Epson Ultra Premium Photo Paper GLOSSY (S042175) Save 28% off

Epson Ultra Premium Photo Paper GLOSSY
  • Long lasting, professional quality prints
  • Ultra smooth, bright white, heaviest weight paper
  • Fast drying, smudge and water resistant surface
  • The new standard for extraordinary images

Better than any other paper I have tried. Compared it to "professionally" printed Kodak prints and it blew them away. Pricey, but how many are you going to frame that''s what these are for.

I like getting the best product (quality) for the $$. I have found there is a significant difference with the quality of my prints if I do NOT use Epson Ultra Premium Photo Paper Glossy on my Epson Printer. My photos printed are frequently commented on by others for their quality of print. Others are shocked my photos are printed at home, on an inexpensive Epson Printer (Photo R280) using Epson Ultra Premium Photo Paper Glossy Paper.

I do not know how this paper works on other printers.

I have been trying to print a texture study and bought this on the off chance I could get the image I was after. It has exceeded my expectaions. If you like glossy you will love this paper.

I use this paper mainly in my Epson Artisan 810 printer with six ink colors. Sometimes I do use it in my Epson Stylus Pro 3880 printer as well (9 color inks with photo black and matte black). I only wish this paper was available in larger sizes, like 17 x 22 or even 13 x 19. For those large format prints, you have to settle for their "Premium Glossy" photo paper, which is MUCH thinner! It''s also the only glossy paper available in 11 x 14 from Epson. I very rarely use third party papers because color accuracy, saturation, and longevity is very important to me. Red River makes some good paper, but it isn''t the same as Epson paper. C''mon Epson! Make this excellent paper available in sizes larger than 8.5 x 11!!

I have tried many brands and rated photo paper I go though several boxes a month, It took a while before I discovered the Epson paper. Let me be real I kept putting it off I knew Epson made great printers as far as I''m concerned they make the best and thats all I buy, but as far as photo paper goes I thought to myself the best people to buy photo paper from were the ones known for years to make photo film and paper and that was Kodak, 5-Star Photo Paper when the merchant I brought it from ran out of it I brought HP photo Paper reluctently because I thought the same about them as I did Epson that merchant didn''t carry Epson, but they did have a lot of other brands which I also tried.

Epson is pricy so I finally thought lets give it a try and see whats so great about it. Man was I surprised what a difference, the Epson 5-Star Photo Paper is totally in a league of it''s own it should be a 6-star one look and you can clearly see a difference it''s vibrant and flawless with so much dept, and it dries instantly I know because there was a time or two that I realized I printed the wrong image on it and tried to run water on it to wash it off, did I mention it was water proof as well, I only buy other brands now when I don''t want to waste the Epson Paper and I always make sure I have extra Epson.

Epson Stylus C80 Inkjet Printer

Epson Stylus C80 Inkjet Printer
  • Up to 2,880 by 720 dpi resolution
  • Prints black text up to 20 ppm, 10 ppm color
  • DuraBrite inks for colorful, durable prints
  • USB and parallel connectivity; PC and Mac compatible
  • Resolution Performance Management technology permits variable resolution and smooths edges

I''ve been using Epson Stylus Color printers for awhile, originally the Stylus 740, and recently the 777i printer. Each has been impressive in the print quality, especially photos. I decided to make the leap and upgrade to the Stylus C80 printer, in part due to the $30 rebate offered.

Setup was very easy as is with most Epson printers. I use it with a USB cable to my Apple iBook computer and had no trouble with installing and using the printer drivers. As a matter of fact, these drivers are nearly identical to the ones used for the Stylus 777i. I have also used the Printer Sharing function built into the driver and now print wirelessly from my iBook to this printer COOL!!!

The print quality is excellent and speeds are noticeably faster than my 777i printer. The best improvement was the reduced noise during printing, it is much more quiet! I did notice that there is a considerable difference in photo print appearance between the C80 and the 740/777i depending on the type of paper used.

Previously, I have used the Epson 4x6 photo paper with very good resultson the C80 however, the prints appears somewhat washed out and dull. Using Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper produces much better results as does Kodak Premium Picture Paper (for less $$$ than Epson). I was also perplexed at the limited paper sizes supported by the drivers, 4x6 print is missing and must be user defined. Mac OS X drivers are due out on Oct. 22 so I am looking forward to testing those as well.

I recommend this printer for fast, quiet photo quality printing for a budget price.

Just had this printer a couple weeks now, and finally completed making it so that it prints from my home PC via Parallel, and Laptop via USB.

Prints are great! So far I have only had the opportunity to burn up some Coated 8.5 x 11 sheets on pictures and some graphics, plus a plain paper envelope or two. No problem as long as the driver installed properly.

I was debating and debating between the C80 and the 785EPX for quite some time, and as an avid digital photo geek, it was a tough choice archival with individual durable inks or the 785EPX with the edge to edge, card support, 2 extra colors, and 4x6 rolls. Well I still feel that the extra two colors are unnecessary just a way to sell more ink (the money''s in the blades son). And I have no issue viewing my pictures on the computer prior to wasting more of that precious commodity. So I went for the C80, and I''m delighted with my decision. Who needs two extra colors and wet edges. For really special prints I go to shutterfly.com anyway.

So here''s my driver advice:

My W98 (1''st edition) home PC installed without issue, and printed from the Parallel port without complaint.

On the other side, I was attempting to attach my work W2k laptop to the USB, and ran into difficulty. I believe the issue is that I needed to install "USB printer support" from my system prior to it allowing the Epson printer drivers. This issue was not listed in the instructions neither the "read me first" nor the full documentation. It only needs to be done once, which explains why some see it and others do not. When it asks you to cancel the HW detection, don''t cancel out of the "USB Printer Support" Hardware detection. Let it install the built-in Windows drivers for USB printers, then it goes on to install the actual printer which you do from the CD (or downloaded drivers).

Other than that... One theory I have for so many drivers issues with the other users is that it is a good idea to uninstall any pervious Local Printers on the system. These programs tend to run in the background and "lock in" your LPT settings like that little ink monitor and other icons that like to display in your sys-tray (on the bottom right of your screen). HP and Epson both seem to have these background programs. So if you had a HP previously, and didn''t uninstall first, then it could still be hanging on to your port settings. My previous model was a Canon BJC4300 which died when I had amassed over a hundred bucks on ink always had to have some on hand, because it gave you no warning when it was going to start printing funny stripy pictures. But then again, it had no little TSR (Terminate and Stay Resident don''t you wish that your boss would say that to you?) program to foul up the Epson installation.

I''ve seen this type of driver issue repeatedly one of my past lives involved troubleshooting people''s computers. There once was a "Winnie the Pooh" doll that attached to the parallel printer so the kiddies could program it to read them stories. Well this one customer could only get Pooh to speak in tongues that sounded kind of like a modem you should have seen what a sight it was to see Winnie moving his lips to the sound of "EEEEkakakaka". Anyway the issue was the LPT Port was "captured" by the Epson printer driver. The customer had deleted all the Epson printer files already so it was too late to uninstall. We had to re-install the Epson Driver from the printer which was now returned back to the store and then uninstall that driver.

Nice printer other than that. It''s not a quiet as an HP, but it shouldn''t jam up as much either. Sounds very "professional". Plus the "smoothness" of the 3 picoliter drops is better than HP. After maybe 8 pages of full color photo''s the ink is still way over 90% much better than the Canon would have been at this point.

Good luck with the drivers...

Marc

P.S. W2k uses the XP driver I believe.

This is by far the best inkjet I have ever used…

Unlike another reviewer, I had no problems whatsoever getting this printer installed and working. I can''t imagine the install being much easier. The drivers work very well with Windows 98 as they do with Win2k, Winxp and NT4.

The print speeds are incredible! I can''t believe it prints this fast while maintaining such a high quality output. The print speed has also improved a lot with mixed text/graphic pages. It seems to recognize that the text portion doesn''t need the same speed of the images and prints them much faster.

I like the separate ink cartridges, as you can replace each color independently. Canon has had this feature for the longest time, and I am glad to see Epson finally adding it. Time will tell if this makes it much cheaper than before.

The image quality is great! They have improved the plain paper printing quality from the last Epson printer I have used. On photo quality paper, it''s amazing! The picture quality is also much better than you get with latest HP printers, which tend to have grainy images when compared to the C80.

The only thing I don''t like is the styling. The previous printers look much better to me than the C80. And what''s with the naming scheme?

So far, I have enjoyed this incredibly fast printer....

Want Epson Stylus C80 Inkjet Printer Discount?

If you''re looking for a generic color printer, the C80 is most likely your best choise, even compared with more expensive printers. It is fast, economical, quiet (except for the paper-feed mechanism) and prints excellent quality text, graphics and images in both B&W and color. I use it with XP, without any problems -true plug and play, without the need of any driver installation.

However, if you''re buying the C80 for photo-quality prints, you''ll probably get disapointed. Before I bought it, I read many user reviews describing the C80''s photo prints as "dull" -this is exactly the case. I tried a number of print options (and the C80 gives you plenty) on photo-quality Epson paper -in all cases, the feeling was that the print came out OK, but didn''t have the sharpness I was expecting ("dull colors" is the right word). Another disadvantage, is the print sizes: does not have the "bordlerless photo" capability, and needs some trial-error based adjustments in the print options to print even standard photo sizes (4x6, 3x5 etc).

Very reluctantly, because it''s a great printer, I decided to return for a true Photo Printer.

First I will start by saying that I have been a fanatic supporter of Epson printers; I have owned (own) three of them. I have also owned HP''s, and like I said, am an Epson fan.

At first I was blown away by the clarity and brightness. But..

We (Epson support) couldn''t configure the printer for USB.

Then I noticed the printer was literally drinking ink...I mean lots of ink on the lowest black resolution only.

As far as speed, yeah, it cranks out the pages, but only after taking extended periods of time. On average, I have about a 25-30 second delay before the printer will begin to print (very annoying). Once it gets going, it kicks butt.

Now, back to my biggest gripe...

I have owned this printer since November 2001. It is now January 2002. I have blasted 5 black cartridges and 2 each of the remaining colors.

By comparison, with my Stylus 740, I used to go thru 1 black cartridge every month, sometimes it would last 2, and the color about every 2-3 months.

I have also found the ink incompatible with quality, high-gloss stock from Red River. Personally, I am now looking elsewhere.

Dunno what went wrong, but I don''t feel like spending [that much] in ink per year.

VERY DISAPPOINTED!!

  • Duplex-capable automatic document feeder allows you to get unattended scans of two-sided pages
  • Preview scans within just four seconds; easily adjust resolution to fit any job, from 150 dpi up to 4800 dpi

BEWARE of using this if you are trying to scan to PDF especially if you use PaperPort software. The pdfs show up with a documate watermark on them indicating that it is a trial version. GOOD LUCK getting it off...tried the ScanSoft support they know it is an issue but their ''fix'' doesn''t work and you''ll have to pay $40 if you want to talk to someone. Still have not figured this out. Also, pages scan at 25pp per minute once they start going through the wait time at the start is long (even if you don''t use the energy saving mode).

Our library purchased the hp Scanjet 8270 Document Flatbed Scanner a little over a year ago and it worked fine up until a day or two after the one-year warranty expired. It started making a whirring noise and produced an illegible image. We have been advised by HP that they do not sell parts or repair scanners because they are manufactured in a dust-free environment. We paid about $900 for the scanner. We''ve been unable to locate an independent company that would repair the HP scanner and so the cost expended for this scanner has proved to be cost-ineffective. Because of the no-repair feature, I do not recommend its purchase for libraries.

This scanjet has met every need I had and performs really well. There are a couple glitches with the software but after some use I''ve adjusted to it and now can work with it.

The quality is excellent and I love the document feeder, which was the main reason I picked this scanner.

If I could do anything to change it, it would be to make it easier to operate regarding the buttons on the front that explain nothing and the manual doesn''t help. I had to work through the software and figure things out on my own. They COULD have made this into a great machine, but instead produced a product that leaves the customers disappointed and scratching their heads.

An excellent bargain for less than $5.00 for the complete set; I bought two sets and even with the shipping ($4.00) the total cost was far below what one set would cost elsewhere.

Also, the merchandise arrived before the email saying it had shipped arrived.

After that, it was just peel the tape and pop the cartridge(s) in to make my printer happy again!

I would heartily recommend this vendor and this product to anyone who is interested.

Bought a set of these when I purchased a new Canon Pixma from Amazon. (Saw the "customers also frequently purchase" ad at the bottom of the Amazon page.) Replaced all cartridges (first time to replace any cartridges on this new printer) this week but the black, magenta and yellow don''t work. I cleaned the print heads and then did a deep clean. No change: no magenta, yellow or black ink. Save your money.

This pack of ink cartridges was purchased for the Canon Pixma MG6220 All-in-one printer. The Canon printer replaces the Epson printer that I had previousy and I have to say that this is a huge improvement over the Epson. Anyway, I bought these inks through Amazon''s vendor Super Supply Base for $13.49 which works out to be around $3.00 per cartridge. A great bargain and the delivery was very fast. I also purchased the Canon printer from Amazon and saved money on that as well. It is a fabulous printer and I have NO complaints. Prints color images like a professional photo lab.

Canon has added a new grey ink to its arsenal and be sure to order that whenever ordering ink for the MG6220.

HP Photosmart D110A Wireless Printer (CN731A#B1H)

HP Photosmart D110A Wireless Printer
  • Now AirPrint compatible. Simply print from iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.
  • Print, copy, scan with a 2.36-Inch LCD (with TouchSmart frame)
  • Quickly print from the Web without using a PC
  • Print anywhere, anytime, with any device
  • Save energy and conserve resources (Energy Star qualified)

This is a decent low-end printer with a few very cool features, and satisfactory but not stellar performance. It would be the ideal printer for a small family, especially with children who like to print things (and what kids don''t like to print things). I''m going to quickly go through the features and mention what I''ve experienced after playing with it for a few days; where relevant, I''ll compare its features to my slightly more expensive Canon printer.

SETUP:

The printer''s nicely packed, and easy to put together. The only trick I had was installing the printer cartridges. Like another reviewer said, the printer cartridges don''t go in exactly the way the diagram or the illustrated video on the printer''s screen suggests. If you make a mistake, it will say that they''re not installed, and then you can''t just go fix the mistake because it doesn''t recognize you''ve fixed it unless you power off and power on again. One other thing I like is that the whole thing comes with a handy canvas carrying tote. That''ll be nice because I may occasionally bring it home.

WIRELESS:

Setting up this printer as a wireless printer was extremely easy. I''ve setup about 5 different wireless printers over the past year and this was by far the easiest. What made it simple was that the instructions on the printer''s screen show you exactly how to connect it to a local wireless point, and then when you install the software on the screen it automatically recognizes the printer as there to be used. Easy stuff.

PHOTOS:

It''s advertised as a photo printer, and it does okay with photos but not great. I printed an 8.5 x 11 glossy of my family on quality photo paper and from far away it looks fine, but if you get close you''ll see evidence of print lines. It''s especially evident on skin, where you can see the little lines that make it almost look like your subjects had been sleeping on corduroy pants and had little fading line indentations left behind.

PRINTING:

For other kinds of print jobs, where fine details are less important, the printer does a good job and things look nice. It''s pretty slow, though. It''s not nearly fast enough for most professional office use, so the speed alone pretty much qualifies this as a home use printer. My Canon PIXMA MX860, for example, is quite a bit faster, and prints better photos. Of course, that one is bulkier than this one, and costs a bit more.

SCANNING:

The Photosmart scans just fine, though if you want any kind of control you have to scan from the software that installs on your computer with the driver. I tried scanning a page of text to send to my computer using just the controls on the printer and it ended up scanning only half of the page, and inverting the layout from the way it was actually placed on the scan bed. You can only scan one page at a time there''s no feeding.

Additionally, it only scans things as images, that it can send either as .jpg or .pdf files. That means you can''t produce an editable text document from a scan unless you have additional software that can convert the images into such. My Canon Pixma MX860 does give me the option to create .txt files.

COPY:

Works fine, exactly as you''d expect.

FAX:

Doesn''t exist. This is not a fax machine, so the "All-in-One" might be a bit of a misnomer then again, who uses fax machines anymore? I have fax capability on all my other printers and I''ve never had the need to use it. When I absolutely need to fax, I use my office''s dedicated machine. One more reason, though, that this wouldn''t work as an all-in-one office printer even for a small office, since sometimes business use requires faxing.

WEB:

There are two web features this comes with. One, apparently, doesn''t work yet (as of June 30, 2010) but is (allegedly) coming soon. That''s the "ePrint" function, that allows a registered user to print to this printer from anywhere on the web, even if they aren''t anywhere close to the printer. I''d love to be able to print out stuff I''ll need the next day from home, so it''ll be ready for me when I arrive at my office, so this is a feature I''m looking forward to.

The other feature is what''s called "Print Apps" basically, you register for print apps online at HPs site (several will be already set up for you if you accept the Web features during setup ... in fact, right now as far as I can tell every one of the available apps is already set up for you, though it looks like they are planning to have a lot more apps.) Anyhow, the webapps allow you to print directly from the web. I kind of like the Sudoku app, that allows me to print Sudoku puzzles directly from the printer. There''s also a Coupon app so far I haven''t found any useful coupons, but this could be nice. My son loves the PBS KIds and Disney apps. Again, this would be cool for families.

OVERALL:

This is a decent, low-end printer, with some novel features that would make it great for some personal and home uses. It doesn''t print the best photos and it''s not as fast as some. At this price, though, it would be a good deal for many users.

UPDATE Oct 2010: I printed probably about 4 or 5 4x6 prints, and maybe 6 or 7 8x10 prints and now it''s out of ink. While I''m fine with using this printer for printing snapshots for photo albums in the 4x6 size(or black and white normal documents), when you get to 8x10 size photos, I wasn''t happy with the sharpness, color or detail. My camera is an SLR, so they can be blown up quite big. As I pointed out in the video review, the colors will vary widely from what you see on your monitor before printing. And this is a whole ''nother bag of worms based on your monitor being in RGB and printers being in CMYK color calibration. But it seemed like a bigger difference then I''m used to.

UPDATE June 2010: An Amazon staffer has informed me "I work with Amazon and wanted to confirm that the paper included with the product does not come with every printer. This was only for the trial versions." That was something I thought was so great about this particular product, but please disregard it in my video review.

I just got this HP photosmart printer and while it has some aspects of it I don''t personally like, I think it will be a nice basic photo printer for those with limited computer abilities, or who just want something easy to use that''s an attractive looking machine. It''s all about having realistic expectations for the price point. If you have a point and shoot you use for fun, this just may be up your alley. If you''re into DSLR cameras and editing photos, this might be a little lowbrow for your taste.

Pros:

IPHONE USERS: right after finishing this review, I went app surfing, and found the motherlode. It''s called HP iPrint 3.0, its fantastic and free! Printed photos instantly over wifi, I also used it with my grocery IQ app and printed coupons. Another app features is you can scan directly to your phone for emailing documents.

Beyond easy to get started. The wireless setup was a pinch in comparison to the hassles I had connecting my brother printer wirelessly.

scanning black and white documents and photos worked fine. Copying black and white was also as expected.

it prints out photos fast.

attractive and will match nicely with other HP products.

Besides the reusable little zipper bag in my video, there was another larger one that the printer was in. Nice to have a new reusable for the grocery store, and I really admire the effort HP made with making the packaging as eco friendly as possible.

Eprint feature is now working, and working very well with no problems. You can print to your printer from anywhere based on the printer having its own email address assigned to it.

Cons:

noisy!

doesn''t have a lot of settings you can customize to your taste directly on the printer. I like to be able to change DPI for different projects, or color contrast, choose PDF or JPG etc if needed. You can pick the paper type and "normal, best" quality printer on your computer when printing to it.

the color cartridge is just one, instead of separating into three cartridges.

It''s hard to tell over video, but the colors just weren''t what I was hoping for. The photos I printed had more yellow/orange/green tones then the original photos. Recently I was doing my own passport renewal photo. I finally got it right and went to print. I was wearing a pink shirt, and it blew out the pink and overly saturated it. I had to change and start over because I knew that wouldn''t be acceptable.

a couple things the software installed that are unnecessary and you''re not given an opportunity to pick and choose when you start the software. For instance: a weird extra internet toolbar, etc. I hate extra things that have really nothing to do with the product and are just used to shove the brand in your face, or that HP partnered with or got paid to add to sneak it in and put it on my computer.

I''ve owned tons of HP Deskjets/Inkjets over the years as well as a Photosmart, so I feel right at home with this printer. Printers are difficult to review because opinions of them vary so greatly from person to person with regards to print quality and desirable features/functions. I will try to keep my impressions short and only comment on the ones that need more explanation.

The good:

-The printer is small and the design is very stylish

-Photo print quality on photo paper is excellent/exceptional on 4x6 HP Advanced Photo paper.

-Printing on regular paper, text, is fine/ok/typical

-The software install on PC was simple/straightforward/easy

-The printer works reliably on wireless and is pretty seamless doing so

-ePrint will be available soon, which opens a whole world of printing possibilities

-Scanning/printing/menu use on the printer is simple after initial setup

-It shipped with a big box of photo paper and nice carrying cases/covers instead of plastic in the packaging

-Being a wireless printer allows everyone in the home to print to it without any complications!

-Registering the printer online was very easy because it automatically filled in the serial number! Awesome!

-It fits a scanner in the same size package that the average printer takes up, saving you desk space

The bad:

-The printer is a little loud and makes some plastic clanking sounds at times

-The initial setup required on the printer menu system was not intuitive. The touch buttons didn''t line up how I thought they should with the options on the screen.

-Registering the printer in the ePrint center gave me problems. I finally was successful by using a new email address not registered with HP elsewhere.

-The "on printer screen" tutorial for inserting the ink cartridges is a little misleading. If you do it wrong, then fix, you''ll have to power cycle the printer so it "realizes" you installed the ink properly.

Conclusion:

I could recommend this printer for any person who is the casual printer but also would like to print some really high quality photos at home. It fits in well where there are multiple computers on the same wireless network, and even will work with wired computers as long as they are on the same network as the wireless. It seems like HP tried to make things easy, but I''d call this printer more "feature rich" than "dead simple," but I do think all but the most tech averse will be able to work his/her way through any issues.

Compared to other printers out there in this price range, this printer has a lot more features for the money.

I''m actually a big fan of HP products...every piece of computer hardware I''ve owned in the last ten years or more has been HP, and at my house that means at least 3 HP computers and a full range of accessories at any one time.

That''s why I''ve been so stunned by the lousy quality of the HP Photosmart D110 I bought a few months back. I knew when I bought it that the tray which catches printed pages is just a fold-out extension of the feeder tray, but I never imagined it was so poorly designed that it would grab printed pages and run them back through a second time if I didn''t monitor every print job. Don''t even get me started on the incessant "phantom" paper jams I''m glad others addressed it here already.

I also knew when I bought the D110 that the little ink cartridges wouldn''t last long but I''ve never had a printer blow through ink like this one does, and I''ve never had a printer that required so much force to install and remove cartridges when they (constantly) need changing. Not only does it eat ink at an alarming rate, but the print quality is horrible once you get down to 1/3 of any cartridge certainly not good enough for photographic prints and the machine wants to recalibrate the ink delivery system every time a cartridge is changed, wasting time and paper.

The final insult is the regularity with which this printer becomes magically invisible to my computer, which is connected directly to this unit via cable. If I turn the printer off and on again, it tries to reinstall another copy of itself, wasting up to ten minutes at a stretch.

And yeah, it occurred to me early on that I might just have bought a bad unit, so I exchanged it, but the replacement has the same issues. Tried pairing it with another, equally new HP computer. Nope. And wireless printing is a crapshoot every time. Neither the retailer nor HP has any advice, though you can bet HP acts like they''ve never heard of any of the problems I''m having.

I didn''t buy my D110 from Amazon, but since I wouldn''t want anybody else to go through the nonsense I''ve dealt with since I brought this nightmare home, I thought I''d put my two cents in where I know a lot of people will see it.

We finally bit the bullet and got a new printer the old hp deskjet 3220 just would not die, so we donated it to a school. We switched because we wanted better photo printing and speed, and the scanner was USB 1.1 only.

I''m a Mac person, but more and more HP products are truly impressive. The laptop I most recently set up was the simplest ever. This unit was more of that simplicity. Just unpacking it was comparable to the Apple experience. One booklet, and the packaging was two pieces of foam and a tote bag instead of plastic wrapping, cords and ink were in a zippered reusable pouch. Both were of the same material used for reusable grocery bags. Minimal waste. Suggest they move from styro to compressed paper like others.

Setup was done without so much as a USB cable. All was done by loading the software, first into the Mac, then later into the HP. Power up the printer, tell it to find your WiFi router and it appears as a Bonjour (zeroconf) item. No issues with Mac or Win setup. Alignment is done by printing and then scanning an alignment page. No more squinting to discern the most-lined-up raster.

Printing is darn good on plain paper and knockout on photo paper. A 4x6 guide on the tray is convenient. There is an extended paper support that I don''t even see using.

Scanning was the big question. I''ve used Ed Hamrick''s VueScan for years, it''s a wonderful tool. It warned that I''d need to install HP drivers in order to use VueScan, which would contribute to bloat. Since we sent off the USB cables with the printer and scanner, VueScan didn''t see the cable-less WiFi scanner when it booted. I figured we were stuck. Well, we weren''t as there is a web interface to the scanner that can scan jpg or PDF at up to 600 dpi from a browser.

*** Correction VueScan now sees the printer and scans as always. ***

Printing and scanning over WiFI is wonderful, much improved over similar devices from just a few years ago.

ePrint gives you an email address that lets you print common document formats via email attachments.

The web interface lets you double check remote print jobs.

Amazing for $99 retail, $79 at HP, $55 here. Available XL ink also saves.

I have owned Epsons, HPs, Xerox''s and Canons. This is the best one of all. First i got the HP1100 photosmart back in January 2000. It was pretty much top of the line then. I didnt think much would top it for speed and photo quality. But once i started to see some photo printers out on the market, i realized the HP 1100 was NOT really for total photo quality, it was more of a speedy really nice color printer. so i bought a Canon 8200 due to the reviews i had seen in Popular Photography magazine. I Still have it. They said it was #1 so i took their word for it. They were right. It beats everything in photos. Hands down. I heard a lot about the Epson 870 for photos so i bought that just to see if it was better than my 8200 for a couple weeks. it printed really nice pictures, very close to my 8200 from canon but its slow performance and high ink costs forced me to take it back early. Hearing about the new S600 from Canon with higher resolution than their 8200 i figured i''d try that one too. IT ROCKS. ITS MUCH MUCH faster than my 12 page a minute HP 1100 and the photos are just out right astonishing. (gave the HP 1100 away) Any picture i can take, it can print. If i need a 20 page report when i''m running out the door, i get it quickly between using the bathroom and finding my car keys. the manual says the black cartrdige goes 695 pages. You know me, i have to try it. YES, i wasted a whole ink cartridge and tons of paper just to see. OK, so i''m a nerd. Anyways, i printed 768 pages before the well ran dry. At [the price] for that many pages, i''m not tyring to buy no other printer. I LOVE cheap ink cartridges! you buy the printer once but you pay for ink for the next 4 years. SPEED and beautiful photos wrapped up in one; It wasnt possible unitl now. I found it in the Canon S600 and i hope you do too.

I still can''t believe I paid [such a good price] for this machine. It is absolutely amazing. I don''t know why Canon has offered such an amazing printer with such great quality for a price this low, it just doesn''t seem right. I recently bought the CanonScan N122OU (another equally impressive canon acessory) and up until a week ago was in desparate need of a high quality printer. I can scan photo prints at 1200dpi on the scanner, then print the images out at 1200dpi on the printer. If you compare the original photo to a the printed version on photo paper, you will honestly have a hard time trying to tell them apart. Everything you''ve read is true. It''s fast, quiet, uses high quality ink that is [inexpensive]and uses it efficiently. I''ve purchased many things from Amazon in the past and this is the only thing I''ve ever been motivated to write about. If you''re at all interested in having an extremely high quality printer for a price far below what it''s worth. Look no further.

I needed a printer that could handle my heavy copy while being able to elegantly print out my slew of digital photography. After reading some user reviews and features for the Canon S600, I went ahead and purchased it. And it has been unreal. For less than $200, it doesn''t make sense to buy another printer. With Photo Paper Pro paper and a digital camera, your images will have unsurpassed quality. The software installs easily, as does the printer itself. The refillable individual color ink tanks are terrific, saving you money in the long run, and the printer is more quiet than a whsiper. Black copy, whether in draft mode or enhanced, looks sharp and professional. Canon has outdone themselves with this printer, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a unit than can match high-quality images with high-quality printouts. The resolution is unbelievable for both color images of your most recent vacation and your crisp resume. Simple, affordable, quality -it''s perfect.

I purchased this printer based on Cnet.com''s review of it. It''s their number one printer by the way. Everything they said was true about this printer and more. This printer is the quietest printer ever, along with fast print speeds, and exceptional quality. I''ve never been so satisfied with a product like I am with the Canon S600. And to top it off, this printer has the best ink system and lowest ink cost in the market today. I absolutely recommend this printer to anyone and everyone for home and business.

I always thought that if I wanted a printer, it would automatically be an HP, there was never a second doubt especially since my older brother had bought his P1000 in late December and was more than satisfied printing his very detailed 8 x 10 photos in very fine ink on beautiful photo paper. And when I was going to buy my first printer, I was pretty much looking for HP''s, but obviously not as [much]as that ..price tag that came with the P1000. And it was then that I stumbled across this S600, with people saying that it rivaled the higher-end HP''s P1000 and P1250. I thought I would take a gamble, especially after seeing the price at below.., less than half the price of my brother''s printer. Installation was easy, and the printing program is very informational yet simple. But it was the actual printing that I couldn''t believe. Very fine prints on 4 x 6 and even 8 x 10 at its highest resolution. They say it can print a photo at 8 x 10 in 90 seconds, but it took a few minutes for my photo and I don''t expect any home printer to print any photo with quality that good at that speed. And the more easy black prints come out fast as usual. Ink cartridges will never be very [much] here as my brother''s P1000 Photo Cartridge was indeed [a lot] used up very quickly. I don''t need a slot for any Memory Card, I really doubt there are people who need a slot in their printer unless they are in a ridiculous hurry, and that is the only thing that P1000 has that my S600 doesn''t. The S600 has everything else, and in some cases, does it better than those high-end HP''s. Retail stores don''t give a listed price because they are high on demand but low in stock. So to find it underneath is already lower than what most of the national retail stores are going to sell it. Buy This Printer if you want a reasonably priced printer that just happens to print things that would usually cost more.

HP LaserJet Pro P1606dn Printer (CE749A#BGJ) Save 34% off

HP LaserJet Pro P1606dn Printer
  • 250-sheet input tray
  • Automatic Duplex Printing
  • Hi-Speed USB 2.0 port, 10/100 Ethernet networking
  • 4 LED indicator lights, 2 buttons
  • 150-sheet face-down bin, Up to 150 sheets output tray

I have owned many different laser printers from HP, Dell, Lexmark, Brother and Samsung. This printer beats them all for three reasons:

1. Quick. When you hit print, the first page is out of the printer in less than 7 seconds. That is fast!

2. Quiet. You will hear the printer while it is printing, but when it is finished or in standby mode, it is quiet. If not silent. It sits right next to me and I don''t notice it.

3. Small and good looking. When compared to older laser printers, this one is a model of good design. It sits compactly in the corner out of the way, but ready to serve at the touch of Ctrl P or the printer button.

4. Duplex perfection. First of all, watching this printer spit out a piece of paper and then inhale it to print the other side is really really neat. It is just plain fun to watch. Secondly, both sides come out printed perfectly.

5. Network Functionality. The printer was found without problem by my Windows 7 machine as well as my Mac. It just works.

6. Crisp Text. We purchase lasers because we want crisp text. This laser will make you proud.

This is a good printer and the price point is amazing for what it delivers.

Quick, Quiet, Fast, Good Looking, Duplex Perfection in a network printer with Crisp Text Output. What else do you need? HP engineers and designers hit a homerun on this one.

I previously owned a LaserJet 6L which was a reliable printer in its day. Since then, I''ve purchased several color printers from other manufacturers. I went back to HP for their reliability.

This printer quickly prints documents, especially with the built-in duplexer. I can send a print job to it and the first page (one sided) is coming out of the printer in two seconds.

The down side is the cost of toner. Normally, I have the print density set at 2 out of 5, which is on the light side. Using Econo mode does save toner, but the text is more difficult to read in low light conditions, so I rarely use that mode.

The sample toner (allegedly 1000 pages) included with the printer printed less than 400 pages before white streaks in the text began appearing. After installing a new cartridge (78A) just 4 days ago and printing 760 pages, the printer is reporting that 30% (or 300 pages) is left. At over $83 per cartridge, including tax, that comes out to 8 cents per page. I just purchased 2 toners at $49 to help save money.

But to call this a "green" printer, when one has to replace the toner cartridge after only 1060 pages, is silly.

I''ve owned two HP LaserJet printers over the last 22 years. A LaserJet IIP and a LaserJet 5L. Bought the IIP in 1989, and it was great. When the 5L came out in 1995, I chose to upgrade. That 5L lasted until 2 days ago -a bit more than 15 years! I figure 15+ years out of any piece of computing equipment means I got way more than my money''s worth, thus I chose to purchase another HP LaserJet.

The good stuff:

This new LaserJet P1606dn Pro printer is so amazingly FAST! I''ve been used to 4 pages-per-minute (PPM) for so long, that this printer''s 26-PPM speed just blows me away! And the fact that it''s got a built-in duplexer (prints on both sides automatically, if you tell it to) is just icing on the cake -no more printing every other page, then flipping the stack of paper and re-feeding it through to get the back sides of the pages. Fantastic! (I printed a 12-page document with duplex-printing enabled, and it did the job in about 35 seconds from start to finish. Very impressive! Turn duplex off, and it will print a bit faster -but you''re not saving money on paper that way.)

Setup of the P1606dn Pro was incredibly easy. I simply plugged it into my computer''s USB port, turned on the printer, and got a pop-up-window from the printer''s built-in software saying that it wanted to install the driver. Boom. Done. Easy. (I''m running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, but I''d imagine your experience would be the same with any version of Windows 7 or Vista or XP.)

The paper try holds about 3 times what the paper tray on my old LaserJet 5L held -re-loading a lot less often is a nice thing as well. And the "auxiliary" feed (where you feed envelopes, for example) can hold about 10 of ''em, instead of the one-at-a-time thing that I had on the 5L -another very nice feature.

I did not try to enable the printer''s built-in network features. I plugged it into a computer and then shared the printer with my network that way. So I cannot comment at all on the ease (or lack thereof) of the Ethernet setup on this printer.

Now the bad stuff:

They didn''t include ANY cables to attach this to the computer! Are you kidding me?! Just the power cable. So you absolutely MUST buy yourself a USB cable or an Ethernet cable if you don''t want it to be a $200 paperweight. It *does* say on the outside of the box that there isn''t a USB cable included, but it''s not immediately clear on Amazon''s web-site. So here''s your warning: BUY A USB CABLE OR AN ETHERNET CABLE WITH THIS PRINTER BECAUSE IT DOESN''T INCLUDE EITHER IN THE BOX!

The toner-cartridge that is included with the printer is only about half-full. (Maybe a little less). It''s designed to print about 1,000 pages, whereas a new toner-cartridge is designed to print around 2,100 pages. Please... I''d be willing to pay a few $$ extra to have a full toner-cartridge included with the printer... That''s just ridiculous... So, you''ll probably want to buy a new toner cartridge when you buy this printer. And, yes, new toner cartridges are expensive -but HP toner cartridges have *always* been expensive for every HP LaserJet I''ve owned. It''s the price you pay for the high-quality printing you get out of these printers. And it still beats the cost-per-page of an InkJet.

Summary:

I would''ve given this printer a 5-star rating, if they''d included a USB cable and a full toner-cartridge. Instead I bumped it down to 4 stars. The printer itself gets 5-stars -fantastic speed, reliability, quality of the printed document, etc -everything I''ve come to expect from an HP LaserJet over the many years that I''ve owned them. But not including a USB cable or a full toner-cartridge -that means you don''t get a perfect score. Sorry, HP. Love the printer itself, dislike the fact that you cut a couple of corners with the accessories that *should* have come with the printer.

Disclaimer: I just bought this printer. I have only printed about 300 pages with it. I bought this printer to replace an aging HP Laserjet Model 4P.

Initial thoughts: WOW! This thing is super-fast. The double-sided printing is AMAZING. The text is crisp and clean. It''s easy on toner, and has an economy mode (although I haven''t tested it yet).

I can''t say enough about how fast and smooth this printer is. I cued up a 300 page service manual I had in PDF form. The whole thing was printed and ready for reading in under 5 minutes.

One of the neatest features is that it goes completely silent and in low-power mode when not in use: you don''t have to turn it on, it senses when you want to print, turns itself on, prints, and then shuts itself off.

It''s a bit on the noisy side but I really don''t care about that.

Overall, money well spent.

After a few hours of playing tittly-winks with HP Technical Support, having them go on and on about how I can''t use this in a "business environment" and how "it doesn''t support printing via ethernet" (I really wish I was joking about that one, but the technician actually said that), I was just about to throw my hands up in the air Until I happened to try the PCL version of the HP Universal Print Driver And then it started working like a champ!

I generally make a habbit of only using HP Universal Drivers and installing both PCL and PS versions on my Windows 2003 print server so I:

A) Don''t have to worry about maintaining individual drivers for all of the HP C/LJ''s around my office.

and

B) If someone needs to use PCL or Post Script, each of them are there as seperate printer instances so my users can connect to them any time they need either version.

My issue was when testing to make sure I could print to this device before maping a user to this printer I was only testing with the Post Script instance of the printer. I suppose I should also mention that when I told HP I had a print server handling jobs (good practice when you have an office full of printers and prefer keeping your hair on your head rather than between your fingers as you pull them out), and that I had established a DHCP reservation so the printer would obtain IP information dynamically, but always be given the same address let''s just say that drove HP technical support up a wall; almost to the point where they just about put the kibosh on the entire support call. I suppose the kind of training that goes into those that support these is different than those that support, say, LJ 8150s.

The end result was after being told:

A) I had a bad toner cartridge (at which point jumped through the proverbial hoop and went out to buy a spare)

B) There were "multiple" bad ports on my Extreme Networks Summit X450-48p switch (yeah right, pretty sure I would have noticed that)

C) That ethernet printing was either "not supported entirely" or that at most it was "only supported being connected to a home Linksys router"

D) Not having enough paper loaded into the device (even when it was full)

We finally came to find that when a print job is sent via the Post Script driver this printer TANKS.

And when I say "tanks", I mean:

A) Web interface stops working

B) Ping requests time out

C) The NIC completly shuts down (link light drops offline)

D) The printer appears to restart / re-initialize (yellow lights flicker on the top)

E) You have to wait 15-20 seconds for it to come back up

Worse yet, after being sent a job via PS (and it subsequently goes into it''s fit of rage), it usually requires a restart to remain stable. I found this out because while testing I had a continuous ping going throughout all of this, and it would randomly time out long after the restart / reinitializing sequence was complete even when no job was being sent. The only way to get it to remain stable again was to completely shut it off and reboot. WOW What a joke!

Moral of the story, I''m rating this a 4 because if you don''t even think Post Script, it''s actually a good light-duty (all I''m planning on using it for) printer that absolutly WILL work in a network environment (in a business or otherwise). Just make sure you don''t try to use a Post Script driver, unless you enjoy making your brain hurt watching your printer act a fool for no apparent reason.

PS: I generally NEVER write reviews about things (even though, full disclosure, I read them all the time). That said, the wasted afternoon I spent troubleshooting this was SUCH A PAIN IN THE REAR that I couldn''t resist the temptation to share my experiance with those of you wanting to pick this puppy up. Hope it''s helpful for you!
