I got this printer in order to develop professional quality prints and presentations, which include graphics, photos, and charts. My trusty inkjet printer, while fantastic on photo paper, bled ever so slightly to make graphics on normal paper look sloppy to a discerning eye.

I researched for 3 days, scoured every website regarding color laserjets, before deciding on this printer. And let me say I was not overly excited about going with an HP service is notoriously iffy but the quality to price ratio beat out all the other lesser brands (at least in the sub-$1k price range)

The printer is expensive, and toner incredibly expensive as well. ($112 right now for the black standard capacity, and $225 for each of the 3 colors). It is true that the initial toner is 1/3 full, but they should last about 3,000 prints. A relative has the previous generation hp printer (the price of toner has not gone up), and he says that he bought one set of toner 3 years ago and they''re still working, 5-7,000+ prints later.

If you have high yield needs, I would recommend doing a price comparison on toners and how often they''ll need changing, but my need was much more quality based.

And the prints are fantastic. High resolution, good depth to color, no bleeding or smearing exactly what I needed. Photos look nice also (though I''ll still use the inkjet for photos on photo paper).

See the video to get a gauge on the print quality, time to print, and noise. Note that this is printed on standard, default quality. When it''s not printing it''s quite silent, although from sleep mode it does take 2+minutes to calibrate, clean, and be print-ready.

Pros:

Big and heavy (2 people recommended to lift, but not impossible for one)

HP can be tough to work with should problems arise

But, all the cons are more than manageable for me again due to my priority of high quality printing, so 5 stars.

I had the printer setup in my home office 8 feet or so away from where I work.

The Good.

1) Fast and excellent output

2) Easy to set up for networking. (Just follow the simply direction and it worked the first time)

3) Works well with OSx and MS

The Bad

1) Bit large and heavy (not too bad)

2) sounds like a VACUUM CLEANER when it turns on

3) the fan sound never seems to end even when it is in the sleep mode. (it does end eventually)

Conclusion.

If you don''t care about ambience then this printer may be good for you, but I would not have it any area where I spend a lot of time.

I''ve had the 3525 for over a month, an so far it''s been rock solid. I print lots of color presentations for customers, and it prints color faster than any printer I''ve purchased in the past. I''ve switched from a Lexmark, it was a very good printer, it just went through supplies (toner especially) too quickly. So far, this printer appears to be easier on supplies, and prints quality presentations.

We have been putting off purchasing a new color laser machine, because of the cost, and our legacy machine is so slow, we weren''t sure if there were any faster machines. We received this HP 3525 and it installed easily, quickly, configured easily to our network, and even downloads for Windows 7 driver(s) were easy to access and install. Overall, an excellent choice for a small office.

For the money, I am very happy thus far. Was trying to save more and buy a $300 one, but everyone I saw or tested seemed cheaply made. This one has some metal in it and is very solid. Doors open and shut without feeling like it was going to fall apart. Very small graphics do not print great and pictures seem to be darker. Maybe a setting I can change but did not see where. I updated the driver for both PCL 6 and the PS as the one it comes with was the original one and there were 10 updates or so since then. If I needed more graphic and brochures for business than what I plan it for..., I''d look to spend more money in HP or Xerox.

If you are thinking you just want to save money and buy the 2-300 one of HP or other..., I''d suggest spending a little more and going with this. I have bought about 10 HP printers over the years and every one that was under $300 seemed to under perform and not last. Every one over $600 I have been generally very happy with.

I ordered my Epson R2880 about a month ago from Amazon, as a replacement for my trusty old Epson 2000P which was about seven years old. My new printer arrived very promptly a few days later. The Vista software installation went smoothly except for the fact that a couple of the amber "ink-empty" lights did not work properly, one never came on and one was flickering, like on and off. (These little lights are located in the ink well, they all (should) come "on" upon printer startup, then go "off", one by one, as each ink cartridge is inserted into the well.) The first couple of prints I made were not good, but I soon discovered that with this printer use only Epson paper and be sure to select the particular type of paper on the screen before commencing printing. I then printed several color and B/W sample prints, examined them under a loupe, and I must say they were great. I was impressed with the quality.

Everything seems to run smoothly for the first week or so, although I noticed that the printer had a tendency to perform prolonged nozzle cleaning sessions. One session lasted between 6 and 7 minutes. That''s when I started to look at the ink levels charts. This printer is really using the ink I thought. I then noticed large random dots, about 3mm in diameter on some of my prints, sometimes only an hour after a new start-up nozzle cleaning session. My last printing endeavor on this printer just following a nozzle cleaning session were eight 4x4" images where these dots showed up on five prints, some were in the margins and some right on the image itself.

Calling Epson was quite an experience. The person told me to simply do a nozzle clean. I told him I had just done nozzle cleans, but he insisted and I did it. The first print out had the famous 3mm dots on the paper and the print. Do the nozzle clean again, he said. At this point I confronted him with the question of how much ink a nozzle clean required because my ink indicators showed a decrease in ink level of about 15% with each cleaning. He had no answer to that, or to any of my other questions, including the amber light question.

I was now out of ink and had a lot of unwanted dots on many of the prints I had made. At this point I knew I would never feel comfortable using a set of inks priced at about $125. and only wind up with a handful of usable images. I returned the printer as I was still within the 30 days grace period.

One last observation: It appears to me, after reading other reviews, that the ink/nozzle picotechnology is perhaps behind the curve of where it ought to be. In the quest for smaller and smaller picoliter dots, perhaps a different nozzle cleaning technology is required. At least, upscale future printers like this R2880 should have the ability to just clean one (1) color nozzle at a time, as user required, instead of necessarily cleaning all eight colors at a cost I figure to be about $18. to $20. per cleaning session.

I''ve been making due with an older Epson Photo EX...can''t believe how much the technology has improved since then. The printer is easy to operate, and colors are nothing short of amazing...fine, detailed prints like nothing I''ve ever been able to produce.

Drawbacks are probably what others mention...the matte black/photo black swapping thing is just silly, the ink cartridges are too small, at highest quality settings the printer''s a bit slow, no built-in network interface, and the printer''s physically a little on the large size.

Still, for me it''s all about the final image quality and nothing I''ve seen tops the Epson in this regard.

UPDATE:

Okay, so I''ve been living with my R2880 for about sixteen months now, and I wanted to refute some of the claims other reviewers have made. Perhaps I''m just one of the lucky ones, but my experience with the R2880 has been nothing short of fantastic.

I''ve printed well over 2000 prints and gone through dozens of ink cartridges by now, and I''m happy to say that I haven''t experienced EVEN A SINGLE JAM, MIS-FEED or other operational problem. I tend to use Epson''s Ultra-Premium Luster for 8x10 size prints, Epson Velvet or Exhibition Fiber in 13x19 and a few non-Epson brands including Museo, Ilford Silk and a few others. I''ve done a bit with canvas (both sheets and roll), though that''s relatively rare for me. The short story is that everything I''ve tried has worked properly. Overall, I couldn''t be happier with my printer.

I do use my printer fairly regularly always at least once or twice a week, usually more. As of now, except for the cycle when I install a new ink cartridge or initially power it on, I''ve never seen it waste ink on a cleaning cycle, nor have I ever had to manually trigger cleaning. My volume is high enough that I deal with the ink-swapping sillyness by simply waiting until I have enough material that I can use an entire print cartridge (about 50 prints, generally). I make the switch, print till I run out of matte ink, and then I switch back. This works for me, and doesn''t waste any ink.

My initial comment regarding the ink cartridges being too small is probably my number one gripe. Because the various color inks are used at different rates according to the tones in your photographs, it''s not like you stop every so often and replace all the ink. You print, replace one color, print some more, replace the next one, and so on. I just find this slows me down unacceptably, and I''d like the option to have maybe 3-5 times more ink per cartridge.

Print quality continues to be amazing...the only other printer I''ve seen that beats it is Epson''s newer 7900 a much larger printer that costs five times what the R2880 sells for. Yes, I''m a perfectionist with top quality gear, all the best software, calibration equipment, and I spend a lot of time fine tuning everything to get the best possible image quality. But I feel I''ve been rewarded for this work, and everyone who sees my prints comments as to the quality.

I am an artist who creates giclee prints of my paintings, and used an Epson Stylus Photo 2200 for six years. It was a reliable printer which gave me high quality prints. The Epson Stylus Photo 2200 worked great from day one, and I never had to speak with an Epson tech.

I purchased the Epson Stylus Photo R2880 as a replacement printer. It would not print 13" x 19" paper. I kept getting paper jams and error messages stating I was using the wrong media for the paper tray. I spent hours on the phone with Epson techs, who finally told me the printer had a defective paper sensor.

I returned the first Epson Stylus Photo R2880 and purchased a second printer. The second Epson Stylus Photo R2880 not only had the same problems, but it also gave me communication errors. I spent another hour on the phone with an Epson tech who refused to call me back as my calling card ran out of minutes.

In my opinion Epson has inadequate service techs, poor customer service, and a poor quality product in the Epson Stylus Photo R2880. I believe this printer was never tested in a rush to get it to market. The only reason it even deserves one star is because it prints 8.5" x 11" sheets. Because my need is for a printer that prints 13" x 19" sheets, I cannot recommend this printer.

PS. Does anybody know where I can get a refurbished Epson Stylus Photo 2200?

I bought this printer mainly because of additional feature of the CD/DVD direct printing, as my Epson R2400 does not have this capability. After completion of installation of the software, ink, etc., the printer went into what seemed like an extended cleaning mode. After printing one 7x5 image, the printed showed the photo black ink approximately one-quarter left. The rest of the ink levels had dropped to almost one-half level. Two days later, I turned on the printer and the printer seemed to kick into another cleaning cycle, and an extended one at that! After the printer was in the cleaning cycle for approximately four minutes, I noticed the printer icon bouncing in the dock at the bottom of the computer screen. When I opened the software, it showed me that the photo black ink was completely consumed and the printer wanted it replaced. I replaced the photo black ink and after approximately two more minutes of printer moving the head left and right, I was able to print. After printing a grand total of eight 7x5 images, the rest of the inks were totally out! At this point, I made arrangements to have the printer replaced. Well, I got the new printer and unfortunately, it has behaved the same as the first one. The only difference being that all of the inks went down almost even as opposed to the photo black ink going down first. After a total of two print sessions, all of the inks were consumed by the printer. For the whole set of inks, I managed to print ONLY TWO 2.5 inch x 1.4 inch size images! Actually, I had to replace the light light black ink along the way. I searched the internet and found no complaints with this device. I have no idea what is going on. All I can say is that this is not the case of user error as I have been using inkjet printers for a while (Canon S800, Epson 1270, Epson 2200, and Epson 2400).

I had an Epson 2200. I loved it. I upgraded to this. I hate it in every way.

You have to swap out the ink from matte to glossy if you change paper types. It insists you do. There is no way around it (There was on the 2200). This means that every time I print on a DVD, I have to switch the ink. To do so, the printer primes itself and literally takes 7-10% of the ink to do it. Then to switch it back there goes another 7%. I have gone through so much ink I can hardly stand to look at it.

Sorry Epson, but the jig is up. This swapping ink system is a scam.

Just for kicks, here is the final straw that triggered this review:

I had just printed a glossy b&W print. Then I needed to print a CD so I switched out the photo-black to the matte-black like a little monkey. As the printer primed the inks, it literally ran itself out the last 10% of both magenta and light cyan. Now I can''t print. I have to go to the store and buy more colored ink. Of course this is NUTS since I was only doing black and white prints.

We weren''t so lucky. This printer did not work out of the box. In our business, we have four older Brother printers and several competent IT people. Not only that, we read directions so we know we assembled and connected everything correctly. The connected printer did a great job of feeding blank pages but printed nothing. After trying the unit on multiple computers we called Brother support. Short version they told us we were stupid and accused us of lying. They made us send them the toner cartridge that came with the printer and insisted that we buy a new cartridge. The new cartridge didn''t work either no surprise there. They made us send them the new cartridge so they could confirm that we had not purchased off brand. They did send a free cartridge to replace it with the assurance that once we installed it and sent them a test page, it would prove that we had actually printed thousands of pages and used up the toner. Sadly, there is no test page because the third cartridge didn''t work. Almost 60 days later, we have not printed a single page on this piece of junk and Brother is no longer returning our calls.

The worst part is that we let the one week return window pass based on the false assumption that Brother would back up their product. We wanted a working printer, not a return merchandise credit. Live and learn I suppose. I have started the process of decommissioning the rest of our Brother devices so they do not get another penny in the way of toner cartridge purchases from our business.

My advice to anyone considering any item from Brother if you decide to purchase after reading my review and the new items arrives non functional, pack it up and ship it back IMMEDIATELY. Return windows are short and Brother seems to have modeled their customer support division after Monty Python''s "Abuse Clinic." No one should have to go there.

This is a replacement for my six-year-old Samsung ML-1740 (USB port problem, not mechanical). OK, so the Brother

does look cheap, but it does the job well. First of all, the 2240D is much, much, much quieter than my old

Samsung. The Amazon reviews did have me concerned about the 2240D''s noise level, but this is a huge improvement

over what I used to suffer! It really isn''t horribly noisy and the fan shuts off after a few minutes.

Print quality is good and is more than adequate for my needs (I''ve actually set it to 300dpi and Toner Saver mode,

and text is still perfectly readable).

The HL2240D also works great with my existing NetGear PS121 USB print server (why shell out extra for a network-

ready printer if you already have a print server?). A tip for those intending to use this printer with an

external print server the Windows driver is located on the CD under \install\driver\gdi (so select "have disk"

when asked for the printer driver during the add printer process don''t try to pre-install the driver).

Oh, and the 2240 does have a power switch (some reports indicate that it doesn''t). It''s located on the right

hand side at the back by the power connector.

When deciding which new printer to buy, I considered those with separate toner and drum kits(HL2240D), and those with combined (e.g. Sumsung ML-1915). After six years of use my old Samsung has printed 10,300 pages. The HL2240D''s drum requires replacing after 12,000 pages. Therefore I know it will be quite some time before I need to buy a new drum! Also, I tried refilling the toner in my old Samsung''s combined cartridge, but the integrated drum would wear out long before the the refilled toner had been used up. So perhaps separate toner and drum units are more suited to toner refills.

If you are looking for a nearly no-frills (auto-duplex is definitely a frill!) laser, and built in networking is

not one of your requirements then the HL2240D is a great choice! Note: Check to see if the HL2270DW (faster and has networking) is cheaper, which is the case at the time of me writing this.

I researched laser printers when the local office supply chain store had a Samsung laser for $49.99, single sided non-duplex unit.

A few years back, I had an issue with a Samsung camera where the door on the batter compartment had a "cold set" and cracked so that the door bulged out and the batteries would not make an electrical connection. Contacted Samsung and customer service immediately accused me of dropping the camera. I assured him that the camera had not been dropped and it was 3 weeks old. Also that I worked in manufacturing and engineering (20+ years) and have seen this type of defect before and it was a bad injection molded part. The customer service rep raised his voice, practically yelling, and repeated that I had dropped it and a mechanical defect not covered due to customer abuse! If I didn''t like that to take it back to the store purchased. I DID! To make a long story short, I haven''t bought Samsung since! And never will!!!

During my research I found that Brother had an excellent reputation in customer service, so I started looking into Brother laser printers. When I found the duplex was on sale for $79.95 at a local electronics dealer, I took the ad to another office supply super store which matches the price and a additional 10% off, which covered the sales tax. I did have to wait 2 days for the item to be delivered from the warehouse to the store, but it was worth the wait.

So far, I have printed on-line coupons with barcodes which were a bit fuzzy, but that could be the image from the retailer''s website. Also printed a double sided report for my daughter and that was of good quality more of what I expected.

The only complaint, but this goes for most laser printers, is that the switch is in the back (on right side). I would have liked the switch on the front, like the Kodak printer we have. I love the Kodak printer for pics; have photos that are 5 years old and have never faded (unlike some of my friends who use other inkjet printers).

I bought this printer because my children are getting older and writing more reports using up the ink in the Kodak printer, not that it was expensive, but wanted more economical printing; which a laser printer provides.

Also found that genuine Brother toner cartidges cost about $20 less than genunie Samsung. Generic knock-off cartridges run about the same. Toner refill kits are less expensive for Brother because there is no "chip" that has to be replaced on the cartridge, but there is a tool that one refill kit has to reset the "toner used gear". At my work they purchase remanfactured cartridges and the vendor does not always replace the "chip" so the printer constantly says "used cartridger installed". What a pain in the you know where! (The IT guys figured out how to make the computer ignore the "used cartidge" message.)

HINT: When toner is running low, remove cartridge and shake well, then replace cartridge. You can do this several times and use up the last of the toner and get good copies.

UPDATE 7 Feb 2012: Finally after 6 months the start cartridge stopped printing. Print quality was good until printer just refused to print anymore (there was still toner left inside cartridge--read another hint below). I had purchased a two pack of generic replacement cartridges 4 months ago when low toner warning came up on computer. I installed the cartridge and prints as good as genuine cartridge. FYI ASIN: B0050NNUH2. The shipping is free and worked out to be $17 each when I purchased them but they are now $15.50 each (or $31 for both). I am expecting the high capacity cartridge to last a year or more, so I will not be buying toner soon. (High capacity cartridge is rated for 2600 copies at 5% converage.)

Currently you can buy a single cartridge for around $12 with super saver shipping, but I did not have anything else to buy at the time and shipping was almost $9 or $21 total, so I bought the two pack with free shipping instead. If you can make the $25 the single cartridge is the better deal.

ANOTHER HINT. DO NOT THROW AWAY and SAVE the protective guard and box replacement cartridge comes in. Install the replacement cartridge in printer. Put shipping guard on starter cartrige and put in toner box. Wait for a couple of days then remove the replacment cartridge and put the starter cartridge back in the printer. Printer thinks you put a "new starter cartridge" in and you can use up the remaining toner in the cartridge. Do not forget to shake up the cartridge and to clean the wire with the green slide.

When the toner is completely gone, you can convert or change the original starter cartridge into a "TN-450" high capacity cartridge with refil kit ASIN: B004WSO73W from AAA Toner for around $16.

The printer is great! Duplex is awesome! It also holds a lot of paper, prints in very high resolution, and prints very quickly.

Also, keep in mind that this printer is USB only, and not network. If you want it to be on a network, there are adapters you can buy which will accept the USB cable and connect it to a network hub, bringing it into your home network. The one I''m using is an old little box called Airlink. I''m sure there are many more out on the market nowadays.

For Mac Users:

The driver for this printer is already installed on your Mac. Just plug the printer in and go into printer settings -> options -> driver, then from the menu select the Brother HL-2240D series CUP driver. Also, it was confusing for me to first figure out how to print duplex. When you File->Print from something such as Word, go into the drop down menu and select Layout. Then you can enable two-sided printing.

Epson Smooth Matte Fine Art Paper Save 22% off

PLEASE NOTE: This review is appearing under product "Epson Smooth Matte Fine Art Paper". Although Epson makes a paper called "Ultrasmooth Fine Art Paper", there is no current Epson product listed with the name Amazon shows. The product number on the Amazon listed product is the same as that for "Hot Press Natural", therefore, my review is for Hot Press Natural. (Is that confusing enough?)

This is a lovely matte finish paper. After years of preferring smooth glossy photo papers, I now find myself in awe of what a really good matte finish inkjet paper can do for an image. I experimented with a number of fine art matte papers recently and the Epson Hot Press Natural was at the top of the list of my favorites. HPN does just about everything well. For monochrome photos, it reproduces blacks with a velvety smoothness that is so rich you can taste it. The paper color is a natural, creamy white, something I much prefer to the glare of most bright white papers. The paper is thicker than the average but feeds well through the front manual load tray of my Epson R3000. Epson''s downloaded profiles do a great job when printing in color and Epson''s Advanced B&W set-up works well with monochrome. This is a 100% cotton rag paper, billed as being acid-free and pH buffered. Epson says on the package that it has no optical brighteners. These are all Good Things.

Is there anything about this paper I do not like? Not really. The surface is billed as "smooth" but it does have a slight texture. It''s not a distracting texture--it''s hard to see it unless you angle the paper and catch the light just right. It doesn''t appear to detract from the images I''ve printed, still I would prefer the finish to be a little smoother. The surface has been noted by others to be somewhat fragile, scratching easily. I''m careful with the paper after printing. I allow it to dry at least 24 hours and then coat the prints with PremierArt Print Shield lacquer spray. Following this procedure, I''ve had no difficulties with scratched prints so far. The only real complaint I have about HPN is that Epson doesn''t sell it in 11x17 inch sheets. My preferred normal print size is 11x14 or 11x17 and these sizes are not available. There are other good papers available in these sizes--I''ve been pleased with Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Ultra Smooth, Canson Infinity Rag Photographique and Museo Portfolio Rag. All these papers would serve well in place of HPN although I still like the HPN best of those I''ve tried. Of course, there are numerous other papers I have yet to sample that are billed as "fine art" matte. I have an open mind and a willingness to experiment with other papers. As of right now, HPN is the overall winner.

All in all, I recommend giving HPN a try if you are interested in trying matte inkjet paper for your work.

I just bought the Epson Artisan 800, which I will review shortly. I have not made up my mind as to whether I will keep it or not. I have gone with Epson for years and the quality of inks is unsurpassed in the industry. I usually print 8x10 prints. In testing the printer there were several software glitches that made it print more prints than I told it to.

The ink works stellar on Costco premium photo paper that I personally like more than Epson. It is cheaper and dries faster and looks as good. This ink produces professional quality prints. Epson has done it again.

Nonetheless,it is immaterial what these lab test claim. What matters is what happens in real life. I am not going to make a print that is draft quality which is what alot of these tests do. I am making fine art photos.

Here is the glitch...I printed 5 8x10''s and 3 4x6 with margins. My light cyan is 2/3rd''s gone. The high capacity black is 1/3 gone and light magenta is 1/2 gone. That is roughly $15 Epson prices or a little under $3/ print. Costco for an 8x10 is $1.79 and 11 1/2x 14 is $2.79 The Epson eats ink like candy. I suspect that the prices for prints are much cheaper commercially.Obviously custom prints are going to be higher. So it comes down to convience and creative control. When the cost is almost 2x what a commercial lab charges, it may not be worth it.

Price: Amazon beats Epson by $3 on the 5 pack and if you have super saver then it is money in your pocket. Epson beats Amazon by $4 on the black and if you buy 3 or more inks there is free overnight shipping. Interestingly the high capacity black which they sell the most of is $2 more than the other colors.....go figure.

Caveat emptorEpson was found to have made the electronics on it''s printer cartriges reflect empty cartridges when they were not empty so buyers would have to buy more ink cartriges. We all know Epson makes money selling ink. Printers do not make big bucks, ink does.I received a bunch of coupons that supposedly I could enter the numbers into their website and get free ink. The number never worked, ergo no free ink.

So that is the ink story. I think I am going to check out the Canon all in ones before I decide to keep this Epson. The last I saw Canon had come way up in quality and the inks are cheaper.

This Epson 99 Color Multipack is quite a bargain, when you need replacement ink cartridges for your Epson Artisan 700 or 800 model printer. This multipack includes all 5 standard capacity color cartridges (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Light Cyan, and Light Magenta), but does NOT include a black cartridge. Purchasing the multipack will usually save you anywhere from $5 to $10, over buying the cartridges individually, depending on where you buy it from. If you need a replacement black cartridge, you will need to order the #98 Black separately.

All of the cartridges in this multipack are the Epson #99 standard capacity type, which are claimed to yield approximately 500 pages each, based on the ISO/IEC 24711 and 24712 standard for ink jet products. Of course the page count will vary, depending on the amount of ink coverage of each particular color you use on each given page. In comparison, the #98 high capacity color ink cartridges are claimed to yield approx. 855 pages per color, based on the same ISO test standards. Black is only available in #98 high capacity, which is rated at about 545 pages (it is assumed that more black ink is used per page than color ink). This Epson 99 Color Multipack, as well as the #98 black cartridges are available at most online and local retailers. But as of this review date, the #98 high capacity color cartridges are only available for purchase directly from the Epson website.

The Claria ink in these cartridges is boasted to produce photos with unsurpassed richness, depth and clarity, and is also smudge, scratch, water and fade resistant. Epson claims that this ink, when used in combination with Epson Premium Photo Paper, produces better quality photos than you can get from a photo lab. As for my personal experience, I have found this ink to indeed produce very rich and vivid color photos, which look at least as good as I can get from a local photo lab. What amazes me is how quickly this ink dries, when used on Epson Premium photo paper. After the photos print, at the highest print quality settings on my Artisan 800, I can touch the printed side of the paper within 15 to 20 seconds without smudging. Within 2 to 3 minutes the ink has dried enough for normal handling. In comparison, when I print at highest quality settings on my HP OfficeJet 7310, using HP Premium Plus photo paper and HP Vivera ink, I have to wait at least 15 to 20 minutes before I can even touch the printed side of the photos, and a couple of hours before the photos can be handled without extra caution. I have also tested the water resistant claims of the Epson Claria ink, and do find that it is resistant to slight amounts of moisture. Please note the words "resistant" and "slight" in that last sentence. If a small drop of water comes in contact with the printed Claria ink, and is allowed to dry without touching or smearing it, the photo will show little to no signs of discoloration or damage to the image. However, if any part of the image becomes saturated with water, or if the drop(s) of water are smeared in any way, you can definitely see signs of discoloration and/or color smudging/smearing. When I tested my HP Vivera ink in the same manner, even the slightest amount of moisture introduced to the prints would cause obvious damage to the images. Therefore I can personally back the claim that the Epson Claria ink, as used in the #99 cartridges, is modestly water resistant. The claim of scratch resistance is also true, unless a very sharp or pointed object is dragged across the print. So for normal everyday handling, this Claria ink seems to stand up to a moderate amount of abuse without the photo being ruined. I do not have the means to test the fade resistance claims, so I guess I have to take Epson at its word in this area.

Another thing I would like to point out, regarding my previous experience with Epson Claria inks, is that it does not tend to dry up and clog the print heads nearly as easily as I have experienced with the HP Vivera ink. I have an Epson Stylus Photo R380 Inkjet Printer, which uses Claria ink cartridges, and I can let the printer sit, unused, for several weeks, and still get perfect printing results without having the run a cleaning cycle on the printer. This makes me believe that the Claria ink cartridges will remain good, when left in the printer for extended periods of time. It also shows that Epson has designed a good method of sealing the print heads very well when in the parked position.

I am extremely impressed with the #99 Claria ink cartridges, and find this Epson 99 Color Multipack to be a great bargain. At the time of this review, this multipack provides all 5 main color cartridges for less than $10 each, here on Amazon.com. To me this is a very good price for such high quality ink. I highly recommend this multipack to anyone who owns or is purchasing an Epson Artisan 700 or 800 model printer. The Artisan series printers are great products (see my review of the Epson Artisan 800 Wireless Photo All-in-One Printer), and this Claria ink, when used with Epson Premium photo paper, is the perfect companion for these amazing printers.

I read the reviews concerning the Epson ink cartridges, specifically for the Artisan 700/800 series. Amazon''s current price for the color 5-pack is indeed among the best prices I''ve seen for that 5-pack. However, consider this: The Epson website sells the 5 "high capacity" cartridges for 1.77 times the price of Amazon''s regular-capacity 5-pack. The ISO yield ratio for the high versus regular capacity cartridges is 850/500 = 1.71, very close to the above price ratio of 1.77. Thus, you pay about the same price per unit of ink either way, but if you go with the high-capacity cartridges, you will not have to replenish nearly as frequently. As prices change, this argument may not remain valid, of course.

I was setting up my brothers new HP Premium Printer and the HP tech told me to make sure I match and use HP photo paper with the HP printer. He said that the HP ink this printer used is specially made to match HP photo paper. He said that if your HP printer prints on Epson paper it will look awful. That''s funny, I thought, since I had just Purchased an Epson Artisan 700 Printer recently and I was extremely disappointed in how bad the ink looked on the HP paper I was using. This is a lovely matte finish paper. After years of preferring smooth glossy photo papers, I now find myself in awe of what a really good matte finish inkjet paper can do for an image. I experimented with a number of fine art matte papers recently and the Epson Hot Press Natural was at the top of the list of my favorites. HPN does just about everything well. For monochrome photos, it reproduces blacks with a velvety smoothness that is so rich you can taste it. The paper color is a natural, creamy white, something I much prefer to the glare of most bright white papers. The paper is thicker than the average but feeds well through the front manual load tray of my Epson R3000. Epson''s downloaded profiles do a great job when printing in color and Epson''s Advanced B&W set-up works well with monochrome. This is a 100% cotton rag paper, billed as being acid-free and pH buffered. Epson says on the package that it has no optical brighteners. These are all Good Things.

Is there anything about this paper I do not like? Not really. The surface is billed as "smooth" but it does have a slight texture. It''s not a distracting texture--it''s hard to see it unless you angle the paper and catch the light just right. It doesn''t appear to detract from the images I''ve printed, still I would prefer the finish to be a little smoother. The surface has been noted by others to be somewhat fragile, scratching easily. I''m careful with the paper after printing. I allow it to dry at least 24 hours and then coat the prints with PremierArt Print Shield lacquer spray. Following this procedure, I''ve had no difficulties with scratched prints so far. The only real complaint I have about HPN is that Epson doesn''t sell it in 11x17 inch sheets. My preferred normal print size is 11x14 or 11x17 and these sizes are not available. There are other good papers available in these sizes--I''ve been pleased with Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Ultra Smooth, Canson Infinity Rag Photographique and Museo Portfolio Rag. All these papers would serve well in place of HPN although I still like the HPN best of those I''ve tried. Of course, there are numerous other papers I have yet to sample that are billed as "fine art" matte. I have an open mind and a willingness to experiment with other papers. As of right now, HPN is the overall winner.

All in all, I recommend giving HPN a try if you are interested in trying matte inkjet paper for your work.

I run a home office and am a heavy user of printing, scanning, faxing and copying. This unit replaced an old copier and an older printer/fax.

Installation gave me error messages. My system does have a lot of software and drivers on a WinXP Pro SP2 operating system. I was able to manually get the drivers installed. No, I didn''t have the patience to call Brother.

Function in all modalities is superb. Text print quality and speed are excellent. Graphics are good.

Copying and fax work like a charm, both sheetfed and flatbed.

This is the best MFC out there -no question. It scans at lightening speeds with the automatic sheet feeder. The printer prints very fast too at 21 ppm. Terrific controls, with multi-line display. This machine is built to last. I spent several months comparing all of the MFCs out there. I really needed a good scanner with a sheet feeder, but wanted to have the flexibility of a flat bed (for things that won''t feed through a scanner. This unit does it all. Brother is definitely leading the way with this one!

I must say that I''m quite pleased with this multifunction machine, which I bought when my ancient, single-function inkjet finally threw in the towel recently. I read reviews of about 50 multifunction machines in the major PC mags and sites before settling on this one. I wanted all four features (copy, scan, print, fax) in a reliable machine for the lowest price, and this was the professionals'' consensus. I have the factory-remanufactured version, also available from Amazon for over $100 less -those are just fine, and after the rebate, the price is irresistible.

On major benefit of this model is the flatbed, which allows you to copy and scan anything, not just standard letteror legal-sized pages (in other words, only things that will go through a document feeder). The laser printer is sharp and fast; I''ve had no jams. Remember to "fan" new reams of paper as a standard practice; static electricity is the most common, and avoidable, cause of paper jams. The copy/fax quality i fine. Some people say that the scanning is a little weak, but unless you need truly professional-quality graphics, it''s quite adequate for casual use.

I''ve knocked off 3/4 of a star for the setup. Actually, it''s not that bad, but you are going to need to actually read certain portions of the full manual; you probably won''t get away with just the Quick Setup Guide. Setting up the fax to work with a connected answering machine was, honestly, moderately complex. I had to read that *entire* section in the manual (BTW, you''ll find what you need on pages 1-13 to 1-22). Once I read it, though, it did tell me exactly what I needed to know, and exactly what I needed to change about my setup. You *MUST* connect the answering machine to the MFC-8440; you can''t connect it to another phone jack somewhere else in your house. Also, you''ll probably need to decrease the number of rings on your phone, and you may need to include a 3-5 second pause at the beginning of your outgoing message.

It''s worth your time to look up whatever you''re trying to do in the manual, rather than just guessing. Try to resist the initial reaction of that being a "bad thing" -a (good) manual actually benefits you. For example, there are quite a few optional settings that I find very beneficial and convenient, but you might never notice them if you don''t actually take the 10 minutes to really *read* Chapter 4. I''m a technical writer and very critical of documentation, and I have to admit that this manual is very clearly written, and rather well done overall.

For the sake of honesty, I must also tell you that Brother MFCs do sometimes take a bit more than their fair share of power (on startup only); I''ve docked them the last quarter-star for that. As I expected from reading reviews, my bedroom lights *do* flicker very briefly when a print job first starts up. Although it only lasts a half-second, it can be a little weird.

A few last tips: Do turn on the sleep mode to conserve energy and preserve the life of the scanner lamp. Do visit the Brother website immediately after setup, and periodically thereafter, for driver updates. And finally...how it hurts my penny-pinching heart to say this...buy original Brother toner cartridges. Factory-remanufactured is probably okay, but definitely no refilled ones. I have just read *too* many reviews that talk about the accidents that can happen with those. Even a small leak of toner inside the machine can ruin it. And although (new) "compatible" cartridges might not leak, pray that nothing ever goes wrong, because using them voids your warranty. If you do some smart comparison shopping, buying new, original cartridges isn''t too bad, especially if it extends the life of a major piece of equipment like this. Like so many other things these days -like books and music -you''ll pay way too much if you buy them in a retail store. Look for online sales, and check Amazon Marketplace or many of the other auction sites.

I use this machine on a wireless home network including one Windows ME HP desktop (I know, yuck; I''ll replace it when the hard drive dies) and one good Windows XP Compaq laptop. I have no trouble printing from either, and I have no interference on my phone; I have only one DSL line in the entire house. I''m sure this machine could support a home business, and probably a very small office; it is a glorious luxury for regular home use, which is my lot. Overall, I''m delighted with my EMFC-8440 and feel good about the purchase. I would definitely recommend it to you.

I''ve only had this unit for several days but am greatly impressed with the sophistication of this machine.

I''ve already added the extra tray and increased the on-board memory to the max. Every day I discover some additional feature that I didn''t know that I had. If you buy this machine, shop for those add-ons.

The only fault that I can find is that you can''t select the 2nd tray from the machine unless you''re printing copies. You need to go to your Windows control panel and select the printer to change your preference to the second tray if you use that tray for printing checks, etc.

A feature that I really like is the "sleep" feature. I have mine set for 5 minutes and the machine powers down to save energy.

Based on feedback from other owners and my personal experience, this is a terrific bargain.

I recently purchased the Brother MFC 8440 for my busy medical practice. This was my first Brother purchase. I was previously a loyal HP user. I had heard such good things about this multifunction device before buying it. I can now say they are ALL true.

The machine works like a charm. I networked the printer through a print server and it works great. Documents print quickly and look sharp too. Copies have great resolution and are produced quickly as well. Faxes are a breeze. I''ve even used the sheet feed document scanner and it works unbelievably well on black and white text documents. In fact, the Brother MFC saved me from buying a separate sheet fed document scanner. I had my whole office set-up through CompUSA''s business service and they had no problems with the installation.

All in all, this is an incredible, indespensible office machine. I would give it 6 stars if it were possible. Believe the hype on this product. It legitmately copies, faxes, prints, and scans as well as any other comparably priced single function product. I can''t imagine anyone not liking this product.

After 1 year of use, this machine is still working great. We have had zero mechanical or software problems with this machine. We are averaging about 5,000 10,000 pages of printing per month. When and if it dies, I will definitely buy another.

My HP DeskJet 870cxi died last month, and I replaced it with the Photosmart 1115, which I wanted to use with a Dell desktop (XP Pro) and an Apple iBook (OS 10.2.1).

The only nice thing I can say about this printer is that it prints beautiful photos on photo paper. Printing anything else is a lesson in frustration.

Printing a color web page with this printer is SLOW...it seems much slower than my old DeskJet. Second, I get frequent paper jams when printing on plain paper, and especially when printing envelopes. The printer jams when printing photos on 6 x 4.5" photo paper that came with it. When I print documents on plain paper, I also occasionally get these cryptic error codes, and my document stops printing halfway through the job, leaving the paper stuck in the printer.

The printer also comes with a CompactFlash and SD readers built in. It''s pretty cool to insert a Compact Flash or Secure Digital card from a digital camera and print an index sheet right from the printer. However, my XP desktop won''t recognize the cards from the printer. It says that there is no card inserted. Frequent e-mails to HP tech support have not been helpful they say the card is faulty (it works fine in my camera and my Lexar card reader, however).

Mac support is suprisingly lousy, because HP has been pretty good to the Mac in the past. I had to wait a month until HP released drivers for Mac OS 10.2.1 (Jaguar). The Mac drivers have the same problem the XP ones do: I can only print with the drivers; reading CF & SD cards with the printer doesn''t work.

I have had many HP printers in the past and have had no problems with them. I think HP struck out with this dud.

I have used this printer for the last two years, though it has not been heavily used. It has completely broken down, will not acknowledge that it has paper, and the "carriage" is broken. It will not feed anything through and constantly has paper jams. I have been told by repair specialists that it will cost several hundred dollars to fix it because the "carriage" is so expensive. Though it does print beautiful photos, I am very disappointed with this product''s performance over time!

When using photo paper you cannot see any pixelation! It''s like having your own printing lab.

Unlike my many epson printers in the past, there is also no degradation in quality over time (8 mths.)

The one problem I had was that the printing unit inside was stuck when it arrived. It made an awful grinding sound when it tried to start up, so I had to call support (not toll free!!). They explained that I had to apply pressure to a certain area to free the unit. It was all a bit stressful and it eventually worked and I have had no problems since.

The ink cartridges seem to last way longer than my epson ones did in the past. Just recently changed both (8 mths) with fairly regular use. I probably printed 50+ 4x6 glossies.

I have not seen or tried any of the newer epsons, they may be be comparable in all respects. I have my doubts though.

...it worked flawlessly on my XP OS.

Brother has decided to start including an optical toner level checker in their printers. It is much to sensitive (incompetence or geed, you decide). At some point you''ll print a page out of your printer, it will look perfect, then the printer will refuse to go on because it is out of toner or has low toner. This is a good time to go ahead and buy your replacement; however, you''ve still got a couple hundred good pages and a couple hundred so-so pages in your current cartridge...

Turn your printer off

Open the front

Pull the cartridge / drum out

Eject the cartridge from the drum (tab on the side)

Look on the edge of the cartridge without drive gears and find the clear plastic grommet eye thing

Confirm you''ve got the right one by finding a match for it on the drive side

Go back to the non-drive side (b/c it is easier to get to) and black it out (marker / electric tape)

Put everything back together

Turn on printer

Print, FTW.

The printer "looks" through the cartridge waiting for the toner to drop under the level of the eyes at which point it refuses to print despite being able to do hundreds more perfect pages. By blacking out one of the eyes you fool it into being always full. You''ll just have to recognize the drop in print quality that''s significant enough to make you change cartridges.

As for this cartridge, I''ve got no idea if it is any good or not because, I''m still using my DIY faked cartridge.

I am writing to ask anyone in this forum if they have problems printing with this unit. I have owned mine as a "hand-me-down" from a family friend who bought this unit new, then downsized their business to work from home and just didn''t need it anymore. It worked great every day. I have had the same toner in since 2010 with this one showing no signs of running out yet.

Then, suddenly there were several Windows 7 updates came through, the printer stopped working. I''ve tried downloading drivers, called tech support to get no help because the printer is not in their database-so they say. I tried to revert back in time on the computer to prior to the updates without success.

Tech support tells me that I need to get the drivers from Windows. Every time I try to download the drivers, they are not recognized. I''m in a terrible spot.

Does anyone have any suggestions to get this sweet lady working again?

Powers on fine. Then does nothing.

This printer is for the home office with tons or printing. I am saving a boat load of ink by having this second printer in the home. After 14 years, our printer gave out. Since I figured it would cost at least 80 bucks for the printer guy to just look at it, we bought this refurbished model. It is the same model as our old one, which I loved. So far, it has printed several reams of paper with absolutely no problems.

This is a good machine if purchased new. I have had one for years. It has over 500K prints under its belt and is still going strong at my office. Hence the five stars for the product. I purchased the used one for home since the new printers just don''t seem to hold up very well. The seller (santechusa) sent me three separate machines. The first one had some loose parts in it that the seller believes were due to the shipping. Since the box was not damaged and the packing was extensive and tight, I seriously doubt the shipper damaged the printer. I offered to take the first printer to the business machine service I use and deduct the cost of repair from the purchase price, but they just wanted it returned to them which is what happened. The second printer they sent produced a loud clicking noise with each print. The seller thought it might be the tray and sent another try which did not cure the problem. The third printer seems to be working okay, at least thus far. I would give this seller a five star rating for packaging and shipping. I must give this seller a one star rating for its failure to fully inspect the printers before they are shipped. Please note this is not a network printer. You''ll need a network card. Also, the RAM is not sufficient for printing large documents. You have to purchase additional RAM. I did both.

Once I got the printer to work, it output very fine prints and color printing is the best I''ve seen in this price point color laser. Regular paper and laser labels feed just fine and fast. Labels are a bit cocked by about a millimeter, but I''m still learning how to tweak this one.

The problem was with a windows setting. A check box for "enable bidirectional support" on the ports tab in the printer properties was preventing jobs from being sent to the printer leaving them in the queue indefinitely. Once I unchecked this box all was fine. I was unable to find a reference to this anywhere even after 5 hours of dedicated internet searching. A call to the Konica-Minolta support number got me stuck on hold a half hour until I gave up. In short, I feel sort of on my own with this one, but as I get more familiar with the machine I hope things will go more smoothly.

This printer is really fast, the color is great and the printing is great quality. I use it both for colored and black and white works great on both. You can tell from just hearing the machine run that it is real quality . Finally a printer I am happy with.

I use this printer exclusively for printing photos. It does a great job, and at first I thought used a lot of toner. Not really, it was just getting the toner properly activated that appeared to use 25% right away. Now, it barely changes the toner levels after a printing session of 100% coverage for photos.

It is rated as 2400x600, but quality isn''t better than any quality laser out there. But, the toner cartridges are easily refilled and toner refills are in the $100 range for a full set of 4 toners.

The one negative is that the use of single feed paper is very noisy and the sensor for manual feed is quite a way inside the printer opening (maybe 3"). Using legal size paper often isn''t pulled in squarely. Care must be taken to insure good manual feeds.

It prints 65# card stock well, and handles it well in the duplexer also. The duplexer is noisy, but who cares for the price.

I often use 65# paper since it matches well with photo paper in my work. The printer pulls this paper from the internal tray well, and I have had no misfeeds. I have had it a month now and have only the complaints mentioned above, and I consider them all minor.

First, all in all, I really like this printer. For its price, the quality is quite nice. I also own the similarly priced HP Photosmart Premium Wireless e-All-in-One printer, which makes it easier for me to explain what I do and don''t like about this Canon.

Let''s get print quality out of the way first...to me, most color printers in this price range are perfectly acceptable, and the Canon MX432 fits right in with the rest. For day-to-day printing of documents and photos, this meets my needs. If you are looking for top-of-the-line print quality, you probably are not even reading reviews of low-cost multifunction printers.

Set up: this went very smoothly. The "quick start" guide got me up and running. I used the WPS wireless setup feature which was as simple as pushing a button on my router and my printer and waiting for them to discover each other (my router supports WPS...no big deal if yours doesn''t, it will just take a couple extra setup steps to get it working with your network...and of course, USB will work fine too). What I really like about the setup is that it never required a USB connection. Once the printer was on my wireless network, the rest of the setup took place wirelessly. (One exception: AirPrint...see below)

Printing on different media: My HP multifunction printer has separate feeds for photo paper and letter-size paper, meaning I don''t have to switch back and forth. The Canon, on the other hand, has no such convenience. Not a big deal, but a minor inconvenience if you plan to switch back and forth frequently.

Scanning: I LOVE the Canon''s automatic document feed tray for scanning multiple pages. I tested it out and it worked great. Put in a few pages, start the scanning, and a multi-page pdf is automatically generated and saved on my computer. I expect I''ll get a lot of use out of this. By contrast, my HP only scans one page at a time.

Noise: I found printing on the Canon to be peacefully quiet...quieter than the HP. On the other hand, each time I press a button on the Canon''s control panel, I get a loud "BEEP!" I fumbled through the controls to try to figure out how to silence this, but I haven''t figured it out yet. Time to check the manual.

AirPrint: This was my one big frustration with the Canon, and the sole reason for docking it one star. First, understand what AirPrint is...it allows most newer iOS devices to automatically print to the printer wirelessly...no special app needed. When I got my HP, the process was seamless! I set up the printer for my network, and AirPrint functionality just took care of itself: open an e-mail on my iPhone, go to print it, and voila! There was my HP printer. Now, if you read Amazon''s product description for the Canon, you will see that it boasts of the same AirPrint functionality. But be sure to read the fine print! It says that you may need to first update the firmware on the Canon so that it can work with AirPrint. How do you do the updating? Well, my first guess was to check the pdf manual that gets installed with my printer. But there''s no mention of updating firmware, and there''s no mention of AirPrint! So, I went to Canon''s support site, found details there, and downloaded the firmware update. But THEN I found that the firmware could only be updated using a USB cable. So, even though I was pleased that I could set up my Canon without needing a cable, I couldn''t get AirPrint to work until I did an update that required the cable.

To be fair: Once the firmware update was completed, AirPrint worked just as well as on my HP. And the USB cable is ONLY needed until the firmware update is complete...you don''t need to keep it tethered to your computer. Also, I assume that if you wait long enough to buy this printer, Canon will probably be updating the firmware before you buy it (if they DON''T, then hopefully they will include clear steps on how to do it yourself). However, if you are expecting AirPrint to be as simple as possible, understand that you may have to do a little extra work before it is functional.

I haven''t tested faxing yet, but am very happy with scanning, printing, and AirPrint functionality. If you can get over the hurdle of setting up AirPrint, then I expect you will be very happy with this printer!

It has been a few years since I have had a new printer/scanner. The printer I have been using for a few years was Canon PIXMA MP160 All-In-One Photo Printer (Gray) and for awhile it was all I needed, the printer worked great and the scanner was great. But, it has been time for an upgrade for quite some time.

So, when I was given the chance to try this Canon multifunction scanner, I was very excited!

It did take me almost 10 minutes to set it upthe part that took me the longest to set up was the wireless. But once I got that part figured outit was user error ( I was trying to put my wireless password instead of the passphrase ).

The wireless printer is awesome, All of the computers in my house can run off the one printerwhich is perfectno need to move the old printer from computer to computer.

I really like the auto feed of the paper and how quickly the page prints.

I do not have a need for the faxbut I just tested it out just to see how it would workand it was very simple.

I do not see us getting that much use out of the fax but its a nice feature to have.

I entered my number in the set up and a fax came thru while I had it plugged into the hardwire at home.

The scanner works greatquickly scans the document and puts it in a file on the computer.

I see the price is under $100 and that is an awesome price for this!

I was not disappointed at all with this printer/scanner/fax, if you are looking for a new printer or an upgrade this one is great for the price (even if it was more money its worth it)

There is quite a bit I did not care for with this printer. After installation and testing, these are my takes:

* Upon opening, you will discover the paper storage is not enclosed in a tray. In fact, there is no paper tray, just a slot to slide the paper into after the front panel is lowered. The paper then pokes out the front of the printer to collect dust. Eventually, the dust travelling on the paper into the printer will likely affect paper feed and print quality. Also, the front of the printer must remain open while there is paper inserted in the printer.

* The footprint of the printer, even without paper inserted and the front panel opened, is large. Similar sized printers have concealed paper trays.

* The display is two line and, more importantly, not backlit.

* The menus on the display are not intuitive to navigate

* Setting up Wi-Fi via the display proved to be unfriendly and time consuming given there were absolutely no printed directions. I gave up and elected to do it after the software installation via the software interface like the quick start instructions suggested. So, I chose USB during install thinking I could then configure wireless. Wrong choice (see below).

* After installation I had EIGHT new icons on my desktop without any choice during installation.

* Once the printer installed via USB, I could not connect using Wi-Fi. The program the user manual states to launch to configure wireless the "IJ Network" utility had not been installed.

* No printed directions were included for information as fundamental as describing what the pretty little pictures on the unlabeled buttons on the front of the printer mean.

* The biggest deal breaker is the lack of choice on which drive 400 PLUS megabytes of software installs itself. I kept expecting the installation wizard to give me a choice but instead it started installing all of the software to the C drive with no ability to cancel the process.

I installed this printer on a fast gaming rig with a solid state boot drive I keep clean from excess software. I have a huge secondary drive onto which I install programs such as these from Canon. I resent that the Canon programs and utilities automatically installed to my boot drive thus taking up quite a bit of valuable real-estate on my SSD. I really, really resent having to now explore how to uninstall all of these Canon utilities and reinstall the software I was using for my other Canon printer onto the correct drive. I have installed many printers including other Canon printers. I build my own PCs. I have worked as a network administrator in the past. I have a bit of tech knowhow. But I am truly annoyed at the amount of time and effort a simple printer install has taken and I am not finished yet.

For a wireless printer in my upstairs work area, I recently installed an Epson WorkForce 630 Color Inkjet All-in-One (C11CB07201) with more features, a more solid build, a smaller foot print, a real paper tray and separate ink tanks for color printing all for about the same price as this Canon. The Epson also has a memory card reader and faster print speeds. The Epson install was not without a hiccup but was much easier than the MX 432 has turned out to be.

On the plus side, the quality of the printing and scanning on the MX 432 are good. Nothing "OMG its great" but adequate and what is expected at the price point. The software interface is good and with a similar feel to previous Canon releases for their multi-function units. Another plus, the new software seems to work fine with my older MP 830, which will remain my main printer.

Overall, I would pick the Epson Workforce 630 hands down over the Canon MX 432 for this price range. I hate to pan the printer; I still love and use my Canon MP830. But this model is a definite "pass."
