Epson U03ii Usb Interface Card Save 16% off

Epson U03ii Usb Interface Card
  • UB-U03II USB INTERFACE CARD NO DM NO HUB

This card took an working Epson TM-U220B with a Parallel Printer cable connection and allowed it to be upgraded to USB cable. Installation was easy and straight forward, only one screw. Much better than replacing that unit with something that would have cost over $300. Only difficulty was finding out what part number to order, but a call to Epson finally struck gold.

Great quality, was glad to find name brand ribbon for sale inexpensively. I tried the many generics and they just don''t last as long.

We needed this product for the cash register at work and it is exactly what we needed. The black ribbon is dark and comes out clearly. We were weary of buying the ink online because we did not know if it would fit the register exactly but it turns out the purchase was spot on. We couldn''t order it with the company because they did not have it in stock but we are glad that we found it on Amazon and were able to purchase it at a good price.

  • Automatic 2-sided printing; 1-year onsite warranty

I can''t say what occurred with the previous reviewer. My guess

is he was referring to the 2200 (a much slower color printer)

or was driving the 3100 via a parallel cable.

I got the printer today and have printed just about everything

in sight, including 8.5x11 inch pictures (1536x2048x16 million

color digital camera images) in regular and fine quality mode.

Certainly it takes the printer longer to print these images,

but thats 15 seconds verses instantaineous. Note that I use

a 100bps ethernet to drive it.

The image quality looks great to me. I picked this printer

because if you add duplexing and a 500 sheet tray to their

lower end printer(the 2200), both options I need, you get

approximately the same total price as well as a printer that

is MUCH slower in color, has a fraction of the CPU speed and

does not do Postscript 3.

The 3100 DN is a win, and gives both a better price and smaller

size than the equivalent HP printer. The other printers in this

class all seemed to have 500 sheets, duplexing or networking

as various options.

Again I would ask the first reviewer to check if he has the

right printer and retract that if not. This printer does not

deserve that writeup at all.

1/2003 postscript:

Have been using this printer for 2 weeks now. This printer has

several features that are apparent only after examining the

unit, and deserve mention. First, it is very quick to come

online from a full energy save mode, about 1 minute. Second,

you can get full status on the printer by accessing the

built in web server (mentioned nowhere I could find in the

documentation), which gives an amazing number of statistics

on the printer, including bar graphs telling you how much

toner remains in each of the colors, how much life (in pages)

are left on each printer component, etc.

Finally, each of the parts that wear out in the printer, the

toner, transfer unit, imaging unit, fuser and feed roller are

user servicable units that can be simply unlatched and

replaced.

The local store discontinued this unit, but is still selling

a certain major brand name printer that is both more expensive

(if you include the same options), larger and, IMHO, uglier

than this printer.

After 3 weeks with helpful Minolta tech support staff I have discovered that it is normal and OK for this printer to take 12 minutes to print one 8'' x 8'' regular photograph at 300 dpi at the printer''s lowest resolution. That is way too long to be practical in a business environment. I regret the purchase.

HP 17BII Financial Calculator

HP 17BII Financial Calculator
  • Over 250 built-in functions
  • Algebraic notation
  • Reverse Polish notation
  • Business/finance features
  • 2-line, 22-character LCD

One of the best features of this calculator is that the calculations (i.e. present value/future value calculations and basic mortgage payment calculations)are menu driven using a series of buttons at the top of the calculator. You simply input the data per the associated input button. In addition, this calculator is a lot easier to use than the 12B which is the standard in the leasing industry. The 17B version allows you to input your data in a straight forward fashion rather than the "reverse" data input method of the 12C. HP also did a good job with the instructional booklet you receive with the calculator. The booklet gives you numerous sample problems and does a good job of highlighting the capabilities of the calculator in an easy to understand format without all the technical jargon. I wouldn''t be without this calculator.

Look no further. The classic HP workhorse is a legend for good reason. This is the best financial calculator available. It is durable, easy to use, and highly versatile. Many HP calc lovers prefer the 12C to this because of size. Fair enough, but if you don''t have the time or care to learn RPN then the 17BII is your ticket as it allows either RPN or algabraic entry.

The programmable solver is an awesome tool as it saves a ton of time for calcs outside of the 250 preprogrammed. Also, the feel of the push button keys are superior to other brands. There is no doubt an entry took place. Excellent battery life. Sure it is a little pricey compared to other financial calculators but you will never need another. This baby is built like a ''56 Buick and will probably outlast you. If you are searching for a financial calculator then you understand the importance of value over low cost. This is the one.

If you are a business student or finance professional, the HP 17BII is the financial calculator to purchase. It provides the necessary functionality (e.g. solves the appropriate kinds of time value of money & IRR problems, provides memory, etc.), but what I really find useful is "intuitive" data entry in solving these problems relative to the HP 12C (which I also own). For Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) candidates, it is also the "top-of-the-line" HP model since the more advanced versions are programmable, which is disallowed by the AIMR during testing.

I have used the HP17BII for about 6 years now. I also own a 19B. I really like the 17BII for all of its functionality. It got me thru undergrad (Wayne State U in Detroit) and grad school and became the recommended calculator at my school (Clark Atlanta U) for all grad and undergrad students. Unlike some of the lesser priced machines, the 17BII will still be functional when you are in the work force doing a complex Black-Scholes calculation. I really believe that it is the absolute best financial calculator out there followed by the 19B, 10B, 12C and then the BAII plus.

Canon PIXMA MP490 Inkjet Photo All-In-One Printer (3745B002)

Canon PIXMA MP490 Inkjet Photo All-In-One Printer
  • Use the new Auto Photo Fix II feature to automatically adjust and correct your photos
  • The ChromaLife100+1 system gives you beautiful and long-lasting photos
  • Collect, combine and edit multiple web pages to print your own layout using Easy-WebPrint EX
  • Features pigment black ink for crisp, sharp text

This is the third Canon Pixma printer we have owned. The first two were blown out by power surges (we have extraordinarily unreliable and variable power in the islands).

The first Pixma printer we bought is something of a legend for it''s inexpensive cartridges which could be purchased retail (OEM) for less than $10 apiece. When we bought that, we already had several other printers in the house, at least 1 unused. The issue we had with each of the others (a Dell, an HP and an Epson) was that the printer cartridges cost as much as, or more than, the printer itself. If you already have a printer, you know that the manufacturers are using the Gillette razor model; pricing the printers low, and gauging on the ink. The cost for a replacement cartridge for my HP laser was around $200, the Epson, around $100, and the Dell (which came free with the computer) cost over $100. Since this is a home printer we cared less about print quality, and more aboiut reasonable operating cost. i have not yet printed any photos and so can not comment on print quality in that regard, though Canon claims it is a high point.

I will say that the print quality on our first 2 Pixmas was somewhat less than ideal. I was able to remedy that by printing on high (photo quality). On our new printer, the MP 490, the print quality is better, BUT, unfortunately the cartridges cost more. They still cost at least 1/3 less than those for comparable printers, but are not as reasonable as on prior models. This is what took a star off in my rating.

In terms of features and ease of use:

this printer fixes an annoying issue we had with the other 2 pixmas. the cartridges are easier to change. You no longer have to hold the door up or have it hover at an awkward angle.

My kids like the digital read out, and, I will note for those new to the line; Canon printers keep track of ink use. The software logs cartridge changes and lets you know when you are running low on either (black or multi-color) ink. Often this is a bit off. that is, you can get a few more prints after it tells you it is out. This is a nice feature. I have had the experience of running out of ink while printing a 100 page document on my HP, only finding out that half the pages came up blank after the entire document ran.

On wimdows machines, set up is very easy: plug & play. It will work without loading extra printer drivers. I can not comment on this with regard to macs, since w do not have one.

You can switch to scan or print with the touch of a button. Both of these functions work flawlessly.

The other feature this machine offers over our old pixmas is a card reader. You can take a card out of your camera and print direct from the machine without going through a computer. (Most of the newer printers offer this feature, so this will set it apart in comparison to last gen. printers, rather than other brands).

It also has a very small footprint; not much larger than is required for a letter size scanner. It is not as small as a portable, but very compact for a desk top printer.

All in all it is a VERY nice printer for the money. We got it for an insanely low price during Amazon''s ''black friday week" sale. Even at full retail it costs roughly the same or less than comparable printers. The primary reason we bought this was for the lower price ink cartridges. In that regard, the saving are not quite what they were on older models of the Pixma, but are still less costly than for other brands. We have owned Pixma printers for more than 10 years now and have been very happy with them overall, or I would not have purchased a third.

Update:

After 6 months of usi9ng this printer I needed to replace the ink. (note: this printer is attached to my childrens'' machine and hence does not get as much use as mu own). i am now substantially less happy with the printer and probably would not buy another. If I were writing the review now, I''d give it 3 instead of 4 stars. Why?

1) Replacing the ink cost more than the printer.

2) When the black ink ran out we were unable to use the printer evewn though there was still ink in the color cartridge.

While the ink may cost less than some it should not cost as much as the printer!

Canon has been advertising that they were the solution to overpriced ink. Instead, it seems, they''ve decided that this is a pretty good way to make money.

This is Way far from the perfect printer.

I''m now shopping for another OLD Canon for my kids. My old Canon is still running on $10 cartridges (less if I use generic!)

I do not want to buy ink which costs as much as a new printer every 6 months! I hope Canon hears this. they have just lost a heretofore loyal customer.

UPDATE: This multi function printer will not scan if the ink catridges are low or empty!

I just bought this printer and I LOVE it. It''s the perfect all in one printer for home/ small office use. I am a student and wanted an all in one so i could print, copy and scan documents without the stress of using the school''s facilities every time. This printer is exactly what I needed. The print quality is superb. Even photos printed with this printer come out looking just as good as lab quality photos. The colours are vibrant and rich and borderless printing is excellent. Photocopying and scanning quality is really good too. However, printing speed is not the fastest but it doesn''t detract from the beauty of this machine. The printer itself has a small footprint and I love the way everything folds into one compact design and eliminates dust getting trapped inside the printer. Overall, this is a great printer for the price. Note that a usb cord is not included in the package.

I''m using the Canon MP490 at home with a Mac Book Pro Intel Core Duo OSX 10.5.8. I found the set up very straightforward and encountered no problems. As mentioned in another review, the USB cord is not included. Print quality/tone was very good for both photos and plain documents. Color ran a bit to the green end. Scanning and copying were also uncomplicated. Inserting the SD card from my digital camera into the printer immediately brought up the image on the LCD screen, ready to print. iPhoto also started up automatically on my laptop, ready to import the images from the SD card in the printer-very slick. Controls were fairly intuitive as was the menu on the compass control. Print speed was on the slow side, so if your needs require high volume printing, this is probably not the right printer for you. The included software loaded easily and works fairly well. Ink costs are high for OEM replacement cartridge. There are ink refill kits on the web for this model to reduce costs considerably-I have no experience refilling these particular cartridges, but have found it to be very economical in my other Canon and HP printers. I have had the printer for only three days so I cannot speak to its long-term dependability. My initial impression is that the MP490 is an inexpensive, very good quality printer with easy set-up and helpful software. It is ideal for low-volume home use.

Addendum 10/3/2010about two months ago I began having problems with the printer shutting down during long (more than 3 or 4 page) jobs. This happens intermittently, but is quite annoying when it does-you have to re-print the whole job. Refilling the ink cartridges is fairly simple initially, but failed to work after 2 or 3 fills. I would no longer recommend this printer.

I bought this printer without reading a single review or even looking it up. I walked into Target and read the box and purchased it. I usually read the reviews and wait for people to explain what''s wrong with something before I buy it so this was totally unlike me. I was very pleasantly surprised! I love this! I''ve owned a big Pixma Pro 9000 for a while now but I refused to give up my little HP all in one that I''ve loved for years but it crapped out and I decided to try the Canon all in one since I loved the pro9000 so much. After trying this thing out, HP lost a customer. I''d always loved their printers but the software never worked right. Not only is the Canon printer better but the software didn''t jam my computer. (Yes I tried the HP software on a Dell, and HP, and an E-Machines computer, it''s crap!) I did purchase a separate scanner to scan slides since I bought the printer so I gave to to my mom and am looking for just a photo printer now but I''m looking into Canon. My mom is loving this printer too, and she''s not easy to please when it comes to printers. All in all, if you want an all-in-one, this one is worth a shot!!

This is a perfect replacement for our small printer which wore out. Considering how many tasks it performs, the small size is surprising. We have been using it for a couple weeks and are very happy with it. We have not used the fax and probably won''t.

Prior to the purchase of Kodak''s Ultra Premium Photo Paper, I had always used Kodak''s Premium Photo Paper. I was very happy with the quality of the Premium paper, so I thought the Ultra would be that much better. Wrong. I have tried printing several different images that were taken in different settings (flash, no flash, etc), and the quality of all the images came out poor using the Ultra paper. The images were much darker and almost muted. I plan to go back to the Premium paper.

Honestly, I don''t understand why today anyone would pay a kinkos or photo store to print photos. I''ve been using this photo paper with a Kodak printer and the photos look absolutely fantasic. Only thing to keep in mind is that the photos are 8.5 X 11, but most frames come in 8 by 11. So you might want to search for frames online, or just trim the photo. Personally I like the slightly larger photo.

We go to lots of family gatherings and have printed lots of pictures from them. We have used other paper, but had to wait around for them to dry, etc. With this paper there is no need, as when it comes out of the printer, well its dry and ready for showing. It may cost more, but the price is worth it for great quality prints...

Unfortunately it is of such high quality that there are times it gets caught in the printer. It is just a little too thick but when it works the pictures are beautiful.

Best paper I have ever used. I have tried others and I always return to the ultra. I feel I have wasted my money when I try lower quality.

I bought this printer from Best Buy in January. I needed to replace the Lexmark All in One printer that I had, which was really terrible. Stay away from Lexmark! Anyway, when I got it home and tried to setup the wireless connection with my laptop(which I had gotten only a few weeks before) I had a lot of difficulty. I think that this is entirely due to the fact that I''m running Windows 7 and it was set to do that. I downloaded the correct driver for the printer for my version of windows. I could get it to print wirelessly once, then I tried to have it scan something wirelessly for me. That worked well, but then when I went back to print something again, it wouldn''t work. I couldn''t figure out what was wrong with it. I dealt with customer service and they weren''t a lot of help. Eventually, I was looking at some options in the print dialogue box and clicked on something there and it solved the whole problem. So if you have a problem printing wirelessly with these Canon printers, make sure to check all of your print settings. If it hadn''t been for this one seriously annoying problem, I would give it five stars. It has been super reliable and the paper tray is underneath, which is great since we have kids. Also, the output tray closes so that the printer entirely closes up into a cube(also great because of the kids). When you want to print, it automatically opens up! So wonderful!

Replacing the ink in this printer costs about $75 every time you replace it. We only paid $100 for it. Now we''re getting an error message B200 and I can''t print or scan. The manual says I need to have the printer serviced. Very disappointed in this product.

I purchased this printer after doing very little research. I went to best buy knowing I wanted to purchase a multi function wireless printer. This was on sale at the time so I looked at the specs and realized that since I don''t do a ton of printing and I just needed to print occasionally that this item would be perfect. So far I have not regret my purchase at all. I am very happy with this product especially considering the price. Canon products never seem to let me down.

We have had this printer for over 2 years and it eats through color cartridges even though we are not printing in color. Every 2 months I have to replace the color cartridges in order to print about 20 pages in black. Looking for a replacement now.

This is the worst printer I have ever had. Whenever you want to print anything it takes about two minutes to "warm up" and it does this every time you push the print button. I rarely print anything in color but it goes through the color cartridges as fast as the double sized black cartridge. Interesting even when set on gray-scale it still eats up the color cartridges. This is another scam by the printer companies to sell a relatively cheap printer and make tons of money on the cartridges.
