It''s an ok machine for occasionally printing a few sheets of paper. But the paper feed is really poor, often pulling in a whole bunch of sheets at the same time. And if you need to print envelopes don''t bother; very often it jams up.

The feeder on this printer does not work as I expected based on previous experience with HP printers. Printing labels has been the most frustrating. The feeder pulls the label sheet in crooked, or it pulls it too far in, or not far enough in. I have also experienced the problem of the feeder pulling 10 sheets in at once.

The other reviews about the feeder issues are correct. Other than that its an ok printer if you are not doing big jobs. The ink in CONSTANTLY running out..seems like I have to put in a new ink cartridge every week. I do print everyday but I dont print HUGE amounts everyday. Also, there is no generic ink for it on the market so you are stuck buying the expensive stuff.

I have been using this printer for past 4 years and there is no issues. I print around 30-40 pages per month. I keep changing ink cartridges as required. No maintenance, works well. No paper jam, color and b/w are great. No complaints.

I got this as a gift, been using it for about a year. It works best when it turned off. Forget about using it for envelopes, just smears the address. Its does not take up to much space, and that''s good. On/off switch does not work will, most of the time it just stays on. Does not know when you have paper in the tray, and don''t put to much in, will not load.

I received this product as part of the Amazon Vine program. It came as a bonus to the HP Officejet Pro 8500A Wireless e-All-in-One (CM755A#B1H) I received to test drive.

After printing off a newsletter and a photo or two with regular paper using the 8500A, I was disappointed to find that the paper was overly saturated with ink and the images were not as sharp as I would have liked. When I traded the regular paper for the Hewlett Packard HP Premium Presentation Paper 120g, Matte (8.5" x 11") (Two-Sided) (150 Sheets/Package), Part Number Q5449A, it made all the difference!

Images whether photos or graphics were sharp and bright on this paper. The text was too. Colors were true, and the matte finish was easy on the eyes.

Because of this paper being ''two-sided'' (I thought that was funny because ALL paper is two-sided isn''t it...), it is specially coated on each side to not let ink soak through to the other side. I didn''t notice it doing it when both sides were printed, but initially was worried as when I did a photo on one side without doing the other side, I did notice some spots seemed to bleed through slightly. That could be my printer an inkjet who thinks she''s a laser printer just shooting the ink a bit more heavy handedly than others may.

Overall I''m very pleased with this paper. It''s not a super thick paper, but would work very well for school, home and office projects with lots of graphics or photos. Being ''two-sided'' it also will cut down on using too much paper. Essentially, when you purchase this box of 150 sheets...it''s like buying 300 because you can use both sides and have the end-product come out equally fabulous.

I love the way my portraits printed on this paper! Simply beautiful. The texture was what I like. I do not care for glossy and this was better than a matte finish.

It''s really nice having the second tray for my printer. I got tired of having to adjust and load legal paper every time I needed to print legal size documents and then re-loading standard paper when I was done. Sometimes I print documents that have both letter and legal size pages and it was just too cumbersome. This solved that problem and the price was very cheap.

Brother HL-4040cn Color Laser Printer with Built-in Network Interface

Brother HL-4040cn Color Laser Printer with Built-in Network Interface
  • Up to 21ppm color and monochrome printing
  • Ethernet and Hi-Speed USB 2.0 interfaces for networking (cables not included)
  • 300-sheet paper capacity
  • High capacity replacement toner cartridges
  • PC and Mac compatible

Got this printer due to my 2 other very positive Brother Laser printers, HL5240 & MFC7840W, both excellent, fast and very reliable, the second reason is my old favorite, Konica Minolta 2300DL (Color Laser) is dying and hoping to combine the function with my still working Brother HL5240 to save space.

Involved with design and illustrations, I print 80% of my work & documents in full color or combination text & color images, in short, I''m very color sensitive.

Brother HL 4040CN is very easy to network even with Multi Window OS desktops, my home office got 2 Vista, 2 XP pro & a XP Media Center PC. Very fast and good text printing quality, actually the color is not even that bad, if I''m not that sensitive.

Pros:

Easy to install and network.

Flip up LCD minimized glare and makes it easy to read the text and ink monitoring.

Fast wake up from sleep or energy saver mode, I really like the light blinking when the machine it in progress or warming up.

Easy front access both for toner replacement, paper tray & bypass paper slot, kind of idiot proof.

Noise level when printing and warm up is comparable to my other laser printers, probably less.

Heavy and looks like it''s very well built.

USB interface on the front is a plus.

Cons:

Color prints are warmer and slightly purple & green compared to the output from my Epson Inkjet & Magicolor prints.

On the Green side, I think Brother should redesign their packaging, the unit is almost the same size as HP but the box is 100% more, it''s so big that I can''t even fit it in regular NYC yellow cab, I probably need to rent a UHAL van the next time I buy one of this.

I was trying hard to love this printer and keep it even though the color prints are a little off, not until when my nephew drops by, look at the print and said to me, "nice terrazzo floor with beige field and gray border", with that comment, I realized it''s time to return the printer, since the actually floor have white field and green borders.

In fairness, I replaced this with a HP CP1518ni, Hp is even worst, prints much darker than any of my color laser, slower than Brother, slightly prints more red & orange, not as sharp and very muddy. I end up getting another Konica Minolta, Magicolor 2550, it''s the closes match of a laser print that you could get to a decent ink jet print. But if I have to pick between Brother and HP from this experience, I''ll take Brother without hesitation. And finally.....Thank you Staples, you are the best.

I was a bit concerned by other''s reviews regarding the edges curling but tried an in-store demo prior to purchasing it at the best price I could findhere at Amazon, and didn''t find it to be a huge deal. I do find there is a slight curl but for me it seems go away as the pages sit on my desk and the color is far more superior to other demos I tested in the same price range so I''d definitely recommend this printer.

I picked this printer up at Øffice Ðepot yesterday and with some help because it weighs 64 pounds, got it home. Setup is very easy, even for someone without any experience with computer hardware. Just push a tab in, open the front, remove all the bright orange shipping things, pull out the drum unit, slide in the toner cartridges which match the letters (K into K, C into C, etc..), install the software, plug in the USB or Ethernet cable (which you supply yourself), and you are ready to print. Before you print, however, make sure you open the printer settings and configure it the way you want. Also access the printers menu and configure those. The DirectPrint option to print PDFs and JPG files from a USB drive directly is nice, but some USB drives will not work (Corsair Voyager will not). For the price it is an excellent printer, coupled with the fact that it comes with standard (not starter) toner cartriges, you can print hundreds of pages before you have to buy new toner.

This is a decent color laser printer at a good price. In terms of price, the printer with toner cartridges sells for little more than the toner cartridges alone. Maybe they are buying the toner refill business by giving away the printer itself. Another plus: it connects to my router so I can share it between my wireless Mac laptop and my PC desktop (even when the PC is asleep), which is great. Now the bad news. It''s a lot bulker than it looks just by seeing the picture. Make sure it fits your room and you''re comfortable with the weight before you buy. Second, the quality is no better than the Canon Ink jet printer I replaced. Part of this is because the default setting on the HL 4040 is 600 dpi. To get the higher resolution, you have to tweak the defaults. So if you really need a color laser, this may be a great choice. But if you''re expecting it to be better than an ink jet in terms of print quality, you''ll be disappointed.

Supplementary comment: the printer says all color toner cartridges are empty when they aren''t even close to being empty. You should be able to use the cartridge until the color stops, but that''s not how it works. This is a huge waste of money (it''ll easily double your cost of cartridges). So you need to learn how to unscrew the end cover of the cartridge and reset the internal switch that is triggered after a certain number of cycles. Not a step for the average user to take nor should it be necessary. Seriously, this is a show stopper.

An excellent printer engine, industrial and massive. A bit of a company printer at a consumer entry point.

Found the documentation to be poor, the illustrations were from CAD and not very helpful at installing the cartridges for the first time.

But persistence paid off and now I can''t help but love this printer. If you need to do some volume work and don''t like fettering away monies on inadequate sized ink cartridges, this is a great way to go entry level with color laser.

After about 8 months, haven''t experienced significant paper warp or any dark color banding issues. 1/3 paid for itself in inkjet cartridge refill costs.

Ok, even I admit that was horrible. Either way, they are good quality transparency films at a good price. Origionally I got a casette drive cleaning tape from the person selling me mine but I got the right stuff eventually and it works fine. I use mine to make negatives for making stencils with photo-emulsion and over-priced 110 micron screens also purchased from amazon. They work fine with the only issue being that they ocasionally leave a line of uncooked emulsion around where the sheet ends that gets washed out, leaving me to have to tape the stencil screen. Was that a run on scentence?

The Canon i250 is marvelous. My old HP died, and I wanted an inexpensive printer now because I expected at a later date to buy a new computer and a higher tech printer. Now I need neither. In other words, the Canon i250 allows me to print wonderfully what I thought only higher tech/higher priced printers would! I''ve been able to print greeting cards, as well as photos and crisply clear documents. The i250 only takes seconds to warm up, and each print job is done quickly and beautifully. This printer allows one to choose a variety of print qualities and paper types to ensure the best print for each job. Set up was super easy, as is the printer''s use. And noise? It''s not excessive; I never even give it a second thought. Along with superb performance and inexpensive price, another great thing about the i250 is that I can buy both a black and a color refill cartridge for it for less than I''d pay for one HP cartridge. What a super printer bargain!

Where do I start? This little bugger is AMAZING! I actually bought this for my son, because he got an iMac (being the Apple freak he is), and his printer was ailing. So I told him if he found one under $75 I''d get it. He did. He found the Canon i250.

This little guy is so good! The quality is exceptional (and beautiful w/ Mac OS X font-handling.) and he can use it for everything, even printing photos. Now, I don''t recommend it for exclusively photos, but for the occasional one, it''s fine. Also, refills won''t break the bank with about $7 and $15 respectively. Printing time is short; very efficient and quick. Also, it comes with many features that are considered as ''extras'' with the others HE looked at. The only problem is it doesn''t come with a USB cable, and that''s all it''s compatible with. But that''s OK... I found a Belkin for about $5. I would recommend this to anyone, especially for document designers and offices for its ''bang for the buck''. Amzing features, reliability, efficiency/speed, and quality wrapped in a (very) tiny (perfect for portability.) package that won''t break the bank.

I love this printer. It has a small footprint, low cost ink, great print quality, fast print speed, and easy to use printer drivers. I also like the Paper In Tray which can be closed to cover the printer to keep dust out. However, it is much noiser than my old Canon S200 printer. It also takes a while for it to complete its warm-up routing before it actually starts printing. But when it does start printing it is fast. I also noticed that it only has one rubber wheel to feed paper into the printer unlike the S200 which had 2. Thus, there are times when the paper can get fed into the machine a little skewed especially if you are using very thin typing paper. But on the whole I still love this machine.

Want Canon i250 Color Bubble Jet Printer Discount?

I''ve used many printers before from HP, Lexmark, Epson, and others. This printer stands alone as simple, sleek, sharp & clear, fast, small, easy-to-use, and pocket-friendly. Get it now and you won''t regret it.

At its value price point, perhaps you can''t expect perfection from the Canon i250,(...) I find very few reasons to complain.

First off, the quality of printing was surprising for a standard, 4 ink printer, even on digital photos. For photo prints, does it perform as well as, say, an HP Photosmart 7960 with its 8 inks (which is over 4x the cost)? Of course it doesn''t. But for routine use, even on the occasional photo, it''s really not bad.

When in its normal printing mode, it''s not a speed demon, but it does perform reasonably well, and is typical of printers in its class.

On the up side, consumables for this printer are remarkably affordable, providing somewhat of a disincentive to pursue refill kits. They also seem to have a fair and reasonable number of prints per cartridge change. But if you do choose to refill, I''ve found the print cartridges in the i250 refill easily and effectively, free of print-counter chips (so popular in Epson''s printers these days) that are such a pain.

And speaking of Epson, recent Epson inkjets I''ve used will end-up with clogged print nozzles if the printer sits unused even for only a couple of days. Not so here; I''ve gone weeks between prints, and it fires-up and works perfectly each time.

Also a plus is the printer''s compact size. While you still need to allow space for paper movement, when not in use, the top folds down and it''s small, shoebox size let''s you put it most anywhere.

Truly, at this price, almost anyone can afford one, and it''d be money well spent in my book.
