Sony Picture Station DPP-FP50 Digital Photo Printer

Sony Picture Station DPP-FP50 Digital Photo Printer
  • High-speed, portable dye-sublimation photo printing
  • Borderless 4-by-6 and 3.5-by-5-inch prints in about 1 minute
  • Built-in LCD preview panel; compact, lightweight design
  • USB, PictBridge, memory card ports; prints with or without a computer
  • SuperCoat 2 protective lamination; rich, long lasting colors

This printer is wonderful and the picture quality is superb and they are so clear. I have a Cybershot T-1 camera and the combination is nice. The printer speed was quick too! I couldn''t believe how easy it was to connect the printer to the TV and view the pictures that I had stored on my camera and edit the pictures using a remote control. I would recommend this printer because of the easy setup, quick printing speed, and excellent quality of the pictures.

The reason I love this printer is because of its ease of use, and that''s due to it''s number one feature TV output. I''ve had a tendency in the past to neglect photo printing because once I get our pictures onto my computer, I want to fiddle with them endlessly to "improve" them before I print them out. In the end I never do get around to it. Now we''ll come home from a day of photo shooting, look at our pics on the TV and print out the good ones then I can touch up the photos that need it at my leisure. And if I am too lazy to even do that, it''s simple enough for someone else to take over, meaning it''s much more likely to get done. It was great coming back from a Hawaiian vacation with my family and printing out pictures that day for them to take home!

This printer doesn''t get 5 stars because of photo quality vs. cost of goods. You can get the printing packs for half a buck per photo, but professional printing will cost less. The photos from pros will usually look better too. While this is a dye sublimation printer, it only uses three colors of ink, so better inkjets, dye-subs and professional prints will have better colors than this machine. Based purely on tech specs this one should beat out most of the cheaper inkjets (including other stand alone photo printers in the same price range) but I haven''t seen any side-by-side comparisons. On the plus side, the Sony does "print" a transparent layer over the picture that''ll keep it from fading for quite a while. As for my personal opinion of the printouts (as a casual pic taker with a Canon SD500), I would give them an A-/B+. The colors could be a bit more vibrant, but I have also been surprised by just how much they will pop in a good pic. Ultimately however I feel that the convenience of having everyone sitting on the couch and picking out the photos they want through the television means the minor cost/quality issue becomes inconsequential, because without that convenience those pictures might never see the light of day in any form.

Overall I would recommend this unit to friends who do casual printing and want something that is very simple to use. I''ve even considered sending one to my mother for Christmas. While the interface as a whole is perhaps not quite as intuitive to use as an ipod, anyone who isn''t scared by a cellphone or basic computer use should be able to handle it easily. It''s also flexible, taking a variety of card formats and providing different options for choosing the pictures you want to print though I would be surprised if you ever used anything but the TV out. And ultimately I think that anyone who gets it will be printing more photos than before.

Finally, a couple of notes for those who decide to take the plunge. Don''t count on finding the 3.5x5 paper easily, I haven''t seen it anywhere. ALL of the 4x6 paper is "postcard paper" I was a bit confused at first looking for "normal" 4x6 packs. The paper has tear-off edges on the left and right it''s micro-perforated so you wont get any rough edges, but it''s a bit of a pain to tear off without "fingerprinting" or creasing the photo. Enjoy!

I just received my printer tonight and could not wait to try it out. I have had a Sony digital camera for over two years, and have only been able to print pictures via my regular inkjet printer. I decided to purchase this photo printer so I could get much clearer, better quality pictures. I love that this printer allows you to print from a Memory Stick without having to connect the printer to your computer. It could not be easier. Just insert the memory stick in the printer and you are set to go. It was extremely easy to set up, and it comes with trial paper and ink. I have only used it to print out 6 pictures, but thus far I am very happy with my purchase. The photo''s are extremely clear. They look like I took them to a high quality lab to have them developed!

I bought this printer for my wife. After unwrapping and installing it to the TV we were able to print maybe 10 pictures and then it continuously asked to put paper in the tray even when it already had it. Returned it to the store and got a replacement. After a few prints, I had the same problem. I finally gave up on it. Felt like I threw $100 to the trash.

I love the picture printer BUT where do you get the paper and the Print Cartridges.

I just went to Staples and to Office Max and neither of them had it. I can''t even find it on the Sony site.

Please advise.

HP P2035N LaserJet Printer Monochrome

HP P2035N LaserJet Printer Monochrome
  • LaserJet Printer Monochrome
  • Built in Ethernet/Fast Ethernet Networking
  • 150 Sheet Output Bin
  • Print Speed Up to 30 ppm and Up to 600 by 600 dpi
  • Hi Speed USB 2.0 Port and Security Device Slot

This is a great little printer. First page out in 7-8 seconds, and after that a page every two seconds. It is loud, but only while printing. After that a fan runs for about 30 seconds and then shuts down (I returned a Brother 2170 because the fan would run for 15-30 minutes after printing a single page). Installation was a snap. The printer also comes with a regular toner cartridge rather than a "starter" cartridge. Highly recommended.

I have used various HP printers in my law office for over twenty years, and until now I was always satisfied. I bought this P2035N on 8/9/2010 because of its speed, and it is quick.

The major (and unforgivable) drawback is the cost and lifespan of the consumable ink cartridge (the P2035N only uses the HP 05A cartridge, and NOT the HP 05X high capacity cartridge). The HP 05A cartridge costs about $90, and is rated at 2,300 pages (about 4 cents per page). The first new cartridge lasted thirty days. The second one only lasted twenty days. The HP 05X (high capacity) cartridge costs about $165 and is rated at 6,500 pages (2.5 cents per page); however, the P2035N printer cannot use the 05X cartridge.

By comparison, my former HP P2015d printer could use the HP 53X (extended use) cartridge (costs $165, rated at 7,000 pages), which means that it costs about 2.4 cents per page, and it would last me about 3 months. Even the HP 53A cartridge (costs $90, rated at 3,000 pages) costs about 3 cents per page.

Based on the above experience, here is my bottom line: Don''t buy this printer. To print 2,300 pages per month costs about $90 on the P2035n, but would only cost about $57 if it could use the high capacity 05X cartridge. That means it costs me almost $400 more per year (which is $100 more than I paid for the printer itself). I''ve thought about just buying the HP 2055n, because it''s just as fast and it can use the 05X cartridge; but I hear reports that the P2055n is horribly slow at printing PDF documents (and I now scan all of my files into PDF formats).

I bought this printer to replace the only printer I''ve ever owned my HP Laserjet 4L, which I bought 15 years ago next month. I am still in deep mourning, and I would not have replaced it even now except that I was getting tired of not being able to print legible Mapquest and Google maps. So of course I stuck with HP. Major product loyalty here. Every office I''ve ever worked in has primarily used HPs because we regretted it if we strayed too far from the mother ship.

I''ve had this for about six weeks now, and I like it just fine. It was easy to set up and the print quality is excellent (which, after all, is the big enchilada). It will also manually duplex, which is a feature I wanted this time and caused me to eliminate some other printers from the competition. The footprint is actually about the same as my lil'' 4L''s, but it''s so much taller it looks gigantic, which is a drawback. I had read the reviews here before purchasing, many of which comment on how noisy it is. That''s true, but I found when going through the settings on the installation CD that it has a quiet mode, which turns out to be substantially less noisy than the regular mode. It does slow the print speed down slightly, but one could always change the setting for a big job and go take the dog for a walk. The only reason I''m giving this a 4 instead of a five is that it will be a while before I can fully evaluate how well the toner cartridges do. Otherwise, if I can''t keep my Laserjet 4L, I''ll take this one.

I was a little bit concerned about the purchase after reading a few comments regarding noise and delay in output. I have owned several HP laserjet printers over the last 30 years (starting with HP Laser jet II series, 4, 4 plus, 5, 5P, 6 and 6P, 6210 etc). This one is the best, faster than all the older ones. Actually, it is a lot quieter than 4, 5 or 6 series. After the job is done, it goes almost completely quiet. There is a few seconds lag when the print command is sent over the network, but that is natural because of the speed of the network itself. I was able to install the printer over my home network in less than a minute. The output quality is better than most other printers I have used in the past. There is a potential for concern regarding the toner cost, as it is expensive, and I do not yet know how many pages I will get out of a fresh toner. All in all, a great printer at this price. I had to pay two to three times as much for other HP laserjets, in the past.

Added 9/23/09: As I feared, the toner that came with the printer did not even last 200 pages. That makes the cost per printed page to almost 40 cents per page. I am quite disappointed with that. I will ask Amazon to replace the toner cartridge for me. Hopefully, they will do so.

Added 7/1/2011 I just bought another P2035N today. I installed it on Win XP computer. When I tried to print it using my laptop that has Win 7 (64 Bit), the printer kept on printing and printing the same page over an over again. I was really mad at HP and Microsoft for not fixing this issue even after 3 years of knowing about it. Anyway, to get around the problem, I removed the default driver and installed HP Laser Jet Family PCL5 driver. It has resolved the repeated printing problem. I like the printer, as I have now purchased 3 of them, but hate HP and MSFT for being so inefficient and totally uncaring about the customer.

If I could give this printer a zero star rating, I would.

This printer suffers from the same problems that plagued the last series of printers. The previous model was the P2015dn that would lose its web interface and network settings randomly. A power cycle would usually bring the printers back online.

We have had this printer in service for 5 days. In the 5 days, it went offline/locked up 5 times. Each time, the printer locked up completely. It could not be printed to, the web interface was not accessible, it could not be pinged and dropped completely off the network. It could not even be seen in the router as an active client.

The first lockup started at the 36 hour mark, then around 21 hours, and again around 20 hours and then the final straw was twice in the same day within 8 hours. Each time, power cycling the printer brought it up. This is not acceptable for a network printer. You should not have to power cycle it to make sure the printer is online and your print job will go through.

A call to HP was useless, and they denied any problems. Do a quick google search and this problem is all over the HP tech support forums.

This problem affects all of the "P" and "CP" series printers. HP has not made a reliable business class printers since the 1320n back when the printers were still made in japan. They have now switched to a Chinese manufacturer for their printers. Stay away.

Roselle Bright Colors Suphite Construction Paper, 9 x 12 Inches, Assorted, 50 Sheets Per Package
  • Sulphite Construction Paper From Roselle Paper Co.
  • 9x12, 50 Sheets Per Pack
  • Assorted
  • 50% Recycled Content
  • Heavy Weight 76lb Paper

This construction paper is great! My daughter loves to cut and glue and tape things out of construction paper and I was getting frustrated with how smushy construction paper seems to be now (as compared to when I was a kid in the 70s) not very bright, colors are muddy, markers and paint turn it into a sodden mess, it bends easily, tears easily, just cruddy and disappointing overall.

This Roselle construction paper is really amazing, and worth every penny. The colors are vivid and gorgeous, it is much more sturdy and smooth so it''s great for crayons, pencils, and markers. It cuts cleanly and folds nicely. I''m running out of -ly adjectives so just take it from me that if you''re looking for a nice-quality construction paper that will open up your kids'' creativity, this is it.

The test print built in photo was great... but quite a few of my own hi-res material printed out with a few streaks across the photo. The darker the background the better the output. I haven''t used it enough to judge if the ink cartridges are very costly compared to other printers. I bought it because it was a great deal and I had gotten a bunch of 4 x 6 paper free and wanted to use it up easily. You may want to check out the more up-to-date models (i.e. use of SD cards and image display models) before you settle on this model. I was so pleased to find the A310 HP photo printer that I was looking for. It was exactly the item I had not been able to find with HP as they are no longer being manufactured. It was labeled as used, but had not been even removed from it''s orginal packaging. The only drawback was that the ink cartridge had dried out and was not usable, otherwise it would have been a real bargain basically free, as the price of the printer was less than the price of the ink cartridge! Thanks, Amazon

The math in the previous review was incorrect. At 9 ml for the Standard cartridge, and 13 ml for the XL cartridge, the costs are as follows:

Standard $20.43 -$2.27 per ML

XL $26.99 - $2.08 per ML

So, yes... the larger capacity XL cartridge is a better buy.

Using second cartridge in a new printer so I don''t really know how long this one will last. However, the canon cartridges that were in the printer when purchased were short lived. If these are similar then it will be cheaper to buy a new printer with cartridges included than to purchase the cartridges alone. (I paid 39.00 for the printer),

So, if the cartridges last a reasonable time, then I might recommend them to others. 1
