When they say something is too good to be true, it''s true!

This printer has great specs. and great features, and it''s brand new. But there''s only one little problem: it consumes ink like a drunk at a cocktail party.

We''re not just talking a weekend binge either, we''re talking something along the lines of only 40 copies per 4-cartridge ink pack. I''ve printed nothing but web pages-no photos at all-and some of them are draft; about 30 in total.

Despite this, the blue and yellow cartridges are 75% empty, the magenta is heading there as well, and the black is at 50%.

This is unacceptable, and I suspect Epson is aware of the problem. These new inks are highly volatile and they dry fast, but that means they''re testy in the cartridge as well. After a week of limited use, there has been a precipitous drop in the ink levels.

Epson already has out a "high-capacity" black replacement cartridge, which I suspect SOON will be the standard and only one for this printer. No doubt they will also upgrade the color ink capacity as well.

Until then--you''ve been warned! The few people who have been using this printer so far are all in agreement: there''s something wrong here. So let them fix it first.

I bought the Epson CX5000 to replace my CX4600 which after two years of heavy use finally gave up the ghost. I used it mostly for documents but printed many high quality prints on photo paper as well. I''m pleased with the print quality of the new machine, but I thought something was wrong when my ink levels dropped more than 30% after only a week of limited use! I wondered whether the supplied cartridges were not completely full out of the box. Anyway I''ve seen that I''m not the only one with this issue, so I am putting my own two cents worth in. I hope Epson does something about the ink cartridge capacities so I''m not worried about frequent replacement. In the meantime I am not that happy because I have to be more conservative with my printing needs. Higher capacity cartridges won''t solve the ink consumption issue, but at least I won''t be hitting the store as much. Overall this all-in-one machine does it''s job well, let''s hope Epson upgrades its cartridges.

I bought this printer, copier, scanner because I needed a new printer for college. I also thought the copier would come in handy. Unfortunately, I did not know this printer would run out of ink so fast! I print out lecture notes, which are approximately 5-20 pages twice a week, and my black ink was replaced a few times already within 3 months. I tried buying non-genuine EPSON ink to save money costs (since each genuine one costs about $10 for the color and $20 for black ~ $50-60 for a set), but unfortunately they are not compatable with the printer because of some chip on the ink. And on top of that, EPSON says that the warrenty does not cover damages caused by the imitation ink. Right now my printer is stuck thinking that there is no cyan ink even though i put in genuine EPSON ones!

On the upside, EPSON does print beautiful pictures when it doesn''t have ink problems.

To save you of a lot of trouble though, i''d suggest another printer because if you''re not looking for a photograph printer, it''s not worth it.

Want Epson Stylus Color CX5000 All In One Printer, copier, scanner Discount?

I''m an avid fan of Epson printers, and have always had better luck with them than with any other brand. However, I bought the CX5000 All In One, and am a bit disappointed. Yes, like most people here are saying, it DOES suck up the ink. I generally only print a few text pages per month, and it drinks the ink faster than any other Epson model I''ve ever owned. Especially the cartridge set that comes with the printer. Prepare yourself for them to go VERY quickly. I swear I printed maybe 20 text sheets before they ran dry!!!!

I don''t have a huge problem with the speed, and the scanner works very well. Nice resolution, and nice print quality... when you can get the darn thing to print! Which brings me to my next issue with this machine. About every other day (sometimes every day) for the last week the ink light comes on and a warning window pops up telling me I need to buy Epson ink, although the ink monitor is showing my cartridges as more than half full. It refuses to print when this happens. I''ve had to uninstall & reinstall the software twice since buying it only a few months ago, as it sometimes just decides not to work and nothing else will cure it. I have the most current driver, so that''s not the problem. Sometimes if I turn it off & back on a few times it''ll print just fine, and other times I simply have to give up trying for as much as a full day, because the ink light/warning won''t clear. The CX5000 is really not living up to my expectations of an Epson machine! Buy it only if you need something temporary, and can afford to dump it for a better model in a few months!

We bought this printer 2 weeks ago. We might have printed 30 pages at most. And so far, had to replace all 4 cartridges. To make life more difficult, as soon as one of the colours runs dry, the printer refuses to print. Not only that, but the printing speed for pages is woefully slow much slower than my old HP photosmart, which is a big issue since we print more text than pictures. And to cap it all off, printing in draft output produces type so faint it''s virtually unreadable. I have nothing good to say about the printing qualities of this printer so far...
