Unfortunately, HP uses the 564 and 564XL label for two completely different ink cartridges. There is a Photo ink and a regular ink. Neither the store nor Amazon clarify this in the product descriptions either. As a result, I bought the wrong cartridge. I didn''t realize it was the wrong cartridge until I opened it and tried to insert it in the printer. As a result, I can not return it.

The HP Photosmart printers have one large black ink cartridge and 3 or 4 smaller cartridges for color. Some models only have 3 colors and others add a 4th photo black. So if, like me, you have the model with 3 color cartridges, you will never use a photo black cartridge. To replace the large black cartridge, order regular ink, not Photo Ink.

In case you''re wondering, the difference between the 564 and 564XL is the 564XL contains more toner. Both the regular ink and the Photo Ink are available as 564 or 564XL.

The biggest complaint for personal inkjets is well.. ink. It''s always expensive and you feel like you are spending the lionshare of your purchase on the fancy packaging and plastic delivery mechanism. We use our printer for casual use and a decent amount of photo 4x6 printing. These XL inks definitely last longer than the std versions that shipped with the printer, and yellow always seems to go first. But they work as advertised, and never last as long as you want them to. We''ve had our printer for 2 years and replaced inks once a year now.

The colors seem to pop when using the special 4x6 papers and drying time is very fast. I haven''t seen any fading in pictures that were printed 2 yrs ago with these inks, and they are advertised to not fade, so i guess its working as advertised.

I bought a 564xl ink cartridge for my HP printer from Amazon. I checked my specific printer model to make sure the cartridge would be compatible with my printer. The information on Amazon indicated this cartridge would work in my printer. When I tried to install the cartridge, my printer info told me that the cartridge was " either defective or empty". I contacted an Amazon rep. who told me to call another company. When I was finally able to get a response back from the other company, I was first told they would not accept the cartridge back and NO REFUND! After I continued to talk to the rep, she finally offered to check with a manager who said I could send it back and would be charged a 20% restocking fee. I am not pleased with Amazon or the other company..I should have been told to begin with the cartridge was not compatible with my HP printer. This is poor representation when a company does not stand behind the products they sell or make some effort to "make things right" with a paying customer. This has put a negative light on Amazon for me....

Bought this as a replacement for an older konica-minolta home office color laser. The pc tech who delivered the printer had to perform some interesting workarounds to force the printer to initially operate-I should have been more concerned at that point. Color quality is okay, often it is quite dark versus truer to the monitor color. The highly advertised duplex function never has worked from first installation-it instead prints this huge arrow on the reverse side of paper. Of late, the wireless connectivity which was a heavily-relied upon feature from my laptop has just stopped working. While a good price, think first before you buy yourself the grief and hassle unless you like playing hardware techie.

Lexmark PhotoJet Z705 Printer

Lexmark PhotoJet Z705 Printer
  • Vivid 4,800 x 1,200 dpi resolution on photo paper, 2,400 x 1,200 on other media
  • Fast 17 ppm black, 10 ppm color document printing
  • Prints a 4-by-6 inch photo prints in about 60 seconds
  • USB interface, cable included; PC and Mac compatible
  • Optional 6-color printing; optional Ethernet

This is a compact and fast little printer. I use Windows XP Pro, and the setup was practically instantaneous; I''ve never seen setup instructions with no words, just diagrams, before, but it worked flawlessly first time.

The construction is reasonably robust -not too plasticky. The footprint is about 18" by 9" with the feed racks pulled in, but realistically you need about 18" wide by at least 10-12" deep -the front rack, which gathers the paper, can stick off the table OK. The footprint is 18" by 18" with both racks pulled out. The cartridges snapped in perfectly; everything worked fine immediately. The paper feed is not finicky at all and aligned the paper perfectly.

The only criticism I have is simply that this is an inkjet and so without special paper (and even with) it''s just not as precise as a laser. I printed out a couple of text pages: the text looked solid and black until I got up fairly close. There was just a tiny hint of fuzz on the diagonals, when I squinted, and a magnifying glass confirmed what I thought I saw -the line is a little blurry.

The colour is strong and clear, and as precise as the black.

A couple of other points to note: the installation process will make this your default printer. That may well be what you want (it wasn''t, for me), but if not then don''t forget to go back and reset the system default via Start -> Printers. And secondly, note that Amazon also sells this without the USB cable for one less dollar; this model has the cable, so get the other one if you have a cable to hand. Search for Z705 if you can''t find the other one.

This is a great inkjet printer; for the price, this is as good as you''re going to get.

I got this printer free with a really cheap computer package. I already had a pretty nice HP printer but since that was almost out of ink I figured I would just use this one for awhile. The prints this produces are almost as good as the HP (930 series by the way) but not quite there. The biggest drawback to the print process is the speed. Printing an 8.5x11 at "best" quality takes about 25 minutes.. far cry from the 10 ppm its description states(ppm = pages per minute?!... no way... I seriously doubt it could even print 10 pages containing one wallet size photo per page in draft mode in 3 or 4 minutes). But its much faster in draft mode or when using black/white obviously.

Another disappointment is the life span of the color ink cartridges. Printing most stuff like web pages and other misc. documents doesn''t deplete the ink too much but those large "best" quality prints spray some serious ink. The driver for this printer comes with a little virtual ink gauge that keeps track of your ink levels. I printed 4 8.5x11 high quality prints tonight and the gauge dropped from 3/4 to about 1/3. That was disheartening. I suppose I have printed about 20 high quality 8.5x11 prints on these cartridges so far. Ink prices for this printer seem about average which means that a replacement set is going to cost about $55 bucks or so. Seeing as how most stores selling printers always have one for about $50 bucks I don''t see why people buy new ink when its cheaper to buy the printer.

Anyway, it''s a nice little printer that''s easy to setup with nice driver software but compared to my previous HPs its way slower, uses more ink, and doesn''t have as good of prints. If it was cheaper to feed I might give it a 3 star rating but it just doesn''t deserve it.

This printer comes with the easiest-to-use photo organizing and printing software we''ve ever seen. This is the first setup that my wife is actually willing to use. That''s no small statement since we bought our digital camera three years ago -which takes excellent photos -but it''s always been too complicated before installing the Lexmark software, which is a snap.

We printed about 100 borderless 4x6 photos before the ink ran out. Definitely we''ll buy the high-capacity ink next time. With the high capacity ink I think it will come to something between 20-30 cents per photo.

At high resolution, the printer is super-slow. That''s okay for us. Overall, it''s a great purchase, but time will tell if the cost of ownership is too high due to the ink consumption.

Update 12/23/2006 (after 2 years): This thing is way too expensive to maintain; the ink costs more than double the competition -even the "generic" ink is more expensive. Time to get a new printer.

I''ve owned two Lexmark printers, and both of them did not last two years. One had problems after 3 months of usage--would not print in black ink. The other one lasted two years, and it also stopped printing in black ink. I''ve tried installing new cartridges, and I''ve tried their ink nozzle cleaning program on numerous occasions--it doesn''t help to fix the problem. I will never voluntarily buy a Lexmark product, ever again.

Don''t buy this yes, it''s cheap, but unless you like babysitting your printer by feeding each sheet in by hand, you''re better off spending a few more bucks and getting something that works.

The cartridges work like they should. I use them in a HL-4570CDW. The printer will stop printing before it runs out of toner. They are forcing us to buy toner before the cartridges are empty. To override or reset the printer so it will use all of the toner do the following: 1)open the front door of the printer, 2)push "secure" and "cancel" at the same time. this will open up a new directory on the LCD display. 3)push the up and down arrows until you see your cartridge that the printer has stopped using. 4)push reset and close door. Your cartridge will print several thousand more pages before it is truly empty.

I have been extremely pleased with HP printers for as long as I''ve been computing (almost 25 years!), however I bought an HP Laserjet P3005x in late 2007 and have had no end of problems, the most significant being the faulty formatter board, which is the brain of the printer. I have learned that this part is defective in a large number of these particular printers, and that there is an HP service note on units within a certain serial number range. My printer of course is just outside the service note range and is out of warranty, so I am S.O.L. with a dead printer barely over a year old. My old HP Laserjet 4L worked for almost 10 years without a single problem. Needless to say, this has been one very disappointing printer, and the fact that a crucial component within the printer was defective right from the start (and many, many other units contain the same defective part!) is even more disappointing. Please be cautioned that the Laserjet P3005 series printers are repair magnets; if you are considering buying one I recommend that you try to find out the serial number of the printer you intend to purchase, and do some research with respect to the service history of that serial number series.

This printer was purchased for use in a registrar''s and student accounts office. The foot print is small, multiple trays provide flexibility, speed is good for an office setting, toner seems to last longer that many, and set-up was easy. This is a great small, B&W office printer and the price is reasonable. No complaints or problems to date.

This is the best priced two-tray networked printer on the market. This works very well for us and the seller got it to us in good time. I would recommend the seller and will shop there again for future needs.

I purchased the P3005X as a replacement for an HP4050, (have three of them in our offices, they are great printers). Right after this printer initialized, I began receiving various error messages (mainly 49.4C02 printer error). Then a memory test failure, ("replace DIMM 01"). Went online with HP support, did various trouble-shooting (including re-seating the DIMM). Long story short: hardware failure. HP will replace this brand new printer with a refurbished printer, as long as I pay $69 for their Express Exchange service. Or, I can pack this printer back up and ship it to them so they can repair it and ship it back to me in 7-14 business days (I have to pay the shipping costs to HP). Either way, it''s a hassle, I will definitely not buy another P3005 series printer.

Canon 2945B011 PGI-220 and CLI-221 CMY Ink Save 18% off

Canon 2945B011 PGI-220 and CLI-221 CMY Ink with PP-201 Combo PackCanon makes excellent ink and photo paper so this ink/paper combo is almost the best of two worlds, quality and economy. I''ve never had any negative issues with either Canon inks or photo paper so I have no negative comments about them. I made a costly error a number of years ago by using non-OEM ink to save a buck. Saving a buck on ink cost me a printer which gummed up and quit working due to poor quality ink. Lesson learned, stick with Canon OEM ink for your Canon printer.

Why did I say this combo was "almost" the best of two worlds? What you receive with this combo are CLI-221 tanks in cyan, magenta, & yellow and the PGI 220 black tank as well as 50 sheets of Canon glossy photo paper. You DO NOT get the CLI 221 black ink which is required for the MP-560 and some other Canon printers. I didn''t read as thoroughly as I should have and thought I was getting all four CLI 221 tanks. My MP 560 requires both the pigment-based and dye-based black ink cartridges (pigment for text and dye for photo printing). As I said, it was totally my fault for not reading thoroughly but I do wonder how many others may have made the same mistake. It''s an easy fix, just order a CLI 221 black tank.

Regardless of my error, it is still an excellent value for which you get Canon quality for ink and paper.

This Combo Pack doesn''t come with the CLI-221 black cartridge. If you don''t pay attention to it, you buy presuming it is complete.

This review is an alert. If you want a complete set of cartidges, you have to buy with this COMBO an extra CLI-221 black cartidge.

Great deal, but it wasn''t clear that this set does not include the CLI-221 Black cartridge, which is needed for the Mx860 model and probably others. Seems odd that they would include 4 out of 5 cartridges required for the printer.

I have to post a review because I feel differently than most about the combination of ink in this package. We have had our Canon printer for about 3 years; we run a small business and print mostly text documents, only occasional photos. It has quickly become apparent that the larger black ink tanks (pgi-220) get used up much faster than the small ones.(pgi-221) Even though I don''t use the photo paper, I purposely buy this combo pack BECAUSE it has a 220 in it. I have bought the packages that include all 4 pgi-221 refills, and currently have amassed 4 of the small black inks because the printer just doesn''t use them up! Pay attention to what you''re ordering and you won''t have a problem...

Want Canon 2945B011 PGI-220 and CLI-221 CMY Ink Discount?

Others have mentioned the need to check the listed contents when ordering a combo pack. I agree! I love my Canon MP560 printer and the Canon ink and paper are worth the investment because they give the best results. I have purchased combo packs with all 5 cartridges which is helpful, but the 221 Black cartridge does not run out nearly as quickly so I have 2 extras sitting in my drawer. This particular combo pack is exactly what I need to even things out. So, my advice is to keep looking for the combination of products you need if you want a combo...good chance it''s out there somewhere. I actually bought the 5-pack at Costco.

HP Deskjet 1050 All-in-One

HP Deskjet 1050 All-in-One - Multifunction - color - ink-jet - copying: 16 ppm / 12 ppm - printing: 16 ppm / 12 ppm - 60 sheets - Hi-Speed USB
  • The brand name is HP.

I bought this printer in Jan. 2011 and it was broken 3 months later. It got a paper jam one day and never fed paper into the printer properly after that. It pulls to one side each time you try to print and then jams. It felt very flimsy from the first day I got it, so I guess I didn''t expect it to last for years...thought it would last longer than 3 months though. Ink cartridges run dry very fast too. They are very small and feel light compared with my last HP printer''s cartridges (which I''ve had for over 8 years by the way, and the printer still works). I have to say the scanner worked well for me and made great copies while it lasted. I wouldn''t buy this printer again.

Buy HP Deskjet 1050 All-in-One Now

I bought mine at walmart online for $34 + s/h costs for a total of $41 in early January this year and i thought i was getting a deal but it was NOT a deal. I barely even used my printer on a regular basis yet in just 2 months, the paper would jam and the plastic mechanism rollers that were supposed to roll the paper into the printer wouldn''t even work. The printer didn''t come with a cable to connect it to the computer. For anyone who''s gotten this machine or any other electronics and can''t return it back to the store because it''s past the 30-day return policy, there''s usually a 1-year manufacturer warranty. As long as you bought it new from an authorized retailer like the big box stores and filled out the registration for it in the beginning with HP (or you''ve still got receipts to prove you bought it within a year), just call up their tech support at HP and in the end, they''ll have to replace it free of charge which is what happened when I called them. They were really nice and sent me an upgraded version. (I did the same years before with a Canon scanner that dumped out on me and the manufacturer gladly replaced it free of charge, and the quality was MUCH better than the one I originally bought.)

My Epson printer died on me in the middle of a project. So I pulled out my old Brother all-in-one printer but the ink head was messed up. Tried cleaning it, no luck there. So I started to research some printers and found this printer at first on Amazon and then located one for sale at Target for $40 bucks. Mine did come with a usb cable and the printer surprisingly included XL cartridges. I have a Windows XP System and the s/w loaded perfectly. Now I was finally able to get my project finished. The print quality is very good considering it only has 4 colors. And I''m done spending money on expensive printers. The Epson printer would still be working if the printer ROM hadn''t said the printer was at end of life. I paid a lot of money for that printer and just because I printed a lot of documents on it I was penalized by Epson. I tried to reset the counter on the darn thing but nothing would work. I will never ever buy another Epson again. As far as the Brother All-In-One was concerned the print head became dirty and there is no way to get in there to manually clean the thing. So no more Brother printers for me. HP on the other hand has always been a great reliable printer for me. I should have never given away my HP to a friend of mine when I got my Epson to print photo quality prints. But hey for $40 bucks I''m happy to be able to print and scan with this thing. I have read some reviews complaining about the reliability of this printer but what the heck, if it should break within 90 days Target will replace it and if it should fail within a year HP will replace it. Not so bad. And if it should last me for more than a year and fail that''s ok too. Printing for $40 bucks a year on a printer that uses cartridges that can be refilled is awesome. So now I''m back with HP and I think I''m going to stick with them from now on.

I bought this for $20 during 2010 Black Friday sale. I had been without a printer for months and couldn''t pass this up. It felt and acted cheaply, but since I rarely print and just needed a home printer/scanner for personal use when I needed it, this would do. Worked fine for about a year, tho I don''t recommend installing the software, I didn''t and got no hassles. I will say I got at least a year and change out of it, but you have to be VERY CAREFUL with paper. I don''t think it went through ink that bad either.

But one day out of nowhere, the paper is in fine, and it just yanks it down and then BAM it''s totaled. Now when I try to print it gives me a paper jam and yanks the paper down to one side and refuses to print. I have a full ink cartridge inside that will now be useless. I have had so many printer problems, from Epson to HP and beyond. It makes me scared to buy anything to expensive as I can''t be replacing printers left and right, and to get a replacement is like trying to break into the pentagon in a Groucho Marx get up and expect to even get on the grounds. Hard as hell and you end up screwed in the end.

I will say the scanner worked just fine and still works. But I still need a printer. For $20 I shouldn''t complain, but this just happened to be a black Friday sale. This printer really costs over $60 and if it''s the same printer and same parts, etc, it should still give you solid craftsmanship. If I pay more than $70 for a printer I should get a replacement pronto. I won''t even bother with this, but it''s sad that a lot of these printers are pieces of junk.

I say do not buy this brand (not HP, but model) at least, because if it will do this no matter the price then it''s barely worth a $1.

Okay, maybe a $1.

HP''s low end printers follow a business model pretty close to the old give away the razor, sell the blades model. That''s fair enough, but some analyst at HP has been figuring out ways to make sure that HP squeezes every ink cartridge penny out of consumers that they can. You can''t easily use compatible or refilled cartridges. Worse, with every new cartridge (and the tiny cartridges don''t give you many pages before you are sending plastic to the landfill and installing a new one) the HP software insists that you print a full color page so the printer can ''align'' itself. No matter that the program doesn''t seem to do any alignment. Your print job is going on hold until HP gets its little piece of paper. (You can skip alignment, but that just means it keeps asking with every print job, in my experience.)

Here''s the point for the bean counters at HP, if they ever read these reviews: you spend a lot of money on advertising, but your brand, which is what differentiates you from the lowest cost generic item coming out of Chengdu or Thailand, depends on the total customer experience. Once you have a customer, your brand to them is how you treat them. How you treat me is you waste my time and my money by making me print useless scan pages with every new cartridge. How you treat me makes me not like you, because it is so transparently not done in my interest (I could run a scan test if the printing gets fuzzy, if I want) but all done in the interest of boosting just a little bit your ink sales. A couple of wasted pages per cartridge add up across lots of cartridges, but you need to consider the cost to your brand. I''m done buying HP. I''ve got you pegged as a company that wants to use, not help, its customers, and there is too much competition out there for me to spend time with such a company.
