B720DN Digital Mono Printer (47PPM)

B720DN Digital Mono Printer, 20V
  • Multifunction
  • OKIDATA OKI IMAGING PRINTERS TIER 2

This is a very fast printer. It holds quite a bit of paper, and it can print double-sided.

The real reason I got this particular printer is the incredibly fantastic deal I found for it on Amazon. It may not be worth buying at its regular price. After all, all it does is print black and white.

But it prints black and white very quickly and very well. It takes a few seconds to start up and receive the print job, and then it goes to work, spewing out one-sided or double-sided print jobs with amazing speed.

If all you''re looking for is a reliable, high-speed black and white printer that can print on both sides, and the price doesn''t turn you off, then you have my highest recommendation.

The OKI B720dn is a great Enterprise/Workgroup printer. If you are looking for an alternate to the HP 4015 printer, OKI''s B720dn printer provides speed, media handling, as well as standard features like duples (two sided printing) and network.

This printer is a real work horse, and perfect for any office environment where crisp clear documents are needed, but attention to costs is critical.B720DN Digital Mono Printer (47PPM), 20V

ASIN B000AYH7X4 Like almost all ink cartridges out there, it''s overpriced. Unfortunately, since they''re all overpriced, I can''t really take away a star for that.

It''s ink. It works, it runs out eventually, it''s kind of hard to say much about an ink cartridge. Haven''t yet had one clog up, but I do recommend storing in a plastic baggie if you won''t be using it for a while.

On the very upside, and earning this cartridge (and any other from Canon) a big gold star from me Canon runs a cartridge recycling program, with boxes available upon request from their website. I''m so impressed by the environmentally aware gesture that I''ll stick with Canon as long as I can!

I have a Canon photo printer, Canon PIXMA iP6220D Photo Printer, that uses this ink, Canon CL-52 Photo Ink Cartridge and I''ve gone through a full cartridge now, and I''ve had no issues with the ink, or the printer. I print photo''s on this, and a few DVD labels from time to time. The ink dries fast, does not smear, and looks like it came from the local photo processing places.

Canon ImageCLASS MF4350d Laser All-in-One Printer

Canon ImageCLASS MF4350d Laser All-in-One Printer
  • It has 250-sheet paper tray, 35-sheet ADF and built-in duplexer
  • Multifunction monochrome laser printer that scans, faxes, and copies
  • 250-sheet paper tray; 35-sheet ADF; built-in duplexer
  • High-resolution color scanning up to 9600 dpi
  • 33.6kbps Super G3 faxing for ultra-fast transmissions
  • Print and copy speeds up to 23 ppm

Overall, this is a good all-in-one laser printer for its price in consumer class printers. Here are some detailed comments.

1. The automatic paper feeder is well designed the situation that multiple pages go-through at once never happens (in HP 3050, this happens a lot).

2. Canon provided a well designed user interface functions are easy to follow and operate, including scan / printer / copy.

3. The automatic duplex print is excellent and make the printer worth what you paid for. But when using automatic double sided printing the print speed turns to be less than a third (instead a half) because the mechanical parts need a lot of time to flip the paper.

4. As some of you may have concerned, the latest firmware (02/09/2009) makes scan function smooth on a Mac all you need is to press the scan button. This is tested on a Leopard Mac Mini.

5. In case some of you want know the compatibility with printer servers, this printer is full compatible with Netgear PS121 printer server under windows vista (including automatic duplex) x86 and x64. It is NOT compatible with Netgear PS121 under Mac Leopard (no idea why installation smooth and prints went through nothing comes out of printer). This printer is NOT compatible with Maxtor Central Axis printer server function.

To summary, this is a good printer for its price. However, concerning its powerful function, you may want spend some extra money for the 4370n to enable every function on network if you are working in a networked environment.

I purchased this machine on Amazon in November. Overall, I''ve been happy with it. Duplexing was an important feature to me, and Canon appears to offer that on less expensive printers than other companies.

I don''t have a lot of experience to base my judgments on, but I think the print quality is very good, with a couple exceptions. First, the printing is sometimes crooked on the paper, especially on the back side when duplexing. However, the Canon rep I complained to said that a variance within 2mm is considered acceptable, so I measured and this printer is within that tolerance. It''s visible, though, especially on forms, such as printer checks. (Actually, my cheapest of Dell inkjets printed straighter.)

The other problem also appears when duplexing: on the back side there''s a strip of blurred printing from top to bottom where the toner didn''t bond. This only appears on the first sheet after the printer has sat idle awhile. The Canon rep had no answer, had not heard of this before.

Yes, you can scan from the machine if you download the firmware update.

I think I''d buy it if I had it to do over. It''s quick and has really crisp printing. If you want to compare, some similar Canons I looked at are the MF4150, MF4370dn and MF4270.

I am a bit disappointed after I''ve played with this copier ImageCLASS MF4350d. Note that Canon calls this a copier, not a printer. Thus, when you call Canon or search its site for help/technical support, make sure you select the "Copier" category.

This ImageCLASS MF4350d has been in the market for a while but no one reports this problem: up to this moment of writing this review, the machine cannot scan a document by using its own START button. Everything must be scanned via the software "Toolbox" from the computer.

I bought it a few days ago. I called Canon 1-800 for help but it was useless. Then I went back to the store and tried their demo machine; it has the same problem. Whenever I push the START button on the machine for scanning, there is always a beeping sound as a return but the LCD doesn''t show any error it always indicates "Scanning Mode." So I called Canon again to go over the story. Finally they admitted the problem and said that they are aware of this issue; their engineers are working on the new firmware to fix this. However it won''t be soon. The new firmware may be possibly released next month but could be later. I also wrote an email to Canon support to confirm this information one more time, besides their verbal confirmation over the phone.

In addition, the scanning has no detection senor. Thus, the scanned document (scanned from the computer) will go as large as the paper size, which is usually the Letter/A4 size depending on your settings. The scanned document will NOT be resized automatically according to the actual object(s). It is different from its ink jet printers, which usually detect the size of the document or photo and then resize automatically.

If scanning a document directly from the machine''s START button is important to you, you should wait to buy until the new firmware comes. If resizing the document or photo automatically is important to you, this copier or printer is not for you; you may consider others or Canon ink jet type printer. After all, this all-in-on laser printer is classified a copier internally by Canon.

I''ve had this product for over 6 months now and have owned several other printers in the past. This printer by far is the worst for toner cartridge life. I am using the recommended cartridge, Canon cartridge 104. The printer is constantly alerting that the toner is low and then forces me to replace the cartridge much earlier than necessary. It will stop printing even though the printing quality has never even faded. No amount of shaking the cartridge, placing it in and out of the machine, turning it on or off helps. I have used this type of cartridge in the past on other machines and have never been forced to change them so frequently. I would not recomend this machine or the use of these canon cartridges to anyone unless you have an unlimited income to continually purchase new cartridges.

This is a really great little printer for the money, It is; fast, quiet, and really easy to use. Prints are clean and professional. It is only black and white, but you can scan color items and print on an inkjet ( I use my old epson ) It is also totally MAC compatible! You have the option to scan or copy using either the feed or the flatbed.... Gotta say, I love this machine ! Although you have to go to canon''s website to download the drivers for Mac, if you call their support at 1-800-385-2155( if you''re a bone head like me) they will walk you through it and make sure everything is configured right. I give this two thumbs up !Canon ImageCLASS MF4350d Laser All-in-One Printer (2711B001AA)

Yes in the picture some sheets appear to just be a repeat of others, but it clearly looks like you''d get some white as well as various shades of off white, ecru, beige etc. along with the blue, green red, orange, yellow and purple. The item I got was not riverside cardstock, but Pacon cardstock and there were only about 10 colors in it. NONE of them were white or the various shades close to white. There was a yellow, two blues, a neon orange, a red, a green a purple and something somewhat magenta like. Luckily I won''t have to return it because I can give it to my kids to use for crafts, but I''m sad that it wasn''t what the picture shows and what I was expecting.

I only got 10 colors, all neon or very intense dark shades, which means that they are not at all good for using colored markers on. I guess you could used these to cut shapes out of, but these are no good for actually making your own colorful cards. All my markers (sharpies) look like black against this card stock. There are no lighter shades or anything close to white as displayed in the image. Very disappointed.

I bought this printer at Sam''s club (under $100) to replace another wireless machine an HP Photosmart psc 2510 that was worked successfully for several years.

The full installation process takes well over half an hour. Unfortunately, I was not able to get the wireless function working, despite many attempts and installing/uninstalling/reinstalling on two different computers. Lexmark live text support was very responsive, but after several hours of back and forth with them over the course of two days there were unable to get it going. In the end, the printer was accessible on my wireless network (I could ping it and log onto its URL) but it just stubbornly refused to print via wireless.

The machine did print reliably when connected via USB cable. Nice graphics, although fairly slow to spool up and to finish printing. Also, their software seems to enjoy putting annoying pop-ups on the screen.

Lexmark finally suggested that I give them remote control over my machine, but I was unwilling, considering that I would have to repeat the process on at least four different machines (2 desktops and two laptops).

It just shouldn''t be this hard to install a printer. I finally boxed up the thing and took it back.

They can call me when they have a better product.

This printer took a turn for the worse. From the moment it was taken out of the box it was seemingly a great printer for the money. It printed high quality photos, scanned in great detail, and was simple to set up. Well, at least for the first month. From there on out the printer started slowly having issues. It first started making noises as if something possessed the machine and were about to print out a 100-page document. However, at least it was still capable of performing all of its functions. After unplugging it for the first time from the initial install the printer went haywire. It would connect to my computer, but for some reason would not print anything i sent to it. After spending many hours on their website and talking to their customer service I was still unable to make any progress. After giving up on the life of the printer I plugged it back in to see if it could at least scan documents. I should have known I was in for a repeat of hours of wasted time and absolutely no progress. Let alone the the technical issues with the printer, it is impossible to refill the ink for this printer. Thus, you have to buy a ridiculously overpriced cartridge that cost as much as buying a brand new printer. Thankfully i bought this printer at a discounted price, but I would like to inform anyone else looking to buy this printer to not purchase this product.

I saw some reviews indicating that they had trouble with the wireless, given that I am very Tech Saavy, I was not concerned. It was actually simple to configure and only took about 10 minutes. The print quality is great, but I think that applies to most. I like the duplexing feature and there are large ink cartridges available too. My guess is that some people had problems configuring wireless due to security on their router, but following the directions should prevent issue. P.S. Super fast printing a big improvement over my old printer.

How about a pop-up once a week? you ink is low, for about 2 months.

How about anther pop-up? did you know you can recycle your ink

How about another? time to order more ink.

Not to mention the 5 calls to tech support, and I only get it to print about 1/3rd of the time. Save your money. Buy a print server and a real printer!

Brother PT1290 Home and Office Labeler Save 28% off

Brother PT1290 Home and Office Labeler
  • 15 Deco Mode Patterns to create extra-stylish and decorative labels
  • Built-in memory, saves up to 9 of your favorite labels
  • Professional Deco Mode layouts accommodate two rows of text
  • Six auto formats and seven framing options
  • Easy-view, 15-character LCD display

This is a good printer for someone looking to customize their labels with designs, upside down/right side up, reverse color and other fancy tricks. For business purposes, I''d recommend a printer that takes larger interchangable tapes and less gimmicks. Maximum tape size is 1/2" so dual line print is very small. Keyboard is very tiny, will be limited to two finger typing only. Has two fonts (Bohemia and Helsenki) but can alter with three sizes, three widths and nine stypes (bold, vertical, underline, shadow, hearts or stars, etc.) Emphasizes Deco Mode which does very fancy printing but wouldn''t be used in a standard business setting. Nice compact size so can be carried around easily. AC power supply is an optional accessory ($19) so may want to factor that into purchase, otherwise uses six AAA batteries.

I got this as a gift for my parents they will probably not use all the fancy features like the graphics you can add with this laber. It comes with one cartridge so you may want to add a few more.

My likes about the p-touch system:

1 labels last a long time but not forever

2 colors are available and easy to switch out

3 conservative on the batteries

4 compact and nice form factor like a typewriter but smaller I have 2 other smaller P-touch labelers that go in my trucks for labeling cables and wires very handy at times.

5 added fancy graphics features on this model my small ptouch system is only good for perhaps drawing a box around text, these get pretty fancy

6 new label design has a split down the middle making removal of the new backing easier prior labels were troublesome to remove the backing.

I bought this for my dad who turned 75. If he can use it, I think most any age person can get more organized. We find unusual uses for the labels it prints some are used not only to identify property but also to hold on the battery door on a flimsy product. Others are used to annotate a spreadsheet of medications with a new one before giving it to a new doctor. The uses just keep showing up for the product!

I bought mine during the fast and furious sale which closed out in 5 seconds as did the next model up with a usb interface. The graphicss are minimal on this but add a nice touch to someone who is beginning scrapping or wants a simple, easy to use low cost label. For serious graphics you will want the pc version. For my dad, this will do fine.

I labeled some outdoor stuff that faded out after a while (3 years) so do note that p-touch labels expire with sunlight.

Lastly, the features are well made such that the cover can be removed fast and replaced without any lost screws or broken snaps. This has always been a brother p-touch feature that I appreciate from my truck labelers which get the tape color changed frequently it''s matter of opening the door and replacing the cartridge no fancy stuff and can be done one handed. Without that design feature you could easily have a product that breaks far too soon. My 2 other p-touch labelers that are 7 years old and have been dropped off ladders at worksites still run fine. Its a quality product that will serve many purposes for a long life, which is why dad got one. UPDATE 1 year later his is still on the first set of batteries and running strong!

The extra space at the front of the label is definitely an issue for me. If you set margins to "Narrow" there is minimal space after the text but you still have 1" at the front so the text is not centered. The best way to save tape it to put it on "Chain Print" and print multiple labels at a time. Nonetheless, you still have to use a scissors to trim all the labels and that is a pain.

This is a great little label maker. It has some great options including adding fun symbols and shapes like hearts, stars and different fonts to your labels. I''ve used it to label glass containers in our pantry for baking items and love the neat and easy to read look of it. Very user friendly and easy way to keep things organized. Of course like all label makers I''ve used, it seems to use up more tape than I''d like but this one offers a great solution by giving you the "narrow margin" option. This avoids the extra inch margin on either end of your label. Great! I find myself looking for things to label just so I can use this labeler.

Before purchasing this product, you should be aware that it is designed for laminated tape and ONLY works on laminated tape. The machine itself costs 50% more on Amazon at the time I write this than the non-laminate model, and more importantly the laminate tape costs twice as much as the non-laminate tape. The laminate tape also can''t be written on. Moreover, because of concerns about the laminating print head, it is designed to waste an inch of the expensive tape each time you cut the tape. Since the tape costs $12 for the 26-foot tape on Amazon (and a Brother tech support told me it''s $15-20 purchased locally, yes, you read that right, almost as much as the machine), that''s fifty cents a foot, or about a nickle per inch. So that extra inch costs you a nickle each time, and each label costs you from 15 cents to 30 cents depending on how long it is. (My very first label, which says simply "Test", is almost 3 inches long and therefore costs almost 15 cents, with all settings on default.) I may return it, despite the cumbersome process for returning things online, because I don''t have any need for weather-proof labels and am not willing to pay several dollars extra a year for them. Now, if you are willing to always print several labels at a time, and cut the labels apart yourself with scissors, you can avoid this inch wastage by using the continuous mode. Or if you want a blank inch on either side of your label all the time, which is the default, then arguably it isn''t wasted. For me this isn''t worth the dime that 2 inches of blank space is costing me plus I didn''t want it anyway because it may unnecessarily make the label too long to fit on a file folder without cutting it with scissors myself, which is exactly the sort of manual thing that label makers are supposed to get rid of.

The second thing you should be aware of is that while the machine is quite powerful, it is not very easy to use. I am not saying the product is badly designed, it''s just that it has enough stuff crammed into it that I think will confuse many people (it confuses me slightly, and I have a Ph.D. in a technical field). The design could be a lot worse, but my guess is that for most people the extra options will simply confuse things.

So for those of you who just want to label file folders quickly and cheaply, like me, I''d consider Brother Personal Labeler Machine, White (PT90). Also, it seems the laminate tape models like this one also use 6 batteries, whereas the non-laminate like the one I link to above use only 4.

I was pleasantly surprised by the customer service. This unit isn''t new. It''s refurbished (nicely, I think). Frankly, at this price I''d accept a refurb, but this time I had to have a new and never-used unit for company purposes. I bought this item from USA Printer Guy. I called them and they immediately agreed to Fed Ex a new unit and a return shipping label without waiting for me to return the refurb. No arguments or multiple calls, or "you box up the unit, stand in line at the post office, return it and wait 2-4 weeks to get what you originally ordered." Or "what did you expect at that price?" I was so surprised I wrote this review. Assuming they come through as promised, I''ll buy from them again.

  • Versatile Functionalities with Print, Copy, Scan and Fax capabilities

Finding a reasonably priced all-in-one with duplexing, wifi, AND good support for OS X is no easy task. I''m very happy I came across this printer.

I''ve only had this unit for about a month, but so far, it''s fantastic. Quieter than the Brother printer it replaced, and unlike that old printer, two-sided print jobs don''t come out all curly. The document feeder on the top works well, too. Best of all (for me, at least), OS X users can access all the scan functions from the network. A lot of networked all-in-ones have pretty anemic support for Macs, so this was a very welcome discovery.

My only gripe is that I don''t think the device supports direct faxing from networked computers on OS X. I''m pretty sure the unit can do this in Windows, and manual faxing is obviously still an option. But "printing to the scanner" sure would be nice. Luckily, I bought this guy mainly for the scan and print functionality, so this limitation isn''t much of an issue for me. Heavy faxers (is this still a thing?) may want to look into this, though.

If you''re looking for a laser multifunction device with wifi and duplexing, the Samsung SCX-4729FW is definitely worth a close look.

Looks great, and it''s a pleasure to use. But keeping it fed is a lot more expensive than Brother models (MFC-7460DN and MFC-7860DW).

Samsung supplies could cost you $120 to $2,000 more than Brother supplies over the life of the printer (see below). Samsung tries to keep third party toner supplies off the playing field, and it hopes you won''t do the supply-gouge math.

PROs and CONs relative to the Brother MFC-7860DW -

PROs:

Nice appearance: Tasteful, refined. Looks like quality.

Fan noise does not continue for several minutes (vs Brother).

OKs:

Clunk-a-chunk printing noise is about the same as Brother

Control panel folds out for easy use while standing

CONs:

* Expensive Samsung supplies vs Brother (see Note 1)

Ok, even I admit that was horrible. Either way, they are good quality transparency films at a good price. Origionally I got a casette drive cleaning tape from the person selling me mine but I got the right stuff eventually and it works fine. I use mine to make negatives for making stencils with photo-emulsion and over-priced 110 micron screens also purchased from amazon. They work fine with the only issue being that they ocasionally leave a line of uncooked emulsion around where the sheet ends that gets washed out, leaving me to have to tape the stencil screen. Was that a run on scentence?

  • With an ultra-small footprint, it fits virtually anywhere in your home or small office.

A color laser printer is pretty much the only type of printer I haven''t owned before. Although since I have background in IT, I have most definitely used them. Laser, inkjet... dot-matrix, etc. You name it, I''ve used it. :) While the current price does seem like quite a bit, that''s very cheap in comparison to what color laser printers used to cost. So let''s see how this Samsung model does.

OUT OF THE BOX

If you''ve ever opened up a printer box before, you won''t find anything shocking here. You''ve basically got your typical box-shaped laser printer with a 100 pieces of tape and packing material to keep everything secure. It''s compact for a color laser printer, but on-par with most laser printers. Even if you''re an expert at this stuff it still pays to skim over the quick-start guide to make sure you don''t forget any packing material.

There is a power cable, RJ-11 phone cable, power cable, warranty stuff, setup instructions, etc. The 4 toner cartridges are pre-installed, but are easy enough to swap out.

As with most high-end printers you can connect it to your physical LAN, wireless, of USB of course. I normally go with the cable but decided to give wireless a try with this printer. To start you will need to connect the USB cable and pop-in the CD. I normally skip the CD and download the drivers, but Samsung''s site was going extremely slow. Not to mention, they''re website for drivers is at least a couple years out of date. Good luck finding what you need!

Fortunately, as long as you have the CD, the software will install and make sure it''s up-to-date for you. I went through the basic wireless setup instructions and in about 5 minutes, I was ready to go. The software isn''t the most user-friendly out there, but it''s should be simple enough for most folks trying to get basic functionality out of it.

CONTROLS

The printer has the standard controls to perform basic tasks such as print, fax, scan & copy. There is a disappointingly old-school monochrome LCD on the front panel. It''s on the small side and not all that easy to read unless you have enough light, and get up close. The menu''s let you do everything you need to from basic to advanced setup.

But I should warn those wanting to jump in there; this will totally confuse a novice user. This menu system layout has been around for decades and is about as good as it gets for type of display. Fortunately the basic controls and setup can be done from the software and you shouldn''t need to ever dig into the menu. But for advanced setup, like setting static-IP''s for example, the on-board controls are the only way to do this.

HARDWARE

As mentioned before, the printer itself is very basic and straightforward. The rear has the standard ports for phone, network, and power. The front panel will give you easy access to the 4 toner cartridges. Which is good, because based on the specs, a heavy printer is going to swap them out quite a bit.

And while on the topic, I always strongly suggest looking at the prices for replacement toner/ink on any printer you are going to buy. Especially laser printers. These things get expensive real quick. Don''t forget, they only include half-filled (or so) toner out of the box.

The paper tray is at the bottom and will protrude a few inches once you add standard sized paper. From the picture, you might assume it stays in there all the way. But it does not. I thought it was broken at first. There is a plastic cover so it doesn''t look bad or anything.

I also have this sitting next to a 4 year lexmark B&W laser printer and the layout is very similar. The way it scans and prints is pretty common these days. Except I think Lexmark''s control layout is a bit easier for somebody to figure out what everything does without having to stare at the buttons for too long.

PERFORMANCE

We can''t forget the most important part of a printer. I''ve already printed several colorful pictures and they look great; even on plain paper. The image is crisp, detailed, and colorful. The printer speed is faster than most inkjets and is more than enough for my uses. I copied a few other items in color with expected results.

I also tested out the wireless mobile printer using my Samsung Galaxy S2 and it worked great. Just install the Samsung Mobile Printer app from the Play Store and off you go. It automatically found my wireless printer and I was printing all kinds of pointless stuff in no time. While I can''t think of many situations where I need to do this, most guests are impressed nonetheless. :)

I wasn''t able to test the fax portion since it''s the year 2012 and I haven''t had a land-line or need to fax something in a very, very long time. But these things haven''t changed a whole lot, so I suspect it will work just fine.

PROS

+ Great print quality

+ Compact design

+ Easy toner swap

+ Separate toner cartridges

+ Mobile printing

+ Wi-Fi, LAN, & USB

+ Simple controls for basic tasks

CONS

Expensive toner

Not the most user-friendly setup

Paper tray sticks out a bit

Ancient monochrome display

Complicated process for advanced setup/config

CONCLUSION

As a technician, I often have to stand back and try to look at product as an "average user" is going to. I think for most folks who follows the setup guide, uses the wizard on the CD, and doesn''t try to get too crazy, it will work just fine. I do wish it had the nice color touch screens that most modern inkjets have and the toner wasn''t so expensive.

But then again, this is a relatively inexpensive home & small office color laser printer. That puts this in a completely different league. So once you take everything into consideration, I think you have a pretty decent and above-average product here and would recommend it to those in the market.

I really like laser printers compared to inkjet, because of the appearance and durability of the printed product. I especially like that you can use a highlighter on laser printed documents without the ink smudging or running. Try that with an inkjet. My affinity for laser printers usually comes up against the high cost of color laser printers and the lack of Laser all-in-ones on the market. Before getting this Samsung all-in-one, we used to have a black-and-white laser printer and a separate color inkjet all-in-one. That combination took up way too much desk space and was a lot to maintain. It also required a decision each time versus printing to color inkjet or gray laser. A hard choice on some projects. With this offering from Samsung, you don''t have to make those trade-offs.

This, CLX-3305FW, is fast (for the size and price), prints well, and has a very compact footprint. After a couple weeks of use now, only thing that I don''t like about it is the short life of the toner cartridges, especially the ridiculous ''starter'' cartridges that came in the box. You should price out the cost of replacement cartridges when you consider this printer''s price, because you''ll be replacing them soon after it arrives.

Other than the short life of the cartridges, I like everything about this system. It is extremely compact for a laser printer, especially for a color all-in-one. Getting it set-up was fast and easy, and each of its functions work very well. I had no problems hard-wiring it into my Linksys router and getting it installed on all our Windows 7 machines. It scans, prints, faxes, and copies very well. It isn''t super fast, but is fine for home use. The image quality both on prints and copies is better than I expected and as good as any other printer out there. My opinion is that they are all pretty perfect at this point. I haven''t seen a functioning printer that didn''t make wonderful prints in the last three years or so.

I really like the compact size, which is perfect for home use. If you know what you are getting into with toner cost (over $100 per 1000 sheets), and the numbers work for you, then I recommend this system. It is very easy to use and does a great job.

Pros:

* Small foot print, will not dominate your desk, smaller than most inkjet printers and lasers.

* Simple control layout, very easy to setup and use.

* All in one laser printer does not require PC to make copies, fax, or print photo''s from a USB Drive.

* Cheaper to replace toner vs your average inkjet printer.

* Feeder tray on top of the printer makes it easy to use varied sizes of papers, from normal letter, to legal, to envelopes or photos.

* Built in network for ethernet connection, Wifi, or normal USB2 connection to your PC.

Cons:

* The lower paper tray has a relatively small capacity. It stay compact unless you need to put letter size paper or larger paper. It can be a little difficult to reconfigure the lower paper tray size.

* Includes "starter" toner cartridges which have roughly half the print capacity as the normal cartridges, should have been full size.

* Relatively slow printing in relation to your average laser or inkjet printer, but not bad overall. It''s rated at 19ppm Black and white, and 4ppm color. I''ve found it to actually be a little slower than that, so not great for high volume printing use.

* No Auto Duplexer for dual sided printing. It must be done manually. This will not be a problem for most people, but for those who need to do large volumes of dual sided printing, this printer is not for you.

* Only supports USB drives and not SD cards or other media.

Conclusion:

The printer was easy to unbox and setup. I connected it to my wifi network without a hitch. Doing a copy is quick and easy, and I can choose color or black and white to save valuable toner. The print quality is very nice but nothing extraordinary. The print speed could be better, and the lack of a built in duplexer will further slow down print jobs if you need dual sided printing. The built in fax is easy to use as doing a basic copy, you need an available phone jack to plug into. I love the compact size of the printer which makes it easy to use in right quarters. It becomes a little less compact if you do need to use larger paper such as stars letter and the lower paper tray is a bit fiddly. Overall those it''s a nice printer, though a bit pricey for what you get comparing it to other models that will also print faster and have auto duplexers. For it''s high price, average print quality, somewhat slower than average print speed, lack of an auto duplexer for dual sided printing, and starter toner cartridges.

I use this printer in a home office. The first major project given to this printer was to print out wedding programs on cardstock. I needed an all-in-one that mainly does heavy small home office duties, but also can provide high quality prints.

## Assembly and Setup:

The assembly was pretty straight forward as the diagrams provided were easy to follow. As with most modern printers, it''s more difficult undoing all the packing tape than it is to plug the printer into the wall. The cartridges were pre-installed. The software setup was a bit of a pain. I had to go online to find the correct printer drivers. This took some time to navigate, download, and install the correct driver, compounding this time consumption was that I had to install the drive three more times on my various other PCs and laptops at home.

## Aesthetics, Ergonomics:

The unit has a compact design. I had a short square-shaped bookshelf that I had used

for my last all-in-one, and this fit perfectly in its place. The unit is a bit taller than my last

all-in-one, but mostly importantly, it was not wider or longer. One feature that is poorly

designed is the paper tray. The tray sticks out on the front side of the printer and is an

eyesore.

## Performance:

The initial duty given to this printer was to produce 130 color copies of a wedding program on cardstock. The cardstock had no issues feeding through the printer''s tray. The print

quality was fantastic. I could not tell the quality difference between this unit versus prints performed by professional units. Needless to say, I was very satisfied with the output.

One minor issue that came up was the printer generates quite a bit of heat when printing 100+ continuous pages. The heat affected the ink on the paper and at times had issues with minor smearing. After the wedding programs, I also printed various other documents through the basic print, scanning, and copying functions. This unit was really easy to use, and given that the outputs were only black and white, the quality was on par with many other home office all-in-one units. I was disappointed with the "Eco" setting. This was a preset that minimizes the use of black ink for any of the print or copy features. However, the print quality was suboptimal, and rendered this feature useless, as the output resembled a printer that was running out of ink toner (faded ink in the center of the page). I''m sure there is a way to set the advanced settings to customize the "Eco" feature, but if this is the case, why would the default be so useless? Finally, on a similar note, the advanced features on this printer are very extensive. Although I use the default settings for my initial tasks and projects, you can get lost in the menus and submenus customizing every feature of print quality, paper size, etc. If you have time to customize and review every submenu to optimize your printing requirements, then this should not be an issue, but I imagine, most people buy these units because they need to print/copy/scan/fax as soon as possible and as a replacement for their prior broken units, and therefore have no time to use all these advanced features.

## PROS

Super easy basic printing, scanning, copying tasks

Reasonably easy setup, plug and play

Fantastic print quality

Reasonably efficient use of space

Mobile, Wi-Fi, LAN, USB connections

## CONS

Complex advanced print features and setup

Expensive toner

Paper tray sticks out

Useless "Eco" print feature

I have been a user of color laser printers for years at work. This is the first time I have had one for home use. I have been very happy home user of HP inkjet printers for over a decade and have two in my home.

I have been using the Samsung CLX-3305FW color printer as a secondary printer since I received it. This printer will be more expensive to operate than my ink jets so I plan to use it only for higher end jobs (downloads of brochures and white papers, printing on letterhead, and/or copies that are not prone to ink smudges when highlighting). I am very happy with what I have experienced thus far. Its controls are very well designed and easy to use. It runs much quieter and faster than the inkjet and the copy quality is great, in both B&W and color. Colors, as advertized, are great.

Also, as a plus for me, two-sided copying is much easier, `cleaner,'' and superior to what I have had to endure with my ink-jets. In the past, when needing 2-sided copies, I have opted for Kinkos. This task can now be performed at home.

I found the Samsung CLX-3305FW color printer easy to set up out of the box. It took less than 30 minutes to set up and print my first copies. I have had some problems with the WiFi connection but these are not related to the CLX printer but, rather, to my router.

The unit''s footprint is small, requiring only 1.6 square feet of desk top space. I have mine on the top of a dresser in an unused bedroom. It is lightweight weighing in at just under 31 pounds.

The CLX-3305FW Color Laser Printer uses the following toner and consumables:

* Black: CLT-K406S Average page yield of 1,500 standard*** pages.

* Cyan: CLT-C406S Average page yield of 1,000 standard*** pages.

* Magenta: CLT-M406S Average page yield of 1,000 standard*** pages.

* Yellow: CLT-Y406S Average page yield of 1,000 standard*** pages.

* Imaging Unit: CLT-R406 Average of 16,000 black & white pages, or 4,000 color pages.

* Waste Toner Bottle: CLT-W406 Average of 7,000 black & white pages, or 1,750 color pages.

The CLX-3305FW Multifunction Printer is backed by a one-year warranty.

What I like most about this printer:

* Laser quality prints

* Speed and very quiet

* Multi-use

* Small footprint

* Graphic on my computer showing cartridge levels

* Easy replacement of toner (separate toner cartridges)

* Wi-Fi, LAN, & USB

This is an exceptional printer for those seeking an affordable laser printer to use at home or for a small business.
