  • Get work done fast, with a print speed of up to 30 ppm, a first-page-out time less than 9 seconds and a 400MHz processor to ensure all jobs print quickly and accurately, even when they are loaded with graphics
  • 1200 image quality print resolution delivers exceptional print quality without slowing down the powerful performance of the 3250
  • Automatic two-sided printing saves valuable time and paper.
  • What Comes in the Box: Printer, print cartridge (capacity: 2,000 pages), power cord, USB cable, software and documentation

The printed output is fine. The drivers are horrible.

I hate background utilities that must standby and occupy resources in order for the equipment to function. I have never had an Epson operate this way.

If the print manager is removed from the system tray (not run at start-up), you are sunk.

The drivers and utilities must be uninstalled then manually removed from the XP registry.

If the preceding removals are not accomplished, Windows XP may hang during a reboot.

Also, the USB port to which the printer is attached will report a malfunction.

Initially, I thought it was the communications board. So, I disassembled the unit for a look.

Everything seemed well. However, as an experienced technician, I can declare the electronics assembly a fairly haphazard design. I insulated and grounded the comm. board properly.

All in all, typical Xerox junk made in China.

This printer is very good for the price. I have had no issues with the printer whatsoever. I would defintely recomend this printer. Prints good, not sure how much the tonor cartridge is but so far happy with my purchase.

About six months ago I bought this printer to use as a non-networked printer hooked up to my Dell Latitude laptop running Windows 7. I had no trouble hooking it up and it has run flawlessly ever since when printing 8.5 X 11 letterhead. Unfortunately, the printer does not work well with envelopes as it consistently wrinkles the envelopes during the printing process and heat seals the gum on the flap. I can usually separate the flap and re-seal it once the letter is folded and inserted in the envelope, and with a little effort I can straighten out the wrinkles. But really.... What is the utility of a laser printer that mauls envelopes?

If the envelopes were not a problem I would rate this printer with 5 stars; as is, I can only give it three stars because the envelope treatment rates only one star. It''s very frustrating. Fortunately for me I am not a high volume user and some of my print jobs to not require envelopes, so I can fiddle around with this when necessary. I may also go to labels or window envelopes if I can''t get this fixed so it does the whole job.

Edit: In case anyone wonders, I have tried it with two different brands and quality of envelope with the same result. I checked Xerox''s specs for envelopes and mine meet them.

Xerox customer support is non-existent. If you can talk with technical support during the warranty period, you will get "follow the direction on the web site". After warranty expires, Xerox requires a $25 payment to talk with customer service. Xerox also doesn''t provide working drivers for older printer models on new operating systems such as Windows 7. Save yourself some time and money and buy from a company that understands the meaning of "customer" and "technical support".

I bought one of these for my office. Worked like a pro. Now I''m in the process of replacing all of our older HP printers with these. As soon as I changed the default "sleep" settings, haven''t heard a complaint yet.

OS X.6 picked it right up. WinXP same thing. Did need to install the software for XP, but didn''t mind. Works flawlessly.

Canon KC-36IP Color Ink Paper Set Save 13% off

Canon KC-36IP Color Ink Paper Set
  • For use in Canon CP-100, CP-200, and CP-300 printers
  • 36 photo sheets
  • Convenient credit card size
  • Includes color ink ribbon
  • Genuine Canon quality accessory

The product description is unfortunately not sufficiently clear: this paper refill is credit-card size, not the more common 4x6. It requires a special paper cassette that does not come with the printer and must be purchased separately (PCC-CP100). The dye-sub film and the paper cassettes are keyed and the printer will refuse to work if they don''t match.

In terms of print quality, you get the classic Canon mini dye-sub results: spectacular. Just make sure this is what you want to order, and check that you have the required paper cassette to avoid unpleasant surprises.

I bought it with what I thought were optimistic expectations, and was VERY surprised at how much more I got than I expected.

The print quality is AMAZING, even under a magnifying glass.. they are exactly like a photo... better than my Epson Stylus Pro 1280, but only 4" x 6".

My wife is crazy about it so it''s a keeper.

I''ve seen a few reviews rating this product poorly. Howver, for me, it''s worked great for printing business cards. The printer colors are slightly different on the actual card than in Photoshop, but I just adjust in Photoshop until the printout is right, then print away.

  • Adjustable 250-sheet capacity paper tray
  • Manual feed slot for envelopes or thicker media

This is my first color laser printer. I''m accustomed to black/white laser jets (HP, Dell, Konica Minolta). I was a little astonished by the size and weight of this machine. The picture is not a good perception of the scale/size of the printer. The printer weighs nearly 50lbs and the box is very, very large.

The size and weight aside, this printer is amazing for the price. My only complaint is that when I try to print photo quality (2400dpi), it says it needs more memory. But for a sub-$200 printer, I think this printer is perfect for your standard documents and prints. The colors look beautiful and there is no streaking.

I am pleased with the way the printer works. It is smooth running and has all you need for home/small business and it is fast.

This printer has a small footprint whick is great for small places. I replaced my old Oki C5200 and it took up less then half the space. I wished Brother made ,I am sure they could, bigger volume of toner cart''s. I would recommend this printer to the small volume user.

Excellent print quality and speed. Whereas I used to have to wait a good amount of time for my Epson inkjet to startup and fight with it to "catch" the paper, this printer gives me none of those headaches.

That said, it did give me a headache when linking it to my MacBook Pro (10.7.x). I followed the provided directions to the letter when hooking the printer up via USB, and installing the provided installation software. I was unsuccessful. I went to Brother''s website, registered the printer, uploaded both the current driver information and firmware update, and still no success. I then checked for "Software Updates" from Apple itself, and found that there was one for Brother.

In other words, install the drivers and firmware update(s) from Brother''s website and then install the corresponding software updates provided via Apple. It will save you the headache I acquired.

This printer arrived with a defective yellow cartridge that printed a yellow streak down the side of every page. I contacted the seller and have never heard a thing back from them.

This thing also puts a wicked curl into every page unless you use the rear trap door exit, but if you use that it won''t bleed off the static charge it puts on every page and then pages stick together tenaciously for a while. That wicked curl prevents using the paper tray for duplex printing, so that "feature" doesn''t exist in any usable way. For duplex you are thus required to put one page at a time in the manual feed slot in the front, but that is so sensitive to having the paper inserted only the EXACT depth into the slot that I get a paper jam signal nine times out of ten. The only way to recover from a phantom paper jam with this machine is to either cycle down the power or to open the lid and remove all four cartridges. Of course, printing one envelope is a major chore.

I have another Brother printer that is an unstoppable gem, but avoid this turkey at all costs and avoid Super Deal, the non-responsive seller.

HP Color LaserJet 3700N Laser Printer

HP Color LaserJet 3700N Laser Printer
  • True 600 x 600 dpi resolution, first page out in 18 seconds
  • Up to 16 ppm in both color and black only
  • 64 MB RAM standard memory, expandable up to 448 MB
  • 350-sheet standard input paper capacity, expandable to 850 sheets
  • USB and parallel interfaces; HP Jetdirect 615n internal EIO print server

This uses 5 laser cartridges. When you run out of a color, it stops. You cannot get any more life out of a cartridge by shaking to redistribute the toner. You cannot opt to print anyway. Hence, if you need copies in a hurry for a meeting and you happen to be the one using the printer when it runs out, you have to stop and insert the new cartridge right then and there. These cartridges are expensive. The print is good, but then again, that is because you get so little life out of the cartridges.

This order was received on time and intact. After installing the software and printing a "test page", we selected a digital picture of multi-colored reef on the ocean floor and printed on hi-glossy photo paper. The printed image looked as if we had the picture developed from a professional photo print shop.

The only issue has been in finding replacement printer cartridges from internet supply shops at discount prices. If we have to buy these cartridges (2 black, one magenta, one yellow, and one blue) from Epson, that could be the downside to the selection of this particular printer.

This thing is worthless I first bought this printer after reading a few reviews that seemed decent. It did a nice job printing, but I realized it sucked up the ink like a vacuum. Ok I just was careful about how much stuff I printed. I recently had to replace a cartridge (just one mind you) so I did. The printer told me the same cartridge replaced was still out of ink. Since there were two black cartridges, I bought another still no go. Now it is telling me the yellow is out too I replaced ALL the color cartridges too still the same result. I have gone thru all the standard troubleshooting, cleaning of printheads and everything else I can think of.

This thing is a piece of junk and it makes me sick that I not only wasted money on the printer, but on several brand new cartridges in an effort to make it work. This thing lasted less than 3 months from the time I walked out of the store til it crapped out on me. I would avoid this printer like the plague.

I have been buying Epson products for years and have generally been very happy. When I bought the C88 (the old name for this printer), after a month it started spewing ink all over the place. A long distance call to Epson resulted in them sending me a new one. Two weeks into using the new one, my color cartridges were half full. I found this extremely odd as I only printed black text. Now, 4 weeks later, several of my color cartridges are empty, and I still haven''t printed anything in color! Makes you wonder where the ink is going. Well, it isn''t going anywhere. Removal of the cartridges proved that they were still full. Blowing the printer heads was no help. My black cartridges are still almost full, but I can''t get the printer to print correctly, I keep getting inkless bands across my text. Blew the heads several times but it didn''t help. I wrote to Epson, they answered back with their standard formatted reply: call us. Long distance, no 800 number, so we can tell you once again we will replace the printer. No thanks! You can keep this piece of junk. I am now looking into HP and Cannon printers...........

The first printer was dead out of the box. Epson sent me a second one and wants me to recycle the original.

It needs heads realignment at almost every use. I am also recharging the inks almost daily. It is so loud and shakes so much I can''t use it on my desk or talk on the phone if the printer is too close.

The first printer sent to us printed about 10 large pics and then started banding terribly. Amazon exchanged it for us and the second did not do that. However, it while it does make some nice prints, but needs a lot of adjustment to print the colors that are truly on the screen. Epson did not do well with this product. We went back to an R340.

I bought this printer over better reviewed color laser multi-functions because of my good experience with the b&w Canon MF4270. my large format color HP died, so now I needed color and color MF''s had scaled in price and size. Setup was easy enough, although the menus were deep and complicated. just finding how to set up Distinctive Ring required a call to tech support and I never call tech support. But I felt better when the question stumped two techs. Then the problems began, the next morning the machine disconnected from the USB connection after entering ''Sleep'' mode requiring a reboot of the printer. Then I spent two hours a day with Canon tech support, every day since receiving the printer and they couldn''t fix it. Next I was unable to set paper defaults, every print job involving the MF tray requires user input and I couldn''t print more than one page of anything (checks, letterhead, etc) because placing more than one sheet in the MF tray causes a ''jam'' every single time. Canon clearly states this possible but in reality it does not work. Canon''s solution to turn off any default thereby requiring direct input from me to menu thru and tell the printer what kind of media I was inserting. Crazy, right? you must also ''wake'' the printer to begin any task except receiving faxes. it''s also really noisy, a print job finishes and printer grinds on and on. I will say the color output was excellent.

I returned it and now have a Brother MFC9320CW that does everything with zero input on my part and it''s wireless and a couple of bucks cheaper.

I thought this MFP would be a little easier to use from reading pre-reviews and Canon''s hype. It takes a while to wake up and is quite noisy. In order to use an envelope one has to fumble through the LCD menu to set it for envelopes. Print quality is good but it certainly takes a a while to spit out the 1st page. I had to turn the sleep mode timer all the way up so it doesn''t take as long. If you have this in your work area, expect it to be noisy. When I print from a network printer I cannot do any other task on that computer until the job finishes spooling, quite annoying, none of our other network MFPs cause that. It is a competitively priced unit initially but a complete toner change is 72% the cost of a new rig. I think I would spend the extra money on a higher end unit, I like our Brother MFP but it was black & white and we needed a splash of color.

I have had this unit for about a month. Being that is a brand new line for Canon the support has been a little slow. Still waiting to learn how to scan legal sized docs. For now I have to Copy and reduce to letter size to get all the info without being cropped. The only other complaint is that while the unit is working it is quite loud. Luckily once it has finished the job it goes silent. The color replication is better than I have seen in other units by far. Most photo copies are indistinguishable from the original color wise. The fax works fine and as a printer it is fast and efficient. Like the title says, so far so good.

Want Canon Color imageCLASS MF8050Cn All-in-One Laser Printer (3556B001AA) Discount?

Very easy to setup and connect to network. Scanner speed to USB media stick is excellent and efficient. The printer noise is slightly high, but not so loud that one cannot carry on a conversation. There is "power up" from sleep mode time delay, approximately 2 minutes, not too bad. In a small business environment, this printer is great because it does FAX, scan, color print and copy. One can get basic machine info and configuration by using web browser interface, simply type in the IP address into the URL . My only slight criticisms are the following. Support documentation is weak, not very Mac friendly (cannot scan using network using Mac, Wintel you can), stingy OEM ink cartridges, color replication needs to be tweaked for proper color matching.

I bought this printer because I''ve had good luck with Canon products. I own several Canon cameras and have used a B&W ImageCLASS MF6550 for years as an office fax/scanner/printer. I wanted to go to color and it only made sense that Canon would be the right manufacturer and when I found such an attractive price for the MF6050Cn I decided to get it. While the setup was fairly easy the product really disappointed me.

The one thing I expect from a color printer/copier is good quality color. When I printed one of our brochures the color was off in the blue end of the spectrum, and that was after following the detailed color calibration procedure (never saw a process for color recalibration on my HP Color Laserjet 2605dn). Unfortunately, the recalibration was useless, and so I contacted Support. They sent me a procedure for color correction but that didn''t work well.

There are other issues with this product that I could have lived with. The printer is fairly noisy, and it takes way too long to print the first page of a document. I might have tried living with those problems if the color was true. Sadly, this product is being returned.

Inkjet Printable Temporary Tattoo Paper 10 Sheets

Inkjet Printable Temporary Tattoo Paper 10 Sheets

  • This removable tattoo paper is for inkjet printers, these tattoos are easy and fun to use and the creative possibilities are endless!
  • 10 Sheets8.5"x 11"
  • New Technology 100% Compatible with Inkjet

This item was not really what I was expecting. These are more like stickers than temporary tattoos. The finish is glossy and the tattoo wrinkles when your skin moves. I only wore mine for an hour, then I peeled it off like a band aid. Of course, this may be true for all temporary tattoo paper. I haven''t tried any other brands.

My tattoo paper seemed to be missing half the instructions. I had to go to the manufacturer''s website to find the complete instructions. Printing and application were easy once I found the correct instructions.

I might use these again as decals for a different project, but I won''t be using them on my skin. Might be cute for a kid''s party, if you don''t care about the quality and durability.

Buy Inkjet Printable Temporary Tattoo Paper 10 Sheets Now

I agree with the other reviewer who complained that this paper doesn''t make particularly good TATTOOS. However, I purchased it for craft use it works basically like decal paper, and for that, it is quite effective.

As the other reviewer also noted, half the instructions are missing. Apparently the instructions are on two sides of a sheet, and only one side seems to be photocopied and included in the pack. Even the full instructions are somewhat less than clear, though I finally found a Youtube video that explained things. So here''s how it works:

1) Set up your designs on an 8.5x11 sheet of paper. Print off a sheet just to make sure they all look the way you want. HINT: Darken or saturate the colors in your design, as they can print a bit pale on this paper. SECOND HINT: Irregular, branchy designs may work better than very round or square or blocky designs, if you are applying the tattoo to a curved surface; they provide more flexibility. (I used this to apply images to Easter eggs and it worked like a dream.)

2) Print your designs on the glossy side of a sheet of the tattoo paper. (Note that there are two types of sheets in the package; one is paper with a glossy front and plain back; the other is a sheet of adhesive-backed plastic with a paper backing. Be sure to print on the PAPER!) HINT: These images will come out "mirrored" i.e., backwards when you apply them. So if you have anything that needs to read correctly, be sure to "flip" your image before you print it!!

3) Let your printed sheet dry for a few minutes.

4) Start to peel the paper backing off a sheet of the adhesive-backed plastic. (Best approach: peel it away from the top of the sheet but leave most of it in place for now.) Very carefully position this sheet on top of your printed page. Press the adhesive sheet over the printed sheet it works best to apply it slowly by peeling off the backing while you''re pressing it down. Work to get out all the air bubbles. The main thing is, you want to get all your images covered with the clear adhesive plastic.

5) Now you can cut out your images. Cut as close to the image as you can (and if you have branchy bits, cut out as much extra material as you can).

6) Next, get yourself set up to apply your tattoos to yourself, to eggs, to a craft project, whatever. The surface needs to be clean and dry. (If skin, it should be as hair-free as possible.) Peel the adhesive off the tattoo and position it where you wish to apply it. (Keep in mind that it will stick as soon as it touches, so be sure you have it where you want it.)

7) Use a damp sponge or damp cloth to blot the back of the tattoo (the dull side of the paper). This will cause the tattoo decal to slide off its backing. When the paper is thoroughly wet and you can see the tattoo image through it, you should be able to start peeling the paper backing away from the decal. If the decal isn''t sticking yet, blot it a bit more.

8) Once you''ve peeled off the paper backing, use your sponge or cloth to carefully blot the tattoo itself. This is to remove the remaining sticky gel and to ensure that all parts of it are sticking to the surface. Wipe from the center of the tattoo outwards at this point, so that you don''t accidentally lift up an edge or peel off the tattoo. Let it dry and you''re done!

(And BTW, if this is still confusing, just search on YouTube for the videos on "temporary tattoo paper" they really help.

printer is a glorified paper weight unless ALL cartridges are full. Yes....this means you cannot print in black and white although the setting allow you to select black and white. Wait until you run out of ink in one color cartridge and you get a message that the printer will not print until it is replaced. Horrible business practices....people may buy for the initial lower price but once coerced to buy copious amount of unnecessary ink they will regret and not patronize lexmark.

Printer it self looks like a good design for home use, but when it comes to ink, despite of the fact that you want to use your printer black and white only print mode, you have to buy color ink as well. Printer wakes up 3am randomly and wastes remaining unused ink and depletes (cleaning it self!!) even if you don''t print so much, so long story short, lexmark''s terrible greedy business practice well ruins a good product. It does not worth of your cent, do not buy it unless they come up with a proper (less greedy) printer driver. And ask the same thing for other lexmark products as well before you buy it.

I have had this printer for several months now and I have already had a lot of trouble. I chose this brand and model from personal recommendations and reviews from other sources. They were all very good, so it might be this is the only one to have problems. Somehow, I think not. I started receiving printhead error messages right away. It needed cleaning, but the cleaning instructions say to remove the printhead. Maybe everyone else knows how to do that, but I don''t. Then it said that the ink was very low even though they were extended use cartridges and I had printed very little. I installed four new Lexmark brand cartridges, one in each color. Then it said that the cartridges were missing. So I switched them out and the old ones said that the ink was very low. I took that to indicated that at least I knew how to install them. I called customer service and they immediately said that they would send a new printhead. That was my indication that the problem was not new to them. Unfortunately, I needed to print that very day. So I went out and bought a $30 HP. I highly recommend that! It works perfectly.

Addendum: It is now January. Here I am still with this blasted printer. I have learned to hate it! It frequently says that the cartridges are missing and I am looking right at them. The new printer head came and is installed. Maybe it works a third of the time, but you really can''t count on having a printer. Many times it just says that the printer is not connected to the computer. I think that Lexmark has a real trouble maker here. Please do yourself a favor and don''t buy this printer!

The printhead won''t work after six months. I have to either replace or purchase another printer.. and it won''t be a lexmark.

I''ve had this printer for about a year. I highly suggest going with something else. I hate this printer so much! After hubby saw many great reviews on this while new, he put it on his Christmas list. His in-laws got it for us. I''m glad we didn''t pay for it but I wish it was better. Here are the pros and cons.

Pros:

It''s better than not having a printer

It has wireless capabilities

It has a scanner built in

You can make copies if you have all the ink (but that goes into a con when we are talking about ink)

Cons:

It''s very slow

The ink "runs out" way too fast (I''ve hardly used the ink and it all of a sudden says low ink when I know it''s full)

It''s hard to assign this printer to another computer when your old one needs replacing

Black and White printing doesn''t work if any of the colors run out

Sometimes it doesn''t shoot out some ink for a color if you print more than 5 pages at a time, leaving streaks

The ink is very expensive and you have to replace way too often

I can''t wait until we can cough up the cash for a new printer. I want to take this paper weight outside at a park and smash it up to pieces like they do in Office Space. Please do yourself a favor and save that money for something better than this piece of junk!

I bought this product because I like to take notes on half sheet paper. I was trying to find the brand that I wanted to take to graduate school. I think that this is a good product. I like that the paper is opaque and that there is no left margin. However, the paper is a little thin. I used to take notes on paper like this, except it was journal quality paper. I have not been able to find paper of that quality again.

I understand that this is a somewhat obscure paper size, but I really hate the huge number of holes on the left margin. I wish they had a product with only three holes, but I understand the need to cover several consumer bases for a limited product market.

  • Two 500-sheet input trays for a 1,100-sheet total input capacity
  • 128 MB memory expandableto 640 MB, and a 540 MHz processor

The printer is great and highly rated, but I jumped at the thoughts of having one for $335. I made the mistake of thinking that it was adjustable from 120 volts to 240 volts. NO SUCH LUCK! I am resourceful and for about $70 I bought a transformer from Litefuze model LR 1000 that converts 120 volts to 220 volts and the printer works great plugged into that. I do shut the transformer down when I am not using the printer as it draws power whether the printer is operating or not. The transformer has a power switch on the front that makes this an easy operation. I love the fact that the printer coughs out the first page in seconds and the next in rapid order. I am happy with the deal and it was definitly cheaper than buying a 120v printer of the same make and model.

Could have sworn this area was for reviews, not venting how one ordered the wrong cartridges. Anyway, I have not had any problems with these ink refills, the resulting print colors are great, the photos are adequate considering my particular Canon i550 printer is not a photo printer. They last fairly long too, compared to my previous Epson printer.

i agree with others that the canon ink systems are too closely named. you would think that a BCI-3E would fit a system that uses BCI-3E inks. we now find that it fits BCI-32e systems.

it is confusing and needlessly confusing.

First of all, the package contained the wrong colors. THe black did not fit the printer. None of the cartridges produced ink. I had to throw them all the way. Lesson? If the price sounds too good to be true, beware.. A $15 lesson.

The printer works fine with a USB cable but have not been able to connect wirelessly because the printer requires a Router to work wirelessly.

I bought a NeduaLink USB Adapter and have tried to connect but no results as yet.

There seems to be a Virtual Router for Win 7 out there but I have not found it as yet because all the so-called "free downloads" download all kinds of junk on your computer. and requires me to uninstall this stuff.

If anyone out there knows how I can download a free Virtual Router please let me know and I also can use some help in setting up a wireless connection. A ma zon ca n giv e yo my E m a il.

Epson Presentation Paper MATTE (S041067) Save 34% off

Epson Presentation Paper MATTE
  • Photo-quality paper
  • Matte finish, heavier weight, bright white paper
  • Legal size (8.5 by 14 inches)
  • Specially formulated for higher-resolution Epson printers (Stylus 600, 800, and 3000)
  • 100 sheets

This is listed as photo quality paper. It is not. It is a heavier grade of inkjet paper with a decent brightness rating, but it does not produce photo quality prints. Whether glossy or matte, as this item is listed, photo paper implies a certain level of color and resolution; the print I made as a test run has the "washed" appearance and lacks vibrance in the colors, typical of general use printer paper. It is a nice quality paper for printing more durable documents for presentations (as it states) but I needed photo paper. If you want good, photo quality prints: try the Inkpress brand of photo luster paper; it is much more expensive, but produces the results you would be looking for.

This paper is a fine product. I''ve bought many packages of it over the years. It produces very sharp images even when printing on the "Speed" setting. Very nice matte finish paper is not real thin but it is not thick either. I really like it I hope it will be always be available it''s a great alternative to other kinds of papers and the legal size is a real plus for many situations.

These work great. Total pro look when inserted into dvd case. Your artwork will print out correctly and not get cut off. Better than the gloss paper.

This is not Photo Paper. As a matter of fact on the package I got it says:

"Presentation Paper Matte Formerly Photo Quality Paper" It''s about as thick as regular paper and has no gloss. Only thing I can think of is that is a little bit better quality than regular paper.

This is Presentation Paper not photo paper. I use it to make DVD case covers without having to worry that part of the image is cut off. Colors are good if you make sure you print on the bright white side. The paper is only slightly heavier than regular 20lb copy paper so I would not recommend for photos.

Update 3/20/13

OCR optical character recognition is done using Omnipage16 by Nuance (see more below). It works very well but it has an annoying quirk. Omnipage16 will CRASH if the printer is not ready (set to Scan/Remote PC/Twain) before you tell it to scan a page. In this case, you MUST ctrl/alt/delete, start Task Manager, and close Omnipage16 from the Application tab. Then switch to the Processes tab and End the 2 Twain processes you will find on the list. Finally restart Omnipage16.

I purchased this from a major office supply company whose name starts with "S". I will update this review if my opinion changes.

My old all-in-one is an HP Officejet Pro 7580. It worked great for 16 months until the genuine HP ink began to leak. Replacing the ink did no good. It was costing a fortune to keep buying HP ink so I began using generics, but generics are NOT at all water resistant. The ink jets have slowly gotten clogged over time until the color does not work anymore and even B&W is iffy. I am feed up with ink jets! You cannot beat the per page cost of lasers, but what to buy?

Spec Comparison:

I compared the following similarly priced monochrome laser all-in-one printers: Brother MFC7860, Cannon imageCLASS MF4880, Cannon imageCLASS MF4890, Samsung SCX-4729FW, and Okidata MB451w. All scan in color. All have auto duplex print, but ONLY Okidata and the Canon 4890 have duplex (double sided) copy and scan. Okidata has a Duty Cycle (a measure of durability) of 50,000 pages per month while all the others are rated about 10,000 pages. The Okidata is not flimsy and weighs 44 lbs while the others weigh about 22-25 lbs. Samsung and Cannon have toner cartridge integrated with the drum (replaced whenever you replace the toner), while Brother and Okidata have a separate drum. Brother and Samsung have annoying 2-line displays while Cannon has 5 lines with backlight. Okidata''s 3.5 inch display has variable lines, but about 5-6 lines with backlight AND a help function. Print speed for Okidata is 30 cpm single sided and 17 cpm duplex (duplex is much faster than the other printers). Time to first page (in idle) is 5 seconds, but requires 25 seconds warm-up from Power Save, and even longer from Sleep.

Okidata Customer support: Live support 24 hours/day!

I called Okidata tech support several times, once getting though immediately, and the other times on hold for a few minutes. They claim the normal wait time is 60 seconds and that they have live support 24 hours/day! You will reach an actual person located here in the US or Canada and they don''t use a script with canned answers. When I called, they seemed both helpful and friendly and were able to answer my questions or quickly email me with the answer. Warranty for the US and Canada is one year ON SITE.

User manuals (basic, advanced and wireless setup):

The manuals are detailed, generally clear and well illustrated and are available on line. Update: as other reviewers have noted, a physical copy of the manuals are not in the box. Cannon and Brother have equally good manuals, but Samsung has an annoying pictogram type manual.

Installation and setup: easy

I have a fairly recent HP computer with Win 7, but drivers are available on-line for Win 8. Unpack, add paper and you are ready to copy. Wireless setup (using manual wireless setup) is only a few steps and is similarly easy IF you know your SSID (network name), password and security type (mine is WPA). It took much longer to read through the extensive manuals to see if I wanted to change any of the default options (for instance change fax auto answer to manual answer).

Function.

For the most part, the display menu system is self explanatory and guides the user in a helpful way. Many menus have a displayed "?" which means you can press the "help" button for more information. I see no problems with the print quality and Toner Saver seems almost as good. It prints fairly quietly (55dB), it is very quiet in Power Save and silent in Sleep. Power Save is 18 watts while Sleep is 3 watts. You can set it to turn off after a set amount of time. Both single side and duplex copying and printing are all a snap. Scanning from a PC is a bit confusing until you realize you have to select Scan/Remote PC (confusingly not Network or Local) on the printer, and then go to the PC. Then the ActKey software works great to scan it works much like the software for my HP inkjet printer and the color scan result is just as good as HP. I have not faxed yet.

Cost to Own:

The Okidata comes with a 1000 page starter cartridge. There are no generics. There are generics for Brother, Samsung and Cannon, but I see a lot of online complaints concerning generic toner. The Okidata toner currently sells for about $40 and has a spec of 1500 pages. This seems to be a roughly similar per page cost to Cannon and Samsung, but a higher cost to that of Brother toner, but Brother laser printers generally cost more upfront. Okidata claims a life of about 25,000 pages for their drum. For what ever it is worth, Okidata claims their "lifetime total cost to own" is substantially less than Samsung and slightly less than Brother.

Update 2/11/13:

A few printer makers have Android apps that allow wireless printing from your phone. Although Okidata does not have such an app, the Google Play store has a free app called Cloud Print which allows wireless printing from your phone to any printer connected to your PC (on a WiFi network). It works well from my Samsung phone to both my wireless Okidata printer and my old wired HP inkjet. Smart Office by Picsel also works, but costs a few dollars.

Update 2/12/13:

OmniPage SE ver 16 OCR software (by Nuance) is on the installation CD as a bonus, but Nuance does not provide any support, so I imagine this could potentially be a problem. Installation of OmniPage from the CD on my Win 7 computer went OK, except a start icon was not generated. I reinstalled ("repaired") and I still had to search for OmniPage (C:\Program Files (x86)\ScanSoft\OmniPage16\OmniPage16.exe). Once I had OmniPage running, it requested to setup the scanner (Okidata must be set to Scan/Remote PC). OmniPage has options of plain text, formatted text, and "True Page" and all gave perfect output as a Microsoft Word file.

The first reviewer did such a comprehensive review that there''s little more for me to say. The print quality is excellent! I haven''t tried to hook it up to the network yet. I''m using a usb to my desktop which does not have wifi.

To me, the setup was confusingly simple or should I say specious? I kept looking for a quick start booklet, but there was only a small print set of pictures. I finally found the dvd inside. It has the manual and quick start guide. Both of those are okay to follow. I had tried to install before reading thinking that the dvd would have detailed instructions but it did not. Everything is in the pdf''s. There''s a procedure to follow to connect the usb (not provided) and power cables. That has to be done before the drivers are installed. There''s nothing on the dvd to tell you to install them. There are little "i" icons next to the items in a list starting with software. You have to click the icons before stuff is saved from the dvd to your PC. I stumbled around a little thinking, "There must be more to it than this?", but copying and printing from the pc worked okay. I''m not used to installations being so easy.I didn''t contact Oki support at all.

This is like an office copy machine in size and it''s really heavy. It has a big footprint snd don''t even think about putting it on a shelf. I would say that it''s built pretty solid even if it is plastic. Isn''t everything? It''s here; It''s setup; It works. I bought for reliability and that''s what I hope I get. I''m damned tired of buing ink. I really don''t need color since we have other printers for that. I''m glad a friend convinced me that a laser is a lot cheaper than ink jets in the long run.

Easy to use, easy to connect. Not real pleased with the "picture" install guide vs. a real manual, but you get it all on a CD.
