HP Color LaserJet 1600 Printer (CB373A#ABA)

HP Color LaserJet 1600 Printer
  • Professional, high-quality color LaserJet printer
  • HP Smart Printing Technology; 264 MHz processor with 16 MB RAM
  • Prints up to 8 pages per minute
  • Easy, one-door cartridge access
  • 1-Year limited manufacturer''s warranty

Just got this and it prints great on the 28lb paper that I use for 2 sided printing. It can be set for 2 sided printing but I find it easier to leave settings on default. Will not print on 110# index paper (jams) but will print on the HP 75# cover stock one at a time. If you try to print several copies of a cover, ink will begin to smear. I use my old ink jet if I need more than 1 cover or if I need to print on 110# stock.

I am writing this review, while the HP 1600 is running the second side of our annual holiday letter in full color of a photo of hummingbirds while peach-picking at Masumoto''s Family Farm in California.

The HP prints fast, crisp (offers a draft 600dpi or a full-on 2400dpi) and reliably. No jams and no blurring. This rivals the office laser printers at work, but unfortunately doesn''t automatically do double-sided.

Yes, the ink refills are expensive, but it''s a color laser printer! I haven''t yet had to replace them a second time, so can''t judge if the full cartridges are efficient or not.

However, I would like to recommend to HP and all other printer companies, please include FULL cartridges with all your printers. We are springing for the full package here, so let us print away on full (I also hate it when car companies don''t give you a full tank to start either).

Happy holidays everyone!

I bought this printer in August of 2007 at the local Staples. I had compared the print quality to a Samsung of similar price range and concluded the HP had better print quality, so I bought the HP. BIG MISTAKE. First off, we ran out of black ink within about 30 days the package said it was a 1,000 page ink cartridge that came with the printer, but I''d guess we got less than 700.

So then I pay almost $100 for a new black ink cartridge (the "high capacity" 2500 page cartridge). A few weeks after replacing that ink cartridge, I notice that I was getting red streaks on every page I printed. I followed the manual''s troubleshooting suggestions, but nothing solved it. I figure maybe the magenta cartridge is running out or something (even though the meter on the printer said I had 1/4 of a cartridge left), so I spend almost $100 on another magenta cartridge. As soon as I replace the cartridge, not only did the red streaks not go away, but they got worse.

So I call HP, and I''m told that although the printer was still in warranty, I''d have to pay a $75 "restocking fee" plus shipping to send it back to them, and I''d have to pay their shipping costs to get a return one sent. All told it would have cost about $200 to replace the printer (under warranty!!!) when I only paid $300 for the thing in the first place!

Needless to say, I didn''t do it. By May (only 9 months after I bought the thing), I could no longer print anything of importance because the thing is just dumping red toner onto the paper everything I print comes out looking like I printed it on pink paper. And now I''m out $300 for the original printer plus $200 for cartridges I bought. And, a year later, I see I can buy the damned thing for $69 on Amazon. That shows you the quality of it, for it to drop from $300 to $70 in only a year.

Do not buy this printer. It is not worth the cost of styrofoam packing peanuts it comes in!

Printing envelopes is a challenge. Just figuring out the proper settings to print envelopes was a headache. Moisture sealing envelopes cannot be used because they seal themselves as they pass through the printer. Only pull and seal envelopes can be used. Often the addresses come out splotchy with part of the address barley visible.

After about 6 months of using the printer, everything I print has a vertical yellow streak and the left side of each page.

Included cartridges are half filled and replacements are very expensive.

UPDATE:

I just took a baseball bat to mine and I feel so much better. This thing was going into calibration mode for hours on end. Completely unusable.

At the time that I shopped for the 1600, I discovered that it came with 4 half-full toner cartridges, and the 2600n, which has an Ethernet port, came with full tanks. This made it worthwhile to buy the 2600n instead.

Kodak 1974625 Photo Value Pack

Kodak 1974625 Photo Value Pack with 120 SH 4X6 Premium Paper and 10 Color Cartridge
  • Works with KODAK EASYSHARE 5000 Series/ESP 3,5,7,9 / 3200/5200/7200/9200 Series, ESP Office 6100 Series, HERO 7.1, HERO 9.1, HERO OFFICE 6.1 AiO Printers
  • Perfect for albums and sharing
  • Paper and ink in one package

I bought this product because I wanted to print pictures for people of our first child. This product is perfect because I did not want to use the ink that I had bought for printing on regular sheets of paper because that ink is expensive. You get a great deal with this package because not only are you getting 120 sheets of photo paper but enough ink for the 120 sheets. Now I did not print 120 sheets of pictures to see if the ink lasts for 120 sheets but I have used these in the past and it lasts for over 100 photos if you only print photos. The description kind of makes you think this ink cartridge is like the standard cartridge that costs more than this combo pack but on the package it is a custom ink cartridge that is claimed to be enough for 120 4x6 color photos. Either way this product is great and a great option for those who want to print a lot of pictures for cheap. Results look amazing as well.

Memorex White CD Labels (32020403) Save 39% off

Memorex White CD Labels, Matte Finish. 300 Count
  • 300 premium-quality, white matte labels
  • Compatible with most inkjet and laser printers
  • Labels dry completely in approximately 10 minutes
  • Organize and personalize CDs
  • Ideal for full-color printing

Even if you use other labeling devices I use Fellowes Neato these labels are a steal at this price. The best part about these labels vs. the ones I used before is that they can be used for "full" or "partial" coverage. They have two perforated circles in the middle so you can punch out the small hole or the larger "neato sized" hole. This is not available on the more expensive neato labels I traditionally bought. So far I''ve used about 100 of these labels with no problems at all, I''m very happy with these labels.

I''m on my 4th package of 300 ct labels. Every label program I''ve used has a ready made template (Nero, CoverXP, etc.). The labels give the option of standard or full face labels ("big hole" or "little hole"). They have a matte flat finish as opposed to a slick, glossy finish. Consequently, they are better for text-intensive applications. Graphics do print beautifully. Those who intend to print photographic images best choose a glossy product.

These labels print nicely and were exactly what I expected for the price. The software that comes with the package is good enough for printing labels, although they don''t print exactly as you see them on the monitor (there will be white space on the label if you don''t overlap it in the software. Other than that, this is a decent pack of matte labels and you can''t beat the price.

I''ve bought hundreds of Memorex labels and recognize the face and backing sheets. These labels have a slick back sheet, while real Memorex labels have a paper back sheet. That alone doesn''t bother me, but these labels (which I now believe are cheap knockoffs) constantly jam my HP7500 printer. Most sheets fold over as they round the bend to the print head and stop there. If they make it any further, there is a good chance they won''t make it into the hold down guides at the heads, which makes a real mess. About one in eight sheets actually made it through. Those that did, show inaccurate and inconsistent colors much darker oranges that range from grayish to brown, not close to what consistently prints on real Memorex labels. After a lot of frustration, wasted sheets, and possibly damage to my printer, the very first real Memorex sheet fed through perfectly with accurate colors. All real labels and other paper types feed through just fine. Before ordering, I suggest you try to get a sample to see if these labels work for you. I accept this risk on eBay where sellers usually let you know when products are not genuine. However, Amazon sells these as the real thing. I''m very disappointed with Amazon (again).

I have found, for the money spent, these are the best value. They have vibrant, full face printing, and I have always had a consistant batch. They peel easily, which is something I have found to be a problem with other brands. I haven''t tried them all, but I have tried quite a few, and I always come back to these. I always find the best price thru amazon. I would definitely give them a try.

Avery Perforated Mailing Seals, Clear, 480 per Pack (05248) Save 50% off

Avery Perforated Mailing Seals, Clear, 480 per Pack
  • Ideal for sealing flyers, brochures and newsletters.
  • Perforated seals make opening easy without damage to mailer.
  • Permanent adhesive ensures secure closure.
  • Pack of 480

I publish a newsletter with a circulation of 700+ and use these seals for every issue. They are designed so that you can tear part of the wax paper backing off, so some of the mailing seals stick out over the edge of the remaining wax paper. This makes it very easy to grab and peel off the mailing seal. They stick well to the newsletter. The perforation makes it easy to break the newsletter open at the receiving end. To save money, we only use one seal to seal a 12-page newsletter (folded over once). I recommend using two seals, because the postal service sometimes can get kind of rough with them.

At first, figuring out the trick to using these is not super easy, but once you figure it out, they are a breeze and work well! Highly recommended.

Tips: When tearing these apart so that the seal pops up for easy removal, flip the page over to the backside. Look at the preferations and bend then tear there. If you look from the front, there are extra lines and it makes it confusing. You''ll see what I mean. Definitely tear them apart to save time. Otherwise, you are individually removing seals which would waste time.

We used these for invitations. Careful if you are using any glossy paper they will not stick. We ended up using Avery silver stickers, and they worked well.

Used it to seal our thank you notes. Template wasn''t on the website I guess they updated it so it doesn''t fit snuggly with the seals.

HP Laserjet CM1415FNW

HP Laserjet CM1415FNW
  • Scan Resolution up to 1200-dpi optical, maximum scan size 8.5 inch x 14 inch
  • Prints up to 12 pages per minute black, up to 8 ppm color
  • Connect this MFP to a wired or wireless network
  • Save energy and reduce your impact
  • Use the 3.5-inch (8.89 cm) color touchscreen to access and print information

This new MFP from HP looked promising, but falls short due to their terrible software and driver bundle and lack of proper network scanning.

Replaced a Brother inkjet MFP that was half the price. The print quality on this laser is quite good, though the toner cartridges are puny and expensive, it may end up costing about the same to run as the brother inkjet.

Biggest issue is you have to install hundreds of megabytes of software just to use the printer. With the brother, it was a 16 megabyte driver that included network TWAIN scanning, and the rest was optional.

Typically business marketed network MFP''s in this price range have network scanning (dell/brother/kyocera, where one can simply walk up to the device and send your scan by email, FTP, or server file share. This is not possible with this model. The only way to scan is to run the HP toolbox on your PC and then walk over to where the printer is, then load your document and walk back. Anyone trying to use this with more than a few employees is going to go nuts.

You can scan to a USB key, which is nice, but you can''t even pick your PC from the screen. I don''t see the point of the 3" color touchscreen when you can''t really use it for anything but setting number of copies and other basic settings you never really change.

It won''t go on a wireless and wired network at the same time, which is typical, though I would have liked to make it available on the public wifi for guests to use.

The first print is pretty quick, only about 10 seconds, though the pages per minute are a bit slow, printing long 100+ page documents will take a while.

I''d recommend this unit for home use only where it''ll likely be used occasionally and by a few people. It''ll be great for that since the ink can''t dry out like inkjets, and the software is easy to use once you get it loaded. Businesses should look elsewhere.

This all-in-one printer is good at some things, but not good at others.

Printing black and white documents. Rating: 4 stars

Very clear, crisp black text like you''d expect from a laser. Its only problem is it doesn''t produce very good grays. The grays sometimes have some ugly line or grain patterns in them, even though the same document prints fine on my inkjets. Running the printer''s color calibration didn''t improve anything.

Copying black and white documents. Rating: 4 stars

Copies of black text are indistinguishable from the original. However, some grays in black and white documents either don''t show up or are faded with uneven print and are hard to see. Adjusting the darkness and other settings doesn''t cure the problem.

Printing documents with 12pt colored text in many different colors. Rating: 3 stars

Although the majority of the colors look good and are a good match to what is on screen, some of the colors have ugly line patterns in them. Running the printer''s color calibration didn''t improve anything. Neither did updating the firmware, adjusting settings, and making sure I had the latest drivers. The same documents do not have this problem when printed on my inkjet connected to the same system.

Copying color documents with 12pt colored text in many different colors. Rating: 2 stars

This is one of the big reasons I decided to return the unit. Although many of the colors do look good and are a good match to the original, some look smudgy, even though they are clear in the original. Other colors look faded with uneven print. Adjusting the darkness and other settings, running the color calibration, etc., did not improve anything. The same documents copied on a couple of Canon all-in-one inkjets look MUCH better.

Copying the same 12pt colored text document in black and white copy mode. Rating: 1 star

Much of the text is unreadable. Much of the rest is grainy. Although problems like this when trying to copy a color document in black and white mode are common on consumer grade all-in-ones.

I normally don''t print photos, so I didn''t test this ability. However, lasers are not a good choice for printing photos.

I did scan a color picture and got good results. Color matching wasn''t perfect but was decent. Flesh tones were good.

I didn''t use the fax, wireless, ethernet, or document feeder on the scanner, so I can''t comment on those.

Hooking up the unit by USB and installing the software on Vista 32 bit was easy. However, the software installed some autostarting bloatware junk. The software does give the option of just installing print and scan drivers or the HP Toolbox and other stuff as well. I probably should have just installed the scan/print drivers, as this might have eliminated that problem.

This printer also draws less power than some other brands of laser printers, according to its specs. I''ve read that some brands of laser printers will actually dim the room lights on startup. This was not a problem on this model.

There is one important thing to note about this printer if you ever intend to conserve color toner by printing color documents in grayscale (black and white). The printer may still consume color toner by mixing all 4 colors to produce different shades of gray or black. You need to specify in the print driver settings to use black toner only for grayscale if you want to conserve color toner when printing in grayscale. This setting is mentioned in Chapter 8, Table 1 of the electronic version of the manual.

I purchased this item directly from HP''s small-medium business (SMB) center. I was looking for a printer to replace my Brother MFC-9840CDW, which is a color/wireless all-in-one (AIO). Brother had not come out with a newer model that bettered this AIO that I have had for a couple of years. Since I was going to have to buy multiple new Brother toner cartridges for color, which would be 1/2 the price of a completely new model, I was in the market for a new AIO. My reqirements were AIO, laser, color, wireless networking and good user feedback. My Brother repair center told me that they can definitely tell the difference in HP color printers versus the other guys. Since my Brother gave out weak/light color prints, and the color accuracy was pretty bad, I wanted to like the HP LaserJet Pro CM1415fnw, which just came out and did not have any user comments.

I purchased from HP''s SMB with a 30-day return policy. If you go through another center, your return period may be shorter. When I opened the box, only the main unit and an installation guide were inside. The box said I should get power/USB/phone cables and an installation CD, but they were missing. Due to a backorder delay, I was advised to order a new unit and ship the old one back. I got the drivers online and used a spare 3-prong computer-type power cable to test out the unit. Based on my findings in the rest of this review, I will be returning the HP for my money back.

I wanted wireless to minimize the cables going into my Apple Mac mini (mid-2010) which also has built-in wireless networking. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit via Boot Camp. You initially need the USB cable so the installation software can configure the unit to your computer and router. Once that was done, the computer was able to see the HP right away. This was much easier than the Brother, which required me to manually configure both the computer and AIO, and I had to call Brother''s customer service, even though I am computer savvy.

I don''t need much color, since I mostly print documents, nevertheless I would only consider laser for black or color. The color is definitely better than Brother. However, the color on the HP is a little too saturated and printing color is not quite as sharp as printing black. I made a color copy of a color copy, and the saturation increased, further distorting the original image. You get starter toner cartridges that are about 60% full. HP is not the only manufacturer doing that these days.

The paper tray is a puny 150 pages. The Brother has a 250-sheet tray and I purchased a 500 sheet 2nd tray. You cannot add a second tray to the HP. Also, the HP does not have a manual feed tray for envelopes or other paper. The Brother nicely holds 3 envelopes at a time in its manual feed tray. The HP claims to have a manual feed for envelopes, but all it does is pause printing until you pull out the tray, pull out your paper, slide the guides to envelope size, insert your envelopes, close the tray, and then you may have to tell it to print the envelope (I never bothered to print an envelope from the HP after discovering how convoluted the process is). I would have likely kept the HP if it had a manual feed for envelopes, and I only had to pull out the tray to add fancy bond paper. This AIO is not made for any office work in which you print letters, unless you only print envelopes in batches. So why would any home or small office buy one?

When I print a letter to my Brother, my Word document has the first page(s) formatted as an envelope(s) and the remaining pages letter-size. The documents also have Word''s Page Setup defined to pull paper from the designated tray: manual feed for envelopes, 250-sheet Tray 1 for letter-size bond paper for correspondence, and 500-sheet Default Tray (Tray 2) for regular letter-size paper for everything else.

I liked the fact that the HP has a color touchpad as its user interface. But in real use in making copies, you have to touch the screen to wake it up and then hit the print button. Dedicated print buttons would have been preferred, one for black and one for color like the Brother.

The unit stays pretty quiet and printing noise is not excessive. I do not notice the fan running as loud as the Brother after a print or copy job. It occasionally self-calibrates, but infrequent enough to not be excessively annoying. The HP''s first page out when printing comes out in one-third or one-quarter the time as the Brother, which takes about 1-minute from sleep mode and acts like it is printing 3-pages before it actually prints the first page. The HP is smaller than the Brother, but I would gladly trade a little height to get a bigger tray and options for a manual feed or an additional tray.

The sole reason I bought this printer was I went to use my color ink jet Lexmark which was once again out of ink. It seemed every time I went to use my color printer it was out of ink. Seemed like it was drying up and jamming the ink heads between uses. At $50 every time I decided to go color laser. I bought this one at office max on sale for $379. We also have a Brother 2070N and also just bought a Brother 2270DW for $50 (had some max perk points, was on sale for $99 normaly $149). Anyway the HP is a nice printer that I have to print graphics for some design work and also photos for the kids school projects. We knew this would only replace the ink jet as it does not have high capacity toner cartridges available. While you can buy refurbished toner cartridges for half the cost of new I do not want to run the risk of jamming up the drum like cheap ink jet cartridges do to the heads on those. Which leads me to the significance of replacing our Brother printer as well. Virtually the same day I bought the HP the notification to replace the drum on the Brother 2070N came on and would no longer print. Never replaced it since we owned it for several years but checked with office max and a replacement was $132! This is our workhorse for printing up tests, research documents and publications for my fiance who is a college prof. so printing 150 page document occurs every few days with daily prints of 30 pages average. By all means the HP will put you in the poor house if you print documents. I''ve had mine for 4 weeks and it is already asking for a new black toner cartridge. While there are $50 high capacity toner in black that say up to 2500 pages in 5% coverage, I don''t think it is worth the risk of having to replace the drum on the HP.

So, If you have to print color or copy occasionally with wireless this is a good printer. If you print a lot of documents have a backup black and white laser with high capacity cartridges available. (2500+)

I''ve been using computers since the early days of the Apple II. In that time, I''ve used a wide variety of printers. Everything from teletype based devices, to dot matrix, to inkjets and lasers. Some have been great and some terrible, with many in between. In that time, I have never had a printer that I''ve liked as much as this one, and that is really saying something. It just does everything I want and it does it well. Some have mentioned that it doesn''t print envelopes well. I don''t use mine for envelopes at all, so I can''t comment on that one way or the other. That just isn''t a need I have. If you do have a need for an envelope printer, proceed carefully and make sure any printer you get can do this well. It can be tricky to get a good envelope printer as many printers have struggled with this (though there are several that are quite good at it).

I should note that this is my first All-In-One(AIO), meaning it prints, scans, copies, and faxes. These are sometimes referred to as multifunction printers (MFPs) too. For years I had shied away from AIOs because you could never get the best printer and the best scanner and the best software all rolled into one device and also because if you lost one device, you lost them all. In the last five years or so, I had noticed that these devices were getting much better, but I didn''t want one that was inkjet based (due to the higher costs per page of inkjets) so I waited. When this AIO came out, I finally decided to give them a try. I have to say, I was very impressed with how well it worked and really like the space savings I have now that I don''t have to have a printer and a scanner separately.

Pros:

+Fantastic color output. It really rivals most inkjets. I''ve owned several color lasers and this one is far better than any others I have used (Samsung, Konica-Minolta, Brother, HP).

+Great on-screen color menu that is very easy to use.

+Clean design. I looked long and hard at the Brother AIOs, but really didn''t like their (or HP''s higher end AIO models) due to their old fashioned hard button design. They had dedicated buttons. I much prefer the big color display on this model.

+Low power consumption in idle mode.

+Fast print speeds. Some have complained about how slow this printer prints, but there are some things that they may not be taking into account. This printer in idle mode only uses about 3 watts of power (I measured this using my kill a watt meter). This is very low, even for idle mode and means I can keep my printer on at all times. This is especially important for wireless devices, because why bother with wireless if you have to get up and go turn it on just to use it? You might as well plug a cord in at that point. The first page does take awhile to print. I timed mine on several first page prints and it averaged around 30 35 seconds. Subsequent pages printed very fast. So you might be wondering why does the first page take so long? It is because this printer uses a lower power idle mode. This means that if you leave it on like I like to do, it will barely cost you any money. It also means that the first page of any document you print will take about half a minute, but subsequent pages will print quickly. So you decide if you like this or not. I do. I much prefer it this way. Others may not. Sadly you can''t set this option in the software or on the printer.

+Ability to print from any computer anywhere on the Internet. With this printer you can setup an email address for the printer and then email documents to that address for printing (including pictures). They will print immediately if the printer is on and if it is off, they will print the next time you turn it on. I really like this feature. It just works and works well.

+Sheet feeder. The sheet feeder works well on this device and works with a variety of sizes. Like I said before, I haven''t tried envelopes, so I don''t know how well it works for those.

+Output tray. I really like the design of the output tray. A lot of printers use those flimsy output trays that dump everything at the top on some sort of cheap plastic sleeve sticking out that can easily break off. This printer outputs printed documents into an ample slot under the scanner. It is simple and effective.

+Driver installation. The drivers were incredibly easy to install on all of my computers. I run Windows 7 64bit on most of my PCs but I also run XP Pro and Vista on a few including a notebook. The drivers were incredibly easy to install and wifi was very easy to setup. In fact, it was the easiest installation for a wifi printer that I''ve ever had.

+Minimal design of drivers. I really hate drivers that pop up all the time taking over my computer just to blare at me what they are doing, like a spoiled child. The HP drivers for this printer alert you that they are doing their job when you print something, but with minimal impact on what you are doing on your computer and they leave a pretty small footprint (meaning they don''t take up a lot of resources).

+Ease of changing toner cartridges. For this printer, there is an easy to open door on the front. You can easily swap out old toner cartridges for new ones. I''ve had several other printers where it is the back and you have to move stuff around and clean off your desk just to switch cartridges or pry them loose. This one is a breeze!

+Can fax, scan, or copy multiple pages easily.

+Quite. This is the quietest color laser I''ve owned. My old Konica sounded like it had a cat hidden inside trying to escape. This one will make noise once in awhile to calibrate, but in idle mode it is silent. When it prints it is relatively quiet. This is a big plus to me because I hate noise.

+Wireless. This is not HPs highest AIO, but it is the best wireless AIO they offer. I just love having wireless for my printer/scanner/copy/fax device.

+Web connectivity is really cool. There are many apps you can download to the printer so you can print out your favorite newspaper, calendar, games for the kids, etc. These apps work well.

I''m sure there are other pros, but those are all I can think of right now.

Cons:

-Kind of big. My last color laser was a Samsung that was very small, no bigger than the smallest monochrome lasers. It suffered from poor print quality and was not an All-In-One (AIO) like this one. Having the scanner on top does add to the size. The toner cartridges were hard to replace on the Samsung too. I wouldn''t describe this printer as huge, but it is tall. Be sure it will fit where you want to put it before buying.

-Manual duplex only. There is driver support, but you have to do it by hand.

-Small paper tray. It holds 150 pages. There are several models that hold 250. For me this isn''t a big issue, but if you do a lot of printing, it might be.

-Scanner software is limited. As with any multifunction device, there will be issues with something. The weakness of this one in my opinion is the scanner software. It doesn''t have many options and you can''t use the touch menu controls to scan to your PC. This could be better.

-Pricey. It lists for $450. Mine cost $375 on sale and you can now get it as low as $350 some places, which is much better. Amazon needs to lower their price to be competitive.

This printer does support the Mac OS, but I haven''t tried it with a Mac.

Overall, I am very happy with this printer. I like it so much I wish my old Konica I use in my classroom would die, so I could replace it with one of these like I have at home. It is by far the best printer I have ever used.

Lexmark Z25 Color Inkjet Printer

Lexmark Z25 Color Inkjet Printer
  • Desktop-sized color thermal inkjet printer
  • 1,200 x 1,200 resolution
  • Supports standard media types and sizes, plus Japanese envelopes
  • Standard USB interface, optional Ethernet
  • PC and Mac compatible

This is a neat little printer. It is light, so it is easy to move around. It is easy to install, and really easy to operate. The print quality is also excellent for such a small printer. It takes two cartridges, a black one and a multi-colour one.

The paper handlers slip neatly into the body of the printer when it is not in use, so it takes up very little desk space. And even when in use it is very neat. The paper holder is vertical, so it takes up no space behind the printer. So only the printed document tray is using up space as you print.

The drawback is the speed. It is very slow, especially printing a full colour document. But there has to be some drawback when you purchase anything, and for the price this is an excellent home printer. Because it is easy to use, the kids are less likely to mess with it.

If you are running an office, forget it! It is just too slow for business use.

Prints well for the first couple of runs. Cartridge runs out quickly. Cartridge build is nothing more than a foam sponge inside very poor design.

I was sucked in by the low price of the printer but the ink cartridges will have you paying through the nose (the editorial review already mentioned this). The low productivity per ink cartridge will have you buying cartridges very often, for me it was every three or four months and with the total cost for two cartridges being around $90 without no generic cartridges available the printer was definitely not worth it.

Actually, the cartridges can be refilled but there are other problems with that.

The printing quality is okay but with the market for printers so large there is no reason to settle for this. Now I''m looking for a new printer and I am definitely not buying a Lexmark again.

The Z25 and Z35 are low-end printers designed for use at home. They use a USB cable to connect to a computer running Windows 98, Me, 2000, and XP after you install the software from the CD. You must select CANCEL when the OS detects the connected printer and only use the CD software. The 24 page manual explains the proper method to set up this printer. You connect the modular power supply, the USB cable, install the print cartridges (#26 tricolor, #16 black) into the color-coded receptacles (light green for tricolor, dark green for black), then load the plain paper on the top and extend the paper exit tray. The printer software is installed last. Run the SETUP program to install the software (if it doesn''t start automatically). Follow the instructions on the monitor screen. Print an alignment page so the tricolor and black cartridges will be properly aligned. This printer will work when either or both cartridges are installed. You can customize the printer settings in "Print Properties". Various sized paper can be used in portrait or landscape mode. When installing the printer you may have to create a USB Virtual printer port if another printer was previously defined (not for printers connected to a parallel port). Like other Lexmark printers the paper follows a shallow curve in printing.

The Lexmark Solutions Center will guide you in printing photos, envelopes, banners, etc. It will help to solve printing problems. A blinking paper feed light may result in an error message on your screen. Page 11 offers suggestions to follow when there is a problem. There are pages for Mac OS 8.6 to 9.2 and Mac OS X version 10.0.3 to 10.1. Page 20 tells how to contact Lexmark. The Index to topics is on pages 19 and 20. Other manuals warn against setting up a printer during an electrical storm, or removing the inkjet cartridges except to replace or clean them. This printer has a modular plug-in power supply with an attached power cord. [Does this make it run warmer?]

The audio response will tell you what to do if there is a problem. A right click on the "Lexmark Z25-Z35" icon will allow you to choose the Lexmark Solution Center for various options. You can select the alignment tool to fix blurry edges, print a test page, or install a new print cartridge. This is one of the least expensive printers and a bargain when bought used for light duty printing. You may find a better printer at a higher price. Shutting down the computer turns the printer off, applying power turns it on.

[I found the indicator for ink levels wasn''t correct for the used tricolor cartridge when the printer was installed on another computer.]

I must say I''m not a stickler for print quality and print speed, so I didn''t notice that the blacks came out dark brown, or that printing a full-page photograph took more time than it should. What I have noticed is that this printer will never feed more than one sheet of paper without jamming. That is to say, it might get the first page through alright, but when it goes for the second sheet, it feeds the right side of the sheet too quickly, starts printing at an angle, which crumples the paper, and jams the machine. In, fact, I wouldn''t even reccommend leaving paper in the tray. Feed it manually, always.

I also have to say that the software (at least that which came with the Brazilian installation package) is irritating to the point of never wanting to print again. "Printing is starting" "Please feed paper" Blablabla, I''m not blind, you don''t have to speak to me, just beep and that''s enough. I take it back. No stars! This printer is going to printer hell when it dies, along with all its Z25 brethren. Avoid it like the plague.

  • Direct low noise thermal printing
  • Versatile and adaptable

" You get what you pay for" so very true,

While the printer may have worked, I will never know since the supplied software and instructions were totally useless.

Software does not have an auto install, you have to install through Windows control panel and Windows does not find the driver no matter what directory you point to. User manual on the disc contains only tech specs. The paper instructions are in Chinese and there is no tech support phone number or website. There is no warranty paperwork packed with the printer, so it looks like Loftek does not care wether you can get it to work or not. I returned the printer (thank you amazon for your great return policy) and bought the Epson. The Epson installed the first time I tried and is woking great!

Buy Loftek New SP-pos58IV USB 58mm POS Thermal Dot Receipt Printer(black) Now

While this printer may not be great for a production environment with heavy use it definitely gets the job done, for what I need it for. Given that once you get it installed it functions like a normal windows printer no changing is needed to support other POS printers in a given application other then specifics such as paper size.

FYI Installing was a bit of a PITA but I powered through it so I included directions

Open \POS Printer\English\Other\USB interface card\Printer with USB Interface Instructions.pdf

Follow those directions.

Yes really install the 88 drivers despite this being a 58 printer.

All things will work then!

Will follow up in about 30 days to respond how well this will work, and that it is or isn''t still working.

  • Up to 18 ppm black, 12 ppm color
  • Prints 4-by-6-inch borderless photos in just 93 seconds
  • 4,800 x 1,200 dpi color, 600 x 600 dpi black

Put a lot of time into researching photo printers before I picked up this Canon i470d from BestBuy. Brought it home and was immediately impressed. Fast, quiet, excellent quality photo printing. Easy to setup and easy-to-use software comes with. Great options....can print from media card or directly from Canon camera. Very happy with my purchase and I highly recommend it. Just don''t forget to buy the USB cord that is NOT included. For your info, I just use this recreationaly to print out some 4x6''s. Not doing any technically difficult photo editing or elaborate presentations.

I''ve been looking for a while to replace my lagging Lexmark printer. I found a great deal on this Canon printer. I checked the reviews, which were mostly very favorable. I purchased it without hesitation. I''m glad I did.

It does not come with a USB cable, so expect to purchase one. It does come with a sample pack of 5 4x6 Canon picture paper, so you don''t even need to purchase paper first to test it out. And it does come with a cartriage of color and black ink, both need to be installed. In addition, the cost of the ink is lower than many other printers, ranging about $10 a cartriage.

The software is very nice, so far. You open up their picture printer program. Select the photo(s) you want to print, then you choose from the paper types, from 4x6 to 8-1/2x11 and then how you want the photo(s) printed, ie with/without a border. Pretty much just a three step process.

The results? OY! The pictures are really fantastic. Now I must state that the quality of the print will be based more on the quality of the picture (jpeg/gif/bmp) you are printing. For example, I took a jpeg that I had from my website. In order to use it on my website, I needed to cut the resolution down. When I printed the that picture (4x6), there was a noticable grain to the photo quality. This is not in any way the fault of the printer. When I took a similar jpeg and printed it at its original resolution, the quality was as if I got the picture from a photo store. I decided to take a high resolution jped, about 12 MB, and print it 8-1/2x11. The quality was excellent. I won''t say it was perfect. Upon close inspection, ie staring right in front of it, you''ll notice slight indications that it was printed, however, I couldn''t guarantee that you could go to a photo store and get a better quality image reproduction. However, from just casually looking at the picture, the quality is excellent.

The speed is pretty nice, about 1 4x6 in 40 seconds. Normal print outs are obviously faster, though I haven''t done much with that. One other thing to bring, the paper feeder seems very reliable. My Lexmark needed to be manually feed, one sheet at a time, to print and that was such a hassle. However, this printer has a great feeder.

Overall, this product is excellent. Remember to get a USB cable to go along with it.

Good price. Cheapest overall cost of ownership because inkjets are cheaper than any HP or Epson and last a very long time (don''t worry about it having 1 color cartridge vs. 3 or more separate color cartridges, it''s still very cheap). Photo quality comparable to lab. Very good text on plain paper, even in draft mode, and better than Canon i850. Graphics (webpages and photoshop images) are better than i850. Get this over the Canon i850 UNless you''re going to print more photos than text (the i850 is slightly better but only under intense scrutiny). Also, this printer can take different kinds of camera media (cf, sm) while the i850 can''t. Had it for a month, no problems whatsoever. For the cost of photo quality paper & ink get this printer, otherwise go to a photolab to get your digital pictures printed.

I bought this printer b/c I needed to do color prints and my HP wasn''t doing justice.

I LOVE this printer. I got it with a rebate, but it is worth the $99.99 retail 100%.

My pictures are AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I show them to others and no one could tell I printed them myself. I am in awe of the printer. My sister and brother saw my picture quality and now they are BOTH buying one of these.

It was easy putting it together, and came with some good software too.

Very easy to use. You think it might be hard b/c of all the features, but it''s very user-friendly.

The only thing that might annoy you is it does make a bit of noise while it''s loading to print and when it''s done. Because the outcome is fabulous, this doesn''t bother me at all.

Note also, that I used the Canon glossy paper, then also with the HP photo glossy paper, the Canon paper had better results. Much cleaner than the HP.

I highly recommend this.

The Canon i470D was impulse purchase and it has turned out to exceed my expecations. The images are excellent and the control over color levels "to the edge" prining makes this peripheral an exceptional buy!

Pros:

1. print quality;

2. built-in card reader

3. incredible software package;

4. print to the edge option

5. print saturation options (per color including black)

6. art-work backgrounds with frames for multiple images

7. image browser with slide-show

8. picture stitch program;

Cons:

1. should use Canon paper only; most reliable results

2. small ink cartridges means you replace more often

Brother HL-5040 Laser Printer

Brother HL-5040 Laser Printer
  • 2,400 x 600 dpi resolution with HQ1200 technology
  • Up to 17 pages per minute print speed
  • 8 MB memory, upgradeable to 136 MB; 250-sheet universal paper cassette
  • Supports optional 10BaseT external Ethernet print server
  • USB 2.0 and parallel interfaces; PC and Mac compatible

I purchased my Brother HL-5040 from Amazon.com for $190.00 delivered, including the USB 2.0 cable, and the TN-530 3,000 page "starter" toner cartridge and the DR-500 drum rated for 20,000 pages. I am an English professor and generally use it for printing out my papers (15 to 30 pages) and drafts of books (up to 500 pages), and master copies of handouts and exams and the like for my classes (I have an HP DeskJet for color printing). The Brother HL-5040 printer has a nice compact footprint: there is no hideous projecting tray or paper catcher as with several of the competing models, and the output area on top holds fifty or more printed pages without spilling them. The printer is also low enough at "9.9 inches" to fit under a foot-high shelf in my work room (so it doesn''t take up the valuable real-estate on the top shelf) The 12 point text (which is the standard in my field) is very sharp, and the old (circa 1880s) political cartoon images I''ve reproduced from scanned photocopies of newspapers look great: I''ve no banding or dark areas.

Having read the other reviews, I want to share some of my thoughts that may shed light on the differing views regarding the Brother printers. This printer replaces a Brother HL-1240 model I''ve owned for over two years. I replaced that printer (it was given to my sister) because its drum was failing, after making approximately 12,000 copies. Until the drum began to fail, I never had a single problem with the printer: it never ever jammed even once (my previous laser printer, an Epson 1400, jammed all the time). For $110 I could have replaced the drum unit (as my sister did), but for $190 I upgraded to the HL-5040. So, while I''ve seen the critiques of the Brother printers because of their drums, and I have in fact elected to replace my HL-1240, I still don''t think the harsh criticisms directed at Brother for this situation are fair.

Here''s what I think: it is not likely that very many $200 laser printers will ever print out 100,000 or even 60,000 high quality copies over their lifetimes. I say this in part because I suspect the paper transport mechanisms in all the printers in the personal use category are likely to be at least somewhat degraded by the time the printer approaches that number of copies, and once that happens--as anyone who''s ever tried to nurse an aging photocopier knows--the point of ever diminishing returns has been reached. And I say this also because many, if not most, small office and home users like me are unlikely to use a $200 printer often enough to generate 60k to 100k copies in less than five years. At my rate of use, I will have to own my new printer for 8 years to reach the upper number. Given the rate of technological change, as good as it now is, I seriously doubt that I''ll want to have this printer for that long.

That said, this time I intend to keep the printer long enough to replace the drum unit at least twice, and, assuming I get the same 12,000 copies out of each drum, that puts me in the 36,000 copies range. When I crunch the numbers (the drums presently cost $140.00 and the 6,500 page toner cartridges run $75), my cost per copy for the first 16,000 estimated copies (using the included DR-500 drum and the TN-530, and purchasing 2 TN-560 toner cartridges), works out to 2.1 cents per page. Of course, as we all know, the estimated yields are highly inflated. Assuming I get 36,000 copies out of the 3 drums (including the one included with the printer) and 5,000 copies from the TN-560 toner cartridges, plus 2,000 to 2,500 from the included TN-530, I''d need to buy 7 TN-560s to get to that number. This would add up to a $995.00 total investment and would mean my actual per copy cost would be approximately 2.8 cents over the "life" of the printer.

This is not the low 1.3 cents per copy figure I''ve seen in one magazine review, but once all the inflated estimates are cut down to size, I suspect it is quite competitive with what the other companies can offer.

I have been staring at the Brother model HL 1440 for quite some time. It was Consumer Reports number one pick. I decided to go with the HL-5040 because of the additional ram and extra fonts. When I read the owners manual it showed me that a lot of other features are built in as well. I like the fact that it prints a page so fast, and only costs 2 cents per page. My Lexmark X83 multifunction does a nice job in color but has a single page print cost of 6 cents to $1.50 when printing a full-page photograph. Now I think nothing of whipping out a 20-page document. The speed is another practical issue. At a max of 17ppm the paper is coming out so fast that one page is settling in the print tray, while another one is coming out right on top of it

To be critical of the unit is to cite the comments in C Reports, and ZD Net reviews as to the medium quality results when printing graphics. I think that is due in part to the print per page cost being the lowest out of all of the printers. The HL1440 was rated a little higher in graphics, but the same in text. I think black and white photos mixed into an MS Publisher document look fine for black and white. The laser gives you an acceptable printed photo for a few cents. Make up a single 4-page flyer, and make a hundred copies, and you can see that the laser printer could pay for itself in a single printing next to an inkjet. Makes you want to market your tail off with the economy of the laser.

I networked the house, and put the brother HL-5040 in my home office, and now have the option of printing from any one of the machines.

It comes with 8 Meg of ram built in, that is permanently installed, and you have one expansion slot for a single added ram chip. I went into Boogle.com and found a supplier with a 128 Meg ram chip that is generic. The 128 was only thirty-six dollars with free shipping. The printer will work fine with the 8 Meg it comes with, but if you send it a 50-page PDF file, the extra ram is a good idea to help prevent bottlenecks.

I love the fact that it has a 250-sheet paper tray. The additional 250-sheet tray for a total of 500 is an option.

The 5040 was listed in Consumer Reports as being the loudest of the laser printers, but I find it to be very quiet.

The big bonus is that with a laser printer your ink never dries out. It is a powder to start with. My friend bought an NEC in the mid 80''s and did very little printing, and just last year his cartridge ran out. The problem with my Lexmark inkjet is that the darn cartridges wear out so fast even if you don''t use them, and they are expensive.

You do not want to move this machine without removing the drum-toner cartridge first. Brother has big warning messages on the toner bag, stating you can do irreparable harm if you don''t remove it first. I imagine that the toner can spill into the workings of the printer and do come damage. Some people commenting on streaking may have done just that. If you move it into the next room, treat it like nitroglycerine, or remove the cartridge first.

The bottom line is the price. (...)the reduction in price to start with, this printer is a super buy. I noticed that Brother has a 5140 now to replace this one. It has the same results on graphics, has the same print resolution, and only a couple of pages per minute improvement on the print speed. I saved the extra money by buying the 5040 and put some of that savings, into the 128 Meg memory expansion chip, and still had some money left over. The 5140 does come with 16 Megs instead of 8 like the 5040.

Bubble jets and inkjets will give you a slightly darker and larger text. The laser is smooth, and truly fuzz free, even under a microscope. I find it easier on the eyes to read. I am keeping my Lexmarks X83s for when I want to print photographs, and when I want to print something out right where I am, instead of going into the office.

I''m not into yeah this, and boo that. I think if I had to have just one printer, it would be a full featured bubble-ink jet, so I could do color too. Adding a laser to your arsenal is the ultimate conclusion. With the price of these Brothers, and the high ratings, (...), makes them a must have. Highly recommended.

I work as an independent paralegal, doing research and preparing documents to file with the Courts. I purchased this unit about 6 weeks ago because my inkjet printer was too slow and too expensive for big projects.

Like the other inexpensive Brother laser printers, this one is a very good value, and has features of more expensive printers. It does have some cheap plastic parts, but this is to be expected in this price range. Other inexpensive laser printers look feel cheap in comparison.

On the good side, the printer has the 250 page paper drawer located under the printer, where it belongs. This way, you don''t have an unsightly flop [sic] of paper on the desk in front of you. It also has a front door for feeding single sheets so you don''t have to open the drawer and replace the paper, reset the paper guides, and so forth, simply to print a single envelope. It also pops printed paper out of the top into a proper paper recepticle, or you can open the door at the back of the printer and let the paper feed straight through.

The printer is fast, at 17 pages per minute, and warms up fairly quickly so you don''t have to wait too long for it to start. Print quality is good, and small fonts are legible with no bleeding. The grayscale for graphics is good, with nice even printing and little graininess.

The biggest problem I have with this printer is that the drum and toner cartridge are replaced separately. This is not as much a problem as an annoyance. The printer drum has to be changed every 20,000 copies or so, and costs almost as much as the printer itself. The toner is inexpensive relative to other printers, but the drum is around $100. Despite having this unusual expense every four or five toner cartridges, the per page cost is still only about 1.5 cents per copy. This is comparable to other laser printers, and is significantly cheaper than inkjet printers. In comparison to inkjet printers, this laser will pay for itself in the first 5,000 to 10,000 copies.

For a home or small office, this printer gives a lot of bang for the buck. Given the high quality of the black and white print, the low per page cost, and the speed, this printer is a steal.

I read most of the reviews on the Brother HL 5040 and there were a few criticisms that concerned me. People wrote that it was loud and handled envelopes poorly. I decided to take my chances since the printer was only $150 with no tax and shipping included. In its defense, I must say that my printer does a great job printing envelopes. I ended up printing out wedding invitations and envelopes. It printed the outer envelopes, inner envelopes, and RSVP envelopes as well as the card stock for the invitation cards, maps, and RSVP cards for 120 invitations!

It was easy to feed them through the manual feeder. I had to do it one at a time, but if you''re on a budget, it beats paying for it to be professionally done (and hopefully, I''ll only have to do it once in my life). It''s also a very speedy printer and so manually feeding the hungry Brother was relatively painless. There was a tendency for envelopes to curl when they came out. It wasn''t a problem after they had been stuffed. I believe that curling problems would happen with any laser printer since the paper gets heated up while being run through the feeders. The graphics for my maps were sharp in the "HQ 1200" mode and I did not have to purchase extra memory for it. Text was sharp in all modes. Paper would jam when I was dumb enough to try to feed paper, cards, or envelopes through the manual feeder that weren''t completely flat. Unjamming was a piece of cake. I''ve also not had a problem with it being too loud. I don''t keep it on all the time and I don''t print while someone is trying to sleep. I''ve never experienced any high-pitched squeal that others have written about.

The only criticism that I do agree with is that it takes a large amount of energy to operate. When I print, the lights start to dim and I turn off other energy guzzling appliances. But if you''re the type that likes to blow-dry your hair with the microwave on while printing on a laser printer all at the same time, you might want to consider... a gas-powered microwave!... or... the "wet hair look!"

To sum it all up, my printer works wonderfully and I was pleased that it did not exhibit some of the nasty things some of the reviews had mentioned. Good luck!

I''ve been struggling to keep my Apple Laserwriter 16/600 running with linux for several years. It''s been fantastic. But after my last upgrade to SuSE 8.2, I ran into several problems getting the drivers installed and configured. So, I finally decided it was time to get a new printer. I chose this printer because it is well supported under linux, prints very fast at 17 pages per minute, has a fast first print time (under 10 seconds) and unlike the HL-1440 comes with 8MB of memory for printing larger files. It''s also PCL6 compatible so it will work with just about any operating system. I had this printer out of the box, plugged in, configured and printing a PDF file in less then 20 minutes. It''s also dead silent when not printing.

The only problems I''ve noticed is that fields of solid black appear to have nearly invisible faint gray lines, and text could be printed a bit darker. But this could be due to the newness of the printer, toner saver settings, etc.

If you''re looking for a great laser printer for a home linux system seriously consider this one. ...

I have been looking for a laser printer for my home office for while, but wasn''t ready to spend $450+. This printer was on sale at a major office supply chain for under $200 so I thought, why not? There is a plastic-y smell when printing, as mentioned by another reviewer, but I was assured by a very helpful customer service rep. at Samsung that it would go away. I had no trouble setting up the software for my Mac. I''m a graphic designer and was concerned about print quality the color seems to be quite accurate, though the detail/solid color coverage does look a bit "grainy". Warm-up and printing speed are quick. There is an 1-year ON SITE warranty. For the price I paid I feel like it''s a good, maybe great, value.

Not sure what happened to Jazzy from Boise, but...here is my story. I bought this printer for $17*.** from Office*****, got the printer home, unpackaged it, put in toner, plugged in network cable, printed a demo/test page by holding in the "online" button and then releasing it, installed the network setup cd, software autoplayed, software saw my printer immmediately, software finished, printer installed perfectly. IP address was automated based on my network and router settings. Simple. Extremely fast, brilliant colors, detailed photos somewhat grainy, but remember, this is not a photo printer...so the resolution is lacking in that area just a little. Over all for the price...great printer, just FYI, I would suggest either refilling your own toner cartridges or buying refurbished...otherwise they are just under $13* each new at OD.

I''ve only had this printer for a few days and I agree that the documentation on this printer is poor. However all that is required to set this printer up on a wired LAN is to install the printer driver from the installation CD on each PC on your network. There is no need to use the included network utilities unless you want to change the IP settings on the printer, itself. Default is DHCP, and my printer was assigned an IP address by my router with no issues.

Choose ''typical network set-up'' (second choice) and your printer will be found. Check the box and drivers will be installed and you are done.

The printer does emit a heated plastic smell upon power-up, but it is very quiet at idle and the smell has mitigated significantly over the last two days.

I have owned this printer for about a year. We mainly use printers for black ink output and occasionally for color. We decided on a laser printer since we were going through deskjet cartridges like they were water.

The problem with this printer is it consumes cyan (yellow) ink along with the black ink for black & white only copies. It also seems to consume the blue and red ink, but at a slower rate.

At the end of year, we went through 2 black cartridges (as expected), a yellow cartridge and about 80% of the blue and red cartridges.

What made this situation worse was that the printer would not allow me to print using only the black cartridge. Once the yellow ran out, I couldn''t print anymore, in spite of having plenty of black ink left.

After pricing the colored cartridges, it was evident that I no longer wanted a color laser printer, as the three color cartridges totaled over $400 with tax. I ended buying a Brother multi-function unit (print, copy, fax, scan) for about half the price of the Samsung cartridges.

It is clear to me that Samsung designed these elements into this printer. In the process, they lost a customer, as I will never trust Samsung products again.

HP Photo paper is by far the best of all the paper I have used, and not just in HP printers. My ... Epson Stylus, when set to its highest resolution, prints just as well as my ... HP photo printer on this paper, although not nearly as fast. The paper has far more to do with the quality of the image than the printer, and this is the best paper you can get.

You can not get better color from your computer printer for pictures then by using Hewlett Packard Glossy Paper. HOWEVER

unless you live in 30% Relative Humidity year round it will wrinkle like a lasagna noodle. Bite the bullet and buy the much more expensive Premium PLUS Photo Paper unless you want to keep your pictures under glass or only show them in the winter. Please note, under glass does not mean in a frame, they will wrinkle there also.

I ordered 4 of HP Premium Photo Paper, Glossy (C6979A, 8.5x11, 50 Sheets) and what I received was 4 of HP Premium Photo Paper, Matte (Q1994A, 8.5x11, 50 Sheets). It was not worth the trouble to try and return or exchange as we were in need of the product when it arrived so we will have to make do I am just disappointed that I did not receive the product that I ordered.

Epson Presentation Paper MATTE (S041067) Save 34% off

Epson Presentation Paper MATTE
  • Photo-quality paper
  • Matte finish, heavier weight, bright white paper
  • Legal size (8.5 by 14 inches)
  • Specially formulated for higher-resolution Epson printers (Stylus 600, 800, and 3000)
  • 100 sheets

This is listed as photo quality paper. It is not. It is a heavier grade of inkjet paper with a decent brightness rating, but it does not produce photo quality prints. Whether glossy or matte, as this item is listed, photo paper implies a certain level of color and resolution; the print I made as a test run has the "washed" appearance and lacks vibrance in the colors, typical of general use printer paper. It is a nice quality paper for printing more durable documents for presentations (as it states) but I needed photo paper. If you want good, photo quality prints: try the Inkpress brand of photo luster paper; it is much more expensive, but produces the results you would be looking for.

This paper is a fine product. I''ve bought many packages of it over the years. It produces very sharp images even when printing on the "Speed" setting. Very nice matte finish paper is not real thin but it is not thick either. I really like it I hope it will be always be available it''s a great alternative to other kinds of papers and the legal size is a real plus for many situations.

These work great. Total pro look when inserted into dvd case. Your artwork will print out correctly and not get cut off. Better than the gloss paper.

This is not Photo Paper. As a matter of fact on the package I got it says:

"Presentation Paper Matte Formerly Photo Quality Paper" It''s about as thick as regular paper and has no gloss. Only thing I can think of is that is a little bit better quality than regular paper.

This is Presentation Paper not photo paper. I use it to make DVD case covers without having to worry that part of the image is cut off. Colors are good if you make sure you print on the bright white side. The paper is only slightly heavier than regular 20lb copy paper so I would not recommend for photos.

Canon CP-200 Photo Printer Save 49% off

Canon CP-200 Photo Printer
  • 300 x 300 dpi resolution, dye-sublimation technology for rich color
  • Prints 4-by-6-inch snapshots in as little as 85 seconds
  • Supports PictBridge for direct digital-camera printing, no PC required
  • Portable pocket-sized convenience, weighs less than 29 ounces
  • USB interface, PC and Mac compatible; 1-year warranty

The photos produced by this printer move home digital photography into a new realm. They are as good, or better, than 35mm prints. The brilliant vivid saturated colors have to be seen to be appreciated, and they also have an archival coating.

The prints are a bit expensive at $0.55 each, but since you only print the good ones, and you can modify the image before printing, I think it is worth it. Maybe if everybody buys one the media will get cheaper. It is quite slow but you can batch print. Of course the prints are 4X6 inches maximum, but that is 98% of what I print.

I did have a problem during installation due to a conflict with my HP5550 USB printer. Make sure to turn off the HP printer manager or it won''t work. Direct printing from a camera is extremely easy, so you can make prints for friends.

We bought this unsure of what results we would get....We first purchased a Canon A70 digital camera and then this little photo printer. We are very impressed. The prints are as a good as any print shop photos. Its portable and its fun to print out pics for your family and friends on the spot.

The main reason we stayed away from inkjet for family pics is lifespan (25yrs). These pics are coated with a protective layer good against UV and moisture.

The printer itself is wonderful, you could almost fit it in your pocket. The problem is, you have to plug it into the wall, and you have to plug it into your camera. It cost a lot less than the battery powered canon photo printer. So for me, it is worth having to plug it in. Next, it really does print in 90 seconds, once it starts to print, but figure up to another 90 seconds to get the data from your camera into the printer. Next, you can give the photo a bath in water and it will come out just fine. But don''t be tricked into thinking that a $129 printer is going to do as good as the $129,000 developing machines. Sometimes, the photos will surprise you at how good they are though.

Having said all of that, once you get it plugged in, and the photo into the printer, the party does begin. The photo goes back and forth three time, first yellow, then red, and then blue. That makes you wonder, how did they do that. How do they know just the right amount of color to use.

Then if you can get over the fact you paid about fifty cents for a print, it is sort of a nice print. On borderless prints it does flatten the photo a bit. Canon says it stretches the photo out to the border. The solution for this is to print with a border. The photo will not go to the edge of the paper, but you will not have a photo that is stretched or flattened to fit the 4 by 6 size. SLR camera of course are already 4 by 6, my point and shoot is 4.5 by 6. I would rather they cut or crop the .5 off, rather than to "stretch" or flatten the photo.

This printer it is pretty solid, it looks like it will hold up pretty good. As if Cannon is hoping to be able to sell you lots of paper and ribbons. I am sure that you will pay Cannon $500 to $1000 for supplies before this printer would ever start to get old or wear out.

They are durable photos, I am sure 100 people could handle them and they would not show to much wear and tear. This is a party trick, there is no doubt about it. If your looking for a WOW effect for your next get together, go for it. If you want to keep feeding your money into this little gem, I am sure it will keep giving you photos to pass around to your friends.

I would like to see the price of the photos come down closer to the 29 cents it cost to get digital photo''s developed at the online servies where we can set up our photo albums. Or at our local Target or Walmart store. I just wonder if the WOW effect is worth paying the extra price. But I hear there are people who sell these photos out in the clubs for $10, so I suppose you could turn it into a profitable business.

The technical support at Canon is very good, if you need any help getting your cp-200 set up with your computer or camera. Their software is reasonable to work with, I have seen a lot worse photo software out there. It works with your computer just fine, if you want to hook it up to the computer.

I got the Canon powershot A60 for christmas, so i got this afterwards to go along with it. There are alot of hidden things not mentioned that made me waste almost 40 dollars. The camera to the printer...is a great print. But when i purchased the printer, i purchased canon 4 by 6 paper, that is not "postcard paper" and it does not work. It says the printer is out of paper. there''s 12.99 wasted. then i bought "card size" paper and ink....and found out you need a "card size paper cassette" to print with that paper, which is not included, and i cannot find it for purchase. there''s another 19.99 blown.

I loaded the software on my laptop, an HP pavillion. Since i purchased, on 12/30, i have not been able to print via my computer. Once i finally got my computer to recognize the printer was hooked up, it still wouldnt print. It says to check the power. I''ve done all the troubleshooting and used all the "help" options. I''ve had my father fiddle with it, to no avail. i can still not print from my computer.

All in all, even though i get pretty good prints(which sometimes have ink splotches) ...this is more hassle then 179.00 is worth. I think it was too expensive and they didnt put enough thought into what was included(i had to drop another 20 bucks for a USB hook up, to attach the printer to the computer), and were not specific about the paper and ink. if i could i''d return it and get something a little more user friendly...

I used this printer with my Digital Rebel. It fed the paper almost immediately and started the printing process. Photos were done quickly. I find it valuable when visiting friends and family. I am able to leave photographic memories immediately. As for the price of photos, I don''t print every photo that I take, only ones that I can''t wait to print before I get home on my computer. This is definitely a nice little tool that can even be put in your camera bag. Don''t expect to find cheaper replacement ribbons on the third party printer cartridge sites.
