DYMO 1/2 Inch Flexible Industrial Strength Nylon Labels for Rhino 1000/3000 Label Printer

I''ve had a couple of different label makers and labels but these have been the best so far. I''m using them with a Rhino 1000 and I''ve found that they are easy to apply on computers and other electronics and don''t start to peel over time. They''re also water resistant and work well when attaching to themselves when wrapped around a cable. A little expensive but if you''re looking to have labels that stay attached to stuff other than paper even under some level of heat I would recommend these.

The Dymo labelers have been great for us. We started with Thomas and Betts labelers and then found out that the Dymo product is the original. If you are using T & B''s labels, why? Dymo makes the T & B product for T & B.

The poly can be hard and unflexable to work with. The nylon product does cost more per foot than the poly product, but it is so much easier to work with and it lasts longer. And the print does smuge as much either.

I use these labels in my Rhino label printer. The backs peel off in two sections which makes them easy to use, they stick very well, and also seem to hold up well.

Brother LC61BK Ink Cartridge (Black) Save 51% off

Brother LC61BK Ink Cartridge - Black
  • Yields up to 450 pages per cartridge @ 5% coverage
  • Innobella Ink + Paper = Genuine Brother Quality
  • Ink droplets of 1.5pl (picoliter)
  • Genuine Brother Supplies
  • For use with MFC290C, MFC490CW, MFC5490CN, MFC5890CN, MFC6490CW

Bought this to replace the "Starter" cartridge that came with my Brother MFC-490CW. Little did I know, this is a 2 pack of STARTER cartridges, which basically means you only get around 500 pages, instead of the 1500 you would get with a STANDARD cartridge! You can get the standard Brother brand in a 2 pack from Amazon, for the same price, here:

The product works, but the non-disclosure of this information makes it unacceptable!

Buy Brother LC61BK Ink Cartridge (Black) Now

I am supporting what a previous reviewer noted these are only starter cartridges, not full ones (it says so on the packaging that the cartridges come in). Again, while it doesn''t bother me that they are starter cartridges, I would have liked to know that that is what I was paying for the non-disclosure to the customer in the product listing is unacceptable. The full cartridges appear to be the same model number, as is the listing posted by the other reviewer, so how am I supposed to know that 400 pages = a starter cartridge?

Other than that, the first one inserted into my printer appears to be working fine. And the shipping to Canada was very reasonably-priced, and very fast (about 1 week!). So thank you for that.

Be sure to review the Seller Notes before buying. Amazon makes them hard to find but they are out there. TonerPals does not include retail box so expiration date cannot be checked. On this item TonerPals Seller note: "Genuine New Sealed OEM Brother LC61BK Black Starter Ink Cartridge from Brother. 2-Pack." Starter cartridges may not yield as much as standard cartridges. Maybe half as much.

BEWARE!!!

I only have second-hand reports as to the good quality of this ink, but I have first-hand experience that suggests the distributor here is storing them in a truly horrible manner. Right when I opened the package I saw that one cartridge had leaked inside its shrink-wrap. So I called Amazon, and after a bit of a go-around with a newbie agent, another agent refunded my money. I then proceeded to use the second cartridge. It lasted all of fifty pages and then the black, ONLY the black, faded out over a couple of pages and then disappeared altogether. Ink levels show it as full, but four cleanings produced nothing but blackless printing. From my technical background, I surmise that these cartridges were stored in a metal shed in the desert of Arizona (where the distributor is located), in the ATTIC of that shed where they reached temperatures approaching or surpassing the boiling point. Caused one cartridge to blow up and the other one''s ink to cook to a goo that has jammed up the works. If that stuff gummed up the printer, the company will be billed for repairs as well.

BEWARE!!!

First ink cartridge I got was a bogey. Nothing printed, not even on both cartridges. Had to get a replacement from Amazon (btw Amazon, you''re awesome). Don''t forget to clean the printer after you''ve installed your cartridges, sometimes nothing will print until you clean it a few times. (Yes, I did do it for my first package)

Nothing really much to say about it. It''s ink cartridges. For your Brother Printer. It''s an OK price for ~$15 a pack, it''s not a horrible price, but it''s not that great either. One thing you should note, is that the cartridges hold much more ink that the printer says it does.

The way the ink is read, is through the little window that you can see by pulling the front forward. When the ink says it''s out, tilt it and see if there''s any. If there is, all you have to do is cover the window up (I did it with electrical tape) and the printer will see it as "full" (it''s not full of course). Just keep printing until you run out of ink, and then swap it :)

BRTPPF4100 - Brother IntelliFAX 4100 Fax Machine

BRTPPF4100 - Brother IntelliFAX 4100 Fax Machine
  • Auto Document Feed (Pages) - 30
  • Broadcast Capability - Yes/82
  • Connector/Port - Parallel, USB
  • Cut Sheet Size - Letter/legal/A4
  • Delayed Transmission - Yes

After our old HP fax (910 series, I believe) kept getting paper jams as part of its daily routine, we searched and decided to try this Brother fax. A huge plus was having a paper tray where the paper sits horizontally, like our HP printers. This Brother fax was easy to set up, easy to program, and is easy to use. This machine scans faxes into memory immediately after you press the start button, THEN dials out, so if you have more than one fax to send to different places, you do NOT have to wait for the first fax to send before you go on feeding the other pages through. What a wonderful feature to have after so many years of not! We also use the "Fax Broadcasting" feature daily; it''s nice to get a report printed out after you ''broadcast'' a fax to several people, telling you the time the fax went through to each person, and that the fax did, indeed, go through. This fax machine is on a dedicated fax line, not hooked up to our computer system, and has been a wonderful addition. Absolutely zero regrets on buying this Brother fax.

My organization now owns three of these fax machines. Brother has great prices on their cartridges, these machines are easy to operate, the print-out quality is really good. We would recommend them without reservation.

Used this fax machine in a site construction office for a 5 Million dollar school remodel project. Is a real workhorse without no jams, down time or trouble of any kind. Great machine.

Pros: Laser so faxes are crisp and clear and cost to operate is really cheap. No problem with operation, worked for 2 years on project with several thousand faxes. Can do one touch faxes or group send, all the features you would want.

Cons: I can''t think of any, it worked in a very dirty environment, dusty construction site and is still working.

Want BRTPPF4100 - Brother IntelliFAX 4100 Fax Machine Discount?

We purchased two of these machines and after about 6 months began having trouble with both. One of them always pulled multiple sheets of paper and jammed when receiving faxes or printing copies. After replacing just about every roller in there, it worked for a few months, and now it''s back to jamming again.

The other fax was more reliable until just a month ago, when recipients began complaining of a black stripe down the side of their fax. We followed Brother''s recommendations and cleaned various parts inside, but the only thing that fixed it was unplugging and pluggings back in the power. Even then, it was only a temporary fix. A local repair shop estimates around $150 to repair what the think is a bad scanner.

Maybe I just got a bad batch of these, but I would suggest caution before buying one.

Product is perfect in every way except it is not compatible with Windows Vista 64bit. After upgrading my laptop, I can''t print to this unit any longer.

HP C6817A Professional BrochureandFlyer Paper

HP C6817A Professional BrochureandFlyer Paper - 50 Sheets
  • Glossy finish on both sides
  • 48 lb bond weight
  • 50 sheets per package
  • Standard 8.5-by-11-inch size
  • Ideal for all HP inkjet printers

I''ve been using HP''s Glossy Inkjet Brochure Paper (C6817A) for several years, and up until my most recent order, it''s been terrific. Good color rendition, fast drying time, great hand. Unfortunately, though they kept the name and the product ID number, they changed everything else about the product. It doesn''t take ink well (everything looks pale and washed-out, even rich black), and the hand is horrible. It actually squeaks. Didn''t care about drying time, since the pages went straight from the printer to the recycle bin, and the box went straight back to Amazon. The former version of the product was the only decent 2-sided glossy inkjet I''d ever found. Now there are none.

Despite the unfortunately small size of this paper (it''s letter rather than the more useful legal size) this paper is great for particular uses: if you''re just starting up a company or don''t anticipate the need for big print runs (more than 200) of the brochure you''re printing; if you *really* need full color printing on double-sided glossy paper but can''t afford to do it commercially; if you have no need to bleed your images to the edge of the panels/page; and if you don''t anticipate displaying the brochures in areas where water/moisture damage is possible

For some people, these are obviously some fairly serious limitations.

Brochures are, after all, usually subject to some mishandling and people frequently carry them into rain. By virtue of the printing technology, water may smear the print into illegibility. Likewise, businesses frequently do need to bleed to the edges of the paper just to maximize the use of the paper. Most ink jet printers, however, cannot, because of on-board, unalterable instructions print all the way to the edges of a letter-sized piece of paper.

But, again, if you''re just starting up--or if you''re printing for some non-profit organization--this paper shouldn''t be overlooked. It *does* produce great results, and the slick feel of the double-sided glossy paper is just like that of much more expensive, professionally printed brochures. To be sure, you want to ween yourself off this paper eventually in order to project a more solidly professional image. But as a short term solution, this is arguably better than one-color professional printing on ordinary paper. And it''s definitely better than any other ink jet solution.

This stuff produces laser-sharp text and graphics, but if you are interested in really fine photo production, look elsewhere.

At photo settings, the ink soaks into the paper and blurs the images. You need to try to use a combination of photo dithering (to keep the detail) but also medium to higher speed, so that it will lay down a minimum of ink and get it out fast.

I had also been using the old product for years to make flyers for my business. It was amazing paper. This new, updated version (also applies to the tri-fold paper) is terrible. The color is dull and washed-out. Plain paper looks tons better. Don''t buy this product, complain to HP to get them to put the old paper back!

This paper is 180gm and is yellow colored with brightness probably 60

and is semi-gloss on both sides.

This is not the quality of paper you will expect

from a respectable company like HP !

Buying this is a waste of money !

Brother PT-2700 Desktop Labeling System (Silver/Black)

Brother PT-2700 Desktop Labeling System
  • Professional-quality labeler can be used as a portable unit or connected to a PC
  • Huge, back-lit display shows 16-characters x three lines for easy viewing
  • Print up to seven lines, in eight font sizes and 12 type styles
  • Store up to 99 labels to memory or automatically print labels displaying the Time & Date.
  • Operates on the included AC adapter or 8 "AA" batteries (not included)

I have had one of the smaller Brother personal labelers for many years, and it sat there in its little case, waiting for those occasions when I needed a label badly enough to take it out and bother with it. Why the hassle? Because it had a tiny keyboard that required lots of SHIFT and FUNCTION key alternates to get at common characters and functions, and because the display was tiny and did not show enough information (such as what the label would actually look like, and how big it would actually be). The labels themselves were fine, and the machine worked reliably, though.

I called Brother and asked them about if they had a similar label printer that would just connect to my computer, so that I could design and see the labels before wasting label material in trial-and-error efforts. They told me that the model PT-2700, and its companion PT-2710 had recently been introduced with such request in mind. I had not seen these in my local office supply store, because Office Max often carries only the cheaper models in a line as large as the Brother P-Touch series. I went back to the store and lo! ....they had just started to carry the PT-2700 at less than $100.

I am delighted with this label printer. It is connected to my computer via USB, just like my other printers. I can use either, or both, of the two printing utilities that came with the printer. One is a very simple editor that gives basic functionality where you don''t care so much about exactly how big the label will end up, for example this ends up being much like the guess-work process of the older and smaller P-Touch labelers. The other utility is a full functioned label designer with every bell and whistle I can think of. It automatically knows which kind of label cartridge is currently plugged into the printer, and shows a scale image of that label on the computer screen. Any Windows font in any point size, with any effect can be used in the label design. You can have multiple lines, multiple columns, different test fields, automatically filled-in fields, bar codes, clip art, line drawings, etc. The display in this editor is very WYSIWYG. A ruler hovers over the label to show exactly how big it will be. You can vertically or horizontally justify text as well. There seems to be no limit on how many fonts, sizes and effects can be used on a single label. You can have a different font, size and effect for each character if you want.

The installation CD-ROM also adds a macro to Microsoft Office applications, basically giving you a P-Touch icon in the toolbar of those programs (much like Adobe Acrobat does). Any selected items in those applications will be copied to the P-Touch application by clicking that new icon (the application will automatically open if not already running). Formatting is copied over with the text, etc.

Clicking the PRINT icon in either utility will cause the printer to shoot out a label in just a few seconds; I would guess about 1" per every 2 second or thereabouts. The printer automatically cuts off the leading edge, because that part might be curled if the printer has been sitting for a while, unused. The printer also cuts off the label at the end. While it prints, it slits the backing paper so that it comes off very easily (the smaller P-Touch machines do not do this, and getting the paper off can be a pain).

The PT-2710 is the same as the PT-2700, with the addition of a carrying case this adds about $30 to the street price.

This printer uses the more expensive "TZ" series of tape cartridges. This kind of tape comes in a much greater variety of sizes, colors, and special types. TZ tapes also have a plastic lamination over the printing, so the image will not scratch off. Don''t ask me how they do this! One gotcha with these tapes is that they are stored inside the cartridge in a pretty tight loop on the reels. When the labels come out, they are not curled but watch out! When you remove the backing paper, they immediately want to return to their curled shape. Make sure that you have both ends of the label under some sort of control when removing the paper, of you will end up with a suddenly tangled bunch of plastic tape in your hands.

The printer can be used without a computer or USB connection. In this mode, it has a large blue-backlit LCD display with multiple lines. However, it is not WYSIWYG as you type your text and you can''t tell how big the label will be as you design it. Also in this mode of operation, you are limited to a few fonts and 8 point sizes from 6 to 42 plus Extra Large size. The keyboard is more typewriter-like than the smaller ones, at 7" wide, with a normal QWERTY layout requiring no FUNCTIONs or SHIFTS to get at the functions. I said before that it''s not WYSIWYG and you can''t tell the size...that is true only in text entry mode. There is a Preview button, and when this is pressed, the display shows you what the label will actually look like, pretty much at actual size (the display scrolls for wider label previews), and it tells you how wide the label will be at this time. In preview, the correct fonts and effects are also visible.

The TZ tapes come in sizes of 9/16", 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 3/4" and 1" wide. You can buy them in quite a range of colors. The basic is black on white, but common colors in the stores are black on yellow, red on white, etc. The Brother website lists a large variety of sizes and colors that are probably too specialized for most stores to stock; you can order them online.

There are 8 built-in fonts, from an Ariel-like sans-serif one called Helvetica, to a serifed one similar to Times Roman, plus script, stencil and other decorative fonts. You can select Auto type size, where the printer makes the text as large as possible while still fitting on the label, or you can select from the 8 font sizes. You can adjust the width factor of the characters, and you can apply styles to the fonts: these include Normal, Bold, Outline, Shaded, Heavy with outline shadow, and the same 5 choices with Italics applied.

The printer is very reasonably priced at around $100 street, and its build quality is very nice. It feels like quality equipment, although I have seen better-feeling small keyboards than this. The TZ tape is where Brother will get their money, since the cartridges run around $20 each, plus or minus a few dollars depending on how fancy the tape is. The iron-on and other specialty tapes are the most expensive.

The labels print at 180 DPI, which is not very high. When a label comes out, it seems crisp and precise in the appearance of the characters, but closer inspection will reveal very slight jaggies at the edges of slanted or curved shapes. To me, it looks like an ink-jet printer output when using cheap bond paper, when the ink has bled a little on the fibers. Since you will not be preparing long novels of small type with this machine, the quality is more than adequate, and it does look nice.

With such a nice machine and low price, Brother should do well with this printer.

I have been purchasing P-Touch labeling systems for about 20 years, and this is the best one ever. The PT-2700 has the new design. I particularly like the following new/improved features: (1) can choose full width, 1/2 width, and 2/3 width spacing; (2) trims both sides of a label if you choose narrow margins (saves tape); (3) individually adjust most important features; (and 4) accepts 1 inch tape.

UPDATE: This product (PT-2700) has been discontinued. This model has been superseded by model PT-2730.

I got to play with a labeler at my workplace a PT-60 Home&Hobby model, and I loved it. Well, I loved how easy it was to use and I just love feeling organized and having things nicely labeled. Prior to this, I was printing out labels using address labels, cutting them to size, then putting clear tape over them whenever I did not want them to get wet. Yeah I do no know how I''ve survived until now without a real labeler! Well, after using the PT-60, I started researching for my own labeler. At first, I was going to get the PT-85, but then I read reviews for the PT-2700 and I was hooked. I knew I would be using the labeler a lot so I wanted an ability to plug the machine into a outlet. I''m also a formatting freak and love fonts, cliparts, etc, and what a perfect match this PT-2700 is for me. I have not used it as a stand alone device, but it sits as a perpetual companion next to my computer because I use it all the time. There is a long review about this labeler that is very very good and comprehensive. It helped me determine which one to buy. But here are the things I love about this one:

1. Has AC adapter I haven''t used the batteries because like I said it''s always plugged in and hooked up to my PC via USB

2. Comes with USB (the PT-1950 functions similarly but you have to buy your own USB)

3. Formatting software is really easy to use if you install any new fonts, it automatically grabs those fonts so you can choose from them

4. I can print pretty labels (laminated, professional looking) and have used them for all kinds of purposes: spice bottles, food containers (when I''ve bought food in bulk and portioned them out), cosmetic sample containers (for travel purposes), file labels, my Treo, my pager, my jump drive, my favorite pens (see I''m a freak), storage containers in our garage, our circuit breaker, burned DVDs/CDs the list is endless.

5. You can save any label you''ve created. This is so awesome if you like a certain formatting, no need to re-invent the wheel -it saves so much time. One of my favorite functions!

6. You can print all font sizes even Arial 8pt is quite readable! The TZ tape is wonderful sticks really easily though I haven''t used them on rough surfaces. The split backing makes removal a cinch much easier than the labels created with the PT-60. I''ve only used the 1/2" tape and am still on the sample cartridge that came with the machine.

7. I got it for a steal at Staples recently when they offered a $50 rebate so in the end I''ll only have paid $49. I almost went with the PT-85 b/c I didn''t want to shell out $100. Just b/c hindsight is 20/20 if I had gotten PT-85 and then got a chance to play with this 2700, I would have really kicked myself!

8. My only complaint with this labeler (and it''s not unique to this one apparently) is that if you have it on the auto-cut setting, it creates a large margin when it prints out (even if you set the margins to smallest setting) and you waste a lot of tape. So I have it set on chain which means it doesn''t auto-cut. I print out one label and wait. Then I print out another & my first label appears and I use scissors to cut the first label. Yeah, to save tape, you''d have to have some patience but since I''m always labeling something, I don''t have to wait long! If I need it right away, I''ll go ahead & have it fed out and cut but the huge margins just kill me!

All in all, I''ve been enraptured by this new machine the fact that it excites me more than anything I''ve ever owned probably means I need to be on some type of medication. I did also order the PT-85 (just $25 on Amazon), but as a gift for my dad b/c he suffers from the same affliction I do. He''s going to love using it for labeling his pickling jars! I didn''t get him the 2700 b/c even though he has a computer, it usually intimidates him (the man still owns a typewriter for crying out loud! At least it''s a Brother :).

Update 10/10/12: I still have this labeler and it''s still in excellent condition. I use it all the time. I work in a pharmacy and I love to use the labeler to label shelves, filing cabinets, our counting robots, staff mailboxes, etc. The labeler sits on my desk at work, always connected to my PC. I see the price has gone up on Amazon used to see it for $99! It''s one of the best purchases I''ve ever made. I love seeing it on my desk. In our chaotic fast-paced ever changing environment, my labeler has been a constant reliable companion. When I see it on my desk, a certain peace settles over me. Yes, I''m on the same medication.

Want Brother PT-2700 Desktop Labeling System (Silver/Black) Discount?

Great product that works exactly as described. I have not used this as a stand-alone label maker; I''ve only used it with my computer. The software is fairly easy to use, and it will pull data from an Excel spreadsheet, which is a definite plus. I had a spreadsheet of over 300 items for which I needed to make labels, and linking to the Excel doc made the process very quick and convenient. The only complaint I have is that the tape for the label maker is rather pricey. I spent $40 on the label maker, and so far I''ve spent $60 on tape.

This is a great buy for a labeler. Main draw for me was being able to print 3 lines on the 1/2" tape. It works great and has a lot of frills. It can go throught tape a bit faster than I''d like with its clean edge feature that feeds and cuts before every new label, but this can be reduced by having it on chain labels.

Photosmart C309n TouchSmart Web All-in-One Printer w/Fax/Duplex/Wireless

Photosmart C309n TouchSmart Web All-in-One Printer w/Fax/Duplex/Wireless
  • Hp photosmart premium web aio printer

I''ve been a long-time HP All-In-One user & have watched their awful deterioration since the ''90s.

Their basic engine for scanning, printing etc still seems the best @ under $250 but they seem to be coasting on old R&D which has been reduced drastically in receint years.

These days they put these fine engines in boxes with cheap plastic hinges, etc and then by not offering replacement parts force you to junk otherwise working units.

Ink prices are getting stratispheric and this unit, each time you turn the printer on, seems to spit out vast quantities internally in "Head Cleaning".

In the ''old days'' you could control the frequency, if not the volume, of this "ink loss" but apparently no longer. "Just Trust HP" [the folks who tap the phones of their own Board Members] not to waste your ink dollars.

A printed Manual? Forget it! You''re directed to their web site where you find false & misleading information because the author failed to note that instructions for the touch-screen version of push-button models differ.

And when you use their handy E-Mail-For-Help function to point this out, they reply, not with correct instructions or a ''Thanks For The Heads Up'' but by telling you to use the Call Center they''ve hired in Bangladesh or somewhere.

Those folks are delightful to talk to but not for the two hours plus that it took the last time, WITHOUT ANY SOLUTION! [I eventually realized HP''s full CD was "choaking" mid-way through in my cd drive and I then just downloaded their programs from their web-site].

If you''re an Investor, selling HP short is redundant as they''re already doing it to themselves.

After a week or so of use, I could no longer connect to Wifi. After following the instructions on the support forum, I discovered that the printer had a "bad radio" and I would have to contact HP for a replacement (given the # of others that I''ve seen on the support forum with the same complaint, I can''t understand why this isn''t a recall issue, but that''s for a different soap box). I contacted HP support and was run through the same procedures I had already been through just to arrive at the same conclusion. I was then told that HP would contact me the next day so I could provide my CC # for a deposit on the replacement. 4 days later a rep called while I was in Surgery and provided a ticket # and # to call back. The call back resulted in being transferred 3 different times just to find out that I needed to call another #. Where the fun really begins is the # I was finally provided was the # I had originally called! Call me cynical, but this circular "support" scheme seems to be devised to discourage replacement. In addition, every support person I spoke with, while very cordial, were very difficult to understand d/t very thick accents.

After the 3rd round about, I was finally instructed to call a different #. At this point, I was told that my service ticket was useless and I had to provide serial/model #s, etc and repeat the troubleshooting process all over again.

JHC. Seriously? I understand that one customer to a company as large as HP really doesn''t matter, but how can they ethically conduct business in this manner?

I would discourage anyone from buying this product or any other from HP until their approach to consumer service is righted and the reliability of their products is improved significantly.

I cannot recommend this product for anyone with Mac OS X. The scanner simply does not work as it should. There is a common and well documented issue with the scanner interface in Mac OS X resetting the Source Size Field to zero. No matter what numbers you type in, for example 8.5" by 11", the size field resets and it prompts you to input new values before scanning. This problem can be avoided by not clicking on the details page but it''s on the details page where you adjust resolutions and the file name. Sometimes I want to scan black and white text documents and sometimes I want to scan pictures with archival quality i.e. scan it at a very high resolution. Neither Apple nor HP seem to have found a solution for this problem.

I cannot recommend this product as a scanner.

Printer eats ink too fast and jams paper when it doesn''t have a complaint about something else. And when it has a complaint, you cannot use it til it is ''fixed''. Needs refined. My experience is enough to make me never buy another HP product!

Great functionality, but... HP provided an online software update that crashed it 4+ months ago. We called HP support who attempted to trouble shoot and determined that a replacement was needed. This is when it got really bad (service)... HP somehow never received faxes, or scanned email receipts on multiple occasions and never replaced it. Delay after delay after delay. I would not recommend HP printers at all. The printer was on warranty and was less than 5 months old when the issues started.

We made amazon.com aware and they eventually made it right with us when HP would not.

Canon P1-DHII Handheld/Portable Printing Calculator

Canon P1-DHII Handheld/Portable Printing Calculator
  • 12 digits and single live memory
  • Serial impact printer with ink roller
  • Extra-large Liquid Crystal Display
  • Dual paper supply system (internal/external installation)
  • Canon AC adaptor AC-360 included

I recently bought this calculator. Does anybody out there know how to insert the paper into the miniscule space they give you. This is a worthless product and the manual is no help at all. It might even be a decent calculator but what good is it if you can''t get the paper roll to insert into the thing. POS

I concur with Dan Dan. Canon makes many great products but the paper feed function with this item is horrible to say the least. I consider myself a tech savvy person and mechanically inclined to a certain degree but I cannot successfully load the paper roll into this machine. As it sits, it is a fancy calculator, but it is not being used for it''s intended purpose. Look elsewhere.

After reading the reviews,it seems like the company must have changed something on this calculator. I owned this calculator for many, many years. It was one of the greatest tools ever bought. There is a small roll of paper that fits inside the calculator. This makes it great for store shoping, especially when you have several children. The paper had to be ordered from an 800#,which I no longer have.I was looking for this for some time,as mine finally "died" after years of hard use.Am looking to buy this and try it for myself, since mine is no longer "alive".

for a non-commercial grade machine, it definitely meets my expectations. it prints and copies quickly enough and the quality is absolutely fine. the energy saver mode keeps the machine quiet when not in use. it''s easy to use, and it''s nice having all the multifunctions in one unit. fyi, i initially had problems because my usb cable was ten feet long. the user manual does not warn of problems with long cables, but canon''s fast and knowledgeable tech support folks solved that for me quickly. i''m a little annoyed that i must specify in the print dialogue box each time i want to use the manual feeder (aka multi purpose tray); the machine does not automatically detect paper in the manual feeder and print from it unless i first specify manual paper tray in my print dialogue box. it''s nice to have the printer and fax available to my entire network via the cat 5 cable, but unless i''m mistaken, the only way to scan to your computer is through the usb cable, which meant that after installing the network drivers i installed the usb drivers and now have a confusing number of drivers in my print dialogue box drop down menu. i probably can remove the network drivers from the one computer that''s connected via the usb, but i haven''t tried that yet, and i wish the setup instructions made that clearer. also, the scans initially were coming out unacceptably faint until (again with the help of tech support) i lowered the scan resolution setting and changed from black-and-white to grayscale. the fax interface is a little annoying in that i can''t access fax numbers from my outlook contacts and if i add an address to the canon fax address book there does not appear to be a way to delete it. overall, the machine is easy to use and performs with excellent quality. i am not disappointed.

This is the first multi-purpose printer/fax/scan that isn''t a combination of cheap imitations of all three. The printer is really very good, fairly fast, and easily handles creating two sided output. The scanner is the best I''ve had, the feeder and all of the mechanics are solid and reliable, and once set up it has exceeded expectations.

We liked our Canon ImageClass D780 a lot, but after 5 years it needed repairs expensive enough to prompt us to replace it. The cost of the D1150 was about the same retail price as the D780 but doesn''t compare. Biggest complaint: you can''t fax manually to more than one number at a time. The only way to send to multiple destinations is to create an entry and give it a name and number. We fax to mostly new destinations, so that option is an unacceptable time waster. Another annoyance: it wrinkles the edge of our envelopes, and the envelope holder holds a smaller stack than the older machine. The output tray is situated such that it''s hard to see if there is anything in it unless you''re very close. These are the things we don''t like so far. We''ve had the D1150 for only a month and wish we could send it back. I will say that it''s faster than the old multifunction, but I''d trade that small increase in speed in a second for the functionality and user-friendliness of the D780.Canon imageCLASS D1150 Laser Multifunction Copier (3478B005AA)

Want Canon imageCLASS D1150 Laser Multifunction Copier (3478B005AA) Discount?

This multifunction unit does most things decently except for 2-sided scanning of paper that has been folded (for example, a letter in a standard envelope). Anything that is folded more than one time, like a bank statement that comes in the mail, will jam the ADF about 70% of the time. It happens when the machine tries to back feed a page to scan the back side. Better quality paper does seem to improve your odds of success, but we don''t control what kind of paper the bank uses. This is really disappointing, because it really puts a kink into my plan to scan all of my paper documents, many of which are 2 sided and came in the mail. The work around is to manually place each page (front and back) on the glass and bypass the ADF.

Aside from this, this machine does everything else decently. This machine prints really fast, has a short init time from initial start up (2-3 sec), and the quality of the output is pretty good. It prints 2 sided automatically, and does so reliably. Scan quality is decent more than enough for archiving documents, faxing and the like. However, if you are archiving family photos, you will want to use a dedicated photo scanner instead, like an Epson Perfection V600. Faxing is straight forward and intuitive, with several receive options in case you are not using a dedicated fax line. Built-in network print server is very useful and reliable. Connects to the network using hardwire ethernet.

Some annoyances: (1) There is a quirk with printing envelopes from the manual feed tray. You need to press the manual tray button and then select the paper size, every single time you use the manual feed tray. I''ve never had to do this with other printers. (2) This machine always wakes up around 2:00am from sleep mode, makes a lot of noise, and then goes back to sleep. It is loud enough to wake you up.

Overall, aside from the 2 sided scanning problem, this is a pretty decent machine.

We bought this Canon for our Construction Business because our previous Canon (the MF4690) died. We like Canon products and find them, generally, to be great working items. We were, however, not shown that same quality in this machine. The very first night we had it hooked up we had a power outage which put the printer offline. We looked in the physical manual and the e-manual for how to fix this and all it said was that if a power outage occurs, the only thing we can do is copy. So we had to call customer support. They were extremely helpful and kind, so that was a plus. That being said, we had to delete the device from every computer on the network and re-install it on all of the computers to get it to function properly; not happy about that. We also found out that although the manual tells you how to set up the e-mail/send option, this model does not do that the manual is for 4 models combined. The next day we tried to scan some items and were unable to. We looked, again, in the physical manual and the e-manual and could find no reason for it to not work. Again we called tech support and it was then that they informed us that we could not scan anything without a USB cable plugged in. They informed us then that the ONLY thing this printer does via the network is print very inefficient and inconvenient. The manuals tell you nothing of how to troubleshoot any incident and say nothing about how to fix a problem. Generally useless post set-up. The only function this copier does well most of the time is copy. The print is amazing looks like original version, and we are willing to concede that. However, it doesn''t always fully copy we used the ADF (ATF?) part of the machine (the top part not the glass surface) to copy and half of the pages it did fine, but on some of the pages it cut portions of the print and margin off. We are sending this model back and getting another Canon MF4690 for half the price that works great, has the e-mail/send function, and scans without needing a USB. Don''t recommend this copier to anyone using it for office/business purposes.
