.. is whee I found the BEST price. I am skeptical of using ''no-name-brand'' toner on a brand new printer, so I bought OEM Brother toner in all 4 colors. Always check to make sure if you are ordering standard or high capacity.

We''ve done everything possible to save on toner (settings, electrical tape trick, etc.) and we''re still not getting half of what the toner claims. Talked to Brother customer service and after checking some things, they decided we were getting the right number of prints out of a cartridge. Further, to recycle you have to physically take it in somewhere, and these suckers are pretty big. I''m using about 6 cartridges per month and that fills up a large box. If you don''t mind getting about 2,000 pages per cartridge, and you don''t care about recycling, then I have no other complaints about this toner.

It bought this machine because it has two paper trays and the ink usage was supposed to be reasonable. This machine is beautiful to look at-not so great when it comes to work. I bought this to replace my Canon Pixma that finally died after several years. This is for home use and I bought it primarily to print both photos and plain paper at the same time: from Tray 2 plain paper documents, homework, and articles from the internet and with Tray 1 loaded with photo paper to print 4 x 6 photos wirelessly from my phone or Ipad. These photos previously rarely ever ended up getting printed so it was my hope that I would be printing out a lot of family photos finally.

The machine seems like it was cheaply made. Right out of the box some handle to hold the top open came off and I never could get it put back in. It set up wirelessly with the network but I did need some help for printing from my phone-printing from the Ipad was a easy. The photo quality was very poor-so much so that even though I was thrilled to print these photos-I would not hang them on the bulletin board. The paperwork states that the best photos will be with Brother paper although it isn''t sold at the Staples store near me -so that is an extra hassle and I can''t believe the photos would be THAT much better-they were bad. With regard to plain paper printing I kept having random printer failure-one minute I could print-the next minute the same document would fail. As it goes in life-these unexplained printer failures were always at the worst time and I need to be able to print with the printer. I did not have it longer enough to comment on the ink usage. I am sending it back to Brother.

AlsoI want to quickly comment on the customer service which is life of the machine-which is great. However,I think that customer service is only as good as the people answering the phone or doing the online "Chat" for Brother and I have to sayI had two that didn''t know the product and gave me completely different answers than the other two. Ugh!

Arrived as advertised from Amazon. After setup the paper would jam every time I tried to print. Called Brother support and after some trouble shooting steps they decided to replace it. I got the replacement in 1 day and returned the the defective unit at no cost to me. The replacement was everything I expected, wireless setup was a breeze, scan and printing works very well and takes up half the space of the Canon it replaced. Brother service and support was outstanding. Would have given it 5 stars, except for the bad experience at the beginning.

The wait to get this printer was well worth it! I love the speed and quality of the prints. I not all that happy about how hard it is to find paper in the 17" x 22" or 17" roll sizes. The other thing was finding ink cartridges and the maintain tank replacements. These items seem to be out of stock just as much as the printer. There is a little bit of a learning curve but in the end the pictures are outstanding and worth every bit of the current problems in getting ink and the maintain tank. I was surprise by the size and it does need heavy duty desk or stand. But again it works great out of the box and better once you learn how to use all the settings. I suggest if you get this printer that you plan ahead in ordering extra ink and other maintain tank if you going to do a lot of printing. Everyone that has seen the pictures are very impress and I had one person wanting buy a picture I was just showing off. This is a great printer!!

There has hardly been a day without trouble on my Epson Stylus Pro 4000. Invalid media, wrong feed location, misaligned paper, clogged nozzles etc my log book is full of the problems I have with this printer. It takes considerable time to persuade the printer to do a print job. I have the latest firmware v1.01564 yet it does not recognise my media "Epson Photo Paper SO41857". After being away on holiday for several weeks I wanted to print with the 4000 but I get message "nozzles clogged" and after many cleaning cycles the printer closed down because the maintenance tank was full. I hurriedly obtained a new tank only to get message "No maintenance tank" then I find that one of the 7 small spring contacts on the Ink Eject Board which registers with the chip on the side of the tank was bent. I managed to get a new part after weeks of wrangling with Epson before I was given a supplier of parts the part only cost me £10 and it was delivered quickly and I fitted it in maybe 30 minutes. However I still have the problem that the nozzles are still clogged and the printer refuses to do anything in the meantime. So it looks as tho I will have to manually clean the nozzles myself since the printer is unable to do this. If you do not use the printer every few days DO NOT BUY THE 4000 it is not meant for modest or light commercial or home use. The printer will be unusable after being idle for a couple of months and it seems that the ink has a use by date of 6 months. Not very useful if you buy the large ink refills. I do have other printers Canon BJC 5500, Epson Stylus Photo R200, HP Laserjet 2420, Samsung Laser ML1755, Canon Pixma MP600R which collectively give me very little trouble.

FACTS

When the ink jets are not clogged in works great.

I spend more money on head cleanings that I do prints.

Buy a few extra maintence tanks, you''ll need them.

Eight of the the big cartrages will cost you only 800 dollers !

The printer cloggs overnight so If you dont print every day you will have to clean the heads at least five times. and as you know cleaning uses lots of ink.

For conveince just send Epson the # to your bank account.

The Epson Stylus Pro has been out since late 2003, early 2004. The printer is the first of the 4xxx line from Epson, and surprisingly comes with both matte black and photo black on-board. This means no ink is wasted when you switch between matte paper and photo papers (glossy and semi-gloss products). If you are looking for a great printer for the home or small office, and have enough room for it, find one of these, and buy it! We have both an Epson SP4000 and an Epson SP4800. Even though the SP4800 came out after the SP4000, it''s main difference is the addition of another tone of black. Unfortunately, this meant that you now had to waste ink (Thanks, Epson!) in order to switch between matte black and photo black. Unless you are REALLY picky with your black gradations, and can actually see it in a print, you do not need this upgrade. This printer can print a 16x20 at 1440x720dpi in less than three minutes, and the quality is superb. There are built-in functions on this printer for auto-cleaning the nozzles as well as auto-alignment. You may need to use these, but only when print quality is noticeably affected, in other words, not often. On the downside, the mechanics of the flush station on the Epson SP4xxx line of printers makes it likely that your flush station will eventually clog and cause quite a mess, without proper maintenance. The way around this is to gently remove the flush station and wash it in warm water with a drop of dish soap to get rid of any build-up. After a good round of use, you may also place about 10ml of warm water, using a needle-less syringe or eye dropper, on the flush pad to rinse it of any dried ink. We do this at Digital Eyes on a weekly basis. Also make sure to keep an eye on the waste ink tank to make sure it is replaced or emptied and reset before it overflows (very unlikely). Refillable ink cartridges, chip resetters, and bulk ink make this printer very inexpensive to use, and with proper maintenance, it will last for a very long time.

On the good side, initial prints are very, very good, and the printer is very versatile as to media. You will love it, except for hand feeding media from the top, since it must be perfectly aligned without having effective paper guides to help. At some point though, the nozzles will clog, and eventually will clog so badly that you will not be able to clear them. Along the path to this, you will spend large amounts of time and money burning through color cartridges trying to clear them. You''ll try all kinds of tricks, but at least one cart will defy everything you do.

The more general caveat is that Epson is not updating drivers for this printer, which means that if you upgrade or replace your PC or Mac to the latest and greatest, you will no longer be able to run prints. I got my 4000 in 2004 (for $2,000) and Epson orphaned it in 2008. Should you have a newer computer and want to get a refurb 4000 to run big, glorious prints, you are SOL. Be sure to check Epson''s website in detail about which drivers are available for what operating system, and the level of functionality they have. If you do not see yours, do not buy the 4000. OS X 10.5 is there, but is crippled and nearly useless, and 10.6 is ignored. Personally, the nozzles are a serious nuisance, but this last support decision by Epson ensures that I can''t justify replacing it with another more current model. A $70 printer is one thing, but to cut off OS support for large format units after such a short time? Doesn''t make me want to buy another one!

I don''t know about newer model print quality, but you will find that online print labs actually produce better prints than the Epson 4000 can. I''ve done comparos of the same images, side by side, glossy. Matte may be a different story. If you combine shipping of multiple prints, you''ll also find that even quality labs are less expensive per print than doing it yourself. If you like to run on oddball media, or need immediate results, or need to tweak the print to get EXACTLY what you want, an inkjet is fine. I''d research a lesser model if I was going to stick with Epson, though. Something not in the 4000 family, or sharing its ink delivery/nozzle system. The 4000 will too quickly become an eighty-pound boat anchor.

I run a photobooth company, and we bought this printer to replace a Canon Selphy CP780. The Canon is also dye sub, prints in 1 minute, and has great quality but it only holds 18 sheets at a time. That means a lot of paper & ink changing during an event while customers wait.

So we bought this printer for the 60 sheet capacity. During testing it worked ok, but not great. The paper feed would not work reliably if the paper tray was full, so we''d have to take some out each time. There were hairline scratches going the length of the photos, barely visible but annoying. And the prints took 1min 10sec, a little slower but still passable. Overall not great quality, but it seemed like it still might be adequate for our use.

During the first live event, it worked well for the first 15-30 minutes. Then the printer driver started showing a popup before every print that said something along the lines of "Please wait, printer driver is processing" and had a progress bar. During this time the CPU was idle (and so was the printer itself), so it was not truly processing anything I believe this was a cooldown period. The manual stated that the if the printer overheated, it would pause long enough to cool down.

So the 1min 10sec print time become 3-5 minutes per print! Instead of a small wait for prints, we had customers waiting from 30 min up to an hour. At the end of the event, we were preventing people from leaving when they wanted.

On the positive side, we did contact support and they offered to ship it back to them at their cost to try to repair this. But with all the things wrong with this printer (paper feed, scratches, long print time) it leads me to believe these are systemic problems and not just related to my specific printer.

I was able to return this printer, and I''m glad I did. I was considering saving it as a backup printer, but even for that it''s not useful. I''m keeping my CP780 as the backup printer, and we bought a Sony UP-CR10L to replace this. It''s not in the same league at all (~$1000), but it is fast (20 sec prints), has good quality, holds 200 prints on a roll (no tear-off tabs), and the prints are cheaper.

Bottom line: Not recommended definitely not for heavy usage, and really not even for light usage. For light use, I''d put up with the Canon CP780. For heavy usage, I''d recommend the UP-CR10L or the UPXC1, or a similar heavy-duty dye-sub printer. For medium usage (>50 sheet capcity,

I''ve been putting this purchase off for a few years now, but the price of these two labeling machines was to much to resist. I fact that I can print a nice clean and professional looking label for my files and parts box''s is worth the cost. The time savings is great too. I was a little confused in trying to get the extra cartridges for the small machine because the site wasn''t real specific on what label tape i should use but I figured it out after the second try.

We switched to using the 57+ line of color cartridges after witnessing appalling amounts of fading with photos we had given to relatives (printed on Costco photo paper). It is especially bad under fluorescent lights.

So now we use only HP photo paper and 57+ ink (previously called "Vivera"). The results are definitely better, but I haven''t conducted any fade tests yet.

Other than that, the printing quality is the same, so if you are ordering this thinking that magically your photos will look different, well, they won''t. This ink fading issue is giving me lots to consider when it comes to choosing what our next printer will be.

I was concerned when I read the 1st review on this product, but since the price is good, I ordered 4 packs of the paper figuring if they were damaged, Amazon would stand behind the product. I made a good gamble. The packs were recieved in good condition, no damage, in one box. The box took a bit of a beating along the way, but the product was packaged well enough that there was no damage.

This is not ''true'' vellum, but is 67 lb card stock and is a good price for the product.

Wasn''t sure what the vellum bristol was, when I think of vellum it is the see through sheet of paper that you see on wedding invites and such, but vellum bristol is not like that, this was regular looking cardstock, but I am happy with the product. I love the paper that I received, I wasn''t sure how to tell what the thickness was going to be, but it is strong enough to handle whatever I want to put it through, very happy with the product. The seller and the time it took for shipping were wonderful.

This paper is perfect for my needs. This 67lb doesn''t feel as heavy or firm as similar 69lb weight paper that I''ve gotten at office stores. It doesn''t feel heavy enough to be card stock, but its closer to that than regular paper. Other paper of the same weight tends to jam in my printer, but as I''ve said for 67lb paper it feels more like 45lb or so and works well in my printer.

I print light gray shaded areas for charts and tables and the toner from my laser jet can be rubber off this paper if I select card stock or vellum under the printer settings. After trying all my various printer paper settings, I found that the toner adheres well when I select the rough paper setting. This is only an issue for light shading, darker shading adheres fine on any setting. With light shading, less toner is used so printer setting is more important than to get the toner set. The paper does have a rougher texture to it than standard card stock. It is a plus I think as it is nice paper to handle. The tables and charts I print look better and are easier to read on ivory than on white paper.

I always get enough to qualify for free super saving shipping thru Amazon.

I ordered this paper hoping that it would be a heavier paper than it turned out to be, but the overall paper quality was fine.

What I found really disappointing was the condition it arrived in. Amazon failed to place enough packing in the box to cushion the weight of the paper. As a result the ream split open its packaging and some of the paper had bent edges. Something to think about before you order paper.

Frankly I''ve come to expect better packing from Amazon and was disappointed that this happened.

They have a sticker on the packages saying the colors are brighter and they won''t crack. I tried those first and they are beautiful. I bought some more, but they didn''t have the sticker on them. Those must be what everyone here is reviewing. The old ones are indeed waxy with okay colors. I hope they don''t peel like everyone says. But those improved ones are wonderful brilliant colors and nice feel, not waxy at all. Trust me, there is a difference. I haven''t washed the new improved ones yet, but they do look like they are durable and will withstand the wash. Wish there was a way to tell if the package we are getting from Amazon is new or old. I think the stock number is the same.

UPDATE: It has been an entire year since I''ve done some thirty or so transfers using various brands. Those new and improved Avery transfers are the best. One year later, through repeated washings, the new and improved ones still look bright and beautiful. The others are old and faded. Look carefully on the package. If they are new and improved Avery, that''s the one you want.

I pre-washed my shirt. I tested my art by printing it out on a plain sheet of paper before using the iron-on sheet. The iron-on sheet came out looking great! I followed the instructions to transfer the image, and again, everything went perfect and looked great.

The trouble came when I washed the shirt. The transfer did not survive. It came out of a gentle wash cycle looking VERY crackled and even peeling off a bit. I was crushed. I wear my crackled shirt around the house, but it''s not fit for the public. The dark shirt transfers seem to have gotten much better reviews, but I''m scared to try them because of how horrible this one came out.

I just bought the package of the Avery transfer with that encouraging sticker, affixed it as per package directions (ironing with firm pressure for a very long time, allowing to cool before peeling, etc. )to some prewashed cotton muslin, and spent four hours and lots of money sewing the transfered picture into a luxurious fabric frame with lots of expensive trims, making a gorgeous pillow to give as a prize at an annual party I host for the volunteers and staff of the museum where I work. As I was finishing the last touch, I noticed the thing was already cracking off the fabric. It is RUINED. Where can I find a transfer paper that works? This is a disaster . Obviously, I advise all to steer absolutely clear of this product. What a dud!

I have used this product many times. T-shirts and quilts. As long as you iron the product to cure the ink, you should be fine. And when you wash your finished product you may want to air dry your garment. I never did, some of my items have lasted four years. Others have faded over time. Again, air drying your garment may save the fading of the ink. Great, great, great product.

I have used this product a few times to make inexpensive "custom" shirts. They don''t last too well through the wash, but I wasn''t being particularly careful about washing it since it was more of a one time use for me.

This is by far the best printer I have owned. For a color laser it is small and convenient. Setup was very easy including installing it on our home network. I also like the toner tanks instead of the usual roller tanks. It is also comparatively lightweight compared to some of the monster size color lasers available. I choose color laser to avoid the inkjet rip-offs. Print quality is excellent for both color and text, the unit is quiet and comletely silent in standby. There''s an eco mode meaning it uses almost no power in standby-mode (about 14W). It works great with both XP and Vista.

--------------Update 8 months of use -------------------

The print quality is exellent but the toner cost will ruin you. We have printed about 1,100 pages and already used up the toner that came with the unit and one set of new toners with 2,500 page capacity. Obviously the toners won''t give you 2,500 pages my guess is that our''s has given us about 600 or so. Most of what we print is text so I will assume our usage pattern is average. Cost per page including cost of hardware runs close to 75c per b/w page. The reason: I just emptied the waste toner It was full so be warned that is where your toner goes!

Let''s get the pros out of the way first:

The setup is easy and straightforward

The print quality is pretty good for a printer in this price range

Speed is acceptable, even in color

It''s not as noisy or bulky as other color lasers I''ve owned

Now for the rest.

This printer is obviously designed for *very* light duty printing. The specs say the paper tray will hold 250 pages but I couldn''t get more than about 200 in without bending paper. The specs also claim the output area will hold 100 pages, and that''s nonsense. I printed a 74 page manual, and got a jam after 52 pages.

And that''s when the fun began...

I cleared the jam, but the printer refused to recognize that the jam was cleared. It kept insisting the jam was still there.

At the same time, the Lexmark Status Monitor just quit working. I got Vista''s dreaded "This program has stopped working" dialog. (I''m on 64 bit Vista Ultimate.)

So I turned the printer off and on. The good news is that it realized it wasn''t jammed. The bad news was it began spewing pages of random garbage. (I realize Vista''s print spooler was partially responsible for this.) Stabbing the Cancel button on the printer stopped it after about a dozen pages.

So I went to Vista''s print manager, and tried to cancel the job. Nothing I could do would effect a cancel. Since this functionality worked fine on the printer this one replaced, this has to be the fault of the Lexmark driver.

So I rebooted Vista, and the cancel still didn''t take. This time I let the manual run (carefully taking pages from the output area about every 15 or 20). But I don''t know what I would have done if I really needed to cancel.

I really hate to submit a negative review, because my initial impressions were quite good. I suppose if you use this little guy for very light duty work, you would probably be fine. The hardware seems well worth the price if the drivers worked better. Perhaps the XP drivers do work better, and the Vista drivers just have not been worked on enough. (By the way, the same driver disk applies to the C543 and the C544, so I would presume they have the same problems on Vista I discussed above.)

I finally did get six nice copies of my manual. This thing was so inexpensive, and I''ve used so much of its toner, that I don''t feel right taking it back, so I''m keeping it. But you can bet the next time I print manuals it will be Lulu or a quick copy place.

*** Update Sept 7, 2009

I''ve worked with this printer a month now, and I''m telling you outright: If you have Vista, especially 64 bit, don''t buy it.

The software that comes on the disk with the printer is simply unusable on Vista 64 bit. The problems I discussed above are still there, and I''ve discovered more.

I finally uninstalled everything that was installed from the disk, and went to Lexmark''s site to get something better. That seems to work a bit better so far (at least print jobs can now be cancelled), but it took power user experience and some inspired guessing to locate the right download. Their support web site is just awful.

I now wish I had taken this thing back, even after using up its toner. It has cost me hours trying to make it work.

A note about Windows 7 based on their web site. When Windows 7 is released in stores (it''s already in the hands of corporations and MSDN subscribers) only then will Lexmark EVEN SAY WHEN DRIVERS MIGHT BE AVAILABLE. So I wouldn''t expect the driver situation to get better any time soon with Windows 7 (for any Lexmark printer).

Let me first preface my review. I am looking specifically at what it can do and how well it does it in relation to it''s competitors. My experience with printers is extensive. I research printer''s capabilities before homing in on the one that I want and need. I own 5, purchase a new one for improved capabilities and quality for different custom marketing pieces. This one produces an awesome, "digital print quality" with automatic duplexing with print speed of 21 to 25 ppm. I just wish it would print tabloid. I have always been an Epson, HP and Minolta person. This is my first Lexmark. I use printers wirelessly and this one does that too. It has adequate RAM for large file printing but you can upgrade from the 128 to 512. I''m an intensive graphics user and so far I see no need to upgrade. This is IT!!!! This is the printer I''ve been looking for with the quality, speed and price point. You can find replacement cartridges online fairly reasonable but I''ve also found bottles of toner for this unit for $20 too if you want to refill yourself.

Now on the installation side... If you are using a PC then, you''re good. No problems setting up the network or setting up the printer with Wifi. However, I''m more of a MAC user with an Airport Extreme wireless router. I had to call tech support to get it setup because I am using LION which they don''t have instructions for yet. What ultimately had to happen was I had to set it up on the network with my PC and then add it on my MAC. It was a pain. Lexmark''s tech support was good on the first call and solved my wifi issue. On my second call, trying to update the firmware and get the printer to print envelopes as quick as it should, they failed miserably. I spent 2 hours on the phone with no solution!! I was even promised that I''d get a call back with a solution and they never did. I ended up figuring it out myself. Oh, and one last thing, there''s a slight squeak in the printer when it prints. They couldn''t resolve that but offered an exchange without cartridges. Not much of an option. They ultimately told me to take it back to where I bought it and let them know that tech support said there was an issue and to exchange it for another one. For me, I really don''t believe that it is such a big issue to return it. I just wanted to check how they would handle it. A lot of laser''s do this from time to time.

With the tech support issue I still love this printer. For the money you can''t go wrong. LEXMARK has a game changer against it''s competition. They just need to get their tech issues for MAC wifi and drivers for LION figured out and they''ll make everyone happy.

I bought mine at Staples for about $219. It was on sale for $269 and then you can get $50 more off if you trade in an old printer. Now, I see some even lower on Amazon but make sure you don''t get hosed on shipping. It is not light.

Want Lexmark C540N Color Laser Printer Discount?

As a printer this one''s about as dependable as all the rest, however it costs a fortune in ink. With cartridges running between $50 and $80 and the frequency in which you have to replace them, you''d be better off having your documents printed at Kinkos or Staples. Seriously... the low toner indicater light is on almost constantly. It''s just another "low cost printer/expensive ink" ripoff. What a disappointment!

Save 39% off

I purchased the Lexmark C540N to replace a Samsung color laser that I wanted to smash to smithereens out of frustration (constant paper jams) and I was really happy at first with the Lexmark. The first bad omen was when it wouldn''t print because it kept saying the waste toner receptacle was full after printing only 20 pages. I contacted tech support and they shipped me a new receptacle which worked fine. Then one of the cartridges ran out of ink at around 150 or so pages and I couldn''t print anything definitely not good. Buyer''s remorse really kicked in when I resarched replacement toner there are no refill kits for these cartridges nor refurbished units. Even if I purchased the "return program" cartridges where you basically promise to return the old cartridges to Lexmark the high yield toner wound up costing more than what I paid for the printer almost $300. Then the horror really set in 400 to 500 pages later, I ran out of toner again. A sick empty feeling in my stomach hit me as I realized what a colossal mistake I made in buying this thing. It''s been sitting in my basement for almost a year now as I decided to stop flushing so much money down the drain on toner and wait and see if the cartridge prices would come down or either a refill kit or refurbished cartridges would become available, but unfortunately, nothing. Lexmark has a tight-fisted control of the market when it comes to used cartridges I guess. As for the print quality, I do have to say that when it prints, it does so beautifully the images are very sharp and vivid. But when you run out of ink, the ouch factor really kicks in. If you want really nice prints and don''t mind the expense, then I highly recommend the printer. If you''re on a budget, look for something else.

I have been looking for a decent printer to do some light duty work for my home. I didn''t want something too expensive with ridiculous ink cartridge prices. I didn''t want something that had extreme HD qualities. I came across this printer on Amazons lightening deal page going for $59.99. I noticed that the cartridges were a decent price and that it had everything but a fax (no big deal). It lacked any reviews but Epson has put out several good printers. I received the printer a few days later and set about setting it up via wireless connection. Fairly easy even without a USB cable. The instruction manual and CD instructions carry you right through the process. Easy, but time consuming. After installing the software, it goes about updating itself and then updates the printers firmware. Didn''t run into a single glitch. Took about fifteen minutes from installing the cartridges to setting it at its final resting place. I adjusted the settings to conserve ink and have printed several things up already. Decent, inexpensive printer with effortless wireless setup. Really can''t beat this thing. I can''t speak for photo printing because I rarely do any. I will update the review in a couple months as to how the printer is fairing.

Update 1/1/12:

Just thought I''d add a few updates. I have found the fast economy setting too strenuous on my eyes. I bumped it to regular economy setting. Saves my eyes and still saves ink. Paper tray is a little finicky as far as squaring up the paper to be loaded properly. Used it to copy a diagram for work. Copy portion worked fine. I have not had any glitches or major problems yet. So far, great buy.

Last Update 2/11/12:

Continues to function correctly. Tried a photo for the first time and it came out excellent. I have also tried fairly heavy paper in the printer. The heavier paper didn''t have an issue going through printer. IMHO, a solid printer for the money.

NOTE: Price of printer has dramatically risen since December. If it had cost $100 dollars + shipping when I bought the printer, I likely would not have purchased it. I am a firm believer that a good printer can be found and purchased for $80 dollars or less. Most home printers are rarely utilized and dishing out too much for an object that might sit for a month before use is silly.

Buy Epson Stylus NX530 Wireless All-in-One Color Inkjet Printer (C11CB90201) Now

The Epson NX530 printer offers a lot of bang for the buck. It allows:

Wireless set-up and operation, eliminating the need for a cable completely, and allows operation from another room--particularly useful if you''ve got multiple computers feeding to a single printer;

Very fast printing for an ink jet (about one b&w page every four seconds);

Color printing and copying as well as black and white;

Good, but not exceptional, photo printing (if that''s a priority, consider a printer that''s specifically designed for photo printing);

A 150-page paper drawer, allowing you to do a fair amount of printing before reloading;

Easy LED-screen controls that are intuitive and simple;

Separate cartridges for each color ink (and a separate black and white cartridge), so you don''t have to replace the whole set after running out of one color (I found replacing the cartridges very simple and quick, and they''re reasonably priced);

Ability to print directly from a camera memory card, so you don''t have to turn on your computer or hook up your camera and download the images before printing a photo;

Ability to email a photo image directly from your cellphone to the printer;

Photocopying capability, including adjusting the size of the image;

Scanning capability, together with software that makes basic scanning simple;

Automatic double-sided copying; and

Relatively small size.

Limitations:

No fax capability; and

One paper drawer means you''ll have to hand-load paper of a different type or dimension if your job requires different types of copies.

(Epson also makes the NX430, which costs only a little less. For that sum, the NX530 offers the paper drawer, automatic double-sided copying, and faster printing, with a slightly larger footprint.)

I found wireless set-up easy, and was scanning and touching up photos within an hour of unpacking it. The quality of the black and white text is excellent, while that of photos is acceptable, especially for prints smaller than 8x10. The LED touch screen controls are straightforward.

This printer isn''t designed for constant, high-volume printing day after day. The ink cartridges and paper would require frequent replacement, and I don''t think it would last very long with that kind of use. The NX530 is recommended for personal use or a home office that requires light to moderate printing. For heavier use, look into one of the Epson WorkForce models (or other manufacturers'' printers), or a laser printer, which offer more durability and flexibility.

This is a very well designed and thought out product; extremely simple to set up, easy to use functionality and it does many things well. It is true it doesn''t have a fax, but we got rid of our landline a long time ago. For the modern world, for most people, and certainly for me the ability to scan and then email is just as good.

The first striking thing about the NX530 is how easy it is to set up. Adding the printer to my wireless network could not have been easier. The LCD display screen when you first turn it on and prime the ink has an option set up wizard. I pressed OK and it found my named network right away. I pressed OK. It asked for the network password. I entered it and then the printer was part of the network. It took less than 2 minutes.

After that I downloaded the software for my netbook and used the supplied CD disc for my notebook. I choose printer already part of the network and both computers were good to go. You will want the software for the EpsonScan software. If you have an iPhone you will also Epson iPrint app. The NX530 was not listed but the NX430 was, probably because the NX530 is a newer model. But no problems, the iPrint app works great. It found the printer and it has options to print Photos, web page print, and even operate the scanner.

I was interested in the scanner and put it through a few items. the scanner does need to be controlled with iPrint or the EpsonScan software. It did not find either computer from the printer itself, it will only find a printer connected via USB. But with the EsponScan from either of my computers it worked fine and downloaded the scanned image exactly where I wanted it to. I used the ''professional mode''. This let me scan some old color photos to an incredibly high DPI. I choose 1200 DPI which resulted in a 4 by 6 inch photo coming out to around a 4.5 meg file. It was reproduced very accurately. It took around 2 minutes to scan and I had to tell it was a 4 by 6 photo. Using preview you can see if you have placed the photo in the correct spot on the scanner bed. Scanning a black and white page at 300 DPI took only a few seconds. And if you are scanning as a PDF you get an option to have a new page become part of the same document which is very handy.

One of the main things about buying a printer is you are really buying an Ink supplier. The cost of Ink will dwarf the cost of the printer itself. It turns out Epson gives you a lot of flexibility. You have two options, the 125 line and the 127 line. The 127 line costs more but gives you higher capacity. I will go this way when I need refills. Both the 125 and 127 have excellent reviews on Amazon. You have a black cartridge and 3 color cartridges. On my current printer I only use black. I use Photo services to print my Photos. I did borrow some photo print paper and was very pleased with the results on the NX530. However I have found in the past it is cheaper to use store print services. But for those that want to print photos you not only get good quality, and VERY fast drying ink, but you can put your photo card directly into the printer. The printer came supplied with regular 125 cartridges not half starter cartridges, a nice touch from Epson. Another neat function is that from your computer once you install the software it will check for any firmware updates. There was one and I initialized it from the computer and it installed in a few minutes.

The printer itself is a nice design. The control panel slides out for easy reading and use. The buttons are large. the top of the printer has a nice texture. The paper tray is easy to adjust and clearly marked for various sizes. In the end Epson has made an extremely easy to use wireless printer. It takes just a couple of minutes to get the computer on your network. The functions are all easy to use via smartphone, computer, or directly from the printer with the exception of scanning which you will need to control from a computer or smartphone. The print quality for documents and photos is very good. You have the ability to do double sided printing. Scanning produces excellent results. The ink gets good reviews. I personally trust Epson and Canon the most when it comes to printers. Epson put a lot of many decades of printer know how into the NX530 and user friendliness and it shows. Highly recommended.

Want Epson Stylus NX530 Wireless All-in-One Color Inkjet Printer (C11CB90201) Discount?

Epson makes a fine array of Color Ink Jet Printers. This would be the base model. While it is a copier and a scanner, you can only copy or scan one page at a time because there is no document feeder.

But if you are very limited in space and really do not need a multi page scanner, then this would be perfect. The color print is very good. I did not use the scanner but have with other Epsons and it works very well, even wirelessly!

The new feature is Epson Connect. This allows you to email photos, documents and even emails to the printer directly. I forwarded an email with graphics to the given email address and it printed on the printer but many of the graphics did not print out.

So for a basic printer it is alright but if you have the room, spend a little more and get a better model.

Our house is starting to look something like a warehouse because of the number of printers we have lying around. I suspect that at this point I have at least 1 of every brand, which I suppose puts me in a good position to write a printer review, on the other hand the reason for all of those printers is the cost of ink. Some of those printers are actually unused and gathering dust (the one my daughter got free with her Dell laptop, for example, which takes $120 cartridges). Anyone who has a printer must know how absurd this model is. What you have is effectively a vending machine to the extent that as often as not the ink costs more than the printer, sometimes it costs more/ month than the printer costs to buy....so it is yet to be determined how long we will be using this. My daughter, who is (among other things) a photographer got an Epson on a special deal when she bought her first good camera. A photo-quality printer, it has been used exactly once over the course of 5 or 6 years, as it costs less to have the photos professionally printed than it does to use the printer! I will not know how cost-efficient this one is until we run out of ink (as we have no estimate of how many pages it will print/ cartridge).

All that said, my opinion of a printer is closely ties to the cost of ink, at least that goes to its utility. This is a reasonably nice printer, and at this price point, I would even say a very nice printer. It is a low cost all in one machine. The quality of the prints is very nice, I would say better than either of my Canons, really any of the others, save the HP professional laser printer. *However* I continue to use my Canon Pixma MX310 Office All-in-One Inkjet Printer (2184B002) for most things despite the variable quality of the prints because it takes $10 ink cartridges.

However, if the cost of ink cartridges (currently $12.75 for standard, $28 for XL) stays where it is, that is reasonable enough to make this a very usable printer.

This printer also took a bit longer to set up than most as it immediately installed a firmware upgrade and required the installation of driver (on a more or less standard windows machine). Thus far no other printer I have used (and there are roughly a dozen) have required the installation of driver {at least not since windows xp, which auto-detects most printers and has drivers on board: plug & play). Note; this was very simple, I mention it only because I know some people who are sufficiently uncomfortable with technology that they would be deterred by having to install drivers from a disk. In addition, while it is a wireless printer, in order to print from an android tablet more drivers are required {software needs to be installed on tablet). That is not too surprising given the lack of standards in android devices, but most of other printers I have (honestly, that sounds ridiculous, and is) are plug and play. Part of me wants to take another star off for that,but the reason that I haven''t is that:

1: the print quality is very nice for an ink jet, among the best I have seen (near laser quality)

2: It is an all (print, scan, copy) in one machine at a very low price point

3; It has most if not all of the features most people would want, allowing you to print from a memory card (without going through the computer,) print wirelessly from a hand-held device ( and network with machines in other rooms (for example).

4, It is fast (again faster than all but the professional laser copier) and quiet.

It is relatively intuitive, easy to set up and use (with the caveat that some drivers need to be installed).

It has a large footprint as home printers go, I''d say the biggest of the 10-12 we have lying around. It is something you should be aware of, particularly if your space is tight (check the dimensions before ordering).

Honestly my biggest issue is right up top: I do not know how much it is going to cost to maintain/ run. When I do, I will come back and add that information.

I will say that there was a point, with my kids'' printer, that I looked at getting a new printer when it ran out of ink because the cost of a new printer with 2 cartridges was lower than the cost of replacing either cartridge! (My husband, who is ecologically minded stopped me from doing that.... but every time we need to replace a cartridge I check, and think that if everyone did that maybe we could unwind this game: get back to paying for the printer and a reasonable cost for the ink.

At this point in time it is not the case that this printer costs less than the ink (with standard ink cartridges running circa $15) but how economical it is will depend on how many prints we get from the cartridge. My personal experience with Epson is that it has been one of the more expensive to run, but it does give you nicer prints. also looks like Epson is getting better in this way! (I have long said that whoever offers a reasonable, fair cost of operation gets the market. Maybe Epson has figured this out!) At the time of this revision (my 3rd in as many days) the cartridges cost $15.78 for a standard, and $28 for an XL (which I understand gives you 1,000 prints. (Thank you Patrick for leaving that comment and providing more information). That is a pretty reasonable cost from my perspective, and bumps this up to 5 stars. It looks like this one may well be the one which sends the other to a garage sale or goodwill! Nice print, easy to uses, accepts a variety of inputs, scans & copies. Really you can not ask for much more!

Note: I will not revise every time there is a price change in either printer or ink costs. I have seen huge variability over the past week alone :) But have revised my opinion based on the current price from amazon (and ordered some myself, considering this a very reasonable price). Just be aware that prices change here, things go on special, market place sellers come and go, so I am always hesitant to put price information in my reviews. On the other hand, cost is a factor in all of our purchases, and so it has to influence my decision (and ratings) some. Do not rely on the $ amount sited in the review, consider it an approximation and look at what Amazon is selling it for. (In my experience it is rare to find a better price; they work on that, and successfully too.)

Hmm, maybe now I can pass the old Cannon on to the kids knowing that with this networked, they can print their homework or whatever needs to be legible, and save the one with the ultracheap ink for things which will ultimately be recycled ;)

In sum; I have changed my opinion of this machine to accord with what I consider a reasonable cost of operation. If I were buying or replacing a printer now, I would make this one my first choice. Why?

1. Best print quality I have seen on an inkjet printer, considering *all* the major manufacturers.

2. Ability to network, print remotely, wirelessly, from an android tablet or memory card (in addition to standard wired options)

3 All in one functions: scan, print, copy

4. speed: fastest ink jet

5. reasonable cost *both to purchase and operate;* among the best in this regard. I have 1 printer (and early Canon Pixma) which is less expensive to use, but the print quality is not anywhere near as good.

The only cons, or caveats: It is larger than many home printers. Looks at the dimensions and consider the space you have available. It also requires the installations of drivers (provided on disk). It is a simple install, and I do not believe recommends against this machine unless you are very very uncomfortable with technology and do not want to have to do anything more than plus it in.

Someone called another printer I reviewed (a pixma) "the perfect printer". I generally hesitate to make such strong statements, but may go out on a limb and say that about this machine. The other is a bit less expensive to run, However, the quality of prints from this machine is very much better. (I could not refer to a printer as "perfect" which sometimes produces illegible prints, and... I have a few other issues with that machine as well). For this machine I would say that it depends on what you consider reasonable. At $28/ 1,000 pages, I consider it a reasonable cost of operation.

Canon S9000 Photo Inkjet Printer

Canon S9000 Photo Inkjet Printer
  • High-speed, professional-quality, six-color, large-format photo printer
  • Borderless 4-by-6-inch photo prints in approximately 37 seconds
  • Produces large photo prints, up to 13 by 19 inches
  • 2,400 x 1,200 dpi resolution; 3,072 nozzles for exceptional speed and quality
  • Convenient USB interface; PC and Mac compatible

The other reviews here say it well. I switched to the S9000 after tiring of wasting half of every color ink cartridge on cleaning cycles on my Epson. The S9000''s been 100% reliable, without a single clog. Photo quality is on par with Epson''s -that is, superb. And the printer driver''s been updated since the spotlight review was written -this version does include a Print Preview feature. The 13x19 prints are absolutely stunning! And this thing is amazingly fast.

Just two downsides. First, you need to be sure to use the right paper. With Canon Photo Paper Pro or Epson''s papers, prints look fantastic. With Kodak and some other brands, the ink pools and you get a "spotty" appearance. Second, the printer won''t do borderless prints at 13x19. The borderless 8x10 and 4x6 prints look great, though.

Buy Canon S9000 Photo Inkjet Printer Now

This was the first photo printer I have ever purchased, and got it because of the large-format printing ability. I had it narrowed down to the Epson 1280 and the Canon S9000, and after reading an excellent review discussing these very 2 printers (such luck!), I chose the Canon for "slightly superior photo quality". Epson is well-known for its printers, but Canon apparently has become quite the competitor, just from what I''ve read and researched. (I recommend checking out Steve''s Digicams wesite for some in-depth reviews if you are interested.)

I ordered this printer on a Friday evening with ground shipping. It arrived Tuesday afternoon. Kudos to Amazon and UPS for making the delivery quicker than I imagined possible.

Ok, so I opened the box and everything was there, so far so good. Set-up was easy, a la Canon (I also have a G2 camera), BUT be warned, there is no USB cable included to attach the printer to your computer! I knew this to be the case and had an extra one so it was no big deal, but Canon, what''s the deal with that?!? You couldn''t supply a simple little cable with your printer? Go figure.

I went ahead and printed a "test shot" that I found on PhotoDisc.coms'' website. They have a few excellent test photos available for this purpose download is free. This particualar photo had every color imaginable, flesh tones, black and white, every day objects (fruit, flowers, stamps, colored pencils, you get the idea). Every object was printed with incredible color accuracy and detail. So far so good.

I went on to print some headshots I had taken of me w/ my G2 that I had photoshopped. Again, excellent detail, color representation, etc etc etc! I printed about 10 8x11 shots, and all are vibrant, beautiful, crisp everything I would expect from a photo lab (who, btw, printed one of my headshots last week **too dark** and they wonder why we customers are getting all savvy with our OWN digital darkrooms!)

I have only used Canon Photo Pro paper and Canon Photo Paper Plus Glossy. I will be trying out the large-format papers as soon as I''m sure I know what I am doing (so I don''t waste paper, which yes, is expensive, but well worth it in my opinion).

I did experience some banding on one shot, but realized that I had not set the paper settings correctly in the dialog box before sending the print to the printer. I re-set them for the correct paper, re-printed, and voila! A perfect print. My fault, not Canon''s. :)

I will update this if I experience problems, as of now however this printer is going to be an incredible investment and I am SO pleased to have made this purchase!

The quality of output from this printer is amazing. I had no idea that inkjet technology had come this far. I was truely shocked with how beautiful the photos came out in 4x6 and 8.5 x 11 paper size borderless! Of course, the quality of the data makes all the difference in the world. If you take a picture with a cheap digital camera, you will not get great results. Also, you must use quality glossy photo paper designed for inkjet printers. In my case, I used the Canon G4 and the Canon Photo Pro paper. The 8.5 x 11 image I printed was as good or better than what I would expect from a film camera. I have yet to try the 13 x 20 size I need to get a better camera for that. I cannot imagine anyone being dissappointed with this printer.

I''ve used HP printers in the past, and have a HP1200c and HP970cse that are still in use. When I decided to do some larger format printing(beyond 8X10), didn''t see anything from HP that would print this size. In addition, I wanted a printer that did not have all the color inks in one cartridge. Based on reviews from this site and Steve''s digicam website, took a shot on this printer. I could not be happier. I have an Olympus e-10 digital camera, and have been able to produce some outstanding 13X19 inch output. Have also done quite a bit of 4X6 borderless printing, and these have worked as advertised. If you have the money to spend, and want to feel like you have your own photoprocessing lab at home, this is a great printer.

Right out of the box the Canon S9000 is everything they claim.....fast, quiet, and most importantly Great Photos ! I''ve had my eye on the Epson 1280 for a while but when the S9000 came out I''m glad I waited. My first printer (other than a dot matrix) was a Canon BJC-610 and it was a great reliable printer and I tend to stick with brand names when I''ve had good luck with them. As stated in the company literature set-up is straightforward and simple, I run XP-pro and had the printer hooked up, ink installed and printing in about 15 minutes. The print alignment page came out very well and no adjustments were necessary. The first print out was on plain paper and had excellent detail. Next was a picture I took of my son and his girlfriend at a nightclub, it was approx 1.2mb and was taken with a flash on a Kodak dc4800 camera. I printed on a generic brand glossy photo paper, 8 1/2" X 11" the result was outstanding, great resolution, fantastic color, black background was perfect. Next was a print I downloaded from the internet, a 5.4mb aerial view of the World Trade center. I printed on Kodak 11" X 17" glossy photo paper. Wow! the resolution was out of this world. crisp details I took it to a friend who is a professional photographer and he was very impressed.

Now for the bad news, the only reason I didn''t give it five stars. The software leaves quite a bit to be desired, no print preview! When I''m printing on paper that costs more than a dollar a sheet I''d like to see my layout before I print. I know with time I''ll get used to the software but most likely I''ll end up getting a third party software such as photoshop.

Overall I give this printer two thumbs up. Good looks, quiet, fast, and most importantly Great pictures !
