HP Color LaserJet 2600n Printer (Q6455A#ABA)

HP Color LaserJet 2600n Printer
  • Color laser printer offers affordable color printing
  • Up to 600 x 600 dpi for both black and color prints with 8 ppm speed for both black and color
  • 250-sheet paper tray, with option to add second tray
  • 16-character front panel LCD display offers easy-to-access information
  • Device measures 16.0 x 14.6 x 17.8 inches (WxHxD)

I guess the way the printer is set up is to ASSUME that you are using the color cartridges on an average basis, regardless of whether they are actually being used or not. Thus, it estimates when the cartridges should run out and when that time comes, you are locked out of further printing until the cartridges are replaced even though they may be full of toner. However, reading through the User Guide, there appears to be a solution on using the Color Toner Cartridges beyond the "replacement" time.

Page 94 of the User Guide has the following instructions for those who would like to use the toner beyond their replacement time:

Configuration

Cartridge Out Override can only be enabled from the printer''s control panel menu.

1. From the main menu, press (RIGHT ARROW) to System setup and press (SELECT).

2. Press (RIGHT ARROW) to Print quality and press (SELECT).

3. Press (RIGHT ARROW) to Replace supplies and press (SELECT).

4. Press (RIGHT ARROW) to Override out and press (SELECT).

5. Press (SELECT).

If Stop at out is selected, the printer will stop printing when a cartridge reaches the recommended replacement point. If Override out is selected, the printer will continue

printing when a cartridge reaches the recommended replacement point. The factory default setting is Stop at out.

You know, on paper, the HP 2600n probably makes no sense not much memory, one-pass engine (speeds for black and color are the same), expensive replacement cartridges, slow black-only speed, average looks, small & unimpressive LCD display.

But.... In the real world, this printer will surprise and even amaze you! If you print ANY color in your documents, this printer will leave it''s competition in the dust in terms of performance. Color print-outs are fast and come out instantly no warm-up, etc. The unusual design allows it to take up minimal space on your desk and provides easy paper retrieval and cartridge replacement. The simple display is incredibly intuitive and features are easily & quickly located.

Instead of lots of memory, the printer makes use of your computer''s memory and cpu (read: not post-script) this may have a very slight performance effect on your computer. But, you never have to worry about purchasing extra printer memory ($$), since your computer probably has plenty of it available and probably more CPU power than you need.

Operating noise is acceptable and the printer never over-heats (common on some other color laser models). The HP support software isn''t the flashy kind that populates your tool bars just a very simple and effective set of utilities, which helps you configure and maintain the printer.

Color text print quality is the best I''ve seen on any kind of printer, and business graphics are unrivaled. The photo printouts are pretty decent for a laser, but not in the class of inkjets but they sure come out fast!

While the cartridges are expensive at least the printer comes with FULL capacity cartridges, which ironically cost more than the printer. (You are literally getting the printer for free!). I have printed several large documents (including many hi-res pictures) and the cartridges are still showing 98% capacity!

So, when should you NOT get this printer? If you mainly print-out reams of black/white documents, then this printer is NOT a good choice; go for a monochrome or 4-pass color laser instead. But, most home users do print some color (ie, web pages) which makes this a much better real-world printer.

They have the more powerful one-pass engine type HP color lasers where I work, and they are impressive; which makes me believe the 2600n should be reliable as well.

I bought this printer in October, 2005, primarily to print documents with occasional color use. To my surprise, about 3/4 of the way through my second black toner cartridge, the three color cartridges were exhausted. The supply counter reported that I had printed 4800 pages in color! I print VERY LITTLE color, and I just could not understand it. I called HP tech support, and was told that in fact even when you think you are printing black text only, the printer uses "a little" color toner too. I was not happy to hear this, since nowhere in HP''s literature that I could find is this mentioned, but OK. . .they told me I could prevent this by printing in "draft" instead of in "normal," and by printing in greyscale. So, I loaded the new color cartridges (THREE of them, at approx. $80 each!!!), and guess what? The page counter CONTINUED to count pages for each of the color cartridges AND for the black cartridges! So, I called tech support back and was THEN informed that there is no way to avoid "using" color (I don''t know if the printer actually uses color, or if the counter just "says" it does. The end result is the same. You can''t print in black if your color cartridges are "out.") Tech support called this a "cheap" printer and said that the grayscale option isn ''t available, no matter what you try to set up. Needless to say, I feel pretty disgusted and cheated. I will use up the remaining toner and then throw this machine away. I think HP should be ashamed. The tech guy seemed to think I should have somehow "known" about this. Phoo! Don''t buy it. M. Zashin

Addendum: To be fair, I called HP tech support a third time and was then told that tech support #2 was wrong. You CAN print in grayscale and by doing so will avoid "using" color toner. It is also important to download and install the latest firmware from the HP site. I am following these suggestions, and will suspend judgment until I find out if this is now accurate information. M. Zashin

Don''t be fooled by the 600 x 600 resolution listed. The printer outputs fantastic quality photo prints and (obviously) great text. If you are considering this instead of an inkjet for photos, be warned that a laser printer will only output as good as the source material. Pics from my 5MP Kodak EasyShare camera look beter than on my (also HQ) HP inkjet. But older lower res (3mp) photos exhibit color inaccuracies. In short, if your photo has a flaw, the 2600n will show it (Laser Printers don''t hide flaws by "bleeding" like inkjets do). Laser printers also aren''t for novices, you *will* have to play around with the driver menus to get optimal quality and speedbut when you do, you should be quite satisfied.

******************

I have had my HP color Laserjet 2600n for about one year. I also have a regular HP monochrome laserjet for the bulk of my printing needs (faster & auto-duplex & lower toner cost), and an Epson color inkjet for printing better quality photos. I use the 2600n for two reasons: color webpage printing and printing the tray inserts for CDs that I produce in my recording studio (I use a special robotic inkjet printer for printing on the CDs themselves, no adhesive labels here!)

I went into this purchase with some trepidation, because the cost of replacing all 4 tomer cartridges exceeds the cost of the whole printer. I initially figured that I might just buy a new one every time the toner ran out, and donate the toner-less printer carcass to schools, etc. Well, nobody wants these as donations, because they would still need to shell out more money for toner than it would cost to buy a new machine WITH toner. I should add, however, that HP claims and independent labs have shown that the toner cartridges that come with this printer are as full as the ones you would buy later they are NOT half full. It seems to be true that HP is giving the printer away in order to sell toner later on.

I have had nothing but good luck with the 2600n so far. I have not experienced paper feed issues, and the only print quality problem I have seen is when I try to print large areas of a single color; this printer, like most (if not all) laser printers, does a poor job of producing large areas of single color coverage. You get an unevenly printed area when you try. But one rarely has to print such things.

All 4 toner cartridges have been depleting at about the same rate, and are almost ready for replacement. I decided that, since the printer is inexpensive, I would experiment with toner replacement kits. I bought a well-reviewed kit on eBay for $135, including the four bottles of toner, refilling tools and supplies, and a set of new fuseable ''chips'' that tell the printer that the cartridges are new after being refilled. If this does not work well for me, I have already purchased a set of new cartridges. The online information I have seen says that the cartridges have internal components that wear out, and one cannot expect them to hold up for more than their original lifespan plus one subsequent refill. So, whether the toner refills work well or not, I have the NEXT toner change already waiting in the closet.

Some reviewers have mentioned that the 2600n does not handle or print well on card stock or heavier papers. The printer does things differently depending on settings you can make in the driver configuration. If I am printing to heavy paper or card stock, I do get poor results if I forget to tell the driver about it ahead of time. With the ''heavy'' paper setting, the printer is much slower; I assume that it is keeping the paper in the fuser stage for a longer time to heat the paper more thoroughly, the better to fuse the toner to the paper. This may also inprove print quality and paper handling as well, but I noticed that with heavy paper, unless I use the correct setting, the toner is not well attached to the paper and can rub or fall off.

(Epson told me, regarding my color inkjet printer, that when I change the paper thickness setting there, that it not only changes how much ink is sprayed, but the paper handling pick-up roller accelerations are adjusted to compensate for the different paper handling characteristics. I imagine that this may also be the case with paper handling on the 2600n....this is why I suggest you read the manual and/or study the driver''s settings you might be using the wrong ones and getting poor results).

Overall, I think what HP has provided a good quality, easy to use machine that allows entry level color laser printing. As with any office equipment, you can pay more initially to get lower operating costs. If you don''t do a ton of color printing, the 2600n is a pretty good balance between initial afforability and subsequent operating costs. Even if you just bought a new one once a year, you would be getting a pretty good deal. think of it as an installment plan or an annual rent, where you expect to pay $350 each year to have color laser printing available.

************

Update, November 2007

The toner refill kit that I mentioned earlier finally came into use recently. The printer had been chugging along for months after the point when its toner cartridge meters read ''empty'', but finally the black became truly depleted and I got an error message, "You must replace black toner before proceeding to print". So, I opened that $135 box from Ink Owl, and followed the directions to refill the black cartridge. This included making holes in the cartridge''s ''waste toner'' bin and removing that excess toner, then plugging the holes, making another hole to fill the ''fresh toner'' bin, and finally replacing the ''chip''. By the way, I learned two things doing this:

you never want to change black toner in a room with white walls, even with lots of extra care to prevent mess...the toner makes a cloud that settles on everything, and is very noticeable on while walls.

the ''chip'' really is a circuit with tiny integrated circuit and surface mount components...it is not just a fuse as some other printers use.

Anyway, the refill worked, but I was not happy with the results. Immediately, the printer started laying down a light gray shadow over the entire page, very visible on white (unprinted) areas, and anything that was supposed to be pure black was now dark gray instead. Also, the new black toner seemed to disagree with the other color toners, as the particles seemed to repel each other. Being concerned that the refilled cartridge might be hosing the printer or the other cartridges, I replaced the refilled one with a factory fresh black one, and print quality returned to normal. Based on this experience, I do NOT recommend refilling the cartridges for this printer.

I purchased this cutter to trim large photos before taking them to my dry-mount press. This is a very precise trimmer. I can literally shave what seems like a hundreth of an inch off of an edge. There is no comparison with my knife trimmer (you know... the old guillotine type trimmer) I only wished I got the 36" instead of the 24" This trimmer is designed to cut only in 1 direction because of a metal guard but that is an easy change. Once you look at how the rotary blade works you can see how to modify that. I choose to keep it factory.

Well Made!

Brother HL-5240 High-Speed Desktop Office Laser Printer

Brother HL-5240 High-Speed Desktop Office Laser Printer
  • Fast print speeds up to 30 ppm
  • High-capacity paper tray holds up to 250-sheets
  • 1200 x 1200 dpi maximum resolution
  • One-touch print cancel button
  • Supports virtually any office or graphics application

Just unpacked and set up the printer. Initial results on 8 1/2 x 11 sheets are great. Excellent quality, good speed, setup went without a hitch.

Unfortunately, no matter what I do it mangles #10 envelopes fed through the manual feeder. I believe I''ve tried all the pertinent thickness settings in the driver, including envelopes, envelope thin, envelope thick, etc. Every envelope comes out badly wrinkled. The envelopes are ordinary Staples #10s, which I''ve used without much trouble in a Laserjet5 for years (the heat in that printer does glue the flap a bit, but just lightly. I''m debating returning the Brother HL-5240. The online FAQs from Brother seem completely useless, as they mostly repeat the manual''s instructions for inserting the envelopes.

Anyone have ideas on getting around this? Are there special envelopes that will work?

If you don''t need envelopes, I''d give this **** or maybe even ***** based on just a few hours use. For envelopes, it doesn''t even rate one star, and that makes me nervous about the overall quality.

**UPDATE***: I''ve managed to get at least some envelopes to print cleanly. Thanks to the comments posted by John Bissel on the HL-5250, as those led me in the right direction. Anyway, what''s worked for me is:

* Office Depot sells some #10 envelopes under their own brand name that are specifically listed as working with laser and inkjet printers.

I found those wrinkle a lot less than the many other #10s I tried.

* Use the com-10 size and envelope-thin media.

* Here''s the tricky part. Those two fixes get you close, but there''s still a bit of a wrinkle on the trailing edge. Thanks to Mr. Bissel, I found the secret pressure release flippers in the back of the printer. Yes they are documented. No, they are not mentioned under envelopes, or in the general guides to the printers features. No they''re not in the printed documentation. You have to go into the PDF user guide that gets installed along with the printer (use the Windows Start/Programs to find it). Then you have to look in the troubleshooting section under crinkled pages or some such. Then you find the flippers. It warns you to fip them up only for envelopes, then down, which would be a huge hassel. Like Mr. Bissel, I''ve had fine luck leaving them up all the time. Perhaps my output on regular pages is a tad less dark.

So, now I''m happy. Printer is great. I should say that I sent a query to Brother''s email-based support service. They promise response in 1 business day. It''s been 4 days, and so far I''ve heard nothing.

I bought the Brother HL-5240 Laser Printer the last week of December,

2005. This is my first laser printer, and I wanted something to replace an

inkjet printer which became erratic after 25,000 cyles. I''m what I call serious

retired, I''m not going to use the printer in business but I do a lot of printing

pursuing my hobbies of genealogy, bridge, and photography. I wanted a

productive black and white printer mostly for text or line type art work, I do

my photo printing on an Epson R1800.

My first impression was that setup was a breeze. I am running Windows

XP Professional in a Hewlett Packard Workstation xw4100 computer. The

quick setup sheet led me through what to do, and everything loaded off the single

CD furnished with the unit. I understand that if I had Windows XP 64x version,

it would have been necessary to go to Brother''s website for the printer driver.

I loaded up some paper, and ran a few prints of things I had in my hard

drive. Yes, it really DOES print 30 pages a minute, of printed text, by the stopwatch!

However, there is a ten second delay after sending a print command before the

first copy begins.

With regard to paper. I had LOTS of inkjet paper on hand, and I ran a

couple hundred sheets of Hammermill 24 lb inkjet through the Brother before

I discovered, buried in the Manual, a caution NOT to use inkjet paper! So I got

some house brand 24 lb printing paper from the local office supply.

I thought a good test would be to print out the manual for the unit, since it''s

on the CD but there''s no paper copy included in the box. Besides, I needed a

copy of the manual, and having it on the computer was inconvenient. So I

offer here a set of instructions for BROTHER HL-5240 owners who would

like to give their new unit a bit of a test, and get a manual besides: The Manual

for the unit runs 137 pages. My instructions will print it out in booklet mode on

35 sheets of paper, using both sides. It will take approximately six minutes.

I assume that you have the printer up and running, that you have loaded

the bottom tray with paper, and that you have located the Manual Print (upper)

tray, it folds down from the front and some flaps extend; it is light gray plastic.

Click on the HL-5240 Program from the program list on your desktop.

Click on USERS GUIDE IN PDF FORMAT. I assume you have Adobe Acrobat

and can read the user''s guide. Click on your part of the World Map (USA Canada

for me). This will bring up the Manual for the HL-5240. Click on FILE. On FILE,

Click on PRINT; click on PROPERTIES. At Duplex/Booklet, select BOOKLET.

Click on ADVANCED; click on the A/B panel. Next click on BINDING OFFSET

and enter the figures 0.4 inches for the binding offset. Next, OKAY each window

in turn.

Now, I have just given you the instructions to the printer to print a booklet

with the left edge left unprinted for margin so you can punch and bind the result.

Give the print command for using lower tray paper.

The printer will begin printing after a minute or so, and should complete

printing one side. This will require about 90 seconds. Draw a light pencil arrow

on a corner of the pile of printout before removing it, pointing toward the printer.

Take the pile of printout, jog it so it is nice and even, and put it blank side

up in the upper tray with the pencil arrow pointing toward the printer. Click on MP

tray on the computer and the printer should complete its run in another 90 seconds.

Want Brother HL-5240 High-Speed Desktop Office Laser Printer Discount?

I purchased this printer for it''s fast printing speed and long life in toner and drum, but it''s really been a let down. The printer has this habit of creasing and wrinkling the paper on the first 2 pages of every print out. So now I have to send 3 copies of everything I want to the printer, wasting paper and ink. I''ve tried different kinds of paper, and every troubleshooting option offered to me by the fine folks at Brother, but it continues to do this. I''ve looked around the Internet, and found this is a common defect in the 5240 and 5250 models. It''s really an inconvenience, and now I have to purchase a new printer because it''s such a pain. If you love to be frustrated and angered over print quality and paper use, this is the printer for you. Otherwise, avoid at all costs.

Have two of these printers. Both began creasing the center of paper after a short period of use. Creases got worse and they started to jam. Went to Brother online tech support. Was told to use other paper. Emailed back that I used high quality paper but was told that was the cause. Not so. This seems to be a common problem with this printer and Brother will not acknowledge. Past Brother printers work great. Not sure I will try another Brother.

  • Package Includes: 1x Thermal Printer, 1x Instruction Manual, 1x Printer Driver, 1x Power Adapter, 1x USB Cable, 1x Power Line, 1x 58mm Thermal Paper Rolls

I bought this printer recently and, despite poorly translated instructions in the manual, I installed it under Windows 7, but only after some detective work. The manual gives a completely wrong explanation of how to install the driver. To do it right, you need to open the mini-CD that ships with the printer, open the Driver subdirectory, open the POS58 subdirectory (since this is the 58mm wide printer), then double click on the executable driver installation program. From there, follow the prompts, but be sure you know which USB port you will use.

CAVEAT: If you print a test page, it will print the standard Windows 7 test page, so be prepared for A LOT of that tiny roll of sample paper to print, when you have the USB port selected correctly. Otherwise, once it starts, turn the power off to conserve paper and purge the printer buffer.

Once I got this part of the installation right and figured out that it has 30 printable columns without text wrap, I was good to go! My local Sam''s Club has 24 rolls of 58 mm thermal paper (85 feet long) for less than $10, so it should be fairly economical! Or you can but it from Amazon.com....

Although it doesn''t print in a condensed font and I''m still trying to figure out how to print a graphic on the tape for each receipt printed, I like it. Best part: I didn''t pay $180 for a name-brand receipt printer, so I think I got a good value. Except the documentation. I want a rebate for that! LOL

I installed the printer into a windows xp pro. Popped the mini disk in and followed prompts. Chose the USB port not LPT port (I had 3 usbs to choose from, 2 were taken, so I logically chose the 3rd) then continued on. I didnt have to make any changes to the paper size. I then plugged the printer into the computer and ran a test page. Worked like a champ. Would recc this printer, beats paying upwards of $300 for one.

Yes, the documentation is shaky, but I didn''t find a need for it. I popped in the mini-disc to install the driver on my Windows 7 system, plugged in the printer, and tada! Works like a charm.

So I got this to wrok with my laptop...then I tried installing on my register pc, which would not recognize it properly. I tried to follow the prompts...but it kept automatically installing the wrong thing and would not work.....So I switched to another pc I had and it works with that one......I think I will try again with a different USB selected now that I have seen these reviews...but otherwise...it now works good.....and what a deal and fast shipping!

I was pleasantly surprised with this paper I ordered it, along with some other "brochure" paper options that cost considerably more. This is just as good for my purposes, small run newsletters for my wine club. I ran it on two different Canon ink jet printers using their number "8" ink. Very high quality, sharp images and text.

I had a problem with photo paper I had purchased; it would get stuck in the HP laserjet printer and I would waste a lot of paper. Worse than that, it was very frustrating trying to get a simple photo printed. I read a couple of reviews to try this brochure paper and it works beautifully. Photos come out very nicely. Only wish the paper was just a tad thicker, but that''s not a huge problem unless you are giving away a photo without a frame.

HP Laserjet Enterprise 500 Color M551N

HP Laserjet Enterprise 500 Color M551N
  • Bold color and crisp details with HP EasyColor technology
  • HP ePrint?print from virtually anywhere using your smartphone or tablet
  • Save energy with HP Auto-On/Auto-Off technology

What I offer here is more of a "first impression" after having printed only 545 pages on my new HP LaserJet 500 color M551n printer. I can say that so far, the HP has performed flawlessly. This is a very nice, very well constructed, solid (and heavy) color laser printer. So let me give you some specifics.

Going from the box to your point-of-use is not going to be easy. This is a heavy printer (75 pounds but it feels heavier) and most people will want or need someone to help them move it. I helped the delivery driver take it off the truck and walk it into my garage. My wife then helped me get it out of the box and from there I slowly and laboriously carried the printer up to my office. Once in place though, you''ll be printing in no time.

Setting up, and connecting to, this printer was easy. I have it installed on my network. I use Windows 7 Home Premium. Between my operating system and the HP software the printer is recognized without any difficulty. The software that comes with the printer was not the most current which I found to be only mildly frustrating. But installing updated software from HP''s website is straightforward.

Image quality is much, much better than I anticipated. In fact, I''ll say it''s absolutely beautiful. Skin tones, for example, are perfect and there''s no banding on a full-page image. And I''m just using plain paper at the printer''s default setting of 600 × 600 dpi. I do a lot of PowerPoint presentations with graphs and images and the color/image quality is great.

This printer is very fast. From sleep mode, when you send a print job, the first page is out in 18.5 seconds. If the printer is already awake, it prints the first page in 10.9 seconds. These speeds are based on my sending the print jobs from my notebook computer which is connected wirelessly to my network.

I purchased this printer to replace a Xerox Phaser 8650 that simply could not print without regularly producing a paper jam. That was a huge and unacceptable aggravation for a new printer and it is my biggest "anticipated" though, as yet, unfounded fear with my new HP. Based on having owned two Xerox Phaser printers (the 8650 and an 8550 Phaser before that), both of which were highly rated, all I can say is that I will never buy a Xerox Phaser printer again. I''m now an advocate for HP laser printers. If I run into any problems I''ll be sure to provide an update. Until then, I think you will be pleased with this printer.

I wanted to order some color flyers for the launching of my new business. All directions were going to cost more for shipping to Alaska than the printing of the flyers. I researched and found good reviews on this printer. When it arrived I had a bit of trouble getting the feeder to not jam. However, after reaching commercial tech support they guided me to a missed shipping tab that when removed made my printer work perfectly. The color is amazing, the ease of use is great. I love HP printers and this color laserjet is no exception. I highly recommend it.

Background:

I purchased this enterprise printer as a replacement for an older LaserJet 3600n that was approaching end of life. I have two of those with one still in service and have found them reliable. We use these printers in a small office with 3 people, and periodically print large documents 1000 pages or more.

The Good:

The new printer is certainly easy to install and prints like the wind. Print speed is awesome and the paper drawer takes an entire ream at once, also a major convenience. Lovely print quality too. A further benefit is that the toner cartridges are significantly physically smaller than the ones for the 3600n, saving storage space (I keep two sets on hand).

The Bad:

We often print documents that contain both landscape and portrait pages. It is mandated by our clients (and regulatory agencies who receive our end product) that when put into binders the landscape pages be oriented with the header at the spine of the binder, that is rotated counterclockwise.

Turns out that printing to this thing from MS Word that is not possible. HP online support is not only difficult to get to but did not understand the problem or offer a solution. Their online chat community is much friendlier but also did not have a solution.

The workaround is to first print to PDF and then to print to the LaserJet 500, but this is ridiculous in an enterprise printer.

Yes, we''ve tried all of the available settings. Yes, I''ve installed alternate drivers. Yes, I''ve tried this with 4 different computers. Always the same performance LaserJet 500 rotates landscape pages clockwise, all other printers in my office counterclockwise.

Personal opinion is that I''d send the thing back if I''d purchased it from Amazon (like I usually do) but in this case I got it directly from HP.

Recommendation:

Buy it if you only print documents with a single orientation.

Buy it if you only print from Acrobat.

Buy it from Amazon if you are unsure.

Note that if I get drivers that work (or any other help from HP) I''d raise my review to 5 stars. HP support would still get significantly fewer.

Update: For whatever reason I decided to try installing PCL5 drivers. Voile, it now works properly. The only issue (actually a non-issue) is that the icon for the printer now shows some sort of multifunction device.

HP was no help in any regard. While they clearly design fine printers I''m not convinced that they know how to do software V&V on their drivers. Fortunately older versions are still readily available.

We have used this printer for about a month and all is well. The startup period from sleep to print is around 20 seconds which is a major improvement over our last printer.

We use it to print high color graphics on glossy paper for sales purposes as well as normal document printing and it works flawlessly.

The paper tray actually rolls out smoothly and doesn''t feel like it can be broken with normal use. The paper itself fits in the tray sideways which prevents the weight of a full reem from pressuring the paper sizing bracket inside the tray when you close it. We had many problems with false paper jams on our last HP from this very issue.

The management web interface is also much improved and is very useful.

Overall this is a great printer.

This "top of the line" printer will not handle the heavy weight stock that it is advertised to print on. On stock up to 28 lb. paper, it does a good job, Above that, after printing five or six impressions, it begins to smear. Since it cost over $700.000, we are disappointed in the result. From additional internet searches, it looks like the ability to do what we want will require a printer that costs twice as much. Still undecided what to do.

Epson Stylus NX-127 All-in-One Color Inkjet Printer

Epson Stylus NX-127 All-in-One Color Inkjet Printer - Copier - ScannerThis is by far the WORST printer I have ever had. We got it during Thanksgiving when Best Buy had their $30 deal. It worked okay (just noisy and slow) until it ran out of ink, which was really quickly. We''ve now gone through two ink replacements just trying to get it realigned, the nozzles cleaned, etc. All inks must be full to work, which stinks since you use up the entire new ink cartridges very quickly after loading them just trying to get the heads realigned. Going through Epson''s help center came up with "There is no solution to your problem." After spending several hours and all of my paper running through all the tests and trying to get it not to skip lines when it prints, I''m done. It''s not worth the hassle. The scanner is ok, so I''m going to hook my old printer back up and just use this thing to scan. If it weren''t for that I''d take it out to some lonely rural area and run over it repeatedly with my car. Spend your money on something better and save the frustration and hundred dollars'' worth of ink!

My need for a scanner was the primary motivation for this purchase. Worked fine for one week. The printer comes with epson cartridges 124; they''re billed as moderate. That''s too kind an adjective as they didn''t last but about 40 sheets. The replacement ink cartridge is epson number 125 (expensive considering its output) and is billed as normal but the I dont know if it would have lasted due to the printer failing to power up. Yes, it didn''t last a month.

The printer does not seemable to do basic functions well. Out of the box-you''re tweaking the paper to load, etc.

Save your money. Buy a brother. I was desperate due to a recent move and bought this marketing tool for their overpriced ink cartridges.

This printer''s scanner does not scan full images, frequently cuts off the top of an image, and is all around difficult. Picture quality is mediocre, the ink is insanely hard to replace, and the buttons do not always function correctly. Do not buy this printer!

HP PhotoSmart 2575 All-in-One Printer / Copier / Scanner
  • Print/Scan/Copy with Built-in Networking
  • Direct Photo Printing with 2.5-inch Color Display

  • 48-Bit Color and HP Instant Share Enabled
  • 12.20lbs (LxWxH) 20.00"x 17.32"x 16.90"

Like so many others, my HP printer suffered from the chronic paper feed problems. The tech support people gave the standard suggestions (use a bigger/smaller stack of paper, do a power cycle, clean the roller). Nothing worked (surprise!). But here''s something that DOES work:

1) Clean the roller as instructed (remove the back panel, clean the roller with an alcohol swab)

2) Spray the end of a Q-tip with hairspray

3) Dab/wipe the Q-tip gently across the surface of the roller, taking extreme care to not get hairspray on anything else.

4) Allow at least 15 minutes to dry

...and VOILA! Problem solved. Doesn''t leave any residue on the paper (and even if it did, it would be on the back of the paper no biggie). And best of all, no hassle of returning the printer for servicing, dealing with shipping charges, warranty renewals, etc.

And I must say, apart from the paper feed problem (which isn''t a problem anymore), this all-in-one printer is totally freakin'' sweet!

I bought this printer on a whim after having been a satisfied Canon user for a decade. I learned my lesson and will never buy another HP product. This printer worked well for about one month of light use. After this, it began to have problems picking up paper. I have used only HP Bright Inkjet paper, and the paper is crisp and fresh, so it''s not a problem with humidity or curled paper. It''s reached a point where every sheet of paper has to be individually coaxed into the feed mechanism. Even then, it jams about half the time.

It''s hard to believe that HP did not discover this problem during product development and testing. Yet they have put this piece of junk on the market. I''m having to write mine off as a loss because it''s now too late to return it to the store, and HP''s only solution is to replace it with the exact same printer with the same problem. I''m hoping someone files a class action suit against HP for the junk they put on the market.

I''ll add my voice to the paper feed issue. After about a month it has become intollerable. Either it doesn''t feed the paper or it jambs. Everytime you print you have to get up to fix something. Being a network printer, it would be nice if you could print from your computer and go get the printout but it isn''t that easy. It isn''t a paper thing either, I use very good paper (although I don''t think I should have to be wed to HP brand everything to use this.) Stay away from this one.

I had a problem installing the printer. The help from india did not help at all. The person spent 45 minutes to an hour on the phone with me but clearly could do nothing but read from some manual. I ended up not using their software. You can set up a permanent IP address on this printer and use "add printer" in windows to print to it (ironically, choose "local port", then set up an IP port with the address you chose for the printer.)

The software is large and unnecessary, however I did have to install it and uninstall it to get the scanner to work.

If not for the paper feed issue, this is a great printer/scanner/copier.

Overall this machine does the job and seems reasonably priced. I have no problems with scanning and copying. When it comes to printing though, I think there have got to be better options available out there. I agree fully with those who''ve said they were frustrated with the poor paper handling. From my experience, I''d say this machine mishandles paper about 2-5% of the time. I like to print documents on both sides however, and the rate seems to go up considerably when you reload printed paper in this fashion. This is not to mention the compounded error involved when you load a stack of copies to print the back and all pages are thrown off after the beast sucks up 2-3 sheets instead of one. You won''t likely save any trees or money on paper with this machine. Another complaint I have is that the driver software is huge, with even the express install at about 300 MB, and the imaging programs are really nothing special. The print cartridges (HP95/98) are too small and too expensive...I generally have to replace the black and white after about 250 pages of plain text typing. The LCD screen looks impressive, however it is nothing more than a useless decoration in my opinion. I''ve owned a few HP printers in the past, and I''ve stuck with them because they''ve been durable and done a decent job. The performance of this model is not much worse than those I''ve used before, but its shortcomings are pretty annoying. I will look carefully at what other manufacturers have to offer before buying my next printer, and I recommend you do the same.

Have owned this printer for several months now, purchased the 2575xi version at Costco for about $180. We use it with a 5 year old Mac running OS 10.4 via the ethernet connection. No problems with install or any of the features.

This printer has changed the way we use our digital photos. Previously we connected the cameras via USB and imported the photos to the computer via iPhoto. This printer is equipped with multiple card readers, so now we just pop the card in and transfer/import through the printer. We are also able to view the photos on the card via the printer LCD and/or print any pictures immediately.

We have used all of the printer/scan/copier functions extensively as my wife is responsible for putting together our daughters elementary school yearbook. No problems whatsoever and not a single paper jam. The included cartridges have lasted through about 400 pages of mixed color/BW printouts, with ink still in reserve. Our previous Epson printer would get about 200 pages and a cleaning cycle was required if not used once a week. We have yet to align or clean the HP.

The software is easy to install and use and most functions can be done either via the Mac or directly from the printer interface. Because the printer is connected via ethernet, there are several nice features that one can use to enhance and share your digital photo experience. You may set up Instant Share which allows you to print photos remotely to a friend or family members'' Photosmart printer. You can upload photos to an on-line professional photo studio and you can even order the correct cartridges via the Internet (web site will ask if it can query your printer).

The only down-side I have experienced is the limited availability of cartridges. I do not know if this is because the printer is new or because of popularity. Replacement cartridges on-line run $20-$25 each. The printer uses a black cartridge (#98) and a 3-color cartridge (#95) standard. Optional photo cartridges replace the 98 with a gray cartridge (100) and the 98 with a photo 3-color photo cartridge (99). It is my understanding that they are interchangeable in that you can take them in and out as printing needs arise although I have not bought the optional cartridges.

Although we generally use an on-line pro photo service for scrap-booking and the final yearbook photos, the 2575xi is capable of nearly matching the print quality. We use Costco printing services as it is generally cheaper than the paper/ink of any consumer photo printer.

It is worth noting that there seem to be several variations of the 2575 series printer, Bestbuy sells one version and the Costco version is 2575xi. The specs are all the same and I am unsure if the difference is the due to the retailer or included software.

I soon plan to upgrade our PC to Windows XP and hope the printer works 1/2 as well as it does with the old Mac.... another classic example of getting what you pay for! A couple hundred more dollars upfront saves you $ in the long run with less hassle, no pop-ups or spyware and they run the latest software for years and years.

  • Please see the above description.

Canon P170-DH is a business adding machine with a luminescent display with bright blue digits. I bought it for the display, because it is easier to read than a regular LCD display with black digits with no lighting. This is not a scientfic calculator as described at some websites. P170-DH is a non-scientific business machine with add, subtract, multiply, divide, subtotal, grand total, cost-sell-margin, and percentages. It also does time-of-day subtraction to calculate hours worked, making it the only adding machine in this price range with that feature. The red-black-ribbon printer works fine, but it is not as fast as more expensive adding machines. All adding machines have the same buttons, so I suspect the printer speed is what determines the price. I hope you already know how to use an adding machine (not like a calculator); otherwise the one-sheet instruction paper will not be very helpful. Looking for more help, I downloaded the instructions for similar adding machines from Sharp and Casio. Turns out it is the very same single sheet of instructions. Apparently Canon, Casio, Sharp, all use the same internals for their adding machine, and they drop in the same instruction sheet.

  • Lightfastness rating of up to 27 years
  • 20 sheets per package

I''m a freelance illustrator who sells prints regularly. I bought the Epson 1280 printer two years ago thinking I could produce "professional" quality prints of my artwork. Much to my dismay, using the standard printer settings and the available epson papers, I got less than desirable results. The prints were plagued with wysiwyg problems. The art on the monitor looked great, but when it printed out, the colors were off!

I had to constantly tweak the printer settings to get the right colors. Not only that, I heard the prints would eventually turn orange over a period of time! I was about to give up on the printer, but then came along the colorlife papers.

Every print that I made with the colorlife papers have come out a near perfect match with its onscreen counterpart. The quality is terrific with vivid colors and great detail. The printout feels and looks like a real profressional quality print! Overall, I am very satisfied with this paper. Oh, I should also mention that you MUST download the colorlife printer profiles from Epson to get your prints looking right. Its a very short download and worth the small inconvenience to download it.

After trying Epson and HP, I gave up on both brands and bought an MP950 Canon a few years ago. It performed so well, I decided that when I wanted to print again at home, I bought a Canon Pro9000 MK II printer. Now, this printer is a beast. It''s heavy and big but with size comes stability. Unlike my Epson and HP printers, this beast doesnt hardly shake as it works. The printer handles all the types of paper I through at it from the typical glossy think photopaper to the Moab rag artist paper. Absolutely no lines or spaces, just really nice tones and prints. When installing on a Mac, it''s bit of a pain. For Mountain Lion you need to download the current drivers. The install also needs a reboot which they forget to mention in the directions. But once that driver is in place, it works really well.

Very happy with everything regarding this purchase. It only took 3 days for the printer to reach me using standard mail, very surprising. The print quality is excellent and quite speedy! If you''re thinking about it you should probably just do it instead of deliberating any longer.

Good color match of printer to PC display. So far I love this printer, but it is a monster in size, so be sure you have enough dedicated room for ease of operations. Large papers load from the rear if you are doing large prints, find a good spot for front and rear clearance to load and receive completed photos.

Setup is very easy and this has been fun to use. Very pleased with the quality of prints thus far, but please be advised, I am a hobbiest and this is my first venture in using an inkjet larger than a desktop and more than few basic ink colors.

I use this HP Inkjet paper on my Epson 9900. I needed something that was lightweight but could still hold color without bleeding all over the place; this product filled these need perfectly. I use it primarily to print architectural & engineering line-drawings that require color lines. It''s perfect for this because it is weight-wise similar to the 20# bond I use for B/W line drawings, but every line is crisp and clear. Its also very economical compared to some other wide-format media. I also use it for short-term ''throw-away'' banners, such as "Happy 40th Birthday Bob", but it is not limited to just lettering, sometimes I put a photo on it and for the purposes of having the banner for a specific indoor event, the image looks just fine. Since this paper is not very expensive, it is perfect for one-use occasions, as you don''t have to throw down a ton of money on a custom banner that you will only use for a few hours. This paper also lays very flat post-print (little to no curling).
