Stuck in Iraq with a 9-pin dot matrix printer and the print ribbon is dry. Of course there are no ribbon cartridges at the local BX/PX so we turned to Amazon and found what we were needing and ordered. Our order was shipped quickly but only to a stateside address. The item was forwarded by my very supportive wife and received here a week and a half later.

My old OKI color laser was showing its age, so I decided to upgrade after about 7 years of reliable output. Two primary reasons I chose this one for replacement are outstanding customer service by the manufacturer and the ability to print on card stock. The range has been expanded for thickness of acceptable card stock and the print quality has gone from good to really impressive for a color laser printer. Duplex printing [included] came as a bonus.

For my home office this has been a very useful tool and color copies are still cheaper than inkiet, not to mention not affected by moisture. It is also amazing how much a little color for letter heads and such really punch up visual appeal for business materials.

Set-up was plug and play.

The downside is that resolution is limited to 600 x 1200 dpi, so for max resolution photo printing, the inkjet is still ahead, but for most office use this is hard to beat. Hidden in the printing software splash screen are some controls that enhance the print quality but are not mentioned in the instruction book. With these settings on maximum quality, the output was amazingly photo-like.

The trend now seems to be for printer manufacturers to include some sort of "chip" with ink and toner cartridges making it more difficult for aftermarket suppliers to provide refills. The outrageous price for refills will continue to drive the market for cheap alternatives for all printer types.

The manufacturer includes starter cartridges that have less than a full charge compared to the replacement cartridges which is irritating, but also apparently common.

Great prints and easy-to-use make this printer a winner in my book.

This is a good printer. It is fast and the image quality is good. It also takes up much less space than my previous laser printer. Initially, I had a problem with the printer not printing graphics from my MS-Access reports, but after calling the tech help number for OKI I found out that I had to use the PS driver instead of the PCL driver to print the graphics. I ended up installing both drivers and I use the PCL most of the time, but when I am printing the MS-Access reports I have to use the PS driver for all of the graphics to print correctly. I don''t understand much about the technical aspects of the different drivers and why they exist, but if I could recommend anything to the company I would suggest that there only be one driver to print everything. Overall, this is a good printer, but be aware that there are two drivers.

The OKI 530dn is an amazing color laser. Coming from a HP printer I am thrilled. First, after the first set of "gimped" toner, I get about a 40% savings in toner cost. The second is speed, this printer is literally 8X faster than the HP per page in color. The third is quality, although a hair less sharp than the HP the quality is awesome (you have to look under a loop to see the difference though) the colors come through with greater depth than the HPs. My HP gave up the ghost after only 10K pages, so we''ll see how the OKI does over the next few months. All in all, for the same price as the HP that died, this beats the HP hands down.

Downsides are that although network install was really easy, the instructions were not super clear. Also, the drums require a few pages of "break in", so your first few prints won''t be perfect. I assume that this happens every time you change drums. Also, OKI has limited customizations for paper choices, unlike the HP, which has a lot of paper options that calculate temperature, page thickness and saturation all on a micro level. If it had better drivers it may even out do the HP in every catagory.

I''ve had several printers from HP, Brother, Samsung, Xerox, etc. This OKI printer is fantastic. It prints on both sides and is quick to output full color. I didn''t give it 5-stars because of the price and the price of toner. When I was about to purchase the printer, I watched the price for a few weeks because it would change almost everyday, which is really odd since the printer has been on the market for several years. Also, the printer takes the standard C M Y K toner cartridges, each at $140 from OKI or about $100-$110 from Amazon. It''s definitely a money pit, but the output is amazing. Fully worth the money if you are looking for a high quailty printer.

I needed a 4 color laser printer with postscript support, and this model is one of a few that met the criteria and did not cost an arm and a leg. It works for what I bought it for. The full duplex function works fine, too. The images from this printer are much, much nicer than the same images from my Dell 1320c, which has performed flawlessly but lacks postscript support. The next Dell model that supports postscript is almost 3x the cost of this OKI printer.

Printed colored text isn''t fuzzy, either.

The OKI is noisier (fan noise, not printing noise) than my Dell and it takes longer to print the first page from standby. So far, those are my only small complaints. Not looking forward to new toner.

Edited to add 3/29/2012: I originally installed only the postscript (PS) drivers. Today I tried to print something from a web page, and it would not print, the printer would not wake from sleep mode either. Once I installed the PCL drivers, I could print the page once I selected the PCL printer. Two separate printers show up in the print menu (Windows XP): OKI C530(PS) and OKI C530(PCL). Before this point in time, printing images and documents using the PS driver worked fine.

Installing both drivers is recommended if this is not set up as a PS only printer.

It was impossible to insert the paper tape. The inside paper slot is badly designed, it is nearly invisible, the paper is too soft to be pushed into the slot, and there is no room for your fingers to guide the paper tape. Had to return product.

Inkpress PCL111420 Commercial Luster Inkjet Paper

I came across this paper in a search for a size larger than 8 1/2 x 11".

Having an Epson printer, I first tried to find an Epson paper with

the finish I wanted in 11 x 14" format. No luck. I encountered the

same problem looking for Harman paper.

Finally I came across the Inkpress Luster paper, hoping there would

be a profile available for my Epson printer. Fortunately, there was.

Since I don''t do much printing, I ordered 20 sheets. If it didn''t work

out, I could always give the paper away.

Using the Inkpress profile and the Qimage printing software from ddisoftware,

I hit the "print" button and crossed my fingers. After all, an 11 x 14" print

will use a lot of ink.

I was rewarded with a high quality print, nearly as good as I''ve received from

a print lab. Since it''s hard to get these by chance, I conclude that Inkpress

carefully tested their profile before making it available for download. This,

of course, is what we want to see from a reputable manufacturer and what

would generate repeat purchases.

I printed several black & white prints with this. Although I was expecting a more glossy paper, I was still quite happy with the results.

I printed with a Canon PixmaPro 9500 mkII. I visited Inkpress'' website to download the correct ICC profile, but there was a statement to use Canon''s built-in profiles. I followed their instructions & sure enough, the results were spot on.

The one caveat is make sure your printer recognizes the 11x14 size. This problem took me by surprise, but was able to work around it (I selected "plain paper", which then allowed me to select "custom size", "11x14" of course, then changed the paper type back to the correct paper). This is prob not a problem on most printers, but it happened with this particular printer. Wanted to share in case it happens to anyone else.

The only reason I didn''t give it 5 stars is how it compares to the paper I regularly use (Hahnemuhle Museum Etching paper). Sorry, had to reserve a star. Unfortunately they do not make a paper that suited my needs for this project. Fortunately it allowed me the opportunity to discover Inkpress.

At first it was hard to find what color the "Terra Green actually was and I had to look at a picture of their lighter weight paper to find it. However, now it looks like they''ve changed the picture to correctly match the actual color of the paper. I had been looking online for a while to find a package of just the right color for the backing of my wedding invitations. I have owned Epsons, HPs, Xerox''s and Canons. This is the best one of all. First i got the HP1100 photosmart back in January 2000. It was pretty much top of the line then. I didnt think much would top it for speed and photo quality. I heard a lot about the Epson 870 for photos so i bought that just to see if it was better than my 8200 for a couple weeks. it printed really nice pictures, very close to my 8200 from canon but its slow performance and high ink costs forced me to take it back early. Hearing about the new S600 from Canon with higher resolution than their 8200 i figured i''d try that one too. IT ROCKS. ITS MUCH MUCH faster than my 12 page a minute HP 1100 and the photos are just out right astonishing. (gave the HP 1100 away) Any picture i can take, it can print. If i need a 20 page report when i''m running out the door, i get it quickly between using the bathroom and finding my car keys. the manual says the black cartrdige goes 695 pages. You know me, i have to try it. YES, i wasted a whole ink cartridge and tons of paper just to see. OK, so i''m a nerd. Anyways, i printed 768 pages before the well ran dry. At [the price] for that many pages, i''m not tyring to buy no other printer. I LOVE cheap ink cartridges! you buy the printer once but you pay for ink for the next 4 years. SPEED and beautiful photos wrapped up in one; It wasnt possible unitl now. I found it in the Canon S600 and i hope you do too.

They say it can print a photo at 8 x 10 in 90 seconds, but it took a few minutes for my photo and I don''t expect any home printer to print any photo with quality that good at that speed. And the more easy black prints come out fast as usual. Ink cartridges will never be very [much] here as my brother''s P1000 Photo Cartridge was indeed [a lot] used up very quickly. I don''t need a slot for any Memory Card, I really doubt there are people who need a slot in their printer unless they are in a ridiculous hurry, and that is the only thing that P1000 has that my S600 doesn''t. I bought this printer from a wholesale dealer. I''ve been using it for 3 months now.

This is M551DN model. It supports duplex print (printing on both sides)

The box in which it came is huge. A grown adult can easily fit there and play jokes or scare people. Kids will love it. lol.

Any hoo, the printer is a little heavy. If you have a bad back or are not very strong I recommend you move it with the help of some one. Make sure you put this printer in a very sturdy table or desk.

Out of the box the printer has all of it''s toners (both black and color) pre-installed and ready to go. All you have to do is remove the security tapes and you''re done preparing the hardware. Installing paper is also very easy. Everything feels robust and looks like it will last very long.

When you first turn it on, the printer goes trough a series of tests and boot sequences. It takes a couple of minutes for this. Actually, the boot up is pretty slow even after. Takes about 1.5 minutes to boot each time. Shutting down is fast though.

Installing the software was not hard. It did not detect the printer at first try.

By default, the printer was not using DHCP and had a static IP.

After a couple of minutes of messing with the LCD menu I was able to find the option and change the network settings. Not big of a deal. I was quickly able to assign a relevant IP address to it. Some one with out any networking experience might fumble a bit with this. After changing the IP, i could ping the printer and the software finally detected the printer. The remaining installation of the software was very easy. A test page was printed successfully at first try.

After it''s first print I noticed a buzzing noise coming out of my PC speakers. After doing some investigating, the culprit was the printer itself. Whenever it''s in active mode, the printer makes a buzzing noise that you can hear if you get close to the printer. This noise is introduced to your electrical grid somehow and you can hear it very noticeably in your computer speakers. Two computers in different rooms experienced this issue. Maybe a voltage regulator might help. I have to try that out.

I then printed a color photo image about half a letter page in size with various colors. The printout was good but it did not wow me. I raised the resolution and it didn''t make much difference. The color accuracy was not spot on. But this may be due to paper quality, image quality, monitor calibration or simply user printer configuration. I have only printed about a dozen pages in color so take this info with a grain of salt.

As for the real heavy usage, after three months of black/white printing, we have not a had single page get stuck or damaged when printing. No paper jams at all. Everything has been perfect in that regard. No problems and no complaints can be made by me.

Only issue was an error appeared on screen. The printer was left on and the next day it had en error message. It made no sense and I couldn''t see what it meant on the manual. I just reseted the printer and all was good again.

The printer also has a web portal you can easily access by simply typing in the printer''s IP address. Here you can change the printer''s configuration in a very user friendly web page. It''s very easy to restrict color printing here.

This model also supports HP eprint which allows you to print emails or attachments directly through your cell phone. Just send an email to the printer''s email address (you can assign it through HP eprint sign up webpage) and the information is printed.

In general, this printer is great for high capacity black/color printing. It''s fast and reliable.

I''m pretty confident it will last us very long.

The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the on/off buzzing noise it makes and introduces this to the electrical grid. Also, the slow boot is a bit annoying.

I purchased the M551dn after a lot of comparison with the HP 451dn. In the end there was no comparison. Based on OEM toner prices the difference in price between these two printers is close to the difference in toner supplied (1500 p vs 6000 p cartridges) so that by the time you have printed 6000 pages the cost of the printers+toner is nearly equal. Further, based on OEM toner prices and 25,000 pages, the 551 is $1500 less expensive to operate than the 451 about $0.06 per page cheaper. As added pluses: the 551 has 1 GB of memory vs 256 Mb, 1200x1200 resolution vs 600x600, is significantly faster, holds more paper, etc., etc. It took less than 5 minutes to have it running on my three macs. Print quality is excellent, even if you are on the default 600x600 output, n.b. you have to change the default to get 1200x1200. Quality was significantly better than the HP CP3505 I was using previously. If you are looking for a high quality color laser printer with low operating costs per page, look no further. This is a great printer for the money.
