Works great. Edges break clean (just have to make sure you fold the edges first -then the cards should ''snap'' off). Don''t just try to tear them off -make sure you fold the edges first.

You can print on the front and back, but the coating is different between them. If you''re going to print front and back, I would suggest that whatever art / info is more important, use the front to print.

I used these to print music download cards. For the front, I had the album art work. On the back, just text (URL of where to download the music). I tested the art work on the back of the card and it didn''t look as nice.

EDIT 27 AUG 2010 There is now a firmware update that addresses the lockup issue. Took them a while to get this out while so many were frustrated, so I won''t change my rating. (Delete the spaces)

HP is aware of an issue with the C47XX line of printers where the wireless may lock up the printer completely resulting in a bricked printer. The way this happens is during wireless setup. If the SSID which the printer is looking for is not 13 chars long, wireless setup will fail and there is a good chance that the printer will lock up and display HP logo and infinite progress bar on the LCD display. Nothing will function (some get USB fucntionality) and your printer is now bricked. When this happened to me, I immediately called CS. Their ''fix'' was to issue a $140 voucher to HP shopping site for a new printer, since they already know the C47XX line is flawed with no real fix. So I happily accepted the voucher (worth almost twice as much as the printer) and went shopping for anything BUT an HP printer.

But then I decided to tinker around with my new paperweight after I got two nice 8" digital photo frames and a premium webcam free compliments of HP. Using my noggin, I figured if the problem arose from the wireless, then unplugging the wireless module inside might reset the printer. Voila! It worked and, after a few more steps, I had a fully working wireless printer again. If you are having this same lockup issue, read this thread and my procedure for fixing the lockup and getting wireless to work:

UPDATE (05/06/11):

By now this product is quite old considering all the products out there.

I still love it, it continues to function and uses the least amount of ink when compared to all the printers I have ever used.

I would buy a new one just because when this came out there was not AirPrint support.

The issue with restarting the printer has gone and the printer is always online.

UPDATE (01/23/10):

I have been using it with my wireless network, although after a couple of days I have to restart the printer in order to print from it, otherwise it does not show up in my active printers list.

ORIGINAL POST:

Have been using it for a week.

Scan, copy, printing all work perfect.

Have enjoyed using this printer.

It uses only two inks and they are cheap, a twin pack costs about $30 which is really cheap.

Love it.

The install and connection to the network went flawlessly. The print quality is very good. Unfortunately, the HP scanner software does not work with Vista. I spent countless hours on the phone with HP tech support. The case was finally referred to the Engineering Department. They are aware of the problem but don''t have a fix yet.

By the way, you can use the scanner with the "Windows Photo Gallery" program. I really like the small footprint and the print quality of this all-in-one, and therefore I didn''t return it. I will just use the other program until HP can come up with a fix. Because the HP software doesn''t work for scanning, I cannot use the button on the printer to scan. I have to go through the PC. That''s why I only gave this printer three stars.

After three hours on the phone with an HP rep we could not get the scanner to function. Three hours and they can''t help me get the product working! They should pay me to for having bought it.

''Similarly the wireless functionality was difficult to get working. After a connection was established, it was lost. After multiple connection losses, I plugged the printer directly into my router. This has solve the majority of the problems. Nonetheless, I occasionally lose connectivity to the printer. As the on/off switch doesn''t function, I have to unplug the printer at the wall outlet. How crazy is that?!!

I bought a similar product for my mother-in-law and had the same problems!

The HP engineers need to go back to the drawing board on the Photosmart All-in-one lineup.

This printer is a extremely hard to setup wirelessly for both PC''s running XP or Mac running snow leopard. It is hard to configure and depending on your network often needs to be rebooted. If you like to just logon and print things don''t buy this printer. Also, the tech support via chat is of no value. They kept me on for 3 hours, only to send me a link and tell me to follow what was on that page and then still not have it work. I am extremely disappointed with a product and I can''t believe it is from HP. Just look under hp support about this printer if you don''t believe me.

In contrast to the HP glossy advanced photo paper, this "art" paper

literally drinks ink. IF you choose the correct "type" of image,

the results are excellent, and the photo truly looks like a

painting. The thickness of the paper makes it particularly well

suited for framing and matting. I have to admit, that finding

an image that looks "better" on this paper vs. the photo paper

is difficult... it is a personal preference and stylistic issue.

The paper is expensive, the amount of ink it absorbs also makes

a print expensive, but for the "right" photo, it is worth the price.

REVLAR(TM) Waterproof Laser Printer Customizable Luggage tags 8.5x11" 7.7mil 4-up

REVLAR(TM) Waterproof Laser Printer Customizable Luggage tags 8.5x11'' 7.7mil 4-up
  • Customizable Luggage or Equipment tags material prints in any laser printer - 4 to a page - Durable, tear resistant and waterproof to withstand rain, heat and temperature variations; deters grease, solvent and chemicals
  • Superior laser image quality with the appearance, smoothness and printability of standard paper; works in any standard laser printer
  • Cost-effective to use; more affordable-and faster to produce-than laminated materials
  • Long lasting to save on replacement costs
  • Print and Customize Door hangers Whenever You Want!

When these print correctly they look great and are tough as nails, unfortunately they are difficult to work with.

There were two main issues with the Revlar which were consistent across multiple high quality laser printers (both color and monochrome)

1) Printing was quite unreliable I believe because of issues with heat transfer causing poor annealing of the toner. The die cuts allowed too much heat through and caused blotching and what looks like bleeding sometimes well inside the 1/8" margins suggested. In other areas the thick material prevented sufficient heating and resulted in very light or blotchy printing

2) The other issue that made the Revlar tags un-useable for our purposes was the thickness and slickness prevented automatic feeding (even in a tray specially engineered for thick materials). Approximately half the time the sheets were misaligned or simply not fed on every printer in every tray we tried. We do not have the time to waste manually feeding sheets for two sided printing.

Our waste on the first 100 sheets was about 50% and although a lot of that can be attributed to a learning curve even after we got the hang of it and adjusted our graphics margins way in we probably lost 20%

We are using the much thinner 073-40-02 Revlar paper for another laser printing application and without the cuts and thickness we aren''t experiencing the low print quality, poor annealing and die cut "bleed". It''s difficult to autofeed but we do have one printer that does so reliably. Not sure if tags half the thickness would be feasible, but it might solve 2 out of 3 of our problems thick sheet doesn''t anneal well or feed well but thin might make the die cut more of a problem...

I''ve been an Epson guy, then HP, and finally my wife and I can agree on a relatively trouble-free printer: the Canon (hers is the MP610). But first, I''d better qualify my endorsement: it''s undeniably influenced by color (I love that red, though Canon''s decision to "can it" suggests I''m in the minority) and price (for once I deserted Amazon in favor of ordering directly from Canon at a price so low I''d blush redder than the machine to disclose it).

I''ll say right off that this machine produces more colorful and sharp copy than another printer I''ve had a chance to audition--Canon''s 2-cartridge solution, the Pixma MX512--and it does so more quickly, efficiently and economically. Give the MX512 the advantage for those who need a FAX machine or who plan to print wirelessly with their mobile device equipped with Apple''s "Air Play." Indeed, the MX512 promises even more more "exotic" features, from video printing to "touch technology." I''m satisfied with the MP640 because the machine has been such a good soldier (except for the code-violating red uniform) for my basic needs: duplex printing, razor sharp text, and fast delivery. In the time it took me to brush my teeth, it printed out a double-sided 24-page instruction manual. And unlike some newer Canon printers, this one now has generic cartridges available and at a tiny fraction of the price of OEM cartridges. (I wouldn''t recommend them except for occasional or emergency, back-up use.) When using Canon cartridges, I never install a replacement cartridge until the machine "makes" me. In other words, no need to change cartridges simply because the machine alerts you that it''s time. That cartridge is good to the last drop, at which point the machine will stop printing and you''d better hope you remembered to stay one cartridge ahead of the empty color.

The machine is relatively quiet, though it likes a stable printer table (a desk-top should do) to contain its otherwise violent movements during operation. I''m sure the wireless feature works fine, though I''ve had insufficient reason to give it a try. The same is true of the included "photo-shop" with automatic touch-up. Whenever I run the numbers, the commercial markets like Walgreens come out ahead in cost. As for the included template designs, it would be a great idea--especially the staff paper for musicians--were it not for the ready availability of the same templates on various internet sites.

Having suffered through a number of printers ever since the dot-matrix days, I can say it''s a pleasure to find one that performs dependably and well (and appears, moreover, to have a good time doing it).

[Needed to come up with some grandkid photos in a hurry, so I simply copied them with the machine''s scanner and printed them out--at low quality rather than the interminably slow, high quality speed--and with no touch-up. You''d have difficulty distinguishing between the original and the copy. With iPhones'' improved built-in lenses eating into camera sales, Canon''s strong suit has got to be printers.]

[Re: wireless printing. Initially my thought was that I could enjoy the same wireless printing that my wife has with her MP610. However, since her machine is attached to our Time-Warner "access point," hers is the only machine that appears in my printer menu. I guess I could rig up another access point in my office (string an ethernet cable across the hall?) and see what happens. Simply not worth the hassle, whether your 2nd machine is a wireless MP640 or a wireless MX512. Go with a sure and simple, old-fashioned "wired" connection, and be assured of fewer things to go wrong!]

One acid test that I''ve been throwing at today''s digital photography printers is to see how closely a black and white print from the digital printer matches a darkroom produced photographic print. I miss film, darkroom chemicals, and the touch and feel of enlargers, and watching prints slowly resolve as they wash through the developing agent. But I especially miss the silvery blackness of the prints against the glistening whites of the paper.

The whites have been captured well. Inkjet paper, at its best, looks as good as photographic paper finally. But what about the blacks? Here, we''ve been dependent upon the ink to carry the day. And black ink doesn''t typically look just like the black of a monochrome print straight out of the wash sink.

The HP 38 line of ink comes incredibly close. Can I still tell the difference between a real print and an inkjet print? Sure, but the ink is becoming less the critical factor. With the HP printers, you can sometimes see the telltale sign of the geared wheel that drives the paper forward. And up close, you can see the spray of the inkjet on large solid areas of the image. But stand back a foot and those issues disappear. Now the question is simply: do the blacks match?

The HP38 Photo Black is about a 9 out of 10 where 10 would be a match for a photographic print. We''re real close now, with only an oil like sheen when the light strikes the print from a certain direction to differentiate the inkjet print from the real print.

As others have noted, these inks run out quickly. If you like 13x19 prints (that''s the whole reason to get the printer), then you''ll go through these quickly. And when they run out, it might just be in the middle of a picture. You can swap inks, however, in the middle of a print run should that happen so my rule of thumb is to have one extra of each cartridge, ordering another one as soon as I''ve fed the replacement to the printer.

The carts have expiration dates on them, however, so you want to make sure that it''s not going to sit on the shelf for two years before you feed your printer with it (the printer, amazingly, knows if the ink has expired and warns you and tells you that you''re voiding the warranty, blah blah blah, before accepting the offering).

So great ink, incredibly expensive per drop but you have no choice in the matter. If you have the printer, you must have the ink.

Buy HP 38 Photo Black Pigment Ink Cartridge in Retail Packaging Now

Five Stars because the HP 38 Photo Black Ink Cartridge was shipped immediately and arrived promptly in good condition. If you use HP 38 ink in your printer, you must have all eight colors in the HP 38 series for your printer to operate properly, so price is a big consideration. Buying blind can cost you more for a complete set of inks, including more than one cartridge for the light gray and a couple of other colors that are used up faster than the others, than a new printer, and in fact I have heard of people that simply buy a new printer (of a different make) because it''s cheaper than the inks. Amazon has a selection of vendors, but be wary I recently picked the lowest price for each color, mostly from one vendor, and when I went to check out I found that this particular vendor charged $9 per cartridge for shipping and handling, making them the most expensive vendor on Amazon.

I stock up on inks only occasionally. The trigger event is when the warning light on the printer for a particular color comes on, and I don''t have that color ready to change. When that happens, I check out what I do have, flesh out what I need to have a complete set including two of light gray, light cyan, and light magenta, and order them all, usually on Amazon. I like genuine HP inks on Amazon because that''s where the price, Amazon Prime free shipping, vendor reliability, and prompt delivery all come together. I need genuine HP inks because I have this printer for studio-quality color prints and I depend on it for my most-invested hobby, and I don''t have the time or patience to deal with cartridges that require color re-calibration or don''t provide the color fidelity that I expect of an 8-ink printer, or that don''t last as long as HP 38 ink cartridges. One of the reasons that I selected this printer was the combination of quality prints, low cost per print, and long life of the ink cartridges, a rare combination.

I recommend genuine HP 38 inks to anyone with a printer that calls for these inks, and recommend Amazon.com as the first place to check for best price. You can depend on Amazon and their associated vendors to deliver the right product promptly every time.

Is this good ink? Um...sure. It''s at least as good as any other, so by all means don''t hesitate to buy it based on quality. That said, it comes in tiny cartridges that don''t last long -especially the blacks -and are about $30 each, which wouldn''t be so bad except the printer in which I use them (HP''s B9180) requires 8 of these cartridges to even operate. Thus, it''s a rather expensive printer for a small business to keep operational, unless your circumstances allow you to charge clients for this expense as part of your projects. Most of my clients, on the other hand, would balk at that. But I digress.

Anyway, I should also note that when I say that I think this cartridge is overpriced, that does not mean that you should buy a generic alternative cartridge for less instead. Not only would they probably not be guaranteed to last 200 years, but to my knowledge, you can''t. They do not exist. Which is all the more reason to consider again whether this is the way to go.

Of course, you may read this and think, "Hey, that''s more an indictment of the printer than of the ink cartridge." True enough, but given their intertwined relationship, I think it''s fair to point out that if you are now exploring the real costs of operating a piece of machinery for your office (the B9180), it''s definitely worth looking around some more to see if you might get just as good a capability via another printer at a lower ink cost.

You''re thinking these look like the tags they tie around the toes of dead people in the basement of the morgue. If you''re like me, you probably watch too many crime shows on television. I am NOT tying these around the toes of dead people, but rather am using them for adorable gift tags. They are sizable, which gives me room to write a longer sentiment (or, a shorter sentiment in larger script.) They look great with kraft paper and twine. They do the job.

The supplier is always fast and accurate. The tags are very useful for labeling clothing items.

These tags are great. I use them to label my carboys of home-brewed beer. The tags are very durable and there is plenty of room to write. The paper absorbs ink well, and there is plenty of string attached for tying secure knots as well.
