First time 1099 filer, long time tax payer.

The software is easy to use and has pretty good help. I found that the printer alignment works on some forms but not on the 1096 form for some reason. I did many test prints and the alignment never changed. Luckily it wasn''t off that far so I just went with the slight mis-alignment.

The form pages do not match the offical IRS form. Maybe I got a bad kit but for an amateur filer I want things to match up. The form I got from the IRS which seemed to require me to use a dot matrix printer had these pages:

Copy A, Copy 1, Copy B, Copy 2 & Copy C

The Adams form set has these pages:

Copy A, Copy B, Copy 2, Copy C #twice quantity#

Copy C is labeled ''For Payer or State Copy''. The missing form ''Copy 1'' in the offical IRS form is labeled ''For State Tax Department''.

I hate assuming anything when dealing with the IRS so I''m hoping that I get it right.

My wife does bookkeeping for a small organization and in the past, sending out 1099s has been a real pain. This year we decided to see if we could use QuickBooks to write the 1099s to these forms. It was AWESOME! Even with our very old QuickBooks, the 1099s came out looking perfect, with none of the errors that can creep in from typing. The self-seal envelopes were terrific, too. It was just a very simple process this year, and the mailing looks very professional. I''m sure that lots of other forms here are good, too, but with the self-sealing envelopes, the price and the software (for people without QuickBooks), this was a winner for us.

I did the forms in less than an hour. It is much cheaper than paying my tax man to do it. I don''t like that you can only do it for one year, so I wasted a lot of forms this year. But that is not their fault, but the IRS. You think they could develop a reusable form for a longer time period.
