Unfortunately, HP uses the 564 and 564XL label for two completely different ink cartridges. There is a Photo ink and a regular ink. Neither the store nor Amazon clarify this in the product descriptions either. As a result, I bought the wrong cartridge. I didn''t realize it was the wrong cartridge until I opened it and tried to insert it in the printer. As a result, I can not return it.

The HP Photosmart printers have one large black ink cartridge and 3 or 4 smaller cartridges for color. Some models only have 3 colors and others add a 4th photo black. So if, like me, you have the model with 3 color cartridges, you will never use a photo black cartridge. To replace the large black cartridge, order regular ink, not Photo Ink.

In case you''re wondering, the difference between the 564 and 564XL is the 564XL contains more toner. Both the regular ink and the Photo Ink are available as 564 or 564XL.

The biggest complaint for personal inkjets is well.. ink. It''s always expensive and you feel like you are spending the lionshare of your purchase on the fancy packaging and plastic delivery mechanism. We use our printer for casual use and a decent amount of photo 4x6 printing. These XL inks definitely last longer than the std versions that shipped with the printer, and yellow always seems to go first. But they work as advertised, and never last as long as you want them to. We''ve had our printer for 2 years and replaced inks once a year now.

The colors seem to pop when using the special 4x6 papers and drying time is very fast. I haven''t seen any fading in pictures that were printed 2 yrs ago with these inks, and they are advertised to not fade, so i guess its working as advertised.

Just wanted to post it somewhere on the page with the item that this is not intended for Photosmart PLUS which you can''t find out until you have already received the cartridge. What am I supposed to do now?

I bought a 564xl ink cartridge for my HP printer from Amazon. I checked my specific printer model to make sure the cartridge would be compatible with my printer. The information on Amazon indicated this cartridge would work in my printer. When I tried to install the cartridge, my printer info told me that the cartridge was " either defective or empty". I contacted an Amazon rep. who told me to call another company. When I was finally able to get a response back from the other company, I was first told they would not accept the cartridge back and NO REFUND! After I continued to talk to the rep, she finally offered to check with a manager who said I could send it back and would be charged a 20% restocking fee. I am not pleased with Amazon or the other company..I should have been told to begin with the cartridge was not compatible with my HP printer. This is poor representation when a company does not stand behind the products they sell or make some effort to "make things right" with a paying customer. This has put a negative light on Amazon for me....

HP C4153A Color Drum, HP C4153A - OriginalIs a 4154a picture; you call it a 4153a

Which is it? One drum has a 3" roller. The other an 8" roller.

The drum kit, new filters and toner waste tray all take about five minutes to install thanks to the clear graphical instructions supplied by HP. It is much less trouble than you think. Expensive, but the output quality is worth it.

I am actually really happy with this printer. I go to college and live in a dorm so having a relatively small printer is helpful. It''s really easy to store. It prints papers well and even pictures come out good.

I recommend this printer! I really like it!

I am quite satisfied with the performance of this printer. Print quality is ok in the normal mode but not in the quick mode. I previously owned an Hp printer of the same price range and the HP printer produced a better print quality in the quick mode. Also, it would be nice if Lexmark has also provided a black ink cartridge in the package.

Have purchased two of these and they work. Don''t buy one if you want a good, general purpose printer but do buy one if you want to print documents. The two I have bought serve well as auxiliary printers for in-office printing. Tough stuff is sent on to a higher cost printer. OK on cartridges, text printing is good.

Lexmark Inkjet Printers (20A0000) I needed a small, inexpensive printer that I could take to craft shows with our laptop so we could print receipts for my wife''s customers. It more than serves the need AND it does it for less than $30.

A special Photo Printing cartridge is available and the printer has photo settings. With all of its other features, this is a decent all-around printer and would work well as your only printer if you are on a tight budget and only need post card to legal size documents.

I purchased this printer and it works wonderfully. I love the quality of the printing and it prints documents and photos excellent. Great bang for the buck. It doesnt come with the USB cord which was no problem as I went to Big Lots and purchased one for $4.99 and it don''t comne with black ink, but it still prints wonderful photos without it.

Don''t wait until the colored toner in your printer gets so low that it refuses to print in Black, even though there is plenty of black toner! This 4-pack is a very good buy, shipped promptly, and easy to install by reading the included instructions. These are high volume, so hopefully will last a long time, but since this is my first time to replace toner, I don''t know!

The product was as advertised genuine Brother toner, packaged in Brother packages. There were no problems with installing the toner, and worked the first time I tried it. As others have said, it is a bit more expensive than other re-manufactured cartridges, but well worth the price for the quality.

  • Built-in Ethernet network interface
  • 33.6K bps fax modem with storage for up to 600 pages
  • 35-page capacity auto document feeder

I bought this Brother printer to replace an HP 2840 color laser. I like the Brother. It''s smaller and quieter. It doesn''t have to calibrate a couple times a day either. Scans are way faster than the HP and the scan quality if far better than the HP. Copies and printing are great, as expected. I don''t ever fax so I can''t address it''s capabilities there.

I found one limitation with this printer that prevented me from giving it five stars. The printer can only be used as a network printer attached to the router via an Ethernet cable or it can be a workstation printer supporting one PC attached via a USB cable. If your using Windows networking to share the printer (i.e. it''s connected to one PC via USB and enabled for print sharing), it''s not supported. What? You got it. Brother won''t let you share the printer other than to have it setup as a network printer attached to the router.

This is an issue if, like me, the router is nowhere near the printer and you want to do a lot of scanning using the PC based utilities vs. the little screen on the printer. You can scan with it as a network printer but you can only do it using the function keys on the printer itself. You lose the benefits of the PC software based approach. If you do any volume of scanning, you want the PC utilities enabled.

I was able to work around the problem and get it working like I wanted but it took a couple days working on and off to sort out. I called Brother technical support. They kindly told me the printer doesn''t support what I wanted to do and I should return the product. What? Unbelievable!!

To get it to work as a shared USB attached printer, you have to go through the CD install process on each PC. That''s okay once you understand that''s the process.

The only remaining limitation is quickly setting up a temporary shared user. Say your brother-in-law is in town for the weekend and needs to print. He can''t use the Windows "Add a printer" function and get to your Brother printer. You have to go find the CD and do a full install for your brother-in-law to print his Mapquest directions home. It''s not a huge problem but Brother should not have designed it this way.

Hope it helps somebody.

The Brother 9120CN has very limited adjustment for making copies you can''t lighten it enough to get a clean copy of a newspaper article something my old HP 2840MFP handled fine. Normal computer print is OK, as it would be from most any laser printer, but the manual feed slot is poor. It only folds out about an inch, so it won''t support your paper; you have to hold each sheet until it feeds very inconvenient. The first time I used manual feed, I experienced the problem that others have reported where the printer says it has a paper jam, even though it doesn''t. But, you go through a long process to reset the printer, only to have it repeat the error message. I sure wish I hadn''t bought this turkey, but Brother has refused to let me return it after I identified all these issues.

So far I have had an excellent experience with the printer. My Brother MFC-9440CN broke down and I was looking for something comparable, but cheaper to operate. The MFC-9120CN has filled the bill perfectly.

Print quality is very good

Has the same features as much more expensive printers.

Prints quickly

Cost < $100 to replace all 4 toner cartridges.

I highly recommend the MFC-9120CN to anyone looking for a feature packed printer at a very reasonable price.

Exactly as described. Setup was simple and straight-forward. It is a bit loud when it''s starting up, but once it goes back to sleep, it''s quiet again. For an office use this would be no problem. If you did a *lot* of printing at home, the noise might be a bit bothersome. But otherwise, this appears to be a great product.

I purchased this printer for a new start-up business.

I only needed the printer for text and simple graphics. Out of the box, it was easy to set up and worked perfectly. Everything was working well until suddenly a message appeared telling me to replace the toner in all 3 of the color cartridges.

I have used a number of printers in the past and am able to recognize when toner is low. The last page printed was perfectly fine...lots of color. The printer stopped at 9PM the evening before I had a big paper due; so I contacted the Brother support website (the phones were closed). After further research, it appears that there is a revolution counter used by the printer to indicate when the cartridges are empty. How on earth would all the cartridges empty at the same time?

Here is how the chat went:

John: Hello, Scott. Thank You for contacting Brother Chat Support. Just a moment while I review your issue.

John: Pushed Page:

John: If the problem continues after updating the firmware you''ll need to replace the empty toner cartridge(s) to clear the error. John: Is there anything else I can assist you with?

Scott: Yes, there is something else you can help me with. I tried the firmware update and it did not work. I have a paper due at 8AM tomorrow morning and need the printer to work. The last page printed perfectly, so I cannot imagine that the printer is so suddenly out of ink. Can you help me override this message so that I can print my paper?

John: If one of the color toner cartridges is empty you can print in grayscale mode using the instructions at the link I provided above. If the black toner cartridge is empty it will need to be replaced before you can continue printing.

Scott: Thanks John. But I need color urgently. Is there truly no way to override this? The cartridges are NOT EMPTY!

John: No, there''s not a way to override the error message.

Scott: John, may I speak with your supervisor or manager, because I will suffer greatly if I cannot print my paper by tomorrow morning.

John: I apologize, a supervisor isn''t available. If you''d like to pursue the issue further or feel that there may be a problem with the MFC itself you can contact us at 877-Brother (877-276-8437) between the hours of 9:00 am and 8:00 pm ET, Monday through Friday.

Scott: OK. Thanks for your help, but, One last time...The printer is perfectly capable of printing what I need to print. I need it to print now. The only problem is a software restriction. Can you PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE see what you can do?

John: Thank you for contacting Brother. Notice: John exited session.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION/SOLUTION

I found a solution that worked. Go to EBay and search for "flag gear" for your particular printer. I paid 13 dollars for a set of four flag gears. They are fairly simple to attach to the side of the cartridges and will allow you to continue printing as if you have new cartridges. I have already printed an entire additional ream of paper (albeit not demanding much ink). So Happy It Worked! Buy the printer, but also buy a set of flag gears so you can reset cartridges. I won''t change my rating though, as I feel this practice is still not acceptable (not transparent).

This device is fast, durable, prints high quality (options between speed priority 300 dpi, quality priority 300 dpi, and quality priority 600 dpi). It performs exactly as expected. Consumables are a little expensive (the continuous tape (DK-2205) costs more than $20), but there are a lot of generic products meant to work with it. All DK labels compatible with the Brother QL-570 are also compatible with this device -the QL-700 is faster than the QL-570.

I bought this device for $49.99 from Staples on sale.

If you''re in the market for an inexpensive label printer and you have no intention of printing postage, then buy this printer: it''s excellent, fast, and you''ll love it. (In fact, contact me and I''ll sell you mine!)

I bought this printer SPECIFICALLY to print postage. In retrospect I should have called Stamps.com to see if they supported this device before I bought it, but I digress. The only e-postage vendor to support this printer is PitneyBowes, and dealing with them brings a whole new meaning to customer dis-service (printer won''t work unless you have their super-special, custom made, can only be bought from them e-stamp label stock and they make the process of requesting a refund absolutely as painful as possible). So unless you really have nothing better to do or take perverse pleasure in being told to jump through hoops to get your money back/obtain a service, do yourself a favor and stay as far away from PitneyBowes as possible... which means staying away from the Brother label writers as only PitneyBowes support printing postage with them.

As I said at the outset, as long as you don''t intend to print postage this is easily a four-star product. However, because of it''s lack of support by any decent e-postage companies and because I bought it for printing postage, I cannot give it any more than one star.

UPDATE: I''m changing this review to three stars because this printer works just fine with PayPal''s integrated postage and shipping label generation tool (though, much to my chagrin, that service is ''powered'' by Pitney Bowes). While printing postage through PayPal works for most orders, it''s kinda useless for international orders (won''t allow me to print international first class postage) and completely useless for generating postage without a corresponding PayPal order. If you exclusively use PayPal/eBay for shipping and want to make use of the built-in tool for buying postage and generating a shipping label then this printer will work for you (just configure your PayPal profile to indicate that you''re using a Brother QL-550 and it''s all good; the Pitney Bowes java applet will detect that you really have a QL-700 and print the label and postage correctly).

UPDATE (10/30/2012): I cannot stress enough that if you are buying this printer to print postage you will be extremely disappointed. After getting this printer in April I started a TRIAL account with Pitney Bowes'' PBSmartPostage product which NEVER worked with this printer and which I cancelled within the 30 day trial period. Six months later I am STILL being charged a monthly fee after submitting account cancellation and refund requests online. I finally reached someone in their customer support division who (1) cancelled my account and (2) explained to me that I cannot get a refund for past billing because I didn''t call sooner to request a refund. WTF?!?! I cannot believe that PB is willing to deny me a refund of $81 knowing that I am going to tell everyone for the rest of my life just how bad of a company they are and how horrible their customer service is. I know some will disagree with my doing this, but I am down-grading my review of this product to one star: Brother is guilty by association with PB. I would have never known just how bad customer service could be if I had not chosen this label printer. Call it unfair if you want, but because Brother caused me to be "introduced" to PB I''m not going to buy any of their products ever again. If you need a label printer get a Dymo. If you need a laser printer get an HP. Need an ink jet, get an Epson.

I had expected this printer to integrate with Excel requiring minimal effort (Brother does provide an add-on application) but after a few hours installing, reinstalling, and searching online support I simply gave up and printed the labels one at a time from the basic application. Generic issue relating to ''communication with printer'' through MS Office, oddly there was no communication issue using the default basic software.

The machine otherwise printed as advertised.

Overall: The hardware is well made. The software is very capable, still with a few minor glitches

Bit of an adventure to install w Mac-OS X. The ''Printer-Driver'' would not install from the software-CD included in the box. Eventually downloaded the Printer-Driver from their website. Printer connected via USB. Good compatibility with various Versions of Mac-OS X we''ve used the QL-700 with 10.8.2 and 10.4.11 same performance

At this time the ''Editor Lite'' software is not Mac compatible. Mac-Users have to use the full ''P-Touch Editor'' application probably overkill for simple address labels, but gives you complete freedom with the label appearance

Prints a nice address label. Automatically cuts each new label from the roll. The labels stick to an envelope with no problem. For simple address labels we''re using the ''DK-1209 Small Address Labels'' roll of 800 labels for ~$17

Before I begin this review let me lay it down for all potential international buyers (like myself).

this is a 115V ONLY machine. If your country operates on 115V then all is good but if you are on a 220-230V supply like me you''ll need a step-down converter

though the machine''s power label states this machine as 115V/1.7A I have been able to operate this on a 60W wall-plug transformer

despite all minor annoyances you are still looking at a substantial amount of savings as it retails for US$148 where I''m from

---Build Quality---

it is larger than the photos suggest but with a comparable footprint to earlier models

it is heavy but this ensures it stays on your desk with little chance of it getting accidentally knocked off

glossy plastic used is a fingerprint magnet

if you are using aftermarket labels without the caddy you will have problems feeding a roll into an empty caddy from the rear (hinge space) as the space is really tight in there

---The Machine Itself---

standard buttons such as feed, cut, power and "Editor-Lite" (more on this later)

pilot lights are not obnoxiously bright

on the economy mode print quality is acceptable on tiny font size < size 8

nice, grippy rubber feet so it stays on the desk

---Machine Driver/ Running as Networked Printer---

driver installation was smooth but do follow the instructions to the "T"

you need to disable "Editor-Lite" by long pressing the button before you connect the USB cable to your PC during driver install. If you don''t do so driver will not install properly

I connected this to a W7 64-bit desktop and the supplied driver works right off the bat

I then tried connecting this to my home server (WHS2011) and the W7 64-bit driver works for this install too. This turned my label printer into a networked printer with WHS2011 as the print server

the driver deployment wizard (Brother BRAdmin Professional) works and installed the driver and utilities onto all my networked machines (clients).

no indication of how much memory is in this printer (if any) but if you run more than one instance of print job it slows down a bit

Machine Software and Utilities

if you are running MS Office on your machines Brother will install an add-on for you to import data into the P-Touch editor software

database linking is buggy... seriously, you guys have been at this for years and STILL haven''t fixed this issue

if you deal with XLS files then it sometimes works better if you convert the file to CSV before importing it into P-Touch Editor

lots of templates to download for free

if you print just the odd label here and there then all these won''t matter

firmware and software updating tool works well and is very intuitive. I suggest updating it the very first time you run the software

Editor-Lite Software allows you to quickly print a label by skipping P-Touch editor. The software is built into the printer but can be disabled. When enabled you will see a new drive appears in your My Computer page, it appears as a removable drive. I disable it by default.

---Bottomline---

It works and for the low price they are selling this for it is just too good to pass on. If you have an older version I''d stick to the older machine as there is little in terms of upgrade. If you do not have a label printer then just get this. It''s a lot cheaper than what they are charging for their older machines and if you run an e-commerce business like I do it helps to have 2 printer loaded with 2 different sized labels so you do not need to change rolls all the time.

P.S. English is not my native language so please excuse my grammar.

The installation went OK, it prints fast, nice colorbut after only 2 weeks the ink supply is half gone. I''m not sure if they put full-capacity cartridges in the new units. I bought this printer to replace my trusty old HP 720c. I suspect that HP keeps raising the price of cartridges on the older models, to force people to buy new printers. The price of the 720c cartridges doubled since I bought it 6 years ago. The ink cartridges on the D4360 are half the size of my old 720c cartridges, and I suspect that these cheap HP printers are just a pipeline in disquise for selling mass quantities of ink, because that''s probably where their real profit is.. In comparison, my 720c cartridges would last almost a year. Bottom line, if the HP D4360 printer used less ink, I''d give it 5 stars.

I''m using this printer exclusively for home and office paper work not for photo or pictures. My printing needs are approximately 3 x 500 = 1500 single sided pages a year. This will require 2 "XL" sets of color and black cartridges annually. Price efficiency of cartridge is average. Considering current market prices for cartridges approximately $30 for a set you are probably locking at 5 6 cents per single page print.

Buying this printer on the internet make sure that you are asking seller if USB2 cable is included. Brand new in original box printers are not always contain USB2 cable.

This inexpensive reliable printer provides good quality prints. Installation and manual are clear and easy to follow. Display Ink level in cartridges, is a very nice feature. The cartridges included in HP original box are not "XL" size and good for 200 pages only, but cartridges "XL" sizes are available for up to 750 pages.

We bought this exactly two years ago. It has been a great little home printer. I print about one page/day on average. It does use a fair amount of ink, but a printer is only an ink delivery system, right? Two weeks ago I would have given this model 4 1/2 stars. However....I turned it on one day and it simply would not print and the paper would feed halfway through and stop. My husband and I put probably four hours into it trying to figure it out. We tried everything and between us we are pretty good figurers. The HP Solution Center that comes with the software seemed to answer everything but our situation. Finally, I had time to call HP''s 800-number. I was quite pleased to get a live person very quickly. But then I realized her English knowledge was very limited and who knows what country she was in. She asked me if I had tried about three very minor things, which I had. Then without going particularly deep into "here''s what you can try to fix it," her training had obviously told her to stop there and give me this great answer: we''ll give you a discount on this particular new model and it will only cost you $80 (later I saw Amazon sold the same thing for $55). I told her I really like the printer and want to get it fixed. It boils down to this....if it is out of warranty, it goes to the dump. I told her how environmentally irresponsible it is of HP to operate this way. I doubt she understood me because she only kept repeating the $80 offer. I told her she had done a good job, but I was very unimpressed with HP. My husband pulled the D4360 apart more since we had nothing to lose and found broken plastic gears. It is toast. So short-term, it''s a good printer; long-term, America will have a lot of printers in its landfills.

My low end Epson printer died after outliving it''s life expectancy by two years. Desperate for an immediate replacement I opted for the HP Deskjet D4360. It''s strong points, it''s cheap and... ummm, that''s all I can come up with. The negatives... for starters, it''s a bottom feeder, in oh so many ways. Forget about printing labels, envelopes, custom forms, anything other than a standard sheet of ink jet paper will not feed through. You WILL be learning how to unjam this printer in the first day, guaranteed. The paper feed is underneath the output tray, making it very awkward to load. The page size adjuster is positioned under the lip of the output tray, designed for long, slender fingers and if it''s not adjusted exactly, the page will pull sideways and print off the page. Have templates set up to streamline your work? Forget them because this printer stretches out your document when it prints meaning it''ll never hit within your templates'' parameters. And the ink cartridges, they''re tiny... and the color cartridge is exactly the same size as the black & white cartridge. The black draws ink from the color so you''re going to know your office supply person by his first name, and helping to pay his child''s tuition. Expect an invitation to the kid''s graduation.

You can get some spectacular results by increasing saturation &/or vibrance a little in your photos prior to printing on this canvas. This canvas provides a startling level of vibrance making photos printed on something like canon''s platinum papers look flat and dull, whereas images printed on this product just POP off the canvas! I HIGHLY recommend this paper to those looking to print on canvas! (I used a Canon ix6520 printer to print on this canvas).
