1. The automatic paper feeder is well designed the situation that multiple pages go-through at once never happens (in HP 3050, this happens a lot).
2. Canon provided a well designed user interface functions are easy to follow and operate, including scan / printer / copy.
3. The automatic duplex print is excellent and make the printer worth what you paid for. But when using automatic double sided printing the print speed turns to be less than a third (instead a half) because the mechanical parts need a lot of time to flip the paper.
4. As some of you may have concerned, the latest firmware (02/09/2009) makes scan function smooth on a Mac all you need is to press the scan button. This is tested on a Leopard Mac Mini.
5. In case some of you want know the compatibility with printer servers, this printer is full compatible with Netgear PS121 printer server under windows vista (including automatic duplex) x86 and x64. It is NOT compatible with Netgear PS121 under Mac Leopard (no idea why installation smooth and prints went through nothing comes out of printer). This printer is NOT compatible with Maxtor Central Axis printer server function.
To summary, this is a good printer for its price. However, concerning its powerful function, you may want spend some extra money for the 4370n to enable every function on network if you are working in a networked environment.

I purchased this machine on Amazon in November. Overall, I''ve been happy with it. Duplexing was an important feature to me, and Canon appears to offer that on less expensive printers than other companies.I don''t have a lot of experience to base my judgments on, but I think the print quality is very good, with a couple exceptions. First, the printing is sometimes crooked on the paper, especially on the back side when duplexing. However, the Canon rep I complained to said that a variance within 2mm is considered acceptable, so I measured and this printer is within that tolerance. It''s visible, though, especially on forms, such as printer checks. (Actually, my cheapest of Dell inkjets printed straighter.)
The other problem also appears when duplexing: on the back side there''s a strip of blurred printing from top to bottom where the toner didn''t bond. This only appears on the first sheet after the printer has sat idle awhile. The Canon rep had no answer, had not heard of this before.
Yes, you can scan from the machine if you download the firmware update.
I think I''d buy it if I had it to do over. It''s quick and has really crisp printing. If you want to compare, some similar Canons I looked at are the MF4150, MF4370dn and MF4270.

I am a bit disappointed after I''ve played with this copier ImageCLASS MF4350d. Note that Canon calls this a copier, not a printer. Thus, when you call Canon or search its site for help/technical support, make sure you select the "Copier" category.This ImageCLASS MF4350d has been in the market for a while but no one reports this problem: up to this moment of writing this review, the machine cannot scan a document by using its own START button. Everything must be scanned via the software "Toolbox" from the computer.
I bought it a few days ago. I called Canon 1-800 for help but it was useless. Then I went back to the store and tried their demo machine; it has the same problem. Whenever I push the START button on the machine for scanning, there is always a beeping sound as a return but the LCD doesn''t show any error it always indicates "Scanning Mode." So I called Canon again to go over the story. Finally they admitted the problem and said that they are aware of this issue; their engineers are working on the new firmware to fix this. However it won''t be soon. The new firmware may be possibly released next month but could be later. I also wrote an email to Canon support to confirm this information one more time, besides their verbal confirmation over the phone.
In addition, the scanning has no detection senor. Thus, the scanned document (scanned from the computer) will go as large as the paper size, which is usually the Letter/A4 size depending on your settings. The scanned document will NOT be resized automatically according to the actual object(s). It is different from its ink jet printers, which usually detect the size of the document or photo and then resize automatically.
If scanning a document directly from the machine''s START button is important to you, you should wait to buy until the new firmware comes. If resizing the document or photo automatically is important to you, this copier or printer is not for you; you may consider others or Canon ink jet type printer. After all, this all-in-on laser printer is classified a copier internally by Canon.

I''ve had this product for over 6 months now and have owned several other printers in the past. This printer by far is the worst for toner cartridge life. I am using the recommended cartridge, Canon cartridge 104. The printer is constantly alerting that the toner is low and then forces me to replace the cartridge much earlier than necessary. It will stop printing even though the printing quality has never even faded. No amount of shaking the cartridge, placing it in and out of the machine, turning it on or off helps. I have used this type of cartridge in the past on other machines and have never been forced to change them so frequently. I would not recomend this machine or the use of these canon cartridges to anyone unless you have an unlimited income to continually purchase new cartridges.

A second major problem is that the preview scans present as tiny thumbnail images which are too small to properly evaluate or modify using image editing software. I could find no way of enlarging the thumbnails, and the online HP technician confirms that there is no way to enlarge them. I regard this as a serious problem. At least for me the scanner does not function satisfactorily as a slide scanner, (the principle reason for which I bought it), and I have returned the unit.

I really need an HP scanner because that is the only brand that does a good job on 3-D objects. My old HP 5300-C scanner was a wonderful device with great software. I finally wore it out after 5 years and 100,000 scans.The 4890 was the only HP I could get my hands on. As far as I can tell, the scanner works great, but the software is a DISASTER! You can not set up this scanner to scan the same area over and over again without wasting a great deal of time doing a preview and setting your scan area each and every time. What this means is that there are now two stepst to scanning an item rather than one. This is not trivial as it more than doubles the amount of time needed to scan an object, a very serious flaw if you have a lot of scanning to do.
I went to HP''s live chat to ask if I could use the old 5300c software to run this unit, but was told that would not work. If you only have to scan an item once in a blue moon this scanner will work fine for you as the time wasting software will not impact you very badly, but if you do a large amount of scanning, you must avoid this scanner due to the incredibly poorly written and inefficient software. Unfortunately, due to the amazingly bad software, this unit is going back for a refund.
On a side note, unlike other reviewers, I had no problem loading the software and getting the scanner up and running.
Another complaint about this scanner is that it is actually a bit slower than the five year old 5300c model. It hesitates briefly several times during the process of scanning. The difference in scan time is not great, maybe an extra 10 seconds per page, but combined with the disasterous software issue it all adds up to a lot of wasted time.
Again, the software is so bad that this has to go back for a refund I am sad to say. I had high expectations for a $200 scanner from HP after having such great success with my prevoious one.

Don''t by this scanner if you expect anything close to 4800 dpi.I bought this scanner with the intention to scan my slides.
I was not able to get the resolution I expected from a 4800 dpi scanners.
The result was only marginally better than the result I got
by projecting the slides and taking images using my 3 MPix digicam.
By using the "slanted edge" method I measured a resolution
that rather looked like a 1200 dpi scanner.
Also when using the slide adapter the result become even
worse since the slides become more out of focus.
Got no help from HP support. The reaction to my measurements
was basically "that''s the way it is"
Also: The software user interface is kludgy and hard to work with.
This is not what I expected from HP, my previous experience of
HP-products is quite good.

I just bought this scanner today to replace a 5 year old SUPER great HP6300C scanner that broke.I had purchased an Epson 4490 and what a P.O.S. that was. It never did work...made a terrible racheting sound on my first scan and Best Buys told me it was defective. It was cheap light and felt like it was made out of cardboard! Well, anyway I today bought this HP which I should have to begin with, but I read bad reviews on it and good on the Epson. Well, just like you can''t believe critics on movies (when they say bad it is good, etc), you can''t believe some of these reviews on the HP scanner since I found the scanner to be great with all the same features of my old one. My only complaint is that it takes more steps to complete now than the exact same scanning I used too make on my old 6300C, but not much. Why HP had to tinker with the Precision Scan Software of the old 6300C is beyond me! The 4890 is quiet, and fairly quick and makes good scans of photos which is why I bought it.
Software is easy to use, but not as quick in the preview mode as the old 6300C. A little clunky there, but still works well. I like being able to alter the scanned image with all the color sharpness contrast tools BEFORE saving it. Plus, I have it saved to Adobe Photoshop just in case there is more tweaking.
All I wanted to say is this is a nice scanner! I even got on line and had a live chat with a woman from HP and she helped answer some questions. Good Job HP with the tech support. Don''t buy that crappy Epson...go with HP. This makes my 3rd HP scanner in a little over 10 years. I use the scanner ALOT. Sure got moneys worth out of the other 2. I scan thousands of photos each year sell them on eBay.
The software is also not userfriendly (selection and deselection of frames, frame selection not corresponding with final scan, settings that change in between scan...). I used a cheap Afga scanner before that had much better scanning software...
Scanning one slide with 4800 dpi resolution takes about half an hour...
My advise : do not buy this high resolution scanner if you intend to use it for scanning slides and films...

I don''t experience paper jams, as I have with every other printer I, or my family members, have owned. The scanner integrates seemlessly with WinXP. Just a few minutes ago, I stuck on a cookbook, clicked "My Computer" in WinXP, then double clicked on the Brother icon, and it started the scanner wizard. I chose "greyscale image," it scanned it in maybe fifteen seconds, and then I clicked on "send to email" and I sent off the recipe to a friend of mine. The entire process took me about two minutes. It''s not a scanner I''d use for archiving my photo collection, but it is good enough for most uses, and can copy a photo to my photo printer for a decent job.
I''ve been extremely happy with it. Cheap to operate for copying and printing, inexpensive toner with easy replacement, no printer jams. Two years service, and no decrease in quality. The "toner low" light does come on too early, but I just keep printing, usually a couple of hundred more pages, until I see fading, before I actually replace the toner. While this at first annoyed me, now I use the light as the "go order some toner so you have it around" light.

I work for a sole practitioner attorney. When the HP LaserJet III finally died at the office, we tried running the office on an Epson ink jet printer for several days. As that was completely inadequate, we looked around for an inexpensive laserprinter which would handle a duty cycle of about 3,000 pages per month. We decided on the DCP-1000 because it had a built in copier with sheet feeder, was reasonably fast, and was inexpensive. We have had it for about half a year, and the only thing I really dislike about the unit is the way it spits paper out the front without an adequate recepticle.The printer is excellent for the size of our projects, which tend to be less than 30 pages, and has stood up to the paper output of our office, which includes four networked workstations. It is also nice to have a copier with a sheet feeder for small jobs so we don''t have to run to the copier half way across the building we work in. The one drawback with the copier is that the automatic sheet-feed occasionally misfeeds, crumpling up the sheet to be copied.
Several reviewers have commented about the price of the replacement drums and the speed with which they and the toner cartridges are used up. The fact is that the toner refills are only about $30, which is less than half the price of the cartridges used on almost any other laser printer. So, the fact that you have to spend $120 on a drum every 20K copies or so is the trade-off. This means it is no more expensive per copy than just about any other laser printer.
It would cost at least an extra $150 to purchase any other printer/copier and get the same functionality. For around $300, you get print quality which is good enough to hand to a judge, a copier with a multisheet feeder which makes good 600 dpi quality copies, and a color scanner which is adequate for occasional use and for OCR. This makes it a very cost effective unit for a home or small office. The unit easily pays for itself very quickly. The owner of the building where we lease our office has a central copier. He charges 5 cents per copy made on the central copier. (Kinko''s charges about 9 cents per copy!) The marginal cost with the Brother is about 2 cents per copy. Just on the difference in cost of copies, this unit paid for itself in less than 10,000 copies.
As an update, after a little more than a year and close to 100,000 pages printed, the sheet feeder broke. (We replaced the drum 4 times.) Rather than have it repaired, we purchased a Brother MFC-8440 because, while we were happy with the product, we wanted a heavier duty, faster machine with a built in fax. I have the DCP-1000 at home, and anticipte getting it repaired.
Afterthought: Brother includes ScanSoft PaperPort and OmniPage Pro with the printer. Paperport is a scanning and document management application which will allow you to scan, print, organize, view and save copies of documents in PDF format. It interfaces with most common document handling and word processing software. You can drop and drag the thumbnail of a scanned document into an icon of the wordprocessor or other document handling program and it will automatically convert the document to text or other graphic format for editing, emailing or viewing. It is a bit slow to load, but it is a wonderful visual document and software interface. Unfortunately, the version supplied by Brother does not save directly to PDF format, but instead uses a proprietary format. It is also virtually impossible to uninstall. I recommend downloading the printer drivers from Brother and purchasing a newer version of Paperport.

Finally a low cost laser copying solution. I purchased this machine when it first arived a few months ago and have been very pleased. Not only does it copy, but it is a 10ppm laser printer and color scanner. Not bad for the price. This little guy sits right on my file cabinet and saves me countless trips to the larger copy machine. Set up was accomplished seemlessly the first time with the CD-ROM. This is the way it''s supposed to happen. I opened the box, plugged the system into the computer with the USB, place the CD-ROM and followed the prompts and then set the printer as my default from the start menu and wow beautiful fast prints emerge from my command. The process took less than 12 minutes. It was so easy I did not have time to finish reading the instructions. I don''t know where the other people writing these threads got their problems. The speed may not be the fastest on the market by specs, but the prints come out almost as fast as you can deal with them & as fast as the printers at work costing 10 times as much. The copy quality & ease are great and will not
disappoint you.
The initial cost & long-term cost are low. Over the next 5 years, my high quality prints will be less than $0.02 each including the cost of the printer.
Who needs a fax anymore. All you get from faxing is poor quality resolution. With email and the built in scanner all the functions that you would ever need for faxing is accomplished right here & you have the documents stored in your emials & not in a drawer. Also you don''t need 2 phone lines or have the fax continually mess up your primary line. If I had a fax feature, I would not even hook it up, so why pay for a feature you don''t want & could compicate the picture.
All the other machines of this quality are more exspensive to purchase and operate, are larger in size & are more complicated to run. I don''t know how a home or small business could go wrong with this printer. A value priced home run.

It also gets violent at times. The cradle wit the cartridge heads will fly back and fourth very violently smashing into each side over and over again until I unplug the thing... like it is now.
I''ll plug it back in to see what happens, but I think the time is right to get a new printer.

Sometimes the printer seems possessed. The printer head with slam violently from side to side. This printer is a bit past its prime, with regards to its features. Other printers offer more, but this little guy is a champ. He works well, is very reliable, quiet and fast.We have not experienced the jamming problems cited by other folks.

The directions for setup were easy, although the entire process took close to 20 minutes, with all the packaging and cartridges, etc.
I''ve used the printer now for nearly two weeks now, and here are my initial impressions:
Photo quality is excellent! I haven''t had an inkjet printer in several years, but this thing blows away anything I''ve had before. If you don''t look too closely, the prints on photo paper could fool me into thinking they came from the store, rather than my own printer. I also tried some off-brand photo paper, which seems to use a different printing preset than the Canon paper, but quality was comparable once I figured this out. Borderless printing seems to work as advertised, although I personally prefer a bit of a border.
Speed is okay. I''ve only printed photos on the included 4x6in photo paper, but it takes less than half a minute per picture, which seems fast. Single-sided printing speed is acceptable -about 15-20 seconds per side of text.
Duplexing is slow -the printer lets the front of the page dry before moving on to the back, and this takes an additional 5-10 seconds per sheet. This nearly doubles the printing time. [As noted in the comments, you can apparently adjust the drying time to reduce this wait.]
Text quality is reasonably good, nowhere near laser-quality, but eminently readable.
While the printer has a relatively large footprint, it is nice that I can load paper into the cassette below the printer (which extends slightly from the front of the printer) or the rear tray, which I prefer for my desk setup.
All in all, I think everything I saw in the reviews of the iP4500 applies here. I am quite satisfied with the printer so far.

I just replaced my 1999 vintage hp 970 Cse inkjet with duplex accessary with this new Canon ip4600 that automatically prints on both sides of the page , and couldn''t be happier. I have grown to appreciate the Canon product line of cameras and now their printers. It is about twice as fast as the old hp 970, but the colors not quite as vibrant until you print out a glossy photo, and again I was impressed with the speed for a 4"x6" glossy print that looks like it was developed at Ritz Camera. The print was done in like 15 seconds!I use this printer in my office for a lot of color graphs and two sided reports and reprints. The foot print is about right and looks great on my countertop return. I''ll let you know if I can get 7 years out of this one like I did with the old hp. Also Amazon got this to me within 24 hours delivery with no hassles. Good choice and good service.

First the good points of the IP4600; The photo print quality is excellent. The setup is easy. I am pleased with the operation of the printer. On the down-side; The IP4600 DOES NOT print CDs/DVDs even though several retailers (including Amazon) states that it does. Canon Tech Support seemed very surprised that the feature was given in their specifications. I have a problem with some incompatability between the Canon On-Screen Manual software and software installed on my computer. The manual would open once after a boot then fail on subsequent tries. Tech Support has no software fix, but are mailing a hard copy. Canon have outdone themselves in diservice to their customers here. I have been a loyal fan for some years but after my i860 died I replaced it with the ip4600. I have only had it a couple of weeks and the ink has almost run out. The ink tanks are sooooo small.I have printed 1 A4 photo and 2 postcards. The color tanks are 60% empty. I am an occasional user turning the machine on and off when I need a print, mostly for text. All the noises that it makes on startup I can only presume are cleaning routines for the print heads. So even if you don''t print much you will be replacing the ink soon. As the ink replacements are half the cost of the printer I have no doubt that this model will be stoking the landfills in abundance.

SET-UP:
Once I unboxed this beast (it''s quite a bit heavier and larger than my previous printer: HP Officejet 6310 All-in-One Printer), it took a few minutes to check the box contents and untape parts that were immobilized as part of packaging.
A very basic (10) step sheet with pictures and minimal directions directs you how to install the two print heads, four ink cartridges, the HP automatic two-sided printing accessory (duplexer) and load the paper. It also shows you for PC or Mac computers how to hook up the printer via a usb cord, ethernet (internet cord) or via a wireless home network (found in the Getting Started Guide).
Once you power up the printer it takes approximately 20 minutes to go through a series of checks prior to asking you if you want to ''update''. As I''d already established a wireless connection with the printer by following the prompts on the touchscreen and entering my home network''s security code, I had it do an update which took about 5 minutes. All in all, the 25-30 minutes the all-in-one spent getting ready for use was no big deal. It took me about 45 minutes to get it set-up prior to that time, and I''m fairly savy about such things. The directions that come with it rely heavily on drawings and had to be referred to frequently at least for me.
So a little over an hour into set-up I installed the software on my primary computer. This took about 10 minutes. Later I also went to the HP site and got the very basic drivers (a 64MB download) for the printer to install on 2 laptops (Vista 64-bit and Windows 7), 1 netbook (Windows XP) and 2 desktops (Vista 64-bit and Windows XP). All the computers installed the drivers quickly and easily, and once installed printed wirelessly off the 8500A. I was amazed with that one... no hic-ups with drivers?!
I also went to iTunes and got a free app: HP iPrint Photo. Once loaded on your iTouch or iPhone you can use it to send photos or documents to print to this printer, or any HP printer (I''m assuming other non-HP printers won''t work with this app) connected to your network. It worked with both the 8500A and the 6300 (hardwired to my router).
Between the unboxing, untaping, installing of ink and printer heads, the all-in-one''s auto set-up and software installation, getting this one up and running took about 1.5 hours. That''s much longer than most printers I''ve wrestled with in the past, but I did take my time and gently worked each step.
The only device I did not get linked to the 8500A was my phone: Nokia E71 Unlocked Phone with 3.2 MP Camera, 3G, Media Player, GPS with Free Voice Navigation, Wi-Fi, and MicroSD Slot--U.S. Version with Warranty (White). I tried multiple times to get it to recognize the printer, but thus far, nothing. I''ll continue to work on it.

"What does all this mean?" Ideally, if you buy this one you''ll get a wireless printer, scanner, copier, fax machine, that may cost you a bit less to print the same number of pages with another printer and gives you laser printer quality and speed. At least in theory, but time will tell if that pans out.

What I disliked about it...
The machine took a long time to set-up for initial use, and it goes through a lot of checks (for about 30-60 seconds) before it can be used if powered off and turned back on.
Makes a lot of noise while it''s printing! Thankfully...it prints quickly, and it isn''t as noisy while scanning, copying or faxing.
-The size is a bit bigger than I''d hoped for and it weighs about 25 pounds, but it does a lot and ''compact'' was not one of its selling points.
The printing of photos is nice, but leaves regular paper soggy. You need to use HP Premium Presentation Paper or HP Premium Photo Paper, glossy (100 sheets, 4 x 6-inch borderless) to get the right look and feel.
Time will tell if ink costs are less or not, but to replace all the cartridges at one time will be a bit expensive. HP 940xl Black, Regular Capacity Cyan, Magenta, Yellow Not overly expensive when compared with other HP ink cartridges, so I wonder where the claim ''50% lower cost per page'' comes from?
-HP included software has some unnecessary stuff on it that loads on your computer if you''re not aware enough of what to ''uncheck'' to stop it before you install the software. HP is notorious for this type of thing and can be very irksome.
-The HP Apps installed on the machine are minimal at this time. You can print off daily news stories from Yahoo, weather reports, puzzles, recipes, etc..., but for me, at least right now, the apps are more fluff than substance. You have to go online to do your settings and establish an ''email address'' for your printer, instead of using the touchscreen to do all of it. Sort of defeating the purpose of the screen and wireless capabilities at least for setup.
-HP Apps failed to work every time. When I tried to get a daily summary for Yahoo, it couldn''t retrieve the info. I went to the HP ePrintCenter online, and it said my printer was offline. I refreshed it and it still didn''t work. I then turned off my printer and turned it back on. It was then recognized online and printed via the app within 5 seconds. This was after I had setup my account and HP said all was well. **A few bugs need to be worked out, but this is probably a network/software glitch and may be just with the Yahoo app.
My CONCLUSION:
It''s a good e-All-in-One with cool web and file transfer possibilities, but a noisy printer. The cost is a bit high for a wireless all-in-one, but the web features and eco-friendly printing may be worth the price boost.
I''m excited to have a wireless printer that installed so easily on my home network and can be placed anywhere in my home. I love the scanner, and look forward to scanning old photos more quickly than my old scanner.
I also like the ability to send photos from my iTouch or iPhone to the printer wirelessly. The touchscreen was a great addition and it works well. It''s a stand-alone device in many ways, and doesn''t need to be tethered to a computer to copy or fax, which I like too.
Overall, the Officejet Pro 8500A Wireless e-All-in-One seems to be a solidly built office tool that will appeal to home office users and families who want its many functions and a lower cost per page.

I can''t print using the Ovi store''s HP iPrint Photo app, but the above stated worked for me on about a 3 second delay to the printer. This fix may also work for other Nokia smartphones and HP printers.

This is still my ''go to'' printer and the one networked to all the other computers and wireless devices on my home network (10 in all). Ink costs have been very low as it does seem to sip versus suck down ink. Print quality has not suffered because of it and I''ve been very happy with print quality on regular paper as well as photo paper.
After updating one computer from Vista to Windows 7 I did run into an occasional problem. The printer would forget that it was on the network and I would have to do the ''search for new printer'' thing to get it recognized. Recent Win 7 updates seem to have fixed this problem.
Another issue has been with the ''scan to computer'' feature. It won''t do it via the network, instead I have to put in a media device and transfer the file to that before taking it over to the computer. A pain, and probably something to do with security settings on the network that I''ve just not figured out yet. I did upgrade my wireless router and that may be an issue with those two not getting along.
Overall I''m still very pleased with this printer. I see it as a great choice for busy families, a home office or a college dorm room.

Printer problems continued regarding the driver, until a recent update. The printer asked if I wanted to install the update, and when I OK''d it, it installed it and things have been smooth sailing ever since regarding commands from the PC and the touchpad.
A reoccurring issue is that occasionally the mechanism that grabs the paper to print doesn''t engage and when I attempt to assist it, a jam occurs. This is frustrating, but not a deal breaker. I find that less paper in the holder helps to make this an infrequent event.
Another reoccurring issue is that when I go to scan from the touchpad and send the scan to a USB drive I''ve placed into the port on the memory card reader, I get ''memory card error''. Doesn''t seem to matter if it''s a freshly formatted drive or not, and the only thing that seems to clear the error is to restart the machine with the USB drive plugged in versus plugging it in after it''s already ''on''.
Ink longevity with this one is tremendous! Perhaps one of its greatest strengths. The ink costs are high by comparison to some printers, but they seem to last forever so I think it all works out in the end.

Printer is still kicking along nicely, however issues with dropped wifi connectivity have plagued me with this one. I tried assigning it a static IP address, and it would still lose the connection. Oh it says ''connected'' and ''ready'', but won''t print. A reinstallation of the drivers for this series works temporarily, but not for long.
Today I noted that drivers for this model were not showing up in my Windows 7 driver updates. I chose the closest to it I could find for the HP Officeject Pro K850, and so far, it''s working. I don''t know what''s up, but I''m holding my breath and crossing my fingers.

I have been using the basic HP desk-jet printer for a long time and never thought of upgrading until i got the 8500A.The printer is big in size but it justifies that in robustness. It solid and fast.
The wireless works perfectly and now i can print from any laptop without cables (2 PCs and 1 Mac)
the Ethernet is a plus and used rarely when i have a lot of pages to print but so far i needed it only once.
I haven''t tried using the USB since wireless is to good.
The printer is fast photocopy machine and works in both color and BW.
It prints on two sides which is excellent if you mind saving papers, not to mention its low usage of the toners.
The web interface was a bit tricky to setup but after that, I tried printing from the office and it scared the maid in the house as the printer started printing and she got scared and turned it off.
I don''t use the fax option but its a plus option.
The printer has a touch control panel and can do most its configurations and functions without even using a pc or mac to control.
Positives:
* The Speed is the biggest plus in this printer and the double sided printing is an very welcome.
* Wireless printing rocks and helps you put the printer in a remote room in the house or a under the stairs without looking obtrusive on the office desk.
* It has six toners and I haven''t really measured the rate of printing per toner but will do that when i empty the first batch.

* has a good storage compartment for like 100 pages.
* 6 toners so you don''t over use the same color to create new colors (2 are reserved for photos)
Negatives:
* The printer needs a sturdy desk as it shakes and rumbles when it prints and can knock down items that aren''t very stable unless you put it on a good platform.
* Its black and shows dust easily but all black objects do.
* its not the best photo printer but it does a decent job with the right paper

This wireless all-in-printer is probably the best printer I''ve owned, despite the fact that it arrived with a broken control panel. It prints very fast, the print quality is good, it has a lot of interesting and useful features, and it is not only wireless but you can install it wirelessly (not true for all wireless printers).Setup involved eight steps which were pretty straightforward except for the fact that the printer heads were a little cumbersome to get in. However, the ink cartridges slid right in (simplest I''ve seen) so it will be a breeze to change ink cartridges. Installation went fairly smoothly. It took a little bit of time (about twenty minutes) but it is a wireless all-in-printer after all. In the past I''ve always had various problems when installing wireless all-in-printers (Canon Pixma MX860 all-in-one, HP Photosmart C6180 all-in-one, HP Officejet 7410). I''ve had to deal with faulty software, firewalls causing problems, or advertised features that were actually not present. That was not the case for this printer, except for the fact that the numerical keypad on the control panel did not work. This meant that I could not type in my encryption key. However, this printer features a WPS option, and my router had a WPS button (broadcasting the key), so I was able to complete the installation. I should add the LCD touch screen worked. It was just keypad.
I used HP 24/7 chat to contact technical support about the control panel. I was connected in 20 seconds and the tech support was efficient, free, courteous, and friendly. We just needed to verify that the panel was indeed broken. I have had good experience with HP customer and tech support before. Canon''s tech support is better than that of Adobe, AT & T, and of course, much better than Microsoft and Comcast. However, Canon''s tech support still lags behind that of HP (in my opinion). Anyway, HP is sent me another printer at no charge, and I am returning this one at no charge. In the mean time I have gotten good use of it. I should say it is the kids who are using the most.
I should add that you can, naturally, connect the printer via Ethernet cable, or USB cable. However, I just like to have everything on my wireless networks and install everything without using cables.
As mentioned by others, this all-in-one printer features a lot of functionality, first the all-in-one functionality, print, copy, fax, and scan. It features double sided printing, photo printing from USB flash drive, mobile device connectivity, limited printing from the web via the LCD touch screen, and a feature I found really interesting. You can copy both sides of an ID card (or a smaller document) onto one side of a paper.
As I mentioned I am impressed by the speed of the printer. It is rated 35 pages per minute for black and 34 pages per minute for color. I found that to be close to the truth even for a very high resolution picture. To test the speed of the printer I printed four very high resolution photographs on two printers at the same time on 8.5 X 11 inch paper (I have three printers on my home network, and let them race). The conclusion was that this printer is four times faster than the HP Photosmart C6180 all-in-one printer and twelve times faster than the Canon Pixma MX860 all-in-one printer.
The print color resolution is 4,800 X 1,200 which is good but not over the top (scan is 4,800 X 4,800). I don''t think you need more. However, I compared the prints with the other printers that I own. As far as I can tell the resolution is equally good between the printers (extremely high detail) but the colors and the contrast came out the best on the Hewlett Packard Officejet 8500A all-in-one wireless printer. Other than it being a little heavy and a little noisy I have no particular complaints about this printer.
Despite the fact that I really like this printer I feel I should give it four rather than five stars because, after all, the control panel was non-functional upon arrival.

Summary: Other people may have good experiences, but I told my husband that if I have to deal with this printer any more, I will empty a bottle of super glue into its machinery. After taking 3 hours to print 10 cards, I''m pretty irritated.
With the lines in the best quality prints, eating my 2 sided prints, print heads going out, expensive ink, then using the time it takes to figure out why its not printing and then the time it takes to cancel what is in "que", it is NOT worth it.
I unpacked printer, removed packaging, put in printheads and toners and turned on. Kept getting Cartridge jam "remove packaging." But I verified there was NO MORE packaging inside. I finally called their "support" and wasted 30 minutes talking to someone who was absolutely no help and couldn''t even answer my basic questions whether some of the insides I saw were correct. He first told me it was probably power supply, which sounded ridiculous. Then I heard bad clunking on one of my numerous retries to print. He just said "probably defective." I had already performed the time-consuming software installation also with problems.
So now I have to package it all up and return TOTAL TIME WASTED= 3 hours
I give up on HP have had constant problems with every HP printer I''ve purchased after my old reliable LJ4.

Canon makes excellent ink and photo paper so this ink/paper combo is almost the best of two worlds, quality and economy. I''ve never had any negative issues with either Canon inks or photo paper so I have no negative comments about them. I made a costly error a number of years ago by using non-OEM ink to save a buck. Saving a buck on ink cost me a printer which gummed up and quit working due to poor quality ink. Lesson learned, stick with Canon OEM ink for your Canon printer.Why did I say this combo was "almost" the best of two worlds? What you receive with this combo are CLI-221 tanks in cyan, magenta, & yellow and the PGI 220 black tank as well as 50 sheets of Canon glossy photo paper. You DO NOT get the CLI 221 black ink which is required for the MP-560 and some other Canon printers. I didn''t read as thoroughly as I should have and thought I was getting all four CLI 221 tanks. My MP 560 requires both the pigment-based and dye-based black ink cartridges (pigment for text and dye for photo printing). As I said, it was totally my fault for not reading thoroughly but I do wonder how many others may have made the same mistake. It''s an easy fix, just order a CLI 221 black tank.
Regardless of my error, it is still an excellent value for which you get Canon quality for ink and paper.
This review is an alert. If you want a complete set of cartidges, you have to buy with this COMBO an extra CLI-221 black cartidge.

I have to post a review because I feel differently than most about the combination of ink in this package. We have had our Canon printer for about 3 years; we run a small business and print mostly text documents, only occasional photos. It has quickly become apparent that the larger black ink tanks (pgi-220) get used up much faster than the small ones.(pgi-221) Even though I don''t use the photo paper, I purposely buy this combo pack BECAUSE it has a 220 in it. I love my Canon MP560 printer and the Canon ink and paper are worth the investment because they give the best results. We printed out a bunch of wedding photos on Canon Platinum Pro paper first, but ran out with only a few to go, and the store only had the HP Premium Plus left. That''s when we first bought this, and we were amazed at how true the colors were reproduced on this paper compared to what we saw on our screen. We kind of wished we''d started with HP for a project this big, and have since ordered a bunch of it on Amazon. On the Canon paper, which we also like for its own reasons, we had to tweak the contrast and colors a little bit on some images, especially in darker shots. This paper was great with no image tinkering. Now, all of the Canon Papers described above come in 80lb stock and feel great in your hand. HP paper also comes in 80lb, but at times it was difficult to find some of the sizes in 80lb, and we had to buy their 75lb stock. The 75lb stock obviously feels less impressive in your hand, especially when you''re holding 80lb in the other. With HP''s different stocks so similarly named and packaged, take the time to examine the label before you buy and make sure you''re getting all one stock weight in the various sizes you need, if this matters to you. The 8.5" x 11" size of this product seems to be 75lb. The print quality is outstanding and is thrifty on ink. Printing on roll media works well. No issues with ink clogging, but replaced the red ink print head once under warranty.

Thanks Cesar from HPI''m spending another hour trying to load paper into my HP printer, every day it rejects the paper loaded. The process of reloading takes an hour because the printer continues to reject paper rolls. Sheet loaded media is worse. I can''t believe HP would sell a product that doesn''t work.
