As a former copier/MFD repair tech with 34 years of experience, I can say with confidence that the OEM product is ALWAYS superior to ANY aftermarket imaging supply item, no matter what the aftermarket product may claim. Just the act of disassembling a factory sealed toner unit will compromise its integrity if it is refilled and reused. There are moving parts inside a toner cartridge which can wear out if it is reused beyond it''s designed lifespan, causing toner leakage or poor image quality. Additionally, the toner used in "compatible" copier supplies is often contaminated with moisture or other impurities that cause it to clog up. Aftermarket toner may also pose a health risk, because it may not meet the same safety standards as the original, due to using poorer quality chemical components, or different formulations.

I ordered this replacement cartridge two years ago. My wife works from home and prints a fair amount on a daily basis. As well, my kids and I also frequently print maps, homework, etc. etc. Bottom line is that depsite frequent, daily use, this cartridge has performed admirably. Only now, after two years, its finally showing signs of giving-up. But it still works. I just ordered another one to have on-hand when the old one finally dies for good.

There are other options to buy less expensive, generic products. But a printer is an appliance that MUST be reliable and provide satisfactory results in my household. That said, I''d rather pay a premium price for a product that has proven to provide LOOOOONG life and crisp print-outs. I can handle $50 every two years.

First of all, always always always buy OEM toner. It lasts longer, produces better quality, and won''t void your warranty. I used to repair printers, and have seen what happens when a cheap knockoff fails catastrophically. Hint: time to buy a new printer.

The seller sent mine out first thing on Monday even though I ordered over the weekend. I received it before Amazon''s estimated arrival date by a day. Fast, expedient service. This is the first time I bought from this seller, but I would buy again.

This paper is well finished and prints and feeds well in my large format printer. Single weight does not feed or print consistently well, this Double Weight does. Prints hold up well too with this.

Love this doubleweight-matte paper by Epson. I use it with my Epson 9900 and have never had a problem with it. The color quality is great, both for delicate lines and full-bleed matte photos. Ink dries instantly on this media and never smudges. The Epson paper stays flatter post-print then other generic papers I''ve used of the same paper-weight.

Canon i70 Color Bubble Jet Printer

Canon i70 Color Bubble Jet Printer
  • Up to 4,800 x 1,200 color dpi resolution
  • Up to 13 ppm black, 9 ppm color; true borderless photos
  • Direct printing from select Canon digital cameras
  • USB interface; PC and Mac compatible; wireless IrDA for Windows
  • Supports optional battery for fully portable operation

THE GOOD:

(1) This is the lightest printer among peers. HP''s 450cbi, the closest alternative in my book, is nowhere near as portable as the i70.

(2) Prints directly from a digicam. I use Canon''s G3, and I can now share photo print-outs straight from my camera. No need to lug my laptop around.

(3) The battery life is great, don''t believe detractors. IN general you don''t need the battery -that is only for outings, for those occasions when you just have to print out something while sitting by the lake.

(4) It is FAST! Especially for color prints, it outpaces my full-blown HP laserjet.

(5) It is QUIET. You''ll have to get used to its noiseless printing. First time round, I had to check to make sure the paper was printed on.

(6) Is a breeze to INSTALL. Something you can expect from Canon, of course.

(7) Works with both Windows and Macs.

CAVEATS:

(1) The photo quality may not appeal to shutterbugs, especially if NOT printed on photo paper, but for general office workers with little desk space or for folks with a packed travel roster, the i70 is a pretty safe bet.

(2) The ink costs may sky rocket quite quickly if you print colored stuff often. If, like me, your general printing is B&W, then this is a great buy.

(3) The price, especially if you buy the battery pack. But there are deals if you know where to look.

SUMMARY:

A great overall printer, definitely if you need to carry one around. I purchase Epson''s photo paper (not Canon''s own) for color shots and the i70 prints more than adequately. The speed, the quality and the quietness make it one of my top printer recommendations -all things said, even better than a regular inkjet.

I just bought this yesterday, so this is just my initial impressions.... I saw it in the store beside the HP 450. The i70 was about half the size of the 450. The Cannon rep was there and I asked for both a photo and text to be printed. The results were pretty awesome for such a tiny printer. This is just the perfect printer for a laptop.

But the only connections are via USB or infra-red. No parallel port! (That official Amazon.com review is wrong about this.) It comes with AC adaptor.... Also no USB cable. So it winds up being pricey. But it''s worth it. It''s also very good looking... not like that older model (Cannon 85?) which was an ugly black box.

The infra-red port is on the right side. My laptop''s infra-red port is also on the right. Since I didn''t want a backwards printer, I went with the USB connect. Installation was very easy. They give you a large, but one-page step-by-step guide. I was printing in about 15 minutes.

It has one tub for color ink and a second tub for black ink. So if you print a lot of text, you won''t use up that expensive color ink.

I hope that this printer can last as long as an HP printer. If it can, Cannon has HP beat.

My husband was going to a two-week writer''s workshop, and needed a printer to bring along. We bought a Canon i70 bubble jet printer, even though it cost considerably more than most low-end printers. We haven''t regretted the purchase for a moment.

The printer has two strong marks in its favor:

* It weighs only 7 pounds. It''s also about the size of a hardback novel, and slid right into his iBook-and-computer backpack. (Other people had to ship a box, complete with styrofoam and packing tape.)

* The ink cartridges cost $11 each. (Amazon''s likely to cut the dollar amount, so I''ll also point out this costs less than two fast-food dinners.)

At the relatively low ink price, we assumed that the printer would go through ink faster than I can eat a box of Lindt chocolate truffles. So we made sure to get a second cartridge before he left. To his surprise, a single ink cartridge lasted the entire two weeks -even though he went through an entire ream of paper. (Not single-spaced with lots of fonts, and no color to speak of, but that''s still pretty impressive.)

Note, however, that the i70 doesn''t hold a lot of sheets at a time. That wasn''t a criteria for the traveling printer (and we have a color laser at home, so it doesn''t get much use off-the-road), but it might matter to you.

To be honest, we haven''t done any real color printing on it yet, other than to test that it worked. So I can''t speak to that. However, it''s certainly fast.

Bottom line: if you need a truly portable printer, I don''t think you''ll do better than this. While plenty of other inkjets are light enough that, yeah, if you had to bring it along you COULD, the Canon i70 is easy enough to grab and stuff in your luggage. You''ll take it along without a second thought.

I am a real estate agent and use this printer to print out contracts from my laptap. It fits in the front flap of my carrying case, hence negating the need for another bag. Slick, prints fast and easy to set up.

Here are some cons:

Infrared sometimes does not "connect" as fast

Ink dries up FAST!! Granted my contracts are lengthy, but I can''t get thru one complete contract (about 25 pages) without it drying up on me.

Besides the two complaints listed above, it is great.

As a road warrior, I bought the i70 to replace my old Canon BJC-85, and to use with my Powerbook G4. On the plus side, it is fast and prints reasoably good text, and very good photos if you use photo paper. The black ink tank could be bigger, but that is a minor issue. It is the smallest printer of its type that I have seen.

The real problem is that at a certain point, you will have to replace the waste ink tank, something that I did not have to do with previous Canon printers. This is not something you can do yourself; you must send or take the printer to an authorized service facility, and pay around $115 for the replacement. That is equal to half of what I paid for the printer approximately 2 years ago. And if you ignore the warning light, the printer will just quit on you in the middle of an important print job.

Cannon says that as a "loyal" customer, they will give you a discount on a new printer, instead of replacing the waste ink tank, however, they will not tell you what that discount is up front. Further, a tech at the service facility told me the newer models, such as the i80 and ip90 have the same flaw engineered into the product. Seems like Canon has decided their authorized service facilities are more important than their customers.

I wrote to Canon, and received the reply that my comments would be directed to the appropriate person. I hope so.

Harman by Hahnemuhle Gloss Baryta Alpha-cellulose

Harman by Hahnemuhle Gloss Baryta Alpha-cellulose, Warmtone Glossy, Fine Art Inkjet Paper, 320gsm, 17 inch x 22 inch, 30 Sheets
  • Baryta based inkjet media
  • Wide tonal range and deep blacks
  • Instant dry
  • Water-resistant
  • Compatible with dye and pigment inks

This is pretty special paper. The quality, DMAX, make it very nice. It''s not as thick as Hahnemule Fine Art Baryta, which I prefer, but it''s also not as expensive. For those looking to have nearly the best at a lower price point, this has my recommendation!

HP Photosmart 335 Compact Photo Printer (Q6377A#ABA)

HP Photosmart 335 Compact Photo Printer
  • Resolutions up to 1,200 x 1,200 dpi black, 4,800 x 1,200 dpi optimized color
  • Prints borderless 4-by-6 and 4-by-8-inch photo cards and 4-by-12-inch panorama shots
  • 1 USB port and 4 memory card slots; 32 MB standard memory
  • 1.5-inch diagonal image display to view and select photos
  • Lightweight, compact design; Windows and Mac compatible

Bought one of these for wifey''s birthday since she wanted to have a simple way of making prints without using the computer based printers in our home. VERY simple to use; plug it in, turn it on, select language, insert card, select which image to print by scrolling forward or backward on the display, put in a sheet of paper and push the print button. Print quality results are very good as good as my HP 7660 albeit slower to print. Would give it five stars if the screen resolution were better and the speed was a bit quicker. She likes it for it''s simplicity, print quality and is really thrilled with it overall.

I purchased this for myself since I did not want to keep up-loading and waiting on delivery of my pictures from some of those online retailers. Not to mention the price of those on-line retailers can be expensive. Plus I wanted a quick and easy way of making photos without using my computer.

This printer is very easy to use. Once set up, all you do is insert your memory card, select which image you want to print by scrolling up or down on the display, put in a blank 4" x 6" photo paper (preferably glossy, not matte) and push the print button. The quality of the prints from this printer is fantastic. As good, or better, that HP''s more expensive models (HP 425 or HP 475) and just as good as some of Cannon''s & Epson''s more higher priced models. Absolutely one user friendly stand alone photo printer with great pictures.

It''s small, lightweight and very compact. Design features are very functional and it looks really sharp.

The prints speed is a little slow and the LCD screen is a bit small, plus the ink cartridges may be a little expensive. But, I was able to print approximately 90 photos from the originally supplied cartridge. I expect to get a lot more photos when I replace this cartridge with another retail purchased one, because we all know the original ink cartridges supplied with most printers are only approximately 1/2 filled with ink. One thing to remember: DON''T buy any other replacement ink cartridges except the HP 95. And definetly DO NOT buy and refurbished or re-filled ones.

In the latest comsumer reports survey, this printer really scored well vs. some stiff competition. It ranked in the top 7 of 27 other different models tested. Finishing with an overall score of 65; an Epson model scored the best at 75 and a Kodak scored the worst at 37. This HP 335 even placed higher than the HP 475 ($230.00) and the HP 425 ($190.00) and at a better cost ($100.00). I purchased mine for approximately $80.00 from Amazon.com

Nevertheless, for the money and quality of pictures you receivce from this printer, it''s well worth the money invested.

This printer was purchased for my wife''s birthday and arrived

in two to three days. Considering money spent the printer

works quite well. Pictures come out very good overall. An

HP 95 or HP 97 cartridge is used for color photos. It contains

three color inks but no black. Still, photos will easily

satisfy the average owner. An HP 100 cartridge can be used

for black and white photos. Yes, the color cartridge must be

exchanged for the black one when converting from color to

black and white and vise versa. Even so, we find the printer

fun and very simple to use. Just keep in mind that the price

of ink will soon exceed the price of the printer if used

often. What we do is use it for special occasions or when

the grandchildren come over.

Good printer for on the go. Take it with you on vacation, business trips, wherever you might need a photo printed. It is a little slow to print (between 1 and 2 minutes per photo) and sure the paper and ink are a bit pricey, but all photo printers are. If you want cheap get your photos developed at Wal Mart or Target, but if you want convenience, a reasonable price, and the ability to print photos when and where you want then I''d go with this printer.

The Photosmart 335 is easy to use even for technophobes and delivers quality prints. Only gripe is the ink cartridges can be expensive.

Royal TS4240 LCD Touch Screen Restaurant and Retail Cash Register with Thermal Receipt Printer Save 30% off

Royal TS4240 LCD Touch Screen Restaurant and Retail Cash Register with Thermal Receipt Printer

  • High Speed Thermal Printer Included

I normally don''t write reviews, but this product was so bad I have to give my "two cents". I purchased this cash register to replace my old Royal cash register (10 years old and still works great). Touch screen programming is very general and cannot be customized as much as I had hoped. Two days after using it in my store, the cash drawer stopped opening, then 9 days later the printer locks up. I returned it. Royal makes great cash registers, but does NOT know how to make touch screen registers. My employees thanked me when I told them I was returning it. I''m forking out the extra money for a "REAL TOUCH SCREEN" register.

I never buy anything online without reading these reviews, which is why I HAD to give my input. I admit that programming this machine was a BEAST because I couldn''t sync to my computer (missing driver or something) but once everything is in there it is a dream to operate. My cashiers love it and it makes my life so much easier because I know what items are selling, what''s not, how much per hour (so I can more efficiently manage scheduling), and so many other wonder features for such a great price. My only complaint is that the buttons across the top row of the touch screen can be difficult to maneuver, sometimes activating the key below the one you want, but this is resolved by using your fingertip instead of the stylus (or fingernails). Overall a great product!

I bought this for my business because it is touch screen but the screen is not that responsive. You need really tiny hands to hit the right item.

Although it seemed to be a good bargain, this register is fatally flawed in that it has no VOID function, no NEGATIVE function or key, and no paper journal; essentially your clerks had better be 100% accurate all the time, as there is NO system for correcting or even finding mistakes after a sale is completed. How the people at Royal could have missed installing such basic functions is beyond me. I can''t even ask, as there is also NO CUSTOMER SUPPORT WHATSOEVER.

Epson Ultra Premium Presentation Paper MATTE (S041339) Save 48% off

Epson Ultra Premium Presentation Paper MATTE
  • Ultra-premium white presentation paper with a matte finish.
  • Yields highly saturated images, while maintaining excellent highlight and shadow detail.
  • Instant drying capability with Epson Professional Inks allows for easy handling.
  • High color gamut yields remarkable color reproduction.

I recently picked up an Epson 3880 and have been experimenting with various Epson media. This paper is stiff enough to handle easily, give you something solid to mat, yet still multi-feed into the printer. The surface is brighter white than most of the watercolor paper I use for my ink drawings, and it creates a very nice print as a result. I don''t do photo work, so I cannot comment on that, but stepping up to the ultra premium was definitely worth the price difference for fine art reproductions. There is one small problem with all of the Epson papers I''ve received so far. The top left corner of every stack of paper has been very slightly crunched inside the box, and the boxes have been undamaged. Apparently, something in the loading or handling process at the factory causes the problem. I notified Epson, but never heard anything back. Since I am matting my prints, which covers this very small defect, it has not deterred me from using their papers, but if you''re doing a flush mount without any edge coverage, it may cause you a problem.

Great paper, significantly better than the "non-ultra" version if you ask me. The only things you might want to do with any large paper like this:

1) Don''t tighten the sheet feed guides too close to the paper (like I did once). I''d leave 1/8th of an inch between the left side feeder guide and the edge of the paper. If the paper gets bent inward because the width between the guides is too narrow (easier to happen with large paper), it can cause it to misfeed in such a way that the print head can scrape the paper, potentially causing costly print head damage.

2) In addition to setting the paper type (in the print settings) to this exact brand/type of paper, you may want to set "platen gap" to "wide" just to be sure. You shouldn''t really need the "wide" setting if you set the paper type properly (as the printer/driver should set the proper gap for the paper you set) but it might not be a bad idea anyway just to be safe.

And to avoid waste, it''s never a bad idea to do a nozzle check on the blank side of some clean and unwrinkled scrap office paper (if not new office paper) before you print on anything large or otherwise expensive.

Seems, perhaps production problems, that the paper has crumpled corners.

We had read about that before, but still ordered the product, thinking

it must be a temporary event.

We''ve kept the paper anyway, as it is minor, unless you have to print

out to the edge. Just be aware that it doesn''t seem to be a shipping

problem, its a packaging problem.
