Epson Velvet 17 x 22 Inch Fine Art Paper 25 Sheets (S042097) Save 47% off

Epson Velvet 17 x 22 Inch Fine Art Paper 25 Sheets
  • 17 x 22 velvet fine art paper.
  • Museum quality, acid-free base to preserve fine art and photos.
  • 100% cotton rag for archivability.
  • Bright white surface for excellent color reproduction.
  • Enhanced 1440 dpi printing for high-quality output.

5 stars for the paper. I''ve tried many sample packs, and Velvet Fine Art Paper produces the best B&W shadow detail on my Epson 3800.

However, Amazon''s packaging for shipping is a roll of the dice, so 1 star for Amazon. Of the two times I''ve ordered the 17x22 from them, once it was packed in a box (good) but the second time they just slapped a label on Epson''s lightweight packaging and sent it out to face the indifferent handling of Fedex (bad). That arrived with a dinged corner. I was lucky and the damage wasn''t too bad and won''t be seen under a mat, but anyone who is buying paper that costs $4 a sheet is probably pursuing perfection, and bent corners seriously detract from perfection.

To Amazon''s credit, they did credit my account $25 when I complained, and did say that they would notify their shipping department as I suggested. However, next time I''ll probably order from Calumet, B&H or Adorama--there is a better chance that their shipping departments know something about how to pack fragile photographic materials.

I''m a fanatic for big prints (minimum 17 x 22 paper) and print on an Epson 7900 (24" wide by unlimited length)and ultra-accurate color. After years of printing on every paper you can imagine, I''ve settled on two as my favorites: Epson Cold Press Bright, and Epson Velvet. Love them both for accuracy, instant drying, a little toothiness (roughness of surface texture) which adds to the three-dimensionality that I try to produce in camera.

I don''t personally like glossy or satin surfaces--that''s just my preference. Accordingly, Velvet is one of my primary go-to papers. Cannot recommend it highly enough--it is terrific.

This is beautiful paper, but it turns out it is incompatible with the 3800. The printing results aren''t good.Wish it did better because its weight & surface texture are spectacular.

  • Paper is dispensed 30 Inches off of the floor
  • Stores ten letter-size 500-page paper reams
  • Tension elevator lifts reams every time one is removed
  • Easy to load and easy to assemble

UPDATE: this continues to function well several months later despite heavy use.

Wow I just reclaimed a bunch of space in my small office with this and am very happy with it. It goes together without tools and the directions are very good. Paper drops right in, just as advertised, and comes out easily too. I gave this five stars because the $58 price I paid was very reasonable considering the quality. It is not "high" quality the sides are a plastic-type of cardboard which will rip or run a little if you bump it, but even with a few dents/runs it will be strong enough to last. However, I''m more concerned with the tension bands they''re rubber tubes (not springs) like bungees without the nylon. As a result, I worry that these will rot and fail eventually. That could be two to ten years from now, so the desk "real estate" I''ve "leased" in the mean time is well worth it. It''s worth buying two if you use differnt paper types for draft and final reports. It''s on roller-wheels that roll just fine on my seamless parque floors, and although I''d expect low office carpet without too much padding will work just as well I would worry about uneven tile or hardwood because the rollers are medium size and the frame-clearance low. I''m not sure I''ll ever roll this around, however, because it doesn''t fit under my computer worktable. They''d need another rating-star if it was 2" shorter and slid out of sight! What a great product I don''t know that I''d pay any more for better tension bands or frame because the price is perfect for the materials and the materials are more than sufficient. I''ll update this post if the bands ever fail so we can get an idea of how long they''ll last.

After years of supporting printers with these printheads, I generally haven''t had many problems. It can definitely be difficult to figure out which printhead needs replacing, despite what the display says. Make sure to wipe the contacts clean on all printheads before replacing any. Replacing all at once may be a good strategy.

  • HP Auto Red-eye Removal, HP Adaptive Lighting
  • Standard Connectivity USB
  • 4.60lbs (LxWxH) 18.07"x 18.90"x 5.67"

I''ve been using this for about a month now for my small business. The quality and speed are wonderful. It''s quiet and prints black like a laser printer. The quality is THAT good. The color is on par with the best Epson photo printers and excels when using high-end, glossy super-bright HP paper. The photo quality with the optional photo inks is amazing. Even with the standard inks the photo print quality is superb. Installation is super easy and can be completed by even a novice with HP''s "Quick Start" sheet included with the printer. XP loved it and recognized with no problem.

My only complaint is the paper tray only holds 100 sheets and the paper path is curved so is not ideal for some adhesive-backed labels and form types and for thicker stock. Some grabbing has happened. But overall it is an excellent printer fully at home with everything from full-color graphics (I do graphics design) to more mundane black text-based forms, letters and invoices. I love it. Small and low profile too. I HATE the stupid sticker that HP puts on the lid that DOES NOT come off with anything that won''t damage the glossy plastic finish. Don''t advertise to me on something I already bought and PLEASE make that sticker removable. It''s really ugly. Other than that it''s great.

I''m a college student and decided to get my own printer for my room because I was tired of going to the living room computer to print out my schoolwork. So far, the 5440 has been good to me, but I have one problem: The black ink smudges when I print on soft gloss or high gloss photo paper. Am I supposed to use HP Photo papers? I didn''t have this problem with my old Hp deskjet printer. I waited for the next day and it still smudged. that''s my only complaint. UPDATE: it smudges on kodak soft gloss paper.

I just got this printer and I''m impressed. The quality and speed are very good. When I use Fast Draft mode, it prints like my old printer (an Epson Stylus Color 880) did in normal mode. There''s no lines and I really recommend this printer, especially if you are a student looking for a cheap alternative to paying for printing in your university computer lab (10 cents a page at my university).

After realizing that the ink for my old HP was getting to expensive, I bought the HP 5440 and I love it! Its small design allows it to fit anywhere, it prints fast and the color phots are awesome! For the price this printer was a great buy! Highly Recommended!

I needed to replace my old Epson Stylus 777 printer and wanted just a basic printer to use to print out documents. The HP 5440 is great at what it does and I would recommend it to anyone.

This paper is not the quality of HP paper. It is a little to light, and the edges are also a little ragged on the end you feed into a plotter. But the value is good. It''s good for check-sets, but I wouldn''t use it to submit plans.

Bought this for the wife to do some scrapbooking. Thought for sure the other reviewers must have been doing something wrong. Nope. This thing has a mind of it''s own...especially if you try to print anything larger than 8 1/2 X 11. HP has not perfected home user wide format printers yet.

I returned it for the Canon i9900 wide format printer which, granted, was $100 more but the quality is simply amazing. 91 positive reviews can''t be wrong. I was so impressed with the Canon quality that I scooped up a PIXMA 780 All-In-One for myself. Also a tremnedous number of positve reviews there as well. Much cheaper ink, better quality how did I miss these the first time. Live and learn from my experiences.

I purchased the HP9800d with two tasks in mind: to do production printing of sales materials and to print digital photos in high resolution, large format. I am disappointed to conclude that the 9800 will do neither. In short this printer will not come close to doing what it is advertised to do. I have been the full distance with HP customer support and they also agree that it will not perform yet they did not respond to my request for a refund. I have spent enough time, money and wasted paper to have bought three of these things, or better yet one good printer. This does not include the cost of sales materials mailed late and of poor quality.

Lets start with printing photographs. The printer is advertised to print at a simulated 4800dpi at up to 13x19 inches borderless. One would assume (foolishly) that the printer will do both at the same time. I am a graphics professional using industry standard software, Photoshop CS2 and QuarkExpress 6.5, my computer is an Intel based graphics workstation running XP pro. Sometimes I can get the printer to print an 8x10 at maximum resolution; I have never gotten it to print larger unless I drop the resolution down to best. HP support responded that best and maximum are almost the same so don''t worry about it. If you want to print borderless in Quark, HP support will instruct you to use the old 9600 printer driver and set it to the default printer for that printing job. What a bogus solution when working in a networked environment, no one knows which driver is currently set and the printer tends to get confused along with us. If I send it an 8.5x11 from Quark with 4 full frame images it will only print 3 of them, leaving a hole in the layout. Thus we are forced to design our layouts around what the printer likes not our customers.

Now let''s look at production printing. The 9800 is rated by HP to print 5,000 pages a month. That is 10 reams of paper. One would assume that at this rate the 9800 could do small production runs of specialty sales materials, which is one of HPs advertising points. We have been trying to print a 20 page catalog using two sided printing. We are using HP bright white paper. Paper handling is very poor. Many times it will refuse to pick up paper from the tray, we have found that if you only put 50 or so sheets of paper in the tray it works a little better but is still unreliable. We will set a print job and come back to find that only 2 or three sheets out of 100 have printed, repeat this a dozen times and the schedule is now shot. The 9800 has a nasty habit of pulling several sheets at once from the tray resulting in blank pages in the document and blowing two sided print order. This means that we have to go through every catalog, by hand, and look at every page to make sure they are there and correct and then go back and print the pages that are missing. Do that 100 times and now check your schedule again. To top all this off, paper outfeed is unreliable also. Printed sheets being ejected from the printer will catch sheets already in the out tray pushing them off onto the floor in a big pile. Great way to get the day started to come in in the morning and find 100 sheets of catalog in a big pile on the floor, completely mixed up and out of order, and don''t forget some pages are missing and there are blank pages in there also. Now where did that sales schedule go?

If you connect the printer via USB and load the toolbox software you are in for a computer crash. The software attempts to establish bi-directional communications with the printer and cannot. It will continue to load copies of the toolbox and continually ping for the printer until it uses 100% of cpu time and grinds the machine to a halt. How many poor consumers are out there wondering why their computer hates them when they just bought it a new printer?

In summary, the 9800 might serve a snapshot photographer where demand and expectations are low. It is no where near satisfying a professional graphics artist. The 9800 might serve a very small office that does occasional printed mailings of low resolution and they have the time to baby sit the printer and double check it''s output. The 9800 is definitely not the printer that HP would lead you to believe and I would not recommend for demanding professionals. The 9800 is a consumer printer, at best, that is posing as a professional machine. I have worn out piles of HP printers over the years and have been a very loyal customer. When it comes to the 9800 I feel that I was grossly mislead by HP and then left to hang when they could (would) not address the issues. Any equity or good will that HP had built with me over the years (and there was a lot) they cashed in when they sold me this printer. Rather than just going out and buying HP I will shop the field.

What I find puzzling is why HP continues to churn out new printers even before the latest models are put on display, making all sorts of changes, but ignoring completely the old problems that are handed down from generation to generation.

Like its predecessors, this fancy-shmancy printer promises much for people who need to create posters, flyers, banners and so on, but as usual fails to deliver the goods.

It works great for the ordinary stuff printing letter sized documents from e-mail, Word, Excel etc. with all the settings on "normal", and even does pretty well printing high resolution pictures on photographic paper, but when it has to get down to anything more complicated, it shivers, balks and then goes into a blind panic, creating havoc and paper destruction with wild abandon.

Firstly, this one uses completely different ink cartridges to previous printers, and to add insult to injury, these are smaller than the old ones. Even though there''s a very helpful feature that tells you how much ink you have left, it only serves to annoy you when you see that you are just two days away from shelling out more money for new cartridges.

Secondly, my previous HP printer allowed me to create a letter-sized document and then enlarge it to 11" x 17" with a couple of clicks. If this one has that feature it''s too well hidden for me to find it, and I gave up trying. If you need a flyer done, and were thinking of blowing it up to make a matching poster the least irritating way is to change the paper size settings and just enlarge everything manually. If you only need a poster, make sure you set the size first. On the subject of size, this printer assumes you know the dimensions of paper with the codes A3, A4 and so on, and only by "Googling" did I confirm that 11 x 17 goes by the alias "tabloid".

If you need to print a bundle of flyers, and planned to print them in the economy fast mode, don''t even consider setting it to 25 and going for coffee. Even if you fan the paper until your co-workers complain about the chill, the printer will work itself up into a frenzy, and begin printing your document in random pieces on multiple sheets of paper, and spitting the results at you with almost religious fervor. You also have to remember to indicate that you don''t need the two-sided printing, or you''ll get a bunch of blank pages in the middle of the pile of 150 sheets it used to print your 25 flyers, most of which look like bits of a jigsaw puzzle.

The "Cancel Print" button still doesn''t work properly, and you''ll have a lot of wasted paper if you need to stop a print job. The control buttons have now been moved from the right hand side like every other printer I''ve ever owned, and are now on the left hand side, so that I have to do yoga stretches over the desk to get to them.

On the good side, it prints regular documents quickly and with good quality, and once you have your paper sizes set up correctly, it prints 11 x 17 and 13 x 19 posters. Time will tell whether the rollers have been improved on this model, as the last one refused to pick up cardboard or large paper sizes after a few months.

I''m beginning to think that the printer''s devil has split its soul into multiple parts, and is using HP printers as horcruxes. Only by destroying them all will we be saved. Can anyone spare a trustworthy Defense against the Dark Arts printer designer?

I wish I''d seen these reviews before I bought our 9800. We''re a branding/graphic design firm and so we need a printer that will print high quality prints on A3 for our customer to sign off.

We have no end of problems with it doing it''s own thing, picking up several pieces of paper at once, or spitting out thin card fed through the back without printing anything, it also adds strange squares like watermarks when printing images, the worst problem is that it prints everything skewed. We sent it back to have it fixed. It came back unfixed and covered in scratches.

The best quality we can coax out of it never reflects the design and quality of artwork which are present on the A4 Epson colour laser printer. The colours are always flat and often accompanied by the run lines where the print heads have been, even on the highest quality settings.

We have an HP9800, we have a sledgehammer , once the print cartridges run out we''ll be introducing them to each other...

My business ordered this printer specifically to print out 11" x 17" PDFs for architectural plans. Yeah, good luck with that, because all it did was give the printer a stroke, even at a relatively small filesize. The largest file we could print out at those dimensions was a JPG blown up in size. The instructions are sparse, and HP''s website offers no more help in the Troubleshooting section than "Make sure the printer is plugged in and connected to the computer." I would warn anyone away from this printer. If you need large-dimension printing, it''s useless, and if you need ordinary size, there are cheaper, more reliable printers.

I purchased two for my father''s grocery store.

The included CD has plenty of software. I was happy to find the Port Assignment Tool or port emulation software.

This was very helpful with my POS software which didn''t support USB. It worked like a piece of cake.

You just assign which port you want the Epson device to use. You can even see the devices assigned to ports used in other programs.

Also, the sample roll has sufficient length for testing purposes.

I think it is 80" but check the manufacturer site.

You need to download the official manual off their website too.

The only sheet included in the package is for hardware setup.

  • SiPix A6 Pocket Palm Printer connects easily to either PCs or Palm Pilots.
  • The direct thermal printing method means the only consumables are the paper and the batteries

... Portable printers are not meant to compete against laserprinters or ink jets. They are made to provide printouts under non-office conditions, i.e., field use, and except for environs were extreme heat-in-the-shade --like deserts, are operant, a thermal printer is most reliable, needs little maintenance and consumes few resources.

Thermal printouts are used all the time as TRANSITORY computer output on paper, such as ATMs, gas station receipts etc., to give users a copy of output. I''ve used 2 thermal printers since 1984, and these printers have outlived their CPUs.

I use the printer as general output on a boat or a plane, often in transit to remote locations, exposed to high humidity and at times printing from within a ziplock bag. The IR signal penetrates the bag nicely, and allows printing in a water resistant container. Thermal paper doesn''t run when wet, and when cold laminated, allows one to take printouts diving ... were water temps rarely exceed 90F.

Competing ink jet printers, while capable of A4 size sheets, can have comparably illegible fonts, higher cost and maintenance and print horribly under humid conditions. A4 paper is more inconvenient to carry.

The Sipix is very similar to a thermal printer engine released by Alps in 1998...

A full spec sheet is availableonline...

It has a rated life of 50 million print impressions and paper advance mechanism life of 20km. That''s roughly 17,000 prints or 72,000 sheets advanced of A4 paper. Using A6 paper, that''s substantially more sheets.

Rolled Paper is Superior to Sheet Paper. Printouts rarely use the full length of a single A6 sheet, thus the unprinted area is wasted. In long printouts, type will span several pages, and sheet paper will be wasted on unprinted margins.

What is wrong with the Sipix is the cost, its not worth [the price]. ....

The Sipix thicker thermal paper maybe less prone to curl, but it still does, and its not suitable for rolls. Roll paper are torn are various lengths. The Sipix paper is too strong and does not tear cleanly. Sipix paper is too expensive, even if heavily discounted... You can buy bulk A6 wide paper of over 76 feet per roll, of thinner grade paper for [$] for 25 rolls, and simply cut 8'' rolls for convenience. ...

As a heavy user of word processing on my Palm via DataViz''s Documents to Go 4.0 (available from Amazon) which allows me to download -and work on -MS Word files on my PDA, I was anxious to find a means to print these Word documents directly from my Palm -without having to synch and output from my PC. Additionally, if the printer were also portable, that would be even better.

The Sipix Pocket Printer A6 -along with the Docs to Print and IR Print software programs (both available from doctoprint.irprint.com as either a free trial or to purchase) -fit the bill quite nicely.

The Sipix A6 printer is just a little bit larger than the Palm itself. It runs on AA batteries and receives its info from the Palm via infrared (IR), which makes it totally cordless. The Sipix also uses thermal imaging, which eliminates the need for ribbons or ink jet cartridges, which is convenient; but it does require the use of specially coated A6 size thermal paper, also available from Sipix (and Amazon) in either rolls or sheets. (I use the latter -and carry a little stapler with me -since it lays flatter and looks much neater.)

The basic Sipix A6 software (also from IR Print) that comes with the unit, only allows one to print entries from the Palm Calendar, To Do, Memo and Address functions, which in itself, is only mildly useful.

To do more, here''s what you''ll need to install on your Palm:

Docs To Go (DataViz) + Docs to Print + IR Print*

* The more enhanced version of IR Print available from their website.

Once all three of these are installed, you''ll be able to print Word documents, not only to the Sipix A6, but also to all of the IR capable models from HP (such as the DeskJet 990 series) and from Canon (including the BJC line of portable ink jet printers), which is really cool!

Being thermal, the print quality of the Sipix unit is, unfortunately, rather crude; and the speed is rather slow (especially when compared to regular laser and ink jet printers). But the Sipix is still the smallest portable printer available today for my Palm. And I carry it -along with a slim box of A6 paper -everywhere with me in my briefcase.

I use the Sipix to print rough drafts of my work (including product reviews such as this one), which is wonderful, since perusing a printed copy -especially with multiple pages -is still easier than scrolling up-and-down a miniature screen.

The Sipix printer, as a watch-out, does have a tendency to drain four AA alkalines rather quickly. As a remedy, I''ve switched to the new AA size Energizer photo-lithium batteries, which cost a little more, but last many times longer.

With my Sipix A6 printer, I can now print Word files directly from my Palm -whenever and wherever I need it -which is truly a dream come true!

I am trying to resolve my issue for this printer with the seller and this is not intended to be feedback for them. It is however a substantial warning for anyone who needs to print from a PDA. This is not the product you need...I promise. The manufacturer has discontinued this printer as well as a host of other products. They will sell you paper for this printer. However, you need to having a working product before bothering to buy the paper. In the handbook that came with the printer, they claim you will be able to find a driver online but you will not. Sipix lists no phone numbers, technical help, or any other help source to solve the problems. Do yourself a favor and find another solution. If you find one for a reasonable cost, let me know. I truly need answers.

When I was looking for a printer for my Toshiba e335 Pocket PC, I heard a lot of people who bought this printer had problems with their printer when their Pocket PC os was 2002. Well, I guess the company has fixed the problem because my printer works well with my pocket pc! My only complaint is that the printer is noisy and not quiet enough to use in a classroom setting when the room needs to be silent. A great buy!
