impressed with Ilford paper. I particularly like their pearl finish. It is the best paper I have found for printing portraits and wedding photos.

ILford paper is just the best paper that I have used, and I have use every brand out there.

Brother PC-Connectable Label Maker with Auto Cutter (PT-2430PC) Save 25% off

Brother PC-Connectable Label Maker with Auto Cutter
  • Easy - Fast - Secure!
  • Easy to Use - No software installation required
  • Uses tapes up to 1" wide, laminated for indoor/outdoor use
  • Prints multiple lines of text and graphics
  • Uses AD-24 adapter (included) or 6 "AA" batteries (not included)

I got this product to replace my current Brother P-Touch Labeler, because I wanted something that I could create laminated labels with, but also be able to make them a bit snazzier than my current labeler allows. This product fits the bill, and then some!

With this label maker, you can hook it up to any PC, and print laminated labels. Let me make this clear though---you have to have a computer to hook the labeler up to, or it will not work. Hooking up the label maker is very easy, you simply use the USB cord that comes in the box and hook it up to the USB port on your computer. Once hooked up, and powered on, a built in software called "P-Touch Editor Lite" automatically comes up. It is very user friendly, and allows you to create your labels from your computer, and print them without having to install any additional software. The great thing about this, is that with this label maker you have access to a wide range of fonts, clip arts, and editing that you do not have on a regular label maker. But, the best feature of using a computer to generate your labels, is that you get to see what the labels are actually going to look like BEFORE you print them! At last no more wasted TZ tape!

Now, if you want to take your label making up another level you can install the additional software from the CD-ROM that comes with the labeler. Installing this software is totally optional, and not necessary, but just provides some additional features that the built in software does not have. This is where things got a little tricky for me, and why I would give this product 4.5 stars if I could. Installing the software was not as easy as I expected it to be. But I am going to tell you what I did wrong so you won''t make the same mistakes that I did!

The CD-ROM contains two applications that need to be installed--the editing software, and a driver for this editing software. After the editing software is installed, the CD-ROM will attempt to install the driver. This is where I got stuck--the driver would not install. But after browsing through the numerous pamphlets/manuals that come with this product I was able to figure out what I was doing wrong--but I wasted at least a half an hour trying to figure this out. Here is what you need to know: 1. Make sure you do not have the label maker plugged in to your computer or turned on--wait until the installation software asks you to do so. 2. Make sure that the "mode switch" on the bottom of the machine is turned to the "E" position.

As long as you follow those two bits of advice the driver will install properly, and you can be on your way to creating all kinds of labels. The reason I would take off half a star is because I wasted to much time trying to figure out what I was doing wrong--there should be a label on the CD-ROM envelope that says "WHEN INSTALLING SOFTWARE SWITCH MODE TO ''E'' & DO NOT PLUG IN/TURN ON MACHINE UNTIL ASKED". That would have saved me so much time!

With that being said, once I got the software installed (and as I mentioned earlier, the software is optional....it is just more advanced than the software that is already built into the labeler), I was very impressed. You can really do a lot with it--there are even two modes, "Express" and "Professional". There are just as many, and maybe even more, fonts as Microsoft Word, as well as many different symbols/clip arts/ frames that you can insert. You can also install add-ins for Microsoft Word/Excel/Outlook that allow you to print your laminated labels from there. You can also insert photos that you have stored on your computer into the label! I especially love the ruler, which shows you precisely how long your label is going to be, so that you know how much tape you are using. There is also a neat feature called "Snap" which allows you to take screen clippings from your computer, and insert them into your label.

The label quality is excellent, and just what you would expect from Brother. As far as I can tell, this label maker accepts any type of labels that Brother makes (and they make A LOT of different kinds!)--even the 1" width labels. Fonts, and other symbols, etc, come out very clear. I inserted some photos and screen clippings to see how they would turn out, and they came out well---a bit grainy, but I was taking a large photo and fitting it onto a ½" label, so I did not expect that it would be the best quality. You can also have multiple lines of text, arrange the text direction, and do many other things with the installed software--you can even make barcodes! Other notable features--the product is actually more compact than I expected it to be from the picture, a clear window for viewing what type of tape that you have in the machine, accepts batteries AND has an AC adapter so you can plug it in ( a big plus!),is Energy Star rated, and seems to be made out of durable materials.

There is not much room for improvement with this labeler, but I would have a few minor suggestions for the manufacturer. First, I wish this product came with more than just one "sample" size TZ tape. It would be nice if there were more TZ tapes included and even possibly in various sizes or colors. Second, although this product is quite small, the portability of this product would be improved by adding a handle. Lastly---it would be nice if the labeler came with some type of pouch to store the label maker in, along with its AC adapter and USB Cord.

Otherwise though, great product for making quality, personalized, laminated labels! Definitely several steps up from what I had been using!

(Please check out my images of the actual output for text, JPEG, and screen capture.)

I''ve never owned a dedicated label maker before, but certainly have an appreciation for a good label. After running a few tests for an hour, here are my impressions of the PT-2430PC:

PROS

*Ease of use. No driver or software to install if you don''t want to. A small self-contained program is executed when you plug in the device to the USB port. I did not bother to use whatever extra software might be on the CD.

*The text output is legible enough. While jagged edges are definitely visible, it''s just a label maker and not a graphic design machine.

*Uses any True Type font installed on your computer, including whacky symbols!

*The quality of the labels are very good in regards to water resistance and peeling-and-re-sticking ability. I ran a printed label under a faucet for 15 seconds. There was absolutely no bleeding or damage to the base. The tape seems to be laminated and this gives it strength and durability. I was really surprised that the labels still stuck after I had thoroughly wet the adhesive (though I had to wipe off the water first). They also peeled off without leaving a residue and then easily re-adhered to the surface.

*Takes tapes of various width, up to 1-inch

*Works with AC or batteries (but it takes 6 AA!)

*In addition to text, you can print images and screen captures (but see the CONS section and the sample images I''ve posted)

CONS

*It is useless when untethered from a computer. A label will only print via a computer. It would have been great if there was a built in memory which could store a few labels which could be printed remotely. This is especially desirable since a good chunk of this thing is for holding 6 AA batteries.

*After a few minutes of inactivity, the self-contained software shuts off. You have to reset the label maker to execute the program again.

*It''s a bit too big for portability. It''s about the size of two stacked 3.5" hard drives. A lot of the extra space is due to the housing for the 6-AA batteries, which I plan to never use since it also works off an AC adapter. It would have been ideal if it could have been USB-powered.

*Every time a new label is printed, a 1-inch piece of unused tape is spat out. Considering that most labels I intend to make are 1-2 inches long, this is a very high proportion of waste.

*The labels, once the backing is peeled off, tend to curl and stick to themselves. It''s really only a problem if the label is longer than 2 inches. It also unsticks from itself without much damage if you''re careful.

*The ability to print images and screen capture is mostly novelty. The print resolution is so low that it looks very grainy like a super high ISO photo film.

*It seems rather expensive.

I''ve wanted a label maker forever, and when Amazon Vine offered this one for review, I was excited, but a little concerned that it had to be connected to a PC to work. I was afraid I would have trouble setting it up, but I plugged it in and within minutes I was printing labels. I couldn''t believe how easy it was to use because sometimes I can be electronically challenged. After playing with it for a while, I installed the P-Touch editor software on the CD-rom that is included with the label maker. While the basic software was sufficient for my use, the P-Touch editor software was fun to make really creative labels and even upload small pictures that I used on some. The 180 DPI print quality doesn''t make for detailed pictures, though.

Refills for the label maker come in a variety of colors and widths for various uses. The back is easy to peel off and the labels are laminated and high quality. The only complaint I have is that it wastes a bit of tape each time it prints, maybe about 3/4 of an inch that it just lops off and spits out.

It takes 6 AA batteries or you can use the A/C adaptor cord that comes with the label maker.

I''m very pleased with the unit and I''ve used it to organize my pantry shelves, and to label the fifty or so storage tubs in my attic. Next, I''m going to work on the kids'' closets!

Update: I''ve frequently run my labeled containers through my dishwasher and while I expected them to come off, they haven''t so far, and still look the same as the day I put them on.

This is great little machine. Many users have commented that the unit wastes an inch of tape with each print. This is true if you''re printing only one label. However, if you are printing a bunch of labels, enable "Chain Printing" and only the first inch will be lost. The Brother website offers instructions on how to do this, and I''ve posted their text below.

I tried the method with a dozen different text labels and the process worked like a charm!

These are the notes from their website:

Due to the construction of the tape mechanism, the one inch (25mm) piece of tape that is produced prior to every label cannot be eliminated. However, when you print more than one label at a time and select Chain Printing, the subsequent labels can be printed without the excess tape.

To select Chain Printing:

1. Input the text for the label.

2. Click on the pull down arrow menu next to the Print icon and select Print Options.

3. Select Auto Cut and Chain Printing in the Print Options dialog box.

4. Click Print; the machine will feed and cut off the one inch blank tape and prints the label. The label will remain in the machine until you print another label.

5. Create another label and click Print. The machine will feed and cut off the first label you have created. The second label will remain in the machine until you print another label.

6. Continue creating and printing the next label. When you finish printing all the labels, press the Cut button on top of the machine. The machine will feed out and cut off the last label.

Great labeler! I was using as 1230-PC for a long while, and this is just like it but comes with an AC adapter (yay!) and yes, it cuts the labels for you. The 1230''s "scissors not included" requirement was getting old, not mention having to boot up Windows just to print a label. All in all, the 2430 is proving to be a great unit so far.

For you fellow Mac folk: I found a driver for my Macbook Pro (running Lion), and it works fine. The packaging and included user guide only say Windows, but the Brother Japan site has a driver and the P-Touch Editor software (in English). You can''t use the built-in software, but so what? Who carries around a labeler the size of a trade paperback, plugging it into random computers?

The Mac printer driver file can be downloaded at http://d.pr/erul or if that doesn''t work use

The P-Touch Editor for Mac can be downloaded at http://d.pr/EnaD or if that doesn''t work use

Good luck!

Before I start, I just want to emphasize that I have been in the IT industry for about 15 years and consider myself to be pretty knowledgeable about PC and PC peripherals. This DOESNT mean that I''m infallible, just simply that I know what to look for in a device. Now onto the review...

It was time to replace my tired HP Photosmart 7260, although still working and doing a great job, I may add, I wanted something, well.... different. So, I decided to delve into the AIO(All In One) category. I initally started with an open box HP 2355 from Sears and was initally pleased as punch. Decent print speeds, wonderful photo and text output and an awe-inspiring design. However my happiness was short-lived. Apparently there was a reason it was an "open box" and priced so cheap. It was defective. Continuous banding, horrible color output after sitting a few hours, etc. So, much to my dismay I took it back and decided to stick with my PS 7260 until I could afford a high-end AIO. Well the time came to purchase and I shopped around, read numerous reviews and finally picked up an Epson AIO cx6600. For those of you who havent tried this printer, its MORE than worth the money!!! Excellent speed, nice look and good print quality. All out of a 4 ink tank system! However, I just could not settle with this device(Nothing really wrong with this AIO except that I could not settle for the 4 color pigmanet-based print engine) and decided to return the 6600 in favor of the 6 color, dye-based RX620. I''m glad I did. Heres why:

1.) Print speeds seem to be on par with the cx6600 (Which has decently high ratings for speed).

2.) Photo quality is among the best I have EVER seen. This AIO is on par with the high dollar, 8 color dedicated photo printers. With Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper and a high-resolution image(i.e 4-5 MP high-end camera), you almost have to have a microscope to detect ANY dithering or banding. I have printed everything from 4x6 prints up to 8.5x11 and continue to be blown away by the quality. And I have a VERY keen eye for imperfections!!!

3.) Contrary to some reviews, text DOES appear sharp and crisp. Print speeds arent super-fast, but will suffice for most applications.

4.) Copy and scan quality are among the best Ive seen from an AIO. This is probably attributed to the excellent print engine and over the top scanner. I copied an older film photo on the photo setting(NOT best photo) and could not believe my eyes. The printer has the ability to restore old photos and I''m here to tell you...IT WORKS!! An adapter is included to scan negatives and slides as well, which I have not had a chance to play with as of yet.

5.) Setup and operation are a breeze! Even printing sans computer could not be easier. The full-color LCD is very informative and easy to use!

6.) Bonus features! You can even scan directly to a memory card, or backup to a Jump Drive/CD-RW directly connected to the printer!!

7.) Its relatively quiet! Much quieter than most of the HP''s that I have used.

Everyone complains about the lack of a fax, but I do NOT see this as a fault! It is designed to be a home-based photo center. You CAN scan to fax with the included software, however and I found it to work as advertised.

CONS:

All in all, I have a hard time finding faults in this AIO and I''m REALLY looking. But there are a few irritations(Not really faults)

1.) The USB cable is attached to the machine from INSIDE the lid. You have to raise the lid to install the cable, which is fed to the back via a path notched out. Kind of crazy, but not a big problem.

2.) Epson thought it to be a good idea to put a product sticker on the top, which almost covers the entire lid. This includes the shiny black oval/oblong area that gives the RX620 a handsome look. When the sticker is removed, residue is left on the shiny part and is ridiculously difficult to remove. Solvents that are effective in removing the residue, cause swirl marks on the surface. Again an irritation, but does not take away from the operation.

My Epson Stylus 900 finally gave up the ghost after 5+ years of heavy use and faithful service. When i set out to replace it, i was a bit dismayed to find that dedicated photo printers are a dying breed. Bringing home an AIO seemed like a compromise -until i plugged in the RX620 and started using it.

First, i made a couple of 4X6 prints directly from a compact-flash card. I was blown away by the ease of operation and the quality of the prints: You''d need a magnifying glass to detect ANY evidence that these prints came off an inkjet! Then, just for fun, i made a couple of color photocopies. Even on plain paper they were clear as a bell and the color fidelity was superb. Next, i printed a Word document, again on plain paper. The text was crisp, even at 4 points. It was pretty speedy, too (I didn''t time it, but it was definitely faster than my Stylus 900). Finally, i scanned an old negative. This took a bit of experimentation, but once i figured it out i was again very impressed by the quality of the image.

In retrospect, i don''t know how i ever got by without this machine! It offers a ton of features without compromising image quality (in fact, i''d say this is the sharpest printer i''ve seen yet!). The full-color LCD screen makes it a snap to use and the controls are very intuitive. The interface with my Canon digital camera and iMac is absolutely seamless.

And although this printer''s basic operations are very easy to master, i''ve been very impressed by its advanced and custom settings, too. The color management is particularly good (gone finally are the days of having a print come out with a weird cast!).

In short, the RX620 is packed with features and offers superb image quality at a very affordable price. Even if you just want a printer and think you don''t need all the features it offers, i recommend purchasing this model. Even as a standalone printer, it''s an excellent value and is well worth the price.

The Epson RX620 is a great printer. I learned my lesson by not doing thorough research before I bought my last printer (a Brother AIO). After my last printer failed to perform like I expected, I did a lot of online research and review of comments left by others before I purchased the Epson RX620. After careful consideration, I bought and tried this printer. In a word, it''s great.

Print Quality: The print quality is terrific; including both text and photo print quality. I compared some older photos printed off an HP to the same photo printed on the Epson RX620 and I couldn''t believe the difference. The photos printed on my old HP looked "smoky" and dull compared to the Epson. The same exact photo on the Epson came out crystal clear, bright and vivid. I tested several text documents because I read from some others that the text quality wasn''t as good, but I found that the quality of text documents to be excellent as well. I printed on plain paper and inkjet papers. Naturally, the better quality paper resulted in better quality prints, but overall the Epson RX620 has excellent print quality.

Print Speed: The printer produces vivid photos in the "normal" mode quickly. This printer works much faster than my older HP printer or my newer (and very sluggish) Brother. Even when printing using the maximum "Best Photo" quality selection, large photos only took a minute to print. For a single 4 x 6 photo printed on my old HP or Brother, I could print 3 or 4 on the Epson in the same time. While all inkjet printers are somewhat slow when printing photos set on "high resolution", the Epson is fairly swift. Black text prints dark, solid and crisp, showing no bleeding or "feathered" edges on resume quality or inkjet papers. Plain paper (cheap photo copier paper) did show some signs of bleeding, but nothing more than any other printer on the market. Again, use better quality paper and get better quality results.

Features: The machine is very easy to set up and use. Within a few minutes of opening the box, I was up and running. The large full color LCD screen on the front of the printer offers the various print/scan/copy options that are easy to understand and select. The scan quality is sharp and is easy to do. You can scan to your computer or directly to a flash memory card. Also, you don''t even need to turn on the computer to print photos. Insert your camera''s card and print directly from the printer. I was surprised to see in the specifications that this printer also scans 35M negatives and slides. I assumed that the quality wouldn''t be a good as with a digital image, but was I wrong! I took some old negatives from a 1980''s family reunion and put them into the negative scanner and all I can say is WOW! The images were clean, sharp and vivid. In some cases, the prints off the Epson actually looked better than the Kodak prints I got from the drugstore back in the 1980''s! This machine is actually a full featured photo lab. I did find that using the included software to scan and save your prints from negatives worked better than just using the printer as a stand alone. The prints coming off of negatives without using your PC and the included software looked a little grainy, but I didn''t print them on "best quality" so I''ll have to test that again. The software is simple to use as well. A few clicks and I was scanning negatives. The system automatically brings scanned negatives up on the screen for you to manipulate and are filed in the "My Photos" file so there is no searching for images on your PC!

Ink: The printer uses 5 ink tanks. Black, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow, plus Light Magenta and Light Cyan (for photos). Each ink cartridge is separate, so when you run out of yellow, you replace only the yellow cartridge. Cartridges run around 12 to 16 dollars a piece, but again, because you only replace the color that has run out, you don''t waste ink like you do with the tri-color cartridges such as with Lexmark and HP. The Epson ink cartridges each have a smart chip that tells the printer that the ink tank is empty. The drawback of this is of course, that you cannot just refill the tank with a needle and generic ink and then pop the cartridge back into the printer. If you plan to refill the ink cartridges yourself, you''ll need to buy a kit with a separate "chip resetter" to reset the smart chip each time you refill it. You can find these online when you do a search for "Epson RX620 ink". Generics ink cartridges are available for around 3 to 5 dollars per color, but I haven''t tested the print quality with generic ink so I can''t really comment on that just yet. Of course, Epson advises against refilling the ink cartridges or using generics. Naturally, they want you to buy their ink. Genuine Epson ink however is top quality and it didn''t run when I poured some water on a sample print.

The Bad: There isn''t really anything bad that I can point out, except that this printer isn''t really a true "all in one" (AIO) machine. There is no freestanding fax machine on this printer, which means you cannot just walk up, dial a number and fax a document. You have to scan the document and send it through another program on your computer, like Word, Wordperfect or separate fax program. Even with this limitation, this printer is well made, produces quality prints and is very affordable. I would highly recommend the Epson RX620!

Want Epson Stylus Photo RX620 All-in-One Discount?

I bought this printer, despite a number of negative reviews. My test results confirm my suspicions: Most negative reviews are written by photographer/printer wannabes or simpletons who expect to get a thousand dollar printer/scanner/copier for under two hundred dollars.

MY BACKGROUND: I am a nationally-awarded photographer twice nominated for the Pulitzer Prize. I have been a pro for three decadess satisfying the most critical demands of graphic artists, designers and other clients. And I build my own computers. I ran a series of initial tests, using my own images, without making any Advanced adjustments to the machine or reading the Owner''s Manual. And got excellent prints with fine color and sharpness.

I then downloaded a Printer''s Test image (8X10" at 200dpi) and printed it at the printer''s "Best Photo" setting. Sharpness was great and color was only about 5% over in magenta... easily corrected in Adobe Photoshop.

I then scanned that print and the results were equally impressive. Sharpness was perfect and, once again, the scanned image was over about 5% in magenta.

I should remind folks that a 5% disparity of any color renditions could easily be caused by an un-calibrated monitor or printer. MY monitor is a brand new LCD,un-calibrated.

And text printed beautifully and fast no matter what type of paper I used.

I then copied the test print and found the copy to be just fine. Copies will usually lose 10% of sharpness so that was factored into my conclusion.

Finally I tried scanning a film negative and had very little trouble get good results.

MY OPINION: One would have to go a long way to find a better multi-function machine for under two hundred dollars. The Epson RX620 should satisfy most all photographers in all respects. Period.

With all due respect to those who have logged objections to this machine, I would suggest you do more studying on printers AND photography OR simply quit expecting a two hundred dollar machine to perform like a thousand dollar unit.

Thank you.......

I have used all the major brands on the market and have found the Epson RX620 the best unit overall. It does a great job of scanning to include old slides and neg. film scans. Some of the slides have come out better than the scans I got back from a professional lab, that''s impressive. Printing is some of the best results I have had with photo printers as it uses 6 independent color cartridges allowing you to be able to replace only the ones needing replacement. Some of the other reviews complain of the printer using too much of the color cartridges ink or requiring replacement before being empty. All I can say about that is the manual makes it clear that all cartridges pass ink thru during printing so clogging won''t happen if not used for long periods and the remarks of needing to replace the cartridges before it is completely empty is wrong as it also is clearly stated in the manual and on the message that appears on the screen that the cartridge is only 20% remaining as a reminder that you need to purchase replacements before too long.

It offers so much in useful software tools as well and all tools are easy to use and depending on your level of experience it will adjust to your knowledge and proficiency. Some dealers and even Epson''s website have been offering big rebates/discounts making this one sweet deal.

We''ve got huge computer issues in my house. We''re O-Soo-cutting-edge here. But our latest upgrade rendered my connection to the network printer just about nonexistent --painfully slow when it worked and sporadic in its choice of what it deemed worthily of ink.

So I decided, as a stop gap, I''d buy the cheapest littlest printer I could find. I could just put it on a table in my office and stop running up and down the steps to see if my print jobs happened. If they ever get the network set up right, then I could ditch the little printer and go back to the mother ship for quality.

I bought a little HP Deskjet F2120 - all-in-one printer, scanner, copier. In fact, I did not know about the all-in-one virtues til I got this baby home. I just wanted little and cheap. I also did not know about the OCR software that''s included or its ability to do two sided printing. (I haven''t tried either yet, but THAT it''s included is a nice feature.)

What a surprise! This little baby is F A S T .. much faster, at least in the black and white mode, than the fancy Cannon we run on the house system. I''m not sure how it will last. But as most of what I print is just to read, mark up and then toss, I''m thinking this could be a nice little addition to my office equipment.

Xerox XTRAVEL-SCAN Travel Scanner 100 Mobile 600 DPI USB Scanner
  • CLR 600DPI 24BIT USB 2.0 OT VRS

This product sems to work pretty well.

It is very small, came with a leather sleeve for travel, and software included. It has one big button on the scanner, but I do not know if it does anything, becasue it comes to life and scans anything you stick in there automatically (no need to turn on).

The software was a little crazy to install (had to install twice) but seems to work well. Comes with some warnings about not plugging the device in until the software is installed, but then it was unclear exactly when to connect the scanner.

This is USB powered so there is no AC plug.

Scans in black and white or color, just have to change the settings to color.

It is a little tricky to get a straight and complete scan. Helps to have a flat surface and smooth paper. It starts scanning when the sensor is triggered so if the paper is not all the way in to the feeder then you will miss some of the paper and have to try again.

My biggest grievance with this product is the software. You only get a trial version of their software! If it was a full version I would have given this product 5 stars. The trial version only allows one page at a time. The full version allows you to merge those pages into a single .pdf. Sending someone a 12 page contract on 12 different pdf files is a joke and far from professional.

If you merge these and send them with the trial version, the pdf will have "TRIAL VERSION" all over the front of it embarrassing as well.

The full version of the software cost $100 as much as the scanner.

Work around Set the software to scan into Adobe pdf format, get free pdf995 and then you can merge pdf documents for free.

Thinking of sending this back only becasue of the lack of ability to merge pages scanned into one pdf. This should not be a $100 add on, everyone is going to need to do this.

The work around is OK, but why should anyone have to take extra steps for this most basic function? Come on Xerox!!

I use a flat bed scanner at the office but, since I have started traveling much more, I wanted a portable solution to scanning receipts while on the road. This one got some good reviews and I liked the form factor. It will scan full 8.5x11 documents (common at hotels) as well as the small register tapes (restaurants, etc...). It''s fairly quick, the images are perfect for submitting to my client, and it fits in my computer bag right next to my 17" laptop. The fact that it''s powered directly through the USB cable is perfect no extra AC adapter to carry.

The applications that come with it are great, too. I love the drag-and-drop approach to building my single PDF of all my receipts. My customers do too. Very easy to work with everybody can read PDFs.

Only reason it doesn''t rate a 5-star rating is because it has developed a habit of generating a faint line on scans wider than 2 inches. If I clean it before every use (about a 3-5 minute process since it requires multiple cleaning passes and test scans), it''s under control and works like new. However, the line seems to continually recur and annoying. Not bad enough to ruin the scan but, still, it shouldn''t be doing it at all. I may contact Xerox to see what they think but too busy just now to do so.

Not a complete replacement for your flatbed scanner if you need high quality photo scanning but excellent for everything else.

Highly recommended.

I bought this because out of all the portable scanners, this had the best reviews. It runs off of USB not requiring an extra power adapter, which is a plus in my book. The instructions talk about using a cleaning sheet, which I have yet to find. So far, cleaning has not been and issue. I always put it back in the leather pouch that came with it after each use, so dirt and grime probably aren''t going to be much of an issue for me.

The reason it got 4 stars instead of five is the software, as most other reviewers have complained about. I am pretty computer savvy, and I had a heck of a time figuring out the issues with it. The scans were coming out dark and fuzzy in all formats. I went through the adjustment scanning process a couple of times and finally got the scans to come out clear. Because it has an auto scan feature, it made the process difficult.

I am using Windows 7 64 bit, and it comes with Windows fax and scan software. I find that this makes the scan process much simpler. Clicking scan instead of the auto scan in the provided software eliminates issues of crooked scans or off page. Now it is a breeze. Click scan, pops up in adobe, name it, save it. Done.

For the price, portability, and size, this is a great little product. If Xerox provided a more viable scan and edit software with the product, it would be a 5 star.

I bought this because it was small so I could use it when I travel for business. It scans receipts very quickly with great quality and crops them automatically. The scan application opens and takes the scan automatically when you insert a paper. I can scan many receipts very quickly. I use it at home instead of my normal scanner now because it is so much faster and it makes doing my expenses much less of a headache. Well worth the money.

Xerox XTRAVEL-SCAN Travel Scanner 100 Mobile 600 DPI USB ScannerI attempted for three and a half hours to install this scanner without success. So I didn''t even get to the point I could test the scanner. I telephoned customer support/ technical support where the technician could not get it to work in another hour. Later I traveled to the store where I bought it; returned it; the store had only two models same one and another that cost two and a half times as much. So I asked the floor salesperson to install another one from a new package. After one and a half hours he could not get it installed. It messed up the software in my laptop computer and that took having my computer worked on by the store technician to finally uninstall the scanner software that wouldn''t completely uninstall. That evening I spent another three hours, plus driving time one hour. Over 8 hours. This is a piece of sh&*^%$t!!!!! Don''t bother to buy it will cause you more headaches than you can imagine.

Kodak PRO 1400 Photo Printer

Kodak PRO 1400 Photo Printer
  • Dry technology - Dry thermal dye sublimation technology
  • Printing resolution - 301 dpi (continuous tone)
  • Kodak XTRALIFE Lamination seals every print
  • Max. Image Size - Up to 8.27 x 12
  • Print speed - Less than 90 seconds per print

Great color, without that over the top over saturated color one gets with inkjets; waterproof, tear resistant...Only recommendation I would make is that you download the newest drivers from the Kodak website instead of using the enclosed CD, and that you send your images to the 1400 about 10% lesser density than you like on your screen, in order to get the best result.

Incredible prints, easy to set up and get printing, (if you have a fork lift ;) it is a bit heavy and its big), but the pictures you get from this printer can''t be beat. The only thing that I dont like, other than its heft and size, is that the cost per print is just a bit to high. But after I printed and saw my first 8x10 I had to give it 5 stars. If you want prints that last, look great and have a big desk, you will love this printer.

I''ve owned a few top of the line ink jets but this Kodak sub-dye printer is just plain awesome. If you need professional photos, this is the printer to get. It''s fast, quiet and produces a print that is smooth with a lot of color and contrast. Shadow detail is breath taking and it is also easy to use.

This printer replaced my old Epson 1270 and it is a much better printer for several reasons.

1. The Kodak prints are much more real looking and have way better shadow depth. The colors are great. Vibrant.

2. With the inkjet if I went a couple weeks without making any prints the heads would clog leaving a mess on the first print or two. Even with head cleaning I still had this problem. The Kodak NEVER has this issue.

3. The Kodak is much easier to control the color match as to what I see on the monitor. There is very little fussing around with color profiles, which was always an issue with the inkjet.

4. The fading problem with the inkjet was a real headache for me. The Kodak has a transparent layer over the top to resist fading and also repel water and finger prints.

5. I was always replacing the color cartridge on the Epson. It didnt hold enough ink for what they were charging in my opinion. With the Kodak, the expense per print seems to be less although I can not confirm this.

I now have a laser printer for documents and the Kodak 1400 for pictures. I dont ever plan on going back to the inkjet way of printing.

This is a very well made "professional" Photo Printer.

I''ve had this printer for about a year, having purchased it for $340 including a rebate that Kodak occasionally offers on the product. I use it with a G5 PPC Mac. Over the course of the year, Kodak has upgraded the firmware several times. One of the firmware upgrades left the printer unable to feed paper without manual assistance, but the latest upgrade solved that problem.

Let''s get one thing out of the way: there is no comparison between this and inkjet printers, at least not any that are even close to this price point. Low end inkjet printers produce flat-looking photos that often fade with light exposure. Inkjets often jam up with one color or another if you don''t print from them quite regularly. I use a laserprinter for my regular output, so my old inkjet was used only for photo output. If I went too long say a week or two I had to run several cleaning cycles, then hope for the best. These are not problems with the Kodak. Here, you get beautiful depth that rivals professional Kodak processed prints.

Yes, it''s heavy, it''s noisy, and it takes up a lot of space. All true. But the photos look like photos, not something your kid printed at school. Yes, the paper is expensive, but again you get what you pay for. The setup is straightforward, hookup via USB works without difficulty, and print time is very fast. It starts printing almost immediately after you hit the print button, so there''s very little processing time. In about a minute or so, you have your first page. The accompanying Kodak software works well, and iPhoto will also interface with the 1400 if that is your preference. I''m sure there are many other choices that I haven''t explored.

The 4 stars rather than 5 are not about photo quality but rather are the result of the occasional paper misfeed (which Kodak seems to have solved in firmware), the high cost relative to alternatives, and the noise.

I have one of these that now has over 20,000 pages printed. It keeps going and going and going!

I use it to print black and white (of course) documents, sometimes hundreds of pages at a time. I just printed a 97 page document on legal paper that was printed in less than 4 minutes.

No, it''s not wireless (someone gave it a 1 star review because of reading comprehension), BTW if you do any volume printing you don''t want the printer to be in the next room, you need to monitor it so the papers don''t pile up too high.

I have this sitting next to my inkjet all in one, which is color and wireless, so I have all the bases covered. I find myself printing with the Brother over 90% of the time. Who needs color for most stuff? Plus, the toner never dries up!

Buy it! Get generic toner and don''t look back!

This is my second Brother HL2230 that I buying for our office. I bought the first one a couple of months ago. We needed another printer and I went with the one I already know will do the job. We mostly use it to print shipping labels and it definitely does the job well. No issues with the printer itself what so ever. We have printed a few thousand labels so far. The only complain is that the toner is relatively expensive, but thats how they get you. It is the same with most printer manufacturers. Luckily you can buy after market toner or simply buy toner powder and refill cartridges yourself.

Highly recommended. I dont think there is any other product in the market that will beat this unit by price and quality.

I was seeking an inexpensive monochrome laser printer for some relatively light non-profit organization printing. At home I own a similar but more expensive Brother unit. After reviewing many specs and noting the fair price this one (model 2230) looked like a good choice.

I am very satisfied with the printing from the tray and the options such as the ability to save toner when this mode is set. It is fast (24 ppm claimed) and in normal printing from the tray reliable.

It is however just AWFUL if you want to print envelopes (e.g., using Microsoft Word as the program). I have only tried in on regular #10 business envelopes. In this case at best they come out wrinkled and worse case the error light comes on and it won''t print even if there is no jam. I have to power down, wait for it to "clear" itself, and try again.

So if you just want to print 8 ½" x 11" documents, you''ll be happy. But if you want to also print envelopes save yourself a lot of frustration and buy some other printer.

Want Brother HL2230 Monochrome Laser Printer (HL2230) Discount?

(COMMUNITY FORUM 04)(#1 Hall OF FAME REVIEWER)I mostly print black and white (documents) and only occasionally need color. After mowing through countless inkjet cartridges that cost as much as the printer, and noticing that the color ink degrades over time if you don''t use it, I decided to buy a laser printer. Actually, it was my over-eighty year old mom who suggested this. Mom, you''re RIGHT! No smeary documents, longer lasting toner cartridges and better print quality. Mom does know best!

Installation

This printer is a breeze to install. I unpacked the box and there was the usual pictorial card describing how to remove the shipping protectors on the toner cartridge, but this is also repeated on the quick-start sheet, which is written in English. I find it''s easier to follow written instructions rather than pictures.

After you pull out the protective bands, you shake the toner cartridge and put it right back in. Then when you power up the printer (don''t plug it into the computer, yet!) a test sheet will print out.

WARNING: This unit pulls quite a bit of power upon warm-up. It actually caused my surge suppressor to blink out due to the surge in power demand, and shut off my computer. Therefore, I put the printer on a separate outlet on its own surge suppressor power strip (the computer is on a battery backup surge suppressor.) You may wish to do the same.

After the test page prints, you shut off the printer and install the driver from the supplied CD. A nice feature--the installation software will go to the internet to download later versions of the driver, something I used to have to do manually--that is, the CD might be out of date and I''d go to the Brother website to load the latest version of the driver. This installation software does that for you.

As the driver loads, it prompts you to put in the USB cable (if that''s what you are installing--you can also do network) and then turn on the unit. NO USB cable was supplied with this printer, so you''ll have to use a standard USB to printer cable of your own.

After the installation, I registered the printer and it checked for updates to the firmware.

Printing

Printing is fast and simple. If there are error conditions, the LED''s blink in various ways to alert you to the problem. There is a sticker included to place on the unit above the LED''s and I suggest you put it on the unit, as the blinking lights are explained by the sticker. (Toner might be out, paper out, etc.)

Pages

The page capacity of the toner cartridge is 1200 pages. You can buy a high yield cartridge (2,800 pages) or a drum unit which will do 12,000 pages. These range in price from under fifty to about a hundred. Aftermarket (not original Brother) compatible cartridges are even less expensive, less expensive than the average inkjet cartridge. I have not used an aftermarket cartridge, so I don''t know how well they work, but they are under twenty, so that''s pretty inexpensive.

Summary

For black and white printing, this printer may well be a better, more cost-effective printer than the average inkjet, and the cost of consumables is a lot less. If you mainly print black and white, this might be your "duty printer."

I needed a laser printer and didn''t want to spend too much. I''ve only had good experiences with Brother and it was a great deal so I couldn''t resist. And this printer is great. This is a great little printer. First page out in 7-8 seconds, and after that a page every two seconds. It is loud, but only while printing. After that a fan runs for about 30 seconds and then shuts down (I returned a Brother 2170 because the fan would run for 15-30 minutes after printing a single page). Installation was a snap. The printer also comes with a regular toner cartridge rather than a "starter" cartridge. Highly recommended.

Buy HP P2035N LaserJet Printer Monochrome Now

I have used various HP printers in my law office for over twenty years, and until now I was always satisfied. I bought this P2035N on 8/9/2010 because of its speed, and it is quick.

The major (and unforgivable) drawback is the cost and lifespan of the consumable ink cartridge (the P2035N only uses the HP 05A cartridge, and NOT the HP 05X high capacity cartridge). The HP 05A cartridge costs about $90, and is rated at 2,300 pages (about 4 cents per page). The first new cartridge lasted thirty days. The second one only lasted twenty days. The HP 05X (high capacity) cartridge costs about $165 and is rated at 6,500 pages (2.5 cents per page); however, the P2035N printer cannot use the 05X cartridge.

By comparison, my former HP P2015d printer could use the HP 53X (extended use) cartridge (costs $165, rated at 7,000 pages), which means that it costs about 2.4 cents per page, and it would last me about 3 months. Even the HP 53A cartridge (costs $90, rated at 3,000 pages) costs about 3 cents per page.

Based on the above experience, here is my bottom line: Don''t buy this printer. To print 2,300 pages per month costs about $90 on the P2035n, but would only cost about $57 if it could use the high capacity 05X cartridge. That means it costs me almost $400 more per year (which is $100 more than I paid for the printer itself). I''ve thought about just buying the HP 2055n, because it''s just as fast and it can use the 05X cartridge; but I hear reports that the P2055n is horribly slow at printing PDF documents (and I now scan all of my files into PDF formats).

I bought this printer to replace the only printer I''ve ever owned my HP Laserjet 4L, which I bought 15 years ago next month. I am still in deep mourning, and I would not have replaced it even now except that I was getting tired of not being able to print legible Mapquest and Google maps. So of course I stuck with HP. Major product loyalty here. Every office I''ve ever worked in has primarily used HPs because we regretted it if we strayed too far from the mother ship.

I''ve had this for about six weeks now, and I like it just fine. It was easy to set up and the print quality is excellent (which, after all, is the big enchilada). It will also manually duplex, which is a feature I wanted this time and caused me to eliminate some other printers from the competition. The footprint is actually about the same as my lil'' 4L''s, but it''s so much taller it looks gigantic, which is a drawback. I had read the reviews here before purchasing, many of which comment on how noisy it is. That''s true, but I found when going through the settings on the installation CD that it has a quiet mode, which turns out to be substantially less noisy than the regular mode. It does slow the print speed down slightly, but one could always change the setting for a big job and go take the dog for a walk. The only reason I''m giving this a 4 instead of a five is that it will be a while before I can fully evaluate how well the toner cartridges do. Otherwise, if I can''t keep my Laserjet 4L, I''ll take this one.

Want HP P2035N LaserJet Printer Monochrome Discount?

I was a little bit concerned about the purchase after reading a few comments regarding noise and delay in output. I have owned several HP laserjet printers over the last 30 years (starting with HP Laser jet II series, 4, 4 plus, 5, 5P, 6 and 6P, 6210 etc). This one is the best, faster than all the older ones. Actually, it is a lot quieter than 4, 5 or 6 series. After the job is done, it goes almost completely quiet. There is a few seconds lag when the print command is sent over the network, but that is natural because of the speed of the network itself. I was able to install the printer over my home network in less than a minute. The output quality is better than most other printers I have used in the past. There is a potential for concern regarding the toner cost, as it is expensive, and I do not yet know how many pages I will get out of a fresh toner. All in all, a great printer at this price. I had to pay two to three times as much for other HP laserjets, in the past.

Added 9/23/09: As I feared, the toner that came with the printer did not even last 200 pages. That makes the cost per printed page to almost 40 cents per page. I am quite disappointed with that. I will ask Amazon to replace the toner cartridge for me. Hopefully, they will do so.

Added 7/1/2011 I just bought another P2035N today. I installed it on Win XP computer. When I tried to print it using my laptop that has Win 7 (64 Bit), the printer kept on printing and printing the same page over an over again. I was really mad at HP and Microsoft for not fixing this issue even after 3 years of knowing about it. Anyway, to get around the problem, I removed the default driver and installed HP Laser Jet Family PCL5 driver. It has resolved the repeated printing problem. I like the printer, as I have now purchased 3 of them, but hate HP and MSFT for being so inefficient and totally uncaring about the customer.

If I could give this printer a zero star rating, I would.

This printer suffers from the same problems that plagued the last series of printers. The previous model was the P2015dn that would lose its web interface and network settings randomly. A power cycle would usually bring the printers back online.

We have had this printer in service for 5 days. In the 5 days, it went offline/locked up 5 times. Each time, the printer locked up completely. It could not be printed to, the web interface was not accessible, it could not be pinged and dropped completely off the network. It could not even be seen in the router as an active client.

The first lockup started at the 36 hour mark, then around 21 hours, and again around 20 hours and then the final straw was twice in the same day within 8 hours. Each time, power cycling the printer brought it up. This is not acceptable for a network printer. You should not have to power cycle it to make sure the printer is online and your print job will go through.

A call to HP was useless, and they denied any problems. Do a quick google search and this problem is all over the HP tech support forums.

This problem affects all of the "P" and "CP" series printers. HP has not made a reliable business class printers since the 1320n back when the printers were still made in japan. They have now switched to a Chinese manufacturer for their printers. Stay away.

Sorry about the earlier review. I received this product and it is the same size as the 75, since the black 74XL is twice as big as the 74 I assumed they had sent me as a mislabeled 75 (not an XL that I ordered). After searching on the internet I found out that the 75 and 75XL are the same size. So this appears to be a genuine 75XL, and it works great. My only recommendation would be to put in a note explaining this to avoid confusion.
