Previous reviewers have given a good overview of how the product works. I will discuss what it can do for you.

PaperShow is optimized for two tasks: annotating PowerPoint presentations, and participating in digital whiteboard sessions. Why, you may ask, would you want to do these things? And how is PaperShow better than a mouse or tablet for these tasks?

First, PowerPoint presentations. The smaller PaperShow paper is designed for you to print your PowerPoint presentation on, in advance. Do this from within the PaperShow application, because it prints your PowerPoint slides in a special way to allow the pen to work. During your presentation, you write on the paper with your PaperShow pen, which gives you a very accurate way to mark up a slide. I found that this was much more accurate and easier than using a mouse or laptop touchpad for the same task. However, it''s similar to using a tablet with a pen stylus. One advantage offered by PaperShow is accuracy: once you print your slides on the special paper, you can underline something very precisely, or write in exactly the place you want the words to appear. This is tough without PaperShow. If you''ve tried it with a mouse, or even a tablet, you''ve experienced lines and marks appearing in the wrong place on screen, or at weird angles. The other advantage of PaperShow is you finish with a copy of your markups, both electronic and on the special paper.

OK, what about whiteboard sessions? This is where PaperShow should really shine. I collaborate remotely with people on many different projects. We have started to use shared whiteboard applications on the web. To use these effectively, you really need some sort of pen input device. In whiteboard applications, PaperShow would be clearly superior to pen tablets because of the paper: you can look at what you are drawing on the paper rather than draw on the tablet and watch the output on your screen. Unfortunately, PaperShow does not work with collaborative whiteboard apps, only with the included whiteboard app. The included app works very well for audiences in the room, but PaperShow is missing the boat without an online, collaborative app or an interface to an existing solution that''s already out there.

If you don''t immediately respond to one of these two applications for PaperShow, the product is not for you. My PowerPoint and local whiteboard sessions are better because of it.

Two suggestions to the manufacturer: spend less money on the packaging, which is very deluxe and expensive. Use the savings to upgrade the included binder with a place to store the pen, instead of the separate pen box. As much quality design effort that went into this product, I''m surprised you didn''t do this already. We are already juggling our car keys, cell phone, laptop, briefcase, etc. when we arrive at a meeting. We don''t need a plastic pen case to keep track of as well.

Second suggestion: include an online, collaborative whiteboard app as described above.

In my role as staff educator, I really appreciate tools that are effective and easy to use. PaperShow has hit the nail on the head with this product. The kit has three main components: a USB key that is both a Bluetooth transceiver and a memory stick, a Bluetooth pen that communicates with the transceiver, and special paper to write on. The pen has a little infrared camera that is able to determine where it is on the paper. The paper, which comes in different sizes (I am using A4 currently), has a grid printed on it to help in writing straight and a "toolbar" printed down the right side. To change the attributes of your pen, such as line thickness, color of what you are writing/drawing, circle and arrow tools, eraser etc., you just touch the pen to the appropriate color or emblem on the tool bar and presto.

Setup is simple but does require an internet connection. I really appreciated the fact that I didn''t have to register or enter any information to get under way. The connection is only needed for downloads and updates to the USB key. This brings up another really good attribute, only drivers are installed on your computer for the Bluetooth and mass storage aspects of the hardware. The program resides on the USB key, making it completely portable to use on any other OS compatible PC. Installation is simply a matter of plugging in the key, pulling the cap off of the pen to turn it on (after you put the battery in of course), and letting the key update and install drivers.

When the program launches, what you have is akin to a white board on your PC. It is capable of being run full screen. Whatever you write on the paper shows up on your PC''s whiteboard. Whatever you write on the paper is in the color of the pen''s ink. But what shows on the white board is whatever color, line thickness or shape you touch on the paper''s toolbar with the pen. Making a colorful and easy to read presentation couldn''t be easier. In the same vein, you can print out PowerPoint slides or imported pictures on PaperShow paper and mark those up too (I have not tried this particular feature yet). I project my virtual white board using my Infocus projector. The result is an impressive new tool in my teaching arsenal.

I first used PaperShow on my Lenovo laptop running Vista. I then took it to work and tried it on my XP system. It worked perfectly on both systems.

The pros:

* Easy to install

* Intuitive to use

* Portable (comes with a nifty little case to carry all of the components and an extra AAA battery)

* Paper replacement is inexpensive

* No programs to install on your PC

* You can save your white boards in PDF, PowerPoint or to the key. You can also email them.

* You can import pictures, print them on PaperShow, and then draw on them on the whiteboard.

The cons:

* It will not work at all on regular paper. You need to keep a stock of PaperShow paper on hand

* To erase things from the white board, you have to make erasing movements with the pen touching the paper where you want to erase, which leaves scribble marks on a spot of the paper you may need to write over.

* You can''t write on the white board with your mouse

* If you want to access online support, you have to register

Overview:

Papershow is an interactive digital writing program you can use at meetings to make presentations stand out and takes the place of flip charts. You can use it on its own or in conjunction with PowerPoint. Included is everything you need to get started: Bluetooth Papershow digital pen; Papershow 256 mb USB key; Note pad for digital flipchart (48 sheets 9.4" x 12.6"); 30 sheets for printing on 8.5" x 11" sheets in inkjet or laser printers; 3 ink refills; 4 colored rings to personalize the pen; a penholder to carry the pen and USB key; and a binder to file and carry the Papershow sheets.

What I liked:

Papershow is very easy to set up and use. Since there is no software installed on the PC, you can use the program on any computer that has Windows XP or Windows Vista. Papershow starts up almost immediately. You have a choice of a variety of colors to use to write on the screen: white, green, blue, red, yellow, and black. You can also choose how thick a line you want to draw on the screen and can select different colored backgrounds on the computer screen. If you make a mistake it is easy to erase the mistake from the screen. You can use sound effects to enhance your presentation. It is easy to save files and you can email documents immediately. It is also very easy to import PowerPoint documents and write directly on those documents.

What I didn''t like:

In order to use Papershow you have to use special paper for both the presentation and printing the document this can get expensive fast. You also have to make sure you put the paper in the printer correctly if you put it in incorrectly, your subsequent writing will appear upside down (somewhat amusing when practicing, but not when making a presentation). The program seems to distort handwriting and often when I wrote next to a PowerPoint presentation, the writing onscreen did not match where I put it on the paper (this can be fixed by recalibrating the pen but again is frustrating during a meeting). When you print a document on the special paper it prints in shades of blue only, which is annoying when you are using charts and trying to differentiate between colors. Although you are supposed to be able to modify the background color of your whiteboard to something besides white, that option did not work for me at all.

Bottom-line:

Papershow has some good points but ultimately the minuses outweigh the plusses.

I thought I''d introduce this product to the teachers I work with when I got it. They liked it, but not enough to try it out in class. I, too, couldn''t think of a good way to incorporate it into class. My expectation upon ordering it was that I could use the pen to write on a pre-created worksheet much like an overhead, but on the computer screen instead. However, these visions were dashed once I opened the box. You can only write on the special paper that is included with the kit if you want your writing to appear on the computer screen. There were a few pieces of blank paper provided, but most of the paper provided was grid paper. I might as well write on the white board as to write on a piece of paper and have it displayed on a computer screen. There were some vague references in the material provided that it might be possible to use this with a power point presentation, but there really wasn''t enough instruction for me to figure out how I might use this software in conjunction with a power point presentation. In the end, I used the product only for a couple of days to write secret messages to my husband from across the room. But, really, that''s not what I''d hoped to use it for. Maybe with better instructional material and the ability to use this on paper other than the expensive paper I''d have to buy from this company online, I might have given it a better review.

OK, what drew me to this pen was the neat things I could use it for with my students. In this technology driven age its great to be able to use a smart board or a projector and have my students construct a story as a whole by coming up to the front of the class and writing their sentence that contributes to the whole. And for that alone, it was valuable.

But there is another kind of value, pocket-wise; Papershow has the ability to bleed you dry. If you want copies you have to be willing to pay more for the paper it uses and that can add up pretty quickly for individual copies. And that is the only reason why I can''t truly recommend this for my own personal use as a teaching age. It just doesn''t offer long term economical use.

HP Scanjet 8270 Document Flatbed Scanner (Silver/Black) Save 44% off

HP Scanjet 8270 Document Flatbed Scanner
  • Flatbed scanner performs fast document scanning at up to 25 ppm
  • Duplex-capable automatic document feeder allows you to get unattended scans of two-sided pages
  • Preview scans within just four seconds; easily adjust resolution to fit any job, from 150 dpi up to 4800 dpi
  • Dimensions: 22.6 x 7.7 x 15.7 inches (WxHxD); weighs 19 pounds
  • Scanner comes with a one-year limited hardware warranty and one year free phone support

BEWARE of using this if you are trying to scan to PDF especially if you use PaperPort software. The pdfs show up with a documate watermark on them indicating that it is a trial version. GOOD LUCK getting it off...tried the ScanSoft support they know it is an issue but their ''fix'' doesn''t work and you''ll have to pay $40 if you want to talk to someone. Still have not figured this out. Also, pages scan at 25pp per minute once they start going through the wait time at the start is long (even if you don''t use the energy saving mode).

Our library purchased the hp Scanjet 8270 Document Flatbed Scanner a little over a year ago and it worked fine up until a day or two after the one-year warranty expired. It started making a whirring noise and produced an illegible image. We have been advised by HP that they do not sell parts or repair scanners because they are manufactured in a dust-free environment. We paid about $900 for the scanner. We''ve been unable to locate an independent company that would repair the HP scanner and so the cost expended for this scanner has proved to be cost-ineffective. Because of the no-repair feature, I do not recommend its purchase for libraries.

This scanjet has met every need I had and performs really well. There are a couple glitches with the software but after some use I''ve adjusted to it and now can work with it.

The quality is excellent and I love the document feeder, which was the main reason I picked this scanner.

If I could do anything to change it, it would be to make it easier to operate regarding the buttons on the front that explain nothing and the manual doesn''t help. I had to work through the software and figure things out on my own. They COULD have made this into a great machine, but instead produced a product that leaves the customers disappointed and scratching their heads.

We have few of these scanners. They are continuously jamming and we have had to replace the feeders on some of them. Cheaply built, I would not recommend these scanners. We have alot better luck with Canon scanners.

Sony DPP-FP67 Picture Station Photo Printer

Sony DPP-FP67 Picture Station Photo Printer with Built-in 2.4-Inch LCD Tilt-Adjustable Display
  • Auto Touch-up for Red-eye Correction and Exposure Correction
  • Create 4x6¿ prints, Index prints, Photo ID prints, Calendar prints
  • Print lab-quality photos at home in about a minute
  • USB A-B cable included
  • Bluetooth Ready with optional BT adaptor (DPPA-BT1)

Wonderful printer but a few facts. 1. This model does not have a "tilt" display. It has a fixed tilted display not adjustable to ones height. The DPP-FP77 evidently does have an adjustable display. 2. Even though Amazon says that "people who bought this also bought" and shows the SVM-F75P ink and paper pack this pack is not compatible with the DPP-FP67. It does show the SVM-F120P pack which is compatible. 3. You can order this printer (DPP-FP67) now and get it right away (Prime 1-2 day delivery), but Amazon doesn''t sell the ink and paper packs for it. I got the printer but will have to wait a week or two for the ink and paper pack to come from N.Y. I borrowed some paper and an ink ribbon from a friend and am impressed with the printer but I think Amazon shouldn''t sell a product that they can''t support themselves and that claims a tilt display. They even wanted to charge me for returning the SVM-F75 saying that I ordered the wrong item and it was my fault. I had to call them to get it straightened out.

Wow. Incredible little printer. I was a little concerned about the DPI but the photos it produces look like film quality and there are absolutely no discernable pixels. Color is fantastic. Like everyone else mentions, beware of what paper you buy. Sony Photo Printer Paper 120 sheets (SVM-F120P/2) works. Note no paper or ink comes with the printer so you have to buy printer paper. Bought it for the kids who love watching the process of adding one color at a time but it''s also the best quality photo printer I''ve ever seen. Of course you''re limited to 4x6 prints but instant gratification serves my needs. Easy to set up, easy to use. It comes with zoom and crop features but even if you don''t feel like messing with that, all you do is stick in your memory card, page down to the photo you want and hit the print button. Highly recommended.

The printer is fine. But do not go for the upsale "people who bought this also bought". Among the items shown is the SVM-F75P ink and paper pack. This pack is not compatible with the DPP-FP67. I have know idea why Amazon tries to induce you to buy these 3 items together.

This little printer is extremely easy to use and almost no setup except loading the driver into your computer. It is faster then the last generation model, about 70 seconds per print. Being dye-sub type printer, it does go past the print head 4 times with the last time to apply a waterproof coat for a glossy finish. This self-contained mini-printer is loaded with features, many of which I have not even explored. I used to transfer my photos to my thumb drive, go to a supermarket to either order prints at the photofinishing counter or print from a kiosk. Now I just tweak my prints on my computer and print directly at home. The cost per print is about 30 cents and the colors are beautiful. I do have to adjust the picture size a little so the borders are even but that maybe caused by my camera? All in all, I have been very happy and satified with the Sony DPP-FP67 Picture Station Photo Printer and the paper/ribbon packs, the SVM-F120P.

I am a hobbyist photographer and I used this printer for my daughter''s school dance. For 3 hours, I shot posed photos and printed as I went. At the end of the dance, the guests picked up their photos. The printer was a little slower than I had hoped for the event and I wish it could hold more paper/ink at a time. However, for the price, I was pleased.

I love it that the ink comes packaged with the paper so you know exactly how much ink you will need. This made it easy to calculate my cost per print.

Five stars for paper quality, one for packaging accuracy. Average three.

Received my paper today as expected and when I opened it, it was single-sided, luster-finish photo paper. I checked the label and it stated that is was the double-sided matte paper that I ordered but the contents stubbornly continued to be photo paper.

Definitely a factory issue since the order selector selected the right product based on packaging.

I guess I''ll just keep it since it is great photo paper and will update this review if I decide to try ordering again. I may just order the Epson presentation matte paper instead.
