I bought the MF5750 because of the features, price, and my excellent experience with other Cannon products in the past (2 camcorders, a G2 camera, and an F-80 multifunction inkjet that has given flawless service in my home office with very active use). The MF5750 is ok overall, except since I got it the print has been blurry and smudged at the top of about half the pages I print. You can read the pages, but the print quality is not good enough for professional correspondence. I called Cannon customer service within a few weeks of purchase looking for help. They offered to replace the unit with a refurbrished model (!!) or direct me to a repair facility (!!). I suppose every once in a while Cannon might make a defective product but when it doesn''t work correctly right out of the box I don''t expect a refurbrished unit in return, or to wait for repairs. Instead, I am sending it back to the vendor to exchange for a new unit hopefully I''ll have better luck with this one.

Other than the print quality, the unit seems pretty good the print speed is fast. The multifunction feed for envelopes etc. is a bit finnicky but after you get the hang of it, it works ok. Also, Cannon advises that the printer cable must be under 2 meters, and some USB hubs don''t work. The 15'' USB active cable/hub I tried worked once or twice but after that no go.

I have not tried other multi-function lasers so I really don''t have anything to it compare to.

UPDATE:

I got a new MF5750 replacing the defective unit mentioned in my previous review, and wanted to provide this update after one week of use (about 100 pages printed, a couple copies no faxing).

The print quality problems on the previous unit are solved I would say print quality is 100% fine for professional correspondence. I have not done much grayscale printing. There is slight curling of the paper even using the strait-thru paper path. The printing is quite fast nice for larger documents.

I made a few copies and they are very good. If you look VERY carefully you can see the text is slightly lighter than the original without any adjustments on the MF 5750.

As with the previous unit, the alternate paper feed is a little tricky you need to get the feeder to grab the paper and then print from the PC. If it doesn''t grab correctly the paper doesn''t feed, and the printer jam alarm goes off even though there is no paper jam. You can open the panels/trays but it doesn''t clear the alarm. You need to unplug the machine (yes, that is how the manual instructs you to turn off the alarm). I guess I will either get the hang of it or maybe it will just be easier to use the normal paper tray.

On the USB cable I tried another USB 2.0 extension/hub without any luck. To locate this where I want (about 15 feet from the PC) I may resort to hooking this up to a network because the printer comes with a USB cable about only 4'' long and they say 2 meters is the longest USB cable you should use.

I called Canon tech support with an installation question and they were quite good.

I really like the functionality of this particular all in one, but there are two major flaws that make it one of the most annoying pieces of equipment in my office.

The Special Paper feeder is the first. You have a base tray that will hold your standard paper, and a slot on the front for specialty paper like envelopes, checks, etc. The catch here is that you have to feed each sheet of specialty stock in one at a time, and if you put the next sheet in too early it causes a jam and the printer fails.

Number 2 on the list of annoying features is where your printed material lays after completion. If you are printing a 20 or 30 page document you better be standing right next to the printer. The completed job tray is horrible. After only a few pages are printed the pages begin to push each other out of the tray, so as each additional page comes out of the printer another is pushed out of the tray onto the floor, causing you to have to reorganize the document. This is a huge pain if the pages aren''t numbered.

The fax, and scan features work great, and the quality is good.

The menu system on the unit could use some help but around the time you start to get frustrated with it you get it to do what you want.

All in all I wouldn''t purchase it again, HP has a little more thought into their designs, and specifically into paper feeding and completed job trays.

I''m in my 5th month with this now. I have printed probably around 1000-1500 pieces of paper, about 800 mailing labels, faxed a couple of hundred pages, and done a little photocopying. This machine has been very reliable all the way.

I am amazed that through all the faxing (always using the auto feeder), I have not had a single piece of paper jam when auto feeding. I would say unexpectedly good.

It took a few tries to confirm, but I was happy that you can dial a fax, let it (auto feed) scan through, and immediately dial the next number and scan the next thing to fax. It saves the image and corresponding fax number in memory until the phone line is free. I have had several things in line at once this way. If one fax is busy, it will put it in memory and send the next one. Then try again for the first one. The owner''s manual did not spell out that it could accomplish this, but it will.

I wasn''t sure how much it could print at once without needing to stop to cool down or stop accepting jobs to clear the memory. 75 pages is about the largest thing I have tried to print. It did this without any hesitation...

The only difficulty I have had in 5 months is one paper jam. It was after printing some mailing labels on discount-brand mailing label stock. I then used a more reputable brand of mailing labels and have had no problem since, so I think it was more a symptom of putting low quality medium into it.

I did have to work with it a few times to get the hang of the manual feed for letter addressing, but I figure that would be the same for any printer. After I got it down, the output looks great!

I really like this machine, and when it someday wears out I hope they are still making it so I can buy another one.

I bought the Canon MF5750 after researching multifunction laser printers with flatbed scanners. I had previously used a Brother but did not like having the toner separate from the drum unit. I brought the unit home, set it up, and proceded to find that the paper tray/path did not feed the paper correctly. Every sheet came out with a "dog-ear" on one corner. Tried everything to get this to work, but to no avail. I like the features of this machine and everything else seemed to work. The paper tray just seems to be a bit flimsy and not well designed or built (it comes in two pieces when shipped that you have to snap together and is all plastic). I took this machine back and exchanged it for a Brother MFC-7820N. I''m very happy with the Brother, which seems better built than the Canon (more heavy duty metal reinforced paper tray that''s all one piece) and works flawlessly. The Brother is also smaller, lighter, and less expensive. I think the Canon has the potential to be a nice printer, but take extra care with the paper tray, which can be easily damaged.

I know it''s difficult to imagine and probably a slight exageration but quite frankly I have never really seen a piece of office equipment with such a non-intuitive usability design.

*To delete a simple job takes at least 3 to 4 button pushes.

*Not very friendly to using different sizes of paper especially if you use MORE THANE 1 SHEET! It''s an office! Canon come on...

*Even if you think you know how to delete a simple print job, don''t bother using buttons that say CLEAR or STOP those are there just to tease. No the actual buttons say things like SET and STATUS MONITOR. After 20 times of doing that, it may become something you remember...

* There''s NO reset button. You have to actually unplug it!

* There''s NO off button. So your scan lamp basically stays on all the time...

* The Cable and Plug wire are designed to hang down the back of the machine UNFORTUNATELY, if you use Legal size paper, your cable and plug wire are pushing up against your paper tray all the time because the Cable and Plug are above it. Really doesn''t make any sense for an OFFICE MACHINE!!!

It does function basically o.k. once you figure it out, but I stand by the title Least Intuitive thing I''ve ever used. I do also concur with most of the other review items but the one gave it 5 stars...

I wanted to buy a All-in-One printer for my personal home use. I have done extensive reaserch for an All-in-One mono laser printers, in no time I realized that toner and drum prices are exorbitant and gave up that idea and started looking for All-in-One inkjet printer. I was very inclined to buy HP Photo Smart 2610 printer because of HP''s reputation for quality. At BJ''s, I compared the size and price of MFC-210 and HP2610, what a difference.... HP2610 is double in size and triple in price. I went with MFC-210C and have been using print, copy, fax for last one week and so far no complaints.

Pros:

1. Ultra Compact

2. Inexpensive (printer as well as ink catridges)

3. Reasonably fast print, copy and scan (20 pages per minute)

4. Dirvers for most of the windows O/S

5. Easy set up

6. Individual ink catridges(1 black and 3 color)

7. Fax and Copy without a PC

8. Directly reads digital memory cards for picture printing

Cons:

1. No automatic feeder for FAX and speed is only 14.4 Kbps if you don''t do lot of faxing then speed should not matter.

2. Print Quality is not as good as HP for home use I can live with that quality.

3. No USB cable I had to buy 3 Pk USB cables for $7.95 at BJ''s

4. User manual talks (75%) on how to send and receive fax I think Brother is still in FAX era.

5. No networking it is too much to ask from a $63.00 printer

I got this today and I''m returning it tomorrow. The printer part is fine, but I do a lot of scanning and I am dumbfounded by what I discovered with this aspect of the machine. First off, when scanning you don''t get a preview, you have no option of controlling the size of the scan, or the HSL or any other color/brightness control, nor can you control the dpi. You push the scan button and it scans the whole bed. If your object is smaller than the bed size, too bad. If you want something at 72 dpi (which is all any monitor can "see" so all you use for the web), too bad. If the colors aren''t good, too bad. If there''s a glare off of something you''re scanning, too bad. No options are available. The files end up being large as they''re the size of the bed and at 300dpi (the default).

When I first tried scanning and didn''t get a preview window or any controls, I picked up the manual to figure out what was going wrong. Guess what? no mention of scanning in the 200 page book. When I looked "scanning" up in the index, it told me to look on the cd. When I looked on the cd, nothing. I went to Brother''s site and downloaded a manual from there--only to read that you don''t get any options on any part of scanning!

For a machine at this price I was not expecting anything good, but I was wrong. All the features (Scan/Fax/Print/Copy/Photo reader) works better than I expected. The software for PC and Mac has very good quality too. I will buy Brother''s all-in-one product again in the future. It is a good machine for light use. I use it at least three times a week for fax and for daily printing and photocopy.

Just like what they said on the box, it is for home and home office use. It does not have auto paper feeder. It support overseas fax mode (which is good when fax via VoIP service such as AT&T Callvantage), but this cannot be as the default setting, so you need to set it up for every transmission.

The image scaling function works fine just like regular commercial photocopy machine.

*** The comments below is written after I use it for almost two years ***

This machine lasts more than one year so it passes the warranty, and then the printer functionality died after 18 months. During the 18 months of use, I constantly buy ink catridge for it because:

(1) The MFC-210C will purge the ink catridge almost every day to keep printer head flowing. You lose ink without printing anything.

(2) Among all four ink catridges, as long as one of them is low, the whole printer refuse to print. I can''t seem to find an option to print it in reduced quality, which is a good feature for all HP printers.

Because of the two ink reasons above, plus the printer head machanical failure, I decided to go back and get an HP printer after my happy two years with MFC-210C printer. Again, I like this printer because I get it for all nice features for only $79. Even now the printer/fax output is gone, I can still use it as a scanner.

Wow! Well designed and thought-out, this device does a great job copying, faxing, scanning and printing. Everything it''s *supposed* to do works very well. The LCD display *is* a tad hard to read, but a few minutes in the manual and you won''t need to look at it much, anyway. Brother out-did themselves with this product.

What I like most:

Individual ink carts: no more buying a new cart when you only need yellow, or blue -just replace whichever color you need. This is something you''d find on a high-priced pro model, not a low-end consumer like this.

"Safe'' plug: the printer cable is fed underneath the hood of the scanner unit, a very elegant and safe way to keep wires from getting bent or yanked out.

Very fast and quiet operation.

ASTOUNDING color copy quality. I''ve never seen pictures copied on a multi look this good on PLAIN PAPER. I''ve yet to try photo paper in this thing...

What I don''t like: just one thing, and that''s the scanner driver. It lacks some of the common controls and adjustments I prefer, but Brother should be releasing a beefed up controller fairly soon.

If you need a low cost, high quality and no-nonsense copier, fax, printer, scanner and picture card reader, you cannot beat the Brother MFC-210c.

I recently purchased the Brother MFC-210 and I love it! It was easy to hook-up and I had no problems with installing the hardware or the software! So far I have used the printer, scanner, copier and photo capture functions. The all work great!

The only thing that I can think of that is a problem is the amount of noise it makes. But I am not complaining. It is just something I have to get used to.(...)If you are looking for an inexpensive all-in-one, I say, look no further!

I order this roll paper for an HP 110 printer with a roll feed. I cut it to size (24" wide max) on a chop saw. The roll of paper acts like a log in regards to the saw (because paper rolls are essentially logs anyway). This way I get really good paper cheap.

I got this shipment within it''s estimated delivery date, and it is very easy to use and very convenient! I used this to label some of our bottles on the spice rack the letters are very clearly printed out (with the small font, you can actually print out two lines of text), and the entire process was very simple, I didn''t even need a manual to figure out how to do basic printing of labels (I don''t even remember if it has a small booklet for the manual). The label itself holds well.

The device is very compact, lightweight (like a kid''s toy), yet doesn''t look like it''s easy to break. It has a custom frame that you can change anytime you want, although I don''t really care about these colorful plates as much. Vendor should''ve included a refill label cartridge instead. :)

I recommend this product for those who just want a basic labeling tool with preprogrammed patterns for small art projects and such. This item doesn''t have too much to offer, but it works for a simple person with simple needs. I''m pretty pleased with it!

Update on battery life:

I''m actually on just my second set of batteries in the year I''ve had it, so overall, I am quite pleased. Per my original review, I use Sanyo Eneloop rechargeable NiMH batteries. After my first few weeks of label making, I would say I''ve been using it to print a few labels once every 2-3 weeks or so. Sometimes, it''s a little more frequent than that, but not often. The label maker STILL flashes the Low Battery! warning after every single label, but I always ignore it, press some button, and keep printing. Hasn''t failed me yet.

Quality of labels:

Still the same, typical label quality. Yes, there''s quite a bit of excess unused label that gets printed, but I suppose this is just a fact of label making. Not very efficient, and somewhat wasteful, but what can you do? I use the labels often for items in the refrigerator and freezer, and for this purpose, the print and the labels themselves have held up well, especially considering the cold temperatures. They''re easy to peel off when I''m finished, and leave no sticky residue.

Overall, it has been a reliable and useful purchase.

I bought this labeler a few weeks ago. I wouldn''t exactly call it the most compact thing I''ve ever held, but it functions well and has plenty of label options. Instructions were easy to understand, and I was printing my first labels within 5 minutes of unboxing it, even without really going through the instructions. I won''t go into too much more detail on the functions, since they are pretty standard.

About the infamous battery warning:

Some previous reviews have commented about this machine (and other similar P-touch models) being a total battery black hole. Here''s my experience:

Just ignore the Low Battery! warning and keep on printing.

I''m not even using traditional alkalines --I have 4 AAA rechargeable NiMH batteries in there. (Sanyo Eneloop brand -check them out! They are fantastic.) So far, I have printed at least 3 dozen labels, on and off, over the past few weeks. This includes printing 10 or so labels at a time, without turning the machine off in between and leaving it on for a few minutes between actual printing. I have to admit that it flashed Low Battery! at me after the VERY FIRST label. I just pressed a button and kept on going. It hasn''t shut off on its own or refused to print a label yet. Long story short, do not be discouraged by the warning. I can''t comment on performance with alkalines since I haven''t tried them, but at least with NiMH, it''s fine. The first set of batteries for me is still going strong. If you''re truly worried about battery life, consider investing in some rechargeable batteries. Newer "precharged" NiMH type batteries are not the old rechargeables of 20-30 years ago, work well, and are ready to go even after sitting in a box, unused, for a year.

So, that''s the scoop so far on the battery situation. Hope that''s helpful for anyone looking to take the plunge on one of these.

Pros: inexpensive gadget,works great, clean lines, not too big, takes 4 AAA batteries, has cool styles like shadows and bold, has cute symbos

Cons: expensive labeling refills, writing is very small, uses too much extra tape at the ends. labels very hard to unpeel unless you have long talons (nails)

I am a very organized person so I got this at Staples for $15 at staples (on sale) and so far it works great. I have been labeling like a madwoman since I got it. I have labeled all my electronics chargers, my pet food/misc. items, my tv/dvd cords, my plastic drawers, and my electronics so far and I haven''t even had this labeler for a day! My biggest complaint is that the writing is a big small unless you supersize it. It was pretty easy to figure out, but I did have to skim the manual first. I wouldn''t use this one for my business, but it''s great around the house.

As I said in the header, I''ll keep this small and simple, just like the product itself. It''s VERY affordable, and the instructions are super easy to follow and learn, including pictures showing the right way the cartridges go in, etc... Once it''s on, there are further instruction in the VAST variations that can be done on this, and they are also simple to learn and use. The cartridges last awhile, and the replacement cartridges are cheap and come in a huge variety of selections and colors. There are all sorts of different designs and styles that can be done to change up the labels, and there are even cases and faceplates that you can buy to customize your labeler, should you feel inclined. Personally, I was a little overwhelmed when I started shopping for label makers. There were sooo many, and a lot of them were expensive. I took a chance on this one because of price and great customer reviews, and I do not regret it. I use it regularly, and I love mine. I don''t think you''ll be disappointed.

First time ordering this paper, I was tired of the non-recycled papers at all my local office supply stores so I found this cute little company. The paper comes packaged in a plain paper wrapper, not a fancy package like the picture shows (it doesn''t matter to me but I though I should mention it). If you need a pure white, smooth paper then this is not the paper for you. It''s more for letters and documents rather than pictures since it is a light "natural" color and has a subtle texture to it (like the texture that some drawing paper has). At first it ran fine through my printer but I discovered that if I leave the paper in my upright tray the paper curls and then my printer has a lot of trouble feeding it. It has trouble grabbing just one sheet and when it does grab one it enters crooked. I''ve managed to mostly fix this by just keeping my stack of paper in my scanner bed with the lid closed to keep it flat. When I print I''ll take the paper out that I need and put it in the printer and it''ll grab it just fine. I''m not sure if this problem is more of a paper flaw or a printer flaw (I have an epson small-in-one). It seems like it''s more porous than regular printer paper, it sucks the ink right up but still looks crisp.

I really like this paper, it would be great if I can find it in stock near me but if not I plan to re-order when I run out.

Quality paper. Holds up much better then typical paper. Works fine in my printer, though I don''t do a lot of printing. I carry a list in my wallet of things I need to get done and this paper stands up to being folded and unfolded, at least three times better then regular printer paper -I have a list here that''s four months old, no place left to write and it does have dogged edges and some crease splits but it''s just tenaciously holding out. I''m sitting down here to print an update and of course one of the items on my list is feedback on this purchase. I don''t do a lot of printing, so I figured I could justify the cost. Can''t print without paper and I had to buy something -glad to have an option with hemp in it. Feels like it would be great for hand written letters too. I''ve read that hemp doesn''t yellow as quickly as wood paper. I''m happy with this. Positive experience.

I would have left five star feedback on my purchase, but I could not get the feedback to post for some reason. Shipping was fast. I emailed seller on the feedback issue and did get a response, seemed very human to deal with.

Great color, without that over the top over saturated color one gets with inkjets; waterproof, tear resistant...Only recommendation I would make is that you download the newest drivers from the Kodak website instead of using the enclosed CD, and that you send your images to the 1400 about 10% lesser density than you like on your screen, in order to get the best result.

Incredible prints, easy to set up and get printing, (if you have a fork lift ;) it is a bit heavy and its big), but the pictures you get from this printer can''t be beat. The only thing that I dont like, other than its heft and size, is that the cost per print is just a bit to high. But after I printed and saw my first 8x10 I had to give it 5 stars. If you want prints that last, look great and have a big desk, you will love this printer.

I''ve owned a few top of the line ink jets but this Kodak sub-dye printer is just plain awesome. If you need professional photos, this is the printer to get. It''s fast, quiet and produces a print that is smooth with a lot of color and contrast. Shadow detail is breath taking and it is also easy to use.

This printer replaced my old Epson 1270 and it is a much better printer for several reasons.

1. The Kodak prints are much more real looking and have way better shadow depth. The colors are great. Vibrant.

2. With the inkjet if I went a couple weeks without making any prints the heads would clog leaving a mess on the first print or two. Even with head cleaning I still had this problem. The Kodak NEVER has this issue.

3. The Kodak is much easier to control the color match as to what I see on the monitor. There is very little fussing around with color profiles, which was always an issue with the inkjet.

4. The fading problem with the inkjet was a real headache for me. The Kodak has a transparent layer over the top to resist fading and also repel water and finger prints.

5. I was always replacing the color cartridge on the Epson. It didnt hold enough ink for what they were charging in my opinion. With the Kodak, the expense per print seems to be less although I can not confirm this.

I now have a laser printer for documents and the Kodak 1400 for pictures. I dont ever plan on going back to the inkjet way of printing.

This is a very well made "professional" Photo Printer.

I''ve had this printer for about a year, having purchased it for $340 including a rebate that Kodak occasionally offers on the product. I use it with a G5 PPC Mac. Over the course of the year, Kodak has upgraded the firmware several times. One of the firmware upgrades left the printer unable to feed paper without manual assistance, but the latest upgrade solved that problem.

Let''s get one thing out of the way: there is no comparison between this and inkjet printers, at least not any that are even close to this price point. Low end inkjet printers produce flat-looking photos that often fade with light exposure. Inkjets often jam up with one color or another if you don''t print from them quite regularly. I use a laserprinter for my regular output, so my old inkjet was used only for photo output. If I went too long say a week or two I had to run several cleaning cycles, then hope for the best. These are not problems with the Kodak. Here, you get beautiful depth that rivals professional Kodak processed prints.

Yes, it''s heavy, it''s noisy, and it takes up a lot of space. All true. But the photos look like photos, not something your kid printed at school. Yes, the paper is expensive, but again you get what you pay for. The setup is straightforward, hookup via USB works without difficulty, and print time is very fast. It starts printing almost immediately after you hit the print button, so there''s very little processing time. In about a minute or so, you have your first page. The accompanying Kodak software works well, and iPhoto will also interface with the 1400 if that is your preference. I''m sure there are many other choices that I haven''t explored.

The 4 stars rather than 5 are not about photo quality but rather are the result of the occasional paper misfeed (which Kodak seems to have solved in firmware), the high cost relative to alternatives, and the noise.

Well, my printer just arrived today. Though it took a few days for the order to process, it only took 2-days to ship.

PROS:

This is a nice fairly compact laser printer. It''s easy to set up. Print quality is clear and has nice contrast. When I bought this printer it was only $69.99 with free shipping, but I see now in less than a week later it''s gone up to $89.99 + Shipping costs. For the price I paid I''d say this was a great deal.

CONS, but not a deal breaker:

I would''ve given it 5-stars except for a few points: 1) No USB cable included. It seems to be a fairly common practice with companies these days, but it''s annoying. These cables don''t cost that much (Belkin high speed USB for $4.95 on Amazon) but it''s an inconvenience to have to order it separately. And because they don''t cost much, how much is any electronics company saving vs. keeping their customers happy? 2) The printer is fairly noisy even in standby mode. However, it eventually goes into power save mode when not in use for long and that is completely noise-free. 3) Printing quality, though excellent, is not as good as my 10-year old Brother laser printer specifically when dealing with grayscale. These three points are things to consider, but I do believe they are only worthy of loss of 1-star.

This is a great printer for a small or home office that doesn''t require high-output printing.

After six years of faithful heavy-duty service, my beloved HL 1440 gave up the ghost, and I decided to replace it with the Brother HL 2220, which cost 2/3rds what I paid for the HL 1440 years ago.

Although the new machine is faster than the 1440, with more standard memory, it is smaller, lighter, and feels considerably less substantial.

Set up (OSX 10.4.11) was an absolute dream. In no more than five minutes I was up and printing. The set-up guide cautions to link directly to the computer, and not through a non-powered hub as I was doing, and on top of that my computer only accepts USB 1.0 and not 2.0. Yet the computer and the printer immediately recognized one another, and communication between the two is quick and responsive.

Print quality is outstanding, and although some folks have complained of the noise, I find mine to be very quiet. I do notice that envelopes come through with some wrinkles in the corner, and I''m going to try experimenting with different feed orientations to see if that helps.

Brother has decided to cheap out a bit on the 2220. Unlike the 1440, there is no visual indicator on the paper tray to indicate how much paper is left. Instead you are left with a top-mounted light that will come on once the paper tray is empty, but what good is that going to do you? How many pennies did Brother save by doing that?

I''ve never found a PDF file I couldn''t open, view, and print with Preview, but for some reason Brother''s instruction manual would only open properly in Adobe Reader.

PROS: Dirt cheap. Set-up is a breeze. Great print quality. Relatively quiet.

CONS: Feels insubstantial. Fussy documentation. Some wrinkles in business envelopes.

I don''t regret buying the HL 2220, but I''ve got a feeling I''m going to be missing my old HL 1440.

This is the third Brother monochrome laser printer I have owned. I was really happy with my first two and so when I needed a new printer, I bought the HL 2220 immediately. I wish I hadn''t. There are two serious problems with it. The first is that it is very noisy and it takes a long time (15 minutes or longer) to go into sleep mode. At this point, I simply turn the printer off when not actually printing. The second (and this is more serious) is that it generally does not print an entire document. Instead, it simply stops after a few pages and I have to hit the resume button. This is more than just an annoyance as it only prints part of a page in the first print job before resuming and printing out the document. Thus it wastes a considerable amount of paper. I updated the firmware from the Brother website but it did not help. Frankly, it is not that hard making a laser printer that actually works and I am disappointed that Brother did a poor job with this printer. It does, however, do a nice job of printing text as did all my other Brother printers. I''ll update this if I ever get the problem fixed.

This is a great printer with an even better price. I bought this printer after reading the reviews and figured I would just deal with the ''noise'' if it made any I will say 100% that I don''t know what the other reviewers are referring to. The printer makes a bit of noise when first turned on (assuming to warm up the toner or something) but after maybe 10-20 seconds it quiets down and doesn''t make a peep. I did how ever upgrade the firmware, but it wasn''t making any noise prior to this either. It definitely is much quieter than the HP ink jet that shakes the entire desk when printing now that''s annoying! I would definitely recommend this printer, and would most certainly buy another one especially for simple prints that don''t require color.

Brother also supplies Linux printer drivers for this model as well, available from their website.

Very simple to setup, I didn''t use the drivers that came with it either, I just plugged it in and let Windows (7) download and install everything it needed. I was printing the test page with in 5 minutes of opening the box if that, and wasn''t in a hurry.

I have an Epson 890 printer which I bought for printing digital photos at home. It has a roll attachment and an excellent reputation. I did reviews twice on this printer. It was this printer I used to print with this paper.

EARLIER EXPERIENCES WITH KODAK PAPER WERE NOT GOOD.

I had tried Kodak paper early on with this printer and the results were horrible. So I opted to go with only Epson paper and am quite pleased with the results. However, it needs to be noted, that the Epson printer is optimized for Epson paper and this is not too surprising. Most printer manufacturers make their money on the "consumables" versus the printers themselves, so this is their primary focus. Consumables being ink and paper. Only their paper and ink will give you the best results, if it is up to them.

However, if you want to buy paper locally, all you find here (in Rochester NY) is Kodak paper and HP at the grocery stores. I felt it was a pity, I could not opt for an easier to buy paper.

The Kodak paper advertized on the package that it works on all injet printers and mentioned some software I could download to optimize my printer to do this. So I said: Why not give it a shot? I can return it if I''m not satified with the results.

I went to their website and downloaded their software: There were 3 pieces. The Kodak picture transfer software, to use with the latest Kodak cameras and docks, the Kodak picture software for picture manipulation and then the specialized printer optimizing software: "One touch printing software". This one touch printing software is done by printer type, so it is customized for what you need. It actually had a selection for the Epson 890. I would imagine you can pair the Kodak picture software and the printing software with any other camera''s transfer software.

I ran an 8 X 10 picture on first the Epson paper with the Epson drivers and then the same picture minutes later, on the Kodak paper with the One touch printing selection on, in the Kodak picture software. What can I say but Wow! My previous complaint about Kodak paper in my printer was more than resolved. The photo it printed was crisp, clear and had more "true-to-life" colors than the Espon picture did. I really thought the Epson paper was top notch until I saw this.

LONGER LIFE:

One thing I did hear, and this may be advertizing claims only, is that the Kodak paper has a longer shelf life than the Epson paper. I know one of the concerns with ink jet paper in general is a fading problem and a shorter shelf life than conventional photographs. What better than to go to the company that has done this for years with regular pictures.

So now, I have to eat my words from earlier Epson printer reviews. I have added a P.S. to them. You can not only use Epson paper with an Epson printer, but you can use Kodak too and possibly with better results. Try it yourself like I did. Now I can buy some of the the cool options I see out there locally too.

I am a card maker and so I ordered this card stock with card making in mind. Unfortunately amazon.com doesn''t offer an actual image of the card stock, so I bought it sight unseen. About half of the marble/parchment colors will work for my card making and about half are too blotchy for card making. This card stock would work really well for creative craft projects but not for cards with a professional finish.
