- Helps keep confetti-cut machines working at their peak
- Industrial-grade lubricant
- Convenient 12-ounce squeeze bottle
- Extension nozzle to ensure complete coverage
- Ideal for home or business shredders
- Lubricant keeps your shredder running at peak performance by conditioning the cutters and extending the life of your shredder.
- For best results, oil shredder each time you empty the wastebasket or a minimum of twice a month.
Remember that vegetable oils go rancid quickly; they''re meant for eating and not industrial lubrication on a regular basis. The use vegetable oil trick is actually intended for people who use their shredders OFTEN, not OCCASIONALLY. I have a giant bottle of canola oil at the office for the big shredder, I use the branded oil at home. The amount of shredding most offices do is enough to warrant using vegetable oil since more than likely by the end of of a typical maintenance cycle, the oil is long gone from the blades and feeding mechanism.
Do not use olive oil, corn oil, cottonseed, peanut, palm, or ANY vegetable oil with an odor. Unless you want your shredder smelling like food, stay away from any vegetable oil with a distinct odor. Canola oil is the best substitute for branded oil. Also look for lower grade canola cooking oil, the ones you often find in thrift stores or 99 cent stores. It should look more "watery" than viscous.
If you think Fellowes is taking you for a ride in selling shredder oil, think again. It''s like someone mixing food coloring and water to make "ink" for their printer. Sure the price is way more than it should be, but that also doesn''t make the home alternative absolutely correct all the time. Use the Fellowes oil if you shred papers ocasionally and pretty much find yourself oiling once in two weeks. One 12 ounce bottle should last you QUITE a long time. If you''re in a heavy office or shredding daily, then go for the canola oil alternative. The last thing you want is to have sticky, smelly blades that have rancid vegetable oils on them.
Fellowes oil has no odor and is quite "watery". If I could buy this stuff cheap in the gallons, I would for all my shredders. Vegetable oils have the caveats I mentioned above, but they DO work if you''re in a pinch or trying to save some money.
As a side note, always use shredder bags when possible. They save you from dealing with the "dust" that shredders create. And yes, you can use generic 4-11 gallon trash bags instead of "shredder" bags! That''s ok.
Buy Fellowes Shredder Oil, 12 oz. Bottle with Extension Nozzle (35250) Now
We only buy Fellowes shredders and have found them very reliable. I originally purchased the oil for the cutters directly from Fellowes a couple of years ago; the bottle was smaller and more expensive at the time. I was quite pleased to find this product available from Amazon at a good price and larger bottle.I think a lot of people buy a shredder, not knowing that it does need some maintenance to keep it in top shape. Besides not overloading your shredder''s capabilities or shredding material that you shouldn''t, the next best thing you can do to protect your investment is to regularly lubricate the cutters. This reduces wear, noise, and can prevent the teeth from breaking.
Be sure to read the instructions for your particular shredder, however, about the type of oil to use and the frequency. You may be tempted to use other types of oil you already have around your house or WD-40 or something, but many of those things are flammable and will only serve to damage your shredder or worse.
As another reviewer said, be careful when cutting the tip on the bottle because if you make it too big, the oil will be harder to control.

I have a Staples 15-sheet shredder for which I purchased the Fellowes lubricant oil. After a single thorough application, the shredder gradually returned to its optimum performance. I used the generic office store brand oil before, and it seems that Fellowes lubricant delivers a difference you can hear.Want Fellowes Shredder Oil, 12 oz. I spoke with Fellowes, they say it''s OK to use regular cooking vegetable oil (canola, etc.) in their machines, but only temporarily, not in the long run, because regular vegetable oil may become sticky and start smelling rancid. I''ll stick with the dedicated oil and give it just 4 stars since there exists an alternative. I will, however, give Fellowes 5 stars for their candor. Also, as others have pointed out, be careful not to cut too big a chunk of the dispenser nozzle''s tip, so you won''t waste oil when oiling your machine.I have read all the reviews & yes. I contacted Fellows & Royal they said you could use in a pinch regular vegetable cooking oil, but the main difference is there oil is much more refined & does not in any way smell like vegetable oil. So I decided to buy & see for my self. I did a side by side comparison. The cooking oil is much more brighter, heavier & has a distinctive smell. The Fellows is a much lighter oil. The Vegetable oil will go rancid & you''ll start to smell it in time, many people have complained that when oiling the oil come out to fast..Here''s the fix don''t use a pair of scissors or a utility knife to cut the tip of the cap. Just use either a baby pin or a thumb tack to pierce the tip of the cap & then you can have control of how much oil you need to use. I used a med size baby pin & it''s working great for me. FYI: If you have a Office Depot where you live. There own brand of oil is a refined soybean based. For $5.00 for a 4oz bottle the Fellows is a better buy. Not to mention the Engineer at Fellows said that poring oil on a sheet of paper is not enough lubrication & neither are the pre-soaked sheets you can buy. You need to run the machine in reverse as your poring for 10 seconds.Canon Pixma MX850 Office All-In-One Inkjet Printer (2436B002)
- All-in-one device can fax, copy, scan, and print
- Built-in Ethernet jack allows simple connection to a network
- Prints at a maximum of 9600 x 2400 dpi for great photos
- Built-in memory card reader and 2.5-inch display allows for photo prints directly form a memory card
- Automatic document feeder enables automatic duplexing
I''ve owned the Canon MP830 for almost a year and and I just bought the Canon MX850 for a friend, so this is a direct user comparison. The 830 has been 100% reliable, producing excellent scans, prints, copies, and faxes. The MX850 is shorter in height, but otherwise just as bulky and heavy as the 830. Canon seems to be using a less robust scanner in the 850 than in the older MP830. Scans on the 830 are consistently over 4 times as fast: a 300 dpi 8.5x11" import scan into Photoshop CS3 took about 7 seconds with the 830 and about 33 seconds with the 850. The 830 wins in the noise category as well: it''s roughly 60% quieter than the 850 when scanning. The 850 produces an annoying high pitched tone while the 830 has more of a low "murmer" sound. The 850, to be fair, will not be considered to be overly loud for most environments. With scanning, the color reproduction seems fairly close between the two machines, though I''m getting more color accuracy from the 830. Copies on the 830 produced more accurate colors, too: a copy of a TIME magazine cover on a matt photo paper (with settings set to "Matt Photo Paper" and "High") yielded extremely accurate reproductions of the original, while the the 850 veered too far toward the yellow end of the spectrum. Both produced excellent detail, though. Scans of dot-screen images were well rendered with the 830, while the 850 exhibited substantial moire effects.
Not sure about energy consumption comparisons though the 850''s scanner seems to be using a more compact, (newer technology?) low lumens light-producing element than the very bright 830, so it probably uses less power.
Both machines will not disappoint, but with the advantage of my brief side-by-side comparison I''d recommend that you save $40 bucks and get the MP830. They both use the same ink cartridges. One last observation: the 850''s LCD screen has a much higher pixel count, but that''s only one small improvement amid the 830''s superior traits.
3/18/2008 Update: I''ve learned that the MX850 is using "contact image sensor" technology (CIS) where as the MP830 is using the more common "charged-coupled devices" (CCD) technology. For those with an interest in the tech aspects I''ve included some info I found online:
"Most of large format scanners in use today use CCD (charge-coupled devices) as the primary data capture element in their construction. Recently this position has started to be challenged by the lower cost CIS (contact image sensor) technologies, which have come mainly from the small flatbed scanner market. The traditional CCD or camera scanner is able to produce a very high number of colours from the scanned original and copes with folded documents reasonably well. These scanners tend to be preferred where the image to be scanned is either photographic or has extensive use of tones and shading. CIS scanners have the advantage in providing all the optics in a space of 20 mm or so, which in the CCD scanner equivalent would occupy more like 600 mm. The secondary advantage is that CIS scanners have no need for magnification, lenses or a rigid frame a major saving in construction costs and weight. However, CIS scanners do not do so well when scanning very pale colours or photographs."

This printer is an upgrade to my Canon Pixma iP6000. The iP6000 is excellent for printing photos as well as all daily stuff. I was concerned that a multi-function printer would not print photo''s as well. I was wrong!!!This multi-function printer is as good, maybe even a little better at photos than the iP6000 was. I have only had it a couple of days, so I have not tried everything out yet. Regular print quality is excellent. Copying is great. Scanning should come out just as good as copying, but I''ve yet to try it. Photo printing is excellent.
If your looking at this just remember to consider its size. I don''t think it''s really any bigger than most other all-in-ones but it is bigger than my last printer.
I went with the MX850 for 2 reasons. (1) Networking capability and (2) Canon technology. I am very pleased with my decision!!
The set-up went without any problems at all. The first computer I hooked it up to is a desktop running XP home via USB. Installed perfectly.
Next was a laptop running Vista via network. NOTE: As instructed by the instructions you must attach the USB cable to the FIRST computer that is being installed on the network before you connect it via the network. After it is completely installed you no longer need that USB connection. It will connect via the network. Yes, my laptop is connected wirelessly. It works great!!! For any additional computers on the network all you have to do is install the software and connect it via the network. NO USB required for all additional network computers. The installation software is very easy to understand. There are only 3 install options. (1) Install to computer via dedicated USB connection. (2) Install FIRST computer on a network (must use USB this ONE time only). (3) Install additional computers on network. Thats it...
As I said it''s only been a couple of days so I have yet to try everything out, but so far NO disappointments. It seems to be a very well built simple to use machine. Software seems to be running fine on XP and Vista. Not sure where the pricing will go on this unit but, Amazon dropped their price $45 only a couple days after I ordered it. I was happy at full retail, but at $235 you can''t go wrong !!!
The one thing I do recommend is to use Canon photo paper when printing photos. I found that I got the best results this way. That was on the iP6000, but I''m sure the MX850 will be the same way.
Good luck with your purchase. Hope this helps a little.
EDIT:
It has been a few more days since original install.
During set-up on another computer on the network it would not install. I called tech support for help. The problem was my computer NOT the printer. Tech support was great!!!!!! They walked me through step by step checking everything till we found the problem. Canon has their support in the US and they have a dedicated department for networking. It was actually a pleasure calling them for help. Usually I hate to call for support. You never know where the call is being routed. Very nice to know you can get quick easy help if needed.
Also since I got a chance to play a little more with the printer I discovered how quick it is. I was happy with the iP6000 print speed, but the MX850 makes me realize how slow it was. I didn''t time it, but it printed a 4x6 photo very quickly!! Another nice feature is the door where the paper comes out will open automatically when you print.
So far no regrets!!! Don''t be afraid to call tech support if needed. They are great!

We ordered this printer last Saturday nite and amazon had it delivered on Tuesday afternoon with free super-saver delivery. Thank you amazon. We are upgrading to this multi-function from a LexMark X6170, which served us quite well for 4 years. The Canon PIXMA MX850 is much heavier than the LexMark. If you''ve back problems, it might be worth asking the delivery guy to put it near to where you want it.
Although the packaging for the printer is quite simple, there are way too many plastic tapes to be removed. This is probably because there are many moving parts and sub-parts for this printer. Luckily Canon has included a simple instruction sheet for assmebling the printer and it does help if you follow it right.
NOTE: The packaging does not include a USB cable. We used the one from our old printer. The reason Canon does not include a USB cable is because this is a fully networked printer; that means all its functionalities can work over Ethernet. However, you do need the USB cable for initial setup.
Network setup is a 2 step process. For the first PC, you need to have a USB cable connection and then you can connect via Ethernet. Subsequent PC''s don''t need USB for network configuration. My printer and first PC are connected to a Netgear Wireless Ethernet bridge, which also connects to my WiFi LAN. My second PC is a laptop is which connected to my WiFi LAN. Canon has included a separate Users guide for network setup which really helps.
Print quality is quite good though not the same as a laser printer. Given that this printer supports dual side printing, using a good quality inkjet printing paper such as a 24lb, 115brightness will be worth it. There are 2 sources of paper feeds, a rear tray and a cassette. Both trays support all the same paper sizes, except for business cards which are available only on the rear tray. You can use either trays by pressing the "switch feed" button on the printer control panel or from their print software running on the PC. The print speed for one-sided printing is very fast, for both black and white as well as color printing. However, two-sided printing is quite slow. There is a noticeable pause between printing the two sides, and one would almost be tempted to pull the printout out of the output tray after printing one side.
As a photo printer, I think the quality is acceptable. I''vent used it for any scenic/outdoor photo''s. But it is ok for identity-card/passport photo''s, which you need in a jiffy and don''t consume too much ink. For other photo''s, you are better off using Costco or Walgreens anyways.
The MX850 supports dual sided scanning over the network. The Automatic Document Feeder(ADF) is supposed to hold 30-35 sheets, though it looks quite slim. The scan quality is good though not exceptional. Again dual sided scanning is much slower than single sided scanning, but with ADF you can move on to other tasks, while the MX850 goes about scanning. For multiple photo''s on the flatbed, it will create separate jpeg files. However, if you scan two set of documents with a time lag in between, they will be scanned to the same pdf. However, their print software does allow you to delete individual pages from the pdf, which is useful if not all pages in your original document set are two-sided. You can also re-arrange the pages if they are not in the order you want them to be in, using the Canon software.
The copying is the same as scanning followed by printing; so there is not much to write about it. I''vent tried FAXing yet.
On the whole, I''m very satisfied with the printer although it has just been a few days of usage. The printer has good features and their software is feature rich too. My only peeves about the MX850 are that it does not support Linux. Also, it has these ghostly/spooky movements and noises that it will do, probably because the print-head is being reset, even if it is sitting idle for some time. It also seems to vibrate noticeably while printing; though not so much as to topple a cup of coffee. A stable printer stand/table would be much recommended. Since the printer seems to be from the same family as MP830, I also expect to be quite generous in consuming ink.
All said and done, I would recommend this printer to anyone who is not a heavy user of print functionality. It will get small jobs done to more than your satisfaction.
Want Canon Pixma MX850 Office All-In-One Inkjet Printer (2436B002) Discount?
I was initially going to buy an HP all-in-one (L7580, L7680, or C7280) to replace my HP OfficeJet G85, which would not scan with Vista. I was not comfortable with the HP customer reviews, though, as they confirmed some of my own doubts from seeing the products in stores. I kept looking and came across the new Canon MX850 and decided this was what I had been looking for. This product is worth the full list price, so Amazon''s discount and great shipping made it an even better value.I set up the MX850 on my home network, which includes a Linksys Wireless G router, a Vista laptop, and an XP desktop. The setup worked perfectly the first time, and all functions work flawlessly from both PCs. You use a cable connection from the MX850 to the router, but this is not a problem for my setup. I did not have to call tech support, but it appears from other reviews that it is excellent, and in English.
Print speed is excellent, and the photo quality is also excellent. I printed some photos using the sample 4x6 paper that came with the printer, and they are as good as the same photos printed by the Kodak Gallery web site. I also like the included duplex (two-sided) printing, which is extra on many other products in this price range. The control panel is well designed and intuitive. The unit seems to be solid, durable, and well-constructed.
There a few minor points for improvements. First, the Canon takes a little more overhead time than the HP OfficeJet to clean or check the print heads or ink tanks, so sometimes you wait a short while before it actually starts to print. Second, when you set up your printing specs on your PC, the specs are not communicated to the MX850, so you have to set them up there as well. For example, if you''ve been printing on regular paper and now you want to print photos, you have to set the paper size, paper type (glossy, etc.), and print quality on your PC and then also set them on the MX850. Third, the standard print quality for text is not quite as dark black as the HP OfficeJet, but you only notice it if they are side by side. Last, the setup process adds a ton of software to your PC, including eight new desktop icons, two system tray icons, and five new Canon folders in the start menu. None of these are real problems, just observations.
Overall, I rate this as an excellent product for price, functionality, and construction. Buy it!The Canon mx850 has some great features that very few printers have. I use the print and copy feature the most (actually I haven''t even used the fax or scanner yet) and I love the fact that I can do double sided copies. The copies have been suitable for me at this point, but I haven''t had to have a critical eye to judge them.
At first, I was pretty disappointed with the printing aspect of the mx850. The text looked like it came from a poor inkjet, even at a "high" quality setting. My old printer, the HP Photosmart 1115 (I had it for 5 years) definitely printed better text, which I found odd since it had 5 year old technology. I was finally able to figure out how to get crisp clean text and better quality photos (I''ve been trying to print my marketing materials such as brochure/rack cards). In the Printer Settings, if you click on Media Type: Photo Paper Pro and then click on Print Quality Custom and then ''Set'', set it to "1" being the highest. This made my rack cards look so much better than using any other media setting and quality setting. Actually, I went through each media type to see ifyou can set it at "1" quality, and I think the Photo Paper Pro was the only choice. Which means that Canon wants you to think that Photo Paper Pro is such a good quality paper that your prints look better, but really what''s going on is that the printer won''t print high quality prints unless you select that media type.
So, I was going to give it 3 stars until I found the ability to do that. I can''t judge the faxes and scanning aspects, but I won''t use those as much and I don''t have a high expectation of them. I just wanted a good printer and copier that can fax and scan.
Hope this helps....

We liked this printer for it''s good quality printing, and cheap ink tanks, but on the second color cartridge the magenta nozzles clogged, and I''ve pretty much burned all the ink in the brand new cartidges trying to get it to work. Now I wish the cartridge came with a new print head like my old worn out lexmark...Going through Canon''s interactve "troubleshooting", it seems like they don''t believe the print head can fail. I''ve done a lot of searching tonight, and I can''t seem to find replacement print heads sold anywhere...
I can''t recommend this printer.

I have both the i250 and the i350. The i250 print head failed after 3 months of use (blank lines in the middle of words), but was still under warranty, so I managed to persuade Canon to send me a new print head. BTW, the print head costs about $45 to $50... almost the same as cost of the printer. Next, I upgraded to the i350. This time, the print head took 8 months to fail...same problem. I regard these as disposable printers, nothing more. They work great until the print heads fail.Want Canon i350 Color Bubble Jet Printer Discount?
I bought this printer because it was getting good reviews and was very inexpensive. When I recieved the printer the box had a giant hole in it and the packaging in the inside was broken but the printer looked fine. Set up is extremely easy and impossible to screw up. So I was very suprised when the printer was showing that there was an error with the ink cartriges. I called Canon and after a few minutes they determined that there was some sort of hardware problem. They sent a brand new printer which arrived the next day. The second one set up in a couple of minutes and works perfectly. Also I ended up with extra ink cartriges because the only thing Cannon wanted back was the printer and print head. The printer works great (a little noisey and slow, but inexpensive) and Canon had excellent customer service. I suspect that the printer was damaged during delivery and not during manufacturing. In our household we have both an i350 and an i250. On both we like the print quality and ease of use. The i250 does sometimes need to be set on high quality printing to get a good looking Word document out of it. Never had that problem with the i350.Only complaint; these less expensive ink cartridges are smaller than I am used to and seem to require replacement more frequently. The price when I first puchased this was around $7 for a black cartridge. It has increased by over a dollar so I have begun to purchase Staple''s private label brand cartridges.
One other word of advice; this printer uses Canon''s BCI-24 cartridge, which is a little more difficult to find in local stores than their more common BCI-21 cartridge. It''s frustrating to see a great buy on cartridges at BJ''s Wholesale Club, only to realize that the only Canon they stock is the 21.

I even contacted Brother to make sure it was going to be easy to install. I chose this model PSC2355 because I did not need a fax but wanted the LCD screen to be able to use this printer with or without my PC as my camera is older, without PictBridge and I liked having these options. You can get this model HP printer without the LCD and you get have this model with the LCD and with a fax!
Installation went well and was quite fast. Seemed like less than 15 minutes total. I use Windows XP with cable. To use my scanner after installation, I clicked on start in my taskbar. From there, I clicked on scanners and cameras which brought up the HP scanner icon with model number. Double click on the icon and it opens the welcome box to the scanner and camera wizard. Click next to continue and when that opens, choose your picture type (I like "custom" for the scan quality) and then click "preview". This way you can use the sizer so not to scan all the white of the lid surrounding your scanned piece (for example: a 4x6 picture). Warning: 2400 does take considerable time! On the next option it asks you what you want to do so choose your 1 of 3 options and click next. Then you can view your scan from that menu or click finish and open the file later but clicking finish opens the folder automatically for me. I didn''t find installation hard or buggy not at all. It had to be intuitive because I am an old woman and not that computer smart but I had no problem understanding this installation. No buggy software for me. I did not get a bunch of unwanted software installation but I did load the CD for HP image zone and find that I like it for a quick enhancement and printing option.
I find that I MUST use the PHOTO cartridge when printing photos!! You CAN use ONLY the tri-color and black cartridge that come with the printer and you will still get nice pictures but if you are the least bit finicky as I am, you WILL WANT TO USE THE PHOTO CARTRIDGE! It will make the world of difference in your print quality! Also, and especially if you do not use any photo imaging software, you just might want to dabble with your printer options because on those "special" pictures, you REALLY WILL see a quality difference when you learn how to tweak with these options. Wow, I have produced stunning photographs utilizing many different features. Please note: this printer uses only the newer Vivera inks. Number 95 or 97 tri-color, 94 black and 99 photo.
I am very happy with this printer. I don''t know what this nonsense is when people say it won''t print in color or it prints lines. Something is wrong but it may not be the printer...
During the past 8 years, I have owned a Canon, an Epson and HP and have been pleased with all three. I prefer HP because I like a new printhead each time I change a cartridge.
No matter what I did, all my printers used gobs of ink and cost an arm and a leg. I had various problems with all of them yet they were all nice printers. However, I do like this model all in one because it does a bit of everything. If you are buying this just for the scanner for old family pictures and film, then this is not the scanner for you. It gets the job done and can even make great scans, providing your original is good quality but it is not a dedicated scanner for photography professionals and enthusiasts. This all in one is a great printer but is simply providing you with more just to give a little home office for a lesser price. My opinion is to go for a dedicated film and photo repair scanner if you expect to fix old film and photos.

After studying very carefully, including specs, reviews, and even manuals, I bought the HP PSC 1610. It''s quite a bit less expensive. The only difference I could find is that you can''t see the photo from your camera on the 1610 screen (you just see printing). But, if you''re doing most of the photo editing on your computer, I can''t see any reason to spend the extra money for the 2355. BTW, I just printed a 4 x 6 photo on the 1610, and it was excellent.Read Best Reviews of HP PSC 2355 All-in-One Printer Here
Hi,I have to disagree with the negative reviews. I have read all of them and it seems that, aside from two that had Software issues, or maybe a bad machine, the other negative reviews were from people that had special needs, or were using this for not what it was designed.
I needed a scanner so I bought a printer. As a rule, I don''t like to buy the multifunction machines, not for any specific reason. But I reviewed and searched and I found this printer. Again I was skeptical as it was a multifunction machine.
I had no problem with the instalation and the software was not a problem for me. I use a home made PC AMD 2400, and I am using XP Pro. I have not had a problem and it has been flawless.
I like all of the features it has to offer. The Scanner, and the Card reader is especially nice I was surprised as to how well that works. That was a plus, I thought it would work but not spectacularly, I was surprised, it works great.
To go back to the scanner it is great it will make excellent copies with a single push of a button. You can make copies with out the computer being on. It is a simple push of a button and a copy is made. Very nice.
Printing photos is easy also, and again a PC is not really needed. The printer scans from a Media Card (it will read like all of them). You see the photo in the window, and select and print.
The only problems I have found. The black ink cart is too small. The paper ''catching part'' of it is lacking. I wish they could have redesigned that part. But it is not a big problem as I would not down grade it for that.
The absolute biggest drawback is the paper feed is too small, I am always having to add more paper. It seems like the feed tray is too small. Again I am happy with it so much I can live with that as well.
It is a very nice size, and price. All of the parts of it work so well. It is a printer I will use for a very long time.

HP hardware is generally good stufflasts a long time, does a excellent job, and looks nice. The HP PSC 2355 is no exception. The quality of the printing is top notch, it is very intuitive to use, and image slots as well as screen are useful features. I especially like the fact that the print-head is built into the ink cartridge. This brings up the cost a little, but well worth it, because you are getting a brand new print-head every few months (this was a big problem with my old Epson). For an all purpose printer, I am very pleased. It prints quietly, and quickly. I was looking for a printer that does decent scans, copies, printing and pictures at a reasonable price. This does all of that wonderfully, and the small size is very convenient too.
Of course, there is one big problem, and that is the HP software. Setting up this software is absolutely HORRIBLE. It is amazing how incompatible the HP printer drivers are with the HP digital camera drivers. I spent hours and hours trying to solve problems with HP technical support; they are absolutely useless. First, pictures wouldn''t download properly, then the computer and printer wold not communicate correctlythe list goes on and on. HP Tech support failed to solve any of my problems. I had to do it all on my own.
In summary, the printer itself is great, once you''ve got it up and running. But to get to that point, namely installing the software, is a feat in itself. Buying this may not be the best idea for those who don''t find computers intuitive.
Important to note: This does NOT come with a USB cable to connect to a computer! I luckily had one from my old printer, so it wasn''t a problem for me.My experience with this printer has been very good!
Pros: Love the menu options, very nice prints with or without the optional photo ink cartridge. Wonderful stand alone printer/copier and even better performance when installed! Exceptionally nice photo copier with nice print options! The newer HP inks for this model certainly have lasted longer for me, giving more prints than my older HP that used cartridges 56, 57 and 58, which also gave stunning prints but did use the ink noticeably faster than does the newer Vivera ink cartridges that are made for these newer models. You can purchase a larger ink cartridge in the black and tri-colors and photo is an optional cartridge for this model printer which is only in the smaller size. The cartridge numbers are 94, 95, 97 and 99.
I get very nice scans but I do not use this scanner solely for beloved photos simply because after researching stand alone scanners which are dedicated to photography scanning VS the all in one scanners, I learned that all in one printer scanners of any brand are not actually meant to scan your precious family photos like a dedicated photo scanner would. However, I have been able to scan some photos with very satisfactory results and am very happy with the scanner. Overall, this printer is awesome!
No ink spills, bad colors, paper feed or installation issues here and I am quite happy after 4.5 months of use! I didn''t need a fax which is why I bought this model. For more money, HP has other models of the same printout quality that do come with a fax.
I am very satisfied with the color and quality of the inks. My prints are high quality, and true to life. I am a happy scrapbooker now with my HP PSC 2355 printer! Thank you!
Cons: It''s not exactly a slow printer but there are speedier printers to be had. Also that the #99 photo cartridge does not come in the larger size as the black and tri colors do.

Now don''t get me wrong. The printer dock itself is FABULOUS price-wise, especially if you buy a refurbished one off eBay like I did (87 bucks!!). Same one year warranty applies direct from Kodak. I was amazed at the quality of the prints. It''s really neat to watch it work, and it''s pretty quick. The prints look just as perfect as if they had come from the lab!I am a scrapbook fanatic, so this printer comes in handy... but there is one problem... the paper/cartridge refill kits are ridiculously expensive! Buying on Amazon they average about 50 cents per print, but buying from your local store it''s about 65 cents! Considering my local drugstore offers the same exact quality digicam prints for 29 cents each (10 cents on sale days and 10 free prints per month in the Sunday flyers), it''s a pretty big rip off. If you buy the larger 80 pack the cost is about 46 cents per print still far too high, in my opinion.
Other than the ridiculously inflated cost of the refill kits, I love this printer! The prints look fantastic, and the best part is the dock came with a rechargeable battery pack for my camera! The dock acts as a charging base as well, and it has a status bar to tell you how far the charge has progressed.
All in all, it couldn''t be more simple the dock is fantastic! But Kodak needs a reality check on the prices they want for refill kits. This worked great the first 6 months... other than I can NEVER get 40 prints from the cartridges as stated. Now it is not printing as clear, leaving odd discolor on the prints. I used the cleaner and no difference. I also hate that it often will not grab the paper and will pop up as out of paper when it is not. Looking for a better replacement. When I bought this overpriced item in December I was intially very pleased by the quality of the photos. However, the cartridges are very expensive and the paper tray is already warped. Tonight when I was trying to print the paper jammed so completely that I cannot get it out. I figure I paid over $300 for probably fewer than 100 prints.Got this little honey together with a DX6440 earlier this year and have been pleased as punch ever since! The camera takes great pictures at every setting night, landscape, auto and portrait. Got the camera because of the really, really close-up focus range (just inches from the subject!) and I haven''t been disappointed. I''m no great photographer -but this camera and dock make me look like one! I love the instant transfer feature and the photo film/paper. Photos look like they''ve been professionall processed (provided I remove the border carefully and completely to not leave any scraggly edges). I also bought the case and travel adapters. They come in really handy to supercharge my batteries outside of the US. Love it, love it, love it!

As of Jan 2012 this unit is still running properly, so it appears that it *can* be reliable, once you assemble it from reliable components.
Update:
Well... third time seems to be the charm, after swapping out two printer bodies and two duplex units this printer is FINALLY working properly, so I''m bumping it up to three stars.
Still, it took a lot of my time and effort to get things working; if you want to make the attempt I HIGHLY recommend purchase from direct form Dell so that service and support are available.
Original 1 Star Review:
In the 6 months I''ve owned this printer (purchased direct from Dell) I''ve been able to run 420 pages through it in duplex mode which is the only mode in which I have a use for it.
I''m now on my second printer body and second duplex unit you finally get one to work, then other quits, usually in the form of sensor errors that continue to report paper jams when paper path is clear.
You then have to remove and re-seat various components often 5-10 times before the printer "discovers" things are OK, then you run another 20-30 pages through it and it again reports a (non-existent) jam.
Least anyone wonder, I am *very* experienced with a wide variety of laser printer, have tried various types of paper, and spent several hours on the phone with Dell support based on my experience this printer''s design is just a dog if you attempt to run duplex mode.

I bought this printer 3 (THREE) days ago from AMAZON. Printer functions perfectly as it should but emits a high frequency/pitch noise. I called Dell regarding this issue and it turns out that any DELL products bought from any place except DELL have NO warranty. NONE. YES, ZERO warranty for a new product by DELL from Amazon. The technician was trying to tell me that I need to BUY a new diffuser on a brand new product and that by buying their product, there is still no guarantee that it would solve my problem.Amazon should have a disclaimer on DELL products that says NO WARRANTY.

I own the printer w/ duplexor and have run 2100 pages thru the unit with about 1000 of those duplex. The printer warms up fast and prints fast even when duplexing. The included drive works great over the network and has many cool feature such as the ability to print in booklet mode where the print driver re-organizes the print job so you can fold over an 8 1/2 x 11 page an make a booklet that is doublesided.
The color is great and the color supplies are low cost from Dell and even cheaper from aftermaket suppliers.
If you use an aftermarket cartridge you have to select tell the printer to use non-oem carts.
I have had 0 paper jams, 0 dupelxor jams or issues.
When printing I dont have the whine noise, but it is not a quite printer but this is really a business peinter and at the price is a much better printer.

Printer is now discontinued but while it was available it was a work-horse and very affordable print per page IF you did not use Dell-brand toner.I bought this printer after reading many reviews and it seemed like a sound purchase, although I was duly warned by the reviewers who noted that Dell will not honor warranties when you purchase thru Amazon. I wish I had paid more attention. Here are my problems:I have never gotten the colors to register and find the registration process difficult to understand and to access. There is a white line around my cyan based colors where they don''t register with the others, and no amount of adjustment in the tool box has helped it. I am a designer and high quality prints are of the utmost importance to me. The colors are no where near the colors shown on screen, and I have used it with 3 different computers to the same disappointing end. It is not a monitor issue, the previous printer I used (Konica Minolta Magicolor 2300) was very good indeed on delivering great color match.
The toner cartridges do run out fast but as noted by others, they are inexpensive and I have not noticed much difference between Dell and off-brand toners in the color quality (or lack thereof). If you just want bright color you will certainly get that, but accurate color is much harder, particularly when the colors required are neutrals. I realize this is an inexpensive printer but I am so profoundly disappointed I don''t know what to do.

OCR optical character recognition is done using Omnipage16 by Nuance (see more below). It works very well but it has an annoying quirk. Omnipage16 will CRASH if the printer is not ready (set to Scan/Remote PC/Twain) before you tell it to scan a page. In this case, you MUST ctrl/alt/delete, start Task Manager, and close Omnipage16 from the Application tab. Then switch to the Processes tab and End the 2 Twain processes you will find on the list. Finally restart Omnipage16.
I purchased this from a major office supply company whose name starts with "S". I will update this review if my opinion changes.
My old all-in-one is an HP Officejet Pro 7580. It worked great for 16 months until the genuine HP ink began to leak. Replacing the ink did no good. It was costing a fortune to keep buying HP ink so I began using generics, but generics are NOT at all water resistant. The ink jets have slowly gotten clogged over time until the color does not work anymore and even B&W is iffy. I am feed up with ink jets! You cannot beat the per page cost of lasers, but what to buy?
Spec Comparison:
I compared the following similarly priced monochrome laser all-in-one printers: Brother MFC7860, Cannon imageCLASS MF4880, Cannon imageCLASS MF4890, Samsung SCX-4729FW, and Okidata MB451w. All scan in color. All have auto duplex print, but ONLY Okidata and the Canon 4890 have duplex (double sided) copy and scan. Okidata has a Duty Cycle (a measure of durability) of 50,000 pages per month while all the others are rated about 10,000 pages. The Okidata is not flimsy and weighs 44 lbs while the others weigh about 22-25 lbs. Samsung and Cannon have toner cartridge integrated with the drum (replaced whenever you replace the toner), while Brother and Okidata have a separate drum. Brother and Samsung have annoying 2-line displays while Cannon has 5 lines with backlight. Okidata''s 3.5 inch display has variable lines, but about 5-6 lines with backlight AND a help function. Print speed for Okidata is 30 cpm single sided and 17 cpm duplex (duplex is much faster than the other printers). Time to first page (in idle) is 5 seconds, but requires 25 seconds warm-up from Power Save, and even longer from Sleep.
Okidata Customer support: Live support 24 hours/day!
I called Okidata tech support several times, once getting though immediately, and the other times on hold for a few minutes. They claim the normal wait time is 60 seconds and that they have live support 24 hours/day! You will reach an actual person located here in the US or Canada and they don''t use a script with canned answers. When I called, they seemed both helpful and friendly and were able to answer my questions or quickly email me with the answer. Warranty for the US and Canada is one year ON SITE.
User manuals (basic, advanced and wireless setup):
The manuals are detailed, generally clear and well illustrated and are available on line. Update: as other reviewers have noted, a physical copy of the manuals are not in the box. Cannon and Brother have equally good manuals, but Samsung has an annoying pictogram type manual.
Installation and setup: easy
I have a fairly recent HP computer with Win 7, but drivers are available on-line for Win 8. Unpack, add paper and you are ready to copy. Wireless setup (using manual wireless setup) is only a few steps and is similarly easy IF you know your SSID (network name), password and security type (mine is WPA). It took much longer to read through the extensive manuals to see if I wanted to change any of the default options (for instance change fax auto answer to manual answer).
Function.
For the most part, the display menu system is self explanatory and guides the user in a helpful way. Many menus have a displayed "?" which means you can press the "help" button for more information. I see no problems with the print quality and Toner Saver seems almost as good. It prints fairly quietly (55dB), it is very quiet in Power Save and silent in Sleep. Power Save is 18 watts while Sleep is 3 watts. You can set it to turn off after a set amount of time. Both single side and duplex copying and printing are all a snap. Scanning from a PC is a bit confusing until you realize you have to select Scan/Remote PC (confusingly not Network or Local) on the printer, and then go to the PC. Then the ActKey software works great to scan it works much like the software for my HP inkjet printer and the color scan result is just as good as HP. I have not faxed yet.
Cost to Own:
The Okidata comes with a 1000 page starter cartridge. There are no generics. There are generics for Brother, Samsung and Cannon, but I see a lot of online complaints concerning generic toner. The Okidata toner currently sells for about $40 and has a spec of 1500 pages. This seems to be a roughly similar per page cost to Cannon and Samsung, but a higher cost to that of Brother toner, but Brother laser printers generally cost more upfront. Okidata claims a life of about 25,000 pages for their drum. For what ever it is worth, Okidata claims their "lifetime total cost to own" is substantially less than Samsung and slightly less than Brother.
Update 2/11/13:
A few printer makers have Android apps that allow wireless printing from your phone. Although Okidata does not have such an app, the Google Play store has a free app called Cloud Print which allows wireless printing from your phone to any printer connected to your PC (on a WiFi network). It works well from my Samsung phone to both my wireless Okidata printer and my old wired HP inkjet. Smart Office by Picsel also works, but costs a few dollars.
Update 2/12/13:
OmniPage SE ver 16 OCR software (by Nuance) is on the installation CD as a bonus, but Nuance does not provide any support, so I imagine this could potentially be a problem. Installation of OmniPage from the CD on my Win 7 computer went OK, except a start icon was not generated. I reinstalled ("repaired") and I still had to search for OmniPage (C:\Program Files (x86)\ScanSoft\OmniPage16\OmniPage16.exe). Once I had OmniPage running, it requested to setup the scanner (Okidata must be set to Scan/Remote PC). OmniPage has options of plain text, formatted text, and "True Page" and all gave perfect output as a Microsoft Word file.

The first reviewer did such a comprehensive review that there''s little more for me to say. The print quality is excellent! I haven''t tried to hook it up to the network yet. I''m using a usb to my desktop which does not have wifi.To me, the setup was confusingly simple or should I say specious? I kept looking for a quick start booklet, but there was only a small print set of pictures. I finally found the dvd inside. It has the manual and quick start guide. Both of those are okay to follow. I had tried to install before reading thinking that the dvd would have detailed instructions but it did not. Everything is in the pdf''s. There''s a procedure to follow to connect the usb (not provided) and power cables. That has to be done before the drivers are installed. There''s nothing on the dvd to tell you to install them. There are little "i" icons next to the items in a list starting with software. You have to click the icons before stuff is saved from the dvd to your PC. I stumbled around a little thinking, "There must be more to it than this?", but copying and printing from the pc worked okay. I''m not used to installations being so easy.I didn''t contact Oki support at all.
This is like an office copy machine in size and it''s really heavy. It has a big footprint snd don''t even think about putting it on a shelf. I would say that it''s built pretty solid even if it is plastic. Isn''t everything? It''s here; It''s setup; It works. I bought for reliability and that''s what I hope I get. I''m damned tired of buing ink. I really don''t need color since we have other printers for that. I''m glad a friend convinced me that a laser is a lot cheaper than ink jets in the long run.Easy to use, easy to connect. Not real pleased with the "picture" install guide vs. a real manual, but you get it all on a CD.
