Moab Lasal Photo Matte

I cannot say enough about Moab paper. I''ve been using a variety of papers with my Canon PIXMA Pro9000. Moab paper is stored in a solid package that offers versatility and reusability. The prints are phenomenal and I''m continually astounded by the vivid color. All across the spectrum, blacks are just the way you want them and gradients come across smooth on this paper. Overall, I''m very pleased with the quality of the prints and the weight of the paper. If you''re printing something important or want to ensure good prints for package mock-ups, I would highly recommend this paper.

Moab, by Legion Papers, is a relatively new player in the inkjet paper market. They came on the scene in the early 2000''s with a variety of inkjet papers, and are extremely young considering the longer histories of the likes of Ilford, who''s been around since the early days of film and photographic paper, or Hahnemuhle, an original German paper manufacturer who has a 500 year history making fine art paper and canvas. Despite their younger age, Moab papers hold their own against the giants of the industry.

Lasal papers from Moab are some of the best papers available in their price range. The surface of all Lasal papers, both glossy and matte, is extremely smooth, with no discernible texture. When it comes to the Lasal Photo Matte, it has an fairly high dMax, with some of the most detailed blacks I''ve ever seen in a medium contrast print. Color is very rich and very detailed, right down into the deepest shadows (an unusual trait in fine art papers, where shadow detail is quite frequently lost or simply difficult to discern). The paper is of lighter weight, the lightest of all the Lasal papers. This paper is PH neutral (acid/lignen free).

It should be noted that all Lasal papers use OBA''s, or Optical Brightening Agents, to assist in achieving a high brightness. Lasal papers are very white, almost blueish papers. This can be seen as a drawback to this type of paper, as prints will generally not look their best unless properly illuminated. Additionally, OBA''s eventually fade, reducing print lifetime. If you are looking for a purely natural paper with high brightness, you might want to look into one of the more expensive brands, such as Innova FibaPrint White Gloss, which also has an exceptionally high dMax.

If you are looking for an economical matte paper with a high dMax and superb shadow detail, this is definitely the paper you are looking for.

I learned the hard way that my Canon printer needs TWO black ink cartridges -226 BK and 225 PGBK. Apparently, one black (226) is used exclusively for images, and one (225) exclusively for text. When my PGBK cartridge ran dry, I thought the BK cartridge would take over, since it was still 75% full. Nope.

Now that I''ve purchased this combo pack, convenient as it is, the BK cartridge is gathering dust next to my printer, unused.

I have always stuck with OEM ink, because the results and reliability are worth the extra cost to me (plus printer manufacturers are making it increasingly difficult to use non-OEM solutions).

However, it is beyond dumb to see the combos that Canon is offering for the new line of ink jet cartridges. In this case Canon gives you four color cartridges, but all of their current PIXMA printers take five or six to get the Pigment Black or Gray cartridges you''ll have to buy them separately and at a higher price. Plus this combo includes 50 sheets of paper that not everyone needs (I have plenty already). Perhaps Canon should ditch the paper and lower the list price of this combo by eight dollars the amount this CLI-226 combo was increased over the CLI-221 combo it replaced.

BTW, the other package deal offered by Canon (PGI-225 BK/ CLI-226 C,M,Y 4 Pack Value Pack (4530B008)) is another strange combo that includes Pigment Black and three colors, but does not include Black or Gray.

Sorry, but it makes no sense whatsoever to not offer at least a 5-cartridge refill kit for a printers that needs 5 or 6 different inks except that it lines Canon''s pockets a bit more than it should. A kit that substituted Pigment Black for the paper would make more sense than this or as I said earlier just get rid of the paper and lower the price significantly.

I also have to knock off a star because the new cartridges are opaque, which may have been done to thwart refillers but also prevents users from checking the ink level themselves.

Edit July 2011: When my Pixma MX860 printer recently failed I was looking at upgrading to the Canon PIXMA MG8120 Wireless Inkjet Photo All-In-One Printer (4504B002). But in large part due my dissatisfaction with the ink cartridges of the new Pixmas I went with a refurbished Canon PIXMA MP990 Wireless Inkjet Photo All-In-One Printer (3749B002) which uses the previous generation CLI-221 cartridges.

I agree with most of the people that have written reviews. Believe it or not.....it costs less at times to purchase a new printer that comes with in than buying the ink alone. Our stores have this model on sale all the time. Actually ran into a guy the other day who had like 6 of them in his shopping cart and said.....yeah buying the printer for the ink.

So, what do you do with all the printers? I guess they all go to land fill, just what we need. Canon we like your product, so give us a break on the ink.......

I purchased this because I hate printing labels on a sheet. This works great. I have used it to print labels, name tags, banners so far it is great.

I saw the other reviews. One reviewer loved Dymo. I briefly owned a Dymo(not sure of exact model), it looked like a nice printer. The problems I encountered were with the software, it crashed my system. After no success in getting the software to work I decided to return it to the store. I am comfortable with technology but I am not a "techie" I just want to be able to get something to work with a resonable amount of time and effort. If the Dymo software works for or you have the technical skill to make it work for you then check out Dymo.

When I saw the OL -550 on Amazon I asked a few friends. One friend who works in a school uses this everyday to print lables when sending out applications and loves it. I decied to try it and have been happy with the printer and the software, it is fast. I use the included software to print individual labels and banners. The printer also works well with Outlook and Excel, I use both for bigger jobs. It does not require ink either, no cartridges to buy and learn to install, so that will save you time and money.

In fairness to the reviewer who complained that it only uses Brother labels, I happen to live in an area with many discount office stores and I am always able to purchase labels cheaply. So if this is not an issue for you this it is a great fast powerhouse label printer.

UPDATE: We got a new computer that runs Vista. I was able to easily get online and update the software and drivers for this printer and it works great. I have been using the printer with the Vista for a couple of months and have had no problems since switching over to Vista compatable software. Brother has the downloads on their web site.

We looked at both the Dymo and the Brother. There was no contest. We have been using ours for over a year in a busy medical practice and it has worked flawlessly. It doesn''t jam or need ribbons or ink so the thermal paper is a little more than just plain labels. The cost is more than justified when you add up printer costs that are avoided by using thermal paper. Plus, the added ease of how nicely this machine works right off the computer makes it really a terrific machine. It has an excellent program that is pre-set to print to the labels or you can print off Excel, Word or other programs directly to the machine. You can also print speciality labels with pictures, etc... and also use larger sized labels for shipping. Probably the best bang for the buck we made capital expenditure wise last year.

The software that comes with it could stand a rewrite, and after much hassle with it I finally decided to make my own templates in Word and Endicia Dazzle. Endicia does not claim this printer works with the software, but believe me it does, And it is cheaper per label than the Dymo.

It is not as quiet as I would like, but nothing is perfect. The fat that it is thermal rocks. No ink refills, EVER! And I have been using mine for about 3 years now, over 4 hours a day. This monster is a work horse.

I use these to print invitations or repetitive notes (mail merge stuff). I print out my notes, then cut them so they fit onto the cards I''m using. My handwriting is often difficult to read (even for me) so these clear sheets help me get my point across without the frustration of illegible writing. I''ve had these same "see-through" labels in the past a few times and they did the job, although they are not a 100% see-through. They have a very soft filmy look to them but they are still a good transparency. I personally think these are going to be your best choice for a home ink-jet printer making stickers. The next best thing, which would be something more of a grade of lamination, is an actual sticker-making machine. They are very inexpensive (usually $30 or less) and make great completely clear adhesive labels/stickers. It always depends on what you''re looking for in a final product. I like these because I can cut a clean thin edge and it leaves a smooth surface. The stickers on the sticker-making machine are slightly thicker harder edges because of the plastic it uses. This is all ok, but it simply depends on what you''re wanting your projects to look and feel like or what you need or don''t need. Hope this helps!

I have been looking for parchment paper for a long time; I came across the Southworth brand by chance, and it was a great discovery.

I wanted a yellow-looking paper to make miniatures with an antique feeling parchments, old maps, vintage photographs... Many of the yellow-colored papers that I found were printed only on one side, but this one has the same design on both sides! It has the same crispness and feeling to the touch as real hemp parchment. The paper is thin, but not ultra thin, so it is not fragile like tissue paper; and it prints without problems in my ink-jet printer no jams, no ink stains.

I plan on using it too to print Halloween invitations. I am sure it will look stunning with a red wax seal!

I could not be more happy with it. Highly recommended.

I purchased this printer as an after-Christmas sale item for a good price. I was taking a chance on this item, but I''m happy to say that it was a good buy. However, it may not be for everyone.

Firstly, my frame of comparison for usability is the standard Polaroid. That may sound strange at first, but the comparison comes from how I intend to use this product. The thing I love most about the Polaroid cameras of yesteryear was the fun factor. You got to take pictures spontaneously and immediately share them. If you gave it away, it was a one-of-a-kind physical memento. When I bought this printer, my intention was to use it similarly. If I''m with a group of people and someone snaps a good shot, I can use this printer to print it out right on the spot. It''s definitely small enough to take with you, and since I have a three-prong power adapter for my car, I can power it pretty much anywhere. The photos, of course, are not one-of-a-kind, but it''s really great to have a physical copy available for people to enjoy.

As far as the photo quality itself is concerned, this device makes satisfactory prints. I''ve had some problems with monochrome pictures having some blues in with them, and color photos come out looking slightly overexposed and oversaturated, but the pictures are smooth, smudge-free, and have a nice feel in your hands. One cautionary note about this printer the aspect ratio is a strict 3:2 with no options to crop or resize your picture. The printer will crop automatically from the center if your picture doesn''t fit. This can lead to the edges of your composition being chopped out of the final product.

I do not intend to use this product for display purposes, although for most shots it could hack it. There are plenty of brick-and-mortar stores that make quality prints for cheaper than you can make them with this device (though at $0.38 a print, this device isn''t exactly breaking the bank), and the only paper option you have with this machine is glossy. I personally prefer matte for display items, but again this printer is more about spontaneous fun than it is making display items.

This printer is great and the price is righ too. The print quality is magnificent, the option of using Google''s Cloud print will be very usefull for me because I have a Motorola Droid phone with an 8MP camera, when I go hunting I can send photos directly to the printer so my family can see them. The only one drawback was that the Hero 7.1 does not have a fax machine built in, you have to upgrade up to the Hero 9.1 for this which I was aware of, I just went with this model.

I like that the printer has a separate tray for photo paper and that the printer is front load. Then with the 2 sided printing it is just the perfect setup.

I recently purchased to new Kodak HERO 7.1 printer. I absolutely fell in love with its design. It''s sleek, modern and totally blends in to the room. It''s more of an AV equipment look than a rough eye sore like other printers. The glossy black, brushed aluminum are just not what I''m used to in a printer. It''s so eye catching that I don''t feel like I have to hide it in my living room.

In addition to its great aesthetic design, the printer is loaded with amazing features. The WiFi, Google Cloud Print, Print from my iPhone are amazing. My favorite (although seemingly simple) is that they included two trays to hold my 8.5x11 and 4x6 paper!!! This makes life so much easier than having to always switch sizes. The option of the touch screen is great as well. My wife uses this to print from her SD card instead of loading the pictures to her computer first.

Also, the print quality is great from Kodak, and their ink prices can''t get any cheaper!!! $24 for a black and color combo. My old EPSON would cost me over $80 for ink.

All around this is one awesome printer. I just can''t get over how great it looks. I''m so happy with this product. I totally recommend getting one of your own.

Am well pleased with my new Hero 7.1! I was a previous Kodak printer owner and pleased with the former printer capabilities. Love the clean lines of this unit...other printers I chose from were dinosaurs: huge, cumbersome, and take up a large footprint of space. This is far more compact, and I love that about it. Needed a printer that print photos as well, and this one has a separate tray for print stock. No one can beat Kodak on color prints. Did not need the "autofeed copy feature" and that adds quite a bit to the size of a printer. Wasn''t expecting touchscreen capabilities so was pleased it includes that feature. Decided against HP printers as their toners are like rebuying the printer each time you need to replace cartridges ($$$). While you do have to buy toner cartridges more often, I typically print daily docs in blacktone, saving the color for photo printing. Color copies and photos can''t be matched by the other brands. Did have a bit of trouble setting it up for wireless printing (WiFi) via AT&T U-Verse with the enclosed DVD but simply visited the Kodak website and downloaded the driver/files from their website. Wouldn''t change a thing about the new printer Love It!

UPDATE 3/4/12: Color cartridge officially empty. Black shows about 1/4 left. Not too shabby. And surprising to say the least.

UPDATE 1/6/12: I''ve printed a decent amount of pictures since the initial review, and still haven''t had to change the ink cartridge. The ink level monitor shows them both as being about 3/4 full. It''s a mystery.

Setup was easy. Features and machine aesthetics are great. Easy to use. The separate tray for photo paper was the reason I chose this model over the 5.1 printer. The larger touchscreen is also an advantage. But the claim kodak makes for their inks being least expensive to replace? The color cartridge is already tapped after only printing around ten pictures. (Although I have no complaints about the quality of said pictures.) At 20 bucks a pop, that''s 2 bucks a print, (not adding in the cost of paper). Not sure that sits too well with me. I''m hoping I''m just doing something wrong, or that I''m able to find a better price for ink. Perhaps a generic compatible? Even here on amazon you only save 2 dollars each color cartridge. Other than that sort of major fault, I''m quite happy with the printer itself.

I''m completely disappointed of buying this product. I saw it really cheap and I took the risk and turned out that it was a bad product. You could still use it if you are going to transfer images on white T-shirts, but if your looking for good quality transfer paper do not buy this one. This has a clear background, which means that if you try to transfer the image to a color T-shirt, you won''t be able to see it (you will only see a Dark shape). Got the cartridges (Not in the combo package shown, but individually wrapped) which shows the ink to be HP 940. (No "XL" on any of the wrapping, but labeled with the part numbers C4907S, C4908S and C4909S)

It also came with a card that references that the C4907S, C4908S and C4909S are XL cartridges.

The XL cartridges that I purchased in the past typically have "XL" on the package and is labeled C4907AN, etc...

No idea is this is really an "XL" cartridge or whether I will even get 1400 pages with this ink. I would have preferred the vendors not misrepresent the item by listing it as a combo with the picture shown, when it is clearly not in that packaging. At least buyers would make an informed decision about whether to take a chance on these cartridges...

Don''t buy these from Midnight Merchant, they did not send XL cartridges, they sent the introductory version that comes with a new printer.

Can''t refill due to a computer chip. HP printers might be cheap but check out the price of their refill cartridges. Can''t refill them so you''ll spend as much for cartridges as you did for the printer. Dumped this one and bought an Epson Workhorse 845 which is far superior in all ways. We''ve had this printer for about a month, and it''s been wonderful. I really love the color laser, beats an inkjet any day. The scanner is really neat too. I was worried about how long the ink would last. It seems to be lasting. We have printed a lot things and the quality still looks great. I even printed some pictures on plain paper and put them in a frame, and you couldn''t tell it wasn''t on photo paper. I would recommend this printer for the great quality and a great price!

I do a lot of scanning and printing so despite my misgivings of all-in-one printers I decided to upgrade from inkjet printing to color laser. I couldn''t have been more pleased to find a quality printer at a price that was not an arm and a leg. The printer can be hooked up directly to a computer via USB or into a network either wired or wireless. Connecting the printer directly to my computer with a USB cable automatically started the driver install process from the firmware on the printer. Nice! The tools included during the install are also a great plus since they make keeping track of toner supplies easy.

The one major deficit for me is the Topshot scanner, the quality of scans is decidedly far below even poor quality. Bleeding colors, wrong color definition, fine detail blurred out, are just some of the deficiencies of the scanner. The Topshot scanner according to the product description is designed for scanning 3D objects, not 2D items such as documents or photographs. Even 3D objects don''t scan well. I am glad I kept my HP inkjet 3050 for backup scanning, it now is my primary scanner.

We have had the printer for a month or so, and it seems to be working great so far. Color document printing looks great, and the scanner is pretty neat. AirPrint also works like a charm. We haven''t done any heavy printing yet, but for our occasional use, it seems to be perfect.
